    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having been a big fan of the first game and all other naughty dog titles I have been excited for sometime about this release.

    Upon playing the game all previous plot and character development has been thrown out the window. Disappointed in the direction ND has taken with their IP and especially how they treated their core characters and their relationships in this instalment.

    I have finished the game to give it a fair go but to be honest I won’t be replaying it or recommending it. The only saving grace that didn’t give a score of 0 is the graphics and combat mechanics are great.

    If you want to brutally murder your memory of TLOU1 get this game otherwise save yourself the $60    … Expand

    Amazing to look at, really how did they get this out of a PS4 pro, cannot fault it.
    The sound design is great, a few repeated lines that keep been said but still great for this age of tech.
    Animations are great/fluid.

    The OK
    The acting is a mixed bag, it's well done but the script is at times is cringe.

    The BAD
    This is the big bad that destroyers all the other good work, the story is painfully bad. By that I mean its The Last Jedi bad (ok some like that film)
    There are decisions made in-game that are "wtf, did they forget about character behavior/knowledge in the 1st game" plot holes, side stories where I was let saying out loud "Why are you making us play this long side story... it's crap" then the wonderful swap where you play as a person you basically hate....and this is not even mentioning a worse death than Luke in The Last Jedi.
    I get people need to die in games and films, to motivate others, give a reason for their actions, but write it well and in such a way that even those who disagree with it, still see the reason and can understand it.
    After about 15 hrs I was just playing to finish it, get it done, sadly it got worse near the end but by then I had given up and just wanted it finished so I could get it on Ebay.

The world is beautiful and you can tell the devs put a lot of time into making it a better game than the first. I can agree that in most cases this game should deserve a very high rating. Unfortunately, the developers have decided that anyone who was invested in the first game and everything that took place during it can just go kill themselves. After everything that happened in the first game and the player having to come to terms with the decision Joel made at the end of the game, killing him off right at the start of this game because "his decision was wrong" is a massive kick in the balls to anyone who grew attached to both Joel and Ellie. It's like the devs are saying "you liked the story we told in the first game, so get **** you weren't supposed to like it." Even after seeing all the leaks, I wanted to give this game a chance assuming that Joel's death would happen towards the middle or at least a third into the game and be a turning point for the story. Unfortunately, it happens within the first two hours. This completely killed any enjoyment I had had in this game and ruined my motivation to keep on playing it, regardless of the fact that everything else in this game is absolutely award winning.… Expand

I actually don't hate the new characters, even if you eventually are brought to do so by the game.     Снизил бал за русскую озвучку, и за это всю пропоганду. А так игру ещё не купил, видел пол часа геймплея, и там уже было видно пропоганду, и как в первой части убогую озвучку. (возможно, это было как-то не правильно, ставить оценку за игру которой у тебя нет, но какая разница, если есть тупые люди, которые снижают за пропоганду до 0 баллов, это как-то не правильно. )Снизил бал за русскую озвучку, и за это всю пропоганду.     As a fan of the original game it deeply saddens me to see what this franchise has become. The charm of the original game was predicated upon its well written and relatable characters in a profoundly dystopian setting. I urge anyone considering buying this game to reconsider or at the very least wait for a steep sale. it's very clear the "professional critics" have once again been slipped cash or something to that effect under the table. This isn't the Last of Us, this is some imposter wearing it's skin like a mask.

    The game is a complete spit in the face of fans of the first. While the game is a technological marvel and one of the most artistic game out to date the games story is forced and poorly written. Not to mention no multiplayer which i was a fan of. The game really has no redeeming qualities i recommend saving your money for cyberpunk.

    The game is a story game, a story that once was around the relationship of a man who lost his daughter and a girl with no one and the cure for the disease, the father and daughter situation was the best part of the first game, Joel and Ellie was the 2 points that hold the first game together, warming the hearts of those who played it, when the game turns around in a different perspective trying to teach us something that we know and we appreciate actually (the fact that we aren't a hero and we did bad stuff too) its just dumb, we know that and the game tries to over explain something with this new character, that we don't care. the story of the game had a bunch of flaws, poor writing and stupid plots, the game tried to do something they call showing us that hero is a matter of perspective, but they just betrayed us, and feeling betrayed is not good at all, this was a basically game of thrones season 8, nonsense, bad writing, 6/10 even should been lower, Devs WeirdChamp.    … Expand

From inserting a character almost certainly based on himself who spits on the corpse of the first game to adding parts with his religion and personal politics there can be no doubt that this game is Neil's fantasy or else a physical embodiment of his own arrogance. Who signed off to release this? From the original games heartwarming and brutal paean to the relationship between Fathers and their Daughters to a confused mishmash of hysterical modern political preaching and violence to the point of parody this game wants to be hated to make a point that even it isn't sure about. In places visually stunning but the animations at times leave a lot to be desired. The jump button is useless and the box declaring it as a feature in 2020 is ridiculous. To best sum up TLou2 we must compare it to the first game because it is an unashamed vendetta against everything that made the first game special. It is akin to tearing down a classic painting, burning it and then proclaiming yourself the true artist. I understand certain zeitgeists put deconstruction of a classic on a pedestal but this is just crude and bitter. Even the pseudo Kojima trickery attempted by the trailers was bought by nobody. The fans knew what was coming. The main point of my review is that hardly any of what is in Tlou2 needs to be in a video game. A good video game with a bad story is playable. A bad video game with a good story is acceptable. Tlou2 may have familiar controls to the first game but the game tries to guilt trip you for using them. A survival horror game that tries to guilt trip you for surviving is not worth the plastic its printed on. Do sports games penalise you for scoring? All in all the game sought to elicit a negative response and I hope it gets it because contempt for the fanbase should never be rewarded. Pushes transsexual agenda upon children, yet Naughty Dog keep talking about how they don't like to "sexualise" characters. You are fostering mental illness and it is simply deplorable. I don't care what anybody says, this is simply the truth, and everybody knew this just 8 years ago but we seemed to have forgotten when it was suddenly pushed upon everyone via the mainstream media. This tripe also has an anal sex scene with one of the "sexually ambiguous" characters called "Abbie". The story is a trainwreck, the gameplay is mediocre and also disgustingly violent, the entire game is in fact a sick SJW fantasy murder simulator for them to enact out their misplaced rage.     I can’t believe that Naughty Dog ruined one of the best game in the world. Literally destroyed and distributed all this **** to their fans, people who trusted them. People just wanted a decent sequel that could be better than the first part of the game.

    You can continue to pay all sorts of corrupt game journalists and critics so that they put their 12 out of 10 points. But real users will give a real deserving rating. I personally put 0 out of 10.

    Negatives outweigh the positives, tremendously. The story is abhorrent in every sense of the word. Logically, it doesn’t make too much sense in grand scheme of the overarching plot. It almost feels as if TLOU1 and TLOU2 are in entirely different universes. While it might be innocuous at first, the romance/sexual plots become increasingly contrived and painfully exasperating. The juxtaposition of multiple sexual trysts in a apocalyptic setting make the game jarring, and at points unbearable. There is one sexual encounter that is completely tasteless, and actually felt ashamed viewing it, much without my consent. The emotional highs are at best counterfeit of any actual human response. It feels as if the characters become bizarre caricatures of what somebody who has never interacted with society would think normal people would behave. If someone told me the story was written by a pre-pubescent teen tasked at writing a zombie holocaust melodrama, i would believe them. It’s that bad. Shallow and devoid of any realistic emotional nuance, this game is a dud and falls flat, far beyond the expectations of the first game.

    I would not pay the admission price for this game, wait to get it on cheap, or find another way to play it. The asking price is to much for such a abomination of story telling.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It seems like all of the reviewers here are angry men, so here are my 5 cents from a female gamer perspective.

    I loved the 1st game very much but I've never binded with Joel. I totally understood his reasoning and decisions, fueled by rage, PTSD, death of his own daughter and 20 years of killing people and innocent monsters. But having an explanation doesn't mean having compassion or justification.

    He was a very selfish murderous character, who, in the end of the game robbed whole humanity of the chance of finding cure for the desease - for his own selfish reasons. He also destined Ellie to continue living in the world full of monsters, making the rest of her life a survival.

    He killed innocent people and even though he was the main character, we have to see him for who he was. And also see Abby as not a "villain of the game" but a person, who herself was grieving for the parent, who was brutally killed by Joel. For me it wasn't so hard. I hate the group mentality, where people cheer for their own, making circumstantial excuses for their bad actions, while villifying "the other" who is acting from the very same reasons.

    Ellie was a product of having Joel as a "role model". She saw him killing for years and she obviously followed his steps of "revenge", killing hundreds of people, innocent people,only to understand in the end, that revenge is not the answer.

    She showed a tremendous character developement and the moment of catharsis she finally had in the end, was that moment, where I see gaming industry changing.

    Masculine brutal culture was bread on wars, power and revenge for centuries. Nowadays we can see from the example of female leaders in the world, that winning in the war is not the best thing. The best thing is NEVER PARTICIPATING IN THE WAR in the first place. Caring about social well being of other people,treating everyone with compassion and understanding. Caring about children and elderly.

    We still live in the culture of a constant "enemy threat", countries militarasing for the sake of "defence" when in most cases it is just a few politicians comparing "dic*s".

    I can understand while many men here are angry about this game. It opposes their cultural concept of masculinity - strong men can do whatever they want and their actions will always be excused for the sake of some "greater good". Ellie shows that there is no "greater good" in or after revenge. Killing people is what it is - killing people. You can come up with any excuse you want but deep inside you know,that your violence against others is not more holy or justified than the violence of others against you.

    You always feel like you are a protagonist of life. But so do other people. You revenge is not more important than theirs and you pain is not more justified than theirs, just because it is yours. And that is what Ellie understands in the end.

    PS short remark to all the rage about "wokeness" from the pseudo-Christian bros. You seriously talk about Christian values after 30 hours of brutally murdering people on screen, smashing their heads and shooting? Jesus said "when slapped turn the other cheek" and God said "thou shalt not kill". Nothing about trans people or lesbians in the scripture. More like "thou shalt love one another/thy neighbor/thy enemie".    … Expand

The game, in principle, did not need a sequel, since the answers were given, and the points were set. Yes, there was an open finale, but there was a completion. Heroes went their own way.

A fan of the first game could write a way better story than what we got here.

    This game changed my life. I understand some people only want to play Fortnite, that's fine, but this game is the future of gaming. Character development is quite usual actually. It's nice to play a new game, if I wanted the old one, I would just play it again. Which I do. Some fans just want the same thing over and over again.

They made it seem like Joel would be along for the ride with Ellie, but instead they kill him off in the first portion of the game.

    The graphics are nice and the game play is what you would expect from ND, but the writing is cringe and elementary. This is self indulgent drivel and they have essentially ruined the original game by retconning it to death.

    I just hope my liver can handle the amount of alcohol it will take to kill enough brain cells to forget the Last of Us II was ever created.    … Expand

After the release of the magnificent first part, quite a lot of time passed, and the team of developers of this series left many talented people. They were replaced by consultants who completely understood nothing in the gaming industry. I am sure that initially, a different plot and other characters in this game were conceived, but as a result of the pressure of various minorities and quasi-fighters for various rights, this whole thing was rewritten and redone more than once.

    In general, of course, there is where to roam. There is a pretty nice picture and not a stupid AI, but still nothing supernatural is observed in this game. I would say you can play, but not really what you need. Skipping this project at the start, you absolutely will not lose anything. I am sure that we should expect good discounts in the near future.

    P.S. Honestly, THE LAST FROM US: PART TWO, for me personally the disappointment of the year. I find it very stupid to replace GG Joel with GG Ellie. I expected a good continuation of the first part, but I received a product that is trying to impose on me, the egocentric opinion of pseudo-defenders and the sick interests of a diverse minority. That's just all these people, the game as a whole is not interesting, unlike me. So I suppose this will be the last copy of the game I purchased from this developer, because the further the worse.

    В целом конечно, здесь есть где разгуляться. Имеются довольно приятная картинка и не глупый ИИ, но всё же ничего сверхъестественного в этой игре не наблюдается. Я бы сказал играть можно, но не особо то и нужно. Пропустив данный проект на старте, вы абсолютно ничего не потеряете. Уверен что стоит ожидать хороших скидок в ближайшее время.

    P.S. Честно сказать, ОДИН ИЗ НАС: ЧАСТЬ ДВА, лично для меня разочарование года. Считаю очень глупым решение заменить ГГ Джоела, на ГГ Элли. Я ожидал хорошее продолжение первой части, а получил продукт который пытается навязать мне, эгоцентричное мнение псевдозащитниц и больные интересы разнообразных меньшинства.     - Performance of the voice actors
    -The beautiful looking game that the team created.

    Those people deserve praise, but this is all i can give because that's not the whole game, sadly.

    Now to the parts that i especially hate, because if i would talk about everything, 5000 characters wouldn't be enough in a game that has bad enough writing to rival Game of Throne season 8.

    - The Last of Us Part 2 Joel. This is not the character we were introduced to in the first game. Don't even try to explain it to me how Joel would ever fall into a trap so easily, and then (even though he knows he is a wanted man) announce his name in front of unknown armed people who heavily outnumber him in a sitation where he can't escape. The real Joel, that was written by competent writers, would've never died in such a disgraceful way. He would've died after tricking everyone in that room and after making sure that Ellie is safe.

    - Ellie. She hunts down all of Abby's friends and brutally murders all of them, even the ones who saved her in that situation where Joel died, which is can understand and accept. Then she proceeds to beat up Abby even though she loses 2 of her fingers (i will talk about that later) and almost drown her, where she suddenly has a flashback about Joel, where he talks about how he would kill everyone in that hospital all over again for her... and that's somehow a reason for her to let Abby go and live happily ever after. No comment, really, it's stupid. Revenge is bad, but somehow Abby got to have her revenge and just leave. Oh, and she is now gay for the sake of having gay characters in the game.

    - Abby. I don't care about her. Joel killed his dad, wow, very interesting, i'm sure 100% of the people in a zombie apocalypse has a worse story than that. Then we get to watch AND play her while she beats the crap out of everyone we love... It made me feel sick.

    - Ending. So... Abby gets to leave after killing Joel, Ellie gets crippled for no reason other than making us try to play on the guitar and realize that she can't anymore AFTER she realize that Dina left her because she went to kill Abby... but she didn't even do that so Dina left her for no reason... Tommy gets crippled as well, his girlfriend leaves him and the last thing he knows is that Allie don't want to avenge Joel anymore, he has no more appearance in the game after that... So in the very end Ellie leaves the guitar because she can't play on it anymore, she loses the only thing that could remind her of Joel and then she leaves the house to go somewhere, we don't know where because that's where the game ends. I can appreciate an ending where they give us the possbility to think about what happened afterwards, but i don't want to think about it. What's next? Ellie finds everyone and tells them how she got crippled in order to not avenge Joel?

    Absolutely terrible writing, it makes me want to cry after playing such a wonderful game like the first Last of Us.    … Expand

    This game has poor, contrived writing that is trying to prove a point. It is forced and unconvincing. In addition, you have gameplay from 2013 and NPCs that speed up and slow down like GTAV in 2013.

    I remember others complaining RDR2 in 2018 was behind the times. I wonder what those people think about TLOU2..

The most important thing to be said is how poor and dangerous of a job professional journalists/critics have been with handling the reviews for this game. All of the critics reviews released before launch were bound to a strict no tell policy of roughly 12 hours of this 24 hour game. There is no way to give an objective opinion and accurately review your likes/dislikes of the game along with any of its failures or successes if you can't discuss half the game. If you want integrity and honesty in your critic reviews, only those on or after 6/19/20 should be considered. With that being said the main reason this game fails so badly and is such a slap in the face to the original is the terribly poor writing.

    The two most important plot points:

    Around the 3hr mark Joel is beaten to death with a golf club by a girl named Abby who turns out to be the daughter of the surgeon Joel killed at the end of the first game. How this girl and her group were able to survive a cross country trip across the U.S. is mind boggling considering what Joel and Ellie went through in the first game. The only reason Joel/Ellie survived was due to the the close to 2 decades of experience and survival that Joel had to endure as a hunter, smuggler, and courier. Joels wit, penchant for brutality, lack of trust, and skepticism/shrewdness is what kept them alive. Joel was very much a analogue man in the digital age. He grew up long before the invention of gps, internet, smart phones, etc. He would have lived decades travelling via maps, landmarks, signs, and word of mouth. How Abby's group was able to do what Joel was able to is never explained considering especially that the fireflies were on the verge of Extinction when Joel/Ellie arrive at the hospital. When Joel flees with Ellie the fireflies have lost their leader, head surgeon, and some of their most heavily armed and trained members leaving them eviscerated and in disarray. There is simply no explanation as to why Abbys group was capable enough to survive that journey. This coupled with the extraordinary luck of Joel just happening to be the one to meet and save Abby or call it extremely poor writing as that is what it is. The sheer stupidity of this plot design is enraging given the fact the first game gives no development to the surgeon Joel kills him and the game forces that decision on the player. He could have easily been incapacitated but the game doesn't allow that. Some no thought decision in the first game is the catalyst for the entire plot of the second.

    The worst part of the game is probably the 20 or so hours that follow. About 12 hrs of the game you are forced to play as Abby the antagonist of the story and the woman who executed Joel while forcing Ellie to watch. Its literally a misery simulator at this point. The game gives no reason to push the analog stick forward to continue the game. If by some chance you manage to summon the will to do so you're treated to a cross country tour of revenge where Ellies savagely, brutally, and mercilessly slaughters and maims dozens upon dozens of people that have not wronged her or her friends/family and they have no affiliation with Abby's group what so ever. After reaching the end Ellie is on the verge of killing Abby when a flashback of Joel playing guitar forces her to stop and allow Abby to live and go merrily on her way.

    This all sounds like terrible fan fiction or as if you're on an episode of punked but sadly its the truth.

    The Last Of Us fans deserved better, the people who worked hard on this game that were not involved in its writing deserved better, the fans deserved better, and most importantly Joel and Ellie deserved better.

    The game cannot receive a 0 however as a lot of people not involved in writing the game worked very hard on the gameplay, production, voice acting and mocap, and the art/sound design. Its a shame their work is unravelled by one of the poorest sequels in video game history.

Very poor choices by script writers and directors especially that awful slam piece where the two guys ( one of them abby) engaged in sex, and Sony wants to censor DMC 5 and FF cause they portray woman as woman, shame on you. Playing as the antagonist, ND wants to be edgy and blur the lines but we all know Abby is the bad guy. And to go through all of that and then a flashback stops you from killing her is ridiculous, so you dont even get revenge.. that was such a big point/theme was revenge and it falls flat. Wont be supporting naughty dog again as they write material worse than fan fiction. On the black list you go with EA and Bethesda.

    Its also funny that most of the 10/10 user reviewers never rated anything else and echo what the weak critics reviews have said, they not handing out free review copys anymore people    … Expand

    I am enjoying this game. Naughty dog has continued their epic story by focusing on the repercussions of the actions in the first game. You see how not only Ellie is effected but the toll that the first game has on new characters. A story with complex characters and beautiful graphics. There’s a lot of hate for this gane for choices made story wise but I applaud naughty dog for telling aI am enjoying this game. Naughty dog has continued their epic story by focusing on the repercussions of the actions in the first game. You see how not only Ellie is effected but the toll that the first game has on new characters. A story with complex characters and beautiful graphics. There’s a lot of hate for this gane for choices made story wise but I applaud naughty dog for telling a relevant story that interested then. Even if it is polarizing.… Expand

    Graphics - amazing achievement
    Sound - great
    Acting - great (considering the script the actors had to work with)
    Gameplay - same as previous game, if you liked that you will like this but I see it as a negative due to the lack of innovation
    Story - absolutely awful and utterly unbelievable, ruined my love for the world ND built

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
