I am just hoping that all of these thing that happened are not made by the decisions of Druckmann and it's somebody else fault. I respect guy to much. I would rather have to wait another 7 years to get new TLOU 2 with completely new story and never get TLOU 3. My heart is broken and minds confused. Probably never going to play this game again. But definitely going i am going to play TLOU once again. Expand

Welcome back to the Mushroom kingdom. From the music, the extreme detail of technical mastery that blend with the narrative history, this game demonstrates what Naughty Dog can deliver and I am happy that I am able to experience it now.
Only ND can imprint the level of details in the player surroundings, leaving the quest for finding them to you, notes on the wall, dusty coffee machines, posters, concert ads, employee of the month charts, multi-contact outlets with the known “flashy” light typical of this devices when they are off.
I dedicated my time looking for every inch in the game to appreciate the details, I was amazed by the details on Ellie’s feelings and how her expression perfectly described that, I remember seeing Dina’s face and recalling a Jordanian friend whose name was also Dina, and how middle eastern both looked. I appreciated going back to the weapon and upgrading system, it felt organically well. I recorded the sound of preparing a Molotov bomb, the sound of the gasoline being poured in the bottle is like “Sound porn”. How the backpack reacted to Ellie’s movements, how can you tear apart with the suffering, the fear of being spotted, the sadness and desperation of your actions, the unease of knowing you will do something that isn’t nice to digest. How stressful the music makes you feel when enemies are around and then the perfect pauses where you learn more about the characters, and what drives them to do what they do.
ND owns the history and I thank them for letting me experience it, as it is, from their mind and hearts. Play it....live it, enjoy it.

When you can get past your own expectations, look past the things you hold onto from the last game and accept the fact that this is anew game not the old one - honestly, this game goes beyond all expectations. The details in this game is beyond belief. The story telling could have been a little better but nothing worth removing a point for. The set pieces, the texturing, the animations, the lighting, the audio, the physics and literally everything in this game is better than probably any other game I have played this generation. I wish more games were like this. Oh and yes some people die, there are lesbians in it and some other things things that may not be culturally or morally correct according to some. get over it. its a game. its a piece of art. People who rate this 0 are obviously those who haven’t played/finished the game just so they could hop on the bandwagon. The graphics are amazing and breathtaking! I despise Abby to be honest, but as her story continues I think i’m kinda getting her (still not like her tho) but her story arcs are actually good imo. Loved the Joel/Tommy/Ellie flashbacks plus the bonus content when Ellie sang Take Me On inside the Music Shop (made me cry). The ending feels sorta empty tho like there’s something big missing. But all in all I actually enjoyed it. I call bsh*t on the haters and fanboys **** on this game. Joel’s death was so sad and sudden and unfair but that’s just life. Ending scene where Joel and Ellie was having a talk by the porch made my heart hurt like hell :(( I would play it again now in survival mode! :D Wish me luck! Expand

Having to play as the character responsible and trying to make her story sympathetic just wasn't going to work. Maybe if the original Last of US didn't exist and we just got Joel's story in flashbacks it could have worked. We were already connected to those characters and thought we were continuing their story. There was no justification they could give me that would allow me to like this other character after she did what she did. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us gave us an exploration of characters who we came to understand deeply throughout the time that we spent with them. In Part II, we are shown that careful characterization from all sides of conflict. Ellie is no longer the hero, but rather just a lost character desperately trying to do something that would make her life "mean something." The only way she can fathom to do this is to seek revenge for Joel's death by understanding what Joel was, because she was hurt by his actions, rather than what Joel has become after they settled in Jackson.

Contrast this with Abby's character, which mirrors Joel's, we understand the confusion and guilt that can lead to a change of heart and return to humanity for the character. Ellie may be the one with the moth tattoo. But she spends the entire game failing to "follow the light." She fails at every turn and is punished for it as she puts the people around her in danger. Abby on the other hand, grows throughout the game to understand that she doesn't have to lose hope. There is still light for her to follow. The last shot of the game, with the moth on the guitar and Ellie in the background shows that she has finally accepted Joel for what he grew to rather than as a product of his horrific past. She accepts her last memories of Joel and then goes off into the world to follow the light and do right by him. So damn good man.

Game play is actually fun this time around. Previously, combat felt slow and frustrating. Now, you are given freedom to approach encounters with enemies in a variety of ways. When gun fighting really kicks up, things feel frantic and rushed. The improved movement and aiming help to sell this as you can move in and out of hand to hand, to range fighting, to running away seamlessly. All the while the game maintains a brutal realism through the weight behind each action. Killing in hand to hand takes time and is messy while firing at range is high stakes to make each shot count.

10/10. Seeing these two characters grapple with ideas of maturity in a world where childhood was never afforded to them is painful to watch in such a meaningful way. Beyond that game play is enjoyable this time around the length and variety present in the game absolutely makes it worth every penny.

Naughty Dog cut out the crunch time in your games. People deserve better than that.

I don't know where most of the controversy came from on the trans character. personally it made sense in the context of the game. but playing as Abby and attempting to kill Ellie was what drop my score to a 7. I almost completely stopped playing because I feared that I would end up killing one of the most beloved video characters of this decade. but I fought on and finished it. in the end I liked the ending, I understood the emotion implications and why Ellie did what she did. but I couldn't help but root for Ellie to kill Abby, Naughty Dog did a terrible job trying to make us like her character. I hate Abby with a passion. I give the game credit as it is hard to make a game better than the first "Last of Us" but I think maybe they should of left this game alone. the first game inst tarnished for me but I could see how it could do so to others.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a really powerful game, I’m currently on my second play through which I recommend. This is also the first time I have ever cried during a game, I have never been so invested in characters like this.

When I first played the game I disliked Abby in the beginning but then I took a moment and realised in this universe I would have done the same if someone had murdered my dad. She is parallel with Ellie in her hunt for revenge. These are both women going after a person who has murdered their dad/father figure. These characters are neither good nor bad but this is also due to the circumstances of their environment. You can love Joel and Ellie and still like Abby, it is not one or the other. It’s important to take a moment to put yourself in the characters shoes, why are they taking this steps, what has happened to them? These are characters full of trauma. Ellie and Abby have been raised where brutal violence is the norm, if anything necessary to survive. Playing this game, my main hope was for this cycle of violence to be broken and that’s what makes it so heartbreaking, at the end we are left with two people who are shells of themselves, completely broken. Honestly I could go on and on. Best game I’ve ever played. Gameplay and visuals, everything was superb.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Many people will be devastated playing this game and feel betrayed that the story didn't end up going the way they wanted but does that mean it's a bad story. No. The world in this game is a bleak and brutal world and the story has to be as well.
A bold move by naughty dog to make you play as joels killer 'Abby' but throughout the her story you come to realise her life was destroyed because of joels and ellies actions, I for one loved playing as her and felt a deep sympathy for the amazing beefcake.
The revenge feeling of ellie is great when you first start the campaign killing as many WLFs as you can but when it switches perspectives to Abbys point of view you realise you have been killing people with loved ones, the pain I felt realising I've killed dogs who have names and who you can play fetch with really broke my heart.
By the end of the seattle storyline I didn't want to kill any WLF or Sephrarites because after hearing in game dialogue I came to feel sorry for them. As the game shows theres no real good guys or bad guys in this world, only people trying to survive and build communities.
The end scene with joel and ellie trying to move on and start again really hit hard knowing Joel dies the following day and they never got the chance to start over, seeing joels voice crack when speaking to her really hurts. This is a story of revenge and how taking revenge puts you in a cycle of violence and a world full of hate which will only bring you nothing out of it for example abby killing joel leads to all of her friends dying and ellie trying to hunt down abby leads to friends dying her losing dina and the baby.
The fight between ellie and abby at the end is a really tough one to play through because i love both characters and didn't want to see one kill the other and was relieved when ellie finally puts her revenge behind her and stops letting abby and lev leave and go.
Don't be mad at having to play as a lesbian woman or a hulking woman cos both are very great characters, it's 2020 enjoy playing as women and grow up. Also about time a trans character makes an appearance in a video game, what a character lev is.
Don't listen to the majority of negative reviews cos most gamers haven't even finished the game it's currently on 18% of people who have completed it so anyone who hasn't finished the story has no right to even write a review.
Loved everything about the game, personally I preferred the first games story but the second games story is just as amazing and shouldn't be discredited because you didn't expect it to go your way. The last of us 2 really opens up the world and shows how a revenge story has consequences on the person enacting the revenge.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Last of us 2 isn't a terrible game but it is a badly written one. First of all, I believe it is important to state that the graphics in this game is only what can be described as a technical marvel. The grass glows with a green hue simultaneously with the sun that casts a bleak shade of yellow onto Seattle and it helps bring this game to life. The music is also very emotional and I love the idea of Joel still being alive in the heart of Ellie through the medium of music. The gameplay of last of us 2 is nearly identical to its predecessor with a few new added additions like trail sniffing dogs, the ability to prone and jump, some new infected enemy types, and some boss battles that admittedly do feel lackluster but ultimately the majority of these additions were welcome. The real meat and potatoes of last of us 2 is its story as last of us is a story-driven game and this definitely where the review score drops dramatically. Joel's death purely exists out of coincidence which adds to the overall contrived and superficial feeling to the plot. Tommy and Joel find themselves in a room with the daughter of one of the surgeons operating on Ellie in the first game who Joel decided to kill. Tommy foolishly gives his and his brother names out to the strangers and even offers them to come back to the Jackson settlement for food and supplies. This is beyond out of character for both Joel and Tommy since they're both very uptight character due to the things they have seen and even in the first game they show a lot of examples of this but due to script convenience, the writers decided to find a basic and ridiculous way to kill Joel. We as gamers are not against the idea of killing a character loved by many but the execution here is not only disrespectful but very contrived and badly thought out as it's decided by coincidence and stupidity. The first half of the game we play as Ellie on a revenge quest to get to Abby in which we see Ellie mentally damaged by her actions and instantly shows a lot of regrets and even suffers from PTSD by the end of the game. In the 2nd half, we play as a new character named Abby who was the daughter of the surgeon mentioned prior. This game uses a lot of blatant manipulation tactics to make you sympathize with Abby. Ellie is forced to kill dogs in hard scripted segments wherein abbys section you are hard scripted to play with dogs twice as well as watch a cutscene in which a zebra is saved from barbed wire. Abby is also given the most innovative and interesting segments as well as the best weapons. This is so contrived, the game wants us gamers to like Abby so badly but if you can see through the writing intentions then the immersion is instantly broken and there are loads of incredibly confusing character decisions like how Mel is totally fine with going into battle being 8 months pregnant and how many times characters are let alone to live after a massive exchange despite them recognizing and establishing the consequences that those who were spared will come looking for them and a lot of the time their prediction was correct making their decision stupid. Joel kills Marlene to ensure that she doesn't come looking for them, this makes sense for his motivations and character. Abby is a cruel and unremorseful character that is so desperately made to look a hero through cheap manipulation tactics whilst incriminating Joel and Ellie who have both done terrible things but we can relate to their motivations as they make sense but this game tries everything to make you dislike these characters. The moral of last of us 2 is very basic: REVENGE IS BAD. It is hammered into your mind to the point the viewer faces emotional fatigue making the game not engaging which I feel wasn't the goal of this game. Last of us 2 is ambitious for the sake of it and doesn't justify its new attempt at storytelling. A film like no country for old men is a great example of subverting expectations but not for pretentious reasons but to fit the narrative that is being told, artsy and new styles are welcome but should be handled with great intelligence because when its dealt with laziness and less talented individuals. We find contrived plots with plot holes and what seems to be a great sense of manipulation. it is easy to write a shocking story that subverts expectations, but it's hard to write a good story with well thought out events and characters. I had serious reservations going in owing to the massive outrage the spoilers had created, which I myself somehow managed to avoid, and some key moments pissed me off just as much as the rest of them, but it didn’t detract from the experience. If anything, the events in question lent credence to the overarching narrative that would otherwise have been unconvincing and unsustainable in the long run. Characters are well written, extremely well acted, and complex in ways that I’ve personally never experienced before - I spent most of my time not knowing whether I loved them or hated them.. but I was never apathetic towards them - I spent much of the game debating internally as to who’s side I was really on, and I don’t think I ever got a conclusive answer. Bottom line is, I think this one is just as well written and well directed if not more so than the first one.

As for the rest of the stuff that constitutes a video game, everything is top notch here. The visuals, sound design, gameplay, moment to moment stuff is all some of the best I’ve seen to date. What really impressed me were the animations and how everything in the world reacts to your presence. Characters interact with the world and each other in convincing ways, there’s weight and inertia to your every move which adds to the realism and serves to raise the already lofty stakes even higher. The atmosphere is superb.. Post apocalypse Seattle is gorgeous while simultaneously being oppressive and foreboding. There are moments here that had my heart going faster than even the most accomplished horror games have managed to achieve, and yet I couldn’t help reveling in the glory of what Naughty Dog have created here. So often I found myself stopping dead in my tracks and panning around just to take it all in.

The gameplay is also first rate here. I will concede that it may not be for everyone, and if you’re looking to play a traditional third person shooter with over the top action then you’ll likely be disappointed. This game moves slowly, forcing you to absorb all the sensory stimulus it throws your way, then kicks it up out of the blue and sends you scrambling for cover. Everything here is deliberate and requires commitment from the player. In short, it is the most natural feeling evolution of the gameplay from the original - it’s more refined, mature and enjoyable, but if you didn’t like it in the original, you likely won’t enjoy it much here.

All in all, I am so incredibly glad I didn’t buy into the negative hype and avoid this game like I was considering doing at one point shortly after the leaks came out. This is an absolute must for anyone who played and enjoyed the original. At the risk of sounding cheesy (cheeky?), my only real gripe with the game is that it has effectively ruined 98% of all other games for me going forward. I was attempting to play this other game last night shortly after beating the last of us 2, and I couldn’t help but notice the clunkiness of the animations, the texture clipping, the lack of reaction from the environment to my character, and I'm talking about a game that I had played previously and thought was perfectly fine up until I played the last of us. Seriously, just seriously, do NOT listen to the review bombers with political agendas here - you do NOT wanna miss this one.

Reading leaks, and watching streamers play it doesn’t do it justice as they either are wrong, or talk over or walk away during cutscenes. Watch a game with no to little commentary, or play it yourself. Graphics: amazing. Not the greatest but still real dang good. It’s gritty when it needs to be, its colorful at times, and has some amazing set pieces I wish we were in longer. Gameplay: very similar to Part 1 although there are some changes and they’re impactful for stealth, combat and traversal. Combat is violent and gore fueled and it fits the narrative being told her. Story: This is a story about Hatred and having your life be consumed by it. There will be things you do not like and hate. That’s the point. I got so mad at a point I quit playing for a day. That’s okay, you’re feeling the game as you should be. People say the story is simple, and yeah It is a simple story, but that allows for a lot of character growth and depth. I mean LoU part 1 was a simple story and look at the depth of it. So a few things. People say it pushes an agenda. I didn’t feel that at all. Yes there is a lesbian couple. Yeah there is a trans person. The lesbian couple is focused on as that’s a huge character dynamic but it feels organic and not forced specially if you read the journals. The interaction with the Trans character literally goes like... A: hey I’m ..enemy: “hey ... A turns to MC “do you want to talk about that” ... MC “no I don’t care about it” there is one more 2 sentence explanation on it but that’s akin towards tribal law and tribals duties which has major character spoilers so I’ll leave it out. TLDR: I would give this game an 8.5 out of 10. The story has depth to it and is really good and compelling. Although there are some Hangups on it, that I don’t totally like or agree with. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 1 was an emotional experience, and it captivated players all around the world for just how well it was actually written. this game is no different. First things first, this is NOT a perfect game. I can agree that this game could have been better, there are 2 major plot points in which I do not agree with. (if you played the game you most definitely know the 2) For starters, Ellie is an amazing protagonist, she is acted extremely well and her story is so dark, that you can't help but feel for her. I personally LOVE Ellie as a protagonist, but I can't help but think that the only reason I like her is because of the base the Last of Us 1 has set up. The flashbacks in which Ellie appears are the best parts of the game, but as I just said, the first game is the only reason in which I am so wrapped up in the story. To top it off, Ellie never gets her moment in this game, she never gets her resolve, no revenge, no shining moment. She simply just gets absolutely low balled by Neil Druckman, and I have no Idea why. Aside from Ellie never shining, I do admire Naughty Dog's attempt to make you feel for the main antagonist. It's bold, but I feel like it doesn't quite work. The flashbacks as Abby just didn't captivate me as much as Ellie's did, and in the end I still wanted Abby dead. Naughty Dog took a great leap in hoping the player would feel for Abby, but I am here to say that I think killing Abby, in the theater, where the protagonist and antagonist finally meet, would've been so much better. Imagine playing as Abby for 10+ hours, making it to the theater where Ellie is hiding, only to get shot by Ellie in the head. That would've been so much more powerful than letting Abby live because the character you just controlled for 10 hours and her story are all erased by a single bullet. It carries so much more weight than this "meta" narrative that Neil tries to push. Those are my only gripes with this game. The story could've been as powerful as the Last of Us 1, but it just falls flat.
Now if you are still reading, (thanks if you are), I'm going to sum up my review in a quick paragraph about the game-play. I love it. If you enjoy the Uncharted series and Last of Us game play, you will love this game's game play. There is tense moments of hide and seek action and split second crafting decision making that truly make it a tense experience. The infected are smarter and the AI is tough to defeat. (I played on Hard btw) The stealth is fun and there is burst of action scenes like in Uncharted that truly make both Ellie's and Abby's journey really adrenaline filled. Not only has the game-play improved, but cinematically and stylistically, killing a person in a video game has never been so gruesome. Stabbing people in the throat and watching them choke on their own blood, throwing molotovs at dogs and hearing them cry as their owner just watches them burn, hitting and infected in the head with a hammer and hearing their skull getting crushed. THIS GAME IS GRUESOME and I love it. Naughty Dog really outdid themselves with the combat and action scenes.
So overall, this is by no means a bad game, hence my 7 out of 10 rating, but it could have been an amazing game with just a few tweaks to the story. If you read my entire essay, thanks and I hope you enjoy this game too!!!

The gameplay added a few new elements but kept it mostly the same as before, although it was way too often taking on other humans and not nearly enough of taking on the infected. I also would have like more 'no kill' solutions in all the environments (minus boss fights), where you could sneak through completely or kill everyone.

The graphics were stunning (HDR mode was very nice option) and the new elements keep this game up where it belongs as one of the best of the year.

The drawback was forcing us to play as Abby .. there were lots of opportunities for her to be redeemable before Lev and even after Lev she wasnt really close to redeemable until she was on the posts at the end. When she only cared about Lev and not revenge.

Too many new factions introduced and very little story involving them and their motivations. Each of those could have been individual stories, instead they were glimpses and after thoughts.

This should have been a straight play as Ellie with the early play as Abby all that was needed to get you introduced to the character and setup the rest of the game as revenge for Joel after Ellie had decided to forgive him.

And for all I read about 'open world', this game is large, but not even close to open world. Each area has one way in and one way out(regardless of how large they are) .. and you generally have to kill everyone or everything to get out.

I will play again, but I do not love this game the way I loved the first one. It was close, but it could have been game of the decade with a few tweaks.

My initial review of the game was 7.5/10, but I've had a couple of days to reflect on it, and I now think it is a 9/10. The story is not one you would normally see in a video game. It's sad, it's dark, and it's a brutal view of what an obsessive quest for revenge can do to the people around you.

The pacing is definitely a little slow. I think, if they would have re-arranged how the story was presented, it would have been much better executed, rather than forcing you to relate to someone who is very clearly a villainous character.

Of course, the visuals are stunning, and so intricately filled with detail. The gameplay is very similar to TLOU1, but has some definite improvements and new features.

The entire atmosphere of the game is haunting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Crawling through tight spaces, you KNOW that you're in for a scare the entire time, and yet, when it happens, it is still startling.

I would 100% recommend that anyone play both games.

An absolute masterpiece. The attention to detail in the gameplay and artwork is stunning. And the story is an emotional rollercoaster that nothing will prepare you for. Cannot recommend this game enough.

The graphics on ps4pro are incredible. This is the best looking game that will release on the PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fantástica historia y seguimos esperando futuras entregas!!! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A story of ups and downs

    POSITIVE :

    Gameplay
Faithful to the first game with attention to detail and a few nice new features.
Small point of criticism > environmental puzzles and unlocking safes become cumbersome after a while

    Voice acting
    TOP notch
Actors know what they're doing and it's seamlessly synched with their motions (due to motion acting)

    Sounds & soundtrack
Beautiful, would've liked to hear more background music to support the mood.

    Graphics
One of the best-looking titles with stable framerate on PS4. Not a lot of bugs/glitches.

    MIXED FEELINGS:

    Storyline
It's not horrible, there are great and memorable moments to be found but overall, I feel let down. If I think too much on it, immersion = lost.

For me personally a story of revenge requires either fulfillment or redemption (forgive w/o regret).
There's none to be found here.

    Character assassination in cutscenes.
See a door? Let's go/burst right through it. While you as a player are either very careful (stealthy) or go in guns blazing with excellent marksmanship / next to unlimited health, in cutscenes the story takes control for the sake of plot and screws characters over. Not how I expect seasoned survivors/scouts to act in real life (and also how they did in the first part). Sorry, but this comes over as lazy writing really ...

Overtly use of flashbacks and character switches.
I get it, you want to show 2 sides of the story and help understand how these characters feel. Just don't exaggerate, it slows down the pace immensely and some storylines feel unneccessary.

    Strange take on pregnancy.
A woman who's pregnant for +6 months can parkour like a champ.
A woman who's pregnant for x weeks becomes jaded all of a sudden and can't move.
I don't get it, who thought this is close to true life and even respectful to women?

The hunt for Joel that isn't.
Abby by chance encounters Joel. He saves her.
First of all, what are the odds, lady Luck must be smiling on our new prota-/antagonist.
Second, there's no after-thought to the rescue, no duality in vengeance which would be the humane reaction.

Overall I'd rate it 6.5, a lot of work went in the development and really, it does show.
But the main story ... written for the sake of a mundane plot.

Finally, 3 lessons I take away from this adventure :
(and the protagonists should've done in the first place)

    1. if you're a renowned killer and you're outnumbered by strangers never tell them your real name

    2. if you see your dad point-blank being worked on with a golfclub, shoot first, ask questions later 3. the doors make for nice songs but are lethally hazardous, enter with care To Naughty Dog I say, when you write a storyboard, PROOF-READ it and check what works, what does not. Do NOT censor genuine points of criticism. Learn from mistakes and grow as a writer.

It is a masterpiece not only it's mechanics, but also in it's successful attempt at telling a compelling story without relying on fan-service but rather in tackling important themes such as justice and empathy.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
