They killed off Joel so early in the series just so they can dangle flashback scenes just to make you feel sad is just is ridiculous. I would have at least wanted to see some note of those moments before killing Joel off. Forcing you play as Abby for the whole second half of the game was a stupid decision on their part. They don't make her a likeable so you'd actually want to play as her at all before forcing you to. She's an adulterer with no remorse for killing Joel right after he saved her. I know Joel's crimes were atrocious but so are abby's and the whole WLF's. Pulling the whole: "look how relatable and human these **** are... you know the ones who slaughtered people and whole towns. But look they've got dogs, families, kids, and schools. Ooo they didn't kill Ellie and Tommy because they weren't targeting them so they must be good people" even though they're warmongers who've gotten an entire town that looks so impossibly perfect and pristine that its warmonger influences nowhere to be seen in it was so unbelievable that it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand the overall message, the execution was just awful. Thought I don't believe I don't believe my score should be as low as it is, I think Naughty Dog needs to get the message across that due to their track record and long 4+ year gaps they need to be held at a higher standard to what we ended up with this dissapointing game.… Expand

    They lied about so many things and the story had so many other options to end with and the direction they chose was probably the worst. Ellie should have killed abby or she should have never left home. But that just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the things that ruined the so long awaited release of this game..

The truth and context of this game is much worse than the leaks. Before I get into one of the worst stories ever. The gameplay is very average in today's modern gaming generation. There are minor improvements from the first game and enemy AI is dumb as ever. There are more cut scenes and walking than actual gameplay. SPOILER ALERT..... they destroyed all of your favorite characters. They dumb down Joel's character on purpose to make him weak and stupid. In the first game he was very smart and had a ton of experience. He didn't even trust a guy that was sick on the road. He chose to run him over. Later we find out that stranger on the road was not sick and it was all a set up. They do everything to make you dislike Joel and continue to spit on him. They have a trans female/male shoot him in the leg and torture him with a golf club right in the first 2 hours of the game. They spit on him literally. They made Ellie unlikable and a selfish human being. She kills everyone and continued to blame Joel for saving her life. She cared so much in saving humanity because she has the immunity but instead she became a lesbian and chose not to reproduce. Let that sink in. She even let's Abby the one that tortured and murdered Joel in front of her get away with it. Abby also bit off two of Ellie's fingers. Her letting Abby go is basically saying Joel deserved dying. A loveable character who is the main character of the game. There was no justice for Joel. This game robbed everything from you just for shock value. The current narrative of destroying the male character to make the female character rise is very weak story telling. It is disrespectful to both genders. Females even hate it. Worst of all the pacing of the story is horrible. You literally play as Abby the character we hate for half the game. They tried so hard to make us like her but none of it worked. This game is a waste of time and money and should have never been created as a sequel. The critics are liars and they don't care about what the fans want. They only care about their political narrative and force you to like something that you will never accept. Then they insult you by calling you names because you don't like the product they are praising. They are the worst kind of human being. Trust the gamers that actually love playing the kind of video games you like. Those are the ones who you should listen to. Vote with your wallet and avoid this dumpster fire. Why care for a game created by a studio that is run by Neil Druckmann who is a male feminist and does not care about the fans and the people he works with. That's why 75 percent of Naughty dog left the company due to how he treated them. This game is created by people that don't care about you and backed by people that hate you. The game wasn't made for the fans and gamers. Vote with your wallets and avoid this at all cost. Especially how they are trying to trick everyone with false advertisement into buying this. Dying light has better monsters. They ignored the story of trying to actually deal with the plague for this claptrap. I give it a 2 because it looks impressive enough. The mechanics are bland and you have absolutely zero agency with the two players. Think about it, this male 'feminist' takes away the agency of the wronged woman protagonist. What was this game made for, other than some grotesque circle jerk with the writer and a mirror?
    Avoid the game and play something better.

    It seems as though the creators of this game tried so hard to make it different and unique, when in reality, they went against everything their audience wanted for the sequel. The character development was terrible, plot was tacky, loopholes everywhere. If they spent as much time building the story as they did make the game beautiful, we would have ended up with a much better game.

    The difference between the critic ratings and the player ratings is, by far, the most interesting story related to this game. More interesting than any of the in-game sermons from the LTBGQ writers. Save your money.

I don’t care for all the reviews on here that are aggravated at the notion that naughty dog altered some of the characters sexuality or whatever, I don’t see how that explains why the story is so poor. What made me so angry throughout my playthrough is how they not only robbed me of playing as the character I loved, but made me sympathize with Abby, and try to vilify Ellie. I **** hated playing this game, they turned one of the most lovable and relatable characters into someone who would throw everything away for revenge like some dumb, unlikeable antagonist. Honestly just so ****g pissed that they ruined Ellie, i wanted to punch through my monitor throughout all the ending cutscenes.     Why are producers doing these terrors against their fans? This is a game with a feeling of inferiority to the movie. Naughty Dog's cinematic game should have ended in Uncharted 2.
    Other producers shouldn't imitate and critics who gave high scores do not give convincing explanations.

You can just be on your knees the whole time and you're completely invisible to enemies. Are you facing an enemy face to face? not a problem! just "stealth kill" him with a push of a button.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a truly disapointing experience and a gargantuan pile of garbage. This game claims to be against violence, yet nothing until the very final moment of the game even remotely supports this. Surprisingly enough, I did not mind the brutal carnage at all. The only positive thing about this game is that, unlike the first Last of Us, this game provides a believable context for the dark imagery, callous violence, and pessimistic viewpoint of the main character and supporting cast. The violence is justified in the eyes of the main character and you really feel the rage and empathize with the protagonist. I have never before in my life been invested in a revenge tale. This was the very first time I truly felt a burning desire for everyone who wrongs the protagonist to die in the most barbarous fashion possible. This desire is potentiated and made possible by everyone who wrongs the main character to themselves be nothing to admire or empathize with. The supporting cast of "antagonists" are just as flawed, thirsting for violence, and lacking in higher moral ambition the way the main character, Ellie, is. This makes slaughtering them not only feel good, but it is also very organic and contextualized properly within the game. This game was an absolute masterpiece in every way shape and form until the final moments of the game, which was so ludicrously awful, and such a let down that I wanted to call Naughty Dog myself and complain. In one split second in the end, the masterful gameplay, the dazzling visuals, the perfect survival horror and tense combat elements, wonderful dark cinematography, bone-crushing sound, and near-perfect production values, were all negated by the biggest buzz-killer and disappointment of an ending I have ever experienced in a game or in any type of medium in my entire life. Ellie sparing Abby is not only disappointing, but totally out of context. She sacrificed everything, killing hundreds of people, leaving behind the only person who loves her(Dina), leaving their home and new child, and having nothing left to live for except her final push for revenge. Then, she chooses to spare her?! Nothing in the games message, its own personal lust for revenge, or any context provided by it or Ellie could possibly support this act. By the time the sparing of Abby happens she already is past the point of no return and must see it through for all that she has lost in the game to be worth it. Ellie is not some saint to be redeemed at the time of that final moment. She's already killed hundreds of people, denied herself a future through the compassion of the woman she loves and who can provide her some semblance of grounding in reality and happiness, torn across state lines in a self-destructive path for revenge, and made it very clear to herself that she will as she puts it "Kill every last one of them." As I said before I never thought I would be this invested in Ellie and Joel's revenge but I was. I'm always against violence and brutality and believe in the power of forgiveness and moving on. However, due to no ones fault but Naughty Dog, the revenge and violence was so believable and in context and I never thought I would hear myself say that I savagely enjoyed every slaying of the "antagonist cast" in all of its brutal and revenge-infused violence. This is in part due to the fact that the antagonist cast is not very strong on moral high-ground either. They are just as deserving to die and repent for their selfish engagement in warring with other factions than Ellie is. I wanted Abby to die with all my heart I was literally mashing the square button in a desperate attempt to kill her by drowning, yet when I almost drowned her, the game forcefully robs you of making your entire journey through the game worth it for you the player and worth it for Ellie ,who on top of losing everything loses 2 fingers and cant even play Joel's guitar anymore. She is left with nothing and killing Abby was the make or break point for this game. This game could have been one of the very best games ever made if naughty dog did not upend the entire worth of the game with that sham of an ending and final moments of the game. Way to go naughty dog for breaking my freaking heart and robbing me of an experience I invested 60$ and 30 hours of my time into. This could have been one of the greatest games of this console generation or possibly of all time. Way to go Naughty dog, you should be ashamed of yourself. Did you forget your loyal gamers whom you have a responsibility to? you must have. Yes go and collect your blood money from the numerous sales. The blood on that money is as bloody as the blood in the game. Ive chosen to forego complaining about the propoganda and social agenda aspects towards the LGBTQIA elements of the game for the more important elements that I have discussed above. You can't kill the main character in that way and then make us play with the character who killed her in order to connect with her. In all my playing hours with abby, I just wanted it to end and it made me hate her more. In addition to all that, the game makers also decided we would chase and try to kill Ellie. What the f were you thinking at the moment? People wanted to see ellie and joel. Not freaking abby for half the game!

    I played the whole game just because of the lies from Neil Druckman, Naughty Dog and Sony. It is not so important, what your own opinion on this game is but to lie at your costumers to sell your stuff can NEVER be a right way. So i won´t get my money back so there is only one consequence: Don´t ever again buy anything where Druckman is involved.

It left such a horrible taste in my mouth that after completing this, I didn't play another game for more than a month. I completely lost interest in gaming for so many days, that was the extent of frustration I had with this game.

    Now, you have no idea how much it sucks for me to say all of this because the original Last of Us game holds a dear place in my heart, it is one of my favourite games of all time and I've been dying to play Part II ever since. As you can see, my patience was rewarded with something so incompetent that it completely fails to capture the soul of its predecessor in nearly every aspect. Instead, it acts as a clone which tries to bask in the glory of its predecessor while making a mockery out of it.

    If Naughty Dog's motive was just to make loads of money and completely divide their loyal fanbase, then congrats! They did a fantastic job, they created a typical blockbuster in terms of total sales. However, if their purpose was to recreate that magic from the first game, then it is like I mentioned earlier, they screwed up.

    This is an ENORMOUS DOWNGRADE from the previous entry, it doesn't deserve to be a sequel to The Last of Us and that's why I'm giving it the lowest possible rating.

    Naughty Dog treated this sequel like a new IP and experimented way too much with it. They changed things that didn't need to change. The base material was completely altered. Moreover, a certain new character is forced upon us, or more precisely, shoved down our throats.

    We wanted more of The Last of Us, we wanted more of Joel and Ellie and we were deprived of that.    … Expand

I cant believe how disconnected the director for the game is from the fans. Did he think that his first game was a brilliant masterpiece because of his amazing innovate ideas that he could only build on in the sequel? The truth is the man just got plain lucky. Joel and Ellie were perfectly designed, cast, voiced, and just overall amazing. Somehow this game director (Druckmann) completely forgot that Joel and Ellie are the franchise. Instead of further building on perhaps the greatest duo since Jordan and Pippen, he decided to go the opposite route and try to punish you for loving the first game. Now don't get me wrong, i fully expected that eventually Joel would die because this really feels like Ellie's story, that being said he went about it in a terrible way and does the character no justice. Furthermore, he robs the audience of the Joel and Ellie dynamic which made the first game one of the greatest stories ever told. Haters and lovers of the game both agree on the same thing, the best scene in the game is the Joel and Ellie flashback at the museum. That's what we wanted and that's what we waited 7 years for. To go back into that world and somehow feel what we felt all those years ago with the first one. Instead of building on that they introduce a character that people despise and force you to play as her for half the game AND at a cliffhanger point in the story. Druckmann severely underestimated the love fans had for Joel and i believe it ended up biting him in the ass with all the controversy surrounding this game. Now i can get into the various plot holes and poor sequencing of the game but i feel as though everybody here is well aware of them already. I will cut to the ending which is so depressing. People don't play video games because they crave reality. I fire up my playstation to escape reality and not have to deal with whatever depressing subject is going on in today's world and this ending makes me want to run into the depression outside. I get what they went for at the end but they pretty much decided to kill off both characters we loved so much in the end (one physically and one mentally). To have it end on such a note and with any possible sequel coming in 7 years is a hard pill to swallow. Everything aside from the story was as good as it gets, especially the music. However The Last of Us is a Joel and Ellie game and what Druckmann ended up doing to them is what a majority of the fan base is doing to this game right now. The only redemption that's left is to do a part 3 and give the characters the proper story and send-off they deserve. Do your characters right because they put this franchise on the map. Also my final thought; if people think I'm biased because of the LGBT in the game well you can **** right off. Ellie being gay didn't feel forced or thrown in to please a crowd. Ever since we were introduced to her she was fierce and we all loved her for it. Giving her a love triangle and writing her as gay didn't feel forced or unnecessary. We love Ellie and we are all happy she found love in her life. Please Naughty Dog, go back to the drawing board and really look back at the first game and do right by the fans.… Expand
