    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay. I had to take some time, to think about why I am so mad at this game and i wanted to write a review, as well, as i LOVED the first game. So let's talk about all the important (in my eyes) points:

    1. To much plot convinience and plot armor: Ppl show up at the perfect time to safe characters. Like Joel saving Abby, Dina Elli (multiple times), Lev Abby and so on and so on.

    2. Pacing: The pacing was **** We got 6 storys in one, basically. 2 Backstories, 2 Flashbackstories & Prologue and Epilog.

    3. Hypocrisy: LGBTQ Characters were implemented, which is totally fine, but they didn't get the meaning behind it. Perfect Example is when Lev gets called Lilly and then asks Abby if she wanted to ask questions, only to say that she/he would rather not talk about it. Like wtf. It's a major point for Lev and why their story arc is even happening. But no one really ever talks about why their sexuality is a cruicial point. Same goes for showing Sex between Owen and Abby, but cutting out Dinas and Ellies. Showing Heterosex but not Sex between two young women? Hipocrisy at its best.

    4. The destruction of Characters.

    a) Young Ellie was brave, witty and overall just super lovable. Grown up Elli got shredded to angry and lesbian. Again, i don't hate on her sexuality, we've been confronted with homosexuality in the first Part - Bill. I hate the fact that this is literally her only character trait in this game. But we covered that in 3.

    b) Joel & Tommy. Joel was fierce, caring only for a few and very cautious. He dropped a neighborhood family a few hours into the pandemy and now randomly safes a young women from a horde of infected? To walk to their hideout, where armed ppl where with military vehicles and tells them his name straight up? And Tommy even INVITING those strangers to stack up at their village? No. Tommy is even worse, as he lives to get his character completely shredded. He went through 3 stages of Revenge: First, refusing it, Second, going alone to get it and third, almost FORCING ellie to go hunt Abby AGAIN, because he no longer can? Heck no.

    5. Lying and manipulating.

    a) Lying: Naughty Dog straight up lied to us multiple times. Like we wouldn't have to kill a dog, yet animal brutality was shown multiple times (Ellies Horse, Quicktime event where you can't even decide AGAINST killing abbys Dog, etc.) + the Trailer of 2019, where they edited Joels Model to trick us into thinking they'd go on a journey together. You can't tell me, in a 3 year production of the game, that half a year of release they completely changed the story (which would have been needed, cause the point joel showed up was far into the actual game). Just disgusting and one of the reasons that i and probably many others bought the game.

    b) Manipulation: Showing how animal loving Abby is in multiple occasions is just the cheapest trick, to get sympathy from the viewers/gamers and overall trying hard to display her as a "good" character through saving kids. Abby is displayed as a WLF Soldier and those kill the Scars. She never gave a second thought about killing ppl (Like killing joel, who just safed her live, shooting Jesse, Killing pregnant Dina, etc) but she does not kill those kids, cause... plot?
    Also: Telling a double Revenge story, to finally say "Revenge is bad" is like raping a Person to say "Rape is bad"

    6. Gameplay. Hasn't really changed from Part 1. Which WOULD be fine, if it was still a well told Story (what made Part 1 better, together with its much faster pacing). In this game we are confronted with hordes of enemies to stretch a game already too long even more. Gets repeatitive super fast.

    7. Soundtrack and Visuals: Those are on point, can't argue there. But eyecandy is not going to make up for the story and it's characters.

    Conclusion: The last of us 2 has basically a similar problem for me as Metal Gear solid Phantom Pain: It's a good game (or great game in MGSPPs Case), but a really ****ty Last of Us.    … Expand

Thank you Neil Druckman for making things clear and pushing your own agenda for the higher purpose of the franchise after all this disaffected player couldn't understand the meaning of Part 1. Only a literally genius like you could save such a lame story with character changes influenced by your opionon, regarding the feelings of every minority in such good manners.
    Lmao when i read opionions about some gamer dumbasses complaining about part 1. Looses and how to get over it and bla bla. Do they think to own a nobel prize in literature ?!?!
    Neil, my man knows what it's all about. It's simple. Play golf with the face of a old men and a good old in and out game. So glad this **** get slaughtered from a strong independet women. Because **** the patriarchy. She likes animals and helped two kids of a minority. That's the only right thing to do, not like this psycho freak crawling around and seeming to be controlled by some force which let kill her innocent people. It's only Abbies right to kill because she do it for wlf. They have reasons.
    Her crew was so adorable and it makes me sad we couldn't met for some burritos and do some smalltalk, because that's quality time.
    In the end the psycho kid looses it's fingers and isn't capable to roll some faties. I guess, you get what you ****ing deserve gollum. I wish Abbie a nice boat trip. She earns it that much after she was near death dying for the sins of degenerated gamers, who don't understand the concept of newtons law. Believe it ****s. Violence is bad. It's Violence=Violence. Now you can call you woken. The next time i'll see you killing some AI i'll call your parents so they take away your ps4 and you are forced to play outside in a sandbox.

    This game is very disturbing. I don't know how anyone can play this and not feel uncomfortable. I think the story is horrendous but the visuals and sound are pretty amazing so I'll give it that.

    I have given 1 rating and that's being generous. The story is just dumb and doesn't make much sense after TLOU1's amazing story. The graphics and animations are good but not Excellent or Defiying. Overall if the story wasn't so stretched it could have been better. Most likely this game needed a much better narrative.

    As a fan of the orginal the last of us, i can say that this game is a letdown to the point of depression every minute i spent playing part 2 was like a slap in my face... nothing more or less -.- bad game.

    To call it a game is to underestimate the whole endeavor - this is an experience, a piece of art and an emotional rollercoaster that left me heartbroken for days after the ending (and thats a good thing).
    Druckman had a vision and he wanted to share it without compromises and hesitation and I'm so glad Sony let him do it. He wanted to show how a dark world helped to create a dark side in characters. it wasn't supposed to be a happy story for Joel and Ellie. It wasn't supposed to be a streamlined continuation of the first game. It was supposed to be real and messy. And it was. Very real and very, very messy.
    This ride is so much more than a typical revenge story. Not many revenge tales succeed in diving deep inside the protagonist psyche and show how awful the loss of control and judgement can be.

    The addition of Abby. I didn't like it. At first. I'm glad they did it. Second only to the realness of Ellie's descent toward madness, a glimpse on the life on motivation of the "antagonist" (just another person trying to survive in crazy world) made the whole thing even harder to accept and process.

    This is not a game for people looking for a wholesome, happy story of people living together and overcoming hardness. This is not a game for people who can not accept that bad sh*t can and sometimes will happen (in life and on screen). This is a game for people who want to dive inside a dark and gritty vision of a master storyteller. For people who understand that art can't be artistic without flaws and good plot can't and won't appeal to everyone.

    A true masterpiece.

    *gameplay is awesome, soundtrack is magical and immersive, side characters are believable (if not very interesting), the attention to details is insane, atmosphere is haunting at all times and the ending...

    The only problem is writing in some sections of the game.
    Some of the game parts are utter **** while most of the parts are amazing.
    Graphics are amazing for a PS4 game, and i'd like to see what enhancements they will do for the PS5's backwards compatibility (RayTracing?).
    I know this was a quick review, but i must say.

    I love every part of this game. The story and certain scenes have even transcended some award-winning movies I have ever watched. I couldn't believe there are so many brainless grudging folks simply slash a zero score mainly because the game made many brave yet groundbreaking attempts in its content. Thank you Naughty Dog, you are the best dream maker in the entertainment industry!

    Terrific! After 7 years of hard work Naughty Dog has represented an evolutionary game outstanding in every aspect. The bar has been elevated I don’t think I will like any other games after playing TLOU2 except for its sequel. Hopefully, we will have the luck to have part 3.

When I was forced to play as Abby I audibly said whilst alone in my room at about 4 AM, “I’m going to kill myself”. There are some of the best sequences of gameplay when the player is forced to play as Abby, yet I was pretty disinterested for most of the time. I spent essentially the whole time when forced to be Abby wanting to just be Ellie again. I don’t really love or hate the ending, but I honestly think the ending would have been more satisfying if Ellie either did not go out to find Abby again, or have her actually kill Abby.… Expand

Well worth the wait from the previous game, though leaves you numb at the end of the game. And the thought of playing it in permadeath mode gives me fear. Game play is like the first game but takes advances of the PS4/Pro. Enemie AI has improved and little details like the sound of glass breaking when you walk through it when it's on the floor, adds to the immersion. Yes it's understanding how the game is divisive because what happens at the start, but it very much continues and builds on the first game.… Expand

    “Bold story telling,” and great character perspectives. One of the best games I’ve ever played. I feel the user scores are down because a lot of people didn’t like the ending and some of the decisions made by the main character. Furthermore, there is a love story some may disagree with, but get over it...This game is a good one and worth the adventure.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do I begin with this game. This has to be the most disappointing and frustrating game i've ever played. I remember watching Pewds play the 1st one because I couldn't afford a ps3 back in the day.
    I experienced the game for myself a month before last of us 2 came out and it became my third favorite game of all time. Experiencing the characters and they're development, the music, the gameplay and more for myself really got me hyped for the sequel. Then i played last of us 2, what a trainwreck. Ellie is a mindless killer who doesn't care about anyone but herself. She treats Joel like **** the whole game and Joel gets killed just for shock value. Then we have to play as her killer for half the goddamn game when I WANTED nothing more than to see her DIE. Little to no innovation in the game, A.i are retarded for the most part until they see you and your a.i companions are garbage. They're 10 times worse than in the first one. Then during the flashback when joel tells ellie what really happened he doesn't explain himself well AT ALL. They make Joel look like the bad guy through the whole game and make him and Tommy retarded, leading to Joel's death. Then the ending was the worst thing i've ever seen after all the people ellie killed, after killing joel her father figure what does she do to the one person who did 99% of the killing. SHE LETS HER GO, LIKE WHAT!?!? Ellie is left broken and she cant play guitar anymore, Tommy is crippled and divorced, and Joel is dead making Sarah's death meaningless. And the one who killed the main character of the first game gets EVERYTHING SHE WANTS revenge and a friend to continue to survive with. But revenge is bad for ellie but good for abby. what a ****ty story. Please don't waste your money on this piece of **** The graphics, the flashbacks with joel and ellie, and the music literally save this game from being a 0!!!! The worst ps exclusive of the generation and easily the most disappointing. i don't want to make this longer than it already is but these were the main points i wanted to hit.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've decided to play the game well after its release, far away from the early reviews. As many others, I've unfortunately seen the leaks and I wanted to give the game a try anyway. Just to clarify, I am a huge fan of Last of Us, I'm a veteran gamer and I was overwhelmed by how much emotion I had to deal with while playing it.

    Let's start with the pros: it's truly magnificent, period. Incredible lighting, attention to details, facial expressions, weapon upgrade animations, level design, well anything Naughty Dog is famous for. The numerous accessibility features must not be overlooked: for a lot of people, this is life-changing. I also like some touching aspects, like Ellie and Dina interacting with the baby, you don't see that very often in a game and it's the positive aspect of Naughty Dog wanting to be more 'inclusive'.

    Now, the cons: everything that made Last of Us unforgettable, namely Joel-Ellie relation, character development and charisma, general pacing, the 'hope-and-beauty-vs-danger-violence' duality are completely absent. Joel's death is very poorly executed (no pun intended) and false advertising by Naughty Dog is simply unacceptable. Side characters are uninteresting, you really don't care for their demise/death, be Abby's or Ellie's side. Remember Tess who dies after 2 hours? Of course you do, it hit hard. Remember Bill? Of course, so well written. Remember Sam and Henry? Of course you do.

    Now, Abby. You simply cannot like her, despite the pathetic multiple attempts (the dog scene, fear of height, hospital flashback, etc.). She will go down in History for the worst sex scene EVER, that's a feat, I'll concede it. Lev, Yara who cares? Nobody. Manny? Shot in the head and everybody screams YEAH. The only time I felt something aching was Owen and Mel's death scene.

    Ellie...well, her rage-filled slaughter fest is un-Ellie, especially when she kills someone for nothing (Rattler). The only interesting character is Tommy, thank God.

    To wrap this review up, it seems, judging by what we know about Druckmann, that killing the father figure, straight White male was not story-driven...let's feature a very muscular woman, a trans kid AND a lesbian couple raising a child as leads instead! I've nothing against LGBT, really, but it's simply too much to be credible. Nobody asks for a macho White dude killing everyone at will. A little balance would have been a little bit more enjoyable.

    It's a huge disappointment, but the game itself is still a good game and doesn't deserve neither a 0, nor a 10.    … Expand

The end of the story doesn't fill right, everything you did to avenge Joels death was for nothing meanwhile on the other hand Abby did avenge her fathers death, so in the end Ellie lost everything for nothing, she should have at least avenged Joel.… Expand

    A very disappointing story, Other than that the game is 10/10 in everything else. LITERALLY! Character representation was done poorly, felt like i was forced to like that guy and this girl and not to like that guy or this girl. In the end... could have been better than the first game if the story was good.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start off by saying that I, like many here was a huge fan of the first game. I have been looking forward to this game for years and avoided any spoilers that came out. With that said, The Last of Us Part 2 is a beautiful looking game, the graphics, environments, and fight sections are extremely well done. The Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel were great, especially the museum sequence. The voice acting is also great for the most part. HOWEVER, this games biggest downfall is it’s pacing, the story absolutely fails to make you sympathize with Abby after she murders Joel. Which in its own right doesn’t even make much sense with how it happens, but I digress. The fact that the game constantly pulls you out of climax moments for flashbacks just completely takes away from the pacing of the story. By the time I played Abbys half of the story and was seeing her flashbacks with the WLF and Owen and Mel, I found myself really disconnected because I had already killed them as Ellie several hours before. It would have made more sense to me to play as Abby first, or at least play as Ellie for a day and then Abby. I completely understand why Abby killed Joel, was it justified? In this world I’d say yeah probably, Joel killed plenty of people for less, however if you’re going to do that and then make me play as his killer you’ve got to set it up in a better way than was shown here. The supporting characters were all fine, none of them really seemed to be given much time to shine though, I did really like Jesse and Dina and even Owen, but again, really hard to connect with him when I knew he was already dead. Lev and Yara were also fine, but not given a ton to do, you go on a fetch quest to save Yara that took an hour only for her to die almost immediately after so that was fun. I also think the ending was way too drawn out, I’m not even upset Ellie didn’t kill Abby in the end, although I think it probably would’ve made more sense. But introducing a whole new faction at the end of the game and fighting through hordes of them just to save Abby to fight her, when for all Ellie knows she’s already dead just didn’t make much sense to me. Anyway in conclusion, I don’t think this is the worst game ever made, not at all, this game does some things so right, but the pacing of the story make it such a slog to play at times. In the end I probably won’t replay this one, but if you catch a good sale it’s worth checking out at least for the gameplay.… Expand

Вторую часть игры играть вовсе не хочется, персонажи не раскрываются персонажам абсолютно не сопереживаешь. Не раскрыта история противостояния псов и шрамов, почему они противостоят, что у шрамов за женщина идол. Я ждал игру по полюбившимся мне персонажам из первой части. Я принял смерть Джоэла но не так глупо и бездарно, а потом пихать его в шлешбэки так себе занятие. Я как и большинство геймеров принял бы игру если бы история Эбби была рассказана в начале что бы мы могли ей проникнуться и понять ее желание отомстить. Да и смерть Джоэла можно было бы обыграть поинтереснее и где нибудь в середине игры. А так оценка 2 за сильнейшее разочарование. Поду перепройду первую часть и успокоюсь.… Expand

Similarly, the pacing was a little clumsy with the game falling off a cliff at the mid-way point.

    Also - the decision to have a heavily pregnant woman travel out into hostile territory on patrol and have her climbing about and fighting etc. was... well just plain weird. I'm all for body positivity - but that was completely insane.

    I don't have a problem with any of the characters themselves and disagree with most of the negative reviews. But some of the writing is definitely just plain bad.

    Very much hope TLOU3 can be a thing. It's a great world that deserves more storytelling.    … Expand

    Awesome gameplay with terrible decision making. Druckman lied to us all and I cant come to terms with it. U never kill you know who, it makes no sense. Gameplay is a 10 but after that death it feels worthless to play. Make a 3rd game with ellie and Joel I dont know how you can do it but just do it Last of us is about joel and ellie.

    The story; the special thing about the last of us, is bad and it has a lot of twists that have no explanation that feel forced in the story. There is no character development, and somehow they just change in a matter of second to make weird decisions without any background on how they came up with that decision.

However, saying it is a political statement and it did not match the trail is stupid. Obviously they aren't going to tell you Joel dies that's makes no sense, but if you couldn't figure that out for yourself then i worry for you. But like i said, it's just an opinion, everyone has one. If we all just calmed down and stop taking everything seriously that would be fantastic. And that goes for everything.

    That being said, I really enjoyed and it is a shame how much hate it got but at the end of the day it doesn't really mater. The game play was fun and that's really the only thing that matters, because if there is no game play then it's a movie.     The first playtrough the story was kinda boring but everything else was good

    Second playtrough I put on a bunca cheats and skipped the storyline and the game was super fun!

    This game is not as great as the first one (in story) but its a beautiful game, they improve many things: gameplay, enemies, graphics (the best ones) and a way bigger map. This one is harder! And there is a lot of different types of enemies that you have to defeat each one in different ways

    It's a pretty good game , it does have some mistakes on the script , but it is still so good.
    It makes you cry , makes you feel angry , and then you don't know how to feel when you are in the middle of the campaign because now you know things that you didn't at the beginning of it.

    The main characters were JOEL and ELLIE. The way in which Joel was killed so fast and without mercy, I think the character deserved at least a better ending.

    The fact that they introduced a new main character and that you have to play with her more the 50% of the game is a little bit disgusting
    I understand that this game was dark and based in anger, even though that, I think that fans wanted a better story with the MAIN characters. All that gay stuff and in the case of Lev is irrelevant for me actually. I only wanted a better story and develpment for Joel an Ellie.    … Expand

Me parecia muy similar al del primer juego y con demasiadas partes de walking simulator que me parecia identico a las partes aburridas de uncharted 4. Pero despues de haber terminado el juego,, me doy cuenta que esas escenas de walking simullator, de tirarle el juguetito al perro para que lo vaya a buscar 5 veces, son recontra necesarias. Hacen que uno termine arrepintiendose de haber matado a esos personajes 3 hs antes porq te das cuenta que ellos no tenian nada que ver. El gameplay evoluciona y supera claramente al del primer juego, aunq las mecanicas no son las mas novedosas, la ejecucion y el tono ultraviolento complementan de maravilla a esta historia de venganza.
    Ahora paso a la parte fuerte del juego, la historia. Simplemente la mejor historia de venganza que vi en mi vida. las decisiones de todos los personajes estan completamente justificadas en todo momento. Estoy seguro que yo haria todo lo que hizo ellie o abbie o cualquier otro personaje en su lugar. Cuando ellie abandona a dina para ir a buscar a abbie a santa barbara no tenia otra opcion. Ellie va a buscar a abbie para poder dormir. No tenia otra opcion. En ese punto ella ya sabia que matar a abbie no le iba a devolver la vida a joel, pero no iba a poder vivir consigo misma si no terminaba este asunto. Aun cuando le perdona la vida en el final, se re entiende. Despues de ver todo el sufrimiento, el mal estado fisico, el amor por Lev, ve que mas muerte no cambia nada, pero necesitaba pelear con ella para darle un fin a su obsecion. Al final, la venganza le quito todo a ellie, le quito a su pareja, a sus amigos y hasta su capacidad de tocar guitarra (que era su ultima coneccion con el difunto joel). Verdaderamente es un 10 este juego, aunq por momentos desespera, todo es necesario y te hace sentir cosas que otros juegos nunca pudieron.
    Junto con death strandig, uno de los mejores juegos de PS4 y de la historia de play station.    … Expand

    What about the narratives aspects of it? Mesmerizing, yet imperfect. Thankfully, the weak story of one of the protagonists and its excess of (not so useful) flashbacks is fastly omitted by a great character study of these two beings and their arcs that resonates in a laudable theme. The choices that the developers went through the game are bold, but creates an emotional roller coaster to the player improving his/her experience.
    Conclusion? It's indeed a must play to all PlayStation user, the unification of an emotional plot and an active and incredible gameplay creates a truly wonderful game made with blood, sweat and tears from the developers and actors. Enjoy it.    … Expand

It's about US, about YOU - it uncovers a great deal about how you handle those situations and emotions it depicts. I think this is why some people hated it so badly, because this game made them FEEL strongly, and they couldn't work through their feelings (yet).
    The reason I feel the opposite, strongly positive way about it, is because of the success of being able to work through it, and gain a deeper understanding not just about the characters, but about myself (and others around me) too. I actually feel, that this game made me a better person, even if just a notch or two, and I'm glad about that!

    Emotional work is rewarding, and those who are willing to put in the time and attention will surely get something out of it. It is dark, brutal, and so very lifelike and brave. I'm holding it an etalon of storytelling in (this genre of) videogames.    … Expand

    After finishing this game yesterday. I have very split feelings towards this game. Personally I was expecting more parts about Joel , Ellie even Dina. Abby’s story is forced and pretentious. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the gameplay and the environment design. My heart is broken with the ending. As I played guitar for many years I could imagine and feel the pain of losing the fingers ( I hate this plot) , and I also hate how they picture everyone in this game so pathetic. In the TLOU 1, as least there were some hopes and brightness. TLOU 2 is pure dark and sadness. I couldn’t sleep well after this game. Ellie’s ptsd trauma haunts me as well :(

    As a movie , the cutscenes , the flashbacks (especially Joel’s part) moved me quite a lot. I appreciate the emotional thrill brought by this game. Never had any game given me this feeling. As a game , there are moments make me don’t wanna play, I suffer more than I enjoy. Not sure if it’s a good game supposed to be. If you wanna stay mentally healthy and positive. probably this is not the cup of tea.    … Expand

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
