I played about 30 PS4 games, and TLOU Part 2 is probably the one I enjoyed the most.
The story and the characters are amazing and touching, although many people criticized them. I respect all the opinions, but really don't understand, I think this game deserves better reviews. The characters make mistakes and act not only with rationality, but also impulsively like real life people do.

And some decisions are made for the sake of fun and story, after all it's just a video game.
Apart from that, the gameplay is great, alternating action and stealth.
The graphics is really good too, especially the character's faces during the cutscenes.
Every aspect is great: the sound, the atmosphere, the pace, the Seattle locations, the hints.
Overall this game is the perfect sequel to the first TLOU, where everything is more complex and simply better.
I think I will never forget playing this game.

Because it is a story with human characters, real which is articulated in realistic gray scales, it is not a game but art.

One of the weakest stories in gaming ever. Characters are literally unlikable and make no sense. The story just isn’t good and it tries too hard to make you feel sorry for people that you immediately don’t want to feel sorry for. And the ending tries so hard to make you feel sad, without making any logical sense.

The Last of Us Part II is a complicated, compelling adventure exploring the darkest sides of human nature, the effects of trauma, how factions and personal association fuel our bias, PTSD, and most importantly, how we heal from our grief and internal anguish. To quote Troy Baker, the voice of fan-favorite character Joel: "If we have done our job right, people will question everything. I want [players] to be able to challenge their own ideas about what this game is, what this world is, who the characters are — everything.” “I want people to go in open-minded to this story, and allow Joel and Ellie to tell their story — not the story that people think they want to be told… If people go in open-minded to this thing, I think they will have a completely different experience than if they go in close-minded.”

Unlike the first game which chooses to deliver its narrative in a condensed, easily digestible manner, Part II truly wants you to think about the intense decisions of its characters and ask yourself questions about it. Where Part | is a consumable story about very well-written characters following basic story tropes, Part II is a terrifying dive into how what we know and what we feel conflict in the face of our better judgment. Asking a player to understand and experience its characters despite how they feel about them is Part II's greatest risk, and by proxy, the reason its so divisive (among other less credible reasons we'll get into). But in my opinion, it's quite possibly its greatest strength. In this gripping 20+ hour narrative, the player will experience desperate stealth-survival gameplay which left me nearly breathless after every encounter and close call. The graphics imagine a forgotten world reclaimed by nature while showing the pockets of humanity trying to preserve what they no longer have. Every character, object, and animation is filled with immersive detail. It always made me smile when Ellie would tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear from falling over her face after a large jump, and it always made me wince with phantom pain when a buried my switchblade into an unsuspecting enemy's throat. The story won't work for everyone: It's not the safe crowd-pleasing sequel all die-hard fans of the original wanted. But sometimes to truly say something significant, you have to challenge your audience. And The Last of Us Part II challenges its audience and characters more than any piece of media I've ever seen.

    Synopsis:

Gameplay 9/10: Desperate, brutal, creative, and very in-depth, with the first game's low-ammo vs lots of enemies style gameplay turned up to 11. New features like going prone, breaking windows,
and crafting silencers and explosives allow a much wider variety of ways to take down or sneak past your foes. New infected types bring new challenges while the old ones are revamped for a better challenge. Human enemies are more tactical and come in different varieties depending on the faction you're in combat with. Avoiding dogs, pulling out arrows, and fighting a brute head-on all kept my adrenaline up. Outside the combat includes simple but enjoyable puzzles to give you a break from the violence. One of my favorite features is the ability to crack safes without clues by listening very carefully for the right combination. Despite this, the combat becomes a bit monotonous around the 3/4 mark. The game allows you to collect new weapons and earn new skills but they don't do quite enough to shake up the gameplay in a 20+ hour experience.

Graphics and Animation 10/10: A very beautiful game filled with creative scenery and extensive detail. You have to play it to really get the experience. (To give a simple reference for how intricate this game's visuals are: The characters will breathe heavily through their mouth when running or in combat, and quietly through the nose when in stealth or not exerting themselves).

Story 8.5/10: Unlike the beat-by-beat cinematic pacing of the first game you might find in a 1 1/2 hour movie, Part II is structured more like a 600-page novel that both works in favor and against the exploration of its characters. While not as clear-cut and straightforward as its predecessor, Part II offers a deep dive into its concepts and leaves the player with a lot to think about, despite unfortunately dragging its feet in some areas. As for the "SJW trash agenda" that negative reviews like to bring up when claiming the game has a terrible narrative: Yes, the game has a lesbian protagonist, a bisexual supporting character, and a character that struggles with gender identity. All of these are character traits and do not affect the overall story. If you genuinely believe the game is ruined because the female main character also likes women, you really need to rethink your priorities.

This game is 10/10 truly has a really good experience and it may make you feel depressed, but brings up to yourself to think that life is really godam good, do not waste it, learn when to move on, and no youre not alone, theres always someone there for you

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was well made with a variety of interesting characters and great gameplay. You play the game alternating between two main female protagonists, Ellie Williams, and Abby Anderson. The main objective in the game for both protagonists is to get revenge on the people who wronged them. For Abby, she kills Joel Miller, the father figure of Ellie who murdered Abby's father in events 5 years before this game. For Ellie, it is finding Abby and those she was with when they killed Joel and doing the same to them. The story is an intriguing mix of close relationships and strong female leads. Each main protagonist has a group of friends that will do anything to help them enact their revenge. As you play as Ellie you track down Abby's friends and begin to kill them one by one ultimately leading to you trying to find and kill Abby. Meanwhile, Abby learns of her friends dying at Ellie's hands and returns the favor by killing Ellie's best friend Jesse and injuring another friend named Tommy, who was Joel's brother. Throughout these exchanges of killings, Ellie is becoming more and more obsessed with obtaining her revenge. Abby, who has achieved her goal, is trying to survive and meets a young boy named Lev and his sister. When Lev's sister dies, Abby begins to take care of the boy and tries to find them safety by finding the group called the fireflies. As they are searching for the group, they are abducted, tortured, and starved by a gang of outlaws. When Ellie finally catches up to Abby, she finds her and Lev malnourished and starving, their lives barely hanging by a thread. After a quick fight between Ellie and Abby, Ellie decides to let them live as she has realized all that she has lost on her quest for revenge. Her best friend was killed and her girlfriend left her because of how obsessed she was. If she killed Abby, the boy Lev would also die because he needed Abby to protect him. Ellie did not want any more blood on her hands and did not want to be the cause of a boy dying who had done no harm to her. When Ellie returns to Jackson, she finds an empty house with no loved ones left to care for her. Her quest for revenge had led her to misery. Abby and Lev try and continue to find the fireflies, but they are both very sick and weak and have an uphill battle to climb. Abby's quest for revenge led many of her friends to die because they helped her and this put her on a path of misery just like Ellie's. The overall theme I took from this game was that obsession with revenge can lead us to more grief than it would if we would be able to forgive and move on. Both female leads are strong characters who can fight and survive just as well as any man. This is a great representation of women in a field where many protagonists are strong males while women are often looked at as weak or needing to be saved. Overall, this story has a lot of deep messages about the consequences of obsession and revenge and the power of forgiveness. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished The Last of Us : Part One and The Last Of Us : Part II, both masterpieces. The 2nd part is much bleaker in story and tone. The color palettes are livelier in the first game as the characters progress in their journey with a glint of hope. Part 2 is about hate, revenge, depression and post traumatic disorder.

A lot of the gameplay mechanics and presentation is directly inspired by the Metal Gear Series. The dynamic stealth and the brutality are elevated to a degree that no other game has reached, though. It feels like Naughty Dog is one generation in advance of everybody, just like Metal Gear did before them. There are anthological segments in the later part of the game where you explore an apartment tower and the basement of a hospital. All very dark, gloomy, and skin crawling stuff that's going to make your day if you're into horror.

The writers at Naughty Dog do really subversive stuff. I remember playing with Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2 : Sons of Liberty telling myself : "It's not Solid Snake, but this game is freaking awesome!" They go even further than what Kojima did back in 2001. Plus, if you've watched Game of Thrones, you're used to a rug being pulled under you! The chain of events, though, is awesome and every beat in the story is justified, consistent and perfectly paced, considering the history and the mental health of the main characters.

Best acting and storytelling in gaming. Just like in Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, the are no heroes, just broken people. It's a hard pill to swallow. It makes us realise that we can really connect with characters who do horrible stuff. That aspect triggered a lot of anger in the gaming community. Ironically, the same people who didn't mind Joel's actions at the end of the first part!

Again, it's a story written by adults, for adults. Doesn't mean you will love it. But if you choose to put yourself in a position of acceptance, instead of reluctance, you're in for a treat. The best game ever made (that's debatable).

With the release of the HBO series and the multiplayer game, Part 1 will gain traction and it will push the sales for Part 2 even more. When Part 2 came out, an internal memo was circulating at Microsoft saying that they should try to reach that kind of narrative quality in their games. Naughty Dog also won "Best narrative" and "Best game direction" at the game awards for this game.

Don't pass up this one because of the haters! They're irrelevant! Never cared, never will..

I really don't understand the bad reviews. The story is amazing. The game makes you see how all actions have consequences and how you can change someone else´s life with your actions. Amazing gameplay and graphics. My recommendation:
    - Play it on a PS5
    - Play normal mode not using stealth, use all your resources and have fun.
    - Then play it on grounded. It feels like a new game.

The characters in this game make decisions that people didn't like. And that's what I like about it. It's a fantastic game that explores the complex emotions of humans who grow and change. I think the execution of the story was fantastic this game made me feel things from start to finish. Not to mention just how much content, artistry, and amazing writing this game has.

Nada que soma e contribui com o universo criado de The Last of Us.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a standalone game it is not bad but as a sequel to one of the best games of all time this is simply awful.

    There's a lot of plotholes:

So Joel murders almost everyone at the hospital yet they keep their identities?
There's even a note in game of someone who changes their identity to escape from a cult.

Ellie and Tommy living when Joel dies, I get the group discuss it but why was the possibility of people trying to save Joel not discussed before hand.
Also why did Abby's group decide to spare them, as if Joel's own brother wouldn't hunt you down until his dying days?

When they send people out to find Tommy, three teenagers can go even though Abby came down with about 10 people.

To play as Abby when it initially felt like the end was a good turn but dragging out all that time with a player you didn't care for and in fact hated was flawed (clearly designed to generate sympathy which given the reviews it didn't work, we should have played as Abby to start the game in order for us to build a rapport.)

The absolute off chance that Abby would bump into the 1 trans seraphite and then immediately form a bond with him that extends her story by umpteen hours.
I am a fan of the lgbt representation and the visible nature of the lesbian storyline for Ellie and Dina is a brilliantly shown relationship, that isn't grotesquely over sexualised like other women in games but that Abby bumps into the 1 Trans seraphite?

The feasibility of a 13 year old who spent their entire life on a remote island, raised by a murderous cult, cut off from whatever is left on the mainland knows and identifies as trans? There are many ways to have added logic to how Lev came to this decision, like perhaps an older seraphite who lived in the old world has come out as trans or Yara finds a book on LGBT, yet none were taken.

I just find it very hard that a 13 year old would run away from the safety of a cult, (even if it's a death cult), and try and live in a 'zombie' infested city, literal life and death.

You are supposed to care for Abby and Owen's relationship but it's never explained how it ended or how he ended up with Mel.

So Joel has survived over 2 decades in this world yet makes the mistake of admitting his real identity, and then Ellie also forgets the map? Why do they all forget basic survival techniques?

What is the point of the rattlers keeping Abby prisoner?
It's not explained if the firefly house was a ruse or if it was legit and what they even do with the prisoners (surely it's not hard to have a bit of slave labour or someone thrown to a chained clicker).
Then the ending is nonsensical, after 20-30 hours why on earth would we be happy with not killing Abby and finishing the main reason we are doing all of this?

Generally how can I headshot a brute and they don't die instantly? I get they're supposed to be these massive people with a sledgehammer but no human will take 2 point blank shotgun shells to the chest before they die, at least given them some armour.
Shamblers were a very nice enemy imo, especially where there were 2 at once.

Why can we carry only 2 clips of ammo per gun, no one will have 'FULL' pockets in an apocalypse.

Gameplay is what you would expect, sounds are great, tense atmosphere.
The media doesn't always have to have a happy ending, (look at avengers and everyone we lost over those 2 movies), but make it a logical one.

Even a simple ending of Lev begging Ellie to stop attacking Abby, and Ellie looks at him only to see herself in Lev and realise what she has become makes more sense than this.
I personally would have had Abby dodge a knife attack from Ellie which results in Ellie falling and stabbing Lev in the shoulder and Abby goes straight to tending the wound rather than retaliate against Ellie, at which point it dawns on Ellie everything she and Abby have lost on this journey and how Lev represents a breaking of that cycle.

Like I said at the start, as a standalone video game it is good but as part of a series it flat out is illogical and poorly written, and the revenge is bad story is overdone and sucks if there aren't enough stories which balance it out by showing that revenge doesn't fill that hole after it is taken. Too often the 'humanity' kicks in before the climax, as if we haven't murdered 100s to get to this point.

Gameplay 10/10 - Something no one seems to talk about: this game is actually really fun. It builds on all the cool exploration/progression/looting mechanics from part 1 and adds in lots of cool features and entirely open world sections to this game.

Atmosphere 10/10 - The dark post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us rises to the next level in this brutal sequel where the only certain thing is death. Be warned if you are looking for the light-hearted atmosphere of the first game, this is a game of trauma and tragedy that the shattered world you explore beautifully embodies.

Story 9/10 - Now for the controversial part. This is a game that made me feel emotions. It is a beautiful narrative with interesting, nuanced characters walking complicated paths. It is a gripping story that made me sad, elated and definitely angry at times. The plot twists are excellent and the writing choices often feel wild and force you to grapple with the harsh themes of the game. I will say the pacing is rough at time, but even the jarring dissonance of perspectives and pacing play out phenomenally.

Message 10/10 - This game issues a moral challenge to the player, one that asks them to understand and empathize with **** people doing **** things in attempt to find some light at the end of the tunnel. (Ironically, many who failed to grasp the gravity of the story, fell into the same cycle of anger and vitriolic discourse that characters experience, to the extent that actors and writers of this game received numerous death threats.)

Ultimately Naughty Dog didn’t make a mistake or slip up when designing this game, they did it on purpose. It is not a “good” game. It is a sucker punch to the face. It is something I wouldn’t have asked for and I didn’t know I needed. Thank you TLOU2.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a prime example of a game that prioritizes pushing a supposed "LGBT agenda" over delivering a compelling and enjoyable experience. This sequel is marred by heavy-handed and forced attempts at inclusivity, overshadowing any potential for a well-crafted story and engaging gameplay.

Rather than focusing on the characters and their development, the game seems more interested in hammering its progressive messaging into the player's consciousness. The inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters feels contrived and unnecessary, as their sexual orientation becomes their defining trait rather than an aspect of their identity. The narrative sacrifices depth and coherence to virtue signal, resulting in a disjointed and unsatisfying storyline.

Unfortunately, this obsession with inclusivity negatively impacts the gameplay as well. The forced diversity feels more like tokenism, with the game's agenda taking precedence over meaningful gameplay mechanics. It's clear that the developers prioritized their message over creating a polished and enjoyable gaming experience.

In addition to the narrative shortcomings, the gameplay itself is riddled with flaws. The combat encounters lack innovation and fail to offer any real challenge, while the stealth mechanics feel clunky and unrefined. The pacing is uneven, with stretches of repetitive gameplay that make the experience monotonous and tedious.

Furthermore, technical issues plague the game, with frequent frame rate drops and glitches that disrupt immersion and undermine the overall experience. It's disheartening to see a game of this magnitude released with such significant technical shortcomings.

Ultimately, The Last of Us Part 2's preoccupation with pushing an "LGBT agenda" at the expense of a well-crafted narrative and enjoyable gameplay is a disservice to the potential of the franchise. Instead of embracing diversity in a meaningful way, the game comes across as pandering and lacks the substance that made its predecessor so memorable. It's a missed opportunity and a disappointing addition to the series .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you think Neil is a good writer. He’s not. This game will surely prove that to you. That’s the most heartbreaking part about it.

Tried to give this game another shot after waiting and waiting for my absolute favourite game The Last Of Us. Since I finished the TV show and knew I had paid $100 and never finished after being completely traumatised by Joel being completely beaten to death in the first 10 minutes of the game. People should know. Its traumatic. This game was a huge escape for me. Something I needed in bad times. Don’t play it if you have PTSD if you don’t know that happens already.

Yup he gets completely beaten to a pulp. Some GOT vibe I never expected. I remember getting up the first time I played and saying NO NO NOOOO. This time I swallowed it. Tried again.

I understand the story to some extent but it is absolutely terrible. Doesn’t really make sense. The map, environmental aspects, flashbacks, all of it really doesn’t make much sense. You’re just running around forever and it’s so boring. It ends on a complete cliff hanger. I will never understand exactly why players had to play as Abbey. The murderer. And have to try to kill Ellie?! Idc about spoilers. People should know. I understand the message but why? Why push this?

Neil you are a terrible writer….why you did this I really don’t understand. You got all your money and stopped caring? I understand the message but why deliver it like that? Idk what happened to you in your life or something with your creativity shifting so drastically but this game was such a waste of money and total garbage. I’m sorry but it is. You seriously just run around for the entire game. Expecting there to be some big moving moment or something but there’s none. I really tried to give it another chance but it ended up breaking my heart again.

I hope the TV show doesn’t do this…I’m sure fans will be equally infuriated and traumatised and upset by this just overall bad story writing. I understand the message, I do and I like it but the way it’s presented is some of the worst story writing I’ve ever seen.

Such a disappointment. I really looked up to Neil. This was lazy and sloppy. Pointless. Boring. Waste of time. Trying to push a message on people in the worst possible way. It could’ve been done so much better.

0/10 I really tried my best to see the good but by the end. As a whole. The game is bad. I don’t know a soul who thinks it was good.

Don’t waste your money, time, to be disappointed, bored as hell, heartbroken by a beautiful story being slashed to pieces with no proper explanation or ending.

Honestly, shame on you Neil. You knew you had so many fans and I have no clue why you did that to us like that. So much money made from the release of this game just to upset so many people. It’s just so mean and on top of it to be so lazy with it?? It’s so awful. I’m just so upset I tried so hard to give him and the other creators another chance for nothing in return. What a waste of talent.

Things happen to the key characters that are bad decisions, you have no agency to craft the story the way you want it, like with RPGs and other open world games, you have to go along with the fixed set story if you like it or not, again this is dated game design. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Part 1 - Rant

I have deliberately and actively avoided any and all previews, reviews, spoilers and everything else dealing with this game until I played it through completely, to not become biased or spoiled. Because of that I did not know what to expect at all really, it was a long time since I played through the first TLOU. Owing to this I was really surprised to see all the negative reviews for this game when I finally checked them out on YouTube and Metacritic, which mainly focuses on the story and how bad it is. Many reviews also calls the story woke, SJW-bull****, politicized et.c. and I just don't get that. I have understood that there has been some controversy between Naughty Dog and users where ND has tried to silence previews and leaks, and also some deliberate disinformation but I haven't read up on it in great detail. One example is a number of reviewers are griping about the fact that you have to kill guard dogs in the game. I mean come on, it's a game set in a very broken and hostile post apocalyptic environment where it is kill or be killed, you kill most everything and everyone in the game.

    Part 2 - Review

Right away, you are met with an extremely beautiful game. Some cutscenes in particular could almost be mistaken for scenes from a movie. The scenery is breathtaking and I just marveled at the beauty of it all and wanted to explore every detail of this world. You are introduced to Joel and Ellie in their new settlement where they live and thrive amongst lots of other people, patrolling the surrounding areas for infected and generally seem to have a good life in general. As the story unravels though, you realize that not all is good between Joel and Ellie and that he hasn't been truthful to her about what exactly happened and why, with the Fireflies at the hospital when he saved her. The beginning of the game is really sweet and calm, but this is soon changed when you're introduced to an unknown man and woman watching the settlement from afar, discussing luring someone out. It's fairly obvious that they're talking about Joel or Tommy.
After some patrol mission the woman is saved by Joel and Tommy and this leads to Joel being killed in front of Ellie in the most brutal way by the woman he saved, who we now know as Abby, a member of the WLF and a former Firefly. This is a turning point for Ellie of course, since the game henceforth is about exacting revenge for Joel.
Halfway trough the game Ellie and Abby meet in a stand off and the player is suddenly made to play Abby instead. This seems to be a huge gripe for most players, and it was for me too at first, but then I realized that it was kinda interesting to see the other side of the story, what made Abby tick and why was she so hell bent on killing Joel. I did not enjoy playing through all of Seattle again though, I think that they could have found another timeline for Abby somehow, but I get why, it's logical.

The plot is generally well written in my opinion and serves its purpose. The game sadly becomes quite repetitive, with all the little quests that must be done, and everything is always so far away with immense amounts of hurdles to overcome, even for the smallest of tasks.
The game is also extremely linear, but this is okay since the story is the central piece here, not being able to sandbox around in a huge world.

The crafting system for upgrading weapons and skills I think works fairly well. Not very advanced but it serves its purpose, and instead of getting bogged down with minute details and stats and such, the focus of the game is again the story.

The fighting mechanics are fairly simplified but sufficient I think. The so-called challenges for getting heavy doors open and what have you are a token though. Simply hold the triangle button down and everything goes well. The same goes for fighting off enemies that have you in their grip, mash square and you're all right. This I think could have been done in a more complex way to make the player actually work for success and have a harder time. Or they could have done away with it completely and just made a cutscene instead. As it is now it's just redundant and boring.

The game finally ends with Abby and Ellie meeting again and Ellie first saving Abby instead of killing her, and then suddenly making a 180 and demanding that she fights her. Ellie once again spares Abby and they go their separate ways. Ellie returns home to discover that she has lost everything. Her house is empty, save for a guitar that Joel gave her, which she can no longer play properly since Abby bit off two of Ellies fingers. It's a really sad ending to a sad game and I think it's a correct decision to not end the game on a happy-go-lucky note. It's a dark world where everybody struggles to survive and it seems a more plausible situation if this was a real scenario, rather than humanity suddenly living in peace with one and other. It's horrible, it's gut wrenching, and I love it.

One of the best games I've played in the last couple of years. Gameplay is solid and the story is unexpected and at times brilliant. Felt like it could have ended a bit sooner, but at the same time it felt appropriate to have the last scene feel like such a struggle.

Probably the best game I've ever played. It was incredibly dark, and for that reason I'm not sure I can say it's my favorite game , but it was so well-crafted that I was just continually in awe. The characters, at least the main characters, feel so authentic - thanks to amazing voice acting, really in-depth writing (so many small conversations), and sheer graphical excellence. The story itself is somber and disturbing, but it sucks you in emotionally. The game play itself is more nuanced and satisfying than any Naughty Dog game before it, and they set the bar pretty high. This game proves video games can be something radically more than they've been before.

I don't think anybody who didn't appreciate the first game would ever like this one. That first game was dark and uncomfortable too - not exactly the kind of game you "like." This game doubles down on everything: the characters, the story, the darkness, the discomfort, the horror... but it does it so well, it's hard to deny it's mastery of the art form.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The technical aspects of the gameplay, mechanics and graphics of TLOU2 are fantastic, and just like I had hoped. I love the scale and versatility of the level design in the combat encounters, and how you are able to use it to your advantage.

    10/10

In terms of storytelling, this game is all over the place. I like the overall plot, but the execution could (should) have been better, especially after what Naughty Dog did whit TLOU1.
Part 2 is in desperate need of editing, where length, phasing and momentum all leave room for improvement.
The game is too long. TLOU1 proved that you don’t need a 20+ hour game to tell a captivating story, and develop great characters you fall in love with. This issue could however be mitigate with better phasing and momentum. There were tons of emotional moments, both in-game and in cut scenes, that made me feel everything from happiness to rage and loss. But there were also big sections of the game, where I felt frustrated by the downtime, and just wanted the next story-beat or more enemies to fight. It is here the level design becomes a double-edged sword.
When there is no one to fight or no puzzle to figure solve, the levels turn into big empty places where you walk around searching for scraps, ammo and pills, to make sure you are prepared for your next encounter. Even though Naughty Dog has made an amazing and beautiful world full of small details, this does become tedious after a while, when you are traveling through the world alone.
This breaks the phasing of the game, and takes away the focus from the story, which I through multiple playthroughs of TLOU1 never struggled with. In TLOU1 you are always experiencing the game, either through dialogue, puzzles or a cut scene/transition that throws you into a new scenario.
Maybe this becomes less of an issue on a second playthrough, but for now, it is one of my biggest negatives. If you experience the same thing, I recommend turning on enhanced listening to scan for items. This helps, without becoming a solution.
One of my favorite elements of both TLOU games is the in game dialogue between you and you companion. This could have been a solution for these sections, as it is the case for the Downtown level of Seattle Day 1, where Ellie and Dina are riding around joking and talking about what they see. The same goes for when you as Abby are making your way through the city with Lev, and they talk about the The Seraphites and why Lev and Yara are on the run. These are some of my favorite character development and world building moments, the same way how Joel says he has been on both sides of the ambush in TLOU1.
Another way Naughty Dog could have trimmed the game down is when you take over as Abby. It killed the momentum for me, because it felt like I was starting a new game. Even though it doesn’t make sense for you to upgrade Ellie’s abilities, I understand why it is there, as it gives the player a sense of progression. It is however 100% unnecessary when you play as Abby, a character who has trained for years to become a perfect killing machine. It feels like padding, and could have streamlined the story if you didn’t have to start from scratch. My solution to the Seattle levels with Abby is to give us a few skills to upgrade, and cut those chapters by 30%.

    6/10

Even though I miss a lot of Ellie’s personality from the first game, I get that she has grown, both in age and through life. There are a lot of characters to love and (love to) hate in this game, often even the same character simultaneously. The story does a good job of fleshing out the main characters motivations, and it made me both and hate and empathies with their acts and decisions.
The death of Joel made me hate Abby (as I was supposed to), but I did not get mad at the game, because I expected that the story would explain her actions, as it did. I like Abby as a character, and I liked playing as her.
I can easily imagine a full game where you play as a girl, whose father is about to save humanity, but is needlessly murdered by a madman, who acts out of selfishness. (Ellie even tells Joel that he did the wrong thing. He even knows this himself, which is why he lied about it at the end of TLOU1)
It is the reason why the games is called TLOU Part 2.

Whenever I hear people talk about negatives about TLOU1, they often mention the David fight, which is also my biggest negative about that game. But they did it again, only in an even more grotesquely annoying way. The showdown between Abby and Ellie in the theater is the only part of the game I hate, and I am not looking forward to play it again. It is luckily only one out of many scenes that are full of sweetness, love, heartbreak, horror and action, my favorite being the museum with Joel and Ellie.
The set pieces are impressive and really good at creating the right atmosphere the levels/chapters need to support the story.

    Final score 8.5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It took me a few weeks but I finished this, as hopefully all who reviewed the game did. This was a great experience. I won't say it's "fun" or that I "enjoyed" it, but not all story telling is designed around glee. They did an excellent job with the characters and their motivations. I can see why some fans would be upset, but frankly I disagree with that notion. Spending hours playing as Abby, knowing how it ends for her friends I still found myself getting invested, to the point where when it was time to check back with Ellie I was surprised by how villainous she looked from Abby's side of the conflict.

I'm eager to see more of both Ellie and Abby later. They were both right and they were both wrong and I think that's good story telling. I understand why Ellie stopped at the end. Violence and vengeance is never done and you have to break that cycle somewhere. You have to maintain a little bit of humanity.

One mark off for the story feeling a little dragged out in parts, but I'm glad I spent weeks playing it instead of days.

I'm not a huge fan of the gameplay from the first game, I thought it was ok, but the story was the one thing that kept me going. The relationship between Ellie and Joel was so beautiful that it literally made me fight through it all to see its conclusion.

This sequel takes everything I loved from the first game and throws it in the trash by the first couple of hours. The gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game, but this time the story is not interesting enough to make me want to push on. I did it in spite of that, hoping for some redemption, but overall the game is just utterly depressing and violent.

There's been a lot of controversy about this game, about its characters, about "pushing the narrative". I've never cared about a characters sexual orientation or anything like that. When I play a game I want a good story, some hope, good characters and in this case, I wanted redemption. But I got none of it from this game. I was just left depressed and angry. If this was the developers intention, then fine, they succeeded, but there was nothing to take away from it all. The journey wasn't interesting, the gameplay is somewhat copy/paste from the previous, the violence and torture is overwhelming, and the characters was one dimensional, uninteresting and unlikable.

I can't for the life of me understand how journalists are giving this game such raving reviews, it baffles me. It's like they never played the first game. This is a sequel, its story from the first game matters. This should have been a seperate titled game, far away from the legacy of The Last of Us, and I wouldn't have wasted my money on it.

I would give this game a 0/10, but because aparently it's beeing treated as review bombing I'm forced to give it a better score.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is a game that I was eagerly counting down the days as The Last of Us is my favorite game of all-time. Unfortunately the game has received some of the most insane pre-release hate that tainted the experience for me. The amount of hate and accidentally being spoiled for a few key moments had me thinking of that instead of focusing on the game.

I understand why the people who hate Abby for her actions, and not due to bigotry, would hate her and hate playing the game. I didn't enjoy playing as her even though I understood what Naughty Dog wanted to accomplish. I didn't particularly care about her story arc, but I did appreciate Naughty Dog tried something that they had to have known would be controversial.

I think that the concept of bringing to light the duality of actions between Joel and Abby was a brave attempt given the amount of love that Joel and Ellie received after the first story. The story wasn't what I wanted, but I understand their decision.

Graphically this is the best game that I've ever played. It looked and ran incredible on my PS4 Pro connected to a Vizio M558-G1, I was constantly in a state of awe at what Naughty Dog accomplished with regards to this. The audio design was equally fantastic. In terms of gameplay, Naughty Dog also exceeded my expectations by increasing the quality of the level design, and made encounters more fun than before. I applaud them for that.

For those who read this who genuinely played this game and felt betrayed, I understand. If you're reviewbombing without ever having played it, find a better use of your time.

I intend to replay TLoU2 next year once all of the nonsense surrounding it has finally settled down. It's a fantastic game even if I don't agree with the story decisions fully.

The only part of the leaks that wasn’t accurate was Abby being a transwoman...apparently she just likes steroids and HGH a lot, but it changes nothing. The character is horrible, unlikeable, and moves in what I can only describe as a drunk, obese Cole from GOW. The weird part is that she might have worked as an antagonist, but the game forces you to play as her for half it’s run time. All I wanted to do while playing as her was to kill myself. I don’t care about her story, her motivation, or why she and almost every other female character looks as androgynous as possible. Gameplay is fine, but nothing special. It’s not that different from the original and the AI is dumb as a rock. If the first game was a leap forward, this is a baby step. The gameplay doesn’t evolve or change, what you see in the first couple of hours is what you get. Save your money.

When Abby's part begins, it quickly becomes obvious that the game is more like a two-in-one short games instead of just one long game. This is because none of the upgrades and improvements gained for Ellie carry over to Abby, With Abby the game starts anew, even to the point of introducing new weapons, along with reset upgrades and improvements. Abby will need to be leveled up just like Ellie was.

So considering this, I'd suggest anyone to play the game all the way to when Abby is introduced again, and stop there for a couple of weeks. Go play something else, then return after a while, because you'll be returning to the "3rd game" in the series.

This game is unquestionably an A+ stellar achievement in game building. The world environment, enemies and behavior, and visuals are stunning.

The game play is smooth and almost never infuriating (haha) - seriously though, very tight gameplay. The argument can be made it is too much on rails, but it is NOT a sandbox game, I mean this is Naughty Dog - what do you expect?

The real divide here is with the characters actions and motivations and I was totally on board the hater train. I didn't get it - I hated it as one point. I hated myself for playing it. Until the last frame of the last scene I was conflicted in this way. It all changed for me that final scene. I now cannot WAIT for the sequel #3 to be made... hopefully it is to be made. No spoilers, but if you are on the fence, play this game.

At the very least you will understand what it means to really be made to feel something by a game, and who wouldn't say that is a great and lofty goal for any media entertainment?
