    Bruh bruh bruh bruh :D
I liked the game, the graphics are very expressive, the game has had a great ego with violence, I love that the game is like this, a fight between two female characters in which, there is no definition for "protagonist or antagonist" . In any case, people complain about the story, to me, it is not that the story is not to my liking, but there are scenes that are somewhat excessive. I love the game, the graphics are so realistic and everything in general TOO SHOCKING, especially the ending between the Ellie and Abby fight, that feeling of the player when he doesn't know if there is revenge or mercy. Joel's death was the most shocking, angry and sad part of the game. Summary:

The flashbacks did not fit me much, but the emotions and expressions of each scene were too good. This game is literally just as worthy as a movie, it deserved much more when it came to putting the puzzle pieces together a little more. But the history was cool.

-Characters: 9 / 10 I love the characters, and even the supporting characters have a good role in the cutscenes. Most of them are good characters and the actors who star in them are very good at emphasizing and performing their roles as characters. I remember the emotional scene when Ellie realizes that Joel lied to her about the cure and Joel tells her the truth, making the Ellie actress play the role of her getting sentimental and angry at Joel. Although this score could be better
Best characters 4 me: Ellie, Joel, Tommy, Abby and Dina. Dogs too
    The infected are 100% amazing.

    -(The NPC's are okay 8/10)

    Art: 10/10 amazing

    -Narrative: 8/10.

    -Graphics: 10/10 EPIC -
Cutscenes: 7/10 May i said that cutscenes were cool, but in case... meh xd well, the animation and acting were nice. Good job.

    -Music: 9.5 / 10
Knowing that Gustavo Santaolalla makes these great soundtracks ... nothing more. Although the music of the first part of the game is somewhat better. The sequel's music has good vibes and good effect sounds, the songs are great for the game's soundtrack. Loved the design audio.

    Accesibility: 10/10.

-Experience: 9/10 It is as if I were in a movie, a lot of tension and impression, we were all surprised at all times. -Fight: 10/10 It is the best thing that they improved from the TLoU saga, the sequel stands out for the battles and fights that are PERFECT and very well carried out. Those hits, shots, movements, details in battles ... beastly. -My expectation of this game was much more than positive a few months ago, in the trailer there were a couple of XD image tricks, but I was already expecting something like this, that the trailer did not have much to do with the game, many people had thought that Dina would be lost and would die, however we all know that it was poor Joel ... although several of his actions were unethical ... and well, any NPC from the hospital that Joel killed was Abby's father, because Abby he finally finished off Joel with a golf club in front of his stepdaughter Ellie and brother Tommy. This game have got a lot of action and adventure.

-Let Joel rest in peace, and hopefully he meets Sarah that she will be waiting for him ... 8 or 9/10 score, my honestly opinion.

And that's because, THIS IS IMPORTANT = try to beat the demons, I mean, Ellie and Abby are pissed off and very angry inside. So much so that when they think of nothing or dream. It is not about revenge, but about dealing with your negative thoughts.

Ellie: Think of Joel being tortured or looking dead, when she does bad things, it also implies that she gets madder and kills more. In the end she sees Joel with the guitar alive in an image flashback because she already knows that it is not necessary to kill Abby because she has already faced her demons. She doesn't need at the final chapter, the guitar or anything from Joel, she faced the reality and now she lost everything for any cost. In tlou 3, i hope she will be a better person.

Abby: Joel killed her father. She had nightmares every night that she couldn't save her father. She killed Joel, thinking that if she killed him, she would have no more nightmares and ... ERROR, Abby had worse. Later she meets Lev, and since her group of "wolves" do not accept her, Abby will do everything to protect Lev, since Abby loses friends on the way, only Lev will be with her. From there she found someone and had no more nightmares.

Beat Your demons. Do not revenge. You will be better.

Everything it's not black or white, it could be grey.

    A lot of text, right?

Well, i loved this game, even better than june 2020. Now, 2021 i would give a 9.
    Cuz' in 2020 i said 7 or 8
    But now a 9.

Waiting for tlou 2 multiplayer and HBO serie.

Here is my review of The Last of Us Part II, a sequel to The Last of Us released 7 years earlier.

    Game Design:

From a gameplay point of view, we find the solid foundations of the first game improved to provide a more complex experience. Hand-to-hand combat becomes technical, the infiltration phases completely change facets (thanks to the possibility of crawling) and the shooting sequences are always as involved. The game includes many new gameplay mechanics that add to the gaming experience.

The level design is also very good. The levels are now more open (although remaining in a "corridor game") and invite you to explore. You never lose sight of your goal but you easily find yourself going the opposite way to explore all the nooks and crannies of the area and discover what it contains. And there are many things to discover: collectibles, small pieces of narration to trigger, craft resources, etc. ; all without ever getting bored. The presence of puzzles that are neither too hard nor too complex enhance the expertise of Naughty Dog in terms of level design.

    Graphics:

Graphically, the game is of course magnificent. We are close to photorealism and we are sometimes surprised to be "only" in front of a video game as the world created and its details are glaring in realism. The animations of the characters and their reactions according to the actions of the player make them "real".

    Sound Design

Playing is an auditory orgasm, whether for sound effects or voice acting.

As with The Last of Us, the game benefits from the music of Gustavo Santaolalla which, although discreet, is always there when it is needed.

    Scenario (without spoilers)

Naughty Dog has always had great scriptwriting ambitions, and The Last of Us Part 2 proves it once again.

The story is poignant from start to finish, but it is also surprising. For 7 years and the thousands of possible theories concerning this sequel, it would have been difficult to think that the scenario would take such a turn. Do not start the game imagining that you will have the perfect scenario that you had imagined. This will not be the case. Launch the game to have the pleasure of discovering something new.

Prepare to be shocked, intrigued, moved, angry, happy, thoughtful but never disappointed. It is a story which does not spare the player, but which is worth seeing (and played).

    Conclusion:

The Last os Us Part 2 is the worthy successor of the first opus. It even hits harder than its predecessor for the reasons mentioned above. Naughty Dog understood what worked best in The Last of Us and sublimated it in Part II. A unique and rare experience that takes the quality of the video game industry up a notch.

And since it must be given a rating: 9/10 (because no game is and will never be 100% perfect)

I think the biggest criticisms and controversies could've been avoided if naughty dog had changed the formula and allowed for player choice so your story would depend on what you are as a person. Whether you like the story or not definitely depends on your personality and your emotions at the time. However, regardless of if you agree with the character choices this game definitely makes you think about the consequences and the themes explored. It loses a point simply because of the pacing issue near the end. Expand

So lets move on, the new character, Abby well she is a pretty interesting character, her story is pretty interesting and overall how she deals with the lost of all her loved ones (except from Joel), she is a lot like Ellie. She wants revenge at any cost, but only because this little scar girl, she finally sees that revenge will not bring back her loved ones, she can handle her rage and live on. Not like Ellie she destroys everything she loves just because of revenge, and when she relies that, it is already to late, she lost everyone, everything. I think that's a great statement even in real life. Its kinda disgusting that so many of you "FANBOYS/GIRLS" rate this game so much just because Joel died. Life is almost never a happy end, and that game shows that perfectly. As much as we all love Joel, he did terrible things , just like Ellie, they only cared about them selves and their loved ones. And if i read this bad reviews it pretty clear that their are almost no reasons explained why the game is "that bad", most of this bad reviews just say "the story is **** yes well but why is it **** and "the game is horrible" but why is it horrible. This kinda Fanboys/girls are no fans of this series from my point of view, they just wanted a "Last of Us" where Joel and Ellie survive together, maybe a new doc who can make a vaccine but gets killed....., i think u guys know what i mean. The game was a success, the developer tried something risky and i love that. Many characters died in this game but i think that's kinda normal in post apocalyptic world with zombies all over the place. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not terrible. People bombing it because the writers/creators didn't do what the audience wanted. Leaks aside, we all knew it was something to do with Joel. Or Dina. Or Tommy even. It has amazing visuals, music and gameplay. Stays true to the original and somehow makes it feel new. It is a long game. Especially if you're going for 100%. I think I felt the length of this game because it's not that open world. I put 80 hours or so into RDR2 and it didn't feel like it.
As a gay person, I did like the representation. Everyone complaining about the gay "pandering" needs help. There is no lack of straight people so I don't know why they're mad. Unfortunately you do have to play as Abby. I get what they're doing. You have to see how Joel's choice affected other people. You never stop and think about who he actually killed. Did that doctor have a family? Was he someone's father, husband? The end is bittersweet. It's open to interpretation. They cycle stopped when she let Abby go with Lev and she just let go of everything. No heros, no villains. Nobody wins in this world. I chose to believe Ellie heads for Jackson to get Dina back and finally move on.

I found the story to be well written, shocking, and emotional, with an EXTREMELY satisfying and mature conclusion that provides an excellent character arc for Ellie's story. As for the gameplay, I found it to be extremely rewarding and fun, with some of the best stealth combat I have seen for a very long time. Graphically, the game is stunning, with every single environment being gorgeous to look at, and at times, almost photo-realistic.

My problems with the game were very few. Only experiencing one or two full on glitches throughout the game (clipping into walls), one or two seemingly broken tree textures, and a couple of wonky hit boxes on trees and fences blocking shots that should have hit. Were I to be forced to criticise the story, my only real suggestion would be to move some of the flashback sequences to the start of the game to provide some players a more streamlined bridge between the first and second games, and slightly more closure, although personally, I didn't find any fault with the ordering of the game.

Overall, I think The Last of Us 2 is a brilliant game with an extremely satisfying story, interesting characters, fun and rewarding gameplay, and absolutely stunning graphics. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

The people who are upset i would say it is somewhat justified and i can understand, however this game really does not deserve the hate it gets in my opinion. Many people seem to be upset about Joel's death. I was too. He dies very early on and I feel he deserved better. However Joel was a bad man, who did many bad things in the first game alone, let alone what took place in the 20 years between the prologue and the main game itself. To put it bluntly, he kinda had it coming.

The graphics were amazing. Even on the base PS4 i was stunned at how good it looked. Nothing much more to say about that.

With the story, It felt very strange to play as Ellie for so long and then suddenly go back to the start of Seattle from Abby's POV. Not saying i didn't enjoy it or anything, I very much enjoyed seeing the events from her point of view and learning more about her. Also, she's jacked to all hell and that's a plus in my book.

Ellie and Dina's relationship is good. It is not **** lesbianism. They feel like a real couple who care deeply for each other

I cannot speak for trans people, however imo it seems they handled the trans character very well. It is very clear they are a real person with hopes and dreams and not an empty plot point. The only time he is deadnamed is a couple times by enemies that usually die very shortly after, and i think once by his mother. He is never deadnamed by any one of the main characters and everyone is completely fine with it, that being said however, he suffers-

Everyone suffers, this game is not at all happy at all. There are not many laughs to be had, this game is sad as **** The enemies have names and that includes dogs, and people care when their friend dies. No game has come close to making me cry as many times as i did while playing this. I finished it about a week ago and i still feel depressed from the game, if you don't like the idea of being sad all the time i would not recommend getting it, atleast not yet

The gameplay was unreal, the movement felt fluid yet clumsy and realistic, and combat is unrivaled. Without auto aim turned on i felt very anxious when trying to get shots off but every time an enemy rounded the corner and I immediately aimed and popped them in the head i can't accurately describe how odd it felt. Reminds me of a part in TLOU 1 when Ellie saves Joel and says "Damn I shot the hell outta that guy huh?"

Would and will play again after i mentally recover lmao. It honestly amazes me that a video game could make me feel the way this one did and i don't think another game will even come close. The only reason i'm not giving it a 10/10 is because nothing is ever perfect. This game is fantastic, it has flaws, and i hated that Joel died after 3 mins of screen time and i don't think even the flashbacks can redeem that. But this game is far better than most people are making it out to be. Game of the Year in my opinion

The gameplay is fantastic, and the story was extremely immersive. The ending and game as a whole had me on an emotional rollercoaster for a week, and I absolutely love it. The game is meant to get you angry at Abby but then show the other side of the story. Joel was a good person; who has done awful things. Joel's death was justified as he killed Abby's father and so many more innocent people. The only complaint I have is how Naughty Dog advertised the game as something it wasn't, which is a Joel & Ellie adventure. The game was great! It had probably the best graphics and attention to detail I’ve ever seen in a game. Not to mention the gameplay was fun and tense even on lower difficulties. Lastly the story was great and an emotional roller coaster. I however wouldn’t play if you aren’t opened minded

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game wasnt perfect but it was not far off from the feel of the first one. The game play especially was that same feel with a little more challenge to it. The sections do get repetitive and predictable by the time your a good 10 hours in but it's still fun.

Peoples main complaints seem to come from an attachment to the death of Joel, which definitely made me angry at first, but I assume that was the whole point. Maybe they could have done a better job of making Abby likable but truly by the end of her 10 hours I was invested and the clash with Ellie really made me upset that my two characters were now fighting. People seems to also not understand the Ellie story at all, she was a kid that grew up deeply troubled by what Joel did for her and she is wracked with guilt for even being alive. Her getting revenge was her way of making Joel's mistake mean something to herself on top of just being plain revenge. The fact that she couldn't do it at the end was a final release (we hope) of that guilt she carried around for years. And that is exemplified by the final flashback where she was finally ready to start trying to forgive Joel for what he did. If people cant see the catharsis there and not understand why she did what she did its not bad writing, it's bad understanding of human emotions and behaviors. Everything she did made sense, minus some plots hole the story was relatively tight.

The guilt from killing each member did not make much sense however and even if I can justify the pregnant one and the one she tortured I still feel like this part of the story was weakest and made the least amount of sense, shes killed so many people before why freak out now?

Anyways this game did not deserve the user score it received and is a beautiful sequel to a wonderful franchise. If they do another one after it I truly would hope they focus souly on Ellie though as the Abby character doesn't leave a lasting impression and at this point I only want to see Ellies fall from grace or her rise to the top, we have seen her grow up and her traumatized time for an end game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game epitomizes what the “The Last of Us” franchise is all about. It’s against the grain, and it’s designed to make you uncomfortable. There are no heroes (if you thought Joel was one, you’re delusional), only survivors with checkered pasts.

The characters and relationships are what drive this series. Even those new additions with little to no backstory, like Dina and Jessie. They did an incredible job making every character seem deeply human and complex, which has always been a strength of their’s. The story itself was so real. Naughty Dog created something that we can connect to as human beings. The moral battles they force us to fight are equal parts excruciating and exciting. And it’s mentally exhausting, in the best way possible. Put yourself in Abby’s shoes and tell me you wouldn’t do the same to Joel. Ditto with Ellie and the masses of WLF soldiers she slaughtered. They both had their reasons, and we’re not allowed to judge one without judging the other.

This was an emotional experience. One with far fewer ups than downs. But it was hauntingly beautiful.

If you wanted a happy ending, you learned nothing from the first game.

Gameplay is both fun and extremely tense all through out, and its story is compelling once you take the time to really pay attention and analyze all it's little details. And if you are into cinema, you surely will appreciate all the hard work put into crafting it's scenes, as these show some of the best acting and directing ever put on a videogame, as well as a beautiful (and depressing) world.

It is definetely not for everyone, as some of the risks it takes don't really work out in the end (also, one could definetely tell it's maker's political views while playing the game, which could make the experience less enjoyable if you don't agree with these views) . Still, don't let all the online hate and tired, old memes stop you from trying out an awesome game (some people do have their legit reasons to dislike it, but most seem to just be sheeps riding the hate-wagon).

I enjoyed playing as Abby and found her story as captivating as Ellie’s. The symmetry and poetry between the twos stories was heart wrenching. In Haven the entire sequence on horse back had me crying and my palms sweating.

While mentioning crying I can’t NOT talk about THAT scene. My breath was held the entire time and I could barely see it all through my tears. It was absolutely heartbreaking and I need to commend Ellie’s voiceactress as she did a superb job. I feel that the ending to the game for me was very lacklustre. Everyone was able to find some peace and instead of learning from the vicious cycle of revenge, pain, revenge, pain the story was showing; Ellie leaves her family only to attack Abby at her lowest and then no go through with it??? It felt.... shallow and like it missed the mark. Though I appreciated that they explored actual consequences for actions for Ellie. Overall the game was stunning and the story was gut wrenching, but missed some marks here and there. 9/10

In part 1. Joel (the protagonist) made a terrible choice and in this part he is going to pay the price. If you see this as a spoiler, maybe it's best to left the game for what it is. I see in the reviews a negativity about the story where you can conclude that everybody thought that Joel was a perfect protector of Ellie. if you played the last half hour of the game, you know he isn't.

The game desperately wants you to realize that everyone has ups and downs. Ellie is the biggest example. Although she was an innocent child in part 1. She is not the little girl anymore in this game. She is wounded in part 1 and she takes it with her in this game.

I have only one negative point in my review. It's a playstation exclusive. With other words. If you want to play the game and you don't have a playstation, they force you to buy one. Ten years ago this could be fine, but not anymore. In my opinion there is no excuse to make exclusives to one platform which are valid and so it's a 9 instead of a 10.

What I found is that The Last of Us Part 2 will be a game that I will remember because of its impact on me. I think about it all the time, I can't stop! Very few games stick with me after getting through the credits but this game has rewritten what a videogame and a story can be. Playing through this there were moments like Ellie's cover of 'Take on me' and the ending fight between Abby and Ellie that were some of the greatest moments I have ever experienced in a videogame. This game tells a story of revenge, Abby's revenge story shows the effects as she loses everyone close to her while you see Ellie directly go through it during the game. The game to me is about breaking this cycle and truly finding a purpose, that was the true goal that was achieved in the end. While I can't directly express my thoughts into words I just want to share my experience and while it wasn't perfect I can happily say it was a game I won't forget but rather a memory I hope will never fade. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its clear that many of these reviews are false. You cant rate a game on day 1 without having played it, which is silly.

My take on The Last of Us Part 2. The game is brutal and unforgiving which shows how revenge can destroy both parties. The characters are all broken by their experiences which makes the games softer moments all the better. You find yourself looking at it from a skewed perspective for a time only to have the carpet firmly pulled out from under you, taking you out your comfort zone. The characters are well envisioned and written great. You understand their motivatilns whether or not you agree with them. Their justifications for horrific actions is purely to satisfy the guilt they feel. However, the realisation that they are slowly turning into monsters sets in and perhaps this can be seen as a redemption. I am reminded of Game of Thrones to a degree. Jame Lannister was reviled for his actions. Yet, in the later story, he realises the he had been manipulated by Cersei and wished to make amends of sorts. When I began playing as Abby, this is what came to mind. I felt thatI realised that, regardless of her actions, we hd no understanding of her motivations. Ellie cannot see past the death of Joel and neither Abby nor the rest of her crew explain why they sought revenge. And for that, Ellie is driven to chase them down and kill them for their transgression. I applaud Naughty Dog for taking risks and making something that is not another paint by numbers sequel you see so often today.

The acting is great I don't think one person in the whole game felt lifeless. Even the nameless soldiers who seem to be everywhere have personalities which make them more than just cannon fodder. The relationships that each character has feels real and this is only improved by the amazing performances. Ellie and Dina's budding relationship is turbulent and not without grief. But what relationship in the apocalypse is going to be perfect? I love that Ashely Johnson and Sgabnon Woodward seemed so natural that it was realistic and not forced in any way. Is the story original? No its not. Revenge tales are 10 a penny. But, the originality notwithstanding, the story has been told well and didnt leave anything to the imagination.

However, i am not without some gripes. I feel that the story rushed a little at the start. I wasn't really able to enjoy some time with adult Ellie before everything went to hell. Similarly I feel that this is the story best left to the third game in the series, but I cannot fault Naughty Dog for going the direction they did. Gameplaywise, there is little difference. While this is not necessarily bad I felt that perhaps changing up the gameplay a bit more would have been a good idea. There is little innovation to speak of here. All in all The Last of Us Part 2 is a brutal and emotional journey that explores the nature of revenge and its effects on those around you. With only a small amount of gripes I feel that this is a great way for Naughty Dog to close off this generation.

You play as a character who killed the protagonist of the first part. You just hate yourself. And it takes a living to play. It was necessary to fix up so that we played for Abby only at the beginning of the game. Just to show who she is and what she wants. I know that in the second half of the game they wanted to show Abby as a character, so that we penetrate her by the end of the game, but Naughty Dog did not succeed. Everyone criticizes the fact that Joel did not die “heroically”. So this is the meaning of the game, to show that in this cruel world not everyone dies heroically and that not everything always goes according to plan. Expand

It shows that Ellie would do exactly the same thing Joel did for her in part I. In the end, Ellie also let Abby live, and I found that exciting. I was already sad to think Abby was going to die.

Still, what an incredible game. It made me like the person, Abby, who killed Joel, the protagonist of part I. He showed me that everyone has their reasons and their points of view.

I also liked Abby and how she saved Lev, and started to care for him as if it were his family.

Still, even though Ellie killed Owen, who Abby loved, she let Ellie live, which was noble of her. Thankfully, Ellie was also touched at the end and left behind the feeling of revenge.

My only negative criticism is the ease of the game. I played at the maximum difficulty level, survival, and even then I didn't find the game difficult. Thats the only reason for i dont give maximum rating.

It is not necessarily what I had hoped for or expected but that was part of the joy (and many other emotions) of the experience. As others have mentioned, it isn’t perfect. I personally found certain sections in the middle of the game particularly to be meandering without true purpose and some characters to be over focused on and under developed. These are however minor negative points in the context of what I experienced whilst playing this game. Different to the original, but for me, just as brilliant. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game bring you doubt, rage, sadness and uncontables feelings. When u are in combat u feel fear, anxiety, adrenaline and everytime u kill someone you feel a little bit of the wish of revenge being sated . the player expect that u gonna kill the antagonist will feel yourself good and the game will be over but the game extends making you play with the antagonist, some players just want to go fast by the disgust thtat we have with she but after u see his side their love one each other u start to get empathy. The game makes the antagonist pass by everything what joel pass on TLOU 1 like a divine punishment and the player see that if ellie doesn`t go in search of revenge probably Abby would be killed tryng to protect Lev in the same way that Joel died trying to protect Ellie by she, showing up that everything we do here we pay here and go after revenge would make you just lose all u have here, searching for what the life gonna already make your hated one suffer. Ellie killing friends of Abby just make herself "killing" his friends, and all Abby will pass with Lev will happen irrespective if ellie go after Abby or not, this is the moral of the game, and if Abby kill Ellie in the end of the chapter (4 day in Seatlle, Abby) she will probably would by killed by the rattlesnakes cause ellie go after she showing up that if u save someone you will be saved, if you kill someone you will lose someone.
the politicians things on the game make some people like or dislike from the point of view political of the individual geeting off the mutuality from the game cause some people doesn`t rate the game by the moral lesson and yes by their owns political views, the low rate from users just show how ignorant the world is.
in the end of the game the player fell empty cause all the rage he have by Abby the empathy fill up, this is a feeling that i never feel in my life, the empty. the ending fight against abby when ellie is almost killing she and let she go show to us that ellie just want to prove herself that she can revenge joel but if she kill her would´n make any difference in his life but will just harm the life of Lev, a innocent child, just she proving herself that she can revenge Joel already help she win the post traumatic stress

    The negative points

gameplay: cause the fact that the game is almost open world, exploring becomes sickening as the game goes on and u feel tired out, thing that i don`t feel playing TLOU 1 .
resolution: is extremely beautiful the resolution of the game, the bad part is the play 4 make a lot of noise, in game i just saw only one drop of frames.
history: the bad part is when Abby almost kill ellie and dina and go out and show the life of ellie and dina on the farm, the player lose the empashis to go kill Abby but the game force you to go after she. Looks like a continuation of a conclusion and every people know when u write a script u can`t write more after finish the conclusion this get more real showing that our lifes is not a script and bringing reality to the game but this is unpleasent.

It is a game about trauma and loss and amongst all of these heavy themes the game manages to find moments of light and levity that balances out a lot of the dark subject matters the game deals with. Overall it is a must play and is a game that will stay with you for a long time. Expand

I know a lot of people have problems with this game but for me and a lot of other people this game was amazing, story and all. I loved Abby and all the new characters except for Owen he felt weird. Joel's death was brutal and done really early and of course his death could have been done in a better way but for me it was realistic and made me want to kill Abby. And after seeing Abby's story it made me feel bad for her and i ended up loving her character and Laura Bailey really helped. Now I love Joel's character but i hope people realize he was a piece of **** and everything he did in the first game was selfish because he wanted a his daughter back and kill dozens of people who were trying to find the cure just because he couldn't let Ellie go. Now like Tommy said i cant say i would have done any different but that doesnt make Joel a saint and i think that Abby had a very good reason to do what she did and knowing that i wasnt as mad about how Joel died once i beat the game and reflecting on it, it was a very **** good game. The only reason its not a 10/10 for me is because of some bugs that are noticeable but not super game breaking for me at least and some of the writing was a little weird like when Abby said "You are my family" to Lev, I thought that was a little off and also the Abby sex scene felt out of nowhere and a little unnecessary and was just there to add drama. But everything else was heartbreaking and emotional in the best way possible and Im looking forward to a third one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished the game now and I just have to say that I loved it.

    Technical:
This game is beautiful in every sense. The models, textures, sound and animations are all masterfully done. The character animation in particular, how you character interacts with the world and the fluid blending of animations together the art team here deserves so much praise. It is the little things when it comes to this all of the attention to detail in the small secondary animations, Ellie's bag gently swaying as she runs along, putting her hand on a wall when she is next to it, using her left hand to loot when the right is busy interacting with something else. It's these small touches that just ground the character in the environment and just make things look so much more natural. The top notch character modeling, texturing and primary animation definitely helps too. The mo-capped cutscenes are out of this world as well so natural and life like especially the facial animation which is so easy to get wrong, I think I'd need far more than 5000 characters to truly convey how amazingly this game is textured, modeled and animated.

Now lets just talk about enemies for a bit. Your enemies aren't just enemies they have some humanity about them which is done through masterful use of sound and animation. From them calling out their friends name in horror after you've shot them, to your enemy begging you not to kill them when you grab them from behind to the struggling and as the hope and life fades from their beautifully animated faces. I played this game killing as few humans as possible because I just felt awful every time I had to do it and no other game has ever made me feel like that about rank and file enemies.

This game feels visceral, gritty and uncomfortable to play (in the best way possible) and everything feeds into that from the sound design, the animations and the gameplay.

There were some definite sections that felt a little drawn out and there were some points I wanted another way to deal with problems other than violence. One section jumps to mind where I encountered some WLF deserters in a hotel and one of them tried to attack me thinking I was sent to kill them so I took one of them hostage and stood there almost waiting for Ellie to say something but after a while just realized that there was no way to end this encounter without just murdering them all. Which I get it, it's not that kind of game but still it just kind of felt like the game was limiting me in the way I wanted to solve the situation. But for the most part your actions in game make sense with the way the narrative is being told.

No game is perfect (hence the 9) and there are going to be poor moments and better ones but I assure you that the good moments and the moments where everything just makes sense far outweigh the bad ones.

    Story:
There are a lot of complaints here about story and I just have to say I don't get them. At the start you're presented with a villain and a classic revenge story. As the story goes on you see the lengths that Ellie goes through in a series of sequences that left me feeling genuinely uncomfortable at some points. Then it all gets flipped on it's head and as you play as Abby you grow attached to the characters you just spent the first 10+ hours doing anything in your power to kill. You see the WLF as a community trying to survive rather than the brutal revolutionary group that you were facing as Ellie. Then when you see the two of them facing off I actually didn't want to see harm come to either of them.

The game almost tells two stories back to back, the revenge story in the present day and Ellie and Joels relationship as Ellie grows up after the last game through flashbacks. These two stories seem to mimic each other as the game goes on with the confrontation about the events of the first game coming at the height of the revenge story, both stories are at the point of "There can be no forgiveness" both for Abby and for Joel. We see the toll that revenge takes on Ellie as the game goes on, both physically and mentally, she is beaten, cut, bruised and bitten but keeps going, she loses people dear to her and keeps going and when she finally gets out and gets the farm life that her and Dina dreamed of she is still consumed with the need for revenge and just goes back. Then in the final scenes we see her save Abby from the Rattlers and then try one more time to get her revenge but gets a flashback to the night where she told Joel she will try to forgive him and similarly she lets Abby go and seems to try and forgive her too.

This is a story about revenge the lengths someone will go to for it, the damage it will do and how revenge begets more revenge begets more revenge. But most importantly it's a story about forgiveness and how it can be the hardest thing of all to do. Everyone has their own side of the story there is no good here, no evil, just different perspectives

The graphics, gameplay, animation, and acting alone gives this game a 6/10 in my opinion. Adding on a story that has minor flaws, but overall is pretty great, gives it a 9/10 for me. Its ambitious and more of an art than the typical “beat-em-up”/“shoot-em-down” game. It asks us to drop our typical and satisfying “f*ck up the bad guys” mentality and instead think about the effect those actions would have on an actual human being. I like this realisric change in pace, however I understand it’s not for everyone. Some people want to just enjoy a brainless game. I enjoyed this game for being deeper than that. The writers of this game didn’t treat our characters like simple murder machines, but people who have consequences for their actions physically, mentally, and socially.

Go in with an open mind and give this game a shot. It is definitely worth a buy and definitely worth your time. Even if its to be apart of this wild conversation amongst gamers.

Though the game was set on revenge...it really wasn't at all about revenge, but the suffering that both Ellie and Abby have gone through, and forgiveness. The ending shows that forgiveness is the only thing that really makes you human if you understand that it isn't just ellie who suffers from the death of Joel. Abby lost her father too, and yes killing Joel is horrible and the only thing Abby was set out to do is avenge her father, but Ellie did the same thing right after Abby killed her own father figure.Throughout the game you see their pasts and understand that survival is hard but forgiveness is even harder. I'm going to preface this with the fact that I'm a big fan of the original and that I don't agree with almost all of the backlash this game has gotten.

I'm going to preface this with the fact that I'm a big fan of the original and that I don't agree with almost all of the backlash this game has gotten.

GAMEPLAY: If you enjoyed the gameplay of the original you will definitely enjoy it in this game. Combat feels visceral and tense. Weapon variety is excellent and there are many ways to handle combat situations without feeling like too many. The stealth mechanics work well and don't feel as tedious as in some other games. Being found out by an enemy isn't the end of the world and if you are quick and clever you can go back to hiding. (NOTE* I played on normal difficulty and found that in some cases I had more crafting supplies then I needed. If you are experienced with this style of game and are looking for a challenge you may want to bump up the difficulty level)

ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere was incredibly well done. Individual chapters each feel unique and have their own style to them. Everything from visual cues and sound really help to immerse you in this treacherous world you are exploring. Trying to sneak up on a clicker in a dark room is just as tense and controller gripping as it was in the first game.(also I know graphics aren't everything but man is this game stunning to look at.

ENEMIES: Enemies are well done both infected and human. There is enough variety in the infected that they are interesting and difficult to encounter. The human enemies also feel a lot more genuine and seem to have more human-like reactions then I have seen in any third-person-shooter.

COLLECTIBLES: I don't normally enjoy collectibles in games but I actual found myself actively hunting them out here and getting a rush each time I found one. At least for the first half, I didn't have the same excitement for the second half of the game.

STORY: As I said I am a big fan of the first game and I think that the story felt like a natural and well done continuation of character arcs and themes from the first game. When new characters were introduced I found myself hesitating a bit to warm up to them due to certain story moments but as I spent more time with them and they revealed more about themselves I began to see them as more well rounded and those character arcs were something I really admired by the end of the game.

I found the themes of the perpetual cycle of violence and how the "othering" of our fellow man not only dehumanizes them but also dehumanizes us to be really clear and powerful throughout the game.

CRITIQUES: While I largely enjoyed most of this game I do have some criticisms. It feels like sometimes the "gut punch" moments of the story are stacked a little too much to the point where they begin to lose some of their impact and you begin to numb to the pain of the characters. This is especially true with the amount of physical punishment that gets dished out.

A moment at the end of the game felt a bit awkward and while I don't wish they had changed the ending I wish they would have changed how the ending came about to make it fit more with the established character arcs and themes.

This is more subjective but as I noted I never really felt like I was low on equipment past the early game which I think would have helped with tension of the game if resources had been harder to find.

Also a gameplay transition in the middle of the game felt a bit jarring and perhaps could have been handled a bit differently.

Overall I really enjoyed my experience with TLoU2 and it was a game I would think about afterwards and a gameplay loop I was excited to jump back into when I wasn't playing. If you were a fan of the original and are open to the idea of it's gamplay and themes being carried by new characters I would definitely recommend it.
