    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to give this game a 10/10 review, due to there are so many unreasonable negative reviews, and this game completes the whole story.

    First, the story is good, and it does not deserve like 3, 2 or even 0 of 10. I know some of the elements in this game might anger many people, such as SJW and multi-cultural as well. However, you can say you hate these elements, but you cannot destroy the game via some unreasonable and unreal reviews. I might only give it an 8 or 9 before I saw the whole internet is like bullying the creator and the team of this game. I really hate this phenomenon, like I am living in some kind of censorship country.

    Second, there is a reason it calls part 2 instead of the last of us 2. In my opinion, the last of us part 2 complete and extend the whole story behind the previous game in 2013. There must be a consequence when you against the world benefit to save personal interest, and the result is not just the dead of Joel. It is the struggle between Ellie and Abby. Obviously. Abby is a nice and ordinary girl who just wants to revenge her father's death, and she let Ellie, with killing intension, go twice. Does Ellie know it? Yes, she knows why Abby killed Joel, she knows Abby only goes to Joel, and She knows Abby let her go twice and did not kill Dina. This is the reason why Ellie's last trip is so unstable and with so many unsure. And it turns out, Ellie let Abby go when she can kill her. Because she found that what she wants is not Abby's death, it is not revenge. She just wants peace and the get rip of the moment of Joel's death. She is not sure that killing Abby can give her peace or not, so she does what Abby has done to her...let her go and never come back. There are so many things in this story...     This game is a masterpiece. Perfect gameplay, perfect story and atmosphere. In my opinion, people cannot rate this game if they don't play it by themselves. And it's really sad for my to see so small rate for this game...

I enjoyed playing as Abby and found her story as captivating as Ellie’s. The symmetry and poetry between the twos stories was heart wrenching. In Haven the entire sequence on horse back had me crying and my palms sweating.

    While mentioning crying I can’t NOT talk about THAT scene. My breath was held the entire time and I could barely see it all through my tears. It was absolutely heartbreaking and I need to commend Ellie’s voiceactress as she did a superb job. I feel that the ending to the game for me was very lacklustre. Everyone was able to find some peace and instead of learning from the vicious cycle of revenge, pain, revenge, pain the story was showing; Ellie leaves her family only to attack Abby at her lowest and then no go through with it??? It felt.... shallow and like it missed the mark. Though I appreciated that they explored actual consequences for actions for Ellie. Overall the game was stunning and the story was gut wrenching, but missed some marks here and there. 9/10    … Expand

    This game pisses me off so much. It's a game that defecates on the original. The biggest reason is practically the messed up story. They killed Joel in the stupidest way possible, you spend hours doing parkour and looting, you have to spend ten hours as Abby, and you receive a disappointing ending that makes the entire adventure useless.

The fighting animations are bloody and feel "real". The exploration is fun and always different. Since it lasts 20+ hours could become boring, but I did like it till the end.     People who didn’t play the game.. please play the game before giving a rating.. it’s such a great game gameplay wise.. and as for Abby by the end of the game you actually care about her and understands her motivations. Love this game can’t wait for part 3

    - Combat is also really good because you see how they tweaked the fighting from the first game to part II and how they added many more things,which i think create a good gaming experience. (at least for me it did) 9/10

    I personally think that they should've killed him in part 3 or maybe not at all,because i just think that the whole idea of killing off the main protector is so overused nowadays in these post-apocalyptic games.

    - They forced us to sympathize with abby
    - So many plot holes, like way to much
    - There were one to many parts that were unwanted and unnecessary

    I did enjoy alot of the aspects of this game, but the story and pacing is all over the place. The game looks beautiful and some sections of the game is awesome such as downtown Seattle.

    My major gripe was the story itself and the character swap midway of the game which in my opinion hurt the game rather than add to it.     From a gameplay perspective, I did find it very fun and the AI of the enemies was awesome as enemies will try to flank you, adding variety to the game.

Naughty dog delivers top notch details as always in the graphics, level design, mocap, animations, gameplay, variation and sound(music and voice acting) etc. Story is very controversial, had some issues for me that i didn't like as much but overall very memorable and interesting. Makes you think twice about killing someone. Had someWow what a dark and brutal but also beautiful game. They enhanced much more than the first game, with new mechanics and challenges. Better AI and of course new enemies with bug environments allowing you to be stealthy or aggressive with the amount of the room. Graphics are amazing and they did have some pretty cool levels. A couple of nice characters that were built upon. I do like Dina’s and Ellie’s relationship just wish it was more explored on. Cool zombie types, and love how bloaters we’re aggressive. Now with the main issues of the game. Joel’s death was disrespected, with him going out of character (even after 4 years I’m sure they would play it safe just as Tommy). That’s what bothers everyone. The character who built upon in the first game was spat on with a horrible death. He deserved a fitting end. If that’s a small issue you naughty dog it’s not since they should know how to Deliver a character’s beginning and end. The story was a huge mess, they way of how naughty dog structure it was painful and disappointing. Making you play Abby after the death acne of Jeese feels way worse and Joel’s killer. Trying to build empathy for her but we all had hatred towards her which was a horrible way of delivery on how the story was structured. Actually no the game forces you to like Abby, which is a horrible way showing the aftermath of this. There was no need to make the player have to play her as of how the game was structured. Abby felt very unrealistic, she shouldn’t have muscle like that and no I’m not saying that every women doesn’t have the ability to gain that. No I’m saying she shouldn’t have big muscles like that since it’s a zombie apocalyptic world we’re I’m sure they don’t have much food like that since there’s few resources just as every other supply. Ellie feels out of character in game just as Joel’s death, when we get to her beating Nora, she doesn’t feel as much pissed off as she was when she was killing David. Yes I understand they were both different situations but I felt it could’ve been handled better. David wanted to chop Ellie, but Nora was a person who stood along side with Joel’s death. Ellie should’ve hit Nora interrupting as she spoke of her immune system, making her talk, showing how mad she is, of how badly she wants this revenge. This game was made to be hatred as the first was love. But we don’t feel hatred from Ellie, just hatred from the fans of this game. Not to mention of how we don’t see Nora getting beaten up but we see Joel getting clubbed. Shows a bigger disrespect to the character. There’s not enough character development other than Ellie (a bit). We were also given the most unnecessary sex scene, no need to have that. Ellie didn’t feel as much emotional during the aftermath of Joel, which is what bothered me, along with Tommy. Not to mention the ending, it destroys Ellie, this isn’t a game of hatred or revenge anymore. Doesn’t even feel like a Last Of Us Game. It was about survival, now it’s about killing people and having sexual acts along with pointless events. This game is the biggest F U to the fans. Majority of the fans are going to pretend this never happened, everything could’ve been delivered better within the story. So far it’s the biggest F U to the fans and the company. I know Naughty Dog won’t survive this lost, not just because of the people who left the project, but the amount of disappointing fans. Creator of Naughty Dog, basically had sexual intercourse with every fan which did not give consent. Wish I did read the leaks, this made my brother having to suffer to fix the PS4, and buy The Last Of Us Part 2 twice due to issues of the PS4. As us fans get a F U from naughty dog, we give one back but one much harder. Never again to trust them and buy a product from them.… Expand

    A game in which I had high expectations for the first part, it was one of my favorite games. The simple story of a simple revenge, overly large areas to explore being a linear game to get 4 resources and the over-inclusiveness makes it a very boring game. I am sad that they destroyed a saga that could be unforgettable in a good way.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everyone forgot what happened to Ellie at the Chapter Winter in the first game. That season changed her and took away a lot of her innocence and love. The story for Part II isn’t perfect and I didn’t like playing as Abby. Ellie is the same character from Part I she lost her innocence before that game even ended. Joel has had to deal with his lie all this time and Ellie knew it as seen in a flashback from the trailer for a second and in gameplay. Ellie’s worst fear was ending up alone and... it happened. I get the split liking and disliking of this game and this is the very first game review I’ve ever posted on Metacritic but I have to say I enjoyed what I witnessed but it wasn’t perfect, but still a good game and good story just not fantastic. And I’ve played the **** out of Part I I’m not even exaggerating when I say I’ve played Part I 16 times and I played it 2 more times in a span of 2 months before Part II dropped. I was ready and had huge refreshes on the story. I also stayed away from the leaks but I did know how Joel died just not when and how fast he did. This is a definite should play all around, define your own opinion on games and media it’s what we all have the ability to do. Judge this game on your own terms, I did. Thank you for reading … Expand

I got to understand the perspective of the "villiian" and realise that she was just the same as Ellie. So many people leaving bad reviews just can't get past the black and white / good guy / bad guy separation. Maybe move on from Disney and open your mind to something a bit more grown up.

    The gameplay was a bit too similar to the original but the world was just gorgeous. I found it a lot harder to get past some of the bosses than the original too.

    The story was really well done - it was a roller coaster of emotions. If you don't like feeling really really bad and really really sad...maybe not the game for you.    … Expand

    The only bad thing is that the sections can be longer than normal and that can get you overwhelmed. The most important thing is the messages that the game wants to convey to you.     The most important thing is the messages that the game wants to convey to you. And that's just beautiful

    Gameplay 10/10 : It builds on the gameplay of the first game and completely refines it, making it much more fluid in combat and stealth.

    Graphics 10/10 : The graphics are simply spectacular, although they are not the best I have seen, there is no other game that is above this on a technical and visual level that can move a ps4.

    It’s a great overall game and it’s definitely worth playing, people who are hating just cant take a sad story or they didn’t understand the story. Don’t listen to the small minded people telling you not to play it, give it a shot, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game epitomizes what the “The Last of Us” franchise is all about. It’s against the grain, and it’s designed to make you uncomfortable. There are no heroes (if you thought Joel was one, you’re delusional), only survivors with checkered pasts.

    The characters and relationships are what drive this series. Even those new additions with little to no backstory, like Dina and Jessie. They did an incredible job making every character seem deeply human and complex, which has always been a strength of their’s. The story itself was so real. Naughty Dog created something that we can connect to as human beings. The moral battles they force us to fight are equal parts excruciating and exciting. And it’s mentally exhausting, in the best way possible. Put yourself in Abby’s shoes and tell me you wouldn’t do the same to Joel. Ditto with Ellie and the masses of WLF soldiers she slaughtered. They both had their reasons, and we’re not allowed to judge one without judging the other.

    This was an emotional experience. One with far fewer ups than downs. But it was hauntingly beautiful.



    If you wanted a happy ending, you learned nothing from the first game.    … Expand

Yes, the game can be a little cliche in a lot of moments and it does have a few writing issues (that are not that bad as people say), but I love the way the game made me participant in such a conflicting story that range between love, hate and all the other emotions that radiate from those two. The game really made me think about the importance of our actions as humans and how those actions determine our place in this world. Man, there is so much more I can write about, but I prefer people to experience it for themselves

    A 10/10 does not mean is a perfect game, there are no perfect games and there will never be, in this case I just think the game is an outstanding piece of media, but find a little silly to abstract a complete experience in just a simple number.

    Even tho this game was a wonderful experience for me, I completely understand how a lot of people can have mixed or negative opinions, to those people (and to the ones that watched it in a walkthrough video -nothing wrong with that-) I ask, please give a second opportunity to this game, not now but in the future and hopefully with a different perspective, maybe you will love it or maybe you will still hate it, but if you don't try... you will never know.

I really do believe this would have been better as a stand-alone/spin-off game, with different characters to the first, but even then it would be a boring game with huge pacing issues. The pacing of this game is terrible. The order of events is baffling. Some parts felt rushed, others felt so dragged out I found myself extremely bored. For a story driven game, I simply can't give this a score higher than 3 because the writing is lazy, sloppy and cringe-worthy. I'm a huge fan of the first game, so I really wanted to like this sequel, I even got the collectors edition expecting to love it as much as I did the first. It didn't even take me an hour of playing the game to realise it was mediocre compared to the first game (which in my opinion is a masterpiece). I hoped it would get better but it just got worse and worse. Finishing the game felt like a chore, it dragged on and on with no real goal in sight. The ending was awful, one of the worst endings I've ever seen in a game, movie or TV show. I feel like the writer had a mediocre story he wanted to tell, without any care or respect for the fans of the first game, fans that waited 7 long years for this sequel, hoping for something better. I do feel like I wasted my time and money on this game, and I honestly don't think I'll be purchasing another game from Naughty Dog. The Last of Us was Naughty Dog's one hit wonder, which is a shame because it had such high potential, but ultimately ended up being like a long drawn-out episode of The Walking Dead, which btw I'm pretty certain The Walking Dead (TV show) is where the writers of this game plucked some of their bad ideas from.     Let’s be honest, the game is close to perfection. The emotional rollercoaster you experience is like nothing else. If people don’t agree with the story, please stop reading books. Take the stories as the writer made them. The acting of the characters is so good and the switch between a cutscenes and gameplay is like it should be. Naughty Dog, please don’t never change!

    reading the other comments here on the website I realized that the players were not really prepared for this masterpiece. the last of part 2 expanded the first in all aspects. impeccable graphics, gameplay and facial expressions. best game I've ever played. The history is incredible.

Gameplay in the 2nd one is insane and the artwork is out of this world. Although this is the case, I just feel that the creators really destroyed the series with this game. The story was honestly just awful and was all over the place. I am really upset that I waited 7 years to play as Joel and Ellie again only to spend the majority of the time playing as pointless characters and failing to sympathize with the main antagonistic. I also did not care for how anti-climatic the plot became. (SPOILER AHEAD) When Abby has her weapon on Tommy and Ellie, it makes no sense to ruin the momentum by switching off into an overdrawn out storyline of Abby's journey. Along with this the ending honestly makes no sense. A game that is clearly about violence and revenge decides, in the end, that violence isn't the answer??? Like come on, aside from the fact Joel got killed off in the worst way possible, why did Ellie just decide to forget all the pain she was caused and let Abby live after being so clearly determined to kill Abby. Overall, the game is decent at best and if you were a fan of the first one I'd recommend not ruining the series for yourself unless you are super bored.… Expand

    Graphics 6/10 : I know, they are awesome, but it was the minimum that ND should do, game released on the last leg of the ps4 (ps5 was announced few later), interact with the environment was a good point, break glasses, camouflage with the grass, but a lot of games had done it before, the high end graphics of this game was required, so there is nothing staggering about it.

    Music 10/10: Gustavo Santaolalla and the other people involved, was astonishing, impressive, perfect; Music keep you with tension, stressed and with the pressure of the situation and drives your feelings very well.

    Mechanics: 6/10: Nothing from out of the blue, nothing impressive a few improves, like prone, go across horizontal and vertical gaps, dodge enemy's attacks, nothing new, aiming is really BAD, stiffy as the part one, third person camera is so close, you'll receive at least 2 shots from an enemy flanking you in the time you turn the camera en locate the enemy, no improve from part 1 in that point, we can say that silencer was a good thing, but you could have done it before, like other games, crafting new menu, nothing helpful, just easier to manage, but all of this stuff could have done it on part 1.. So nothing impressive

    Story 3/10: The worst part, at least 5 year of development and all you had was.. vengeance, a lot of stuff you had to write or invent and the only thing you came up with, was the doctor's daughter taking revenge.. So worn-out; More about fireflies, Tommy's story, Joel's story after his daugther death, infection, i don't know.. but use the same argument that every single action movie use, it is so boring, lack of bond with some characters; 15 minutes of cinematographic about a marijuana lab and rate a kiss.. SERIOUSLY? there was no hook.. All story was out of core of the game purpose; Uninterested dialogues from Dinah, Interaction with Jesse was like talking to a wall or talking to a NPC from a PS1 game, awful, basically Jesse was created only the get Dinah pregnant, and Dinah was only created to make a lesbian relationship and create a image of two moms and one son.. So poorly script, story and cinematographic, no hook, just trying to keep you attached with inconsequential stories from the game..

    The game it is no bad, but we can give a high rank, cause we don't need another game from this franchise, we don't need story far away from the core, and this game it's a different tale, irrelevant, maybe if this game was named whatever but TLOU2 would it be good.    … Expand

    The last of us part 2 is the best game I've played till now. And I loved and cared for ALL the characters. It's just a piece of art that represents so many things like LGBT ppl, Love, Hate, Vengence, Violence, Forgiveness and Moving on. This is so rare in the game industry which is filled with nonsense stories and shooters.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part 2 is amazing. I've played the last of us part 1 more times than I can count, and I felt that part 2 was nothing like I expected and everything I did not know I wanted.

    Spoilers below. I understand certain criticisms of the game. But for the most part I think that the negative user reviews come from people who went into the game with preconceived opinions (because they read the leaks) and were never going to seriously play the game with an open mind. And honestly, I think any true fan of the TLOU made sure to avoid any info from leaks. I understand that Joel's death was unsettling, but that was the point. It was supposed to be unsettling. The last of us part 1 was full of surprises and deaths you didn't see coming. It wrestled with the with the topic of whether you, as Joel and ellie, were really any better than those that you were killing. This theme is further explored in part 2 by having you play as the character that you hate the most, and beginning to indetify with them. You see that their desire and passion for killing Joel is exactly the same as ellies motivation for killing Abby. You develop a bond with Lev not unlike the bond between Joel and ellie. I think that the individuals who hated this game basically just wanted the same exact experience that the last of us part 1 gave them. But considering that the characters have lived for 5 years since the events of the first game, it wouldn't make any sense for them to be exactly the same person that they were in part 1. They've grown and changed as people. I love that naughty dog took so many risks in creating this game, but when you take risks you are bound to trigger snow-flake gamers who don't want change. The bond that ellie and Joel have is beautiful, and seeing it further explored is what people wanted. I feel that this game still delivered that, just not in the form that people were expecting. The last of us games are games about love and fighting for those you love, and part 2 were centered around these themes just as much as part 1. And anyone who hated these games because of LGBT themes: well, I'm just not going to change your mind on that so I won't really address it. Basically, I loved this game. I thought that the gameplay was fantastic, fast paced, methodical, and just all around perfectly enjoyable. The story was amazing to experience. The atmosphere and tone were so utterly the last of us. Definitely buy this game. Haters gonna hate, but for once the critics got it right. It is insane how low of scores the butt hurt fans are giving the game. I think they are likely just doing this to tank the rating. I mean seriously, if you didn't like the game, that is fine, but 1 star? Seriously, even if you hated it, it obviously deserved better than 1 star. Fallout 76 is a game deserving of 1 star. You can't honestly say that this game is 1 star bad. If you gave it a 5 or less, I think you are drastically exaggerating any issues you had with this game. But that's all for my rant. Loved TLOU part 2. Play it with an open mind. You'll love it. Now I am just hoping for some multiplayer. Cuz damn I love factions from part 1.    … Expand

    Love it or hate it this game has done something no game has ever done before on every level, anticipation, Preorders, controversy, backlash all of it!

    This game is so impressive i can’t even start describing it. It made me feel so many things and completely immersed me in its world. Its a strong story, not easy to digest at times, which just makes it so much better. Mechanically, this game feels great, with a lot of freedom in choosing your play style and i would even go as far as comparing it to mgs v. An absolute must play.

    I was originally gonna say that this game was mediocre, which for me would be a 5, but that would be a dishonest reflection of my experience with this game. After 24 hours of all this game has to offer, I couldn't bring myself to play the 2 or so hours I needed to finish. Put simply, it was not an experience I enjoyed. There were pieces of a game I would've liked scattered within the mess of the painstakingly rendered brutality, but those scenes accounted for 2 hours out of the 24 at the absolute most.

    The game's problem isn't "SJW propaganda" or anything like that. It has progressive themes, but it's not as in your face about it as many would have you believe. Do I care about the game's progressive choices when I don't enjoy it? No.

    The game is the most realistically rendered on the PS4. The amount of detail put into making the environment and characters as visually realized as they are should be commended. Does this save me from how depressing the game is to play? No, but it's a major reason why I could put up with it for so long. Unfortunately, the level of detail was also part of what made it so depressing. Any non-zombie deaths in this game are hard to take part of without completely shutting off your empathy.

    There's a similar argument to be made for the sound. It's wonderful in terms of the score and the sounds of all the weapons, but if a non-zombie dies, the game's audio is a huge part of what makes murder so brutal.

    The gameplay is similar mechanically to the first game, but the levels are more expansive and the AI are somewhat coordinated. Usually the agency in how you tackle a level would be great, but I could never skip the fights thanks to the confusing, labyrinthian layout of each one.

    The story is downright weird. There are times where it's great, but there are more times where the story is predicated on hard-to-believe coincidence or barely existant to begin with. Given how airtight the first game was, I have no clue how this happened.

    If Neil Druckmann doesn't want to use the word "fun", fine. But there were too few points where I felt immersed enough to appreciate it, much less have fun. I could play the final parts of the first Last of Us because I was invested in the story. I could understand the character even when I didn't agree with them AND THANKS TO how invested I was, I could see it through. That second part is obviously important somehow, because I could play through what was a way more catastrophic choice in the first game, while in this game the stakes are drastically lower and I've had to put it down for good. The accessibility options are great, though. That's something that's great, and I hope more games do that.

    I wish I liked this game. If you think you will, don't let me stop you. But whatever your stance, take your time to consider those with the opposing views. No one's an enemy of anyone here. We just wanna play games, and I think we all forget that sometimes.    … Expand

    Tlou Part II will go down as a classic game that people talk about for years to come. You shouldn't talk about a game if you haven't played it. **** leaks....

    I can’t remember the last time I was so drawn in by a story. I couldn’t put it down. Gameplay is excellent. Fair warning, it’s incredibly violent. Some of the best graphics I’ve ever seen on a home console

    I agree with the critique of the supporting characters being too flat, but Ellies story of revenge and the exploration of her rage still makes the story interesting to me. And even if I didn’t find it interesting, there’s simply no way it’s a 0. Giving a 0 is acting on pure initial    Giving this game a 0 is a disgrace. I agree that the story should be the main focus for a TLOU game, and that is also why I’m not at 10/10, since the story of the first game was better without a doubt - and probably something that will never be achieved in a video game again.

    But giving it a zero is like a 2-year old throwing their plate of vegetables on the ground and yelling “I don’t like it!”. Please people, can we have some perspective...    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can totally understand the reasons for the mixed reviews here having been a big fan of the first game and having been so excited to play the sequel.
    The main issue for me is the structure of the story, I liked the different perspectives as you played through both characters, however the game did feel drawn out and you are forced to like Abby when in reality both sides are in the wrong. As someone who is in the LGBT community, I don’t believe the poor reviews are related to that at all or female characters, it is more the story structures and lack of choices you are given. Gameplay and some of the ideas are excellent, graphics and setting are incredibly beautiful in a dystopian way. Just a shame that it feels like the moral of the story overrides what the players wanted which is a satisfying and rewarding game over a “lesson”    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
