    Clearly, the people review bombing this game are used to getting exactly what they want. How often do you play a tragic hero? One whose flaws are insurmountable? One who would be at home in one of Shakespeare's plays? Oh, and she's a lesbian too?!

    The answer is never. Gamers play characters that are so one-dimensional that, when they finally do encounter a situation which requires them to be uncomfortable, they want to beat it with a flaming stick.

    The resulting hate is toxic. It's also baseless. First, there are the criticisms that TLOU2 has too much "diversity". Ellie is a lesbian, as shown in the 2014 expansion The Last of Us: Left Behind. Not only is it old news, but who cares? Dina, Ellie's girlfriend, is bisexual. The only other "diverse" character is Lev (biological female) who at 13 tells his sister that he wants to be a soldier and doesn't feel like the others, presumably meaning that he doesn't feel like a girl.

    That's it. That's the diversity. Three characters (I suppose four if you count the long-dead Riley) out of about 20. The game begins amid controversy when Ellie and Dina kissing publicly leads to a townsperson calling her a "dyke". Little did the directors know that many gamers would apparently be on the side of the bigot.

    Second, Joel dies early on - as was leaked and led to the majority of the review bombing. We come to love Joel, and seeing him die sucked. It really did. Which is exactly how the designers wanted you to feel. It's not what gamers want, and now they're throwing their petty little tantrums. If storytelling is eliciting strong emotions in people, then the designers hit the nail on the head, through this and other decisions. I was uncomfortable and disappointed when I had to play Abby after she had killed Jesse (and I thought Tommy too), but the directors slowly and masterfully make you empathize with her. By the end, Ellie seems like the bigger piece of **** and more worthy of death. That move is the most ambitious piece of storytelling a game developer has taken on in years.

    Third, both professional and user reviews say that characters are one-note and that they don't make sensible decisions. I agree with the criticism that the characters are one-note to some extent. It's a revenge story, and by necessity they need to, well, seek revenge. They're playing a part in an overall story. The story is on rails, unlike a lot of games these days where you get to decide the outcome of the player-character's life.

    As for Ellie's decisions making no sense, which is related to the one-note thing, consider that Joel is her only parental figure - he dies in front of her. Consider also that her first girlfriend / crush died in front of her - Ellie may have even had to kill her when she became infected - and she was a child at the time. Ellie clearly has PTSD, as shown in the game. Her decisions may not make sense to people who were not children growing up in a warzone, but they make sense given the environment she grew up in and the things she had to do to survive. Consider the number of soldiers choosing to do multiple tours and leaving their families behind. Ellie's decisions are not abnormal. If anything, they make perfect sense.

    A final criticism I feel is worth addressing - the plot holes everyone is referring to. Reading into this further, it's that they don't like the ending where both Abby and Ellie spare each other's lives. One professional review even says that Ellie's decision process to spare Abby is not shown to the player. Ummm... did they not see Ellie's facial expression as she was drowning Abby? The fear, desperation, and growing disgust in what she was doing? Did they miss the flashback to Joel sitting peacefully, making her realize that it won't change how dead he is and that he eventually chose a life of peace?

    As for Abby... yeah, I'm sure tons of concentration camp survivors grabbed shotguns and started mowing down Nazis with their - oh wait, they were emaciated and weak and just wanted to GTFO. So was Abby. Apparently people don't like it when it's just another revenge story. And then they don't like it when there's no revenge and the characters actually go through some kind of transformation.

    People, don't believe the hate. This is the toxicity writhing its way through the American heart and finding its way into a masterfully told game. It's unfortunate that it comes at a time where the average person just can't take all that diversity and emotional depth. A thought - maybe that's exactly what they need. If the majority are bombing this game for the reasons above, I'm fine being part of the counterculture.

    The gameplay is a huge evolution of the first.
    The story is something i've never seen in a game before.
    This game is not for happy endings, this game is not for heroic characters with heroic deaths. It's realistic, and those who do not understand It will surely hate it.    … Expand

    A terrible piece of writing. While the visuals are good there is way too much dead time. You don't feel anything great from the story after a while. I just can't believe this happened. Whoever thinks this is good I don't know how but good for you. Thanks Naughty Dog. Toss this game in the basement and never open it again....

    Геймлей:
    Не смотря на то, что игру делали 6 лет, в плане геймплея игра претерпела минимальные изменения, по сравнению с первой частью. Стелс остался без изменений. Собаки добавляют некую сложность, которая абсолютно не изменяет основную фабулу игрового процесса. Также появились новые филеры : перебрасывание черз балки проводов и заплывы по небольшим водоёмам с периодическим погружением под воду. Да, забыл упомянуть, в игре есть улучшения для оружия, но оно не приносят новых эмоции или и нового игрового опыта. Складывается такое ощущение,что данную механику добавиили просто так, чтобы было и не более того.
    Саундтрек:
    В игре музыки на порядок меньше, чем в первой части. Единственное радуют периодические песни под гитару от Элли, которые лишь глубже погружают в атмосферу затянувшегося пост-апокалипсиса.
    Сюжет:
    Вся линия с Элли проработана на высоком уровне. Дракман отлично развивает историю отношений Элли и Джоила. Но когда в сюжет врывается Эбби, сразу понимаешь, что человек, прописавший её, плохо выполнил свою работу. Из-за того, что Дракман решил добавить этого персонажа в сюжете появляются дыры и неувязочки. Главный врач из первой части, по совместительству отец Эбби, вдруг резко меняет цвет кожи, с чёрного на белый. Также абсолютно непонятно почему Эбби, услышав имя Джоил резко бросается на него, не зная наверняка, тот ли это Джоил. Причём как я понял, кроме имени, фамилии и примерного места проживания наша антагонистка ничего больше не знала.
    Следующая проблема игры это неграмотно расставленные эмоциональные акценты. Финальная битва смотрится абсолютно лишней. Если бы авторы предложили игроку выбор: убивать или не убивать Эбби игра вызвала бы намного больше эмоций. Также осознание и прощение у Элли происходит очень резко и внезапно.
    Основная идея автора ясна, но её реализация оставляет желать лучшего. Именно из-за этого игра от меня получает среднюю оценку. Naughty Dog создали великолепную атмосферу пост-апокалипсиса, но крайне халтурно проработали главную мысль и второго главного персонажа. Почему друзья Эбби так преданы ей? Что их так сильно связывает? Почему группировка Псы, убивающая каждого встречного странника, должна вызывать сочувствие у игрока? Эти вопросы к сожалению остаются без ответа.    … Expand

    First the game makes you angry and then sad as never, I never felt emotions playing video games like I did with the last of us 1 and part 2

    Obviously one of the biggest sony launch ever and by far the worst , the story was written by amateur writers who though they were deep by killing 90% of the characters , well guess what , they failed and its a piece of trash.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am disappointed and heartbroken. I bought this game for beloved characters Ellie and Joel. It seems like game wants to get you to like Abby and it tried very hard that you are forced to play her for a very long time. This where it gets wrong when you buy a ticket for your favorite music concert but you get tricked because you expected your favorite singer to be there and he is but decide to give the stage to someone else unknown to you. When Abby breaks into the theater and confronts Ellie the game takes you way back in time and I was not planning to play 10 hours of her but the game force you anyway. While playing as her all that is going through my mind is what is going to be the outcome at the theater which I had to wait very long time. It is like when you are watching your favorite movie and you get to the climax you have been waiting for and then you get hit by an ad- that is what it felt like. I got no interest in Abby or her story after she killed Joel just take me to the theater. But no the game decided to get you on Abby sides by playing 10 hours of her. At times it was like maybe this is it but wait there is more and more. I feel like I played more as Abby than Ellie. 2020 could not get any worse and devloper decided to do this.… Expand

First, it pretty much forgets the mechanics that made the first game so fun, substituting them for basic interaction from the world built.     Got 12 hrs in the game. Really disappointed. As we all know, story is absolute garbage. Therefore, I am still expecting there is a significant combat improvement than the previous installment.. and the answer is BIG NO. ofc if we are talking abt the graphic it is stunning, but if we want that only, just play RDR2 insead

The gameplay is okayish, nothing really new and refreshing and kinda repetitive (too much repetitive). The story is, in my opinion, really bad. I see what they tried to do, but simply failed. After finishing, I jumped online to see people's reaction to a game that I thought was awesome. Sure, the ending was bittersweet and the beginning wasn't exactly a hole in one for me, but, as a package, I believe thatWhile I understand many of the criticisms for this game, I enjoyed it. Thankfully, I managed to avoid all spoilers and discussion of this game prior to my first play-through. After finishing, I jumped online to see people's reaction to a game that I thought was awesome. Sure, the ending was bittersweet and the beginning wasn't exactly a hole in one for me, but, as a package, I believe that this game accomplished something incredible. The immersion is next-level and YouTube has a sweep of videos praising it for this quality. While many are criticizing the game for its story, I found it thought-provoking. As a friend of mine, Arthur Morgan, once said, "revenge is a fool's game" and this game showed that. In a post-apocalyptic world nothing is black and white-- everything falls into the morally grey. This was seen with Joel in the first game through Joel's comments on his past and his action of saving Ellie. As for the LGBT "pandering," I did not find it too intrusive and I'm a conservative Christian. My only criticism of it was that it was a little immersion-breaking at times. What are the odds that you would meet 2 lesbians, 1 transgender person, and 2 pregnant women over the course of 3 days? They are MUCH lower than the game makes them out to be. Seems a bit unrealistic in my opinion. So, as mentioned previously, this game as a package was a truly awesome experience and regardless of what you've heard it will be worth the 60 dollar price tag.… Expand

    Wow... what an experience! Enjoyed every second of this masterpiece. Thought provoking, complex, bleak... In all the best ways. This one is going to stay with me for a long long time

    I've just finished my 2nd playthrough, and my only complaint with the game was that I had to turn on a few of the navigation accessibility options to get through some of the more challenging and/or open levels and puzzles. I think that's more of an issue with me as a player, and a credit to the studio for allowing me a solution. There are some decisions I'd prefer changed, in regards to the order in which the story beats play out, but that's a minor gripe when I can sing high praises for the other parts of the story that I loved. Even if you don't necessarily like the story, the gameplay and technology on display here is insane. I played through very stealthy on the default difficulty the first time and it was fun but standard stealth action fare; it was when I let loose on a custom difficulty and just faced the music head on that the game really shined for me. You will see bits of gameplay that you'd swear were a cutscene. It's mesmerizing. It's a very violent good time.… Expand

When the sequel was announced, I was conflicted as to whether it would be a good thing to continue a story that ended on a note that intentionally left questions unanswered. But I was optimistic that if the writing was near or equal in quality to the original, and the advancements in technology were fully utilized, that the game would be a worthy continuation of Joel and Ellie's story. Unfortunately, aside from some scarce moments where the spirit of the original game is allowed to show, this sequel becomes a shallow revenge plot that sought to nudge angered reactions from fans for its own publicity. I'm sure many will praise this game's story for "taking risks", "trying something different", or "subverting audience expectations" (none of which are inherently bad things, of course). But, in this case, I see it as a lazy way to gain notoriety through controversy rather than writing in complex questions and decisions for players to ponder over as the original game did. As far as I'm concerned, Joel and Ellie's story ended with their return to Tommy's dam, and nothing Naughty Dog does with the franchise in the future will change my mind.… Expand

    It will break your heart, if you are a last of us fan. I will not say this game was for ''FUN'' but it really intrigued me to play and I was fueled by anger whenever that scene was shown again in the flashbacks and A player cannot form an own opinion of this game without playing it. And i am not asking anyone to play it I am just expressing my opinion.

    The game isn't perfect but thats okay, the story is messy at times but it really sat well with me in the end. Not everyones gonna love it but I praise the developers for trying something new and if the story was put together differently it would've sat better with people I think. But the game is breathtaking and the gameplay is fun for most of the game. No, it certainly could have been altered in minor ways to improve the storyline but these are only minor and any person who is able to suspend even an ounce of their belief in reality and immerse themselves in the story will find them negligible at best. Players who do not fully immerse themselves in the game's setting and story will find that there is a political agenda being presented to the players, namely related to feminism and SJW, however that does not affect the gameplay or story.

    Unfortunately, veterans of Part 1 have taken to the boards and bombed the reviews due to their frustration over key events and characters that represent the fictitious history of the Last of Us and feel as though Part 2 is not representative of the world described in Part 1. I strongly recommend that you ignore the negative reviews and play it yourself to form your own opinion, however you are likely to find the game excellent like the rest of us    … Expand

    A great game with unbelievable quality in the animation department, gameplay that is fluid without doing anything new and a story that will play with you as a player and makes you think about empathy after completing the game.

    This game will become a cult like the first part, and I do not want to be one of those who hate it. Yes, of course, there are flaws in this game as in any other, but there are tens of times more pluses, an excellent elaboration of details, graphics and pumping are beautiful. And this is the last chance to touch the fate of Ally and this is not forgotten.

    There is a huge twist somewhere in the game that the developer took a big gamble on, and I believe a lot of the controversy or hate of the game came from there. But that very same twist is also what makes this game so rewarding. The complex emotional journey I experienced playing it would not be possible without that twist.
    Gameplay-wise, some levels dragged on a bit long; I wish there was less time spent scavenging but overall a largely exciting, mainly-steath gameplay that allowed considerable freedom in most levels.
    Bottom line: I would recommend this game wholeheartedly to anyone who appreciates a gripping, dark, unique, and emotional experience rather than a one-sided 'hero' journey.    … Expand

Gameplay, cinematics, character development, all of it. Side characters actually have an emotional impact on you where in the first game they just felt like plot progression points. If you can get past Joel’s death and keep an open mind, this game is a very rewarding experience. You go from despising Abby and not wanting to play as her to empathizing with both sides and not wanting her to die. By the final fight any thirst for revenge you have is gone. For me the only negative of this game was not much dialogue between ellie and joel. However, its a continuation of the story and I think it acts perfectly as that. One of the best games i’ve ever played.… Expand

    1)Some argue that Ellie killed so many people to get to Abby but then let her go.

    It is because she sees JOEL in Abby. Had she killed Abby then Lev wouldn’t get the same care she got as kiddo.

    This game happens years after TLOU. There are lot of people who travel the country to do trade with a settlement

Obviously, the tragic death of Joel is a controversial and divisive move. But many of those fans who either didn't actually play the game, watched on YouTube or read the spoilers and decided to instantly review bomb based upon this need to learn how to deal with loss. It wasn't done as a cheap shock tactic. The death of Joel is literally the driving force of the entire plot. It would have been so easy to make a game where Ellie and Joel set out on another cross country adventure. It would have been popular with fans and sold well. But it was not the story that was told, nor was it destined to be. What instead unfolds is a tragic and bleak look into the consequence of revenge. The sheer discomfort we feel at learning about the darker sides of our favourite protagonists, as well as the slow realisation that they were never really the good guys begin with, is an unpleasant sensation. It doesn't sit well with us, especially when compared to the relatively uplifting story of the first installment.

    But the story progresses, and we delve into Ellie's hate driven revenge quest. And its brutal and cathartic, while dotted with sweet moments of earnest love and nostalgic visits to museums. As we start to see these memories become darker, and the consequences of the first game begin to manifest in broken trust and estrangement, so too do we see present day Ellie fall deeper into a pit of despair and hatred. Its uncomfortable, particularly when she makes certain unforgivable decisions. We want to change her actions but we can't. And that's really what makes it so powerful. This is not "poor writing" - it's a testament to how much we have grown to love and genuinely care for these fictional characters.

    And then the second major divisive decision comes into play at the midway point of the game. Spending the second half playing as the character you hate the most, and have just spent hours hunting relentlessly, is at first incredibly jarring. The second wave of 0 score reviews from people who actually did play the game almost certainly stemmed from this. I get it. Why would you want to hear what Abby has to say? You don't care, you just want her brought to justice. That's how I felt initially, and I spent my first hour or so as Abby feeling very apprehensive. However, by the end of Seattle Day 3, I didn't hate Abby. In fact, I was almost rooting for her. I grew to love her as a strong protagonist. I liked Owen, even if he was a bit of a douchey bro. I liked Manny, he was a decent human being who just wanted to take care of his father. I liked Mel, who had no interest in hurting anyone. And I absolutely fell in love with Lev and Yara, and their entire overarching plot.

    I didn't want Abby to die. I didn't want Ellie to die. But they both did terrible things with similar motives. The final few hours of gameplay were incredibly tense, stressful, and emotional. I have never experienced anything quite like TLOU part 2 in any other form of media. I understand people who legitimately played the game to completion and still didn't like it. It's not a happy game, nobody is a winner and everyone is a villain. But i absolutely loved every second of it. For me, it was an absolute masterpiece of storytelling, and it will stay with me for a long time. Unquestionably 10/10.    … Expand

    When I first finished the first TLOU I wished Naughty Dog wouldn’t make a sequel to Joel and Ellie’s story, because how could they follow that up? TLOU part 2 story blew me away. They really did manage to create a wonderful, painful, follow up. And on the gameplay department, it perfected everything from the first game. 10/10

If you are really looking for challenges, the extreme mode will be more than satisfying. On the downside, I think that the game could have been a little bit shorter.     Just a couple of minor gripes. The exploration/scavenging felt a bit tedious at times. Story pacing felt kind of off but it could be attributed to the length of time I took playing it. This game features the most intense and gripping combat I've experienced in a video game. The visuals,sound design and character animations were truly a step above.

    As i'm writing this im listing up the game for sale. Something i havent done in 15 years and that it self says alot coming from someone who keeps onto games on the off chance of replaying the game, but i know for certainty I wont be playing this one ever again.
    As a gamer I seek entertainment and escapism to relax and unwind and pretty much boost my 'happiness meter' but this game left such a bad taste in my mouth and feeling miserable. Especially when you take into consideration that I paid for this and paid full price. There is no “bad” or “good” person it is all about perspective. it’s obvious that Abby would kill Joel because he killed her dad. But in Ellie’s point of vue she just saw a woman killing someone that she loved. And if I was in Abby’s position I would have done the same thing. And the fact that Ellie didn’t kill Abby at the end makes the game even more depressing and I love it! To keep it short: If you aren't sure if to buy it and never saw anything from the first Part, leave it and spend the money on something better. The gameplay is pretty nice, like the graphics. Its a story relevant game. And that's where it fails. The story is horrible and so poorly made. Its supposed to be a game of the adventure of Ellie and Joel. You play 49% Ellie, 50% Abby and poor 1% Joel. In my impression in total this game is made of 30% Ellie, 30% Abby, 30% cut scenes and 10% loading screens. That's it. I even accidentally skipped the death of Joel and just saw what happened in my second playthrough and I still don't know, what happened with Tommy, because I was and still am so annoyed of those cutscenes. Why do you make us play the killer of Joel for half of the game? Add some more backround story of Abby, before she kills Joel, so we can feel why she did that. The death of Joel is so poorly made. My tip for Naughty Dog: Remove the really poor death of Joel and sell it as a spin-off. This franchise did'nt deserve such a bad continuation. Its an absolute money waste. I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition. The Collectors Edition, content and figure is really nice, but I wasted 230€ in total for this game. My expectation was really high, when I started this game. Fun went to 0 in minutes. Just grinded for the platinum trophy (when I received it, super rare with 0.3%), packed the blu-ray back in the box and gone in the basement. Save your money, don't buy it. If you really want it, wait for a sale. Don't buy it at least for the full price.… Expand

I never cried that hard on a game's cutscene, even the Title scene made me teared up. The Gameplay is really long and sometimes it gets boring, that's why i play 2-3 hours everyday. The storytelling is pretty weird. It's not what i expected when i bought the game.
    The leaks are pretty disturbing, I think Naughty Dogs made the Trailers different by adding Joel in "that one scene" is probably because they want to keep it a secret that Joel died in the game. I feel like the story is focusing more on Abby than Ellie, which what i thought the game was about Ellie. I won't say that the game is straight up garbage, but the story is not what i expected at all even though is really unique. It's not really that bad.    … Expand

The woman who brutally murders Joel two hours into the game. Naughty Dog tried to make us connect with her but it just didn’t work. Plus the ending wasn’t satisfying whatsoever. I really hope they make a third game. The fans definitely deserve something better than the way this turned out. Make the fans happy like you did with Uncharted 4.… Expand

    The game is just incredible, and show how you can lose yourself with the vengeance. The game has some narrative problems, and it's a bit hard to connect with Abby in the game. But, anyway, made me cry in the end.

    The graphics are stunning. The game mechanics and general gameplay is absolutely fantastic. Although its no surprise that the story has made the game unplayable. The character inconsistentcies make for a confusing plot line. The general lazy writing has unveiled a very generic story about revenge and its consequences. To add, the best part of the game which was the game mechanics and gameplay, was a copy and paste of Uncharted 4. It is not a very good game.… Expand

    A truly outstanding masterpiece of storytelling. The Last of Us Part II is brutal and relentless and it does not let you off easy. But it’s voice is very unique which I respect a lot in the modern gaming landscape (of sequels) that often just takes the obvious safe route. The technical quality of the game is awe inspiring. The art, animation, controls, audio, quality of coding and qualityA truly outstanding masterpiece of storytelling. The Last of Us Part II is brutal and relentless and it does not let you off easy. Everything has been done with such care for details that I feel very fortunate to having been able to play through this game. The story really hit me in the feels and I ended up crying a couple of times - and feeling sorry for people who don’t get to experience this due to ”not liking video games”. How hard it is to kill the bigger zombies now. What I absolutely hated: It’s absolutely ridiculous how you guys play commercials about this game for four years now, saying it’s pretty much all about revenge, but when there was a chance for an actual revenge, Ellie pu**ied out. Twice. Like, what in the actual scared f*ck? So let me get this straight. It’s all about revenge. This whole game is about REVENGE. Where is the revenge? It’s gone, because Ellie is a coward now. I feel like I lost 27 hours to play this game, because you made it pointless. Goddamn it, Joel and Jesse DIED, Tommy lost his eye, Ellie lost her family and there is NO revenge for any of this. Bulls*it, mate. Do not get this game, it’s a waste of time and energy.… Expand

And this is the life end of this console generation. The story is great for this wait. The switches in time and from the personal perspectives between Ellie and Abby and see the situations in different eyes are crazy. Better than in halo 5 guardians … Expand

    Lo bueno : Los gráficos son tremendos La.musica es buena El gameplay mejoró Algunas escenas de acción muy bien logradas.

    Terminas haciendo retrocesos en una historia de un personaje que no te importa, la campaña del personaje secundario dura más que la de ellie, el final absurdo y sin sentido. Apenas lo acabé, lo publiqué en el marketplace de Facebook y lo vendí, que a otro le toque sufrir esta porqueria de juego . Que decepción.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
