    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game epitomizes what the “The Last of Us” franchise is all about. It’s against the grain, and it’s designed to make you uncomfortable. There are no heroes (if you thought Joel was one, you’re delusional), only survivors with checkered pasts.

    The characters and relationships are what drive this series. Even those new additions with little to no backstory, like Dina and Jessie. They did an incredible job making every character seem deeply human and complex, which has always been a strength of their’s. The story itself was so real. Naughty Dog created something that we can connect to as human beings. The moral battles they force us to fight are equal parts excruciating and exciting. And it’s mentally exhausting, in the best way possible. Put yourself in Abby’s shoes and tell me you wouldn’t do the same to Joel. Ditto with Ellie and the masses of WLF soldiers she slaughtered. They both had their reasons, and we’re not allowed to judge one without judging the other.

    This was an emotional experience. One with far fewer ups than downs. But it was hauntingly beautiful.

Some of it coming from a place of love and grief over losing Joel; some of it from anger at having to play part of the game as Abby - the girl that killed Joel. However, most of it just seems to be coming from people that have an animus toward either NaughtyDog, Neil Druckman or Sony. I have one question to everyone in the latter camp - if another studio, director, corporation developed this game would you have the same feelings about it? It all seems a bit manufactured at this point to me. All the outrage, all the bad review scores, the videos of people getting bent out of shape and rage quitting/trashing the game over its story or gameplay - it’s getting old. So here is my informed opinion on why this game is great. First, the story - let’s get it out of the way. Yes, Joel dies; yes, you play as his killer - Abby. None of that makes the story, or the game inherently bad. You might not like the fact Joel dies, you might not like being put into the shoes of Abby, but everything in the game works to craft a compelling narrative experience. Playing the game is essential to appreciating the story in this case as well; you have to be the one engaged in the action, controlling the characters and experiencing their joy, pain and loss right alongside them. Sharing in their triumphs and failures brings you closer to them, just like in TLoU. If you just passively watch the game’s cinematics instead of experiencing them after controlling the characters to that point, you miss out on the attachment you form... The bond you build. Even for me to describe my experience with the story would be too much to detail here. Instead, I will try to be brief; the story is one that is better experienced by actually playing through the game rather than reading a review of one persons opinions or watching someone else play the game just so you can see what happens next. Seriously, you may come away loving the story (as I did) or maybe you get done and you absolutely hate it (or possibly something in between). Either way you owe it to yourself to come to a conclusion on your own with respect to the story. Honestly, it is going to come down to your taste for stories like this. Next is the gameplay, all I have to say here is it is better in every way over the first one. Shooting feels improved with better hit and kill indicators, less general sway to weapons when aiming, expanded and improved crafting, character skills and weapon upgrading. Environments are more beautiful with so much more details packed into every square block of downtown Seattle. Enemies show entrance and exit wounds after being shot, especially in the head. Throw an explosive at them and they will probably be torn apart as legs and viscera go flying all around. These violent expressions are probably why the combat/gunplay feels so damn fun. You relish scavenging for supplies because you know it means you will get more parts to upgrade your weapons; or maybe you find supplements that give you new abilities to keep a healthy supply of bombs and trap mines crafted and in you inventory. Not to mention this game has the most extensive accessibility and gameplay customization options I have ever seen. It is basically designed to be playable even if you are deaf and blind... So yeah. This game does so much better for the actual gameplay. I think this is not debatable at all. So if you are a fan of the gameplay in the first title, this one will leave you breathless and yearning for more. Overall, the game does play somewhat differently from the first, but there is enough in common, that it makes you feel right at home. I will try to wrap this up with some of my favorite things that the game delivered for me. 1. Incredible story that griped me and had me exploring my emotions and re-evaluating my stance on characters. 2. Combat is beautifully violent and such a pleasure to start mastering to develop your own tactical approach to encounters. 3. The music is so sharp and only serves to enhance the tone and attitude the game is evoking. 4. Top notch environments with stunning scenery, characters and graphics. This game will hold the spot as favorite so far this year. So I really hope this helps you decide on whether to pick it up or not. If you do/did and the story is wearing on you, understand it is supposed to, but if you really don’t like it - I am sorry. I know it might not be for everyone, but thankfully you can skip cutscenes and pretend it didn’t happen. Now if you don’t like the gameplay/were only in it for the story... this is your cue to avoid the game then. Hopefully, if that’s the case, you didn’t commit to buying it outright and just rented a copy/borrowed from a friend. I seriously love this game and hope with time people go back and revisit it with a fresh perspective and give the story a chance; I think there will be a newfound love for TLoU pt II… Expand

    As much as I tried to hate on this game I just couldn't the Abby character grew on me and the game showed brilliantly that there's 2 sides to every story. Not as good as uncharted but a nice game altogether

Но это стоит того. Вопреки тому что везде пишут, это не история о мести, а скорее боле утраты и о смирению с ней , Эбби потеряла отца и друзей, Элли потеряла Джоэла и Джесси. обе они хотели прикончить друг друга но в итоге смирились с утратой друзей и поняв что ничего не изменить отпустили друг друга. на мой взгляд игра не плоха, и заслуживает 9 баллов.… Expand

    Contrary to what a lot of people may want you to believe, The Last of Us Pt. 2 is a great game. Even though it is definetely flawed, particularly showing some pace issues during it's second act, it's strong points are just too strong to ignore. Gameplay is both fun and extremely tense all through out, and its story is compelling once you take the time to really pay attention and analyzeContrary to what a lot of people may want you to believe, The Last of Us Pt. 2 is a great game.     It is definetely not for everyone, as some of the risks it takes don't really work out in the end (also, one could definetely tell it's maker's political views while playing the game, which could make the experience less enjoyable if you don't agree with these views) . Still, don't let all the online hate and tired, old memes stop you from trying out an awesome game (some people do have their legit reasons to dislike it, but most seem to just be sheeps riding the hate-wagon).    … Expand

То что в эту игру приплели лгбт - никаким образом не портило мне игру, только перекачанная Эбби первые часы немного раздражала. Игра отличная и подарила мне кучу эмоций. Повествование делится на 2 части, и как по мне, первая половина сильно проигрываетНачну с того, что она совсем отличается от первой части. Лично я не чувствовал, что меня заставляют делать то, что мне не нравится, как некоторые пишут, мне наоборот было очень интересно наблюдать за происходящим на экране. Все геймплейные механики выточены на ура, работа проведена колоссальная. Деталей куча. Управление героем ощущается на каком то невероятно тактильном уровне, я прям чувствовал каждое движение Элли, каждый шаг. Отдача от оружия чувствуеца на кончиках пальцев, удары ближнего боя э мега сочные и прекрасно поставленные, от самих приемов до операторского ракурса, все великолепно. Атмосфера.. Атмосфера передана великолепно, особенно пугающие места здесь сделаны просто потрясно. После каждого боя с зараженными, выходил с трясущимися руками. Сюжет к сожалению может многих разочаровать, но как по мне он хоть и уступает оригиналу, но не в коем случае не плох. Вторая половина игры, заставила меня испытать кучу эмоций, а концовка вывела на долгие размышления. После прохождения я понял на сколько все в этой игре получили по заслугам, и каждый ответил за свои действия. Я рекомендую эту игру, но строго не рекомендую ожидать много от нее, иначе можно совсем разочаровываться!… Expand

I got to understand the perspective of the "villiian" and realise that she was just the same as Ellie. So many people leaving bad reviews just can't get past the black and white / good guy / bad guy separation. Maybe move on from Disney and open your mind to something a bit more grown up.

    The gameplay was a bit too similar to the original but the world was just gorgeous. I found it a lot harder to get past some of the bosses than the original too.

    The story was really well done - it was a roller coaster of emotions. If you don't like feeling really really bad and really really sad...maybe not the game for you.    … Expand

That season changed her and took away a lot of her innocence and love. The story for Part II isn’t perfect and I didn’t like playing as Abby. Ellie is the same character from Part I she lost her innocence before that game even ended. Joel has had to deal with his lie all this time and Ellie knew it as seen in a flashback from the trailer for a second and in gameplay. Ellie’s worst fear was ending up alone and... it happened. I get the split liking and disliking of this game and this is the very first game review I’ve ever posted on Metacritic but I have to say I enjoyed what I witnessed but it wasn’t perfect, but still a good game and good story just not fantastic. And I’ve played the **** out of Part I I’m not even exaggerating when I say I’ve played Part I 16 times and I played it 2 more times in a span of 2 months before Part II dropped. I was ready and had huge refreshes on the story. I also stayed away from the leaks but I did know how Joel died just not when and how fast he did. This is a definite should play all around, define your own opinion on games and media it’s what we all have the ability to do. Judge this game on your own terms, I did. Thank you for reading … Expand

Naughty dog delivers top notch details as always in the graphics, level design, mocap, animations, gameplay, variation and sound(music and voice acting) etc. Story is very controversial, had some issues for me that i didn't like as much but overall very memorable and interesting. Makes you think twice about killing someone. Had someWow what a dark and brutal but also beautiful game. Naughty dog delivers top notch details as always in the graphics, level design, mocap, animations, gameplay, variation and sound(music and voice acting) etc. Story is very controversial, had some issues for me that i didn't like as much but overall very memorable and interesting. I enjoyed playing as Abby and found her story as captivating as Ellie’s. The symmetry and poetry between the twos stories was heart wrenching. In Haven the entire sequence on horse back had me crying and my palms sweating.

    While mentioning crying I can’t NOT talk about THAT scene. My breath was held the entire time and I could barely see it all through my tears. It was absolutely heartbreaking and I need to commend Ellie’s voiceactress as she did a superb job. I feel that the ending to the game for me was very lacklustre. Everyone was able to find some peace and instead of learning from the vicious cycle of revenge, pain, revenge, pain the story was showing; Ellie leaves her family only to attack Abby at her lowest and then no go through with it??? It felt.... shallow and like it missed the mark. Though I appreciated that they explored actual consequences for actions for Ellie. Overall the game was stunning and the story was gut wrenching, but missed some marks here and there. 9/10    … Expand

    Now, let's talk about the story. The story indeed takes a darker turn but still have some very beautiful moments to balance out all the lows. This story captivates the reality and practicality of the situation the characters are in and tough choices they had to make in them. These choices also have consequences that cannot be undone.
    Without spoiling the story, I would just say that the game lays out different perspective of the characters and justifies the path they take.

    This is a very emotional journey that I recommend anyone with a PS4 to experience.    … Expand

The Last of Us apart 2 makes you question yourself and how you should feel about certain characters and situations in ways rarely seen by video games. It’s a bloody, brutal, and bleak game that is so visceral that you may feel Squeamish with the actions from characters. It’s the most beautiful game I’ve ever played. The lighting, atmosphere, and sound design are absolutely top notch. Naughty dog delivers again with Last of Us Part 2 that I definitely recommend. 10/10 a genuine masterpiece.… Expand

    The writing in this game is as good as it is daring. For the first time naughty dog puts a challenge in front of you that can't be beaten by skills or by playing. A masterpiece in meta writing. If the pacing of the story would have been slightly better this game would be one of the best ever made

    It crazy how many settings there are, you can really costum the game as you like it. My friend has a hard time seeing dark colors, but the game allows him to apply vision accessibility preset.

    A lovely ride even thought some story beats didn't work for me, especially when there were moments where it felt like characters went out of character to push the story in a different direction.     Still I don't play games for story and when it comes to gameplay everything is better than the first, every arena feels like it is it's own puzzle that can be solved in many different way. This is a game where I recommend playing on a higher difficulty to get that intense survival feeling.

    When it comes to sound, graphics and presentation this is as good as it gets when it comes to console gaming at the moment.

    Игра в целом хороша, но не без минусов в подаче и раскрытии персонажей. По моему мнению её слишком затянули, ну зато локации очень красочные и довольно большие. Ставлю десятку только из за того что она не заслуживает такой низкой пользовательской оценки. Концовка в контексте всего что произошло за 25 часов игры просто охуенна, change my mind. Level design, general atmosphere, all these are exceptional. However, I have no idea what happened to the soundtrack. i cant remember a single track. While in the first game it can touch your soul.     This game is freaking art. It made my stomach twist but it also made me feel peaceful and oh goodness i don't think I've ever connected with characters in a video as much I have in this game(and its predecessor of course). Wow what a ride. Definitely not a joyride but when we can call a movie like Joker art, we call this game art too. Naughty Dog took a huge leap of faith with this one

    I just finished TLoU II last night. I wanted to play through the whole game before leaving an impression here. If there were .5 options then I'd call this an 8.5 but opted to give an 8 instead.

    My main critiques are around the length of the game, some of the stealth mechanics, and how the game presents all the extra goodies while also pushing you to move forward (which create a strange    I just finished TLoU II last night.     I put in about 28-29 hours to complete the game and didn't find every extra goodie available. While bigger is sometimes better, in this case some sections felt too long. I wanted to find out the next story beat and getting there never feels like a straight shot, or some unexpected wall pops up that adds 30 minutes to the section (a classic Naughty Dog trope at this point). TLoU II isn't the first Naughty Dog game that is guilty of this. Uncharted 2 and 3 had some sections that could have been shorter as well.

    As for stealth mechanics, maybe I'm really bad at playing stealthy in this game. I felt like I was being pretty careful to not be seen or heard but most of the non-infected enemies seem to be able to spot and hear me pretty easily. There are many sections of the game that were designed with hiding places (under trucks or beds, in storage containers, in tall grass) so it seems like there was an intention to be able to play in such a way to be unnoticed and sneak up on enemies but that rarely ever worked for me. I was in open combat more often than not.

    The last criticism I had is that when I spent time searching the larger areas looking for hidden extra goodies the game would prompt me to click L3 if I need a hint. I don't need a hint, I'm just trying to find the hidden things. For all the extra work Naughty Dog put into making extra notes, cards, coins, etc. the game equally pushes me to stop looking for those and move forward.

    As for the violence, it is a bit over the top but it wasn't off putting for me as a player. I would say if someone else was watching me play they'd probably think I'm a sadist but I swear I'm not :D

    Everything else about the game I enjoyed. The combat is tight (even when I didn't want to rush into combat), the technical aspects of visual and audio presentation are fantastic, and I thought the story was good (albeit a bit too long). There are some flashbacks within flashbacks which does feel a bit strange but that feeds into my "game is too long" perspective. Could they have done it any other way? Probably, but I'm not a narrative or game designer so they did it better than I could.    … Expand

    The amount of people who bombarded the reviews of this game without even playing it is ridiculous, petty and just plain sad. If you were actually to play the game you would see it for it's amazing graphics, game play, lighting, models, animations, story line etc. It's embarrassing to see some of these peoples negative reviews without real reasoning. What a shame.

However, the writing was subpar and unbelievable. In the end I felt little connection to any of the new characters and ended up disliking some of the old. The last of us part 2 é simplesmente incrível tanto quanto tão profundo pode te mostrar que a vida é feita de escolhas e cabe a voce decidir que tipo de pessoa voce quer escolher ser ou como que nem toda aparência pode ser julgada. Ellie e Abby foi esse caso de alto e baixos de voce querer odiar e amar as protagonistas. Tantas partes marcantes e em uma colocação tao bem colocada de cada uma das personagens me fez ser um dos meus games favoritos. Minha critica fica somente pelo fato de o mais Ícone personagens dos Videogames morrer de forma tão sem ênfase digamos “ infantil “ Joel tem um peso muito grande pelo oque fez ao longo da trama, personagem que em um mundo pos apocalíptico é temido por ser malicioso, inteligente e malandro e em The last of us 2 arrancaram simplesmente sumiram com a personalidade dele e isso me deixou puto ao deixar minha nota em um 9.

    I know a lot of people have problems with this game but for me and a lot of other people this game was amazing, story and all. I loved Abby and all the new characters except for Owen he felt weird. Joel's death was brutal and done really early and of course his death could have been done in a better way but for me it was realistic and made me want to kill Abby. And after seeing Abby's story it made me feel bad for her and i ended up loving her character and Laura Bailey really helped. Now I love Joel's character but i hope people realize he was a piece of **** and everything he did in the first game was selfish because he wanted a his daughter back and kill dozens of people who were trying to find the cure just because he couldn't let Ellie go. Now like Tommy said i cant say i would have done any different but that doesnt make Joel a saint and i think that Abby had a very good reason to do what she did and knowing that i wasnt as mad about how Joel died once i beat the game and reflecting on it, it was a very **** good game. The only reason its not a 10/10 for me is because of some bugs that are noticeable but not super game breaking for me at least and some of the writing was a little weird like when Abby said "You are my family" to Lev, I thought that was a little off and also the Abby sex scene felt out of nowhere and a little unnecessary and was just there to add drama. But everything else was heartbreaking and emotional in the best way possible and Im looking forward to a third one.    … Expand

The storyline is all over the place, must have been a result of people leaving the development team. Finishing the game was so hard because of how pointless it got. Characters that were not interesting had their own 6 hours of gameplay and once the game was over, I couldn’t make myself to replay it again for the trophies. On the other hand, motion capture was on point, voice acting on point, graphics were stunning, but unfortunately they didn’t save the story. I say this with a broken heart, I won’t be looking forward to a 3rd game.… Expand

I think those who hate the story did not fully understand it. Yes, Joel's death sucks, was brutal and unforgivable. But this is the world of TLOU, that's how the creators wanted it.     Everything in this games works perfectly except the story. Combat is great , environment's is great and graphics are great. I was a bit disappointed with the soundtrack but still. If only ND have chosen any other story rather than revenge than the game might worked.

The ending did fall a *little* flat for me, and about 10 hours in the game seemed pretty repetitive and a bit of a slog, but once you reach the midway point (you'll know it when you reach it), it becomes a whole different beast, and improves immeasurably.

Its just so contradictory and fill with risky tricks... Well its no wonder why game have this kind of reaction in the internet. From simple fps with storyline in txt file up to this game where it is main thing. Its just so contradictory and fill with risky tricks... Well its no wonder why game have this kind of reaction in the internet. Story worked for me, it is like classic drama literature poem in comics book. Most players are just waiting for entertainment like first game was road move based, but this game has grown ups over that, there is no hero and bad guy. Only some realistic outlined persons with theirs hate and redemption. I afraid player base is not ready for this -( and we will stuck with grind and lootboxes with simple storyline to entertain every player... It is sad.… Expand

    Will be thinking about this game for a long time. I think the way people experience this game is very personal. I personally think the story is good, Naughty dog set out to make a game in which you will have to do things you don't want to do. There were many moments where I put away my controller because i needed to get myself together before being able to continue playing. That mightWill be thinking about this game for a long time. That might sound like a negative thing, but those moments, when you pause or even quit the game for a moment and think about what's happening, are exactly what Naughty dog want from you. The story constantly makes you feel contradictory, and i love it for it.
    Besides this, the gameplay was similar to that of the first game but more streamlined, more realistic and with more options for how you want to approach combat and non-combat situations. It took the good parts of the gameplay of the first game and improved on it.
    The game looks stunning, i was impressed that all of this was possible on a PlayStation 4.
    Then there is the acting and the music. I'm putting both of these together because it without it the story would have fallen flat and both were able to deliver the extra layer of emotion that was necessary for me to give this game a 10.
    Overall i'd say, if you liked the last of us (part 1?), and liked how in that game you were made to think about morality because of how you were forced to do something you might not have done yourself and liked how Naughty dog is able to make you feel all kinds of things, I think you will like this game just as much as the first one.    … Expand

A masterpiece, because the way the thread of the story is felt is indescribable. Chic, because every sigh, intonation and phrase is beautiful. But not only because it is beautiful, interesting and cool voiced. New gameplay mechanics-fire. Shooting,In short , this game is a masterpiece. A história foi muito bem moldada, momentos de gameplay intenso, outrora com uma calmaria, mas isso não é ruim, muito pelo contrário, são momentos bacanas com os persongens tem, é como se eles lembrassem de momentos importantes que passaram e ficaram em suas memórias e com certeza ficará nas nossas lembranças também. Por falar nisso, o game volta e avança no tempo e jogamos em épocas diferentes cada trecho do game, mas não se preocupe, isso é feito de uma forma bem fácil de se entender. O gameplay continua maravilhoso, na verdade é a mesma fórmula de sempre, com umas pitadas a mais, pra que mexer no que já é bom? Coletamos peças pra dar upgrades nas armas e isso é feito em uma bancada de forma bem realista, é bem bacana de se ver e o número de armas está de bom tamanho para um jogo desse estilo. Temos algumas habilidades iniciais que podem ser destavadas com os "comprimidos" que achamos no game e pra destavar novas categorias de habilidades temos que achar algumas revistar especiais que achamos espalhadas nos cenários, explorar é essencial. Isso tanto pra Ellie como para a Abby. Além disso as duas também tem colecionáveis, a Ellie junta uma especial de cartas de super-heróis, enquanto a Abby coleta moedas antigas que ela coleciona, tudo espalhado em lugares bem escondidos pela galera da Naughty Dog.
    Os cenários são maravilhosos, tudo é muito lindo aos olhos, tudo foi cuidadosamente feito e com certeza The Last of Us Part 2 tem um dos gráficos mais perfeitos dessa geração. Assim como em Uncharted 4, a sequência de Ellie e Joel passui momentos de mundo semi-aberto, passando por sua maioria por momentos lineares, o que pra mim não é nenhum problema, pois prefiro jogos assim.
    Quanto aos inimigos temos uma boa variação, mantendo alguns do primeiro game e trazendo novos, como o tropego, um infectado que anda mancando e que epeli gases tóxicos, um infectado bizarro com várias partes de outros infectados são alguns exemplos.
    Do lado dos humanos temos seus fiéis amigos, os cães, que rastreiam Ellie por onde que ela vai. Os inimigos estão mais espertos e chamam pelos seus campanheiros e se lanentam quando um deles é morto pela Ellie. Aqui uma crítica, a Naughty Dog economizou nos modelos dos inimigos então se prepare para matar muitos "gêmeos" no jogo. No geral a inteligência artificial dos inimigos é boa e não desagrada.
    O game conta com uma longa campanha, onde explorando o game você passa de mais de 35 horas de duração e garanto que você vai querer jogá-lo novamente.
    Se você tiver mente aberta e querer ver tudo o que a Naughty Dog tem a contar com esse game, vai fundo, muitos criticaram um ocorrido triste do jogo, mas como disse no início a Naughty Dog mostrou os dois lados da moda. Quem são os heróis, ou vilões em The Last of Us Part 2? Um jogo pra ficar na história! Nota 10.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
