Funny how many 0/10 reviews for this got posted withing 12 hours of it coming out, when it takes at least 20 hours to finish, longer if you're actually exploring and playing as intended...

Funny how many 0/10 reviews for this got posted withing 12 hours of it coming out, when it takes at least 20 hours to finish, longer if you're actually exploring and playing as intended...

I will start by saying I can understand how this game isn't everyone's cup of tea. The world and stories that take place it in are unrelentingly dire. It's about the best and worst of humanity showing through under the most traumatic circumstances imaginable. That said, I don't know how anyone could say that this game isn't a solid product.

Well, OK, I guess if you feel like a character being Jewish, or Gay, or Trans, or you know... a Woman, is "rubbing" an agenda in your face, I suppose you'll hate this. I personally like that they made none of those above traits the defining trait of any of the characters, they're people who happen to be one of the above, among many other well rounded things.

Mechanically, I found playing the game a lot better than the first one. The reworks to character movement and stealth are a huge step forward without feeling like they were trying to reinvent the wheel. This also allowed for much more open and inventive level design, thanks to more mobile characters and more varied AI behaviors. The fact that the game feels similar, but not the same to the first one is a plus.

Narratively, the story is a lot darker than the first iteration. It can be a slog at times. I was glad when it was over because I wasn't sure how much more I could take. But at the same time, I couldn't put it down until I reached the end. I played my first play through in about 25 hours, exploring liberally, and completed it in 2 days.

Does it live up to the previous iteration? It's hard to say. I will say that it felt True. This is not a world of rosey outlooks and happy endings. The consequences of the previous game are significant, and though I was upset by what happened, I never felt like the events of the game didn't follow a natural progression of cause and effect. Ultimately, the ending felt satisfying, if melancholy, which frankly isn't that different from what I felt at the end of the first game.

That said, The Last of Us was one of the greatest stories ever told in video gaming, so if Part II only reaches 90% of that level for you, it's still pretty good.

The graphics and sound design are exceptional, the game is mechanically sound, and the narrative is well crafted. How anyone could give this game a 0/10... I dunno. As I write this, the game is out 2 days and it's 9420 - Green, 932 - Yellow, 22014 - Red reviews. I suppose, like the world this game depicts, the majority of people, free from the constraints of society, choose to be belligerent ****

For my part, I first reviewed this as an 8/10 but every day I come back and I knock it down a point. It's a solid 6.5 in my book. A masterpiece of craft and storytelling that I really did not enjoy even a little bit. Days latter I'm still thinking about the ending and feeling bad about everything that came before.

The Last Of Us Part II, a perfect example of good intentions with horrible execution. Its basically what you get if you were to take Halo 2's core plot line and shove it in a modern post apocalyptic situation. With Ellie effectively the arbiter. And Abby is the Master Chief.

And Joel is the lazy half baked character assassination of halo 3's death of srg. johnson. With that analogy

With that analogy lets get into the actual technical stuff of this review. Is TLOU2 good NO, is it bad? NO. Would I suggest buying this game HECK NO. The game is a buggy inconsistent mess. I found roughly 3000 bugs. That as a QA tester myself I'd consider show stoppers.

Ive had enemies fall through the floor, dogs spawn from no where and many other bugs including escaping the boundaries of the map to cut what otherwise would be 28 hrs of gaming to around 7.

The only saving grace of this game is that its graphical fidelity is decent. As in take god of war at about 3k and drop it down to 1080p good. IS IT WORTH 60 USD? NO. is it worth 30 or 20? Nah still too much. I'd give it about a 15 dollar value.

TLOU2 is no masterpiece its what every other game has done and barely holds on. These 10/10 bot reviews are as bad as the 0/10 the combat is clunky and feels like a old gears of war game the plot feels like chumming for sharks. And the overall plot is about as solid as watching another half baked redone "taken" movie.

Would I say don't play this game nah, is it so bad you should avoid no. Would I say to play this game also no. For me its a 6 outta 10 cause the blatant laziness. its also very DEPRESSING. I'm using gaming analogies to avoid spoilers. But its for me just above average. If you want to play a game play something else. And I pray don't make the mistake of sinking 2 days into this game. Just wait for it to reach the like 10$ price range.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, here's my problem with the other side of the Reviews that give it a perfect score.
My logic is this : You gave 'The last of us 1' a 10 too, so you should be able to tell the difference between a great story with great narration and character arc, since you liked that 1st game so much. But you fail in this simple task, You saw no flaw. I repeat. You saw and played a PERFECT game.

    *Spoilers ahead*
This game has no 'heart'. The story is weak and character choices are at least dumb and careless. There is no essential 'journey' here, only Jumpcuts years later. And this happens 3-4 times throughout the game. 4 years ehave passed, some years have passed, etc. This is poor writing in my opinion. There is no respect to the characters (bad or good), they all seem to be driven by anger but the game fails to communicate that anger. It just puts the player (which let's face it, we are not the player but rather a mechanism to progress the inevitable story, since you cannot alter any of the facts) to a dark place. A place where they want to put the controller down. If that's what they where going for, well, they did it.

And then there is all this weird stuff planted in a videogame like, smoking weed, lesbian sex, transgender like characters nailed from behind by a director lookalike, a rather inappropriate way of killing essential characters from the 1st game's cover being spit on by a game director lookalike, poor dialogue, and it seems that WOMEN are the only essential part of this game. Furthermore, there are these silly fights in which Ellie or Abby seem to overcome with no broken arms or legs or anything really rather than some bruises, yet Joel doesn't even lifts his hands up when he is about to take a hit from Tiger Woods. It's just the directors way of giving us the middle finger. It's like he was angry at US or he is in such a miserable dark place of his own that thinks THIS can cause feelings to the player other than anger. Well, it can't.
Then we have this angry looking face on the cover that screams revenge, yet no revenge ever occurs. And spare me with this 'she realised that killing her won't bring back joel'. She knew she couldn't make Joel come back right from the start. She just wanted revenge. Well, too bad she wasn't the director's favorite transgender.
The way men die in this game (essential characters like Jesse , Joel and everything that starts with J probably) is just stupid. Tommy gets shot in the head and lives? In what universe a trauma like that heals in a post apocalyptic world? This is just POOR writing. And he talks too? like no nerves harmed? just a flesh wound? just to progress this hideous story?

Sure, it's visually pleasant and rather smooth looking game, althgough the camera needed some work and some animation (like the dogs sliding turning animation in the city) needed extra love, the sound quality is excellent but there are sound effects like jumping that could be spared. Level design is great but the set pieces of the enemies needed work because normal people do not have this behavior in real world, like walking up and down in a corridor when they have a lookout right outside. Stealth is a joke since the outcome is probably every time the same.

Gore. It's a gore galore. Gore right until the very end, where Anakin, sorry Ellie realizes that she can't lose any more fingers. And Abby needs to take the part of Joel for The Last of Us 3, where now a strong independent woman teaches that boy how things work.

And you know the worst part? It's going to win Best game of the year award because all of these critics that FAILED to do the simple task of rating a game with so many flaws. They saw no flaw. I repeat. They saw and played a PERFECT game.

In comparison with Part I the last chapter suffers from routine gameplay. Sometimes it’s even boring. You get tired with looting, killing and ones again.
The whole story is overextended. In the end you are willing to cut it off, stop narration and let it come to some point. And the point is no point at all. You may argue that the long story is fare enough to tell there is no black&white

In a nutshell, the game might be excellent with it’s music, design, used time-tricks and more but this time around I wouldn’t say It’s the Last of Us we deserved. It’s far from perfection and definitely not the Game of the Year.

Ok, this is a painful experience for me. The Last of Us was of the games that made me get PS4 back in the day, but then the spoilers came I clung to a small piece of hope that maybe they weren't accurate but alas I was proven wrong.
But if we forget all about the story, the game looks stunning while the controls feel a bit stiff but that is how I remembered TLoU so I wasn't too bothered

I could rant for a small eternity about the story but I'm trying not to, since currently I'm erasing this game from my head so I can always remember TLoU as it was, a masterpiece.
I wouldn't buy this game again, solely because of the story but if you don't care about the story in a single-player story game then sure go get it but if you need a story to follow then don't buy it especially if you played TLoU.
I'm sure this review will be deleted but I needed to give my 2 cents and remember even though you hate the story don't rate it at 1/10 there are still good aspects to the game.

The biggest problem with the game is the characters, the story and the antagonist. It’s not the worst thing i have seen but a fan of the first game will hate every thing about it. Abby, the new character is the worst part of this game. I don’t know why we have to play as her but it’s bad. Basically, the game want to make us love the antagonist more, it doesn’t work. The other problem is the political agenda in this game. It’s cringy because it’s almost always a big red arrow screaming “ LOOK, WE HAVE DIVERSITY ! ”. It doesn’t feel natural at all, TLOU 1 was very good with it diversity. They were just survivors, not icons to represent one group that ND wanted to show. Graphics - 10/10 Animation, environments, and character design are honestly astounding to experience. Such a joy to view. The peak of current gen gaming.

    Gameplay - 7/10

During your time you will as a player be controlling a number of characters throughout the 30hrs or so to complete this game, who alll play very similarly to one another. In all honestly if you have played the first game you know what to expect here very simply and similar puzzles, get from point A to Point B and you decide on either fighting or stealthily getting to point B.The differences here there are more routes and ways how the player can traverse during combat. Above, below and squeezing past tight spaces to escape. Creating a feel of smoothness in whilst taking on 3 different enemies. Sound - 8/10 The score for the game isn't as impactful as the previous, however does it job.

Now the biggest change and improvement here is the enemies.

The sound of a those clickers ringing through your ears when they are near and alert is astonishing, keeping myself in the fear zone when traversing these them. Another area of improvement is human enemies communicate, grief for a lost friend or animal that the player has killed and does immerse you more.

****Special Note**** Naughty Dog should be applauded in there efforts for accessibility to players who may have difficulty in hearing, seeing and dexterity, as the player can create and change to there own needs. The industry really needs to take note.

    FINAL IMPRESSION 6/10

As a fan and the way Naughty Dog decided on certain story elements is very ballsy. Stories take time to become loved, here its destroyed for the fans in the tutorial section of the game. This game is about the story, not its gameplay as it very simple in practice and hasn't evolved from the previous installment. I simply had to force myself to finish this game, after not caring anymore after the games tutorial.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is about hate, and boy does it try its best to make you hate it. It's not a 10/10, but its not (as the joke goes) *Naughty Dogs**t*. The game is fine, the biggest issue is the fact that the gameplay doesn't go enough to hold your interest between the story beats, and when those story beats do arrive its a mediocre mess for most of the game. The additions to gameplay are few and far between, with a jump that adds little, a prone that was sorely needed, a QTE melee combat system that adds immersion to the combat but is condemnable gameplay wise. All this set in a more open environment just makes the game feel worse. The story is not the sequel we all wanted, it is not the fallout of Joel's lie destroying his and Ellie's relationship to tragic ends, it is a story about a whole new cast of characters, and these characters walking dead esque existence in the world of the last of us. You do still play as Ellie, and you see Joel a fair bit too, but the focus is on these new characters. Unfortunately, the masterful opening hours of the last of us's build up to get you invested in the lives of the Ellie and Joel, have in the last of us 2 been replaced with a story that feels like it was written by a 10 year old in comparison. The last of us made you love the characters, but the last of us 2 expects you to like the characters based on their identity, and not for what the story shows us about them. And if I dont like the characters or story of a 25h game with mediocre gameplay, then I'm not going to like the game, and I didnt. But the game still gets points for its production value, graphics, sound, and competency in not being an bug ridden mess. But that is low praise for what should have been the game of the year. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game doesn't deserve less than a 5 and anyone who is doing so without explaining in great detail about why is not a real fan of the last of us. Most of these reviews were put up before anyone could have finished the game. The plot ties together nicely during the end. I understand the game is a bit of a grind but it's got great action. Great environments. Stunning scenery. Ok writing, not great, but not trash. People giving the game a 0/10 should be ashamed to call themselves fans, This game ties in a lot with the first one and offers a lot of closure. The worst part about the writing is how obsolete most of the characters become other than Dina and abby. (and even Dina is pretty obsolete ) The game doesn't handle pacing well, but if you enjoy the pace then it's great. The unique enemy fights are a treat as I found myself freaked out more than once, especially when that blob thing in the hospital attacked us.

I am mildly dissapointed in the easter eggs. Abby only finds coins mainly and for the majority of the game there is a bunch of letters left from people who have died or relocated. Not many of them were a good read, mostly I was looking for safe codes, but a few were actually nice to read. Ellie's collectibles come in the form of trading cards, which is okay, but I don't really understand them. I much preferred the original collecting of comic books as those were more in my interests. Perhaps Ellie could have collected video game discs? Or old boxes for video games.

Playing as abby at the start was pretty meh, but her character really does improve and develop to the point where I found myself supporting her. Not to say she's ok, she's a monster like Ellie.

    And Ellie is a badass.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. aside from all the bad scores the game itself is not that bad, the issue is that it is not perfect.

The game excels at some points, it has a really high technical level, the graphics are gorgeous the gameplay is an upgraded version of the gameplay on TLOU 1, definetly there are some things the game industry should learn from this game, but there is one thing that nobody should learn from this game and this is how to make a good story.

The story alone is not bad, its just not good, but what makes this story worst that others is that i follows a really good one. The characters on TLOU 2 feel out of place, they dont think or act the way that we learned from the first game, with any other characters without context this story may work but since they are using ones with a really strong background that makes everything break, aside from that the story fails in show itslef, the way the director changes the order of some events trying to hide from the player some info that the character knows really does not work, there are many cases in which an action of the character would be explained if we just knew what happened in the past, and the moment we get to know what happend it is already to late, this is a mayor spoiler but its almost known by everyone that joel dies, but the moment in which he dies is just out of place, the feelings of Ellie may be clear in the future, why is she so angry why is everythin worst, all of that we get ot know in the end of the game but its to late for us to relate to ellie, the most impact we get from some scenes its the scene itself, there is no context or background for us to feel anything, we just get to know the other side of ths story later on.

So yeah, maybe the game its an excelent showcase ok thecnical skills, but fails in what made TLOU a game to be remembered, its just a mainstream story told in the worst way posible, still it does not deserves the score most people are givin. I'd say that the game is not the wors but also is not the best it should be remembered as a failed attempt to make something great.

Shooting, dodging, mele, she is like an unstoppable tank in this game. And I think I know why she plays very well, because Naughty Dog wants you to love this character. Why else would she be so powerful and with all the plot points to try to convince you to relate and feel empathy for her? But you see, this is exactly what's wrong with this game. Empathy for a character cannot be forced upon the players. It must be EARNED! Characters development need to feel natural. Plot points need to be logical. Choices should be given to the players to decide on what the outcome of the story. One word: Flashbacks? seriously Naught Dog? Master of story telling in Uncharted 4 and TLOU, decided to use a flashback to justify an important character action in this game. This is lazy story writing and simply cant be justifiable by just blaming all players homophobic. Now we all know fractions will be its standalone but nonetheless it is cut from the main game. So the $60 you pay for this game is gonna be less of a game compare to the first one. With the heavy weight on its shoulder, I am sorry TLOU2 simply isn't good enough. Also, it is just wrong to blame the players. Maybe you should try listening to their feedback instead of justifying for your own bad story writing. Please stop pushing agendas which is clouding your judgement and making good quality games. Be the naughty dog that everyone loves, instead of this emo, hate provoking teenager like Ellie in this game. You used to make master piece, Uncharted 4 remember? If you want the praise from everyone, you need to earn their trust again. There are some scenes which imo very unnecessary to be included such as the sex scenes and the execution scenes. Narrative has a myriad of issues, Pacing predominantly, Character's contrary motivations, bad dialogue at times (cringe), Unlikable boring propagandist and all characters in general are bland.
Best parts of the game are with Joel (Flashbacks) mostly prior to the bipolar retardation.
Abby was ok but Ellie was the worst character in the entire game. i had to force myself to finish the last 3-4 hours because the story is so unintelligent and unaware while attempting to be self aware to justify abysmal plot devices, convenience and contrived scenes leave the player wtaf is this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was excited for this sequel. I saw the gameplay and I was hooked. It was an evolution of what come before in The Last of Us: Part 1 [retroactively]. I have no qualms with the gameplay. I think the mechanics are fine. I love the addition of the prone position to crawl under cars for stealth which also further supports the AI mechanics to check under cars. A dodge button is nice for close combat. I'm waiting on the multiplayer at this point. Sadly, that's where my praise for this game ends. It is a meandering incoherent mess. It's narrative is phenomenally trash. I honestly have no idea how this got approved by anyone. Neil said he had thought about the story for two years before he was ready "to make sure it was a story worth telling as a sequel to the original The Last of Us." It is a failure. It says it's a different game, but it does the same thing. Kills a character in the beginning of the game. It just takes two hours opposed to half an hour in the original game. I only played five minutes of horse riding as said future dead character, but it's fine since we played as said character throughout the entirety of the original game. Sure, that is true. The difference is said character experienced a time skip. I don't know how this person changed. How am I supposed to believe the situations they are placed in? "Oh, don't worry. It will be explained at the end of the game.", says Neil Druckmann. Which is a lackluster scene since context of two characters conversation of said previous night's "confrontation" was discussed and anyone and everyone can assume what happened. Also, we saw most of the scene in the E3 church trailer. For some reason, Neil thought it was a good idea to take those scenes and splice them throughout the game. It's incoherent. Neil wants me to like characters that I just met with random weaknesses to make them seem human, yet I don't care about any of them. Not even characters from the first game. I don't care about Joel, Ellie, Tommy, or Maria. The game didn't give me time nor did it take adequate time to make me care. It's wake up. Grab knife. Grab bag. Leave for patrol. We meet and get a shallow understanding of some people, but the narrative is so focused on rushing to Joel's death I can't experience the world or the characters. It didn't let me sit and stew with these people. Nah. Kill Joel. Small couple of scenes of the aftermath. Smash cut to Seattle. Somehow didn't face any issues getting to Seattle. We just get dropped into a wide sandbox area. It's an odd situation this game placed itself in. I think this is due to the praise Neil received for his first game. I assume he thought he could do whatever he wanted and it would be good, but the issue is The Last of Us did a good job of setting up the tropes of their game. Lemme throw another comparison your way. "Oh, baby girl." is a sentence Joel says after he finds Ellie dicing David's head with a machete. This is a moment of acceptance for Joel. He accepts her as his family. As a daughter. Abby tries to do the same thing. She says, "You're my people." to Lev. Which makes little sense since they have know each other for approximately a single day. It isn't poignant because Abby wasn't resisting as Joel did. Abby felt guilt and was like yeah. This will absolve me of my guilt. It's an torturous game to trudge through. Arduous. I thought it was odd when some fans were saying, "Don't make a sequel to The Last of Us. Don't ruin such a great game." We all should have listened. It's unfortunate, but this is the reality we live in. A sequel to a unanimously praised game is phenomenally divisive. Can a game where half of the audience doesn't think it's good truly be called a good game. What does my perspective matter? I'm just another dumb virgin gamer. It's not like I have an actual degree in writing. Expand

Except for excellent animations (the best in games' history) and very good graphics, this game has one extra plus. It reminds us how good was MGS V gameplay and how tongue-in-cheek Kojima's writing is superb to Druckmann's graphomania.

The Last of Us Part II is a really good game with new game mechanics, wider variety in level design, insane level of graphical fidelity and an absurd amount of accessibility options that sets the new standards of fiddling with the game, but it is not a worthy sequel to the beloved "The Last of Us" that came in 2013, because of two reasons: story pacing and deviation from the source.

In terms of story pacing, the game is divided into two halves which is played out from the perspective of two playable characters. The first half of the game ends on the cliffhanger with both protagonist facing each other. Now, at this moment, the perspective of the game is switched to the second protagonist. The problem here is that we know we have to reach the earlier cliffhanger, so even after four of my playthroughs, I just tried to rush to the part where both protagonist meet. That made the second half almost irrelevant to me, thereby not making me invest in that character and not because of a certain incident many people are enraged about.

Another major factor, which has become downfall of various series, movies an other entertainment medium of storytelling is the deviation from the actual source. In The Last of Us II, the game does not focus on two primary factors on which the prequel focused on: The Infected and Ellie's immunity. Rather than using them as the medium used to drive the story, they are left as an afterthought. They took a backseat to the revenge story that Neil Drukmann was so desperate to tell, you can actually see that this particular storyline was rejected by many game development teams, including Bruce Straley himself. Here is a video which explains it in a more elaborate way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c9F0oCMRw4&t=9s. His fixation on this plot is what makes the story of this game not worth the sequel we deserve.

I was conflicted in scoring this game either a 5 or 6, but I would rate it a 6 just because Naughty Dog's developers had gone to the lengths to make the gameplay, level design and the graphics more engaging than most of the games on the market.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A poorly paced, badly written, with constant strange design choices accompanied by little innovation on the original.

For example an early 'open' section which is a one off (when I felt it was going to be like Metro Exodus) and then back into holding your hand. Taking control away from the player seems like it gets worse throughout.

Chooses to focus on non interesting characters than the scars and that would be interesting to learn more about or even play as.

So many oddities that it seems like several different people wrote and designed sections without direction or communication with their director.

Ruins everything built in the first story with a fairly unlikable Ellie, absent Joel, limited interaction with previous characters and bland new characters that again are hard to give a damn about.

Strange edits and time jumping which is always poor story design and lacks the coherency of the 'road trip' feeling of the first game. You can 'feel' cut content whilst also not sure if certain sections should be in the game in the first place. Would have been stronger being 5-10 hours shorter.

Poor lighting in parts and not the best HDR which seems like a simulation.

All good games should have one thing in mind at development stage...'Is this fun' and sorry but no, this isn't always fun (If I have to hold triangle again I'll freak out)

Naughty Dog are better than this.

    Intro

The Last of Us Part II is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2013 masterpiece that throws our main cast of character into an unexpected turn of events. Due to the controversy surrounding the game narrative, and my own conflicting feelings after completing the game, The Last of Us Part II will surely be talked about for a while, for better or for worse.

    Story/World Building - 1/3

I am normally a huge fan of Naughty Dog’s narrative, but the story in Part II is lackluster at best and hilariously funny at worse. New characters are poorly written and many are not given enough screen time making most characters like Dina, Jesse, or [REDACTED SPOILER] feel lifeless and inconsequential to the plot. Consider how the game stretches its thin and basic plot to almost 30 hours, you would think we would spend more time to learn about these new characters, but most screen time is taken up in the second half by [REDACTED SPOILER]. Most of the game’s plot felt like filler as it tries to poorly tell a story about the cycle of revenge, stooping characters down to basic character traits to fit the story narrative. There are a few heartwarming scenes from time to time that will make fans of the original happy, but once the game is going on to the second half, it goes downhill from there. If you’re planning to play Part II for its story, you might want to wait for a heavy discount before doing so.

    Gameplay – 3/4

The great combat from the original is back and better than ever. Bigger landscapes give way for more tactical options. New weapons and crafting options help in providing varied gameplay scenarios that can be tackled in a multitude of ways. Everything works as expected besides the few technical hiccups. AI can be dumb at times or a stray bullet may go through a wall and kill you. It’s nothing that bad unless you’re playing on the hardest difficulty. The only downside besides the minor glitches is the lack of a multiplayer. The campaign is lengthy enough and can even drag on due to it’s over winded story, but the gameplay is still as intense and frantic as the original.

    Technical/Performance – 2/3

Graphics are some of the best looking on the PS4 console. Technical hiccups still happen occasionally, as stated in the gameplay segment. Harder difficulties can make problems worse and at times can lead to the game feeling less polished than the original. The soundtrack is pretty good, a little less memorable than the first. Overall, it’s still close to a technical masterpiece but looks don’t make up for a lackluster story.

    Verdict

The Last of Us Part II is a game of disappointing lows and really spectacular highs. It’s everything you wanted from the sequel and everything you did not want all at the same time. I want to like this game but the boring, elongated story is just painful enough to make it a slog to get through even with great gameplay. If you’re a fan of the original, you might want to wait for a price drop, as there are some scenes still worth seeing, but for those not the invested in this series, this might be a hard skip.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really hate giving this game a 6 because I loved the original last of us and was faithful that Naughty Dog would make a game prob won't be better than the original but at least create a great game that served the characters justice and concluded their stories but this game does not do this. For half the game you play as Ellie and that half of the game was so **** fun and cool, If I had to rate the Ellie section of the game it would be a 9 out of 10 but there are some problems I have with this half.

1 is Joel's death. I get that they had to kill off Joel but they killed him off too early and the most disrespectful way possible. I don't care how real to life you want this game to feel, you don't kill off such a beloved character with a **** golf club. what makes his death worse is the back story when you find out Ellie never forgave Joel for saving her at the hospital. then Ellie distanced herself from him makes his death much worse. I also didn't feel that his character was properly concluded, I always had that feeling while playing the game that his arc was not finished as well. I wish they had more description as to what happened after the hospital.

    2. Jesse's death. there isn't that much to talk about I just don't see the point in him dying and the way they executed it was terrible. other than that I feel the gameplay, Music, and story was amazing. I felt that they really did a good job with Ellie's half.

With Abby's half of the game, however, I did not enjoy too much. the first half was pretty **** in my opinion the gameplay was still fun but the story not as much because nothing too interesting happened. coming towards the end half I started to really enjoyed it but still feel it would have just been better playing as Ellie for the 25 hours. the worst part of this section was when you have to fight Ellie at the end. I think that was stupid but to make it worse Ellie loses the fight, I would rather play as Ellie and still lose the fight. It would be like at the end of uncharted 4 when you have a sword fight with Rafe they make you play as Rafe and Nathan Drake loses the fight.

the ending of this game in opinion sucked. Dina leaves you. The backstory tells us that Ellie never got a chance to truly forgive Joel before he died. the characters never felt concluded for Ellie, Dina and Tommy's characters

I can't complain about the gameplay even for Abby's part because that is fun but I still wish that half of the gameplay never happened. The story was good for the first half but its characters never felt concluded and leaves me with more questions rather than answers to each character arc. where did Dina go? What happened to Tommy?. Where did Ellie go at the very end?.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    [ESTA REVIEW CONTIENE SPOILERS]

The Last of Us vuelve luego de un final cerrado.

Before I write my review, let me say that I am a huge HUGE fan of the Last Of Us (and all of Naughty Dog studios games). So much so that before I even started this one, I actually replayed the first one and reread everything just to make sure my experience in this one would go unhindered.

    Anyways... Onto the review...

When I first started Part 2, I was happy to see that this sequel played and felt like the original one. Many of the first game's details were basically carried over and improved. The music, game play, and general ambiance were all kept intact. A perfect example of NOT fixing things when they aren't broken. So to that, I praise the developers. Solid 10.

But beyond the music, the game play, and the ambiance, Part 2 takes what was strong in the first game and tosses it into the garbage. It almost feels as if a different writer or team was in charge of this game as the story telling and the general character development take on a completely different approach. And that's a big problem.

The last of us is a shallow game and that's not a bad thing. It's like if a lake were to have crystal clear water and you can see right through to the bottom teeming with wild life. Or how a glass enclosure can allow us to safely view a tiger in its enclosure. The game is shallow so that you can focus on its story line.

But this transparency is a double-edged sword. Great moments are amplified but so are the crappy ones. Which should make things easier right…? After all, if you know that there would be a heavy reliance on the storyline, all you had to do was make sure that the story lived up to its name.
But perhaps in what could’ve been a golden opportunity became one for disaster as the story line basically fell way short of expectations.
Many of the developments in the original story line were basically "closed off". The relationship between Joel and Ellie was basically stopped. Fireflies became irrelevant. Ellie's immunity to the infection? Didn't even matter. As I progressed deeper and deeper into the game, it almost felt as if someone in the game developer's team was just trying to distinguish Part 2 from the first one. Just because.
And then you have the character development....
Almost the entire game, from to get go, just shoves character after character into your face. Why? I don't care about them. I'm playing this game because I want to find out what happens to our favorite father daughter duo. Therefore.... The only reason why a new character should be introduced is if that character's fate is somehow intertwined with Joel and Ellie. But nope. Instead the developer wastes everybody's time to delve into trying to make you care about characters who are IMO "super useless".

The saddest thing about this game is that I would've been fine if it all made sense in the end. Like if you’re able to pull everything together to make me feel something. But it doesn't. Instead it leaves you feeling ... unsatisfied. So basically, you spend an entire 30+ HOURS on a game chasing NOTHING. Do you know how FRUSTRATING that can be?
So with that all that said, my final score is a 6. If the game was rated without the story and character development being included, I would give it a higher score. But it falls so shortly of expectations I honestly feel at this point that I'm only giving it a 6 because I enjoyed the first one so much.
I really hope that the team at Naughty Dog can see this review and grow from it. I know that they can do better and I've seen it. Here's to hoping that they get their sh** together for Part 3…

Story is awful and awkward, do not want to throw spoilers but believe me, story doesn't make any sense regarding the characters we know from TLOU in the events that unfolds here, also new characters are just swallow except by the antagonist (villain?), Abby, but man, you won't like this character, not because she has such muscles or she is vile, nope, you won't like her because her story in TLOU 2 is just absurd as it unfolds, at beginning make some sense, but then it's just inconsistent, same goes for Ellie.
Game at first glance is shocking but as it unwinds some things becomes obvious and other plains simple doesn't make any sense. Abby character is affected by a kind of what I call Kylo Ren syndrome, SW fans will get it.

Gameplay mechanics and Art is 10.
    Story is barely a 3.
Screwing TLOU saga in the second part (Who knows?), 0.
I'm not averaging here, overall for me is 6. You must play it if you like TLOU but most probably you will get disappointed after the end and not wanting a third part, for me TLOU ended in the first game.

WTF moment bonus spoiler plus: Really Ellie, Dina and JJ enjoying a beautiful, charmful and peaceful life in a farm that seems extracted straight from "Little House on the Prairie", in middle of a brutal and ruthless post apocalyptic pandemic no man's world? Sure !! Real State is still a thing in a lawless world.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sequel to arguably the most well recieved PS4 game offers new refined graphics which are absolutely breathtaking, whilst also giving the player more developed mechanics in the gameplay. This is probably one of the best games out there if you're looking for eye candy in games, from the scenery, facial expressions, level design everything is top notch. The game had several breath taking moments where the immersion was very alive. The performances by the actors must also be taken into consideration when reviewing this game, they truly did an outstanding job.

However this game has major issues with the plot which brings my score down by alot. After only some hours in the game you're faced with a brutal act of violence towards a character which fans love, a character who they had built up an entire game by. I'm completly fine by them killing of this character but the way the character got killed off is extremely bad. This game severely lacks the respect for the characters we all loved. The game lost my interest pretty quickly after i realized i had to spend a huge amount of time playing as the character who killed Joel, Abby. I'm pretty sure the majority of the people who atleast played the first game disliked Abby intensely after she killed Joel, the thought of playing this character for that amount of time just bored me, i wasn't interested.

The characters feel boring and i couldn't care less what happened to them. There was no connection like Joel and Ellie had, infact the best moments in the game were the flashback with Joel and Ellie. When these flashbacks were being played i thought to myself why they didn't just use what the first game did so well? There was so many other ways the story could have unfolded, it's just a shame that didn't happen. The story has some major problems with plot holes aswell that were very apparent throughout my playthrough.

I've no idea what prompted Naughty Dog to leave everything that the fans loved about the first game. It all felt like a pitty revenge plot with over used violence and moments which tried to detach us from the characters we loved from the first game. If they had nailed this story it'd have been in my eyes a clear top score, everything besides the story was of very good quality. it dissapoints me to say that this sequel that i waited a long time for was just not what i expected.

    Positives:

    + Graphics
    + Acting
    + Level Design
    + Gameplay
    + Animations

    Negatives:

    - Characters
    - Lack of character development

They forget that as a player at the wheel you should steer. Instead the story must go where it must go according to the directors and writers. This is a huge problem when your underlying message is violence begets more violence. You cannot condemn violence and talk about how bad it is while taking away player choice. As a result many of the plot points and climaxes fall flat on its ass.

The game's biggest gimmick is how perspective changes your point of view. So if this fails to impress you, the game does very little except that. The impact is a literal "all your eggs in one basket".
Speaking of climaxes, it's certainly a problem if you don't care for any of the characters. This point being subjective. Some will but I didn't. As a result I rather enjoyed playing as the infamous new character the game introduces.

Throughout we don't get a say in what characters do. No option to kill A or spare B. Things just runs on rails. I thought I was clever in thinking that I would spare as many humans as I could via stealth, only to learn that certain doors won't unlock until hostiles are cleared. Literally forcing me to commit murder even though I got past all the threats non lethal.

It's a stealth game. I dig it. I can appreciate that, but then you get RE:4 cabin sequences and it really doesn't make sense the rest of the game design considered. It's just frustrating and tedious. If you start a gunfight via poor judgment - then fair enough, but forced sequences don't work for this title.

Anyway, I'm glad I played TLOU2. I'm not glad I bought the paltry special edition but that's my own fault for falling for an old trick.

The graphics on this game are completely top-tier for the PS4. The game really lets itself down, however, by confining you to playing in urban settings where nature has reclaimed the streets and skyscrapers. This leads to a homogenous environment that makes up a good 50% of the game. You wander around streets and derelict buildings that are difficult to differentiate. However, when you do get to the vibrant visual settings they really are breath-taking. I just wish they weren't so limited and confined to mostly flashbacks.

The gameplay will likely be the second-most divisive aspect of the game. When you examine the formula it's quite one-dimensional and familiar; enter area, eliminate enemies, scavenge for goods and find a way forward.

A major aspect that got in my way was that despite being a linear game, I found myself lost or lacking direction at quite a few points in the game. There is a small open-world area near the start of the game that you traverse on horseback, and this area in particular had me scratching my head a few times. There was a map available but you had to retrieve it from your inventory every time you needed it, making it cumbersome. This was likely to keep the HUD clear to improve immersion, but I'd have preferred a mini-map in the corner of the screen like many games do. There are many areas that look like you can explore them, only to be met with vehicles etc. blocking the way which could easily be climbed over in real life but not in the game for some reason.

I found myself getting frustrated at times with the camera being rigid and my character not moving how I wanted to even with the correct buttons pressed. One near-maddening experience I had a few times was when my accomplice would get in my way, or come running up to me only to knock into me, sending me a few inches outside of cover to be spotted by an enemy. This wasn't frequent, but noticeable.

The story is easily the most divisive and controversial aspect of the game. A lot of this is due to subjective taste, so should be taken as such. One thing I enjoyed was the revenge theme that underpinned most of the game. Many people were not happy at old characters leaving and new characters emerging, but I appreciated the attempt at moving forward rather than saturating characters and stories from the original. There were many complaints around the sexuality and race elements of characters, and I think these complaints ironically serve to prove that such characteristics are still in receipt of abuse and discrimination in modern times and need protecting. Overall I found the story to be the best part of the game as it becomes twisted and shows that separating good guys from the bad guys isn't always easy. The story allows for more experimentation and evolution than the actual gameplay, so I give praise for this.

I do have one major gripe with the story and that's how it is delivered. The game jumps backwards and forwards in time, with flashbacks happening within flashbacks. This makes the story feel a bit all over the place and not paced as well as it could. It seems like some of it was made up as they went along and shoehorned in wherever it could fit.

Let's synthesise this into a conclusion. This game was always going to upset many people and reviews were going to be plagued with bias and extremes. The gameplay struggles to move forward but the game itself is a step forward for the games industry, although not when Crunch and systematic abuse is involved during development.

Really, the game is a few hours too long, and truncating it could have resolved the issues with homogenous and tedium found in the environment.

Don't go into the game with massive expectations or demands. Just go with the flow and allow the game to take you on a journey which the first one did, which is a big part of why I believe it was so successful.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I start this review, I want to say that I did not look at the leaks. I went in without any prior knowledge of the story. I really wanted to like this game as I loved The last of us Remastered on the PS4 but I couldn’t deny that the characters and story narrative was poorly executed in the Last of us Part 2.

First the good aspects of the game, the gameplay is more of the first game but with new characters, weapons and abilities. I found exploring the city of Seattle fun and exciting. The level design is very well thought out throughout the game and the environments are stunning and unique. I cannot fault the character models as they look movie like. The enemy AI is quite smart as they will flank you often and based upon your current supplies and weapons you can change how you approach a situation for example you could use a brick or bottle to lure zombies to other enemies. The game encourages stealthy gameplay as using weapons will diminish your limited resources. I like this as it helps to build the idea of a post-apocalyptic world where supplies are diminished and humanity it on its last legs. I personally only ran into one bug while playing the game where Ellie clipped through the ground inside a river.

Where the game falls short is in the narrative. I think that Joel’s death could have been set up better. In addition to this, the story gets worse after his death. It devolves into a revenge story where the end will leave you disappointed. The pacing feels off as there is flashbacks within flashbacks I got confused some way into the story. Now the characters which have been a source of controversy I would like to first say that I have no issue with more diverse representation in video games as long as it fits the narrative of the game world and if the characters are built up. An example of this is Abby’s physical build, which feels off in the context of the story, as it is not shown how she develops this build aside from a gym in the game that we never see her in. A lot of the characters feel shoehorned in and very plastic and not memorable. I feel that there should have been more character development especially with Ellie and Dina’s relationship and Owens and Abby’s relationship as it feels forced and awkward.

You spend the second half of the game playing as Abbie who is the main antagonist throughout Ellie’s story. The game tries to make you sympathise with her character and fails. I cared more about Ellie’s story and I wanted to play as her. Another character that does not make sense is Mel she is pregnant, but she gets involved in combat throughout the game where she should be at base as the survival of humanity is very important in this world.

Overall, the gameplay is fun, rewarding and tense in places but the game falls short on the poor narrative and characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Summary: While it has better gameplay, awful pacing ruins the story and makes a narrative driven game suffer as a result.

There is no easy review of this game. The game isn't a ten nor a zero. It functions well, and has some improvements, but it isn't flawless. Not even close. The fact this game relies heavily on the story instead of gameplay really drags down the overall score.

Story wise, it's biggest problem is pacing. It is **** awful. The current pacing of the story is: Be with Joel and Ellie until Joel's Death. Split between Ellie and the new character Abby, with a little more emphasis on Abby. Multiple flashbacks, and even flash backing in flashbacks (never do that ever.) Then the climax. The pacing is awful and should've been rewritten. Here's how I would've done it.

Start off as Abby searching for a cure
Finds out it doesn't exist because of Joel
Goes on a manhunt for Joel (but doesn't know who it is)
    Switch to Joel and Ellie
Battles not only zombies, but also these slave traders that are in the game
    Crosses paths with Abby
Abby, not knowing that is the right Joel, befriends them
Joel and Ellie have their argument
Ellie tells Abby about Joel's decision (from LOS) in frustration
Abby realizes that is the Joel she is searching for
Abby (or someone else) kills Joel (Abby feels regret for doing so)
Ellie goes on her revenge trip
    Abby gets captured
Ellie finds Abby and have their final battle
Player decision to either forgive or kill Abby.

Puts that whole story in different context doesn't it? But that's just my thoughts.

Gameplay, Naughty Dog did improve it. Some tweaking with the aiming, and Abby is a good laugh to play as. She feels pretty OP, and it is a blast. Punching zombies, her unbelievable speed (with her body type), she's hilarious and fun. I feel like it gets forgotten about because of her storyline.

Anyway. It deserves the score it gets.

It felt the same as the old game and extremely frustrating at times. It just doesn’t feel like a 2020 game. Understandable for a lower budget game, but not for one with a high budget like this. The background music was not on par with the original game. When I played the original, the guitar made me feel more emotions when playing the game. I would have liked to see more of that in this game, especially with the few scenes they showed with Joel giving the guitar to Ellie.
The story I didn’t care for at all. This is my opinion. Killing off the main character maybe not the best choice. This could have paid off if they introduced better characters, which they didn’t. I didn’t care for any of the new characters. The story was just not even close to how good it was in the first game. I found myself checking my phone during cut scenes, where in the first, I was glued to the screen. All in all, not a terrible game, but definitely not great. Then also remember GoT S8 characters arch and multiply by 10. Side characters in TLoU2 are developed in a sub-mediocre level. Saw this on an youtube comment and 1000% agree - Arthur's horse had a better character development than Jesse, Tommy, Dina, Manny. Only Lev and Yarra have some nice development.

If you are a fan of the first game, you will probably be very disappointed in the story and its pacing. Otherwise, you may or may not find the story tolerable. I'd imagine at some point in your life, you'd like to at least experience this game.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly:

    * The Good: The visuals of this game are breathtaking. The animations are mostly great. And while the core of gameplay is the same as the first game, there are noticeable improvements.

    * The Bad: This game ignores the fact that most people interested in it are 'the fans of the first game'. The pacing of the story is what I would only describe as 'weird on mushrooms'. And some major characters and their personalities are retconned in a big way.

    * The Ugly: The story is very clearly doctored to force-feed certain ideologies and beliefs and stereotypes which are different from the first game. Thing is, pushing ideas through the gaming medium happens all the time, but it is insulting when established characters of the prequel have to morph so they can fit the new narrative.

    Summary:
The visuals and the technical merits of the game make it really hard to score it below 5 out 10. But the story and pacing of it deeply wound the experience.
As a good friend of mine said, "I'd rate the story of this game, 2 lost fingers out of 10."
Also, as a side note, Naughty Dog games used to be on my list of 'buy without any questions'. After this game, they no longer are.

GAME or MOVIE, just make up your mind! stop combining them and making these **** games.

just mediocre, repetitive, bad story. I only enjoyed some of the new mechanics added, 2 of them, rest of the stuff was already available in the 1st one. story is complete garbage and the game contains waaaay too many gameplay interruptions.

Naughty Dog has unbelievably talented people who are simply the best in terms of Game Engine development and refinement of their own technology. They must be really proud of what they've achieved throughout these years and they have the right to be.

My big issue with this game is the story and writing. Joel dies at the beginning of the Story, not a problem at all: sets the mood for a huge ride into revenge and violence in the streets of Seattle. I liked the powerful prologue and I couldn't empathize more with Ellie. I felt the same as what Ellie felt and that's what that prologue was supposed to do.
While in Seattle though, a series of very stupid events happen. Leah, Norah, Mel, Owen, Manny and other characters die (sometimes even by a death worse than Joel's) and no one seem to give a **** about them or notice their death (for clearly forced coincidences). Characters motivations are often very bland and weak and Abby's journey often doesn't make any sense and as a player you struggle to empathize with her and her journey to "redemption".

The ending was very weak and not as powerful as they thought it would be. Imagine sitting at Naughty Dog hearing authors saying "HEY, this walk to the beach following Abby and Lev thinking at what she has done must be really cool" well it's not. Like it's not cool the final fight which I get it is intended to be anticlimatic but not to that extent. In general the powerful story of revenge and redemption that TLOU2 was supposed to be ends up being just an "OK experience". The only thing I can do is to be suspicious of their next work, this game simply leaves me indifferent. No hate, no love.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game has nice graphics and good music. Attention to detail and the feeling of world life is presented at a master's level. The weapon expansion system or the opponents AI also did very well. All in all it is an ND game. Unfortunately, the story itself did not appeal to me. Killing Joel - a veteran by Abby without knowing her motives, then forcing the player to play her makes the game frustrating. But maybe that was the director's endeavor. The ending of the game is equally annoying. Ellie decides to let go of Abby, who also killed Tommy-brother Joel, at the very end of Ellie concludes that revenge is bad? She couldn't imagine it when she brutally murdered Abby's friends [e.g. Nora]. For me, as a person attached to the first part, the story is disappointing. Gameplay is very similar to the first part, not too many new solutions introduced. Most zombie opponents are the same, probably a new type or two has been added. While facial expressions and the expansion of live opponents is admirable. After killing a dog, its owner calls him by name! Overall, this is a good game, although not revolutionary like the first part. As a continuation of Ellie's adventures, the game falls out worse.
It took me about 28 hours to complete the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My honest review of TLOU2

    Will contain some spoilers.

The Last of Us 2 is a story-driven game with elements of stealth, action and survival in a post-apocalyptic world. The current state of the world is filled with a fungus that takes over humans and transforms them into zombie-like creatures. The greenery in the game is lush and all over like it's taking back over the earth. It looks beautiful on the PS4 Pro.

    Gameplay
The Last of Us 2's gameplay is how you'd expect it to be but refined a little from the first game. Easy to control the character movements and trek around the different sceneries and areas within the game. I don't really know what else to say on this because it's basic stuff. I feel the scenery is well designed so it kinda hints on where to go next to progress the story.

    Graphics
The graphics in this game are beautiful especially when seeing the greenery and trekking through forest areas. Everything looks better designed compared to the first instalment. It is definitely one of the nicest-looking games this generation.

    Animations
When it comes to animations this game does them well. Everything is fluid when picking up resources, ammo, sneaking and all the other movements the characters make. I think motion capture has something to do with this also. Well done in the animations department.

Now onto the negatives because these are my biggest reasons I didn't like this game much.

    Story direction
I feel when it comes to the story the game combusts and dies. The story is a simple revenge plot due to Joel killing a random NPC close to the end of the first game which happens to be Abby's father. She simply then gets lucky in finding him after some trouble with infected and then deals with him in such an awful manner. Simply shoots one of his legs off then uses a golf club to beat the living hell out of him. I feel Joel isn't the proper Joel from the first game because why would he reveal his real name to people when he knows personally people would be after him. I feel they made Joel some dumbass person to automatically trust some random strangers and give them his real name. Back to the previous point though. Ellie walks in sees Joel all mangled up and sees him die. I know for a fact the majority of fans are disgruntled with the way he was killed. I feel and many others feel they spat on the character and made him out to be a supervillain or something. What annoys people more is you play as this character quite a bit throughout the game. Only to end up in the end not killing Abby (when playing as Ellie) and just walking away. The whole journey of the first game of building up the characters relationship is pointless because of the events of the second game. All to send this message that “humans are all trash”. Naughty Dog has betrayed the diehard fans and spat on Joel's character.

To wrap this up I feel this sequel isn't as good as the first. I feel they just pandered to a select few groups of people and have suffered for it. The user reviews show people's opinions. It isn't being massively review bombed as the gaming journalists are putting it. It's from real people with real opinions. Not everyone agrees or has the same opinions on everything.

For this, I score The Last of Us Part II a 6/10. The 6 marks going to the positives I gave at the start of my review. Neil Druckmann you needed to do better.

    Naughty Doggy-style!

The second half of the plot for the Last Of Us Part II ruins the momentum of the first half and slowly made me lose interest in the story. It's filled with subplots and characters that don't add anything to the overarching plot and feel more like filler than anything else. And by the time I got to the end of the game I just didn't care anymore. I don't hate this game, but I don't love it either. If you're reviewing the "game" part of TLOU2 then it's a close to perfect score for me. The gameplay is intense and fun, the visuals are unbelievable, the sound design and music are amazing, and everything is just top notch. But I play Naughty Dog games for the story, and for me, this story just taints The Last Of Us storyline for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We should have seen this coming a mile off. Neil Druckmann quoted 'City of Thieves' by David Benioff as the main inspiration for the story - Benioff being one half of the infamous 'D&D' who botched the final season of Game of Thrones so much that one of the defining cultural touch points of a generation was forgotten within weeks and all the planned spinoffs were cancelled by their studios. They even have the nerve to put the book in the game - at one point Abby can be seen reading it when she is woken up. Couple this with Halley Gross being the lead co-writer, known for 'Westworld' which at first showed promise but quickly was exposed to be a whole lot of nothing, so much so that the third season's viewing figures are down a whopping 57% from the previous season.

With this stellar line up of writers there was no realistic chance of a competent story ever being told. In their efforts to to break away from the status quo and 'subvert expectations' what we are presented with is a confusing mess of a story. I don't mind Joel being killed off, but the game establishes no connection with the player and Abby before you're forced to play as her. I was actually enjoying the first half of the game before the character switch - at which point I just lost all motivation to continue. I only completed it on the strength of the first game and the fact I paid £60 for it. I simply didn't care about this character, her back story, or her friends - who you know will die, ruining any kind of suspense or mystery during her playthrough.

Going back in time was a big mistake for me - the story loses all momentum and you feel like you're just trudging along to get back to the scene in the theatre. It felt like a prequel within a game. The constant flashbacks for both charcters also ruined the pacing and overall the story can't hold a candle to the first game - which is a simple linear story through time focusing on the relationship between just two characters. In this game there are upwards of a dozen characters to keep track of and it felt like a TV show adaptation - with little character development for any of them. The overall theme of 'revenge is bad' was done in such a hamfisted way that it made you roll your eyes by the ending. The final act of the game could have been cut completely and the story starts to drag - the game is about 5 hours too long.

Beyond the story the game is a technical masterpiece - the graphics, the gameplay, the audio, the acting, the world building, etc. Unfortunately for the game designers it's the the story which is the bedrock of the game and this falls well short. The story of part 1 is the main reason for the great sales figures for part 2. It's therefore likely that the story of part 2 will be the main reason for the reduced sales figures of part 3.

I have been a vigilant defender of professional game reviewers, finding them to be significantly more in-tune with what the population at large considers "good" and "bad" than the average film critic. I always thought that this had to do with the stigma surrounding gaming; there was never any clout to be had, no influence to be gained or used, no desire to cultivate a certain image, and no desire to be anything other than just a group of people enthusiastic about their chosen hobby/artistic medium. Have games become too big for that now? Are we now going to be subjected to the howling wilderness that is modern film criticism? In the past, I always used professional reviews/metacritic scores as the biggest part (along with my personal taste) of my decision in whether or not to buy a game because I found them to be mostly right on the nose (Demon's Souls was critically acclaimed at launch, well before it became a commercial success). I guess those days are coming to an end now. Expand

The lack of character building, the manipulative way of story writing and suggestive narrative that want to make us love Abby and her crew, despite of the justified choice of Joel in tlou part 1 is mindblowing. The writing and pacing of the story is really poor. To suggestive and one sided. I get the idea behind the other side of things but the way this "revenge story" just comes down to is to basic and non relatable compared to the gameplay. Murdering 100s of soldiers, totally neglecting the zombie apalocalypse, and bringing pregnant ladies to the battlefield while morning over losses on both sides and banding with totally uninteresting Characters just did not do it for me. The gameplay was dragged out and while you spend a lot of time looting and crafting for Items, weapons and ammo, the gameplay tries to psuh you in the direction of stealth. This is so contradicting, and destracting. The flashbacks where the best part of the story but just made it even more all over the place. I was hyped but scared at the same time that this game would go in a direction I would not like. Out of all the options how to continue with the story, they picked the worst one. It's a writer and developer choice but it doesn't make sense in my opinion. Off course the visuals look great, the acting and sounds where impacable and the time spend on detail is amazing. To bad the story and choices characters made where not believable and relatable. I'm dissapointed that the game pushed towards a part 3 and didn't have a conclusion or maybe even an player choice. All and all a game I really wanted to play and I'm happy I did but definitely not half as good as the first one. Expand

    1) I found it easy to become invested in Ellie’s new story, and the connections she has with Dina, Jesse, Tommy & Joel are very believable & down to earth.
    2) I thought the the final showdown between Ellie & Abby was done brilliantly; I never thought that I would be desperately pleading in my head with Ellie not to kill Abby.
    3) The gameplay mechanics are simply a joy to experience. Ellie & Abby feel so grounded and real, and each action carries its own weight that you have to weigh up in tense situations.
    4) The environments are utterly breathtaking. Every direction you look at almost any point in the game presents you with a frame that could easily be mistaken for official artwork. The environmental storytelling and atmosphere is a whole other element of the game to get lost in.
    5) Facial expressions in this game are mind-blowing. These are perhaps the most expressive and emotive characters I have ever seen in a video game.
    6) Character animations do a great job at making you believe that you are interacting with a world of real people; each button press and flick of the analog stick feel weighty and real.
    7) The soundtrack is phenomenal; from moments of tranquility to tense combat, I often found myself taking a moment to appreciate the score.
    8) Ellie’s descent into obsessive rage is an uncomfortable but believable reaction to her experience. She is possibly suffering from PTSD and I think it is refreshing to see the game explore less savoury weaknesses of characters we love without going too far down the “Luke Skywalker Treatment” road. I thought this was a realistic and interesting balance.

    Cons

    1) I really disagree with Naughty Dog’s decision to leave out the fact that you don’t play as Ellie for half of the game. In fact, in previews & reviews it is often said “when you are playing as Ellie...” with never so much as a hint that there are multiple playable characters in the game. The moment you first play as Abby in ‘Seattle Day One’ is not important or profound or an “OMG” surprise, so I feel like it was deceptive to leave this information out of the marketing.
    2) This game introduces lots of new characters and lots of new relationships which feel much shallower than the original. Instead of further exploring the art of developing a small amount of deeply personal relationships, Naughty Dog has clearly made a conscious decision to follow a large amount of shallow relationships, but we don’t spend enough time with them to fully appreciate them.
    3) There were times where I could really “feel” that the game was trying to make me “feel” a certain way, which completely broke the immersion for me. For example; extremely sad & emotional music would play at a certain point during a cutscene at a moment which just felt completely wrong - the beauty of previous Naughty Dog games is that I would experience emotions for characters without even realising. It is sad to see that magic lost at times.
    4) The characters in this game are simply not up to par of what I have come to expect from Naughty Dog. In the past, I have been convinced that they have mastered the art of crafting ‘likeable’ characters, but I felt like a lot of the side characters in Abby’s storyline in particular (and even Abby herself at times) were pretty dull, forgettable and annoying.
    5) I felt like Joel’s death was extremely abrupt, and we were not given enough time to digest what had just happened or even sit with Ellie as she processed what had happened. I feel like the now infamous golf-club-execution scene also lost some of its weight because it wasn’t made 100% clear that Joel had actually died until we see a shot of his gravestone.
    6) The whole story in Seattle was enabled by Tommy seeing a ‘WLF’ badge at some point during Joel’s execution. It felt cheap that we immediately find out who killed Joel and where they live because of some convenient piece of information provided by another character; would it not have added more weight to spend some time with Ellie desperately trying to figure out who did it and tracking them down?
    7) The fact that Dina agreed to join Ellie on her murderous assassin rampage mission to a dangerous city miles from Jackson when she knew that she was pregnant is an example of “The Last Jedi Syndrome”; characters finding themselves in terrible situations not because of circumstance or defeat, but simply because they are stupid.
    8) Abby’s plentiful non-combat “story” missions bored me to tears. They do a good job at filling in some backstory, but they felt like the equivalent of the Walking Dead episode where Daryl and Beth just talk in a cabin for an hour and get attacked at the end - boring and unnecessary.

This was a largely anticipated game for me and although the game play and graphics was 10/10 the writing for this game largely made me disappointed. Although I fully expected Joel to die in this game I think it was poorly handled, with Joel and tommy giving their names up to a complete stranger and then just having the rest of the game to just be a revenge plot just seems to ruin the potential this franchise had.
the whole game feels like it feels that it has much more depth than it actually has, with the "real people are monsters story" and showing how abbey is also a person even though that is already heavily implied in the first scene when Owen saves Tommy and Ellie's life .

    Ground breaking graphics and gameplay
Terrible narrative. Forced SJW stuff isn't really a problem for almost any people playing.

As Neil druckman says, you will not like the characters in the game, of course, it varies from person to person, but there is no concept called bond in the game. Most people may or may not like it, but kill the brave right, no matter what they call this game, six points out of ten. play this game because you will notice two things while playing this game first one is game mechanics,As Neil druckman says, you will not like the characters in the game, of course, it varies from person to person, but there is no concept called bond in the game. Most people may or may not like it, but kill the brave right, no matter what they call this game, six points out of ten. play this game because you will notice two things while playing this game first one is game mechanics, atmoster, game design, sound design and details etc. You will notice how beautiful these things are. No me llego a convencer del todo la historia del juego, creo que pudo tener un mejor giro. En los aspectos visuales y técnicos son muy buenos, pero debieron mejorar en los personajes y cómo iban evolucionando a lo largo de la historia.

Ok, ellie's lesbian we fu***** know it. So, focus on the goddaim story. I enjoined playing with abby and her journey is much way better than ellie's sexuallity journey. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
