First I want to say that it is very sad that many people give bad ratings without even playing or criticizing about the progressivism of the game, which is very well implemented since, unlike the latest Disney movies, where they throw their entire political agenda in your face , this game that teaches by example without giving it more importance.
This game is amazing, the story is not bad, the only problem is some bad decisions, which I personally loved to play right now, but in the end they do more harm than good.

Compared to the character she was this change of character is very contrived, and frankly, unbelievable. They turned her into a one dimensional killing machine for the sake of fulfilling their story objectives, with no regard for the audience or the previous character that Ellie was. They could have made this story work but they failed, miserably. I am completely aw struck at the positive reviews this game is getting. People are ignoring very serous issues with this game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I saw the user score at first I thought it was review bombing. I played the game, the graphics and animations are the best I’ve ever seen in a video game. The story is the worst, it is like they dumbed down the characters we love from the first one. The plot armors are countless to keep some characters alive and kill some characters off pointlessly to steer the story the way they want to term the story as unpredictable or bold. You can see where the story is going and why Joel was killed right from the start because he was talking about that incident at the start of the game with Tommy. The story was not interesting. Not to mention it is false advertising by showing Joel and replaced him with Jesse in the game. Ellie killed hundreds of people to get to Abby then unable to kill her because revenge is bad? Well, she killed tons already, why not kill her too that’s the one responsible. This game sucks. Expand

Ah well, let’s just try to ignore it for the sake of giving my own review. “The Last of Us” was one of 2013’s most well-received video games, and it’s a title that has been hailed as one of the greatest video games ever created. Ah well, let’s just try to ignore it for the sake of giving my own review. “The Last of Us” was one of 2013’s most well-received video games, and it’s a title that has been hailed as one of the greatest video games ever created. It took me several years to get around to the game and play it myself, and when I did, I was legitimately worried that the hype would oversell the final product, but thankfully, it didn’t, and the original game remains fantastic for me. It’s one of my personal favorite games, and while the prospect of a sequel was exciting to me even before I played the first game, my hype thrusters went into overdrive once I actually played and beat the game. The more I saw of the game, the more excited I got, and the more I was hoping that the sequel would blow me away like the first game did. And I must honestly say, this sequel did blow me away!
“The Last of Us Part II” knocks it out of the park in all aspects for me: visually, this is by far one of the most impressive-looking games that I’ve seen thus far, with stunning animations and an all-around fantastic design that perfectly captures the bleakness that surrounds the game. Down to the littlest details, the visuals shine, and it’s truly a technical achievement. It’s very rare that I find a game that can invoke my fear of heights and give me anxiety, but kudos to the visual designers for being able to do that. From a gameplay perspective, I think the game is consistently tensing and heart-pounding, whether you’re moving stealthily or engaged in a one-on-one boss fight. Even in its slowest sections, it never fails to put you on the edge of your seat, and while this might seem like a weird descriptor of a game like this, the gameplay does feel…really fun. The writing, as controversial as it already has been, is honestly one of my favorite things about the game. I think the story is extremely layered, and even though it’s very dark and depressing, there’s a lot that I can appreciate as I continue to think about the game. Even after finishing it, I still feel like there are layers I’m continuing to unfold and new ideas popping up in my head, and I think that the game’s handling of a story that’s constantly at conflict with itself is really fascinating. The characterization is great, I love the old and new cast all the same, and I think the writing is lifted by some of the excellent performances from the game’s cast of actors. These actors give some mesmerizing performances, and it’s quite a wonder to behold. Top it off by a light but impactful score from composer Gustavo Santaolalla, and you’ve got a game that really can do it all.
Usually, this is the part of the review where I talk about the negatives of a game, and honestly, in this case I can’t, because there really wasn’t anything that detracted from my enjoyment of “The Last of Us Part II.” What I will spend this time doing, though, is giving a bit of a warning: I know this game has been very controversial so far, and you can probably tell by the user score, but it’s received a lot of criticism, which doesn’t totally surprise me. This game was always going to be divisive, and given that the story centers so heavily around moral ambiguity, it’s going to be polarizing and constantly at odds with itself. Some elements of the story will leave you conflicted and, at times, probably really angry. That said, though, this is a game that’s very layered and it often begs for you to read into every little detail that you can. For better or worse, even the most controversial aspects of the story have purpose in it. My advice if you want to get the most out of the game: take nothing the game gives you at face value. There’s always something to unpack here, so if nothing else, don’t immediately write off the game because of some of its controversial elements.
All in all, while “The Last of Us Part II” might not exactly be for everyone, I think this is yet another amazing adventure from Naughty Dog that lives up to the standard they have set for themselves. I personally thought it was just as good (if not, dare I say, better than) the first game, and even if you’re put off by some of what you’ve heard, I highly recommend you at least give the game a fair shot. It’s polarizing, but it’s worth it to see what side of the fence you sit on with it. For me? I thoroughly enjoyed this game, and it’s gonna stick with me for a long, long time.

Absolutely loved it. Can't wait for part 3 one day.

Seems another generation of games ends with a last of us. perfect send off for the ps4.

It also seems like loads of people are hating on the game. If someone's review is 19th of June, then they obviously didn't play through the entire game or even close to it.I would like to state it does feel a bit weird at first to see Ellie so (understandably) angry and sad.. but the second half of the game tells a tale too.. one where you think about your actions in the first half with more weight. It's a very unique story and brave. I loved it.. but I think you need to be older than 18 to appreciate it.. which is probably where of these reviewers are going wrong.

Furthermore, LGBTQ is represented in this game, however it feels natural and not slapped in your face repeatedly. No one should care that Ellie is gay (TLOU DLC showed this). If you do its surely your own fragile masculinity causing the issue here.

Personally I think anyone with a discriminatory review should be banned and deleted.

Either way, this game is a must play for the ps4.

It's like the developers completely forgot why people loved the first game so much.

It wasn't the "gritty world". Or the gameplay, which was only slightly innovative at the time, but hardly the selling point of the game. It was the story and relationship between the characters. The dynamic of taking someone who had lost everything, and giving them something to hope for. To the point where they will sacrifice everything to save that person. The motivation is love, not hate. The sequel plunges you into hatred. Sure it's fine to explore that element, but doing so while destroying what people love is the wrong move. Just make your own game, a spin-off, a new franchise to explore those elements, don't hijack a franchise people love. You've hijacked the fans love of the characters to make a profit from pre-orders, and shat on the core audience that loved the original game. People don't dislike the game because Ellie is gay, or that there is a trans person (maybe some do, but **** em). We already knew about Ellie, fans played the expansion for TLoU where this is explored. It was great. It built our love for the character and her journey. We dislike it, because you destroyed the characters we love.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. With The Last of Us II, they went for something different from the first game. You don't get two characters solving problems and slowly growing together throughout the game. What they did is interesting in concept and could have been great had they pulled it off. They tried to tell both sides of a story where no one is in the right. While at the same time making it subversive and obsessively mirroring events. Some of it works. But ultimately they failed to sell the key story points. Some of them failed just because they wanted to have a surprise twist 60% through the game and the ending just doesn't work on any logical or emotional level for me.

The game suffers from pacing problems, So you have a game that starts and has some light character building and immediately hits you with the lowest point in the game. Then it goes full murder hobo for 10+ hours while building to a crescendo and then coitus reservatus... They rewind time to give you another viewpoint for 10 hours before it jumps off a cliff complete with a picture-perfect ending that turns out not being the ending before the real ending, another coitus reservatus.

Both arcs in the game stretch on too long. When Ellie is on the mission that results in her reuniting with Jesse I realized that I was bored with killing WLF. I just wanted the game to get to the point. I didn't care about killing Abby's friends I just wanted it to move on. The same thing happened to me when Abby was headed to the Marina and at that point, I knew Yara was dead as soon as she got her stump wet and I knew it was a coin flip between Lev or his Mom being dead.

You could improve the low point from the beginning of the game which feels cheap and out of Joel's character by having the game sections in chronological order or moving a few of the flashbacks from the midpoint of the game to the beginning. The rest of it you could fix by having Abby save Joel & Tommy instead of the other way around. I fully believe at some stage of development the game had a more chronological flow as the viewpoint swap even has the remains of a classic tutorial section.

I almost rage quit after killing the first dog. Killing people is one thing... Killing a dog just hurts on a new level. The death scenes with a Machete or Pick Axe is just forcing the character to be a monster. Even the dog crying while the master is dead hurts so much more than the "Ashley! **** They got Ashley!"

The game has other issues like the only characters with growth are the "twist" characters. Also, Jesse & Dina don't have much depth other than they're friends or these characters are in a relationship. They exist to create some mirroring of sides but you never really get that emotional build-up. Dina doesn't even feel like a real person until you see the life Ellie & Dina made together. Worse they tease you early on with a Joel & Ellie style dynamic with Dina then she becomes a quest hub.

Ellie gets the worst end of the treatment she barely even feels like a human being. The only time she seems to have feelings after they reach Seattle is when she's having her mini-break downs or when Ellie & Dina have their family for all of 5 minutes.

The ending takes the mirroring, a moral lesson, and a rephrased bible verse (2 Corinthians 12:10) to an extreme and suffers for it. Really what was the point? Ellie sacrifices everything to go after Abby one last time. Saves her from death by the elements. Then Ellie goes full psychopath and threatens an unconscious Lev. Fights Abby and is on the verge of killing her to just let her go. Coitus Reservatus. She doesn't even get the chance at closure that she hoped to get from killing Abby. She loses her adopted Uncle cause after hearing the story he's going to flip.

All for a highbrow idea that revenge is a cycle and the only way to end it is to stop playing. There was another option. Kill Abby then Kill Lev and mirror what Joel did at the end of TLOU 1 when he killed Marlene.

Or have Abby finish Ellie, Dina, and Tommy in the theater... That would have been a more satisfying story.

Bugs wise... Disappearing UI. Animation bugs that can make bloaters unstoppable. Getting stuck in walls. Audio bugs where enemies just constantly say audio lines over and over. Not horrible but also not what I want from a AAA story-driven game.

Game Play Gripes... If you hide your head behind a skinny tree you're completely hidden and it's made more hilarious by the 3rd person perspective. Also, **** melee kills on dogs. They are brutal and just feel bad.

Controversy... The character that the internet is most bigoted over never even presents as gay or transgender. She's a muscular woman that has the same male love interest the entire game even though there is a cast of openly LGBT characters.

I thought this game was great, no story was going to live up to the original and this was what I hoped for, a game that made you think what it was all about, the revenge theme throughout was really well done, if you want a game with a happy ending you're playing the wrong game and should know that going in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

O mundo de the last of us é sombrio e isso é fantástico.

What we expected vs what we got is a soulless game that tries to give you a lesson the wors way possible, it had really great potential but the inexperience of the Directors and whatever they tried to do just backfired horribly because it did not have a good structure, regardless the game have some astounding moments that without the story are enjoyable

Yes Joel was done dirty, but I could accept that is possible for him to die. However I didn't like that you had to play as Abby as I felt she was been force in to make her likeable. I'm sure some people liked her but I didn't. Then after all the killing that Ellie does I'm not given the choice to end Abby instead she is allowed to get away. Yes they are trying to show closure by saying revenge is bad, but I feel they should have given players the choice of killing Abby or not. Expand

A flawed masterpiece that seems to be miss understood.

    Spoilers ahead.
Naughty Dog has for the most part succeeded in the difficulty of making a compelling sequel. Their use of psychology throughout the intertwined narrative of both Ellie and Abby cannot be passed off as “lazy writing”. To make the player walk 5 miles in the shoes of the villain Abby after you as Ellie have wreaked revenge soaked havoc on her friends and faction for the death of Joel isn’t something I’ve experienced in gaming. It’s clever and effective. By the end of a 25-30 hour campaign, you have 2 characters on opposing sides of the same coin in a story that deals with not just revenge but the morality of right and wrong and the effects of action and consequence.
The motion capture is fantastic, the Ellie and Joel flash back scenes are beautiful. New characters are charming but be warned, this is not a story for the faint of heart. Emotions will be tested, your heart will be pulled out whilst you get kicked in the guts.
Gameplay- not much new in terms of innovation but a more effective jump button allows for some new traversal options as well as squeezing through gaps to make those encounters a little more exciting.
Prone position has been added which can give players a tactical edge.
A plentiful arsenal. Both players have a well balanced array of weapons to master.
Upgrades system has been simplified and crafting and scavenging remain a key component.
Environments are very detailed and beautiful to look at. There’s the photo mode if you are so inclined.
    New game plus.
Array of difficulty settings for those inclined to punish themselves.
Accessibility options are huge for players, I have seen visual and audio adaptation demos. I know that these settings are something that the disabled gamers have praised.

I can see why this game has had some negative scores, yes it’s a hard pill to swallow. Yes Joel is killed early on. Yes Abby’s character model can be distracting at first, you need to suck it up and follow the story, get into it, listen and feel. It’s the only way the game will have meaning. Expectations will be subverted. I hated that phrase on Star Wars last Jedi, which I’m still not happy with but it does work here.
If part 3 is made I will give this a 9. I wasn’t 100 percent satisfied with the ending. I would have liked a little more on what the future held for Ellie.

This game is simply incredible. I find it incredibly ironic that the amount of hate this game has made is what also drives our very characters. I will not go into spoilers, but both Ellie and Abby have very compelling motives, and each one of their stories are extremely emotional.
The gameplay...OMG THE GAMEPLAY!!!! While part one is somewhat limited in terms of this, part two improves on this significantly. I have never played a game where the combat feels to grounded and raw. Violent, yes; but an integral part of the story that it is trying to tell.
I could write an entire essay about this masterpiece, but I want to go and play again on new game plus; survivor. What I will say is this: this game will not be for everyone. What don I recommend? Go into this game with an open mind. Rid yourself of all expectations. PLAY IN A DARK ROOM (for horror purposes).

As a fan of Last Of Us Part 1
The Game looks Phenomenal, Beautiful textures, models and set pieces..
The game-play is good but isn't much different from Part 1, and jump looks like Mario's jump.. The story starts strong but after the first hour or so, kinda become lazy and more lazy over time.. Ending is very unsatisfying and not in a good way.. I wanted this game to be better than

I wanted this game to be better than Part 1, but it suffers from the Sequel Syndrome just a tad bit..

Here is to hoping for a better game next time..

An incrdible game wich made me feel things i never felt before. First there where things i hated but at the end it all made complete sense. All charakters are great even the "antagonists". A must-play.

Ignore the angry trolls who have not even bought the game, people love to be angry about things and in this case it is the LGBT representation. The story is incredible and powerful and the gameplay is both brutal and satisfying. Easily tied with rdr2 as one of the best games I have had the pleasure of playing. the duality of the story is incredibly capable of leaving you without knowing what to feel, and this is the best feeling that TLOU2 provides, the gameplay is just fantastic, and the story sometimes fails, but in general arrest you, no game is perfect, but TLOU2 come close

Amazing, so Sad about the hate, people dont understood that its a differnt story.

it seems that it’s understood that the author was trying to say, but how poorly everything is arranged ... how much you shouldn’t give a damn about the motivation of the antagonis. in the end, it's just a pity the time and money that I spent on the game

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
