This game literally shocked me because it is not what I expected in this game with regard to the trailer State of play. Did you know? I was really motivated to buy this game because of the scene at the end of the trailer, we clearly saw Joel grab Ellie by surprise ... And the following was:

    - Ellie: What the hell are you doing here? - Joel: You think I'd let you do this on your own.

But in the game they put another character in place of Joel, Seriously it disgusted me to see this scam in the gameplay so much that ... I ejected the game from my game console immediately and I won't play this game anymore ...
I expected to continue the game with Joel, but why did you lie to us like that Naughty dog? it's contemptuous for your fans.

After playing it a more couple times later i suddenly had this weird felling about the story, i started to like it less all of the sudden, something inside me didn't like how things were happening anymore. that was the point where i started liking the game less and less. time passed and after not playing for while i came and started playing again but this time, i felt like i was understanding the events more and more, many things made better sense and that was the point i found my true felling about the game. TLOU2 changed my life forever exactly how TLOU1 did, but it wasn't perfect. it seems like the writers changed their mind along the process of making the game. i can't really say they made the right decision or not, but they didn't made a bad one for sure. They decided to end the revenge cycle after all. After all that saying that the game is not amazing is truly unfair. Expand

Without a doubt this is the best game I've ever played. The graphics are outstanding, the story is compeling deep and breathtaking. This is NOT your story. You have the right to tell you dont like but that doesnt make the game what you say it is. Grow up.

In my opinion, what makes the first entry so good was the breaking of stereotypes and the deep care for its characters. This game does that as good or even better. It makes you feel desperated and anxious at first just to make the player feel disorientated, without knowing what to do or to think or what to expect. Then everything changes and you enter in a storm of emotions just to realize everything has a reason, even though we may not like it.

Was this game worth it? YES, every minute I've played it (around 30h just in one playthrough) and every cent I've spent. If you are searching for a stroy that makes you THINK and an appeling but brutal and cruel world, this is your game. If you want a game with the story you already have in your mind, go for another one, this is not for you.

As a big fan of the first game, which I still consider to have the best story in any video game so far, I was truly conflicted with the change but I said I wanted to see where this was going. Is it possible to forge a relationship with someone who just killed a beloved character? We see her fears and hopes and where her hate comes from. Slowly but surely we don't see her as a 2d character but one that has hopes and wishes and flaws and strength. There are some really heart wrenching scenes and gameplay which aren't suppose to make you feel goody and such. It was planning on making you feel like the character. They managed to do this so well in the first one and managed to do it here as well. The gameplay really got a lot better, one of the things I found to be a bit mediocre in the first one. The graphics are stellar and overall the story kept me wanting to know more and see where this was headed. I couldn't wait to get home and play it. It challenged me, made me sad, angry, happy, disgusted. I do recommend it wholeheartedly. I haven't had this range of emotions and in any game or movie for a long time. The bad reviews that came out the 19th of June should be taken with a lot of skepticism since there is no way that they can have grasped the full range of it all. I can see that you either hate or love this and the middle ground is pretty thin on this one. For me this was a great game which I will come back to and play again. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a game. I just finished it and felt compelled to write my first ever review on here, due to the review bombing I have been hearing about. The Last of Us Part II is an emotional rollercoaster. Things happen that you wish didn’t, characters make heartbreaking decisions that inevitably have tragic consequences. A lot of fans seem to be mad about the story. Unfortunately in life, and it seems in post-apocalyptic futures, things are complicated. We all have our own goals and ambitions, and sometimes this can lead to conflict with others. This game wonderfully illustrates that just because we might dislike someone we’re not necessarily better than them or more right. I personally loved playing as Abby and seeing events from her perspective. As her section progressed I began to see her as right and Ellie as wrong. I didn’t know who to root for at the end. And the writers deserve a huge amount of credit for that. The game is visually stunning. The world they have built over at Naughty Dog is nothing short of miraculous. The gameplay is fine, although sometimes I found my NPC allies getting in the way a bit. Some of the fights are incredibly intense. In general I’m a sneak and kill player, as you have to be at times in this world to look after your resources. But there are certain fights you can’t avoid. The sequence in the lower floors of the hospital were truly terrifying, but completely exhilarating. The kind of gameplay that you can’t wait to finish but then instantly want to have a go at again once you’ve done it. To wrap up, if you’re mad about the story then you’ve missed the point in my opinion. Ellie and Joel are not saints. They’ve done some terrible things to survive. Same goes for Abby. She is no worse than them, and they are no better than her. And if it’s the LGBT stuff or the abundance of non-white characters in the game that has angered you, then it’s about time you joined the rest of us in the 21st Century. I thought Lev’s storyline in particular was fantastic. No if you excuse me, I need a lie down before my next play through! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Я прошёл The Last of Us 2!
Мне кажется у первой The Last of Us не должно быть продолжения, это законченная история.

Expand

Leaving the "misleading marketing" prior to launch and the "questionable story line" they went with aside, the game is an absolutely miserable experience. Every single character either dies a horrible, brutal death or goes through a hellish sequence of events before the end credits start to role. Who would ever want to play such a sad game? There is nothing goes that comes of it, no silver lining, no compensation for all the suffering everyone involved goes through (including the play). On the contrary of the majority of reviews I’m not mad about Joel dying, since the trailers were released it was obvious that something was gonna happen to him, and that Ellie was going to be moved by that. That’s the whole point of the story, Ellie’s revenge. Both story lines present two human characters who have suffered from the loss of an important person, the story forces you to feel emphatic about both girls and understand that they are antagonists, one will fight the other. The story made me feel nostalgic, terrified, angry... and that end seems perfect to me. Ellie realizing that revenge consumed her, and forgiving Joel. As a parent this game (especially the ending) hit me a lot harder than I initially expected, I'm not afraid to admit the game had me crying on multiple points. This is a true masterpiece in story telling and and world design. When we watch something like G.O.T or Breaking Bad we remember the ending and the journey that took us there. The last of us part 2 still has me thinking about the powerful ending and the journey starting from the last of us 1 that led me there. The questionable decisions the characters are forced to partake in and the consequences for their actions will forever be engraved in my memory and I don't plan on losing those memories for the rest of my life. This game is no longer just a game that I was personally more hyped for than anything (including cyberpunk), this is now a part of my life, a part of my history and it feels like a piece of me is missing whenever I finish and have to realise this may be the last we see of Ellies journey, our journey together. I rated this game just above average cause it has some good tho HD going for it like the graphics the sound music acting game mechanics the worlds the art design and the hand to hand combat the new infected creatures are a nice thing. My issue with the game is the direction they took with it as the game went along I found my self getting less interested and that’s a shame cause usually it goes the other way. Being forced to play as Abby didn’t help I just kept saying to myself I don’t care can we just get back to Ellie. The pacing is also off there are kinks of this game were I was just like let’s move this along but I get it they want you to scavenge for supply’s and go slow with stealth. I knew they would kill Joel off I just thought he’d get a better send off and maybe we could play his death instead of it being a cutscene we play as Joel up until he dies then we play as Ellie it’s just a thought I had. I'll make this quick and easy, the game is phenomenal, I sit in the group of fans that think The last of us Part 1 didn't need a sequal, I would have been happy to just imagine a future for Joe & Ellie then actually experience it. Saying that though Last of us part 2 hit everything correctly! It could of really been two games.

I dislike when developers bring outside world issues to video games because its usually done poorly but the way the team managed to weave PTSD & Transgender themes to the game without making it "Trans right movement" was perfect and didn't distract from what was going on but actually added to it.

I'm a major fan of the first Last of Us game and Factions, and I went into this game with an open mind. I completed the game on Hard mode recently, and I thought about it for a couple of days.

The parts of the game where it truly shines are gameplay, graphics, music, and voice acting. While the story was engaging, there is some room for improvement.

I found the gameplay to be fun and tense with very limited resources, and more thrilling as the game progressed. The dodge mechanic is one of the best additions to movement. Infected are much more aggressive and dangerous, and the human enemies are much smarter at spotting and flanking you (at least on the harder difficulties). Stealth feels very rewarding as a result. Exploration feels more organic as the environments are much larger than the first game. A standalone Factions mode using these gameplay mechanics has a lot of potential, as I rarely grew bored of it.

Graphics are phenomenal. This is hands-down one of the best looking games on PS4. It's sometimes hard to look at some of the kills in this game because the brutality is on full display with these graphics.

The music is mainly used in the background to build tension, and it perfectly matches the dark tone of the game.

Voice acting is top-notch as to be expected with every Naughty Dog game.

While I thought the story was good in world building and asking difficult questions when it comes to the themes of vengeance, the game could have been better crafted with regard to the pacing. I found it difficult to feel the type of emotion the first game was able to pull from me due to the weird structure or order of the story (you'll know what I mean if you've played it). At one point, I felt that I had to force myself to finish the game early just to see how earlier scenes play out. This was a little frustrating.

Another aspect that will turn some players (not all players) off is the SJW politics present in the game. While the story does pass over these moments quickly and they do not really draw away from the character development, it sometimes take me out of the moment (mainly some cringe a little in the early game).

Overall, the game has fun gameplay with a story that, while does not live up to the story of the first game, is above average and worth playing for yourself.

Gracias Naugthy Dog..Thank you Naugthy Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The relationship between the protagonists is only superficial in comparison and the character development isn't great either.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved it.
It looks amazing, it feels amazing and the story is very good. I loved Joel but let me say this, he was a selfish and heavily flawed person. Did he deserve to die? Absolutely. Did I want him to die? No, but I understand that his actions and decisions lead him to this point and got himself killed. To me it didn't seem a cheap plot device. What's that? He would never do that and introduce himself to strangers? How tf do you know that? In a post apocalyptic world, where you've been chased by infected, you stumbled upon a living being who helped you and your brother escape, gave you shelter, and they clearly outnumber you so being hostile is not an option, you wouldn't want to be decent and help out? You guys are idiots. Joel started in the first game as cold and distant with Ellie being an optimistic, happy and warm person. By the end of the game, and beginning of the 2nd one they have changed. Ellie turned cold because of the things they went through and because she lost her meaning of life, and Joel grew to Ellie who he'd see as a daughter and would do anything to make happy. This is character development. They are changed by their actions. The Ellie and Abby part - you know what? Overall Abby is a better person that Ellie.

Abby killed Joel because he killed her father. What did Ellie do? Kill all her friends on her quest to avenge Joel whilst putting all her own friends in danger and abandoning them. She had a peaceful life with Dina by the end, but she blew it because she wanted to go back to find and kill Abby, and so she rightfully was abandoned by Dina. But Ellie also changed as a person as did Abby.
And that is what I loved. Ellie realised that the whole revenge theme would just endlessly go around in circles unless someone put an end to it and she did. She stopped the cycle of killings. You will say that this decision wasn't in her character and I will argue that it was. After she killed Mel and Owen something flipped in her mind. Ever since that incident she seemed unsure. She didn't pursue Abby when they finally found eachother. She started a new life with Dina but needed a push from Tommy to make her change her mind and find Abby again. Then when she finds her, she doesn't just kill her while she is strapped to that pole but instead cuts her loose only to be pushed again by flashbacks to challenge Abby once more until she realizes that this would only lead to more revenge. That is character development. She struggles and changes as a person. Do I feel bad for her at the end for losing everything? Yes. But she deserved it. What about Abby? I liked the idea of playing from her perspective even if we hated her for killing Joel. She had a good reason and I already explained that Joel wasn't a saint and he clearly had it coming. We see her develop just as Joel did in the first game. She goes from a vengeful and cold person with the reputation of one of the most fierce Scars killers, to a protective sibling figure to two fugitive children. She goes out of her way to help them knowing that she might get in trouble with her group and Issac.
In Santa Barbara we see a changed optimistic, and by the end fed up with all the violence Abby. Even when she can barely stand up on her feet she still cares for and protects Lev. If this isn't character development then I don't know what is..

This was their story not ours. We were merely spectators of their journeys that's why we didn't get to decide whether Abby dies or not. And I am grateful for that. I am subtracting one point for the discontinued feeling it gave me when we shift to the scenes from the farm after they parted ways with Abby and because the looting and stealth kills were a bit repetitive. Other than that it's a 9 from me.

You gotta see the characters as they are. I get it that you loved the Joel and Ellie dynamic but just because your favourite character dies it doesn't mean that you have to run around stomping and crying like little b*itches because you didn't get the candy you wanted. Life sucks, and it doesn't always go our way. In life we get what we deserve and if a game wants to portray realistic scenarios then they have to do exactly that. Disappointment, loss, betrayal, sadness these are all bound to happen in a post apocalyptic world. Just because you don't like the decisions Druckmann took doesn't mean they're bad. Try to be objective instead of being as**ole crybabies.

Yes the writers could simply follow the same route as the first game and create an unlimited number of straight forward revenge stories (in a similar way that games like Uncharted rehash their stories with each release) but they didn't and credit to them for taking a risk. I feel that the story will make a fantastic series now it has been picked up by HBO. We may have to passively watch rest of the story unfold as I wouldn't be rushing into making a third installment for a ungreatful audience. 10 out of 10 easily best game I've played on PS4. .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed The Last Of Us Part II. There are many heartbreaking and shocking moments in the game, but they are balanced by the many very intense, action moments. Overall I loved the game, the part with Ellie was increadable, with her going on this brutal path of revenge. If I could change the story I would only change two things, the part with Abby being this long, I wish we could get to play with Ellie even more and I hope we can get to play with Ellie more in part III.The second thing would be to not kill Joel this early in the game or give him a hero’s death, other from that I wouldn’t change anything else. The gameplay is just phenomenal, I don’t think I have ever played a game where the gameplay and all of the animations are that smooth, every fight encounter feels very realistic and intense. However, I think, the part with Abby wasn’t as good as the part with Ellie, but I understand why ND let us play as Abby, it’s to try to create empathy for Abby. Overall the game is amazing and I know some people didn’t like the ending, but the ending is a lot more than just an ending, it perfectly sets up perfectly for part III Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is gonna be my honest review about the Last of Us Part 2. I will start by saying I love the first game, it's probably in my top 3 of all time. What made that game so great? The characters and the journey of the story.
So when you already kill the main character of the first game in the first 2h of the game, that's really hard to take in. I just want to be clear on something: I don't have a problem with Joel dying, but I have a problem with how it was executed. It was just so unrealistic and stupid and something Joel & Tommy never would have done. That really put a damper on me liking the game. The problem in itself is that ND lied about the game in the trailers. Nothing was indicating Joel was dying in the first couple of hours and I'm gonna guess 90 % would have wanted a story/journey with Joel and Ellie again. The positive things about this game is of course the graphics, amazing AI and great combat. But what does that do when after 2 hours of the game and u don't feel engaged in the story anymore? So I did play it, but I never really enjoyed it. The fact that you have to play as Joel's killer in half the game also made me seriously consider putting the controller down. This is ND weakest game to date and they have to seriously do something special to hook me the way they have done before as I won't really trust what they will put in the trailers of their next game, whatever that is.

Like most I agree, decent gameplay but an absolutely terrible story. Might not be so bad if it didn’t follow up a masterpiece.

In the beginning, I became intrigued and excited to dive deeper into this world. Then I was quickly reminded of the lousy gunplay mechanics that are still in this game. What kept me wrapped in was the music and the storyline—continuously meeting new characters that begin to mean nothing to me. Sporadic story structure toward the end that honestly just makes me sick. It almost feels like they didn’t know how to end the game, so they gave us three different endings at the same time. I feel like it’s a disservice to the first game. When the game turns out to be two dollars at GameStop (if there is a GameStop), That’s when I would recommend you to buy this. Expand

Wow, what a waste of 70 bucks. I don't mind the story at all, but the horrendous linear gameplay and combat feels like a game from maybe 10 years ago? I forced myself to play ~10 hours cos I payed big money for this. Graphics are absolutely stunning, so there is still that...
Biggest gaming related disappointment of my life.

From a technical standpoint, this game is absolutely stunning hats off to the graphics department. From a gameplay standpoint this game is fun when you're actually playing. There's a big boss battle here that should be explored and expanded if a third installment is introduced. The cordycep zombies mutation gives great opportunity to create great massive enemies. There's a big boss battle here that should be explored and expanded if a third installment is introduced. The cordycep zombies mutation gives great opportunity to create great massive enemies. The issues with this game lies in the story. This is spoiler free. I am a big fan of TLOU. This next installment seems to be at war with itself between the story it's trying to tell and the gameplay. A stealth/shooter game is not the best way to tell this story. This story actually works much better as a movie than it does a game. This story is about revenge/trauma/ PTSD/ guilt/ and forgiveness. That's a very hard thing to pull off when you are killing countless enemies for entertainment. What you have is a story not matching the avenue that is being used to tell it. There is also too many cut scenes and flashbacks used. It leaves the gamer holding the remote doing nothing and I always advice against it. The first game added a significant portion of it's narrative to the actual gameplay it made it more entertaining. But sometimes, when you make choices and write yourself in a corner you have to use flashbacks to get yourself out. Flashbacks are a very weak narrative tool and must be used wisely. This game went too hard at this. This is why the story was average at best which hurts a narrative game's replayability to a certain degree. The gameplay is tense, yes there's a form of repetitiveness from it but there's only so much you can do inside the world that was built. It feels tense throughout especially at harder difficulties. Overall, I enjoyed playing this game. This is not 10/10 game of the year material reviewers are saying. It's also not the trash people are claiming it to be because they are mad at the story's direction. It's a solid 7 out of 10 that will inevitably be in the running for game of the year and inevitably lose. From a story standpoint it's weaker than it's predecessor. Most everything else is an improvement. Graphics: 10

Awesome game , they did something completely different and I can understand why some people might be mad but when we look at it from an outside perspective we realise that our beloved characters are part of an unforgiving world where revenge and survival are at its core. Neil Druckmann you had the opportunity to make at least 4 million users a great gaming experience. But you choose to make the worst storry you have ever made. Wrong arguments, wrong story, wrong new characters. This game sold that many copies just for the frist game, this one is dissapointing and has a worse end than game of thrones for sure.

Phenomenal game. Despite all the negative reviews it really worked for me. If you’re looking for a feel good game or a game with an ending that brings finality, this game is not for you. I felt uncomfortable often, but much like the first game after it’s over you’re left thinking about the choices made. Gameplay was stunning, amazing graphics! Can’t wait for the multiplayer experience!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The plot of the story is silly, even if you had read the script I'm sure you would think it's fanfic. Basically Joel, a person who in the first part was a cautious, intelligent and cunning person decides to tell him his name and invites to his city a large number of strangers who surround them and who triple the number of people and weapons. Well, after Joel dies like a squashed and tortured cockroach, Ellie decides to do what everyone would do, seek revenge. After controlling Ellie and killing a couple dozen or even hundreds of people and some friends of Abby's, the game comes up with the wonderful idea of forcing us to control for about 10 hours the most disgusting, psychopathic and moody character that can exist, that's Abby. The game in many parts is boring, you get tired of having to put up with such a hypocritical character as Abby and it is even lazy to continue the game, since in many parts it feels as if they are unnecessarily extended. The game tries to force "empathy" with Abby, but for someone who played the first the last of us and understood the character of Joel and the reason for his actions, it is impossible for you to like Abby, she is just a hypocritical character, that he did the same thing as Joel on various occasions in the game, abby's own father admits in flashbacks that he would do the same thing that Joel did. But hey, after 10 hours controlling the insufferable Abby, and many more hours controlling the bipolar Ellie, he decides not to avenge Joel at the end of the game because revenge is bad and he lives the power of friendship. Are you telling me that he murdered half the United States but just when he has the origin of all his misfortunes in his face, he does not decide to kill her? Ultimately, they wasted what could have been a good game in vain to deliver such a repetitive, ridiculous and unoriginal message as "revenge is not good." By the way, the foul play ND did of putting Joel in the game trailers and not saying or putting anything at all that we were going to control a character named Abby for almost half the game is pathetic and unfortunate. Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
