This game managed to fool me big time. It brought me back in time when I was a kid and had much brighter gaming experience. For that trick alone I would give a 10. But there are also incredible graphics with a ton of details, atmospheric locations and disgusting ( in a good way) story.

The game is fantastic in many ways but the story is too bad for such a heavily narrative game.

I love the fact that ND created strong and really interesting hbtq-characters, I love the music, the graphics and the performances of all the voice actors. The game-play is well balanced and so much fun. It is an impressive game in all aspects except for the most important one, the story.

However, the writing which concerns dialogue and notes found in game is really good. The failure lies in how the story progresses, how it made me feel and also not feel anything for the characters. How the story is puzzled together and how moments of expected built up climax feels like a complete waste of time and effort. I believe that Neil and the other writers will learn from this and will write amazing scripts for Naughty Dog in the future. Even the best people sometimes fail. Even though I had a lot of fun playing this game, the biggest sensation that I was left with after I finished was emptiness and disappointment.

I was actually moved by Henry and Sam in TLOU 1 but in this part, I cared for no one because they didn't develop NO ONE!, last but not least.

Но не трогайте The Last of us. Expand

Mujeres violentas y masculinizadas matando hombres blancos.

Gameplay mechanics are what you could expect from ND, slightly tweaked for a much more satisfying gameplay experience. Starting the game with a knife does suck out some of the tension in clicker confrontations, but the difficulty curve shoots upwards, so don’t get too comfortable. Don’t be afraid to adjust the difficulty throughout your journey (the difficulty settings are a great evolution more games should adopt), but latter difficulty settings enhance the immersion and tension. I can’t think of the last time I’ve had so much post-game discussion and debate with friends, maybe Metal Gear Solid 2? After my first run though, I confidently moved this into my top 3 video games of all time. I will die on this hill. Expand

The game is a sequel to the first one, meant to play in extension to the first one. The storytelling, harsh environment, and beautiful combat and crafting system adds a whole new level to everything. 10/10.

In this field this game succeeds in many ways as you go on your bloody path towards vengence for the death of joel you come to realise not everything is black and white. The mist powerful part of this story is when you let abby go showing how hard it is to just let go of your anger or risk losing everything i loved every minute in this world and the most shocking part for me is realising there are no real villains here just 2 people caught in a sea of hate and vengence. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's actually embarrassing, that you can "review" a game without Having played it. So many reviews from the same day the game came out, when the game clearly is 20+ hours.

With that being said. It's hard for me to imagine people not understanding this game. A beautiful game that shows exactly how different people are.
We have to understand how they try to squish in the theme, not only "forgiveness", but also how people cope with loss and pain.
I think that flew over the head of a lot of the younger "reviewers".
The game isn't trying to make us "like" Abby. It's just trying to show that not all is black and white, but with the combination of amazing Animation, it was way more personal and gritty, putting a knife through someones throat that is playing a video game on their phone. We have experienced so much violence in movies and in games. That makes it easy to shoot the *bad* guy.

In the beginning of the game, we see how Joel is talking to Tommy about something he has done.
Something he has never talked with anybody about in his life. Something that has been weighing on him.

As we hear Dina say later that Ellie probably should talk to her about her feelings/about what happened. Ellie mentions that Joel wouldn't have done that.
That's exactly the problem with both Joel and Ellie. Of course they are imperfect characters, they don't know how to cope with their problems, and since Ellie was "raised" by Joel, she would never have really understood how to cope with extreme emotion.
Through the game we then experience her frustration. To begin with, you can say that she definitely wants revenge, but through her story it was also a way to cope with her loss. Was she going to sit home in Jackson? Impossible, she had never learned to mourn anybody, and the only way she can combat the pain, is by anger and hatred.
This brings us to Abby's part. We see what she went through by Joel's hand.
Joel single handedly stopped the cure for the entire world. He is not a good guy. He is just a guy.
Who puts his own selfishness and pain over ANY other human being.
Playing as Abby is definitely a shock and confuses the player. That's exactly the kinds of emotion only this game could bring to such an extreme.
I loved Abby's part, though it was a bit exhausting playing as her since we just played as Ellie, and frankly we would just get back to her, but over time it really shone through how normal all these people are.

The end of the game, where we are the cabin, everything is "perfect".

Ellie can't let go and just like his brother, Tommy can't either.
Ellie hasn't coped with her loss still, after so much death, she still hasn't brought pain to Abby(She feels like) As Abby has to her. As the player we kinda beg for her to stop, we are Dina in this scenario.

That brings us the the very last scene.
Abby is weak, she has been through hell.
Ellie let's her go, and then they are at the boats.

But Ellie just feels this void in her heart, she doesn't know what to do with it, other than fight it out.

She never learned to cope, only her own way, she never really learned to forgive. But she was going to try.
So in the end she wasn't forgiving Abby. She was coming to terms that she was forgiving Joel.

Maybe this game isn't a 10/10, it's definitely close. But because of the abundance of troll reviews, that wants a "new" game that is different, but when it's given to them, they cry.
    So yeah A 10/10 game.

I remember so well watching Neil sitting in a Q&A in 2016 saying, trust us we will deliver and give you the TLOU Part 2 Joel, Ellie and you deserve. It pains me to say, you failed. Abysmally.

I truly feel Naughty Dog have broken TLOU for us and destroyed all the emotional attachment we had with Ellie going into TLOU Part 2. We all knew Joel was likely to die. Even before the leaks (which I swear I never read). So many YouTubers had already predicted it and Neil had said TLOU2 was going to be all about Ellie. It was barely that. 50% of it was a pointless grind of the new gameplay/mechanics and characters aka Abby. Come on guys, Abby was just back-story.

In my honest opinion, the game was a jumbled mess. Too much flip-flopping back and forward in time. Joel was killed too early, the Abby playtime should have been shorter as we all just wanted to get through it and get back to playing Ellie.

So much of the story could have been played in a different sequence and have the same effect. Hell we could have even played as a Seraphite !!

TLOU2 just wasn't as engaging. It didn't draw you in like the first game, it didn't get inside you and create the same emotional bond/attachment. Simply put, the story telling was AWFUL.
    Environments 10/10 Mechanics 9.9/10 AI 9/10 Music 10/10 Story 1/10 Characters 8/10 Transitions 11/10 (best ever) Gameplay 9/10 Melee 10/10

WTFH was that final fight with Abby in the water all about ?? Plain dumb and felt very rushed.
TLOU was a true masterpiece. This had all the components for a fantastic part 2 building on what the first game started but ultimately fails to deliver.

Great gameplay and graphics never make up for a poor story. I felt more engaged with Uncharted 4 than TLOU Part 2. This game just reminded me how good the first game was and isn't the PS4's swansong in the way I hoped it would be.

First game draws you and pulls all your emotional strings. TLOU Part 2 seems to shove stuff in your face and expect you to be absorbed. It fails.

Because it was 3AM, I fell asleep shortly after and quickly forgot about it. Two years later, trailers began to appear in my YouTube recommendations and I watched them as well as the E3 demo. The game was expected to come out later that year, and so naturally I bought a PS4 because of just how much I loved the first game on PS3. The game is delayed again. For two years I waited, buying other games for my new system just to keep me occupied while I anticipated the eventual release of the sequel to the possibly most legendary story driven game of all time. I waited through the delays. I waited through everything. Then, a mere few months before the game's official release in 2020, a Naughty Dog dev angry with his or her working conditions leaks the plot of the game. Eventually this information makes its way to me, and I as well as many others begin questioning whether or not this game is actually all its been chalked up to be as not only did these leaks completely contradict the trailers and advertisements, but they also made the game's story sound like a needlessly contrived mess - something not good for a game intended to put so much focus upon the story. Despite these leaks, I and many others pressed on in the hopes that either these leaks were false, or that somehow the game would make up for it. Fast forward to June 19th, 2020. The game is finally released, and I - having been waiting two years for it - buy it day one. And I couldn't have been more disappointed. The graphics and sound design were lovely and the gameplay was acceptable, but the story from the beginning to the very end was the most upsetting and infuriating experience I have ever had in recent video game history. This game's advertising promised great things - things so great that it was the entire reason I bought a PS4 initially. And it failed to deliver on almost every single one of them. After playing through this game and having successfully gotten through this awfully contrived story, I am now broken and disturbed. I cannot sleep. I am barely eating. And I've lost hope in the entire medium and industry as a whole. But at the same time, there is a little bit of light at the end of this dark, cold, and lonely tunnel.
Because if Neil Druckmann is allowed to keep his job while writing god awful stories like this, getting high ratings and praise from critics despite having basically confessed in Tweets and podcasts that he set out intentionally to make a divisive game with a story most fans would hate... Then surely even I could reach his level of influence and power by writing stories much better than this one. All in all, this is something that has bothering me for quite some time now ever since I completed the game shortly after its release, and I've been longing for an opportunity to get this off of my chest and saw the review section as an excellent way to do so, seeing as that's its purpose. I deliberately avoided mentioning any spoilers so as not to ruin it for anyone interested in buying the game, but for the sake of your own mental and even physical health... I implore you not to. That is all.

Love the artistic and technical, besides their Bugs and glitches (that i've found a couple of them through the gameplay) aspect of the game though. But i think the bad things are bigger, that the positives at least for my personal taste. If you like the first game, i would NOT recommend this product.

The gameplay was excellent and the addition of the prone position and the tall and short grass for cover really added a great stealth dimension to the game that was absent in the first game. The story may be divisive but personally I loved it - I absolutely hated playing as Abby to start with but over time it humanises her character and makes you question Ellie's motives. In the end I was satisfied with how it all played out and felt like it was a fitting end to what was a great story.

Technically this game is a masterpiece on 7 year old hard ware. The way they engineered the loading times after death in comparison to some other games was welcome. The motion capture and facial expression animations are unrivaled in gaming.

As for me, the first and second part would be ideal to combine together, because it is a whole story that will cause you a storm of emotions if you penetrate it. The only thing I want to say about the plot is that the scriptwriters revealed each character, thereby forcing us, the players, to rethink the question once again: “where is the truth?”, “And who is right?” NaughtyDog created an amazing game. And I'm sure that the high bar that the developers set in the second part will be very difficult to surpass for many more years. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a game that received a lot of criticism over its story. Some of it coming from a place of love and grief over losing Joel; some of it from anger at having to play part of the game as Abby - the girl that killed Joel. However, most of it just seems to be coming from people that have an animus toward either NaughtyDog, Neil Druckman or Sony. I have one question to everyone in the latter camp - if another studio, director, corporation developed this game would you have the same feelings about it? It all seems a bit manufactured at this point to me. All the outrage, all the bad review scores, the videos of people getting bent out of shape and rage quitting/trashing the game over its story or gameplay - it’s getting old. So here is my informed opinion on why this game is great. First, the story - let’s get it out of the way. Yes, Joel dies; yes, you play as his killer - Abby. None of that makes the story, or the game inherently bad. You might not like the fact Joel dies, you might not like being put into the shoes of Abby, but everything in the game works to craft a compelling narrative experience. Playing the game is essential to appreciating the story in this case as well; you have to be the one engaged in the action, controlling the characters and experiencing their joy, pain and loss right alongside them. Sharing in their triumphs and failures brings you closer to them, just like in TLoU. If you just passively watch the game’s cinematics instead of experiencing them after controlling the characters to that point, you miss out on the attachment you form... The bond you build. Even for me to describe my experience with the story would be too much to detail here. Instead, I will try to be brief; the story is one that is better experienced by actually playing through the game rather than reading a review of one persons opinions or watching someone else play the game just so you can see what happens next. Seriously, you may come away loving the story (as I did) or maybe you get done and you absolutely hate it (or possibly something in between). Either way you owe it to yourself to come to a conclusion on your own with respect to the story. Honestly, it is going to come down to your taste for stories like this. Next is the gameplay, all I have to say here is it is better in every way over the first one. Shooting feels improved with better hit and kill indicators, less general sway to weapons when aiming, expanded and improved crafting, character skills and weapon upgrading. Environments are more beautiful with so much more details packed into every square block of downtown Seattle. Enemies show entrance and exit wounds after being shot, especially in the head. Throw an explosive at them and they will probably be torn apart as legs and viscera go flying all around. These violent expressions are probably why the combat/gunplay feels so damn fun. You relish scavenging for supplies because you know it means you will get more parts to upgrade your weapons; or maybe you find supplements that give you new abilities to keep a healthy supply of bombs and trap mines crafted and in you inventory. Not to mention this game has the most extensive accessibility and gameplay customization options I have ever seen. It is basically designed to be playable even if you are deaf and blind... So yeah. This game does so much better for the actual gameplay. I think this is not debatable at all. So if you are a fan of the gameplay in the first title, this one will leave you breathless and yearning for more. Overall, the game does play somewhat differently from the first, but there is enough in common, that it makes you feel right at home. I will try to wrap this up with some of my favorite things that the game delivered for me. 1. Incredible story that griped me and had me exploring my emotions and re-evaluating my stance on characters. 2. Combat is beautifully violent and such a pleasure to start mastering to develop your own tactical approach to encounters. 3. The music is so sharp and only serves to enhance the tone and attitude the game is evoking. 4. Top notch environments with stunning scenery, characters and graphics. This game will hold the spot as favorite so far this year. So I really hope this helps you decide on whether to pick it up or not. If you do/did and the story is wearing on you, understand it is supposed to, but if you really don’t like it - I am sorry. I know it might not be for everyone, but thankfully you can skip cutscenes and pretend it didn’t happen. Now if you don’t like the gameplay/were only in it for the story... this is your cue to avoid the game then. Hopefully, if that’s the case, you didn’t commit to buying it outright and just rented a copy/borrowed from a friend. I seriously love this game and hope with time people go back and revisit it with a fresh perspective and give the story a chance; I think there will be a newfound love for TLoU pt II Expand

And if you are into cinema, you surely will appreciate all the hard work put into crafting it's scenes, as these show some of the best acting and directing ever put on a videogame, as well as a beautiful (and depressing) world.

It is definetely not for everyone, as some of the risks it takes don't really work out in the end (also, one could definetely tell it's maker's political views while playing the game, which could make the experience less enjoyable if you don't agree with these views) . This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mechanically and technically, this game is good, with beautiful graphics and smooth gameplay. But that doesn't make the game good standalone. The story is forced and poorly written. It is not the concept of Joel's death that boggles my mind, but more the fashion in which he dies. An amazing well thought out character with the most dishonorable death one can imagine. Ellie's personality pulls a complete 180 and now apparently is the antagonist. You must play as Abby for nearly half of the game despite the game supposedly being from Ellie's point of view, and Naughty Dog forces you to "sympathize" with Abby via a load of forced cutscenes that attempt to make the player feel for Abby. The ending is ridiculous in how Ellie has one flashback of Joel and decides to forgive Abby for everything despite killing many to reach Abby and losing two fingers in the process. That alongside the fact that Joel, by no means, was a pacifist, so a vision of Joel should only make Ellie's want for revenge stronger. Further, on Joel's death, Joel survived in this world for nearly 26 years, he would know not to reveal all of his information to a couple of strangers that he just met. Joel is the man that ran over a man pretending to be hurt because he knew it was an ambush. He also is the man that left a family on the side of the road in the VERY beginning of the outbreak, so Joel has no reason to give away all that he did. With all of that, the game gets worse with the obvious political agenda that ND and Druckmann have going on with this game. For example, during the party, after Dina and Ellie kissed, Seth called them a not so nice word, the next day, he made them sandwiches and genuinely seemed sorry, but Ellie was not forgiving, claiming that he is a "bigot", yet Ellie forgives Abby, a murderer because she had a flashback of Joel.

In conclusion, it is evident that Abby has plot armor, that the story is poorly written and full of holes and loose ends, there is a lackluster ending that poorly represents the cycle of revenge, and there is a clear political agenda that is within this game.
In other words, just play the first one and forget this ever happened.

The environment and the level design in this game is crafted to such an incredible detail that makes it the most beautiful game on the PS4 right now and yes, even more so than Death Stranding.

The enemy AI design is something that is innovated in a never before seen approach which adds new behaviours and they are much more intelligent and cognitive which make you try out different scenarios and continuously change your position.

Now, let's talk about the story. The story indeed takes a darker turn but still have some very beautiful moments to balance out all the lows. This story captivates the reality and practicality of the situation the characters are in and tough choices they had to make in them. These choices also have consequences that cannot be undone.
Without spoiling the story, I would just say that the game lays out different perspective of the characters and justifies the path they take.

This is a very emotional journey that I recommend anyone with a PS4 to experience.

Good game. I am 30 years old. Good gameplay (hard mode) and plot. Now I started playing a new game plus.

The first one was my all-time favorite video game until I played this one. the story and gameplay are so realistic and they actually found a way to make it better than the first one. Genius! Expand

I had my doubts about the review bombing on Metacritic well this is what I'll say after finishing this game after spending over 30 hours on it. This game had really great gameplay. But the story is incredibly pathetic and petty. I truly believe Naughty Dog wants gamers to forget about Joel in the **** manner possible. 'How come?' you ask me. Well it's Joel who taught Ellie how to play the guitar, handle a gun and self-defense. And when the game starts in Jackson Joel was murdered by Abby. Then near the end Ellie egged Abby to fight. Abby bites off Ellie's two digits so she can't play the guitar anymore in the epilogue. She even has a change of heart in finishing off Abby so lets her off the hook and denies us the satisfaction of exacting revenge. But no Ellie wasn't meant to be saved because she was supposed to be the cure for the pandemic. This is every kind of messed up possible. When she returns home to find her lover Dina long gone and can't even play her guitar properly during this depressing apocalypse, how much more depressing can this game get? Of course she leaves her guitar behind, which is symbolic of leaving Joel.

A new beginning I suppose... I definitely won't be getting TLOU3 if that ever comes out.

    Gameplay 9/10

Besides the awful plot, the worts part is that it was boring. The additions to the gameplay fell dull and unispired and the ending of the game makes no sense whatsoever.

No game has ever had the guts to do what this game did.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is very boring. Gameplay mechanics are transferred from Part I without any changes. Characters are unable to make me feel something. SJW content and Abbynator are most negligible problems of the game. The game was killed by empty story and boring gameplay. Expand

Awful story which destroys any pleasure that you could have playing this game. Repetitive game play with almost all of the game play mechanics taken from the previous game.

From the Death of Joel right through to the explanation of said death I was gripped. The player isn't really given a chance to breathe, adding to the frantic nature of which TLOU universe resides. This game deserves all the praise and accolades and much much more. Here's to the future of the franchise Expand

Enhorabuena Naughty Dog

Astonishing game, amazing story (sometimes too clingy or with long cutscenes), great improvement in the gameplay and incredible graphic quality. I am saddened by all these stupid reviews of people who did not even play it. Or played it without an unbiased critical mindset. 10/10

as a game it's really good. THe graphics, audio, voice acting are spectacular

The gameplay is pretty much the same as the last game with a few changes, not to say it's bad quite the opposite, it's a genuinely fun experience The story by itself isn't too bad either, the review bombing is extremely dramatic but in reality it's perfectly fine. I can understand the complaints people

The story by itself isn't too bad either, the review bombing is extremely dramatic but in reality it's perfectly fine. I can understand the complaints people have with it compared to the first game, but even if you're really upset and angry about that direction for whatever reason, the rest of the game is super well done.

Review bombing is becoming more and more common and unfair, I recommend the game if you want a good / fun experience with a bit of suspense.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
