    Gameplay 9.5/10
It is certainly improved since the first chapter. I really enjoyed variety and freedom vs human groups and authenticity vs infected. Locations were well designed and could be replayed with different styles. Shooting feeling and reactions are so good that I want to play again at a harder difficulty. Rope mechanics are awesome but could've been used more, with more variety in puzzles.

I could criticise that the start & finish to combat sequences are too certain. There's not much surprise encounters when looting etc. Game is like now it's fighting part and we shoot them and our characters says literally oh we killed all the guys and now it's looting part. It could be better if we were on the alarm all the time reflecting the environment. Not much a downside but yeah..

    Story & Writing 8/10
I must say I didn't see any spoilers beforehand except the critical one at the beginning. When I finished the game, I was satisfied with my feelings and the journey I have been through.

It slows down at times, feels too stretched. It lacks some quality and I must admit that it's somewhat disappointing. I'm not talking about like all the angry fans about creative decisions by writers, this is their story. They've chosen a story to tell and I liked it, just not as good as I expected.

There could be other ways to continue our beloved duo's journey and it would be more appealing for the fans. They have chosen a a bold approach and I respect that.

BTW, there's not much SJW thing to worry about. The things there are only adds to the story in a good way.

Overall, this is definitely one of the best games of this generation and a MUST PLAY for all the gamers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After having finished it I can say that it is a great game at all levels (gameplay, graphics, mechanics, sound and, YES, history too), but I admit that personally I prefer the story of the first one. The story of this second part is more complex in what you want to transmit and how it is transmitted, but the one in the first one seemed more interesting and original to me. The objective of the story of this second part is, basically, that we also feel empathy for Addy, since what Joel did is unforgivable (everyone knows what I am talking about) and sooner or later he would suffer the repercussions of it. Joel was my favorite character from the first game, but it would be illogical to say that he was a good person for everything he had done in his past, just like Abby, but it is obvious that she had more justifications for doing everything she did in this second part. Precisely, that is one of the messages of the game: it may be that in this world there are no good people or heroes. I guess this second part was not well received by everyone because I think they hoped that Joel would redeem himself in some way for having probably condemned all of humanity by leaving her without the cure of everything that is happening and that was practically impossible, since that not even Ellie did not know if she was going to forgive him or not (although that is clarified in the end). I hope that this game later will be valued for what it really is: a great game.

The story is crude on purpose, it is a tense and complex game that, more than a simple simple story, tries to leave messages. The most relevant thing is to understand the ending and few people I've read have understood it: leaving Abby alive in the ending, that fact marks that Ellie forgave Joel.

It is not an easy and simple story that shows epicity for its own sake or to please the players, this is seen by the lack of fan service, since it was not developed to satisfy the requests or the tastes of one or the majority. Brave on the part of Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

That something happens in the beginning, was hard for me to understand. But this moment showed me that this game has no plot armor. And this was very refreshing, cause no one was safe the whole further story. The only thing is that the side characters and one other important character, I couldn´t get very invested in. And that´s why for me part 2 could also be 2-3 hours shorter. But all this criticism is still on a very high level.
Naughty Dog created a very special game that is different and on a high quality budged.
For me one of the best games on this gen. Cause weeks after I´ve played it, I must still think about it, and this is something that not many games did with me.

I have finished the game. This game is quite literally better than the first or equal to in most aspects, it has far more exciting gameplay, the game looks visually stunning, the atmosphere is just as creepy and haunting and the world is brought to life more than ever. I wen into the game with no spoilers, so I intend to spoil nothing in this review.
To tackle many people's biggest complaint: the story.
this is the one aspect that falls slightly short of TLOU, however the story is quite the opposite of the last of us, whilst the first game is about saving another this is about ending one. If you expected the stories to be the same then you should change that perspective right now. Through out the game you get to play as two characters; Ellie and Abby. Whilst Ellie's story is dim and full of hatred, driven by rage into making suicidal decisions, Abby's is fueled by love and mainly regret. This game brings a closer look at an already devastated world, it's about death and sorrow, the people within a torned world and how they live through it. Compared to the first game where you discover a torn world and how to live in it. So obviously this game is far different story wise. And personally I loved the story.
Gameplay is far more versatile in Part II, this ability to do so much more allows for a lot more fun. Whilst the combat is repetitive just like in the first game, the introduction of new tools be it a new ammo type, craft-able or weapon, increases your creative ways to murder. Overall I found the gameplay in this game a lot more fun than the first, especially a specific encounter which is possibly one of my favourite gaming moments.
The atmosphere of this game is impressive, the first one was so disturbed yet beautiful, and this game does a great job of reinstating that and improving it. To be honest, I thought I wouldn't be scared by this game (seeing as I'm already accustomed to the world) but there are so many tense moments that leave you fearing for your life. This game is a cinematic masterpiece, from beautiful sunsets to dark interior building to raging fires, if there is anything truly incredible about this game it is the visuals.
The music in this game is just as empty as the first, giving it the exact same feel. One lonely instrument. Seeing as guitar plays such a heavy role in this game every piece played on guitar is symbolic of (spoilers). Music always kicks in at the right time, to set a scene, to increase tension, it's so absorbing you don't even realise the music is even there, and thats why I think the sound design is amazing.

The emotions you go through while playing are amazing. I just think people expected a whole other Joel and Ellie adventure while Ellie discovers the events of the 1rst game which in my opinion would have been a huge mistake because the same thing with a few tweaks always end up worse than the original. Best example is Terminator 2 and 3. The 3 is the same with a few tweaks which makes you think: meh not bad but it’s basically the same thing
This game just speaks differently for everyone. I loved it because I was hooked and implied in the plot. Others were pissed immediately and kept going, refusing to change their mind so they missed the whole point of the game

I really enjoyed this experience and don't understand how people have been giving such low scores. The gameplay is vastly improved from the first game. Playing as Abby is a completely different experience from playing as ellie. It allows you to think more outside of your comfort zone and what youre used to. Abby does not have a knife like Ellie so it allows you to craft shows like joel had to do in the first game. The small amount of new mechanics that were added such as jumping and dodging may seem small but really give you a fleshed out and more realistic experience. The story is really solid for most of the game. Although it is hard to be invested in the story upon the second part of the game. They really do a good job with Abby's story and eventually make you come around and start to like her as a character also there was a hotline Miami reference which is 100 extra points. Expand

Finally, done with The Last of Us Part II. I won't go into any detail regarding the story. I'll dissect things in bits and pieces which constitute the game as a whole, and then a summary of my thoughts.

First off, this game is not for everyone. I won't go into any arguments as to why this is the case, as we all interpret things differently. As for me, I loved it. Despite all the flak that Naughty Dog has been getting lately from all over the Internet, I feel like they gave me more than my money's worth. And then some.

    GAMEPLAY
It's more of the same, with minor improvements here, and there. I don't think there's really much to touch up on the gameplay, as it was already top notch to begin with. I did like how fluid everything felt, due in part to a heightened sense of freedom of approach. You can opt for stealth, or go in guns blazin' like the cowboy that you are. The game doesn't push you into a certain playstyle, and it makes it really fun. I do recommend playing on the higher difficulties. Fewer resources means you plan out how you'll use what you have, and how you approach certain scenarios. It really makes you feel the drab scarcity of the world you live in. And the game shines in that regard. LEVEL DESIGN - Gameplay
I like how the level design was literally elevated. Since there's an added verticality to Ellie, the map was constructed with multiple tiers in mind. I felt that the first game was so tight and constrictive, but this one blows it out of the park. Massive levels with much more freedom during subsections meant a more varied experience for everyone, minimizing repetition. This also means more replayability, since you can miss out on a lot because of how much there is to see. LEVEL DESIGN - Art
I paid much more attention to the lay of the land this time around, and I can see how meticulously crafted the world is, very much similar to the first game. I really like how interconnected everything feels compared to the previous game.

    PLAYTIME
My playtime total was 35 hours and 25 mins. Due to the added nature of the highest difficulty, I did take some more time with the game than usual. I also tried to mop up as much of the collectibles as I could, which also added to the counter. Overall, this is a 20-25 hour game on regular difficulties. There were some padded out sections, but I didn't really feel it was too detrimental to the whole experience. STORY
This is where it gets spicy. A lot of people hate it, a lot of people are indifferent, and then there are people like me who loved it. I think this is an examination of the human psyche, and the depths we're willing to go to fulfill our need for satisfaction, whatever that may be. The Last of Us isn't a story about heroes and villains; it's a human story about people just trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. A world wherein survival could mean consequences down the line, and how our actions, no matter how justified or satisfying it may be, will always have repercussions. It might be hard to relate to, for some, given the circumstances we live in, but I couldn't really think of anything to compare this to. It's a world of its own. There were times when I had trouble going further, mainly because it was all too much. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because then I wouldn't have the drive to see things through. And it also means that it makes me feel so much, which, I must say, doesn't happen quite a lot, even in other entertainment media.

I did go into this with no preconceived notion as to how it should go. After all, this isn't my story to tell. I'm lucky I was able to avoid spoilers as much as possible, because it would've ruined the experience. The plot as a whole won't be agreeable for everyone, but I like how it was done, and I felt that no one was left behind in this story. Execution was really great. SUMMARY
In the end, everything was worth it; the wait, the money spent, the time lost to playing. A rollercoaster of emotions throughout, with some moments leaving me teary-eyed, or just downright broken at the core. And I think this is where it succeeds, since the goal was to challenge your outlook on survival, and how far you're willing to go to feel some semblance of vindication. It's not a perfect game; in fact, far from it. But what it does great far surpasses what it does otherwise. And the fact that it encourages discussion between the morality of the charactes, and the story itself, is a victory already. And that god-tier animation. Facial detail is on a whole another level. Naughty Dog set the standard again in that regard. I'd give it a 9/10. -1 for not doing much in terms of gameplay innovation.

I forgot to say this but mad props to Naughty Dog for adding in that extra work to make the game accessible for everyone. You can spend an hour alone tweaking the game to your liking / disability / personal challenges.

It was until recently after finish another playing-through of the first game, I decided to finally give Part 2 a try, my opinion has completely changed after I'm done, and I feel sorry to have easily bought into the hate narrative without actually experiencing it.

On paper, without context, the plot of this game can be "hate-able", the keyword here is "without context". Putting everything into the game's context and execution, it actually make sense. The characters are very well-written, they are human, they don't make optimal decisions, they are influenced by their human emotions. It is not an easy game to play, emotionally speaking. But it is an artistic piece to experience, you can tell that the team put lots of heart into crafting this game, it made me reflect, and think about the theme this game explored. That's what a good piece of artwork should do, to chanllenge and provoke.

There are definitely moments where some characters' action feels off and out-of-character, those areas could be executed better, hence it's not a 10/10 for me. But the overall quality of this game is great.

I recommend this game to people who are interested, whether you like it or hate it, it's a worth-experiencing game, the kind that we probably won't get many in the upcoming future, judging by how un-ready the audiences are at accepting something different.

I recommend playing it, letting it sink in a couple of days and replaying it again.
There is a lot more in the story than what you see at first glance. A lot I did not see the first time.

Gamplay is top notch, just like the sound, visuals and performance of the actors.

My only problem with the game is that it feels like it drags on a bit long at some points.

But other than that the game was fantastic. Most of the new characters were great, the gameplay is intense and brutal, and the story was definitely on par with the first, and was even more creative than the first.

It’s sad to see that people are judging a game based on leaks. This game is not what you think, you have to play it and give it your honest opinion

This is not your story , these characters don’t belong to you . Also , the loss of a beloved character is a hard pill to swallow , and that’s the point. You want revenge just as bad as surviving characters do. You’re supposed to try and relate to the characters , not review bomb and have a hissy fit because **** didn’t go your way.

The game itself is well made with every scene carefully orchestrated. It is, however, an unpleasant experience through-and-through. Every part of this story seems to become more and more depressing. The game is still utterly incredible, no matter what other users seem to think. As such, I will focus on the flaws that I found. The level design is too linear, making backtracking impossible even when all that would be required is walking back up a somewhat slippery hill. It is very easy to get lost searching for supplies and collectibles while losing track of where you have and have not searched, simply because the environments are so chaotic and the items so easily missable. I played the game as thoroughly as possible, and still missed a ton of collectibles—often due to being unaware that jumping over a certain ledge would lead to story progression and irreversible progression. The game could definitely be more open, and after all that time in development I am fairly disappointed that it is not. Only in the beginning is there any semblance of a somewhat “open” world. But that soon faded through linearly—although perfectly—tailored segments and environments built around encounters, as well as travel between encounters. This sucks because the world seems to have so much potential for intuitive traversal. Finally, this is a great game despite a seemingly shallow story over revenge and PTSD. Most people will feel this to be a worthwhile experience, albeit an incredibly unsatisfying one. This is by design, it is meant to be controversial and—probably—series-ending. I cannot see how a sequel, with the same characters, would be possible after this. As stated early on, this is meant to be an unpleasant experience during what is—for many people—a very unpleasant time. Do not play this if you currently are not in a good headspace.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, before you give any validation to negative reviews here, check the date. This game will take you approximately 25 hrs to beat, so anyone who published a review on the day it released, is either someone who never played it, or speedran through it, ignoring the story beats. That said, I love this game. I thought the story was great, gameplay solid, music and graphics are outstanding. I never felt like everyone we knew, would survive a second go around, to think so would be unrealistic in this apocalyptic world. That said, deaths were poignant and impact full. Pacing can be off at times. little things like safe cracking without the codes, and a characters fear of heights and how is it portrayed are a wonderful touch. As for length, I feel like they could have double dipped on us. By that i mean they could have put most of the second have out as dlc at a later date, but they didnt. I think we got two games in one here, and i am very happy with it. Expand

Over 10 hours in game and absolutely loving it. A huge fan of the first game and so far this game is delivering on par experience with the first one. It is much more cruel but still stays charming and has lows and highs.

Story wise it is full of twists and always makes you guess what's next. Gameplay is a masterpiece, so many details in this game. Huge appreciation for the developer,

Many people said they did not want the sequel for the first game, but I think this is a superb and worthy game for the first one. It improves the gameplay counterparts of the first game and story is just as great.

For those who are here just to follow the sheep - buy the game and play it yourself, rather than following hate train because you are this funny human being. Good job, making fun of yourself, trolls.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
