It is not the story itself that makes people dislike this game. It is how the story is told and how the writers and designers lead you through it that makes people feel sick. It is not about difference and not about doing the unexpected. It is about the condescending attitude you can easily feel from the writers.

Gameplay is quite average, it's kinda like walking simulator with some fights (stealth was kinda fun especially in Seattle day 2 which was the game's strongest point). So if the gameplay is not that amazing and fun that means the game is more about the story. Well the story was a nice idea but jumbled up and badly executed and dragged out which hurt the pacing a lot. It's cool that they have big characters as a gay couple that way Ellie had something to care for. But every character had some sort of a political view which was annoying. Basically rating it on the overall enjoyment i can't say i enjoyed it but there are moments that made the score a tad bit higher (flashbacks and such. And the Joel line where he says he'd do it all over again if he had the chance). I played part one for the first time just a few months before part 2 came out so I'm not angry because i didn't wait 7 years. If i were to rate the game on the first 10 hours i would've rated it a 6 but like 1-2h into Abby's part it became incredibly boring. I knew already that I'd find Owen and Mel dead and just to get to that point it took quite a bit of time. Abby's journey to find her friends dead is irrelevant only the outcome is important her part should've been like 3 hours long at most.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When making TLOU2 it seems like the developers wanted to push an agenda before making a great game.

The plot armor Ellie, Dina, and Abby get takes all the tension out of the game. Also whenever they get into a stressful situation their responses everytime are “oh **** oh **** mixed with some heavy breathing. The story is garbage. It is also manipulative. This game does nothing but spit on Joel, Tommy, and Ellie. While on the flip side it promotes Abby and Lev. This game isn’t a game about Ellie and Joel. This game is a game about Abby and Lev. The motivations and reasoning for Abby to kill Joel, is narratively weak. An NPC with 15 seconds of screen time in TLOU1 is the whole reason for Abby’s existence. Weak. Also everything Ellie does is bad. Ellie has to kill a dog, her horse dies, she kills a pregnant lady, her fingers are but off so she can’t play Joel’s song anymore. Where as Abby her horse lives, she never has to kill a dog, she spares the pregnant lady, and during her fight with the big Scar in Haven she puts her hands in the dudes mouth and guess what? She DOESNT get her fingers bitten off. Ellie and Joel and Tommy have everything bad happen to them and Abby loses nothing in this game. In fact Abby’s story is nothing but a beat for beat rip off of TLOU1 from the story moments to the gameplay moments. This game also has characters acting out of character. Also it totally undercuts everything that was set up in TLOU1. Ellie wanting to die in the firefly hospital is not true. Ellie wanted to help with a cure but didn’t want to die. In fact she wanted to leave with Joe afterwards and go to Jackson. She was also afraid that the tests were going to hurt her. Also Joel and Tommy act nothing like they did in TLOU1. Survivors for over 25 years and now all of a sudden they lose their instincts. This game was never about Ellie and Joel. Even the main menus are related to Abby. The developers pushed an agenda. They dismantled the father-daughter bond from the first game to push a lesbian relationship that had no back story to it other than one kiss the night before Joel died, Ellie and Dina conversations sound like nothing but shallow snarky remarks all the time and nothing real except for forced “I love you” every now and then. They also turned Ellie and Joel’s bond from the first game and note for note gave that story to Abby and Lev. So now Abby is the “Joel” cause she’s the jacked strong one and the Asian Transgendered Lev is the “Ellie”

This game is manipulative, narratively weak, and agenda pushing. The only good thing is the graphics. The gameplay is also the EXACT SAME AS TLOU1. In my opinion had the develops chosen to just go a different direction, make a game about Abby and Lev while not involving Joel and Ellie at all would have been a better choice. Like True Detective on HBO TLOU could tel stand alone stories. Instead Naughty Dog and Druckmann used the Fans love of Ellie and Joel to sell and game that had little to do with them and did nothing but tear them down. They falsely marketed the game and cries foul when the leaks exposing the game were released. The leaks were the best thing to happen because it exposed all the lies Naughty Dog told. There is nothing wrong with taking a game in a different direction then what fans want, but then don’t lie to them and expect someone to pay $60 or more for a game that is different then what you said you were selling.

In the end this game is nothing but a leftist agenda made to appease a vocal minority rather than the majority that actually buys games. This game was used to push an agenda and then discredit people’s opinions that say they don’t like the game to call them bigots. (Which is something they ACTUALLY DO IN THE ACTUAL GAME)

Notice how there are no more talk of how well TLOU2 sold? It’s because it’s not selling. Stuff like this needs to not happen in video games. Overrated game and overall weak. 4/10

100/10 Expand

This was a huge disservice to all the characters from the first game.

Still, I actually had many moments where I smiled during all those adorable flashbacks of Ellie and Joel and wished that those moments would have been more abundant throughout the entire game. I had moments where I actually cried, more so than I’d like to admit, because I had to watch one of my favorite characters get beaten & tortured because he and tommy let there guard down at the WORST moment ever. Even though it was gut wrenching, I must admit that I somewhat commend naughty dog for being able to make me feel that kind of emotion. No I don’t agree with it and the way + time it happened and that’s my main gripe.

The story is what conflicted with me the whole damn game. I actually loved Dina as a character and the relationship her and Ellie have I could relate to because of the there age. Yet, I couldn’t stand as you go deeper into the game as Ellie (day 2 and 3 of Seattle) you watch her become this cold, dark person obsessed with revenge. Naughty dog, I understand you wanted to make this game central around revenge...but for the love of god... the amount of damn characters you killed off due to “revenge” is pathetic and I would have flipped if Abby killed Tommy as well in the theatre. Playing as Abby, honestly, I don’t know how I feel still. I didn’t despise it as much as a lot of other people did. I actually even enjoyed getting to know her crew and see that they are just trying to survive as well. Yet, I always felt this annoying “why can’t I just continue to play as Ellie...you know...the character we all believed was a huge part of the game” and that leads to my final point.

Screw the living crap out of the marketing. Screw you naughty dog for lying to all of us and to you Sony for allowing them and yourself to do that. Now I did HIGHLY enjoy the combat and all the improvements that were made to it. It felt satisfying, brutal, and rewarding especially when sniping people with your bow. Presentation was amazing. I loved yara and lev and cheered for them to survive as long as possible. Honestly there were points I really loved the story and some of its wholesome moments. It’s just there are holes, glaring holes that smack you in the face and make you ask why.

Many people may ask why I even gave it a 7 due to the political crap it pushed and to that, I honestly can only say I tried being as open as possible. I also was mixed on the story, even though I mainly listed negatives as I feel they need to be known, so it also had that. This is no where near the original, however, as I played that game for over 100+ hours and never got sick of it. Naughty dog, if you for some reason make a third one, take some advice from us fans that loved the first game and wanted this one to succeed so badly. Don’t load your game with politically motivated crap and maybe, just maybe, don’t kill off one of the best characters a company has ever made. (Yes I know that mean killing of Ellie at that point since they already messed up with Joel and then I’d just be laughing at that point because I’d join in dumping a fat zero on the game).

The graphics are impressive, perhaps even better than we might see with the next generation of games. The gameplay is somewhat more dinamic, with interesting combos and many variations of execution, and the same goes for the locations, giving the player the feeling that the same goal can be achieve in a dozen different ways.

The story is complicated to judge, precisely because the reason of that which I disliked is not something that can be objectively defended. The plot is complicated at times to understand, as we transition from the protagonists quite a few times, and yet that same concept also contributes for the game to push the player away from that feeling of familiarity players often acquire after ending a game with a sole character.

The story consists on a mix of what was to be expected from the first game if the worst could happen precisely at the right moment, resulting in the death of one of the franchise's most beloved character. At the same time the road in which the player is led ultimately ends in an extremely unsatisfying manner, as we see our beloved character beaten, cut, bruised, frustrated, filled with grief, struggling with some form of PTSD, and still losing her last trace of a family.

This ending is particularly unsatisfying considering the silver lining, if there is one, is shockingly nonequivalent to all the bad things the game shows. In the end, the player is taught two things:

    1) The pursuit of revenge might lead you worse than where you were;
    2) Joel would not want her to do it.

But the issue is that both of those facts are obvious, which contribute deeply to empty the ending of any shock or satisfaction whatsoever.

And this is a fundamental flaw in the writing, as a mere inversion of scenes would have rendered a completely distinct feeling, something akin to a bitter sweet ending. Instead, Ellie gave up on such a precious life to have, especially in a post apocalyptic world, to seek said peace (when it is really just revenge, as far as the game is able to convey).

One can argue that the story is not bad solely because the ending is not satisfying, or that the ending is indeed satisfying, but these two points do not seem to hold, as it either dismisses the idea that the ending of a story is not important, which is absurd, or it reveals an odd pleasure to see a character so loved to end so empty and scarred. One can also say that at the least Ellie left this journey more mature, which is a valid point, but one must also ask this: at what cost, and does that mean the story ends well?

In such a decayed world, the best direction to head would be the opposite, that is, to show that even in darkness there can be light, and even in disadvantage the innocence and purity of a love between father and daughter can triumph, even when he was brutally murdered and she sought, for a while, a path of revenge.

Unless, that is, the creators decided to make a bold move, which is praiseworthy...as long as it gets the landing right, otherwise it is just a stumble.

Unfortunately this a complicated review to make, precisely because it became so divisive and problems can be found on both sides of the reviews. If on one hand prejudice and idiotic criticism contributed to such a negative view of those who did not like the game, it seems fans who loved the first game are willing to ignore any shortcomings of this story. But the truth is that, this game is far from perfect, just as much as it is far from ratings so often spotted on this platform (anything bellow a 4 is rather questionable, to say the least).

Finally, the game has ups and downs, although it personally felt like a disaster. It is not because it is poorly designed, but solely because the story did not do Ellie's character justice exactly at the most important part of the story, which is the ending. And although this might seem like a small detail, it is not, especially in story driven games such as this one.

I knew about the leaks before I played the first game. I played the first game at least five times before picking the second one, and I can say with moral honesty that I do not know if I will ever play The Last of Us Part II ever again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finally got around to finishing the game about a month after its release and I made sure to stay offline and avoid all spoilers. I was truly surprised to find such negative and hateful user reviews online. I thought the game was beautiful.

My one gripe is the major halt in the story when you switch characters mid-game. I feel like there could have been a better way to structure the pacing there, that was very jarring. But these negative reviews saying a "political agenda is being pushed" or that there is blatant disrespect to established characters. None of this is true.

If you got to the end of the game and were unable to see that literally every character is the villain in someone else's story, you missed so many points. If you're a hateful person and you think the fact that there is a trans character or gay characters means there's an agenda being pushed on you, grow the hell up. I feel sorry that you're THAT insecure to think someone is forcing an agenda on you. This game simply shows the humanity in every character, shows our own personal biases (some more so than others, clearly). I hated Abby at first, but the more I got to know her and her story and her OWN personal tragedies I realized Joel was the villain in her story. She was driven by the same rage and obsession than Ellie was later driven by. It's disheartening that so many people missed the point, simply because one of their favorite characters died. Sometimes the Ned Stark character dies, everybody. Play the game, decide for yourself. Don't be swayed by online incels and bigots.

I have already finish The game and I really enjoy it, it’s something different because you don’t expect a lot of things that happens in here like Joel’s dead or like Ellie don’t kill Abby but at the end you understand the message that the game gives to you, maybe it’s a cliche but that leaves you saying, damn Ellie lost everything because she don’t leave the idea to take revenge until she understands that the best it’s to leave everything that happened before because Joel’s not coming back, we appreciate him because we knew him for a while but he is not a good guy, the things he do (that we understand why he do it) takes him at the end and return to him as Abby that kill him. What I’m saying it’s that the game is really good the matter with the people it’s that they don’t understand the whole story and the meaning of it. For me it’s one of my favorite game that I have played in my whole life. Expand

Simply a masterpiece in gaming that pushes the medium to new heights. An unforgettable experience. This game is masterful in its storytelling, technical achievement, smooth gameplay, and art direction. Most of all this game did something that no other art form could do to this extent when it comes to building empathy for another human being. Hats off to the Naughty Dog team!

I really enjoyed the game. The story, the game mechanics. The best third person shooter and stealth t in the industry to date. Great graphics and animations. Never a game gave such a roller coaster of emotions. AI is great if you play on survivor + difficulty. Game is good for those with strong empathy, ability to reflect. It challenges people to personal growth. Wow. Please, go for TLOU 3.

I know many people hated Abby. But we kinda need to be in Abby's shoes. Joel killed her father. Abby gets her revenge, and violence leads to more violence. Ended up,Ellie and Abby lost everything and everyone they once cared for. Hence,"Revenge isn't bad but obsession ruins everything." I'll give the story 9/10, but the gameplay is definitely 10/10. Pacing was a little off but the story was great, Abby really didn't grow on me as much as the narrative intended her to but her set pieces did a fair job of humanizing her. Some decisions like lev suddenly leaving to get his mom or Jesse suddenly dying without being mourned felt a little off but the story maintained to be interesting enough to continue playing. Gameplay was on point, the mechanics from the previous game were improved upon greatly here. Seeing Ellie's growth or really her "downfall" was the biggest plus point for me, I really enjoyed playing as her and feeling what she was feeling and seeing how her sanity is tested throughout her story really showed something that other games haven't come close to displaying. It's a game that does not hold your hand. If you care about the character's, it will hurt. A lot. But at the end, with reflection, I truly don't think this game could have been made any other way.

You will either love it or hate it. Neither of those feelings are wrong. But so to, your feelings do not discount others.

I loved Joel, of course I did. But Abby was not evil, she had a very good reason to kill Joel. She was no worse than Ellie, I'm sorry people have problems accepting this. I'm sorry you don't understand the message of this game and the reason Ellie didn't kill Abby. All of it was in the game and maybe y'all should have paid attention. I just finished this game yesterday, and I felt compelled to write my first review here. Why? Because, like many, I noticed the overwhelming negative attitude and backlash this game received instantly upon arrival.
When I first got this game, I didn't immediately start playing it. I felt like if there was such a generalized dislike for the game, it was probably warranted, and that potential for disappointment dampened my excitement. Sequels rarely live up to expectations after all. I knew there was a lesbian romance from the trailer and the first game's dlc, so while I figured that it would play a role in the negative responses it'd get from hateful reactionaries, I still assumed the overall dislike for the game would be grounded in legitimate concerns.
And after having finished the game, I feel awful that I ever lent any credence to the hate mob. The game is absolutely fantastic in practically every way. And it is a sad realization that, having found no real reason for the overwhelming hate campaign the game got, I am left to conclude that the discriminatory sentiment against LGBTQ representation is its core motivation. As a gay man, I am disappointed in myself for having been naive in this respect. And I am deeply appreciative of Naughty Dog for having pushed forward with these LGBTQ stories despite the predictable reactionary backlash.

So, regarding the different aspects of the game:

    - Gameplay wise, it builds on the foundation of the first game. The first game, in my opinion, had already strong, simple, effective gameplay mechanics, and this game just develops them a bit further. I am glad it is the case. Everything is responsive and feels more cinematic than in the first game.

    - Art wise, it is one of the best looking games to have ever been created, if not the best. It is undeniable how incredible this game looks. Not only from a technical perspective, in how it pushes fidelity to the highest possible degree graphics wise, but also in terms of art direction, set design, atmosphere, mood, visual storytelling. Everything feels like it has been meticulously crafted and put together to form the most seamless, intuitive and natural narrative experience. There's not a moment where the game does not reward you with incredibly designed cinematic shots, which cleverly play into various roles, both practical and story driven.
This newly achieved level of fidelity empowers the game's characters as well. The nuance of every micro expression is clearly perceived, and elevates the character development, the conflicts and inner turmoil of each character, which is especially important in this game, for reason I will be going into in the next topic.

    - Story. I cannot emphasize this enough: The story/narrative of this game is one of the most exquisite experiences I've ever had the pleasure to play. I am still devastated and thinking about this game's story. It is a bleak commentary on a vicious cycle of hatred and vengeance. A difficult look at the moral conflicts and failings in all of us. There were moments where it was hard not to look away. Where I wanted to intervene and stop the characters from acting in the way the game was asking me to act through them. It is full of despair, kindness and violence intertwined in such a difficult, grey, human manner that harshly rises above our infantile fantasies of heroes, villains and justice.
The story was, for me, its standout feature. Which makes sense, considering it was also the case for the first game.

LGBTQ representation - I am only including this category to express my deep gratitude to Naughty Dog for having the courage to write LGBTQ characters in such a big, important way. As a gay man, I am not ignorant to the constant struggle, decades upon decades, of representing any type of LGBTQ person or story in any media, let alone big AAA videogames. The culture war homophobic fanatics may try to convince you that there's an overabundance of queer representation, that there's a harmful agenda, that it's ruining videogames and other media. It's the farthest thing from the truth. These are mere battlegrounds for their culture wars, concern trolling for the sake of denigrating these types of media. Unfortunately, there's still massive resistance to the highlight of queer stories, and it often manifests in hate campaigns that mask themselves under other pretexts. Which is one of the reasons I so admire Naughty Dog's boldness in pursuing these stories, despite years and years of concentrated efforts to the contrary by those who would see us pushed to the margin, ignored and made to feel excluded from mainstream society.

All in all, this game has been one of the best gaming experiences of my life. And if, like me, you were reluctant to play it because of the negative community perception, my only advice is try it for yourself. Because you may be rejecting a spectacular game for reasons that are beyond the game itself.

Story-wise, the directors spat on our faces with really bad choices ( And some very illogic ones near the end ). The game is far from TLOU1.
I don't think making us hate a character then forcing us to play this one is a good strategy. We won't feel empathy with someone we don't like. I was waiting to play someone I liked, and ended up frustrated for a good part of the game.

Imagine playing The Witcher, but instead of Geralt, you just play as some idiot you don't like and are forced to go and ruin Geralt's day
Some of ND's political choices were too much represented, and I don't think they would have been logical in a post-apocalyptic world.

Everyone might not share the same disapointment with some events in the game, so I didn't count them in my grade.

I am aware there is review bombing using some arguments I may have used too, but that doesn't mean they are not valid, and be certain that people putting straight 10 / 10 aren't better.

Some major downsides were that levels felt repetitive/too linear, even though I could usually feel/tell that the devs tried hard to make it feel the opposite. Enemies/combat outdated, were only a few moments were a boss fight was interesting and tough. I loved how much you can customize the settings though, that really helped some aspects of combat!

GRAPHICS: about the graphics it really nice, all are built very well and awesome, Not only does it work well in large contexts and smaller details that are closer to the player have been built meticulously. I do not remember going through 2 similar locations in the game each place that brings a very honest and unique alert, If we go into the details, we can look at the surface of the water, which is measured as the graphical power of the game and they are really hard to criticize. Despite saying that, I do not believe that TLOU2 is the most beautiful product on ps4 in the present time, but the names that surpass it are few.
MUSIC: Sound again is the plus point of every game sound effects of the game,Besides the combat effects effects and environmental sounds are also carefully cared as the wind whistled in the snowstorms, the sound of fresh water in the storm, and many more. The whole thing shows players the heat of a post-apocalyptic America, The whole thing helps players feel the difference of a post-apocalyptic America, Of course, it would be a big mistake if not to mention the soundtrack of the game, which was previously considered a strong point, naughty dogs know how to control the emotions of the player with music, sometimes climaxing in fast-paced action scenes, sometimes deep, thinking with the versions. joel and ellie guitars, and sometimes there's a bit of a splash, However for TLOU2's soundtrack is not 10/10, the music has done its job well, but it has not been able to reach the level of perfection like the sound effects.
GAMEPLAY: TLOU1 has been praised in many different angles, but some will agree that gameplay is not among them, TLOU2 retains most of the features of its predecessor and improves them, melee in the game is now like a game. pull in and push when you need to dodge when the enemy takes a hit and then counterattack, not just press a button like in the first part, As for the long-range weapons, there is not much change in the number of guns that you can use in the game, if you want to have many guns to kill enemies in the game, I'm afraid that part 2 does not meet the requirements that, You can upgrade weapons in certain locations in the game like the first part and the upgrade chambers do not have too many changes, The most obvious improvement is now building ellies in the direction they want through learning life skills, there are relatively different survival skills you can learn, STORY: i don't know what to says about this 8,5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Full disclosure, I wasn't the hugest fan of the first game so that may change your opinion of my review.

The Last of Us 2 is no where near a bad game. Its completely understandable to not like this game for the story it decided to tell, but to say that the writing is objectively horrible holds no merit. The pacing of Abby's day 1 was extremely slow and took some of the excitement away from me, but it was soon made up for with the addition of Lev and Yara. I've played through this game twice and I'm personally still on the Abby sucks train, but the game does a good job of using Lev to humanize her. His addition to the story made me see Abby as a extremely flawed human being rather than a comically unforgivable villain. I don't think the story ever necessarily asks you to like Abby. Mel's feelings about Abby is more than enough to show that.

I think if the game was structured a bit different, playing both Abby's and Ellie's journey through Seattle side by side like they did in the Jackson chapter of the game, would've helped improve the pacing. Instead we get a jarring switch of perspectives in the middle of the climax, taking away from the tension of the moment.

Although the ending was not what I would have wanted, I'm not disappointed with it. I would've preferred a happy ending, Ellie staying with Dina and JJ on the farm and learning to cope and hopefully find peace within herself. Instead we get a much more depressing ending with Ellie ending up alone. I don't need all my games to have happy endings, but when a game is filled to the brim with heartbreaking and depressing moments, it should end on a happy note to avoid feeling like torture porn.

Despite the games shortcomings, I enjoyed my time with it and am looking forward to future Naughty Dog releases.

Normally, a 5/10 rating wouldn't be awful. However, this isn't just any game, this is the long awaited sequel to what is commonly considered the game of the generation. My favourite game, and the game I have dedicated a sizeable tattoo on my arm- The Last of Us.

This game's story, pacing, and gameplay are all so very flawed. There was a lot of controversy surrounding this game so let it be clear regarding the context to my thoughts: I am a young woman, I was a massive fan of the first game, and I saw exactly no leaks, attempting to block out the negativity and listen to Naughty Dog and Druckman, who insisted it would all be worth it. It wasn't worth it. I was not satisfied after playing this game. I felt actually worse off playing it. It has spoiled the franchise a little bit for me really. I won't go on too much, as there are so many youtube videos that cover the whole awful thing. I will never be playing this game again. Off to trade it in asap and hopefully forget about it

I think that people just hate on the game when it’s actually a very good game with an amazing playthrough and it has great gameplay I’d rate the game higher if I could

Absolutely amazing, no words for this. Best experience ever. The story, the music, the characters, the dialogues, just simple perfect.

loved the combat and world design, there are signs of brilliance like "the descend" part and the part leading to it. on the other hand I didn't like that the game is dictating what I should do, I mean I was doing stuff that I don't like doing or I disagree with what the character is deciding and I am not talking about the romance parts in it, what i am talking about is more decision thatloved the combat and world design, there are signs of brilliance like "the descend" part and the part leading to it. on the other hand I didn't like that the game is dictating what I should do, I mean I was doing stuff that I don't like doing or I disagree with what the character is deciding and I am not talking about the romance parts in it, what i am talking about is more decision that are forced on you. the first game found a good balance where yes it is a linear story but it wasn't forcing decisions on you. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beautiful game, yes the story isn’t your normal hero’s journey, but it’s based in realism. Most People don’t die in cool heroic ways in real life. Death is **** But if you take away the one sad death you are left with a beautiful, immersive, gripping experience. This made me feel SOMETHING. And that is powerful enough In itself. Plus the combat, graphics, mechanics, and everything else are **** killer! Expand

This was one of the hardest games for me to play through. I think the first game is one of the best of all time, period. On top of that, there's obvious "wokeness" going on throughout the story. It's also ND's mot poorly written game, maybe even the most poorly written game. It forces you to play as someone who many would consider the villain, for half the game. I can ho on and on about the problems, but it's made me so sick at this point. The story just sucks, period. The best thing about TLOU2 is the gameplay, which is just as fun and addicting as it was the first time. It's enjoyable to scavenge every building and find all the collectibles. I feel like it wears out its welcome and in the end, feels dragged out for no reason. I am sad to see how badly they butchered the series and it leaves almost no hope for recourse. I expected much more from ND, especially since Uncharted is one of the best series of all time, and Uncharted 4 was a gem. Remember, this is just my opinion. Play it for yourself and come to you own conclusion. Expand

There was something incredibly patronising about this game.
Compared to the first game, which let you discover the world and come to your own conclusions, it felt like TLOU2 just hit you over the head with corny cutscenes void of any nuance. The first one's ending made sense- the same cannot be said for this. Also, something being incredibly violent and morally ambiguous does not make it

The first one's ending made sense- the same cannot be said for this. Also, something being incredibly violent and morally ambiguous does not make it profound. This game could be a case study of this. This plot was not well-developed at all. They seemed to think it was complex, but Ellie's blind mission of revenge without questioning it at all was unbelievable and the opposite of this. I left the game feeling talked down to while the characters also felt repugnant, especially because in the end it was all so simplistic. My score reflects the graphics, which were absolutely stunning- the game had many moments of visual beauty.

Outstanding. By the end of it I felt like I had been through something traumatic and a week later I am still processing it. A game about grief and everything that comes with it including anger but also compassion. Fantastic writing, graphics, and story telling. Loved Ellie and Dina's relationship, it felt so authentic. Please let there be a TLOU3!

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
