That I wanted to have my revenge, my way. But the story was so compelling that it pulled me forward, sometimes it tugged me forward in spite of my own resistance. This is what the game seeks to do. It seeks to be so compelling that you are driven to seek a resolution, even if you have to take an undesireable path to it. And, also as intended, the path is a challenging one. Not just in gameplay or for the character, but for the player. The challenge is in confronting anger, rage, and vengeance, however well warranted and to see the consequences and to feel the weight of irrevocable decisions, even when those decisions didn't have a viable alternative.

This game is about violence. And it is about pain. And it is about the loss of identity in giving yourself over to rage. If you are a STAN for characters over story you will probably not like this game, however beautifuly and impressively designed its imagery, graphics, details. This game is gorgeous. And with so few hiccups to execution that the most significant impact to my playthrough was my own obsessive compulsive need to conserve ammunition and to execute my tqctical plans as expertly and perfectly as possible - leading to many reloads when I as a player executed less than perfectly.

The game's sound design is atmospheric, and haunting and paranoia-inducing as much as the first Last of Us. The use of audio cues to indicate when your actions risked observation were downright anxiety provoking. The creature performances are absolutely frightening so much so that when stalkers become silent you the player become even more terrified and paranoid.

The gameplay, while a bit on rails as expected, does give you big open playgrounds at times which helps to alleviate the feeling of being constrained alkng a linear path hurtling towards conclusion, there truly are moments where you can stop to just appreciate the incredibly detailed environments. In my playthrough I encountered no technical glitches or game-breaking hard stops at all. I never encountered a consumable or acquireable I could not pick up. I never got stuck in a wall or door. And the camera did a fantastic job of positioning itself intuitively. While there wasn't a clear satsifying button push to lock you into the use of cover, the game does a WONDERFUL truly genre-defining job of having the character models KNOW when they are in proximity to a hard surfsce. There were times I didn't feel as in cover as I would have liked, and there is no mechanism for leaningx so often "peeking " involves actually exposing yourself to some degree, the game is actually very forgiving in this and I never felt like my choices were punished by some of the less precise tactical movements.

Gameplay choices are consistent with the original, included the still-baffling choice that at least one character has to manufacture shivs in order to have a stabbing weapon when, 20 years-on, a fightning knife should seem de rigeur for a post-apocalyptic infectious disease zombie outbreak. Improvements to melee weapons are often little more than aesthetic and their design for arguing that they have been improved continues to beg the question of "Really? How does duct tapping half a pruning shear to a lead pipe make it any more effective or sturdy?" - a mechanic I think could've been tossed, but again, not inconsistent for the series.

Characters... so much to say about characters and almost all of it spoilers. The characters give weight to the consequences of decisions that are made throughout the game. This game makes an extraordinarily bold choice - one that I think many of the fans giving negative reviews fail to connect with the original story, even though the parallel is clear. The Last of Us does not have heroes. It isn't a game about heroes. Joel's actions at the end of The Last Of Us were heroic or villainous depending on your point of view, the same is true of Marlene. The post-apocalyptic nightmare world of cordyceps parasitism is a harsh world of survival and of violence and of killing. Often, as in the original, the most dangerous confrontations aren't with the creatures, they are with other survivors. The morality of confronting a kill-or-be-killed world where an act of vengeance can bring a living nightmare to life beyond the ever present fungal threat makes this game all too human. The most challenging thing about this game is that it asks us to confront ourselves. To allow ourselves to be taken to a point of raw emotional rage and pain and then to objectively see ourselves in the light of that for the monster in ourselves. By the end of the game I just wanted the violent cycle to end. I wanted there to be some future not bound by pain.

Naughty Dog CRUSHES it. They take you on a journey. And its lesson is humanity.

I give the score of 8/10 because the game has impressive details, but as a gamer I am not so prepared for the humanization they gave to the game. maybe in a few years I will be able to give a 10/10 to this beautiful game. When I first started playing as the other character I was a little pissed and was wondering if this was naughty dogs way of making me feel bad for them. After about an hour I was like **** it has worked” and I was starting to really like them. I grew emotionally attached to the side characters during the second half more than the first half. After beating this game and getting the platinum in it I haven’t been able to play other games due to not being able to find a game that had the gameplay and story like this one did. With all the hate about the LGQBT stuff. Yes it is in there but it does not shove it down your throat. It feels like it belongs and I felt it was done naturally and very well. Don’t listen to all the haters out there who have nothing better to do but try to trash a masterpiece due to their own ignorance. I highly recommend this game and suggest everyone keeps playing during the second half. Expand

I finished the game and i have to admit that i don't understand all this praise by critics. I can somehow understand why people hate it though. I think it's a mediocre game at best.

    Atmosphere:
The game definitely shows an astonishing environment. The graphics are phenomenal and i really liked the level desings. I think they are one of the best the playstation has to offer so far. The horror aspect of the game comes a little bit too short. The game fails here to create a really frightening atmosphere. I definetely give this game one point for graphics and one point for level design though.

    Gameplay:
The gameplay is very similiar to the first the last of us game. It's a combination of stealth enemy encounter, shooting, looting, video sequences and a few puzzles. It becomes very repetetive after a while and it ends being fun after you have seen the pattern :
story sequence -> human enemy encounter -> looting -> zombie encounter -> story sequence. That's the whole cycle of the game. Sometimes the order of the encounter is switched or theres a puzzle sequence within the looting sequence. But that doesn't change the fact that there are no new elements in the game. It's always the same and after a while it stops being fun. It's still not a bad gameplay, it deliveres what we expected. So i still give it one point for it's gameplay.

    Story:
Now the story is something where most people disagree and argue about. Personally i didn't like the story.

The first last of us had a very captivating story, about a battered man, who lost his daughter and finds new meaning in his life in the only immune person on earth, who would have to be killed in order to make a vaccine for the spread virus. It was hearthwarming how players learned to love these two characters as they grew to be some kind of family.

Last of us part 2 focuses on a completely different story. The story is about revenge and hate. The relationship between Ellie and Joel which the players really cared about is not really focused on.
Instead we get introduced to another character which we have to play for half the game. I can totally understand why people didn't like this part. I couldn't care less for the new characters and i even stopped sympathizing with Ellie because the story makes you. Overall the characters they tried to develop turned out boring and in many parts irrelevant. It's a completely different approach to the first game and it did turn out very bad. Therefore i don't give the game any points for it's story.

    Agenda:
The only reason why i mention this point is because it's really a big thing in this game. There's a lot about the presentation of woman in video games, trans characters (and trans oriented characters), gay-sex couples, ethnic and religious diversity to a point where it starts to distract from the story itself. I understand people who found it revolutionary to see all this things in a new triple A title. In my opinion it was too much and it was too forced. A lot of things were just there for the sake of it. It had nothing to do with the story and it didn't really help to develop the characters.
The amount of sexuality, gore and violence was too much for me as a player. I understood what they tried to emphasize with that but it was just too much. You don't get the option to play the game in a way you want. You have to get through all this violence because reasons. I think the devs could've made their point clear without all the unnecessary violence (and explicit scenes).

    Summary:
I think this game had a lot of potential. The issues people argue about were known by the producers and they still decided to keep it this way. I respect that as much as I respect the effort and work for this game.
I still don't recommend this game, because it's still a story driven game with a very poor written story. There are a few fun parts to play but it definetly doesn't justify a 94% rating by critics. As is said in the beginning, it's a mediocre game at best.

As far as game play goes, it seems to mix elements of Uncharted 4 and the original Last of Us, so that was fine and fun.

Bad story though. And this game should have been all about the story. Pathetic, cowardly attempt at exploring the human condition. Lacks the substance to back up the message it is trying to deliver, by filling the plot with holes and inconsistencies.

I played through the whole game and wanted to stop at every turn, for no payoff at the end. I've had an easier time digesting RE6. The graphics and gameplay mean nothing if you have to force yourself to get through it and never want to play it again. For a story based game, that is the aspect that this game lacks the most.

Last of us part 2 deserve the best picture and the game of the year. This kind of game brings the media to another level. If you are looking of a super hero kind of story, just pass your way. The story is more complex and deep, and can make you think about the different perspective between what is good and evil, and what post-trauma can be. Thank you Naughty dog for making such a masterpiece

The fact that people are giving this a 0 is just obvious nonsense. I get that people are mad the story didint go the way they wanted it to. Based solely off graphics, game play, sounds design, accessibility, ect the game deserves more than that. Not everyone hated the story and personally I give it a 8/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think I was too harsh and closed at first about this game because of the spoilers I heard about one of my favorite characters dying. As well as me having to play as the character who killed him and the story not fully continuing where the first one left off. However, after actually playing it I enjoyed even though it was pulling me around making me mad at some times. Yet, the story was unique, different and I liked it and I was able to actually start to like Abby as time went on. I understand why other people are getting upset about having to get use to new characters. While saying that there are some faults such as some characters do not have good enough character development but that can be over looked. I also feel like the continuity from the first game is a little off but thats fine if you are able to successfully create a new storyline with a theme. Overall I hope they create a part 3 and pick up on Ellie or Abby. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is a game that acts as a heartbreaking, but ultimately hopeful continuation of the first game. Many story concessions are made in order to create a narrative that challenges the player to reach deep down to empathize with actions and events that happen to characters that they might not agree with, but comes from a place of understanding. This is also a game that shares more with a show like The Leftovers rather than Part 1’s movie-like structure, such as The Road. I settled early on that the game works best when playing up to a critical cutscene, and then putting the controller down for the day, much like how I normally watch tv shows. This gives each section room to breathe on its own, and doesn’t make the game feel as overly long as I probably would have felt it I binged the whole game the day it came out. This may seem like me giving a pass for the game dragging itself out in order to pad run time, but I assure everyone that the game lends itself much better to an episodic format that the first game did, which came off as a story that worked better by playing in as few sittings as possible since the games story and characterization was condensed within a normal three act structure in a movie. Characters are given a focus by the writers and trials to overcome that stacks like tetris blocks that rise high enough that when the straight block lands perfectly to clear the board it provides this insane sense of emotion and payoff for trusting the writers and sticking through the brutal drama that follows the events of the characters. The gameplay is greatly improved from the first game by trying to keep its formula of “arena fight, scavenge, explore and scavenge new areas, repeat” until you reach a cutscene to break it all up. Even though I can break down the formula for the gameplay, that doesn’t lend the right amount of credence the game deserves with how natural and well put together the arenas are, and the improvements to the A.I. which challenges you to continually move and plan on the go, as opposed to being able to easily take down enemies with silent kills on maps with flat terrain and easily identifiable cover points that the first game often had. If I had one criticism it would be that the exploration side of gameplay tends to drag on because it can only offer the same few tricks for players. Prone and jumping have been added, and while it may not be one of those features that sets the world on fire, it is used to its extent to try its hardest to diversify the discovery of items, but safes wear out their welcome by the middle of the game, and become a harsh necessity if you want any of the upgrades they house. This game really does a fantastic job of evolving on not only the gameplay of the first game, but the story as well. The game really does wear its heart on its sleeve, and if you can let your guard down and trust the game and its story, you really won’t find a more emotional tale that can keep you engaged for 25+ hours and give you an emotionally satisfying conclusion. The mechanics are incredible too, giving you vast amounts of options on dealing with combat. But above all, the story that's being told has to do with overcoming trauma, betrayal, and attempting to heal. And what happens to those who become blinded by vengeance. It's a very realistic journey Ellie goes on, and anytime you deal with this subject matter, sad and frustrating encounters will happen, such as people you care about deeply dying. This is the violent feral world that has been established in the first game, and many people who are upset by these very realistic consequences, aka characters getting hurt or killed, are forgetting the world this game is set in. If you trust Neil Druckman and go along with the story that's being told, crying when s*** gets sad, raging when Ellie is rightly furious, falling in love when things get romantic and playful, it will only be a more powerful gaming experience. That's what is so good about The Last Of Us, how powerful it is, and this sequel knocks it out of the park. Plus it is the most gorgeous game I've ever seen. Please go in open-minded, and trust the storytelling, this game isn't about feeling good and having a rollicking good time, it's about the real human experience of living in the wasteland of the apocalypse told through Ellie's eyes, and they definitely 100% achieve that. Yes, I am an ordinary user and have also been waiting for the game for 7 long years. My personal assessment is 10/10 and I recommend that everyone start the game from start to finish, not paying attention to such trifles as lesbian relationships, which by the way is not news. Yes, the game is tough, but it is filled with non-trivial decisions by scriptwriters. Yes, perhaps many were waiting for a different story, including me. But this story will amaze you in the very heart, will not leave you indifferent and make you think. The combination of violence, cruelty and wonderful emotionally touching moments is really brilliant. Ellie has matured and the game has matured with her, no wonder. Elegant graphics, atmosphere, elaboration of locations, directing, good old gameplay ... all this really adds up to one of the highest quality games of the generation. What are all the little things for the development of which we so loved the first part or Uncharted series. The plot - many call it a weak spot, but in fact it is very strong and multifaceted, it just needs to be understood and felt. And frankly, such a plot gave me a lot more emotions than if it were trivial and kind. Emotions are just what it's worth playing games for. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me the Last of Us games are split 50/50 with one half about the mechanics, music, and graphics and the other half being the story. The first game smashed both and had a phenomenal story to which made you feel a proper connection between Joel and Ellie. So coming into the 2nd game with lose connections made it so hard to see Joel die, it was as if I’d lost someone in real life, the 1st game got me that connected. But I respect that decision and actually feel that was the best way to go about. Now the game could of done a few things like make us play as Abby first so we got more of an understanding from her side and maybe made us sympathies more with her. For me playing Abby was long and tenuous, but the one aspect I did like about it was seeing the side of what it’s like to be in faction (W.L.F). The ending I think could of been handled better we all have that connection with Ellie and so when she loses something it feels like we have to. So by going one more time to find Abby meant, not only had she already lost Joel but, she losses Dina and J.J and that last connection with Joel of playing the guitar, and in return she gets nothing back. I feel they could of allowed the ending too of gone two ways in which the player chooses to either stay with Dina and live her life or allow us to go and hunt down Abby and finish once and for all. This would of also of been interesting to see the stats of what people were choosing to stay with Dina or to go and kill Abby.

I’d still recommend buying this game because they do one half really well with the music, graphics and mechanics. They took a risk with the story and I don’t think it has paid of in the way they would of liked, I don’t think they realised how much of a connection we had with Joel and Ellie.

It is still a fun game to play and people complained about Dina and and Ellie’s relationship, Lev being trans-gender and Abby being to buff is just stupid. I liked what they did with Dina and Ellie and Lev it showed that even though the world had gone to **** there’s still that diversity.

Finally the one thing that concerns me now is if there is a 3rd game, if you remember when we first saw that teaser for Last of us 2 people went nut, people at the event where cheering. Now the only way I seeing there being a 3rd game is with Abby and Lev and could you imagine the response of a teaser trailer with those two. The reaction could be so bad there’s boo’s I’d like to hope there isn’t but there is very little if not no connection with Abby and Lev.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It could have became a masterpiece, but instead it's just ok

This review's vote is dedicated mostly to the game-design and program team work. Suggestions and the general game review are below
The game had all the potential to became a good and progressive mirror of our days with unreasonable hate, murder and cruelty. Many things though are completley ruining all the good and bright ideas wich are the most important thing of a game like this one.
First of all, my condolences to the game-designers and program writers, this vote I give purley to your work with eyes completley closed to the storytelling and characters writing. You deserve a better story.

The 7 goes to incredible work:
attention to details is huge, the way Joel covers his eyes whle the sun is up too bright, the way that ice breaks under pressure, the snow melts on the character's jacket, all theuse things are impressive. The progressive face animation is gorgeous, the movemens are so natural, realistic and, at my opinion very beautiful
The gameplay is mostly the same of a 1st game so there are no disapointmens in here, with some more things to do, like the rope that you can now use to climb in some locations etc. (the camera movement though makes me a little nauseous, the less blur would be great :)

And w're done with positive aspects

FIrst of all, the characters. They are a quiet forgettable. Close to the end I didn't feel anything
They are written, in my honest opinion and in many others, really really poorley. The idea that they should bring us is too much at the surface. It could have remain the major important theme of the story, but with more "elegancy", I'd say, integrated better into a post-apocalypce world.
Instead of making us play 10 final hours straight to the unpleasant (for most fans of 1st game also hatefull) character with a sad-sad story wasn't a good move at all

I see it narrowed better in this way:

-Reduce these 10 hours of Abby gamplay to atleast 5-6. And then distribute all these hours in between the Ellie gameplay. Like: one day of Ellie in Seattle and then the same day of Abby but shorter. This would have made the story more intresting and less boring. (that's why 7 in tot for gameplay)

-All the actions have it's consequences. After the huge story (wich could have been legendary, but it is very very flat all the sudden) we have a pointless ending, that (as I personally understand it) should have show us how self-distructive is hate for both sides.

But it is not that intuitive as the developpers might have thought it. I pretty much hate the fact that when the most of the playes disiked the game, the developers and "huge fans" with anger are accusing these gameres in intolleransy and call them a closed-minded. I'm personally always pro the new ideas, the new, better world with no (or atleast with less) hate and ignorance. But I would rather like to speak and hear aboud it a more profound, less superficial way. We gamers are not stupid:D
When you throw a game like this, throw a bunch of money into a project, a Huge quantity of the human resource for at the end give us a really cheep story with magnificent decoration, it brings back as a response a lot of noise (I'm starting to think This was your goal), and insead of understanding the idea people doesn't even notice it. They are just feeling anger, saddness and emptyness because of a spit into a soul. Murder their favorite character in a brutal way and then cover it with a poorly written story? I understand the reasons, I know what Joel've done.
But then you make us play for the "antagonist" while trying to raise sympathy to it? You can't start to sympathize a person just because he saved a zebra once. You can't do in either just because that person had a beloved dog wich "mean" Ellie murdered in a cutscene (in self-defense, I remind you). Forcing to hate Ellie and love Abby feels queit wrong. This is a cheapest mode ever existed to provoke compassion. If only the Abby's story would have been told with more accuracy... With less stamps. I am really sorry for what she's been through in her childhood. I'd like to know better This story, than to see how the writers are worthlessly trying to create a parallel between the duet of Abby and a child she starts all of the sudden to carry about, and the immortal duet of Joel and Ellie. These two aren't to replace.

-At the ending I'd rather like to have a choice who to fight for in a final battle. After a better storytelling than it is now, understanding better real reasons of both sides a gamer would have think very carefully whose side he is in.
And than also to have an option: to kill or to spare a life
This ending would have blown everyone's mind

To return into a equilibrium position (tollerance) from one of the extremes(hate) the pendulum should first bend to an opposite extreme. how many old masterpiece games series will we lose trying to rich it? Atleast do it better
    Total game vote 3

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, a lot has already been said about this game, much of it a clumsy, repetitive, awkward pounding of trite ideas, to the point where I have to tune it out just to keep my sanity. Which for me is a perfect metaphor for the narrative style of this game. I will preface this by saying, I really, really wanted to like this game. I gave it every chance, overlooking questionable decisions early on because I just wanted to really like it. I was totally on board for like the first 8 hours. I really was. But ultimately, whereas I didn't hate it, I didn't like it. It just .... was something I did for 25 hours. Long before it ended, I was done. Well, let's go with some positives, and yes, there are a lot; the world we inhabit is stunning. Amazing. How it looks, how it sounds, and how it feels to be in it. The AI is just awesome. Responsive, smart, and the Seraphites (although a pretty obvious rip off of the Walking Dead with the whistles and all) were a fun new wrinkle to deal with. The gameplay is fine, what I expected, and definitely serves the game well enough that I had no issues with it, though I won't say it broke any new ground, except maybe the prone movement was cool. Some of the new characters I liked a lot, and almost wish we could have seen more of Dina, Lev, and Jessie. The acting is top notch, even when the writing fails it. I'd even say the acting (and the animations that accompany it) saves parts of this game. Some of the cutscenes/flashbacks were very well done, and actually moved me. The final scene with Joel and Ellie makes me long for what the game could have been. But ultimately, this game is not about combat, or multi player, or any of that, this game was going to sink or swim on it's story. If you are going to take bold risks with storytelling, you have to craft it perfectly, be incredibly skilled as to how to tell a compelling story without letting me know what you're doing, without these "bold ideas" getting in the way of my involvement with the narrative. Instead, we end up completely trapped by it, with cheap manipulative pandering, and relentlessly pounded by an annoyingly repetitive, clumsy idea that SEE ABBY HAS A STORY TOO SHE ISN'T BAD SHE HAS A DOG GET IT SEE GET IT. Someone said it was like there was a neon sign in the back of each of Abby's scenes that said "PLEASE LIKE HER THE SCRIPT REALLY NEEDS YOU TO". I almost punched my screen when Yara says "oh Abby, you're such a good person". The repetitiveness and clumsiness insulted me, and ultimately bored me. It's not like it was a bad idea in concept; but it kinda felt like the writers had this idea, without the skills or craftsmanship to pull it off gracefully, and just went with cheap parlor tricks to manipulate us rather than a great story/character to involve us. I could see the themes they wanted to explore as a backdrop to tell a great story; with the right handling, it could work. But not AS the story. I mean, if you want to explore revenge, forgiveness and the cost of it all, OK, not that interesting, but OK, not awful either. But it just isn't sturdy enough to support the entire story on it's own, without anything else to prop it up, and eventually, the narrative buckles under that weight. It's almost like they wrote this as an exercise, something a 2nd year English class would do, "change the perspective of the story to make us sympathize with a previously hated character". This game would likely get a B- on that paper. They got so wrapped up in the theme, and the ideas, and the twists, and being all clever; they forget to tell a good story. I gotta admit, I was in shock when I found myself shouting at my screen, mocking the dialogue, Rocky Horror style, so relentless and clumsy was their attempt to make me "relate to Abby". But the real disaster there is; it took me out of the game. I was no longer in the game, but just watching it. I have to admit; that kind of deflated me a bit, because I really wanted to like this game a lot. All that said, in comparison to other games, it is not a bad game. At all. I applaud them taking the chance, and like I said, it looks and sounds amazing. It has it's positives. It gets a 7, because with they attempted, and how well they do parts of it, I have to grade it on that scale. But weirdly, sadly, and surprisingly, after years of anxiously waiting for this game, the one thing I did not think I would say after playing The Last of Us 2. I don't care if they make another one. And that kinda sucks. Expand

The gameplay, like the first game, is entertaining and the player can do basically whatever he wants. Do you want to shoot everybody? Do it. Do you want to stab them from the back and be quiet? Do it. Do you just want to escape from a group of enemies because you ran out of ammo? Do it. You can do what you want, the choice is yours.

    Story: 8/10
This is very personal. Right after the end of the game I sat in my room and I stared at my monitor for nearly an hour because the game left me empty. The story is completely different form the first game; there's no real enemy here (we're just used to see the story from Joel and Ellie's eyes), just a bunch of people trying to get their own justice. The ending is like a punch in the face, it's so wrong and right at the same time. My final score is 8-8,5/10, a very good game unfairly criticized but also not a masterpiece.

One of the best games of the generation.

Don't listen to the review bombers who have either never even played the game or go into the game due to the leaks. Please play and decide for yourself.

An amazing and breathtaking game! The gameplay, the visuals, the tiny details and the narrative, I was blown away by all of it!

Highly recommend the game, honestly. Don’t listen to the haters, who (judging by their comments) haven’t even played the game. I was a little worried about the story after hearing the first reviews, but can honestly say that they were so wrong! Which I’m

I was a little worried about the story after hearing the first reviews, but can honestly say that they were so wrong! Which I’m ecstatic about! The way the gameplay was carried about and decisions that had to be made, the overall emotion of the game carries you with it perfectly. I started out one section really not wanting to play in the way they were making me, but within the first 3 minutes I was immersed!

    100% recommend! A must play!

It is such a great game it has me on the edge of my seat and peaks my interest. I have not had a game keep me excited to see what is gonna happen next like this game. It is honestly better than any movies I’ve watched because the story telling is so good. Getting to see the game through Abby and Ellie allows you to connect with both characters and understand their development. The last of us 2-это неоспоримый шедевр!

The game makes improvements to the first one in every way and also makes you ride on a rollercoaster of emotion never experienced in a game before

Il y a des jeux qui font passer le temps et d autres qui expliquent le temps. The last of us 2 est un jeu exceptionnel et qui marquera à jamais le jeu vidéo et l'art en général, car oui ce jeu est une œuvre.

Great Gameplay and Story especially when you reach the second half of the game. But i think it is a little bit to long. It took me 30 hours to finish.

This game is near-perfect in my eyes. There are some very minor issues for me with the sheer volume of items, but it is a work of art that grits, hurts, and challenges you as a player; not many games do that and are also gargantuan in size.
Lots of the negative reviews here are from people who are either:
    1. not mature enough to handle a story/a story detail that wasn't what they wanted,

    2. Homophobes/mysogenysts/bigots (apparently in 2020 some gamers are still disturbed by playing a non-white-male/traditionally-beautiful-straight-woman.
If you are not a baby and willing to invest a few hours in a story that's complex, painful, and skips the fanfare to tell a great story, I promise you it is worth picking up and supporting.

The Last Of Us Part 2 is an extremely well written and directed game. It’s a game full of twists, turns, and a compelling story that tells how far someone can go on the path of revenge. It’s gameplay and core mechanics bring light to the already good mechanics in the first game. The game also has incredible performances from it’s voices, Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey being a standout. The Last Of Us Part 2 is an extremely well written and directed game. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
