Likeable charakters are killed off one by one, then get replaced by new ones which are pretty much all horribly written and have no background story. It's the worst revenge-plot out of any game I've ever seen.

I'm not even kidding here. It's so unworthy as a follow-up to the original game. Waiting 7 years and preordering I'm so disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was one of those for fortunate to be able to rent this given all the bad previews it was getting, but I still wanted to see for myself. First, the graphics, music, and sound effects are top notch. The gameplay is similar o the 1st game, but has quite a few boring "fetch" quest with a lot of backtracking. This always upsets me because it is a generic way of the developer trying to extend the length of the game artificially. Although, all that positive is completely overshadowed by the unbelievable awful story. They totally missed the mark from what made the first game great. Not only do they kill off the character we came to care for and love, but force us to accept an obvious social justice type story and protagonist by forcing us to play as this character later on in the game. I have not been this disappointed in a game since Mass Effect Andromedia, and its for the same reason. Andromedia's story focused around pushing a social justice agenda on the player instead of letting the player make those choices themselves. Last of Us Part 2 does the same thing. The player is completely forced to accept a social agenda focused around LGBTQ acceptance and support. Than, the game goes out of its way to push it in your face at every turn with virtually every interaction you have. I believe people should be allowed to make their own view and opinion of social issues, and think it is just sickening that developers and producers of video games these days feel that the player is either gonna be someone who already supports their political/social agenda, or they HAVE to accept it in order to play the game. I won't be buying Last of Us 2 because I can't encourage this type of game development where political and social agenda's are the basis for just trying to force a view on the player whether they agree or not. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Could've been the best Game ever, but instead the devs decided to make a **** It's MY personal opinion, if you disagree, feel free to it.

    First the Pros:
    - Amazing graphics & audio, great atmosphere and solid gameplay. Details are incredible and I like the small gimmicks they build into the world.
    Alright, that's it.

    Cons:
    - Handling of the Main characters. Killing one of my beloved two chars off, right at the beginning, when I couldn't wait to play with Ellie and Joel again who had the best synergie in every game imo, is a massive middlefinger right into my face and false advertising in the trailers.
    - A revenge plot that makes absolute no sense in the end. All characters are replacable and have absolute nothing to contribute to the story.
    - Speaking about revenge - the ending was just horrible. I'm massacring hundreds of people and dogs just to let the killer of Joel go in the end. Why? To feel something? Again, I'm forced to have sympathy for a Character I absolutely do not care about.
    - But hol' up: I'm forced to play Abby who killed my favorite Char Joel and "I have to feel for her" - it's forced and I don't like it.. I don't care about her or her intentions. If I invest 15h of my life and play Ellie and Joel and waited 7 years to play 15h as Ellie again, who has bloodlust, kills everything that stands in her way for another good 15h (That's 30h in total maybe more)... and FINALLY I get to the point where Abby stands right in front of Ellie (Abby killed another one of Ellies long friends in that scene and then tries to do the same with the brother of Joel and shoots him in the head) WHAT HAPPENS? I PLAY AS ABBY FROM NOW ON and even HAVE TO PLAY AGAINST ELLIE, the CHARACTER I CARE ABOUT. Man. It's just terrible and frustrating.

I do understand what Naughty Dog tried but they failed miserably. This game is an absolute **** and doesn't deserve to be Game of the Year. It's the controversy of the year, but definitely not anything more than that. And now speaking about it, originally I wanted to give a 4/10, but actually it's just a 3/10.

Sadly, the writing - though it has its moments - is just not good enough for a story driven game. Some plot points are flat out bad. It’s always a problem when writers force their real life politics and ideologies in their games (regardless if it makes sense or adds to the story), just trying to educate the player how to think properly. TLOU2 is doing exactly that. It’s The Last Jedi and GOT S8 all over again. Since the story and the characters are the main selling point for this game, their quality will make up most of my rating score and as a fan of the original I couldn’t avoid the feeling that Part II isn’t just not written for me - i.e. fans of the original - but intentionally to piss me of; just as if the writers didn’t like the original and wanted to kill its legacy on purpose. I just feel cheated.
The Gameplay is quite repetitive and doesn’t really come up with anything new in respect of the first part (Which isn’t really necessary to be fair)
Overall it’s a beautiful looking disappointment of a game that had the potential for true greatness.

I always love Last Of Us for the story and the graphic I even played the game twice, so today is the day that I've been waiting for 7 years and try not looking for other spoilers before playing the game. So without further ado, I will start with the graphic it's really marvelous really makes your breath away and for the gameplay, It's more amazing so many motions that could be done compared the previous one but after playing 2 hours my heart starts to break it's really hard for me to continue the game but somehow I'm hoping there is some twist in the game along the way but the story keeps looping on revenge and what makes it worse I have to use the other character that comes out of nowhere and do some nonsense thing. The story is getting worse when reaching the ending, I can't even reach the message that the writer trying to say. So for me, It will be 2/10 still appreciate the people behind the game except for writer and director. Maybe I'm expecting too much for Naughty Dog or is this game not good as I thought. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was not the story I was expecting or necessarily wanted, but one I love. The start of the "second act" was at first a bit jarring. I didn't like what was happening, but after several hours of playing as Abby I started sympathize with her and her friends (especially Owen). The amount of hate this game is getting is probably because of how they killed of Joel. But the cycle of revenge which the is the games theme is showed expertly in this experience and Joel's death was completely justified. You just have to believe that Neil Druckmann and the team had an idea and that it will pay of. You don't have to like everything that's happening in the story too find realize it's a good story that delivers it's points.

Gameplay and graphics is also excellent and really fun.

Naughty Dog has taken a big risk this time around, guiding you on a journey of grief, rage, and consequence from multiple perspectives. While many may not like NDs decision to pull the old MGS2 switcharoo, it is important to remember the themes of this title. I think I great deal of whether or not you will enjoy this game rests upon how willing you are to empathize with both Ellie and Abby.

In the days since finishing this game I haven't been able to come up with any other games I can compare the story of TLOU2 to, certainly none whose story has stuck and resonated with me quite like this one. It is extremely disappointing to see the vitriolic brigading leveled against this game, and I sincerely hope this doesn't deter Naughty Dog from taking risks like this in the future.

So please ignore the avalanche of negativity from these user reviews, poorly written this game is not.

Everyone can die in TLoU universe because they are not superhuman. Joel and Tommy made a mistake and that costed Joels life. Its hard, and it made me cry, but happens.

Most people say that they would preffer just another TLoU with Joel and Ellie being happy. Thats not TLoU and it never was. If you want that, write fanfic. They told the story they wanted to tell and its a sad and depressing story, but that doesnt make it worse.

Platinum #31 The Last of Us Part 2

With the release of the Last of Us Part 2, Naughtydog's willingness to take risk has been admirable. The game starts strong, displaying the beautiful relationship that Ellie and Joel shares and soon takes a turn as Ellie's quest for vengeance starts. The game builds itself on the shock factor and showcasing there is no good or evil, just 2 sides of a coin. Speaking of the graphics, it's astounding to see how a 7 year old console can still run such fine graphics with a stable smooth framerate. Naughtydog's, The last of Us Part 2 can be easily categorized as a technical marvel and one of the best looking games of this generation. From the movement of the grass as wind blows to the splashing of water waves, this game does it all. The sound design can easily make one feel they are part of the world. The Last of Us Part 2 is a game that should be enjoyed with a proper headset. Danger lurks around every corner and even if you anticipate a jump scare, the game will make sure to startle you. The Story which the game provides can be some what polarizing and it's ending can make anyone feel dissatisfied. It gives a possibility that there may be a third game in the series. Unlike the first game, Part 2 excessively calls out for a sequel. Whereas Part 1 was a beautifully crafted and self contained game. But what The Last of Us Part 2 lacks in Story, it covers it up in gameplay. Hand to hand melee combat is refreshing and with the addition of dogs there is a much needed change in stealth gameplay. Gone are the days where you could easily hide in tall grass with the enemy standing next to you. The game shines in higher difficulty where the AI is much more responsive and you will have to think twice before taking a path to your next destination. Overall I would rate the game a 8/10. The game is no where close to perfect but still everyone should give it a shot if they are into linear story driven games.

Enfim, o jogo é triste e bem reflexivo. O mecanismo, gráfico, cenário, estão incríveis.

My disappointment is immense, I immersed myself impressively in the story since I discovered it in 2015, I am very glad that they have considered doing a sequel, only I feel that this was not the right way

I do not want to support the game not only because of its divided history (divided because it divides the fandom between the part of the '' righteous '' who are the fans who think that this story is well done and there is nothing wrong; the other part would be the people who see the bad of the game and make their voices known on the subject)

I don't want to support the game because of the actions of director Neil Druckmann and The Naughty Dog; blocking opinions on Twitter along the way for those who wanted and needed to know what the game was going to be (I understand that they did it for sales and avoid disenchanting their faithful fans, but if you are a company with '' so many trophies insured in your pocket '' As Joel's voice actor Troy Backer says, you could let your fans say what they want without expecting it to turn against you since this should be your '' masterpiece '' and show your confidence in him, not doing what you did and showing that the game would be that divisive) and giving the community their RIGHT to express themselves, not take it away, and not only on Twitter, on YouTube with Bloggers and Youtubers who gave their sincere opinion, which if they resulted in a true reality of the game (which is not the best nor is it as good as many fans of the series make it seem) it would result in a block, a deletion of your video and stop giving you publicity

If you read my criticism and understood my points, I am grateful if you could understand it, but, I understand that you want not to contribute in my opinion, the view of the subject of each person is subjective and mine is clear and simple in something that I do not like and I put it bluntly, the sex scene, the antagonists, the direction of the story and the ending are disappointing for players like me who have waited over 5 years for this game that resulted in something unwanted from the sequel

    Gameplay:6/10
    Characters:5/10

Nic tak dobrze nie streszcza fabuły nowego The Last of Us, jak to jedno zdanie z epilogu.
O stracie i radzeniu sobie z nią, o niesprawiedliwości, przemocy, i uprzedzeniach, o ślepocie nienawiści i bezcelowości zemsty oraz o spokoju jaki daje wybaczenie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. INTRODUCTION:
The Last of Us was probably one of, if not the best game of all time (in my opinion), so naturally I was insanely hyped for this game, probably the most excited I've ever been for anything in my life, even more than Endgame. I also made sure to avoid all spoilers and leaks as I wanted to go in relatively blind, apart from watching a few trailers. I pre-ordered the game as soon as I could, first game I ever pre-ordered in my entire life, so the second the game arrived in the mail, I immediately dropped everything and cancelled all my plans for the next few days to play it. I began installing it and jumped right in as soon as it finished installing. 4 days and 22 hours later, there I was, sitting on my couch processing what the hell I had just played. After a day of letting it marinate in my brain, I have come to the conclusion that this is one of the most incredible and emotionally brutal games I have ever played. Let me break that down.

    STORY:
This is one if the best story games I have ever played. I love everything about the story and would change none of it. I think it stacks up perfectly to the first game and gives itself a reason to exist. It continues the game beautifully and smoothly, into a harsher, and more threatening world. It develops the complexity of its characters with writing and situations that is probably some of the best writing I have ever seen in a videogame. I have no complaints at all about the story.

    CHARACTERS:
Now, I know this is a touchy subject so I'll do my best to not piss anyone off, but I think the choice to make Abby a parrallel protagonist to Ellie was an absolutely genius choice, executed flawlessly. It showed that neither of them was good nor bad and that they were both as bad as each other, as well as they were both the villains in their eyes. So at the start you hate Abby, but then learn to understand her and what she did by seeing her motivations and reasons. I think Dina and Jessie were well introduced characters and I loved both of them as well as most new characters introduced in this game (except Seth). The game also brought in old characters like Tommy and Maria in a smooth and satisfying way. I think killing Joel early in the game made it so the game could focus on Ellie and her emotional journey, giving Joel the backseat, save for a few flashbacks. The characters have incredible dialogue and development and I loved all of them, as evil as a few of them were.

    GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay in this game is extremely similar to the first game, but more refined and a little less clunky. The controls were greatly improved and I loved the fact that Ellie had her own knife so I didn't have to keep crafting shivs. I also love the new fight animations and the fact that you can now dodge melee attacks. I liked how looting was a more central part to the game as well as exploration. The fact that they incorporated some more platforming elements from the Uncharted games but they didn't make it too superhuman, helped create immersion and made me love the world more than I already did. My only complaint, was that the stealth kill animation for Ellie's knife got pretty tedious to go through towards the end of the game. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the refined gameplay and controls as well as the new fresh elements introduced.

    GRAPHICS AND TECHNICAL ISSUES:
This is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played, up there with Uncharted 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Every little thing is very detailed, from large, vine-covered, collapsing buildings to the tiniest blade of grass. Each character model's face had insane photo-realism and incredible animations. The acting was incredible and officially the best I have ever experienced in a videogame. The environments were amazing and very well thought out. I loved how the game would occasionally drop the player into open environments to explore and discover. I ran into a couple of weird bugs but nothing huge or game-breaking. The lighting, shadows and immersion were innovative and beautiful. I loved ruined Seattle and Jackson as well as Santa Barbara at the end. CONCLUSION:
This is definitely one of the best games I have ever played and I just do not understand why its getting completely nuked by negative reviews. I can see the flaws but at the same time, I love the game for them. Final review: Play the game. Especially if you like the first game. You might not like it, but you should still have the experience to remember.

Also side note but, I saw a bunch of things talking about trans characters? I guess this may be referring to Abby, as from a certain angle she lookes a bit masculine but I never thought she was transgender. TL;DR: I love the story, love the characters, love the world, love everything. Please play this game.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

This is exactly how to ruin a perfect game with a **** sequel. If they make part 3 it’s gonna be a disaster. If Naughty Dog went that direction people would criticize for that because it's more of the same old stuff. It is a story you have to come in with an open mind. The story is about hate and revenge. I can hardly think of any games that have made me feel these emotions so strongly. This story is controversial and everyone will have different opinions on it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Shocking reading through some of the comments on here. The story makes an incredibly BOLD call in killing Joel so early in the story but if you stick with is and actually invest in the 25 hours of gameplay the story is incredibly rewarding.

We're so used to seeing playable characters as the good guys but this is a beautifully balanced game where Ellie and Abby's story arcs transcends one another. Ellie's morality declines as Abby's rises. Abby and the WLF crew are incredibly detailed with strong, well thought out back stories. When I first switched play to Abby after Day 3 Seattle I switched my PS4 off in annoyance but got so involved with her arc that she is an incredibly likable and selfless character in the end.

Graphics are amazing, the game play feels the same as the first (which does feel repetitive at times) and there are some genuinely horrifying moments (this is a survival-horror after all).

Where the impossible task of coming close to such a fantastic original game TLOU2 does a pretty darn good job and is certainly worth a play through.

A DLC to see where Ellie/Dina are in the aftermath would be very welcomed.

Don't believe the outrage. Play the game first, then make up your own mind.

Imagine killing one of the most loved characters in the last 10 years of gaming in the stupidest possible way and then FORCING you to play the killer. Sick idea Devs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm sorry, but the story of this game is brilliant. I simply cannot comprehend how people say it's bad. I think a lot of people can't get over Joel dying. There is a difference between something that you don't like happening in a story, and the story being bad.

The Last of Us 2 brings another point of view to the table. A point of view in which Joel isn't actually such a good guy. He did things in first game that weren't that great, he killed a lot of people for selfish reasons. This game shows us BOTH points of views, Abby's and Ellie's. We see a lot of character development from both of these characters. Their stories intertwine and we realize that they are... almost the same. They both went looking for the same thing: revenge. Only to find out at the end that it's just not worth it. All that came from that revenge was pain, and death, and loneliness. I found it super interesting the way they told the story from Abby's perspective. I liked it. It shows us the world isn't always black or white.

The game also shows us a lot of flashbacks. The moments shared between Ellie and Joel were simply wholesome and beautiful. The last flashback we see at the end shows us Ellie was angry at Joel after she found out he lied to her. She would have prefered to die to find a vaccine, she said that that way her life would have had a purpose. She ends up telling him that she doesn't think she can ever forgive him, but that she wants to try. That was the last time they saw each other. In my opinion this is what made her look for revenge. It wasn't because of Abby, it was because of herself. She didn't forgive him before he died, and that was eating at her inside.

The end is bittersweet, but I really liked it. My interpretation of it is, when Ellie returns after sparing Abby's life, she finds out everything that she's lost due to her hunger for vengeance. But to me it really feels like she is... finally at peace? It feels like she finally forgave Joel. And at the same time, forgave herself.

This game is simply a 10 for me. As I said, I really enjoyed the story. But the graphic aspect of it is simply outstanding as well. The music, brilliant. The characters, brilliant. The gameplay is very similar to TLOU1, but it's still fun and it works. They made some small changes that were needed as well. I don't know, maybe I'm just too positive, but I personally couldn't find any flaws in it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Brilliant Masterpiece! Anyone wanting to know the truth about this game, just play it. The game play is far better than the first its smoother, movement is smoother, shooting is fun and the enemy variety is always fun. Realizing that the enemies you face have names and people that care about them and even the infected were people at one point is admirable. The absolute BEST part of the game is the world building. The environments are always fresh and even though you play the same 3 days in the same city as Ellie and Abby the city is always full of surprises and the areas are always breathtaking. The collectibles have interwoven stories to tell and all of them are worth the time of reading. I loved the story much more than the first, something I've come to love and respect about Naughty Dog is telling a story no other game is telling. Every negative review talks about how they disagree with the characters decisions. This isn't your average Ubisoft game, this a story about characters that live in a world that could happen at anytime, and those actions that they make are far-fetched because people "can't feel connected". Yet we see what happens every year on black Friday in the US, please. The emotions that the characters have and the voice-acting make me actually feel this world rather than just stare at it. Each protagonist struggling with fears and PTSD is incredible. Playing with Abby made ME afraid of heights in the game, i struggled with those parts and it was the best. Please don't ;listen to the negative reviews, open your mind, devote about 28 hours to this masterpiece and I promise you'll understand and see. Expand

Just finished the game, the story could have been better but the graphics and sound were pretty good.

I felt like it was a perfect extension of the first game, felt like there was never even a time gap between playing. While I wish some things would have been a little different I can appreciate the direction they wanted to go with the game and absolutely enjoy it for how it was presented. Don't let hateful people make you feel bad for something you enjoy.

I typed a lot of word and only to realize that they are all meaningless because i cannot convince how great a game could be to people who actually didn't even try to play this game. STOP rating anything that you never even try to understand at all. If you really want to rate something, maybe primary school textbook isn't a bad idea at all, after all that could be the only thing that you ever try to read BY YOURSELF. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great game people only given hate because of a death of a character and how it happens then scoring it a 0 mark basically not taken into account the graphics, character design, voice acting, lighting, and story which is for the most part sad and depressing. But beautiful and masterful in a way its told and plays on you're emotions good and bad make a great peace of art and is what i look for in games, TV shows and movies.

If this game didn't kill Joel then the haters would call it a masterpiece or if it was a whole new game they would call it the same. me personally i just could not relate to Abby because of what she did that's why a 9/10 but the rest of the game is awesome and violent which i love.

The fake reviews the game is getting on review site are disgraceful because people come to these site to look for a game to play by reading people honest opinions not fake ones saying that the game is a 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 out of 10 just because a character dies in a violent way and you're not telling them all other parts of the game like design, graphics and all other aspects of the game. It was the same with Death Stranding and Spiderman, no puddle i need to cry and cancel my pre-order WOW.

It make me ashamed to be called a gamer how you can just turn on a company you admire and say you love.

YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO GAMER'S EVERYWHERE AND NEED TO GROW UP.

This game is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. It's that kind of game that makes you feel eager to arrive home from work as soon as possible and play as much as you can. The story is superb, keeps you interested from start to finish, and the gameplay is simply addicting. If you have a PS4, buy this game NOW!

This game is as bad as season 8 of Game of Thrones except unlike Game of Thrones Neil Druckmann has spent 7 years making a massacre out of much beloved characters and a great story. The first game was beautiful, this game is just some torture porn trash.

The Last of Us part 2 is an incredibly beautiful game (graphically), yet it resonates in a vastly different manner to its counterpart with a much bleaker, much grittier, and more violent outlook. The Last of Us part 2 is an incredibly beautiful game (graphically), yet it resonates in a vastly different manner to its counterpart with a much bleaker, much grittier, and more violent outlook. Whilst the first game naturally had these elements, it seems to be dialled up by about 10 here and pulls some very heavy punches within the first hour and until the end.

Now this is not a problem in of itself (heavy narratives are perfectly fine), the problem stems from a lack of those brief flickers of hope and happiness we see in a world full of death and despair that were so memorable in the original. And whilst there are some moments that are indeed like that and others that are designed to have the same effect, they are so few and far between in The Last of Us part 2 that the events that transpire before or after tend to sour them.

This is a game where I had to take regular breaks from playing because I became so exhausted and exasperated with what was happening over the course of the game. Narratively, the story is lacklustre, their themes overtly grim and any threads that the previous instalment had to offer are immediately discarded. Characters are seemingly weaker in context, with Ellie no longer being the cocky, smart mouthed teen we loved (which is understandable given the time frame and events that occur but it is still key to her personality), whilst others are practically non-existent and lack any development or interaction. The introduction of new individuals attempts to get us to be sympathetic to them and their reasoning whilst expecting us to forgive and forget (continually showing us Ellie having PTSD flashbacks) what caused this game to transpire in the first place.

The circumstances these characters find themselves in often defy logic and mostly feel like a push to get a rise emotionally without the narrative to back it up, the extent of which will see certain individuals lose all sense of caution and awareness to force them into situations that they would otherwise not find themselves in. Meanwhile, Ellie finally finds some semblance of happiness and a normal life despite her trauma in the end, only to throw it all away by her own choice in a stupid decision that has no pay off and repeats a previous plot point that also went nowhere and lead to more death and unhappiness.

Gameplay wise, there is no further evolution from prior, apart from maybe a few more animations, polish, and ways to traverse the world or in combat. AI seems to be much stupider this time around, with your companions being the most egregious as they block you from trying to get in cover or take a shot which is very confusing given how good it was previously. Meanwhile, the second half of the game where you switch characters had me bored out of my mind and was entirely too long, to which it felt like filler.

Overall, however, I would not say this is a terrible game as others might see it. Thematically it is a Last of Us game; the gameplay is solid and the voice acting, animation, world and environments are amazing. However, it is such a departure from the character themes in the previous instalment that such passion is very understandable. There are elements here that I really enjoyed, however it mostly just left me hollow and emotionless, especially given how it ended.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
