They shove this SJW bull down your throats by making it what the non existent plot is all about, making the characters bland and bringing real life ' political correctness ' into the game. Then to top it all off, they try to get you to sympathise with the antagonist who killed off one of the best characters in modern gaming and ruin Ellie's character as well. Massive disappointment and is not worthy to be in the same series as the original game.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn’t think I was going to rate this game a 10/10 after I finished it but then I started thinking. If I could change something about this game what would I do different? Only 3 things came to my mind. 1. Less abby playtime
    2. A different ending
    3. More Joel

    I felt like playing as abby was becoming some sort of chore. “I have to do this in order to get to Ellie again” kinda thing. But this part also had a good side and for me that was Lev. I love to see representation and we got to know more about the seraphites which was something I was genuinely curious about.

    Then ending doesn’t sit right. If I was to choose I would rather it end at the barn with Dina and Ellie being happy together. The trip to california to get abby was kinda extra. Nothing was even accomplished just more deaths, Ellie losing 2 fingers and an upset Dina. Joel meant a lot to me. Especially as someone who considered him a father figure. The way he died didn’t so him justice.

    Now also mentions of things that could’ve made the game a lot lighter at times such as Ellie talking about riley at the arcade. But when I look at the overall picture thinking about the entire game I can’t help but love it. It might not actually be a 10/10 but it’s as close as something can get    … Expand

    Incredible game. I don’t know why people are review bombing this game, I’ve read a bunch of these low score reviews and you people obviously haven’t played the game. The game is incredible. Obviously nothing will be better than the first but this game is an amazing revenge story. The combat has also been greatly improved and the maps now add more verticality which helps the game feel moreIncredible game. To the idiots trying to review bomb, don’t review a game you haven’t played. No watching out of context cutscenes is not the same as playing the game.… Expand

What can I say is just perfect. You can't compare something brand new with old one so much as haters there. If you’re a normal, well adjusted person, you’ll have a great time with this game. The gameplay, sound design, voice performances, and graphics are all fantastic.     Just don’t enter the hype train of rating this game low because it is not the same as the first one. People can’t go in with an open heart to listen to a story that may be different from what it is expected from a sequel. It is an absolutely fantastic game.     Absolutely beautiful, perfect game. Finished it a few days ago and still thinking about it. Better than the first one in many ways.
    FYI if you don't like something, don't waste your time hating it, it's kind of pathetic. Sell the game and move on.

    This is just a disaster. I've waited for 7 years and sadly found that my favorite character was killed in the very early stage in part 2. You've built a great game 7 years ago. And now you totally destroyed it.

If it’s because of the event at the start than I ask them to go back to the first game and see how shallow it really was.     The 7 year wait was well worth it for me. The story is heart wrenching and does a brilliant job of quite literally showing two sides of the story. It also shed light on our own biases, as fans of the first game probably found themselves rooting for Ellie even though she isn't necessarily the good guy in this tale (there probably wasn't one. Maybe Lev.)

    The graphics and worlds are so gorgeous and immersive, and the game mechanics are sufficient albeit maybe a little aged.

    I am so frustrated at the 0 scores on here. There is no conceivable way that this game deserves those user reviews, even if people didn't find the story enjoyable - the world and graphics are enough to warrant a couple points.    … Expand

    Gameplay:
    Same as the first, barely any noticeable improvements.

    Visuals:
    Looks good, but so do most modern Tripple A titles.

    Sound:
    Soundtrack could be powerful and emotional, but the story is so hollow and vapid that nothing hits.

    Characters:
    Utter garbanzo beans. Ellie has become a spiteful, cynical brat who becomes boring as hell when she isn't cursing her mouth off. She has no chemistry with any follower, not even her supposed love interest Dina. The flashback to the Museum with Joel was especially insulting, as we are explicitly reminded of how great their (Joel and Ellie) chemistry was. Abby is a disgusting homunculus of a woman, just as angry and vengeful as Ellie, except without a prior game of experience and character building to justify ever supporting her.

    Story:
    Trash. Stereotypical revenge plot that hinges entirely on the coincidence of Joel telling some stranger his name. In such a dog-eat-dog world, AND ESPECIALLY considering his actions in the last game, Joel should have a damn lock on his lips. But no, he just blurts it out to a team of strangers. Abby's portion of the game is honestly irrelevant, not even having her own game would justify her caving Joel's skull in and curb-stomping Ellie. Abby's section is simply there to pad out the game length.

    Oh yeah and there were zombies I think.

    Summary:
    Its very clear this game was made to destroy the legacy of the last game. Killing Joel so unceremoniously, absolutely ZERO insight into the infection, lack of good character dynamics and chemistry. This game is devoid of everything we liked about the first game. Granted, the game likely traded hands over the years, followed by Cukman's shameless simping for Anita Sarkisikunt, I honestly don't think this game could've come out any other way.    … Expand

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
