I don't know how they did it, but Neil Druckman's team surpassed the insane expectations I personally had for this sequel. It's a story full of twists that involves you from the second you ride into Jackson as Joel. It's a story full of twists that involves you from the second you ride into Jackson as Joel. The graphics were astonishing, the acting made you forget that the people weren't real, and the story just felt... raw. Authentic. Things made sense, even though it sometimes didn't go the way you want it to, very much like in Game of Thrones. As a piece of literature, this game really outdid itself - you feel that there are layers upon layers beneath the sentences spoken and the things done by your character. The number of times I covered my mouth in shock, or awe, or sadness, or chuckled at the stabs (metaphorical) or stiffened up at the real stabs they took at each other, are countless. The Gameplay mechanics are fluid, and feel so grounded. You feel every shot you take, every dodge leaves your heart throbbing, crawling/sneaking around felt real.
I'm jealous you get to play this game for the first time. This was an unforgettable experience, and a more than worthy successor to the genius that is The Last of Us.

The living proof that a game can be something more.
It's a sad, real and moving story but at the same time you can find happiness and joy in the little thing, in the looks exchanged between characters and in the dialogues... like real life.

    Revenge and Forgiveness.
Two side of the same coin, like the protagonists of this story.
If the first one was a really good game, Part 2 goes beyond and reaches a depth like very few other games.
From a game play perspective, TLOU Part 2 is fun and well-produced. Level design, lights, models, music and the OST... an outstanding job

Pacing between playing as Ellie and after with Abby for such a long hours, a minus. Not that Abby’s story couldn’t be interesting, but when you’re just getting into it with Ellie, it sucked to be taken away from that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried to write this with minimal spoilers but there is some major ones towards the end regarding Ellie. So don’t read if you plan on playing, which you should it is a great game to play but the story to me fell short. This game was a personal let down, in regards to the narrative and characters. To clarify when I say characters, I mean how their stories are told and how they are presented, not their gender, build/body type, or their sexuality. The writing was ambitious and well done for what they were going for but it missed the mark. Firstly, Joel’s death was mishandled, I got no problem that he died but I do with the way it happened. To have no build up or suspense it lacked the punch it should have had and the whole situation was unbelievable. Two guys that have lived in this world for so long to have them (Tommy) open up and reveal their town and who they are to strangers that are equipped like a Marine raider detachment is bonkers. Joel was spit on this whole game which I would have been fine with if it was done better and in a more believable way. Then Abby... oh Abby, she is in fact “a piece of **** in regards to her writing. To have this plain revenge is bad story, but then to have a main protagonist, THE main protagonist feel no remorse for torturing and murdering doesn’t make sense. It would’ve been fine if she was just a plain antagonist but to have her kill a beloved character but then forced to feel sympathetic for is bs. I get it, their is no good or bad just people trying to survive and Joel was not a saint and to her he deserved it but they made us feel for him in the first game and we grew attached to him regardless of his choices which can’t be said for Abby. Throughout the game when it was made clear that you are made to feel for her and the writers shoving it in you’re face that they want you to love her, it ended up making her less likable due to the almost manipulative writing. Last for story/characters is Ellie who took a backseat in a narrative that is supposed to be about her. The cure and the virus is not even a minor plot point in this game, besides Ellie being immune. A seven year wait all to have this whole story arc get abandoned and traded with a generic revenge plot with a unsatisfying ending and focusing on new characters instead of Ellie is disappointing. The ending was a kick in the no-no square for us and Ellie. She throws her relationships in the bin, all for revenge but at the climax when she can finally achieve her goal she backs out and leaves us wondering what the hell was the point? Even though I dislike where they went with it is still well written for what they were going for and if you did like the story, awesome I’m glad you did it’s still a good game but for a narrative driven game it fell short for me. In regards to actual gameplay/graphics it is a blast to play and the best looking game on the PS4 especially on a 4K TV with HDR. If you loved the first one’s gameplay you will still love this one. Although it does lack innovation and any new major gameplay mechanics. The graphics is another story, the attention to detail is amazing, from the snow flakes to foot prints in the mud and snow the game is breathtaking and the graphics design and art team are among the best in the industry. Overall the game is good, it plays and looks like a next gen-title however for a narrative and character driven game this is were the game falls short. Even though the story was disappointing for me, like I said above, I still highly recommend playing. In regards to the threats and uncalled for comments towards voice actors and staff that made this game, in my opinion they are some of the best in the industry and none of them, no one for that matter deserve death threats for working out on a fictional story. If someone like Laura Bailey and the writers can make you feel that upset about a character that means they’re doing a damn good job. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is good, but not what I expected. gameplay, graphics, combat, accessibility was perfect. Story and pasting wasn’t. I think playing as Abby is irrelevant, for me she wasn’t a well written character, her implementation in the game feels forced and fake, and I just feel that the gameplay throughout her part wasn’t a “the last of us” style for me it felt more like uncharted (more in the seraphite island). And I just kept wanting to go back to Ellie. And in general this game doesn’t feel like a The last of us. I’m ok with Joel’s death, but I really think Ellie should’ve avenge him at the end. Or they could’ve found some other way to justify her forgiving Abby at the end, maybe Lev saying “please stop” reminding Ellie what she went through. Idk I just keep thinking of a lot of ways they could’ve done the story better, but well, I think that’s a good thing because it keeps me thinking of it’s story. I understand what they were trying to do, but I couldn’t buy it at all even though I tried. It’s a good game but no 10/10. And no better than the first one. Expand

TLOU part 2 is really a very good game, the gameplay is improved compared to part 1, the sound in the game is very good, the graphics are very realistic and detailed, the plot a lot of people say is meaningless but for me then it conveyed a lot of meaningful messages, brought me a lot of emotions: happy, sad, angry, forgiving, merciful .... Playing to the end when I saw joel and I cried. 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, it all looks like a prank.
The game does not deserve such fate. Covid which led to delay, spoilers leak and so on...
And then, right after release, after MINUTES, the game got bombed with zeroes on metacritic... It is ridicilous. Really. You just red short review of the book and now think that you red and understand the whole book? LOL
BTW, the game is monumental. And the plot is one of the pros (not cons).
You really think that Druckmann ruined the franchise? Why? Because Abby led by the person holding the controller killed Joel? Wooo, Joel, how can he be wrong, he saved Ellie. And he was main protagonist of the first game. Yeah, that right. But Druckman did that risky step - he left player (Abby) to kill joel and then see why that happened. And... She got strong motivation to do that.
Now let's talk 'bout SJW and lesbians... I live in pretty homophobic country (Russia), but it does not make me homophobic. It was a bit cringy when player finds out Lev's secret (it should be introduced different way), but Ellie's love to girls is not surprizing - for me it was all well explained in left behind DLC. So, now lets criticize every piece of art with lesbian love included - woohoo, Mulholland Dr. is a complete trash.
I am really tired of writing all this already, so it looks like after few more lines i'll get exhausted. But f**k it, i'll continue.
The hole game is about empathy, forgiveness and cycle of violence. The game just lets you see the consequences of your actions (those actions are yours as well - you played as Joel in the first game).
When cricizing some parts of the plot (and especially ending), it looks like you guys lost CRITICAL parts of the story. And also - it is still new for players that some parts are not explained verbally - it's all about emotions, facial animations and even "acting by eyes". It is new for the industry since there are no games which are done on such hight level in terms of animation.
That's the reason why in some Nolan's movies some characters are only needed to expose the story. And BTW, some people still find Nolan's movies sophisiticated.

-Character diversity (making for an even MORE believable world)

    Cons:
-Somewhat poor pacing through the story
-Unfortunate ending I was expecting more closure from
-An antagonist with no redeeming qualities (In my opinion, as I've heard mixed things about them)
-A segment of the game was kind of pointless and did not accomplish much (again, in my opinion)
-Gameplay identical the original game, with very little experimentation

TL;DR This game is worth a play if you liked the first one, but expect some... interesting approaches to story telling.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. JUEGAZO.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. tlou2 is clearly a visually stunning game with excellent world design. gameplay is what i expected from naughty dog (uncharted 3: undead nightmare). it feels more like an interactive movie than a video game, but tlou1 was already like this - just less lol

it's obvious the reviews are being bombed by people who can't see past their emotional attachment to joel's character and have determined that killing an important character equates to bad writing. in my opinion, joel's story had been completed in tlou1, and it felt natural to have his death play a role in the second game (this is an opinion i held months before this game came out. seriously, it's a trope - if you weren't expecting his death then you're just blatantly ignorant to, like, all literature ever. mentors and parental figures die). also, it's not like he's not in the video game. you get to interact with him plenty during the flashbacks.

p.s. we've already known for years that ellie is gay get over it, and if you're mad that abby is beefy it's just because she could beat you up and you're insecure

i'm disappointed with the ending, i feel that it was cut pretty short, but i guess that just means we all get to wait another few years to see what happens next since it's obviously not over. it also doesn't really feel like ellie learned anything. yea, she lets abby go but we're not really given a reason why she would after everything she went through and everyone that suffered because of her pointless revenge mission. i mean what's even the point of having the scene of tommy begging her to finish it if she's just gonna flake again? we get that little flash of joel playing guitar on the porch but if that's supposed to be her thinking that joel wouldn't want this or something, she's wrong joel totally would've wanted her to bash abby's skull in. he'd probably kill lev too

i genuinely enjoyed abby's story more than ellie's story. it was awesome to come out of this empathizing with abby and seeing what a survivor she is. plus after having to fight ellie so many times i've got a bit of a grudge over how dirty she fights. i mean seriously, who uses a knife on an emaciated woman you just cut off of what was essentially a crucifix in your epic fight to the death??

i think it was a really good, fresh change to have abby - who we are supposed to identify as the main villain, become a playable character. abby's reason for going after joel is just as valid as ellie's reason to go after her. we get to see that the villain has just as many loved ones and things to live for as our protagonist. we get to see our protagonist cast in a different light, showing her as a ruthless and constant threat - seriously, abby let ellie go and ellie slaughtered most of abby's friends in cold-blood.

i'm a big fan of the rat king, it was cool to go to a ground zero. shamblers are eh. was hoping for more developments in the infection or at least more information regarding the infected. combat with infected felt way easier than the last game, and the combat with other people was just the same boring gunfight/sneaking session over and over again.

and if there are any angry gamers reading this, prepare yourself for the next game because i'm pretty sure ellie's gonna die in that one. you can't just rate a video game 0 because you're mad at it

Tlou's world is horrible and violent but there is also love. If you steal the the thing that a human loves most (like joel and abby's father) he/she want take his/her revenge, its obviously  because we are monkeys!,we follow our instinct and feelings first.

If you are a kid and you want a good ending you can find it on comics and cartoons, because tlou 2 ending it was the most realistic one!
The ending is realistic because the protagonist's chooses have consequences and the Ellie's chooses was the most egotistical ones but their was the most human.

Im sorry if i have made some grammar mistakes but English is no my first language.

    Thanks for reading

Making you play as Abby and having to sympathize with her, learning she actually isn’t as bad as you thought she was, and really feeling the pain she went through, and seeing it from Ellie’s perspective, watching her give up everything for revenge, when it wasn’t even what she wanted, all she wanted was piece, and it hurts me inside seeing how she ended up in the end, definitely GOTY in my book, totally worth playing, same for the first game too! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Although the story is divisive, it worked for me. From a technical aspect (mechanically and graphically), the game is probably the best game ever made. Story-wise, I thought the risks paid off, but it was ever so slightly bogged down by some pacing issues and its overdrawn length. It’s not as good as the first, but it’s still a remarkable feat not only technically but in storytelling as well.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DISCLAIMER: I do not think this game is perfect. No game is perfect. As IGN put it, "There’s no such thing as a truly perfect game, but those that earn a Masterpiece(10/10) label from IGN come as close as we could reasonably hope for." This game has its flaws, for example, how Abby just happens to run into Tommy and Joel while they're on a patrol and the completely gratuitous sex scene between Abby and Owen, but I believe that the pros outweigh the cons 1000-1.

What can I say about The Last of Us Part II that hasn't already been said? It's an emotional rollercoaster, filled with happy moments, sad moments, and oh-my-God-you-can-pet-the-dog moments. One of the biggest twists, and the inciting incident that causes Ellie to go on a killing spree across Seattle, is Joel's death. This was one of those sad moments. At first, I couldn't believe my eyes. Joel is a resilient person who's been through so much to get to this point. I mean, he survived for 25 years in a **** zombie apocalypse. I wouldn't last a day! When I first saw that cutscene with Ellie on the floor, begging Abby to stop before she delivers the final blow, I thought, "He can't be gone, he just can't. He'll be back. He's still alive, he's gotta be." Even after seeing his grave, I still thought he was somehow alive. But seeing his empty house with his jacket, his revolver, and that framed picture of him and Sarah made it final. He was gone. No death in any book, TV show, movie, or game has ever impacted me as much as this one did, and here's why. The Last of Us Part I took the player on a journey with Joel. we got to control him as he shivved clickers, slaughtered Hunters, and massacred an entire damn hospital of Fireflies armed to the teeth. We grew to love Joel, so when he died, it was heartbreaking, at least for me. As tragic as his death was, I wouldn't change as second of it.

I believe a lot of people's trouble with the game stems from Abby's section, so I'll address how I felt about it. Halfway through the game, Abby finds Ellie's hideout. She kills Jessie and threatens to kill Tommy if Ellie doesn't drop her weapon. Ellie complies and says, "I know why you killed Joel. He did what he did to save me. There's no cure because of me. I'm the one that you want." Abby points the gun at Ellie, saying, "We let you both live, and you wasted it." Then, we cut to black, and we play a flashback section where we find out Abby's motive for torturing and killing Joel. Jerry Anderson was Abby's father and a neurosurgeon who worked for the Fireflies. He was the one that drew the scalpel on Joel when he went into the operating room to save Ellie. Joel, of course, kills him, leaving Abby fatherless. Even after learning this, I still hated Abby. She killed Joel, how could I forgive her? But I did. After playing through Seattle Day 1, 2, and 3 again as Abby, I came to understand her. I saw her as a person, not as the golf-club-wielding monster that brutally murdered my favourite bearded Texan. This is how you get the player to sympathize with someone that did something seemingly unforgivable. You force them to play as that character and literally walk a mile in their shoes. Some people didn't sympathize with her, which is fine. But the hate this game has been getting is completely unwarranted. The 5.5 User Score on this game is a result of people review bombing and giving it 0/10 even though no AAA title is ever deserving of such a score. Also, a lot of people have been saying that the 10/10s from journalists were paid off by Sony or Naughty Dog, which is just untrue. Game journalists are never paid to give high scores on a game, and review scores don't even affect how much the game sells, so it would be a terrible financial decision for the game developer. If you want to know more, go watch a video by ex-IGN employee Alanah Pearce titled "10/10 Game Reviews: the truth." She explains it better than I ever could.

Simply put, it just didn't work for me. in a vacuum the story and themes are competent but as a long awaited sequel to one of the greatest games ever made (in my humble opinion) this is easily the single most disappointing game i've ever played. Even without the context of the original, the game's over reliance on flashbacks destroys the pacing with brief 30 minute interruptions at best and at worst, forcing the player to trek through 10 hours of gameplay before resolving a cliffhanger. Naughty Dog took a risk with this game which I respect but don't necessarily agree with. Last of Us was excellent at its time. Last of Us Part 2 was a disappointment. Joe getting killed off in chapter 1 even after saving abbys life is just stupid. The game was watchable till the fight between Elli + Abby. The 2nd half of the game I didn't even care to watch and so I skipped through it within 2-3 minutes. Abby is the "enemy" uninteresting 'ugly' character. Too many people are blindsided by Ellie being lesbian ( like they didn't pay attention to the first game or play the DLC) , intimidated cuz Abby is buff and can probably beat your ass, or mad cuz a trans 13 year old exists ( who was supposed to get married off to some elder in their religious group) in the game that they automatically disapprove of the game -_-. It is not pushing any kind of agenda for people literally existing in a post apocalyptic game..Game and theme of vengeance was handled really well. Conflict was definitely present and showed repercussions of seeking vengeance from using Ellie to show conquest to achieve that goal and Abby as showing the aftereffect of completing vengeance and the void it creates after obsession of something for years.. it was foreshadowed hard in beginning of game during Joel song " if I lost you, I'd surely lose myself". Which is exactly happened to both characters. Game was superb to me. Of course it can have subjective criticism for how the gameplay and pacing can effect your experience but existence of lesbian or trans character shouldn't be a crutch for a problem in game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really believe that a 3.5 rating from "gamers" is unfair to The Last Of Us Part II, considering the graphics and gameplay are amazing. I spent a lot of time appreciating the realistic textures of the characters, their clothes, bags, etc. It was really impressive. BUT I also don't think it's a 10/10 game because, while the story didn't have a lot of flaws, the ones they do have are really important for the player's experience. PS: I avoided all spoilers and biased reviews until I finished the game to not form an opinion that wasn't my own. I also study film, so I also understand the perspective and intentions behind the screen.

Let's start with what people are the angriest about. Joel's death. When it happened, I was in denial until I saw his grave. But honestly, through a storytelling point of view, it makes sense to put this as the driving force for Ellie's new adventure. The game does NOT lose the Joel and Ellie dynamic since we get flashbacks and answers that we had from the ending of Part I. Do I think there could have been other alternatives to his death? Sure. Joel could have been kidnapped or Tommy could have been the one to get killed, but it wouldn't have had as much impact for the player. It would've just felt like another mission, an objective. It wouldn't have felt personal. While his death wasn't heroic like a lot of people wanted it to be, it's completely realistic. Joel killed a lot of innocent people for selfish reasons, there was bound to be consequences.

For me, the biggest flaw of the game is the unbalanced change of perspectives. While we switch between Ellie and Abby in the first hours of the game, that stops after Joel's death and I think that was a terrible choice. Giving us like ten hours of Abby (a dislikable character until we meet Yara and Lev) all of the sudden is really overwhelming. If we had switched in between Ellie and Abby throughout the whole game, it would have definitely been a much more enjoyable experience, not to mention the routes for Abby are extremely long and should have been cut short. I also felt that a lot of Owen's parts were unnecessary, they don't really add something meaningful to Abby's story and he comes off as a really plain guy. I would have rather spent more time with Yara and Lev.

I really loved the new secondary characters and their backgrounds, Dina, Jessie, Yara and Lev. I don't believe there was anything political about it. A lot of people (mostly conservative white people) think that showing two girls kissing, a Jewish girl, a trans men and many characters of color is something worth being upset about. Please learn to listen to EVERYONE's stories, don't hate others because you've never been through their experiences and because they don't reflect who you are. You gotta be empathetic and open up your mind to what happens outside of first world countries. These minorities do exist, but they are finally getting some decent visibility. Human lives are not politics.

The game also gave me a lot of time to reflect about how revenge can drive people insane to the point where they give up everything that mattered to them. After Ellie leaves Dina and JJ by the end of the game, all she does is have a pathetic fight with a weak Abby and she realizes just that. Killing Abby wouldn't give her peace or Joel back. Ellie just had to learn how to grief for Joel and that's why she finally broke down once the fight was over. Unfortunately, her selfish decision had left her alone. I really appreciated and loved the symbolism with the guitar Joel gifted Ellie. Leaving the guitar behind was like moving forward from Joel's death instead of not dealing with your feelings. While it's obviously upsetting Ellie can't play like she used to, I do think it's possible for her to learn how to play the guitar again like a left-handed person would, a new beginning.

It's also crazy how in a zombie apocalypse people are killing each other instead of working together to stop the spread of the virus. It reminded me of the pandemic we're all living in right now. It's not that hard to wear a mask, to wash your hands, to social distance and stay home, but a lot of people don't just because they don't want to.

The greatest disease is humans' selfishness.

That bond was always the catchy element of the tlou. The 2nd Game swiftly severed that love. I believe no other story could rectify that . This game may have a powerful story as the critics say, but it is with a dark story and is not what was expected after all waiting for 7 years. They could have atleast upped their execution.

The Gameplay, Sounds, Design all were top notch. Those were the work of the crunched developers rolling through the countless overtime hours they worked for. I could point out the small details that made the Gameplay much more realistic. Looking forward to unique games like the tlou in the future. Gameplay - 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was the game perfect? Absolutely not. It had its flaws, and it took me a while to accept playing as Abby. I absolutely hated it when it swapped back to her after the theater confrontation. "I don't care about her story," I kept saying to myself. I quit playing multiple times, but I came back to it every time because I wanted to experience the story for myself -- and I'm glad I did. If you had told me that by the end I would be begging Ellie to spare Abby, I wouldn't have believed you. It was quite the journey. Expand

    Melhor jogo do ano.

Game of the generation! Just like It's predecessor. This game is brilliant in every way. Not perfect, but there exists no game that is perfect. Loved every minute of it.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
