    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just replayed TLOU1 and Left Behind 2 weeks ago, then finished this sequel during the weekend. I'll give 10 points to all the amazing graphics, level designs, some really cool cinematic moments and all the hard work people have put in making this game. But despite that, I'm giving a -10 for the poor story telling and for cheating us in the trailers.

    There are plot holes all over the game, and the actions of the main characters are simply not self-consistent. What Joel did at the end of the first game was selfish and horrible, but by sharing the same journey through the whole game, I can empathize with him. While in this sequel, I know and understand what the game is trying to tell me about revenge, but it just failed to make me empathize with the main characters and their choices. The closer I reach to the ending, the less feelings I have about this story. Just trying to see how it ends and get it over with. Similar feeling when I was watching the final season of Game of Thrones.

    I really wish this sequel never existed so I could keep the good memories on the fisrt game.    … Expand

    The game is bad, the trailer is misleading, the story is terrible and the 10 plus animal deaths were unnecessary. The gameplay is good but the game is very easy. 5/10.

    Great game overall. The first half might be my favourite game of all time, but it deeps a bit on the second half, with an ending that is good great and not so great. Overall, this game lived up to the first, which was really tough.

Not gonna lie, when I completed The Last of Us back on PS3, never thought it was gonna have a sequel, like, what would it be the point or goal to achieve for Ellie and Joel? In my opinion, they destroyed the whole script with the ending in the first game so that's why I didn't expect a new game to be released.
    Joel was given a mission which was to take care of Ellie and bring her to the Fireflies' camp so they could make a vaccine wit her blood. During their journey they go through a lot of terrible moments, losses and they struggle to survive in order to achieve the goal set for Marlene. Yes, Joel and Ellie make bonds with each other which is a crucial thing for the game. At the end, Joel's decission was the most important plot twist. He went to another direction to the one he was supposed to. He refuse to give Ellie to the fireflies because she would die, he was selfish, yeah. But nobody cared because people understood him, because I believe we all would probably do the same he did, he started seeing Ellie as his daughter and what he did was "right", Joel was a hero in our eyes.
    But, does that make him a real heroe? In a videogame, probably, because it is so easy to be in the character's shoes. In real life, I bet if we took Joel's path we would be hated and Naughty Dog knows that. Just imagine, same situation as Joel and Ellie went through but applied in this pandemic situation that we are living in (COVID-19). How would you feel knowing that there is one person that has the cure for all this and at the end they just say "no, **** but I can't do this, I can't let this person die to save the humankind, it will be hard for me, those that stand on my way to stop me will be killed." Would you feel ok with their decission knowing that the world will continue with the virus and having in mind that this could have been completely stopped?
    I know, one thing happens in a videogame and the other example is based on real life, but , that's what Naughty Dog was aiming to that in The Last of Us and The Last of Us part II, putting a real life context or sensitive situation in a videogame or at least, trying to make it more real-life like.
    With all that said, I personally feel The Last of Us part II have brutality from the beggining to the end. One person going for revenge. Revenge people could actually attempt in real life if somebody else took their loved ones' life for personal and selfishness reasons, plus, the fact that the death mentioned could have saved the whole humanity if things were different, but they ain't. It is all about that, perspectives, no one is good or bad it all depends on the eyes of the beholder. I loved it from head to toe, it always makes you question yourself about the good and evil and beyond the meaning you give to every single action took in the game, it gives you the chance to experience it in different point of views. Was basically like going in a rollercoaster of emotions where you could not predict what was gonna be the next thing to happen. You started developing feelings with a character and next thing you know they are gone. I loved those up and downs.
    I just wish they would have added more gameplay to explain what happened after Abby encountered Ellie in the theater. Probably they will bring a DLC, who knows?    … Expand

    The last of us part 2 aunque no lo parezca tiene una buena historia claro algunas partes son prácticamente relleno y también una continuación un poco sosa pero a mi opinión es una buena entrega ya que nos da a explicar que es lo que pasó y como la vida seguía después de unos cuantos años, me gusta ver a Ellie con una sed de sangre brutal por haber matado a Joel

    Un gran juego con una historia que la verdad no sentí forzada muchas de las quejas del juego no tienen sentido no es lo mismo jugarlo que escuchar de el yo estaba muy asustado de las quejas tuvieran razón y hubiera desperdiciado mi dinero pero tengo que felicitar a todo el equipo que desarrollo el juego pues es una obra maestra en mi humilde opinión

Apart from the injustice they did to a much beloved main character, and the obvious woke culture they injected into the storyline, the game is simply incredible. The graphics, the gameplay, the lighting, the details, the animation... It all pieces together beautifully. I struggled to put the controller down.     while the story of the game is divisive it is brilliant at what it does it makes you emotional and makes you think that actions have consequences especially after the ending while I do have some problems with it like the way they handled his death they should have given him a more deserving death of such a loved character and the way Abby's campaign was forced upon us even though after an hour in you find yourself feeling for her, Liv and Yara now onto the ending although it could be considered a disappointment by some to me it is the most perfect ending succeeding in what it wants to make you feel    … Expand

Neil mismo dijo que solo Ellie era "jugable", y mas de la mitad del juego, usas a un personaje totalmente despreciable y con cero remordimientos, mis ganas de jugar murieron, llegué al final , y era tan malo, que lo desinstalé.     Fantastic game! Don't understand the hate it gets. I'ts a dark, depressing story and that's great. Well written characters and a beautiful, hard world to explore. Kept me at the point of my chair until the end.

    Naughty Dog prooves to have some balls with this game! 10/10

    Certain new characters have so much plot armor that you have to question wether or not the writers were focusing on “gritty realism” as they claim they were.
    The ending is one of the least cathartic, most pretentious and nihilistic piece of gaming media I’ve seen in a while, especially considering how little sense it makes due to the actions of the main characters at that point, whoever wrote it should be fired... Oh,wait.

    Gameplay wise, it’s basically a glorified copy paste of the last game with some added upgrade options and way more linearity.

    Overall the game would be fun but the story does ruin the whole experience, which is to be expected in a story driven third person shooter.

    there are people who really have nothing, therefore, they trust this type of stories, imagine that they were devastated.

The key events not only are poorly scripted, they are unnatural and sometimes painful to watch, when they could have been handled much better. The same happens with the characters, at their core there is potential for a really deep analysis, but the dialogue and actions just make them bland, uninteresting and even unlikeable. I have no doubts that the writers had a great story to tell and a very strong statement towards the current social and political state, but as sometime happens, it failed to deliver, and the unprofessional handling of the early criticism, censoring, extorting and calling for a politicial brawl just made it worse, forcing people to take sides. Devs, there is absolutely no problem with the inclusion of LGBT+ characters and there's absolutely no problem with political views expressed in a game, you just made a bad story and poorly written characters, and if you can´t handle criticism you are not worthy of being praised.… Expand

    Played without hearing about leaks and without hearing about the negative response from some. Finished it thinking it was the most powerful experience I've ever had with a video game. Taste is subjective, and for what it's worth, I felt it was the sequel I wanted in every single way.

Жму руку разработчикам за титанический труд, если они хотели угодить ЛГБТ, как некоторые выразились, то они сделали это в меньшей возможной мере, к тому же такой химии двух влюбленных девушек я ещё нигде не видел, это было очень мило и как по мне всё было крайне убедительно, актеры дубляжа и захвата движения постарались. Геймеры, сидящие на попе ровно, с кривой осанкой и не следящие за фигурой сразу же начали возникать "а шо это баба такая накаченная ээ, она чё транс ыы" идут лесом, в постапоке я думаю лучше быть накаченным бойцом, чем клацать на джойстик, тем более её ведёт жажда мести за отца. На счёт мести Элли, она правильно сделала, что не убила Эбби, ей и так досталось (смерть отца, верных друзей, сестры Льва, рабство), если кто то после этого все равно хотел её убить, у вас не всё в порядке с головой. Ставлю 8 из 10, геймплей слишком нудный, бежать до кат-сцен и всё, лучше смотреть игрофильм. Если кто-то ожидал хеппи-энда, то вы конечно обосрались, все трейлеры были пронизаны безысходностью, насилием и несправедливостью, что нам и показали, эта игра не для умиления, а чтобы вы прочувствовали всю боль потерь и лишений, с которыми нам так или иначе предстоит столкнуться в этой жизни.… Expand

Я прочувствовала персонажей, прочувствовала усталость от бесконечной мести. Я поняла, почему Элли не довела дело до конца. Большинство игроков называют сюжет тупым и нелогичным, а знаете почему эти самые игроки нифига не поняли? Потому что эти игроки- тупые мужики (а как мы знаем, мужчины не способны в эмпатию), для мужиков главное убийства и мясо, и они негодуют что Элли не убила Эбби. Люди, чувства- сама по себе вещь не логичная. Я прочувствовала этих персонажей, я несколько раз плакала и заявляю, что сюжет хорош, его поймут только эмпаты.… Expand

    Same gameplay more or less like first game but still awesome nonetheless. BUT the story is so inconsistent, it's unbelievable : Joel and Tommy would NEVER walk into a room with a bunch of unknown people like that, Joel walking right in the middle like ?!?!?!? Defeats the purpose of the character narrative from the first game. Even if he softened up and all, he'd be soft to all familiar people (Jackson; people he knows) and even if it's a blizzard or w/e he'd still be cautious. And when Ellie goes through the door to save him, Manny doesn't let Jordan kick her more then at the end he tries to shoot her, like what ?!?!?! And Mel who's "traumatized" from torturing Joel is like "we shouldn't leave any loose ends" lol. HOW CAN A PREGNANT WOMAN CLIMB ROPES , BALANCE HERSELF ON SMALL POLES, JUMP FROM STUPID HEIGHTS, FIGHTS AND EXPLOSIONS AND CAR CRASHES,.. ?!?! And the Seraphites, Lev and Yara talkin casually as if they're not part of that cult and growing up scarred and all, whaaaat?! And whenever an enemy dies "marco, omar, jhonny, nooo" shoulda given me the option to write letters to their families too, and bury them and all too, who cares, one twice, not evvveerry encounter, I'll never be attached to them nor care ^oh look we gave different names to every npc^ and most definitely wouldn't care about Abby even if you make me play her 20 more hours, it feels so forced and so inconsistent and pathetic. So many more stuff is unfathomable. Anyways,tbh most fun I had is "killing myself as Abby OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN" especially vs Ellie, god those death animations felt so good. Very poor pacing. Game tries to disorient me and force me to try to even care about badly written characters. Story feels so lacking and disespectful to its amazing first game.Trash writing.     This game's story is far too complex to unpack in one review, but at its core this game is about learning to let go of the pain of the past. Its about learning to not just forgive others, but to forgive yourself. Many people are simplifying the narrative down to "revenge is bad," but really, what I think the game is asking is "is revenge worth it?" What do we truly gain from harming the person who harmed us? What catharsis is there in perpetuating the hate that caused you this deep rooted pain in the first place? Ellie as a character has never been driven by hate. Her arc in the first game was defined by hope, the hope that the pain and suffering we endure in life means something. The harsh reality that the sequel presents is that there is no reason for our suffering, and that life has no meaning beyond the meaning you make for yourself. In the final moments of the game, we see Ellie finally return to that empathy and hope that has always been in her heart, we see her finally let go of all the pain and anguish that Joel left her with. Abby most definitely added to that pain and anguish, but really her quest to kill Abby was intertwined with her inability to forgive Joel, her inability to escape the guilt of knowing so many died just so she could live, and not feeling worthy of such a thing.
    At this point I'm just rambling, but I urge each and every person who hates this game to give it another chance. Underneath the shock and horror of what this game puts you through is a truly beautiful story that examines the human condition in a way seldom seen in storytelling, let alone in video games. I love this game and I hope that with time, the gaming community sees the value in this story.    … Expand

Suppose you are a fan of the Witcher game (I deliberately chose a game of approximately equal cult status), and the publisher showed you a trailer with the continuation of the story of Herald and Ciri. And then the game comes out, and you instantly buy it. And ... Full **** up. This is not a TLOU. Cool graphics, a normal plot with gray morality, good gameplay, but this is some other game. I am now using the TLOU2 plot in The Witcher World. This is a spoiler ... A dumb pumped woman kills Herald from Rivia at the very beginning of the game, and you are offered to play for Ciri to avenge Herald. When Tsiri reaches the peak moment of his story, you are switched to that dumb woman who killed Herald, and they show that she is exactly the same as Herald. Look, she has the same skills, she has her own Enifer, her own Ciri, we returned the Herald to you, only now he is not a charismatic man, but a boring and not beautiful woman. Rejoice ... Why? How should we like her? That she saved the deer? Oh god ... No. I will not accept it. In general, it lasts another 10-15 hours, and when you reach the peak moment of meeting with Tsiri, you are forced to kill Tsiri with your own hands. Well ****, really? Personally, I just tried to die, but the game made me kill Ciri. This is hell, honestly. Well, the final part is just some kind of cheap Brazilian series.

This story will not appeal to everyone, but those who can understand it, discard their positive feelings for the main characters and look at them from the side, this game will shock them. And I became one of these people. Everyone should definitely try this game, and even if you are not thrilled with the plot, the graphics and gameplay are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.… Expand

    The gameplay mechanics are better, the graphics are better, the intensity is better, the animations are better, the atmosphere is better, the sound design is better, the level design is better, the a.i is better, the puzzles are better, the acting is better. The game is twice as long. The world isn't black and white, you get to see the entire game from both perspectives which given the evidence of... a lot of people can't seem to grasp that concept of. They think because a story doesn't go they're way and isn't ''happy'' it makes the whole thing terrible. Anybody can think of a story that the average tlou fan wants, that isn't a hard thing to do which would be another Joel and Ellie game much MUCH like the first, that would be so predictable and boring.. we already had that and this is the next step in evolution of Ellie's character.
    This is a game that took a massive risk! It doesn't pay off in every way ( about 2 times off the top of my head ) in terms of plot sure, but bravo for being one of the very few companies brave enough to do so! Tbh i don't think the average person is ready to take the harshness and brutality of this games universe which can at times be closer to the ugly reality than almost anything else in media. Too many people think that a sad or a story or a story that doesn't go their own way is a bad story that just is so wrong. i read comments about this game over the internet and it's pretty clear the way they describe the plot and characters that they A. haven't played it B. get the facts wrong C. It's very rare that I even become invested enough in a game to talk about it & give an opinion. I wasn't even going to do so in this case, but it seems to be what everyone else is doing, & I'm seeing a lot of deceitful & unfair criticisms from critics & trolls respectively. I just want to talk about the game & what I thought of it honestly & I'll try to be as fair as I can, but of course this is all my subjective opinion.

    I wanted to love The Last of Us Pat II, because the first game, in my opinion, is a masterpiece and is arguably one of the greatest video games ever made. It also presents an incredible story with some truly great characters. Joel and Ellie are two of my favorite fictional characters, & following their trek across a post-apocalyptic United States was an incredible experience. Because I love these characters, I was excited that we'd again be following them in Part II, this time with more of a preference on Ellie. And though that is the case for a lot of the game, I feel we also spend far too much time which characters we simply don't care about it, mainly the character of Abby. I think the actress who portrays her did a great job, but did we need to spend hours of time following her, in my view, no, especially given that after the first 2 hours of game-play, I (if I may be blunt) hated her character, given the fact that she kills Joel, way earlier than it should have happened. I hate the treatment Joel received in Part II; of course there's a bias on my part because I loved him in the first game, but I do feel like his character got dealt an unfair hand in Part II. I always figured that Joel would die, simply because it seemed like the obvious story decision that would push Ellie to become more independent (which in a way it does), but I wish we had spent more time with Joel and Ellie before his death. The counter-argument to that is "spending time with Joel & Ellie was the premise of the first game," & that's true, but Part II takes place years after that, their relationship has obviously progressed & changed over the years, & I would have liked to see where their father-daughter bond stood after all these years. If I'm being frank, I think Joel's death as it stands only serves as a way to subvert expectations, just for the sake of subversion, which is a poor way of storytelling.

    Before I continue, some small things I liked: I think the voice acting is great from everyone, the graphics are incredible, the game-play is a lot more of an improvement over the last game (which is to be expected given it's been years since that game's release), and for the most part I liked some of the new side characters, like Dinah and Jesse. I also liked Ellie and Dinah's relationship, & I think it did a good job showing Ellie's maturity.

    I mentioned earlier, but I think it was a mistake to focus so much on Abby, because I feel I'm not alone when I say I didn't care about her character and even hated her character (well, hate is strong word, but that's how I felt, especially after she killed Joel). She's a new character that we don't know, that we haven't spent any time with and have no history with, therefore of course I'm not going to care for her as much as i care for Ellie or Joel. I understand the game developers wanting to go in a different direction with Part II & want to show other people's perspectives, but the first game made it clear that it was solely focused on Joel and Ellie's perspective, & given Part II was marketed as mainly following Ellie, that's what myself & many others were expecting.

    I see a lot of faux reviews, calling out "SJW stuff," or Neil Druckmann's politics, & I really don't want to to give any of that the time of the day because I don't care about them. I don't care that Ellie is gay, in fact I think it's great. I don't care about the other perceived SJW or political stuff, even if I may disagree with it, I won't let it get in the way of me playing the game. And honestly, if you're so appalled by gay characters or even Neil Druckmann, why are playing this game? Sure, obviously you can, you have every right to play this game, but when you know this game's going to piss you off, & then you rant in a review of how pissed off you are, I don't know, I question your point in even being here.

    I do completely understand the double standard criticisms Part II is facing, especially in regards to SONY allowing a pretty graphic sex scene while in the past (& still to this day) censoring far less. I also dislike the notion that any negative criticism this game receives is the doing of bots. There are definitely trolls doing what trolls do, but there are folks with legitimate criticisms, & to ignore those criticisms does a great disservice to people who paid a lot of money for this game & were really excited about it.

    As always Naughty Dog has managed to knock it out of the park as far as visuals go, Last of Us 2 is truly a gorgeous game to look at. This game is very linnear, and tries to replace good story telling with shock value by killing the main character off after a series of uncharacteristic choices. Further, it continues to punish the remaining main character, and forces you to play as the character who caused all of the previous mentioned bad events. The ending is unsatisfying, and the antagonist gets to get away with it all without having earned any of it. This game exists just to spit on the grave of the previous as a "screw you" to the original writer. One of the main writers stand-ins in the game even spits on Joel's corpse. Go figure. Do not pick this up, the only way to stop this blatant insult to the gaming community is to stop supporting train wrecks suck as this. Not to mention the paid reviews continue to make games journalism a joke. Even now, as ik trying to get this review uploaded, they keep taking down negative reviews, and mine keeps taking a very long time to upload. Kept me glued on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing all the way to the very end. A mí me parece un gran juego, tiene ese mismo punto inicial con la muerte de alguien querido como fue Sarah en el primer juego, pero ahora Joel en el segundo, la muerte de Sarah le dio un golpe muy fuerte a Joel haciendo que la extrañase y haciendo que se encariñe con Ellie el juego hace que sientas mucho lo que le pasó a Joel y te motiva a tomar venganza, aún no lo acabo pero ya voy por la mitad, la movilidad es muy buena, el sistema de combate está 9/10 y el audio es impresionante.… Expand

    Honestly, in my opinion this game is a masterpiece. Everything from the graphics, to gamplay has been improved upon from last game. The story is beautiful. Examining the dynamics of revenge and human nature, TLUO2 wonderfully asks you to consider the things you're doing and whether or not your mission is worth it. I wish there could have been a choice to be made regarding whether or not toHonestly, in my opinion this game is a masterpiece. Most people criticize the game without substantiated arguments, for being inclusive (criticizing that Ellie is from the LGBT community in this game, when actually, since part 1 in the dlc Ellie shows her preferences and tbh I do not see anything wrong with the fact of having a wide variety of people with different characteristics, backgrounds or beliefs) or arguing that it is a bad story just because Joel does not have an epic death and is not a protagonist as in the first game (it is true that we would all have liked to have another story with Joel being a hero), but really that's the best of the game, it's a master piece with a real and raw story attached to what can happen in such a world as the one in the game, where anyone can die in any way, the game even give us other perspectives of several important events in the first game, also has an amazing quality of the graphics and scenarios, an amazing gameplay and as always take care of even the smallest detail and features, delving into the world where the game takes place, very good soundrack, in my opinion its a very good game… Expand

Here's the problem: People are upset that Joel died, he's a great character, and very lovable, and all the little touches down to the book on his bedside table make his death hurt even more. But the reality is honestly, he had it coming, he made way too many enemies to not die, and honestly when it comes down to it he made a selfish choice at the end of the first game and paid the price within the first four hours of the second. If it wasn't Abby it would be someone else sometime soon that kills him. As for the rest of the story, ya a lot of the stuff that happens sucks, but they beautifully manage to take a person who brutally murders your favorite character and make her rather human, even likable at times, it's a brilliant example of no good or bad characters, only humans, and if everyone would stop review bombing and just play the game I think the reviews would be a lot better.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
