This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Anyone who doesn't understand why Ellie doesn't kill Abbi is clearly failing to see the amazing emotional journey they all go through. Games in which there's a good guy and and the good guy shoots the bad guy, the end, are many. The idea of seeking revenge on someone who killed someone for the same reason you plan on killing them for, for me is not a black and white matter and I may have made the same decision Elli did. In fact, I was relieved when she didn't kill Abbi. With all the baggage they all carry, and all the **** they've all been through, who knows what the correct decision would be at that point.

I have to say that it took me a while to get used to playing as Abbi, but I managed to connect to her as much as I had connected to Ellie. Overall, loved the game

I pre-ordered this game twice, due to Sony canceling the first from delays. The first came from faith in Naughty Dog’s ability to deliver: verified throughout the Uncharted series and the first part of this series. The second pre-order was a decision I made after hearing that the story was leaked; I avoided the content of the leaks but witnessed the overwhelming negative reaction to them. The only hints I gathered for the plot were based on trailers and pre-leak comments, such as the theory that Joel dies -- which turned out to be correct. My excitement never died down, throughout all delays and controversy. I’ll make some notes about gameplay, but the focus of this review is the story, which has caused the most divisiveness online.

    GAMEPLAY
The gameplay and mechanics are great and drove me to keep playing for hours and hours in a single sitting. I played on Hard and it turned out to be a good balance between pacing and enjoyment (I didn't want to finish the game just for the story). My only problem is that I could rarely pull off the flashy moves seen in the trailers, which showcased incredible interactions with the enemies and environment. I think a future run-through on an easier difficulty will open up those possibilities, though. The ability to go prone was a simple but much-needed addition that made me feel more human and mobile than the first game. Most spaces were navigable and squeezing through narrow spots proved to be a satisfying mechanic.

    CHARACTERS
The newly-added characters are my biggest problem with the game.
In TLOU1, the writing combined with the voice acting resulted in some of the most engaging dialogues and personas I have had the pleasure of experiencing, in any form of media. The game's introduction -- a short and sweet conversation between a daughter and her dad -- had me deeply invested in Sarah and Joel quickly but organically. The Southern twang they spoke with made them unique and real, and contributed to the feeling that I knew who they were. When Sarah was killed, I was feeling the exact sense of dread that Joel felt, and this instantly cemented him as a do-no-wrong protagonist in my mind. Despite this, my positive view on him was constantly challenged throughout the game, though, making him more complex than just a 'good guy in a video game'. None of the other events of the story would have mattered if I didn’t initially care about Joel.

In TLOU2, I only saw this rich character evolution in characters I already knew, and this was because I understood who they were. I could recognize each turning point in their character arc, such as Tommy’s initial indecision on revenge transforming to his irrational desire for it. On the other hand, I could never engage so deeply with additions like Dina, Jesse, or Abby. Part of this was because the voice acting was fairly cookie-cutter, all sharing a rather neutral personality with no distinguishing emotional characteristics. They had stories to tell, but I couldn't care as much for them because they weren't distinct or special. This isn’t to say these characters didn’t undergo an evolution. For example, Abby helping Lev was a turning point for her, but it didn’t feel like one because I couldn’t determine who she was before this change.
Luckily, my enjoyment of the complete experience in TLOU2 made this less impactful than it could've been if, say, the gameplay or story were not as impressive as they were.

    STORY
After my first play-through, I felt the story did not live up to that of the first. This may have been due to preconceptions I garnered from the loud outsiders who bashed the plot before experiencing it. Sometimes, I would find myself picking at tiny details in the story rather than taking in the overall picture. Once I changed my microscopic view to a more holistic one, I came to love TLOU2’s story more than the first. No other game has given me so many different interpretations to the character’s reasonings, or had me questioning their decisions weeks after completion. No other game has drawn such a blurred line between protagonist and antagonist (I still don’t know who’s who). As my appreciation and love for Joel kept growing and growing through the incredible flashbacks with Ellie, a tug-of-war commenced between understanding Abby’s (and humankind’s) revenge while wishing that Joel lived, or at the very least, died a dignified death. This wasn’t the only tug-of-war going on; Ellie's internal conflict for revenge against Abby also left me deeply torn, as did many other decisions and deaths in the story. Despite this, in the end, every single rope broke and the immense pain endured by all parties to ‘win’ meant nothing.

Side note: Joel’s death scene is a masterpiece. The museum flashback is a masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Many good things about the game. However, the story was very disappointing. I went in expecting to have a great experience with the characters I fell in love with in the first game. Not the case...
The pacing of the game was not very good either, felt very stagnant at times, like the game just stopped progressing. The ending was very depressing and disappointing as well. The gameplay could have been better. Felt like no matter what I did to be stealthy I would be forced into a situation of being seen or would be seen while hiding. So stealth was not very good which I personally enjoy the most in games like this. Overall probably won't go back and play again, at least not until a long time has passed and I am looking for a game to just fill my time between new releases.

    -Strong gameplay
    -Intelligent enemy AI
    -Stunning graphics
-Great sound design and visual effects
-Heartfelt flashbacks of Joel and Ellie

    CONS:
-Poorly written, one dimensional side characters
    -Convoluted story with odd pacing
    -Emotionally manipulative
    -Meaningless sex scene
-Hypocritical sense of morality between Abby and Ellie
    -Lack of engaging puzzles
-Transphobia is somehow present in a post apocalyptic world
-The ending It's hard to sympathize with Abby and play as her when she just killed a beloved character in the series. (Ex: If I pointed out a stranger and told you that the stranger was a child abductor, unless you're convinced otherwise, you will not see that stranger in the same light) In the same way, we are forced to play as a character we've already labeled as a cold, heartless killer. Trying to change our mind that she's a better person than we thought is a much more difficult feat to accomplish than just playing that character fresh with no labels attached.

With that being said, this game could have been so much better than what we've experienced. According to Neil Druckman, the game was initially planned to be open world and Abby's gameplay would be at the start of the game (BEFORE YOU KILL JOEL). This alone would have made the game much more palatable. (And would resolve the previous point made earlier about feeling like you're forced to play as Abby)

Neil Druckman could have given the players a choice: Kill Joel/Don't kill Joel and Kill Abby/Don't kill Abby. There could have been alternate endings.

Clearly the idea of morality in this game is hogwash. Abby kills Joel because he killed her dad even though Joel saved Abby in the past. You're telling me Abby couldn't feel the same way that Ellie felt at the end of the game? Both Ellie and Abby were fueled by revenge, but taking revenge was only bad for one of them? For me, the biggest elephant in the room was the nonsensical transphobic cult in a zombie driven world where society and modern culture are stripped away. It can't be helped that this was done to empower the LGBTQ community and there's nothing wrong with that, but at least make it a little more subtle. With all this being said, this game does not deserve neither the vast amount of 0/10 nor the 10/10 scores. Good things and bad things can be said about this game. Ultimately, what made The Last of Us such a special game is completely lost in this sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Look I played the game 3 times already , and here is a quick review of the game in my opinion. 1) story is actually good if you actually understand the point of it. Slightly weaker narrative than the first game 2) Main Characters are excellent. Loved Ellie and Abby, the side characters are mainly plot devices especially Abby’s friends. Wished could’ve learned more about Dina and Jessie they were interesting characters 3) Gameplay is amazing very responsive and smooth. when you play as Abby, she is basically Joel, she can bust up skulls with her bare hands just like joel. Ellie’s gameplay is also well designed. Going stealth as Ellie is the super fun, using the bow with explosive arrows is so satisfying 4) Graphics is AMAZING.
    5) Lastly Joel’s death, yes it’s sad , I’ve seen many people’s reaction to this and majority said that he doesn’t deserve this death and should have a hero’s death. Look man Joel’s no hero, the man did bad things to get what he wants and he literally is a selfish man he literally prevented a cure from happening just so he get a second chance to have a daughter. The reason why we love him so much is because he’s so real , we learned his side of the story and he is a father figure to Ellie. That’s why we adore him so much. But saying he deserves a hero’s death is dumb. Overall love the game so much 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Look, ultimately I found this game to be disappointing. I know, the people that gave this game a 10/10 are going to dog on me and other people like me. People can be disappointed with a product and leave a negative or mixed review, just because they are bringing up valid criticism towards your game does not mean they are trolls or crybabies, they are just looking at the game through a different critical eye than what you are. For me, the story was the biggest let down. The new characters for the most part didn't land with me, and the ones that did are killed off and quickly forgotten, like they never even existed. Leading up to this game there was false advertising on the content of the game and the story, and obviously there's going to be backlash from that. On top of that if you brag about how you intended for your game to be divisive i think you forfeit your right to complain about half your audience not liking your game. This game literally takes the "revenge is bad" storyline and beats you over the head with it over and over again. Gamers are smarter than that, we know "revenge=bad"....we didn't wait 7 years for that. Correction, revenge is bad unless you're Abby. Abby gets her revenge and in my eyes gets away with it. Ellie loses EVERYTHING. It is also blatantly obvious that they go out of their way to force you to like Abby (Hey, look at how Abby plays with dogs, wow such a great person!). Finally, Metacritic, if you are going to be deleting negative or mixed reviews on your website that are clean genuine reviews then please do likewise with the 10/10 reviews that are either clearly copied/pasted, or are clearly made by bots. Otherwise you are just aiding in the score of this game being artificially inflated. However, I don't think you will do anything, as we all know that is a one way street, they will delete only the fake/suspect reviews that are negative (even just outright deleting legitimate negative reviews), but they will leave the fake 10/10 reviews alone. That is how it works. This game IS NOT a 10/10. It is also not a 0/10. Even though I believe this game is a 5/10, realistically it is probably around a 6/10 or a 7/10, at its absolute highest 8/10...but anymore than that and you're just pretending, I'm sorry. Expand

However once I steped in Abbys shoes I was not only blow away by the fact that they are a mirror of each other but also the fact that Naughty Dog made me side more with a character that was just introduced as the villa, over the main protagonist of the previous 2 games.

Abby as a character is strong both physically and morally but she is also very much so human, she has fears, impulses and failures but they all add up to make what I would consider a perfect character.

Loved the game loved the characters and loved the whole broken people in a broken would theme. 10/10

But for me, it is the best part, at first when we were given to control Abby. But this is the beauty that you've to journey along with the person you hate and see her emotions, see her getting peace because hate is not the solution (which she thought she will get after killing Joel. A graphically impressive hollow shell.

The landscapes were also great. However, the fact of playing as Abby, the antagonist and character who killed Joel with a golf club, Is not so best option for the game. The redemption of her isn’t handled very well as we still hate her in the end. Once the game finished she didn’t even die which made it very unsatisfactory for its ending. You, the player, should really have primarily played as Ellie and not Abby at all. Story could’ve been better (excluding the Abby parts would’ve been a fantastic choice to improve up Expand

Gameplay was amazing along side it's graphics, the story however was built in a poor way, I felt that it was mainly focused on Abby more than Ellie, the ending could have been done in a better way such as finding the fireflies and giving Ellie another chance to save the world.

Not to go into to much detail, the game is amazing but the story just destroys everything.

Great and ambitious game that dared to tell a story from both sides of the coin. This is a direct continuation of the previous game, we play as Ellie and Abby (Not at the same time).

Both characters have their own side of the same story, but the story is linear so there are no choices that will affect the outcome of the overall narrative.

Spectacular graphics, bigger levels to navigate through and explore and overall improved controls over the previous game, and the stealth is very good (But could be improved), also the sound design; ambiance, guns, monsters and enemies are over the top, alongside with very polished animations.

Problems i had with the game:
    - Stealth while mostly good it is impossible to do a pacifist run because some levels are designed in a way that two guards dont move from the same position blocking the only way to the exit. Also non-lethal weapons are not existent (This is a problem for me since i like to not kill people in games if i have the opportunity)

    - Also in some levels even though you got pass all the enemies around they will get alerted because the only exit is blocked by a QTE.

    - The story structure; While at the climax of Ellie's story, there is an abrupt rewind where you play as the secondary protagonist to see her side of the story.

    - No skins / funny unlock-ables: Previous game gave you a few skins to have fun while replaying the campaign, almost all games that came from this company (Naughty Dog) have this feature (Eg: Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, Uncharted 4, The last of us), you could unlock in-game stuff like Models, concept art but nothing you can use in the campaign.

At least you have new game+ with all your upgrades and weapons.

No chemistry: Previous game had you sympathize with all its cast (Bill, Tess, Ellie, Marlene), while this game introduces many more characters to the cast you don't feel the same level of attention put into them, at least on the first half of the story, second half introduces a character from a faction known as "Scars" and i liked their part of the overall narrative.

Definitely a game you should try at least once, but overall i did not like a few design choices, mostly stealth levels and sometimes i felt like the game dragged for too long, the story was interesting but overall it didnt captivated me as much as the previous entry.

I just finished it and it has been an awesome journey. I usually don´t finish all the games that I start, just only a few and this one is one of them. The depth of the characters and the story has been was the best part of it.

In my opinion, people are just giving a low score because 1# they are attached to a character from the first game that dies soon and 2# they are uncomfortable with lesbians. That´s it.

First of all I dont think it deserve a 0 to 5 review. I enjoyed the gameplay/combat, and if you enjoyed the first game gameplay then you'll be happy with the slight improvements to this game. Maybe we expected to much? In the end this is the game we got and I think it's fine..... let's talk about the story, I think is kind of a mess. Unfortunately the story just doesn't hold up. Maybe we expected to much? In the end this is the game we got and I think it's fine..... let's talk about the story, I think is kind of a mess. Unfortunately the story just doesn't hold up. The storytelling was just all over the place and so many plot holes, how did they know where joel was or how he looked like? Ok maybe they just got lucky and found him, but still too much to absorb I guess. I found this story to be really depressing and if you had lost a love one or whatever I recommend to wait for a while, because this game really dwells in depression and later PTSD and about dealing with loss and grief. Well to me it does. Yeah I can't deny that I found the story to be a little disappointing on ellie's part and who we have to play through half of the game. Yeah I would give it a 5 in storytelling and about a 7 in gameplay, it's fine and if your curious about playing maybe wait til it goes on sale, but yeah that obviously didn't stop me. Lol Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don’t know where to start. But play The Last Of Us first before embarking on this piece of art. But for me, while avoiding anything that had to deal with this game, months prior to its release and the emerging leaks. I was totally blown away from the hard working craftsmanship from the awesome people over at Naughty Dog, again. From the super smooth and gorgeous graphics to the lively gameplay and very human like characters, it feels like a fresh breeze of air for video games. The smallest details just had me paused and just acknowledge the world that you are role playing in as Joel, Ellie or Abby. Now the narrative is **** awesome from starting as Joel telling Tommy, his brother, the lie he told Ellie that her “immunity meant nothing” when in fact he saved her cause he loves her as almost as a daughter and wasn’t able to save Sarah (please play the first one, the game echos with numerous references to Part I) to the ending where Ellie let’s go of drowning Abby. I was disappointed, at first like why did she let her go? But then I thought about the Thank You letter from Neil Druckmann on behalf of ND. “-a game that we’re incredibly proud of and that we hope will enthrall you and challenge your own views of justice and empathy.” Just my opinion, but if Ellie didn’t go to Santa Barbara to seek out Abby, she would’ve died. But this game is about retribution for Joel’s death through the eyes of Ellie and Abby for why she sought him out. Which is a gnarly chain reaction. The way the team was able to mirror those perspectives, like seeing someone as the “enemy” and then you playing as the “enemy” totally sealed off whether they are the hero or villain. Instead I saw them as two beings fighting in their own theories of justice, which usually ends in violence. And for Joel’s death, yes it was heartbreaking and a punch to the gut, but no one is invincible (even in reality) in this universe and his actions finally caught up to him, he will always be a dope character and I hope they go in depth with him more in the HBO Series, but it was necessary. From his consequences to really pushing Ellie’s and Abby’s narrative it’s just a full circle ending of violence. This game will probably be seen as a modern day “Manhunt” game but really questions, is violence the answer? Really awesome playing during the COVID-19 outbreak, potential showed a dystopian for mankind if we don’t get this fixed, but was unprecedented. So it felt like a festive game, not going to lie. And also the diversity of characters that they brought into as well was like its reflection on society but the aftermath of an apocalypse. But anyways I’m on my New Game + on Survivor, collecting the collectibles, and I haven’t felt this was from a different game since Fallout 3. There’s soo much to explore and see and for it not being really open world, they make it feel like that. Finally I just want to say that seeing Naughty Dog go from Crash Bandicoot (Smash Brandi’s Cootch) to this game just shows how much they’ve grown a lot and my first game that I played ever was from them (Crash). So a big NICE **** JOB will always go to them. Game of the Year for sure and a game to top for the decade. I’m waiting on Part III, please. Expand

    Gameplay - 8/10
I LOVE the stealth oriented gameplay, the areas of gameplay are bigger and more vertical, there are some new fun to use weapons, stealth got better just by being able to crawl, but most of it is pretty much more of the same from the first game, it was just constantly interrupted by cutscenes and the context of the story made me sometimes NOT ENJOY being good at the game. Also too much jump scares, too many times the game forcefully takes all my gear when I just got comfortable with using all of the tools they gave me.

Narrative script and dramaturgy - 5/10
The characters from the previous game were absolutely out of their previous characteristics, one of the most belloved characters from previous game was flatout disrespected by the writers from the very start of the game and awkwardly recalled in flashbacks later to what we actually wanted to see after playing the first game, problem is it was out of beat of funcional story of this genre. My personal and professional oppinion is that this event should have taken place roughly half way through the game, not at the beginning.

Other characters were acting pretty ridiculously knowing who they are what life experiences they all have. The motivation and actions of lots of those characters is just completely crazy and nonsensical. All the constant jumping back and forth between playable characters to explain it, flashbacks and unplayable cutscenes stopped me from getting to know the new characters I was supposed to care for and empathise with them later on in the game. Lots of reasoning the story used either didnt make sense in the reality of that world or was in direct contradiction of what the game tells you couple of scenes earlier.

Lots of smalltalk between characters during gameplay or exploration was cringeworthy not just for me, but for both of my flatmates watching me play the game. It just came off like a fan fiction based on the world of Last of Us 1 written for a specific niche of the audience of the first game, but without fully respecting the previous game.

Lingering on super violent scenes and letting characters that already went through a lot of violence and rought life, but also know peaceful life in safe communities, go through all this crazyness without having anything to reflect on it and just keep on being hellbent on more violence is surprising and shocking and I get what kind of experience they try to create for players, but the first game wasnt like that, it used violence differently when it comes to the main plot of the game, it built suspence and brought points and realisations both to the player and the character that were not so shocking, but emotionally way more hard hitting than anything in this game, I just remember feeling shocked by some cheap jumpscares and disgusted by taking some violent scenes a bit too far and completely let down by the ending.

SO, how would I rate this game overall?
7.5/10 - for the goold old Last of Us gameplay and the technical quality

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Personally I really enjoyed it, and gameplay and storytelling wise, it was a definite improvement since the first game. Only real issue I found was that the final area felt rushed, unpaced or that something larger was cut due to content or time restraints. Other than that, this game was amazing. This review will very quickly summarize the first game, address this current game, and address the constant incredibly false rumors circling many gaming communities.

    This will contain [!!!!SPOILERS!!!!]

The game is a direct continuation, and the story is the complete result of Joel's decision at the end of the first "The Last of Us".

    Last Game Summary
In The Last of us 1, the story is about a man named Joel who is hired to take Ellie, who is immune to the zombie infection, to a specific set of people who would use her to make a cure for the infection, thus saving the planet. The game is mostly about Ellie and Joel bonding, and upon the end where Joel gives her up, he learns that Ellie will have to die in order to save all of humanity. Joel refuses to let her die, so he commits a brutal genocide of the innocent doctors, who are trying to save the planet, and lies to Ellie about what happened. Roll credits, to make the player really think critically about whether or not Joel was the bad guy or not.

    This Game Summary
In the Last of Us 2, It very clearly restates all that happened back to the many many people who didn't quite understand the end of the first game, who genuinely thought it was a happy ending. The story is perceived by 2 people. One is Ellie, the immune girl who Joel lied to her whole life, and who he let her live so everyone can suffer in the zombie hell hole. And Abby, the child of the cure-making, world-saving doctor who was brutally murdered by Joel. Abby on a quest for vengeance on the man who not only murdered her whole family, but also doomed all of humanity, and then to find the rest of her people, and Ellie on a quest to find her uncle and kill Abby, once Abby brutally takes revenge on Joel.

    The story and its symbolism
Both stories are reverse parrels and told in a very artist and symbolic way, causing many who didn't pay attention, have never taken a simple language class or are inept are reading between the lines, be confused or not understand it fully. Allow me to quickly summarize the basic themes.

Abby's story is one of redemption, and filled with many guilt and regret symbolism, especially as it becomes more and more apparent of her horrendous guilt he feels for Joel's murder and the fact that she really only wishes for the cycle of violence to end while trying hard to keep her composure. Her guilt toward Ellie and the realization that she caused Ellie to become similar to her in regards to revenge is a very apparent reason to why she lets her live in every single encounter. Her dreams, that appear in each day, are symbols of regret and that one day she may face her dad. Lev, Her f-m trans companion, is Abby's symbol of innocence and positivity whom she grows closer to as her redemption progresses

Ellie's is the story of anger and hate, started as an innocent girl, and ignited from Joel's death, it builds only in anger and depression. Constantly affected by her Joel/Abby related PSTD, she has constant flashbacks to Joel's death/ has intense handshakes and she pushes everyone away and seeks only violence. Dina is her symbol of innocent and positivity, who Ellie grows more cold and distant to Dina as character regresses.

    False Rumors/Statements

"There were papers in the first game that did say there were other immune children, or that the procedure would not 100% guaranteed"
The first game has no such papers. This is a simple false rumor that is incredibly easy to prove.

"Abby is trans. Male to Female, It's so obvious because she is so jacked"
This is unbelievably wrong. She is just strong.

    Conclusion
The game is great. However, if you were incredibly attached to Ellie and Joel, and honestly believed that the first last of us had a happy ending and that Joel's horrific actions were justified you may not like this game. That or if you're some moronic incel who can't play a decent game just because the MC is female

The story is beautifully written and told, I mourned the loss of Joel, it made me emphatize when I didn't wanna to, with a Abby, whom I really disliked for a major chunk of the game. Then I understood, I second guessed the decision of Ellie, which I saw destroyed by the loss and hunger of blood. I just wanted her to stop and find peace with Dina, no more tears no more hurt.

well, the game was good, good gameplay and good graphics, but the story, the story was not the best, but I could entertain myself with some things and have a good time, I recommend the game but TLOU 1 is better

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Whether you like this game or not is going to be completely subjective. Youre going to have to play it for yourself and see how it hits you. For me, it got me to feel so many things. I really thought I was going to hate the game. SPOILERS When you get to play as Abby, the game feels unbearably long, because of the tension in the theater you just left. All I could think of was getting back there to figure out what the hell happens. Plus you hate Abby. When they tried to get me to feel for her i wasnt biting. I did not care about her, or her past, or her relationships. She killed Joel. But I thank God they did draw it out, because that gave me the time I needed to humanize and forgive Abby. They got me so late in Abby's story. When I saw what she went through to help those Scars, I didnt see a villian anymore. I saw an actual person with a good heart. When her friend scolds her and tells her shes not a good person and Abby breaks down because she can't seem to forgive herself either. She wasnt happy with what she did but I think she was looking for peace just like Ellie was trying to do when she went back for Abby. The game made me go from this completely one-sided blind hatred, to compassion and wanting nothing but the best for her. I WRESTLED WITH MYSELF pushing the attack buttons on the final scene. That was unlike anything I have ever experienced, and though the pacing mightve been screwy to some, I could not imagine any other way to do it. The way it moved me up and down gets a Fat 10 outta 10. Gameplay super intense and fun too but I just wanted to talk about the story lol. Expand

My goooooood. I didn't thought, when I went to my electronic retailer and bought it, that it would be so tough in the end. I needed like 1 month for my playthrough, because sometimes there was so much storytelling, I just didn't want to go trough it so fast (that doesn't mean it's short, it's a hell of a long game).
Every penny is worth the time you spend in this artwork.
    I enjoyed it so

I enjoyed it so much, I even got my mom to play sometimes with me because she was so interested in what's happening when I updated her.
Don't be influenced by the bad reviews, if you're emotional, world open and up for a **** great story, then buy this game an search every corner for another loot-item. You won't regret it !

As others have said, the story will be polarizing. I recommend being prepared to let go of expectations, and not focusing on what you think is a story with a moral. DOn't let your current circumstances cloud your vision to what this game achieves. Independent of time, this game will make you feel what it is like to be a human being struggling to survive a (much more severe) pandemic, and does so without pandering to the age-old game narrative of "good" vs "bad. Towards the end, I felt like **** and wanted the game to end a few hours earlier. But I'm not even mad - IIn retrospect, I enjoyed the grueling last few hours.

My only complaints are that the game mechanic of searching every corner of the level after killing everyone somewhat breaks the pace, and at times it is incredibly frustrating to be searching for a safe code and accidentally go past that level's point of no return, causing you to save before every door out of fear of having to redo the chapter. These both break the immersion, but not enough to remove more than 1 point from my score.

There is also the occasional bug (e.g. reloading levels changes items, and sometimes I was shot into space or stuck in walls). No big deal.

Do yourself a favor and play this game and explore the way you feel while doing it. Even if you are upset about certain beats in the story. It is only a story, and if you pay attention, it takes you to interesting places.

Deep, complex, emotional, intense, wonderful. First: Its a big mistake to compare with first game (if not played you miss a lot of the sequence). Second: If you expected a "zombie" game or a terror game, you will be disappointed. Observe the rating of specialized critics and the users, so different, and why? Because The Last of Us part II is not a game for all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Excellent game, extraordinary gameplay, graphics, music, and, storyline, not 9-10 cause there are certain decisions thar are not coherent with Joel's character and some forced and unnecessary inclusive comments and scenes about Elli and Dina's relationship.

**** them, this is a god damn masterpiece
Playing it is the best decision I made this year
Most of the negative reviews are just made by people who don't accept a new character to show up and see the old one dies in the way that's not dramatic as they wish
    Which is dumb

A whole lot of questions, but there's no room for questions in the human eye, and a great piece of work is enough to see the sparkle, the highlight. You can ignore a lot of issues. If a player's vote now can contribute to what kind of game they will play later, then I have to give TLOU2 full marks for I want to play more of these games, not the stereotypical, gamer-pleasing generic commercial 3A.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the gameplay is plenty good/satisfactory it is nothing groundbreaking. However, the storytelling is an absolute masterpiece. The notably wide variety of interpretations, controversy and opinions is telling of that. This is not a clean cut plotline with a twist here or there. There are so many layers and depth to all of the characters and the fact that they tied it all together so well is incredible.

The complete reversal of Abby and seeing her develop as a character took me entirely by surprise. I definitely plan to play through in its entirety to draw in everything I can. Highly recommend.

The game is not for everyone, you need a level of maturity in order to understand it and also try to be open minded during the entire gameplay if you want to have the experience that this game wants to give you. One thing that I can guarantee you is that this game is not about revenge, but about consequences. Try to accept that all characters are human, the game will constantly remind you that.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
