    The first Last of Us is still one of my favorites, so this game was a 7 year long wait. Technically, the game is no different than other Naughty Dog games. Every gameplay mechanic is improved and built upon. I found stealth to be more enjoyable. Every encounter is different.     The first Last of Us is still one of my favorites, so this game was a 7 year long wait. Technically, the game is no different than other Naughty Dog games. Every gameplay mechanic is improved and built upon. I found stealth to be more enjoyable. Every encounter is different. It is a semi-open linear world, so there are multiple paths you can take where you might or might not encounter certain enemies. NPC (unlike previous games) have names and react when one of their fellow mates get killed. The game is gruesome and violent but that is to be expected given the current state of the world in the Last of Us. It's also amazing what Naughty dog has achieved graphically on a PS4 Pro where the game is running on 1440p@30fps.

    Unfortunately, on the other hand, the story has left me with a lot to desire. The first few hours feel rushed and questionable, however, I thought this would lead to an ending not possible without taking this direction. However, the ending has to be one of the worst game endings of a AAA game in recent memory. Character-wise it makes no sense. I don't want to post any spoilers so I will say this. "It can't all be for nothing" would describe part I. "It was all for nothing" would describe part II.    … Expand

    Despite all the bad ratings, I honestly think this is the best game that Naughty Dog has ever released (Besides Uncharted 4 which still my favorite).

    Naughty Dog has become the market standard in-terms of Story-driven game which in my opinion, they never fail to deliver a great narrative to all of us players. Most of the players of course disappointed in the decision to get rid of Joel in the 1st Q of the game but I do completely understand which makes me think that this game is incredible that you are able to make players attached to Joel so much that they hate Naughty Dog because of they decide to kill Joel in this game.

    It's a complete shock to The Last of Us fans that they probably couldn't take it anymore but I think its the best way to make a more impactful and meaningful story as The Last of Us Part II is all about we live as Ellie not as Joel. So, How to pass the baton from Joel to Ellie? You know the answer as I think Its wonderfully written and executed, yet brutal. It's a perfect way to ignite ourselves to be invested in Ellie. Although, I gonna say I'm more invested in Abby arc then Ellie because it's more dynamic and meaningful which some of you might give a bad review due to this Abby arc.

    There's also a very deep message in this game which all about revenge. When you lost someone and you took the path of revenge, you'll end up losing more. Both Ellie and Abby ending up losing all they had before (people they love and place that they can call home).

    I also would like to appreciate Naughty Dog as they didn't play safe at all and they break all people expectation that all kinds of story will have a "Hollywood Ending".

    I hope this bomb review didn't affect Naughty Dog to much to be creative and different from another game studio. Looking forward to see another masterpiece from you, Naughty Dog as currently nobody can beat you in-terms of Story or Narrative.    … Expand

Decided to try it out, even after all that backlash this game received, my review is from playing it on my PS5, also a disclaimer, I never played the first game because of economy issues of mine that I couldn't afford a PS4 console till 2018, but saw the entire gameplay/story cutscenes through YouTube and I LOVED the story.

    So on the actual game now, the game when it comes to graphics, music, visuals, textures, sound, gameplay control, and with the PS5 update to up the frame to 60, this was a top tier development, as for the story the way they introduced Abby and how early Joel died in this game was a letdown for me, I don't mind the story at all, but the execution of the story is what made me not give a damn about playing as Abby, so I set it at the lowest difficulty just for her so I can speedrun her story.

    But overall despite Abby's story, I enjoyed this game, but if they don't come up with new ideas in terms of gameplay because it's the same as part 1 I heard, then I might not bother with part 3, if they make one.    … Expand

    Es un juego increíble, no entiendo las críticas negativas, he jugado el primero justo antes de darle a este y es muy continuista, respecto a lo de Ellie, es bastante predecible si jugaron el dlc Left Behind. La jugabilidad y el nivel de detalles de naughty dog es increíble. Para mí es el juego del año sin duda.

    In the end, the true value of a game is the experience you live playing it, and this one was a bad visit to the dentist.     My first playthrough was on Grounded mode and it was an incredibly stressful experience. The violence is visceral and emotionally draining, in a word its "grisly".     It is AI at its pinnacle, the stealth mechanics are the best I have ever seen and I've played a lot of stealth games over the years.
    The game does get a bit repetitive and every so often I get the 'oh, here we go again' feeling; stealthing an area of humans then progressing to the next section and having to deal with the infected, but its just so good and rewarding it really doesn't matter.
    The narrative is, sadly, your typical revenge story shown from two sides of the same coin, but it really, really well done and yes I empathised with both lead characters and ended up really liking the new lead.
    There are a number of reasons why this is not a 10/10. First, its not as good as the original, second it wasn't necessary, third, it runs far, far too long, the difficulty spikes at certain points are an example of poor QA. Don't get me wrong, I asked for it on Grounded but running round in circles trying to escape 2 shamblers, a couple of clickers, some runners and whatever else they threw at me just wasn't my idea of a good time.
    Now, the social commentary.
    Ellie's reveal was expected but the bombshell dropped in the 3rd act is box ticking at its finest. Addressing this... situation, in a video game, brings nothing to the story and doesn't enhance the game at all.
    I personally believe Naughty Dog wanted to be "industry leaders" by overtly addressing this theme in, what was inevitably going to become one of the biggest games of the decade. It was a marketing ploy, nothing more.
    Its as if in order to justify the horrific and gratuitous violence throughout the game, which effectively is a "Murder-sim" (You remember Manhunt don't you?) the impact of the violence would be lessened, or glossed over by shining a light on this particular societal phenomenon.    … Expand

The graphics, the technology and the storytelling are simply terrific. I just finished this game, and oh boy, I don't really care about what dumb people think, this is a masterpiece, not a game about "revenge is bad duh" but a game tha shows you that everyone in the world has a diferent pov and nobody is wrong, for me, really the only mediocre part is the gameplay that didn't change basically nothing from the first one, but it still is good, I rarelly found bugs, and when I did it was because I was really searching for it, Joel's death at the start of the game was harsh, but in this world, no one is special, and no one should expect to be let alone after doing what joel did, some parts yes have a strange writing, but after thinking, it all makes sense, abby isn't the villain and neither ellie, joel wasn't the villain and neither the fireflies, the last of us world is gray and has infinites tones, this is what makes this game so amazing, the first game is about love, this is about hate, both show you not that love is good hate is bad, but that everything is conected, love and hate are two sides of the same coin, never a game did what tlou2 did to me, the last two hour were just pain whitout end, people really should give this game a second chance to see that this isn't at all a less than 5/10 game… Expand

    The low key sequel to Manhunt1/2 we didn’t ask for, 5/10 stars. Gameplay did not match story being told in a mindful way. I do not recommend it to fans of the first game.

    Was really looking forward to this & finally ended up playing it. Great story, breathtaking atmosphere & graphics especially for a PS4 and compared to other games (Though, it was pretty obvious it was going to look good considering the studio that made it). It was pretty cool to experience the POV of someone you initially kind of hate. “Kind of” lol, nuff said cause I’m bad at this reviewWas really looking forward to this & finally ended up playing it.     I loved the game! To me, the uncommon structure of the game and its characters only adds to the overall narrative and ideas. At the end of the game, I felt deeply empathetic for everyone and I felt that I have a lot to think about.

They made significant decisions on improving gameplay. The story is the problem. It's too long and unfulfilling. It is just murder, murder, murder, murder a pregnant woman, murder a dog, murder whole families. No rhyme or reason that pushes the story in any significant direction.     Gameplay is fun although a bit repetitive after a while, the jumpscares get predictable and the game keeps using the same formula. Shootouts are fun. Overall its too long. Graphics are nice. The story is just horrible... characters seem off and artificial, plot seems like a teenager wrote it,

    Amazing game!
    The story is great, with unpredictable twists and I felt real attachment to the characters. Graphics are great and I did not experience any bugs. This has to be the best sequel to any game I've played.

    People that gives it a poor rating either did not play it or expected a very specific ending. It's childish to rate something poorly because it did not end how you expected it to.

Story is awesome. characters is so good, ı dont like some characters but is so good. every characters has a mimc, thanks to this ı watch cutscene like a movie. gameplay sometimes repeat but ıt is entertaining. you can change the gameplay with bombs, or you can sneak also. perfect game by noughty dog

    I loved The Last of Us 1. And I knew there was a lot of commotion & controversy about part 2. I bought it to find out what that was all about. Now I know. And I deeply regret that I wanted to know...

    The game looks great, with lots of big locations. That is a big plus. But for me it pretty much ends there. There is a lot I didn't like: - The vibe of part 2 is totally different from    I loved The Last of Us 1. And I knew there was a lot of commotion & controversy about part 2. I bought it to find out what that was all about. Now I know. And I deeply regret that I wanted to know...

    The game looks great, with lots of big locations. That is a big plus. But for me it pretty much ends there.

    There is a lot I didn't like:
    - The vibe of part 2 is totally different from part 1, and not in a positive way;
    - The story goes on for way, waaaaaaaaay too long. Really. They should have at least cut 1/3 of it. And this is very much possible, as there are quite a lot of things you can cut without affecting the main storyline in any real way (you may lose a bit of 'nuance', but nothing that can't be missed);
    - The gameplay is far too repetitive (see also my previous point!). Especially when the story goes for the 'double down' halfway through (if you've played, you know what I mean);
    - The difficulty setting is totally off. I finished Part 1 on its default difficulty, and it was challenging, but fine and doable. I started Part 2 on "moderate", then went down to "easy" because of a number of very frustrating encounters & to speed up the game. And the last half I played on the lowest difficulty, and still there were encounters that were just too hard for that setting. And I am not an hardcore gamer, but at the very least an average gamer;
    - This game has the same problem that the "Uncharted" games have for me (also from ND): if there are fighting parts in the game, make the fighting mechanics good. The mechanics in Part 2 feel clunky and frustrating. I understand that the main character is not a trained soldier, but this really did not play pleasantly at all;
    - The story has the subtelty of a sledehammer. The writers really hammer their story points home, and are very in your face about what you should feel about what happens;
    - The ending was just complete and utter **** It dragged on for far too long, and it totally did not feel like fitting for a "The Last of Us" game. At least not if you know Part 1;    … Expand

    Its insane how ND made a perfect game even better in part 2. I actually like the story a lot more in part 2. I feel like Joel needed to die, especially early, for the story to progress and for Ellie to grow as a character. The whole revenge plot is both complex and compelling. Also all of the flashbacks of Joel and Ellie are that much more tender because he died. Also this game does anIts insane how ND made a perfect game even better in part 2. "Every thief is a hero on their own story". Keep this quote in mind and you'll enjoy it properly. TOP 5 GAMES OF ALL TIME!

    Just finished playing it. What an intelligent and intriguing ending... What a feat of writing such complex and authentic characters and what a staging. I've never experienced anything like that. And what a great idea to convey both sides of the story so intensely and to create this fascinating dichotomy in me. An absolute masterpiece for me.

When I finished, I didn't know if I liked it or not—a mixed feeling. I talked with two first, and they had a distinguished opinion. one hated the story, and the other loved it. I look for more opinions on the reviews on Metacritic, youtube videos to have more substantial base arguments. I look for all the reviews, and I often agree more with people who didn't like the game than people who loved it.
    The gameplay was magnificent. The quality that naughty dog has presented and has us used to. I had fun killing zombies and other enemies, 10/10—especially the fight against rat king.
    But the story wasn't that pleasant to watch. The way they decided to tell was a complete mess. I was uncomfortable playing with Abby and fighting Ellie, and the game was forcing me to do that. The same went when Ellie was almost killing Abby.
    Also, I don't condemn the decision of killing Joe; for me was a risky move, and the naughty dog had the guts to take it. If the story were rewritten, I would understand if Joe dies at the end. What I condemn and don't understand is the way that he died. It looks forced and out of character for Joe to trust random people like that. If naughty dog forced a little more, they would **** themself.
    One last thing, just me or Isaac was a waste of character?    … Expand

    This game for me was incredible! The gameplay was engaging and the story is one of my favorites. It is a real rollercoaster of emotions. I recommend playing with minimal info going in and just enjoying the game for what it is. Overall one of my favorite recent gaming experiences.

In real life, no one is entirely evil, and no one is entirely good. Everyone has their own motivation for why they are acting the way that they are.

    What i love about this game is that every character acts in a way that they think is justified. In doing so, conflict is created and characters in different groups all begin to hate each other. The game does a fantastic job of showing how even though we humans may split ourselves into different tribes and groups, fundamentally what we all want is the same. The game’s message is that violence is never the way to resolve conflict, as no one ever wins when violence is involved. Overall i would highly recommend you play this game. It had a profound impact on me, and it very likely will have a profound impact on you too. Don’t let the bad reviews discourage you. Allow yourself to come to your own conclusion about this incredible game.

    ***THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF MY SPOILER REVIEW!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!***

    At the end of the first last of us game, Joel made an extremely difficult and consequential decision. He decided to save Ellie, and as a result prevented the creation of a vaccine and caused the deaths of millions of people around the world and possibly doomed humanity to extinction. This act was incredibly selfish and could easily be interpreted as evil.

    This game deals with the consequences of that decision. It explores the paths of two characters, Ellie and Abby, characters who were on different sides of Joel’s decision. Joel kills Abby’s father, who was trying to create a vaccine that would save humanity. This is something that Abby cannot forgive him for, and so she seeks revenge and murders him. From Abby’s perspective, Joel is the villain and she is entirely justified in her decision to kill him.

    Ellie obviously loves Joel, as he saved her life. In response to his murder, she views Abby as the villain, and seeks revenge on her and her crew. She travels to Seattle and ruthlessly murders all of Abby’s friends in her pursuit of justice. She becomes increasingly deranged throughout her campaign, and you as the player are forced to do some incredibly morally reprehensible things as her. I found this to be incredibly thought provoking, as it demonstrates how one violent act begets another, how the cycle of violence is continuous and how it is very difficult to break.

    For the second half of the game, you are forced to play as Abby. She realises that killing Joel hasn’t actually made her feel any better about the loss of her father. She realises that violence will not make her feel better, and she refuses to join the WLF’s attack on the seraphites. She instead decides to save the lives of two seraphite kids who have been shunned by their community. This segment of the game shows how all humans, regardless of tribe (WLF or seraphite), are fundamentally all the same. The war between the WLF and Seraphites at the end of Abby’s journey shows that no one wins in war, and everyone loses. It demonstrates that violence is never the way to resolve disputes.

    Right at the end of the game, when Ellie confronts Abby, she realises that killing Abby won’t bring Joel back, and that Abby’s motivations are just as valid as hers. She spares Abby, and the game ends.

    While i understand much of the criticism directed at this story, and i recognise that it isn’t for everyone, i had an absolutely incredible experience playing this game. At its core, the game teaches us that violence is never the correct way to handle a situation. It does this by exposing the player to some of the most horrific violence imaginable, to demonstrate the severe consequences that it can have. If you have made it this far into my review, i just want to say thank you. I don’t normally write reviews for games, but this one stuck with me for a while after i finished playing it, and i had to get this off my chest. Y logo hablemos claro de la “diversidad”, esta muy bien salirse del clasico hombre blanco que mata a todos. Pero tampoco hay que discriminarlo al punto de que no son mas que sacrificios. Ahora en TODOS lados mandan mujeres, a perdona y un tio de color. los blanquitos tipo Joel, que no es un tio chungo ni nah e, o owen, no son mas que carne de cañon, hasta jese. Y tommy no es mas que el perro de maria al igual que owen el de abby. Y asi esta el tema. Lo jugue pensando que iban a meter a un personaje femenino con el que t encariñarias y t meterias en su piel como tia dura, un mundo bien representado sin tanto puto calzador. Un fiasco progre.     Excelente juego, una vez que lo terminas te das cuenta de la joya que es, mucha gente se ofendió por un trailer y puntuó mal sin haberlo jugado antes…

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
