    While the gameplay delivers a couple of good loops like the original, the tone and story completely ruin this game. This beautiful looking game is ugly and unkind on the inside and for the first time in my gaming life.... I did NOT like this game at all.

    The story is a boring revenge plot filled with unfulfilled characters and a story forces all the nuance that was once found in the original LOU to be squeezed out of the game to fit thier boring revenge plot storyline.

    The pacing of how the story is told is horrible, with long winded parts of the game rehashing obvious character motivations tied in with other characters that felt completely wasted. If you're a big LOU fan and have been waiting for this game, I reccomend you wait till it goes on sale or borrow it if you can to play it, that way if you end up hating it as much as I do you won't feel like you wasted a lot of money.    … Expand

    Well, i played the game knowing what was going to happend because of the spoilers, but in the end It was way worst then i expected. I really felt miserable playing this game.
    At times i would put the controller away and think, "hell i dont wanna play this crap anymore".

I loved Joel, he made the first game awesome, and an hour and a half into the game he gets his face smashed in with a gold club and spit on. Ellie goes on a brutal revenge killing spree but in the end when finally given the chance to kill the person you set out for, decides "killing is bad". Made almost the whole game a pointless... This game is awful. Don't buy it. Play the first game and leave it at that.… Expand

    Ending is super boring where nothing is achieved and you felt like you did nothing as Ellie. Joel dies in the stupidest way which is super out of character for him I mean he could of survived by using a fake name or not saying anything at all. Naughty Dogs behavior in trying silence the community is disgusting and shows they're in denial. Failure of a sequel

    El apartado de historia es en donde muchos se estan quejando, y eso es solo por seguir los comentarios de algunos haters y youtubers ya que desde el dia 1 habia muchas quejas y es imposible terminarte el juego en 1 solo dia.

    Awful gameplay/combat mechanics copy/pasted from uncharted 2. Terrible enemy AI that'll basically walk into your crosshairs. Worse than that, narrative decisions that ruin the characters we fans from the first game. Linear movie game that doesnt tell a decent story. False/ deceptive marketing leading to games release.

    The game is pretty and game play is great. It improves upon the original and I loved it through and through.
    The flash back scenes feels like the real last of us. They have emotional weight and have some good character development for Ellie.
    These are the only good things I found in the game.

    Bad parts:
    Do the infected even matter in this universe now? There was no significant story arc involving infected. You can simply remove them from the equation, replace them with human and story barely changes a bit.

    There is another big problem in story that affects game play in a very bad way.
    You can't sympathize with Abby at all when you have a control of her. I started to not search for supplies with her and die on purpose just to see her die.
    The game gives Abby all the cool weapons and the boss fights to make you like her but the first act of killing Joel probably the most loved character and some dialog in game itself depicts her as a horrible human being. Why would anyone want to play as her for 10 hours?

    I loved the last of us and thought it did not need a sequel. It was probably the best story telling in video game that I have ever played. But they had to ruin my memory with this game.
    The only way to explain story with an analogy is a dog taking a giant crap, steps on it and walks everywhere. It is stinky, messy and all over the place.    … Expand

    This game is overall mediocre as hell with no real advancements from the first. While I find mediocrity the worst mind of bad out there, it's the writing team, namely Neil Druckman that truly deserves the 0 star rating for how much he has butchered the plot.

    Joel's decision, which I thought was ambiguous in the first game, has been retroactively condemned and deemed "the wrong thing to do." Nonsense, if anything his actions were absolutely correct even if he hated Ellie.

    The characters are shallow, cardboard cutouts and the game is preachy. The advertisements were outright misleading, to the point that people should be able to demand a refund. Abby is a horrible character, and one you are forced to spare after being forced to play her and watch her ruin everything for the characters you actually enjoy.    … Expand

Joel, the main protagonist from the first game, is brutally murdered by Abby. Most of the characters from the first game act contrary from how they were in the first game. You are forced to play as Abby in a petty revenge story even after brutally murdering him. Ellie kills most of the group that hunted down and killed Joel. In the end, Ellie, after losing everything lets Abby go. This is so ridiculous. The story is one of the worst I've ever encountered in a video game. The marketing was also manipulated so that players thought that Joel was still alive and would play a bigger role in the game.… Expand

What happens would have happened regardless. Nobody wants to play as the person who killed off their favorite characters. I'm very sure people would've easily wanted to play as Joel but they never do unless you count that tiny horseback part before his death. What you're left with afterwards is an awkward uncomfortable scene that feels forced and less of these M-rated scenes should even be in gaming in my opinion. You get a lackluster revenge story afterwards with the lead up being anticlimactic and just felt like the entire journey was pointless. This game strips everything that was good about the first game's story and defeats the entire purpose of everyone's character in the first game. Joel from the first game would have never even gotten himself killed like that because quite frankly, the Joel in this game is almost a completely different story. It's like the developers or director purposefully made him act stupider and weaker . It shows in full plain sight Joel dying but oh god forbid it shows Nora dying. What's creepy is the fact that Niel Druckman's self-inserted character is the one doing the M-rated scene with the other character. Nobody wants to play as Abby. Nobody wants to play as the character who murdered everyone's favorite character. I know I already said this but I need to say it again. This entire game was a farce that killed everyone's happiness in the span of almost a decade. Also take a look at the reviewers who gave this game a 10. You'll notice quite the pattern there.     There is a whole host of good in the game, but those diamonds are not worth the mountain of dirt needed to claw through to reach it. I will touch upon graphics, sound, gameplay, and then story.

    Graphics:

    Definitely a step up in visual fidelity for this generation. Facial animation rarely gets this good in AAA games. You will constantly be in awe at the amount of detail, design, and animation present. The game runs at checkerboard 4K on the PS4 pro, but unfortunately it runs at a capped 30fps and occasionally dips down to the low 20s, so if you're a PC gamer used to 60fps and above you may want to skip this. There is also this awful film grain effect always present that cannot be disabled like the motion blur and camera shake can be.

    Sound:

    Amazing sound design, the library of ambient and dynamic noise in this game is basically perfect. The music is perfect, although some segments of the gameplay are silent where you have no companion to speak to and no atmosphere to suck in. A good tune or two in these segments would have helped alleviate boredom. Another issue with the sound is that the volume mixing isn't as clean as it could be, your companion footsteps are just as loud as yours and enemies two rooms over can sound as if they're a few feet away. Rather than using your own sense of sound, you're a slave to the game's listen mode that highlights enemies through walls. I'm sure, however, that tweaking the deep sound settings could help this as you can tweak dynamic range, sound source angles, etc. The majority of players will not do this however.

    Gameplay:

    Rather than advancing the formula from the first game, Naughty Dog decided to advance it "diagonally", in that some things are better and some things are changed just for the sake of it. Swapping weapons before getting new holsters is the exact same except you press X instead of Square. Changing shoulder aim is still done while aiming but you press Square instead of R1. You still craft a few new items but sometimes they're just not worth using unless you're in a situation where you're desperately using everything you have. You can go prone in grass now to hide, but it's functionally the same as if they had just added more cover everywhere. You can jump but it's useless outside of linear traversal.

    Gunplay has not evolved in a meaningful way since the first game. You're still expected to go for headshots constantly, in spite of the artificial aim sway and having to aim with a thumbstick, as well as a bloomed reticule that never shrinks to pinpoint accuracy ala Red Dead Redemption. Do yourself a favor and disable camera sway in the accessibility options and increase your FOV. Enemies are still bullet sponges unless you get head-shots or opt for melee. You can easily be stun locked to death, or knocked down as an NPC tags you with a John Wick shot the second you poke your head out. Though combat never gets hard, it can easily be more annoying than fun at times. The game clearly wants to encourage stealth.

    The stealth in this series has not taken any meaningful less from the greatest stealth games released in the past decade. Enemies have more realistic sight lines (sometimes, sometimes you can walk clear past them in plain view) meaning you need to move between cover more often and look for openings. However, you have a very slow movement speed meaning if an enemy decides to randomly turn around you have to pray you'll make it to the next bit of cover before he sees you. Even this is inconsistent though, as VERY often I'll be detected up to 5 seconds after moving behind cover. TLOU1 and 2 also commit the stealth game sin where one enemy detects you and everyone knows where you are, even if they don't get a chance to shoot or scream.

    The tools they give you to navigate these stealth challenges are basic; some silenced weapons, throwables, and a takedown. Silenced weapons are only useful if you can reliably headshot every enemy in the level first try. Throwables are abundant, until they aren't. Melee takedowns are incredibly slow and can get you in more trouble than sneaking by, only effective if near cover or isolated. Levels cannot be ghosted intuitively first try, as it relies more on map knowledge and patrol routes than skill.

    The "puzzles" in this game are awful and usually just amount to going the long way or reusing elements you'll learn in the first 3 hours without any creativity, or finding a paper that gives you a safe combo.

I been playing video games more than 40 years and I have played many sequels. I seen ups and downs over the years, saying that, I have never looked forward to a game more than this game, I put up with all of the delays, I bought the special edition and eagerly waited to play, I have spent over 25 hours over the last 5 days playing it. I have never been so disappointed. The first half of the game was really great, but when I was forced to play as Abby, I felt sick to my stomach. If I would have know I was going to be forced to play a character that I hated, I would not have bought the game day one, would have waited until the price dropped. The only enjoyment I got was finding repeatedly why to kill her, my favorite was, having her jump of the skyscraper bridge. I hate her so much and to play it just to finish the game is so wrong. I am not even going back to play it again to get the platinum trophy. So if love the first one, just wait the the greatest hits version come out. Btw I am not a bot. How about being an hour into the game and having all of that hope dashed. That's what naughty dog did. It's like Druckmann was watching the walking dead and taking pointers for shock value. "oh wow look at how people responded to Negan!" Shock value story telling is cheap. Am i really supposed to believe Joel, a guy from the first game who runs over a person looking for "help" because he assumes it's an ambush, is like "oh howdy partners, y'all should spend the night at our settlement and stock up on our resources even though I don't even know you? I initially defended this game when the leaks came out because i had trust in Naughty Dog because of past games. Never would i have imagined a company of this calibre would put out such a garbage piece of storytelling. I understand killing Joel his story was winding down anyway, but to do it an hour into the game just deflated the whole entire experience for me. And not only that you have to play as the person who kills Joel for like 8-9 hours. Who made these decisons??? mother of god man it's mind boggling. They also skip any funeral or memorial service for Joel which in honesty could have softened the blow a bit. But i didn't even want to continue but i kept playing anyway. Got to a point where Ellie is caught basically in a hurricane on a boat, nearly drowns so she can go kill a member of the wolves and when she does she almost dies if i remember correctly and Tommy saves her and then they're back at the theater.........do you see where i'm going the story is all over the place it's messy and unnecessary. This game could have cut a bunch of mindless moments where you're just going around and getting dialogue events in the stadium as Abby for instance. At least give it a trophy for getting those events but no it doesn't matter. The ending of the game was also hot garbage. Ellie is living with Dina after nearly dying at the hands of Abby(who you play) and Abby says to her "if i ever see you again i'll kill you." So cut to ellie and dina living in an old home on some farm and Ellie is still feeling the effects of Joel's death to a point where it scares herself and dina. So ellie decides "No i have to finish it." At this point as a player i was like "finally let's go kill her."
    Side note lev and yara and their mom seemed like a completely pointless story line altogether because when you go to confront his mother she's already dead at the hands of Lev.
    Anyways ellie sets off to California because magically Tommy overheard that Abby was spotted in California. Santa Barbara to be exact, so she goes there rinse repeat, take out "rattlers" and get to Abby. So you finally reach Abby and Lev and her are both tied to their own crucifix basically. So Ellie cuts them down, Abby begs for her life and Ellie is ready to let them go, but she changes her mind and decides to fight Abby to the death. Ellie gets the upper hand and starts drowning Abby and lets her up and lets her go and they sail off into oblivion. Ellie goes back to the farm to discover Dina isn't there. She tries to play guitar but Abby bit off two of ellie's fingers during the fight so now she can't even do that anymore. Ellie leaves the house and the game ends. I've never felt more empty playing a game it was meant to feel a certain way but it backfired miserably. The whole Scar story line seemed wasted as well, we could have discovered they had some crazy beliefs but most of them burned sadly because of incompetent wtiting. Playing this game makes the entire events of the first game seem irrelevant, why not just kill Joel off when he landed on rebar? No, you guys made us like and care for him and took him away for shock value. Graphics and gameplay are good but thats about it    … Expand
