    Just needed to drop in to say that this is the first time I think that the credibility of professional game critics has really been called into question. I have been a vigilant defender of professional game reviewers, finding them to be significantly more in-tune with what the population at large considers "good" and "bad" than the average film critic. I always thought that this had to do with the stigma surrounding gaming; there was never any clout to be had, no influence to be gained or used, no desire to cultivate a certain image, and no desire to be anything other than just a group of people enthusiastic about their chosen hobby/artistic medium. Have games become too big for that now? Are we now going to be subjected to the howling wilderness that is modern film criticism? In the past, I always used professional reviews/metacritic scores as the biggest part (along with my personal taste) of my decision in whether or not to buy a game because I found them to be mostly right on the nose (Demon's Souls was critically acclaimed at launch, well before it became a commercial success). I guess those days are coming to an end now.… Expand

I have to say that the narrative and interactive experience is the best I have played in the PS4 era, and the performance of music and pictures is also top-notch. But this cerebral palsy plot ruined everything.
    Joel can die, but he can't die so stupidly, Ellie can be kind, but he can't be so kind. It feels like the entire production team is enjoying the process of destroying all the original characters. nausea    … Expand

Horrid story, characters, and gameplay. The game is bleak, unfun, violent, and repeatedly beats you over the head with political propaganda at the expense of any resemblance of a well crafted story.     This game is a shame, seven years waiting for a great sequel and they create a ridiculous story like that, the priority was not the fans but putting all possible agendas in a game. Even a five-year-old child would have made a better story. The beautiful graphics and details don't save anything when the main focus is the narrative.

    The game went through and it seemed to me very secondary and almost no different from the first part, many even cried from the finale, but the ending seemed to me not twisted, in the same Ori: and the will of the wisps the story is much better and the ending is more dramatic

    Gameplay and graphics are vastly improved from the first game. Story is complete garbage with nothing but shock value tactics and unlikable characters that the game tries to get you to empathise with.

    i was so hyped for this game 20 and something hours later i finished the game and all i can say is this is one of the most disappointing games i have played this year and here why

    as you see this game is divided into two parts gameplay and story the gameplay of this game improved so much and props to them but the story just took a deep nose dive and ruined the whole franchise and because the story is the important part because this is a story based game the game just fails miserably

    This game has nothing to do with its predecessor. The scenario is horrible, politically oriented and compete nonsense. Where are the infected? The gameplay is average and the graphics have not much improved since episode one. I don't recommend it, as a fan of the first episode, I was deeply disappointed.

    A disservice to the whole gaming community. As a story-centered game the story is extremely important, and being as bad as it is the wight on the score is massive. Technically it's an "OK" game (gameplay, graphics, sound) but the story is hot garbage.

The next **** part is that we should play for the murderer who is vile to a player. Why should I empathize with abby? Because Joel killed her stupid father? Because she saved incomprehensible kids? WTF? I don’t care about her life. Druckmann introduces new characters and I can point only Jessy, the guy I really loved but he was killed too. The story is a mess it ruins all the reason the first was great and all just to push a SJW agenda and with no reason the new characters are just shoe horned into the game no introduction no reason for us to care about them because we didn't know them to begin with. Side note using Ellie and Joel in all your trailers is extremely crappy to mislead your fans into buying the game.

    The writers killed JOEL, the CENTRAL character (my favorite, like many others), to « subvert expectations » as some would say. Needless to say, like the reference, it was very deceiving.
    I genuinely don’t know if they screwed the original (good?) scenario because of political considerations or if they just forgot how to write between the 1 and the 2, but I didn’t have a good time playing TLOU2. Even Telltale games were more enjoyable. I rate it a 1, and not 0 only because it made me understand some games were made to be one-shots...    … Expand

    Naughty Dog has torn down all that we loved about the first game. They completely decimated Joel's character development and destroyed the character dynamic that made this franchise what it is and replaced it with a new cast of characters with unconvincing backstories.

    The story however is a catastrophe. Retcons of the first game, dull side characters, a laughable plot and an ending that is the complete opposite of the perfection from the first.     Another reason you’ll get angry is because you’ll feel cheated. You paid for 25+ hours of gameplay, yet the game you knew ends after 30 minutes of play straight up. I’d advise everyone to watch the walkthrough on youtube up until the U turn scene and then if you think that’s something you’ll enjoy for another 24+ hours, then go ahead and buy it, more power to you.    … Expand

    I played for 5 hours so far and i gotta say it's a masterpiece.
    The gameplay is tense and brutal, the story is gripping and emotional, the visuals are the best of this generation and the music is fantastic.

    I can't justify giving this game a positive score I really can't although I mean no disrespect to the developers behind the scenes who took gre at care in trying to craft such a great game in terms of graphics setting and mechanics overall it admirable

    If you want to argue with me about it I'd direct your attention to a book title "after the ball" for further consideration on the topic

    I hope the future storytellers won't go in such derasctic directions with their IPs and it's a shame this was what we are stuck with for a "continuation" of Ellie and Joel's journey

    Sony continues the cinematic movie game trend, this time with their biggest agenda filled game of all time. Neil Duckmann should be fired. Since when are little teen girls John Rambo? People are tired of gender politics in games. This game is unplayable to anyone with common sense.

TLOU2 is being criticised for being a "SJW game" and despite this, the 2 notoriously "SJW" websites, Kotaku and Polygon, dislike the game. Please trust players. Obviously many will give it a 0 and 1 because they are just angry and want to review bomb, but what they say is still true. I will do my best to be fair.

    I will try my best to be short and concise (difficult for me, I try to be fair)

    1. All the leaks are true.

    2. There is outright false advertisement. The trailer where you see Joel hold Ellies mouth and surprise her? Yeah that's a lie. It's the Asian guy, Jesse who in fact does this in the game. They were obviously going on the "JOEL AND ELLIE **** YEAH" hype that it would build and the tore it to pieces. It is literal false advertisement.

    3. Everything that TLOU1 was, was "Hope" - that's shat on in TLOU2.

    4. In TLOU1 they literally explain how the chance of finding a cure is virtually non-existent yet somehow we are in TLOU2, supposed to feel like Joel was a villain for making the choice he did in TLOU1. The choice that we all knew was morally ambiguous but we understood him.

    5. I suppose i should speak about the "SJW" criticism. I think it has merit. There's so many characters of different colours and orientations and no "bigot sandwiches" in sight and this is what we get instead of Joel and TLOU1 Ellie.

    Neil Druckmann is known to be a fan of Anita Sarkeesian (a person who outright lies about video games. For example using Hitman as an example of misogyny because you can kill women in it when you can kill everyone in that game indiscriminately and you always have been able to) - he has made his own speech about the misuse of women in games and the agenda shows.

    6. A quick positive before the last one: As expected the gameplay is great. if you liked TLOU1 gameplay you'll like this. It drags on for too long and gets stale but it works. The acting is great, the music is great, the art direction, the sound design and attention to detail in small things like when you zoom in your characters eyes squint, is great -- But everything and I mean EVERYTHING else is absolutely terrible.

    7. TLOU1 was not an original story but it was so brilliantly told and acted and that's what made it a perfect game for many people. TLOU2 is ONE of these things: It's well-acted, that's it. EVERYTHING else is garbage. The scripts are terrible and remind me of teenage movies or bottom-of-the-barrel Netflix shows. They took 2 of gaming's best and most complex characters and completely destroyed them. They literally kill Joel and Ellie's character they kill.

    Joel was quiet, deliberate, reserved, violent, angry but he still had love and you could tell.
    Ellie was hope. She was happy, she had fun while everyone else was scared. She also got scared, but she would always go back to the **** you" feisty, quick-witted person that she is. She would take initiative when Joel hesitated (the bridge where she jumps for example) -- They were both strong, well-written, complex and empathetic characters.

    Joel's the same in TLOU2 but he gets brutally murdered within 2 hours (of a 25 hour game)
    Ellie is now a basically an emo. They were clearly going for a heavy change, for her to be adult, **** ****ed her up, she's not her own childish self, but it's just badly written. At one point a man apologises to Ellie for making (what the audience is left to assume is an offensive remark on her lesbian relations with Dina) - he is seemingly very sincere and gives her a gift (in shape of a sandwich for here travels) and tells her to stay safe. She does nothing but scoff and turns to Jesse and tells him they are "bigot sandwiches" - it is pathetically badly written, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

    So what is the payoff? Well presumably it is that we get to be Ellie and get revenge on Abby.

    We do not. The half of the game we *are* Abby in an attempt to humanise her but it all falls flat because she quite simply is not a likeable character and she just bashed Joels head in, in front of Ellie, we want her gone. They didn't even take the intelligent route here of making us play Abby for 10 hours BEFORE killing Joel. No. They want to "subvert expectations" ah yes, expectations. They dared to kill him. It's like Game of Thrones. It's so impressive!

    And in the end, when we play Ellie again, we murder hundreds of people, Abby's accomplices and at the very end, after Abby harms Dina, Tommy and Ellie herself even more.. Ellie decides that revenge is not what Joel would have wanted, which is just so far from Joel's character.

    So Abby goes free. It is the oh-so original tale of THE CIRCLE OF REVENGE (remember to gasp at the originality here) the never heard-of-before story of how violence and revenge does not solve anything and does not make you feel better but in fact does the opposite.

It really shows how much of a biased circle-jerk that gaming publications are that the reviews for this game are so high. I don't understand how any fans of the original game, or a casual player who owns a PS4, would at all agree with the scores that "professional" critics are publishing.

    Yes, the graphic and animations are great. A lot of work went into the graphics and are design, and you can really tell. However, this seems like the only part of the game that any thoughtful development went into.

    The mechanics and moment-to-moment gameplay haven't changed whatsoever since the original game was released 7 years ago. And back then, the original game played like an out-of-date action adventure. The Las of Us 2 has the same weak crafting system, same generic and uninspired stealth system that's been in games since the PS4 first came out.

    AI is absolutely terrible. Here's an example that happened to me: throw a molotov at a group of infected, other infected (not clickers) run over to stand in the fire to investigate. Human AI are equally bad, at the AI you would expect in something like Fallout 76 or something. They will just run into kill zones where their buddies just died, they will be completely oblivious to bodies or stealth kills right next to them. Like, you'll grab one enemy as a human shield in broad daylight directly in front of 2 other enemies, and they'll be doing the "Oh, what's that sound? I better investigate." animation for 3-4 seconds until you shoot them in the face. This is especially bad as you'll be fighting the exact same 3-4 enemy types throughout the whole game, so the terrible gameplay stays the same through the whole game, which gets boring and fatiguing fast.

    So you probably didn't play the first game for it's gameplay, you loved it for the world and plot, which is why you're thinking about the Last of Us 2. Everything you like about the first game is gone. None of the characters have good chemistry or banter with each other, and the characters you like from the first game have had the parts that you loved about them conspicuously removed. New characters in Ellie's side of the story are mediocre at best. If you're that interested in the story, go watch the first couple of hours of the game / cut-scenes on YouTube before you decide to buy.

    *SPOILERS*

    Joel dies in the first hour. The Abby character is just as laughable and unrealistic as all the memes say she is. Ellie's character has been turned completely one-dimensional by the start of the game, which is part of the game's weak thesis on cycles of violence and revenge. All the characters put on a forced gruff tone for their voice acting, and have flat and uninteresting dialogue to read off.

    At the end of the game, after killing your way through hundreds of people, and other characters who were involved in Joel's death get the bullet, you don't even get the choice of what to do with Abby. Ellie lets Abby live because....cycles of revenge? This lack of choice, and forced direction by the game describes the entirety of the plot and game design.    … Expand

It's a problem often seen in movies and television during the last view years and is just saddening to see. The environment isn't much more interactive than the original Resident Evil games. Hell, that might be the next step in moviegames, since common plebs can't be trusted to point the camera at the right place in visionary director Neil Druckmann's masterpieces. Why, that's like a moviegoer walking onto the set of a Spielberg movie and spinning the camera around.

    The first 15 minutes of this game with Joel and Ellie is freaking fantastic
    I also guess the environments look good...
    Aaaaand That's it. That's all that's worth playing.
    Just go watch the first 15 minutes on youtube and pretend that's how things are while remaining blissfully ignorant if you're that lucky. It's the only way you'll be happy with this steaming pile.

    This game is a masterpiece. Beautiful music, audio design, performances, writing, and atmosphere. This is easily one of the best games ever made. Lives up to and surpasses the original.

    As you can see this game is the latest victim of review bombing. People mad that women and gay people exist, and mad that they didn't get a predictable formulaic sequel.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
