This is a game you may not like but that necessarily doesn't mean that the game is not good. However, what is definitely bad are Naughty Dog's and Sony's cheap and deceptive pre-release marketing tactics intended to deceive players into thinking that they would be playing the game as their favourite characters.

The only good things about the game are its graphics, gameplay (more or less), and the amount of diversity this game has which is definitely a good thing.

One of the most powerful games I´ve ever played.
This is game looks amazing. The gameplay is similar to the first one, and only upgraded in some parts. But that´s good, because I liked the gameplay in the first part a lot. The score and sound-design are on point. And the story....yeah I understand that people could not like it. But I think most of the people forget that this game is still a survival horror game. That something happens in the beginning, was hard for me to understand. But this moment showed me that this game has no plot armor. And this was very refreshing, cause no one was safe the whole further story. The only thing is that the side characters and one other important character, I couldn´t get very invested in. And that´s why for me part 2 could also be 2-3 hours shorter. But all this criticism is still on a very high level.
Naughty Dog created a very special game that is different and on a high quality budged.
For me one of the best games on this gen. Cause weeks after I´ve played it, I must still think about it, and this is something that not many games did with me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had much to say at around the 3 hour mark of the game, but I refuse to review a game unless I have completed at least a single play through. The game is nearly 40+ hours, depending on if you, like me, like to search every nook and cranny. I finally completed the game and am left with many, many swirling thoughts. First off, I must applaud the gameplay, game mechanics, graphics, environment, music, mo-cap animations, voice acting; all of these are fantastic. The first thing that amazed me was stepping into a pool of blood and walking into the snow - bloody footprints! The details are much appreciated, like Ellie putting on her hood when it rains. Oh, and the effort they put in to simulate the guitar chords and notes by strumming/picking the touchpad? Genius! But let’s get back to the 3 hour mark. It’s here where we realize, whether we like it or not, video game stories and narratives have really evolved in the past decade. No longer are our protagonists invincible. The way the story is told here has intent to mislead us in many ways, but also weaves a path for us to understand things by showing us tidbits of information in a certain order, which is not chronological. We are filled with anger at first, just like in reality where we deal with emotions. As we play through Ellie’s story, we destroy everything in our path for vengeance. Initial emotions justify all our actions. The narrative changes perspectives midway through the game to show you Abby. Her story is shown to you through her eyes and (depending on the audience, you, of course, but hopefully M for Mature, right?) you can’t help but start to realize that she’s not the person you thought she was. In fact, Abby is getting revenge for her own father’s death. We learn that she’s a normal girl with a good heart and even she soon realizes that Isaac and the WLF’s goals are just insane. We’re playing with dogs in her storyline instead of shooting them. Then the game brings us to the supposed finale of Ellie and Abby’s encounter - before Abby is able to succumb to spiraling down the toxic path of anger and vengeance, Lev is able to utter just her name and she stops. It is here that Abby redeems herself. Lev can be seen as Abby’s light and support. Ellie, on the other hand, unfortunately does not have that. After seeing all the cutscenes, we learn that Ellie was about to repair her and Joel’s relationship, but the path to that forgiveness was stripped from her the following day. With Joel gone, Ellie’s only link to her purpose in life is also extinguished. Blaming Joel for taking her meaning of life away when he decided that she gets to live has made her so angry she bursts out that she’ll never forgive him. And now the chance is gone. So we learn that the anger not only stemmed from vengeance, but also at herself, for not being able to forgive Joel when she had the chance. In the true ending, Ellie finally lets go of that anger when she takes her hands off Abby. She envisions an image of Joel - this is the same Joel in the flashback we soon see, when she starts to make amends with him. It’s here when we believe that she truly forgives him for his decision, thus allowing her to let go of her anger. In the final depressing scene at the farmhouse, you witness everything that Ellie has lost during her path of vengeance; Jesse(did no one grieve him?) Tommy’s relationship, Dina, JJ, Jackson, her 2 fingers. And finally, because of her loss of fingers, is unable to play Joel’s song, resulting in the loss of the final connection to him. She leaves everything behind, including the guitar she can no longer play. She let’s go of all that is related to her past and walks into the sunset. Will we see her again in Part 3? As depressing as the ending is (it’s an apocalypse!), the IP has taken a dark turn. Part 1 was focused on Hope. Perhaps Part 3 will be about a new identity, for both Ellie and Abby. After the credits, the main title screen turns from dark gloom to a sunny beach. It hints at Abby and Lev making it to their destination to seek the Fireflies. Overall, the narrative is definitely all over the place (similar to this review?), but it was intentionally told the way it is to set you in the path of how the game wanted you to feel in the first place. Our anger was with Ellie in the first half of the game. True anger. That could have only been possible, to share such anger with Ellie, is for her (and us) to lose someone we loved for years. The story, unlike many other games, reflects upon reality, where the fact is that we can lose someone at a moment’s notice, unable to do anything about it, and sometimes is, unfortunately, a grim and undignified death. I wonder how the game would have played if we were to see everything in chronological order? We might not have the same experience. Kudos for many Asians in game, whether good or bad. Very unsettled with what happens to Abby. Cutscene ambushes are the worst. Seriously. Expand

Naugty Dog Expand

Now I got to play it and it was the most awful story I have ever played. Straight from intro to ending. Yep I gave it afair shot. And it was worthless. Anthem was better.

To those of you who are fans of the first game, keep an open mind and you should enjoy this one as well. There are several people claiming that there are giant plot holes in the game, and from the ones that I have read most of these "plot holes" come from characters' decisions. Most of these character decisions are ones that stem from character growth and empathy. You can trace every questionable decision made by the characters to experiences along the way, questions they've had, people that they have interacted with that have changed their perspective. This game is about confronting challenges, and questioning opinions you may have had before, and I think a lot of people weren't happy with that. It makes YOU question how you feel about the situations in the game, the same way the characters have to question how they feel.

As for the "political agenda," this game really doesn't shove anything down your throat. While there may be some characters in the game that are different, that's all they are: different. The only way it's going to bother you is if the idea itself bothers you. They have a backstory and then that's where that "agenda," ends. I understand why people get upset with politics invading their media but if that's what people think this is, then they are just being too sensitive.

So if you're reading this, wondering if the game is good or not, wondering if you should try it or not, I would say block out the noise, have an open mind to things not going how you'd expect, and enjoy a really well written experience.

The gameplay, while very similar to the original, is still extremely good. Turning out the lights, playing this in 4K on a big screen with surround sound, you will get lost in the game. You will experience fear, dread, sorrow, relief, and a myriad of other emotions. Anything that can make me feel things that this game does as effectively as it does is clearly doing something right. I recommend this wholeheartedly, with one reservation - if you are open-world are bust, you might feel hamstrung. This game is not structured that way. It's not meant to let you tell your own story like Mass Effect, and it's not meant to let you go anywhere you want like GTA or Red Dead. But that is what makes it so good at what it does. Expand

Still it was the best experience for me that this series has ever give. It's like you watch movie, you can related with the content whoever you are, wherever you from and there're nothing wrong with that.
I understand people despite the concept that they thought they are able to "choose" that's why i gave it 9.5 since you can't choose anything. We just an observer of this story, and also nothing with that because it's developer choices. I don't feel like i was force to do anything since i just pursue this game as it meant to be as for entertainment. But i don't find the story is disappointing for me. I already try my 2nd play through too and each time progress i reach i found more and more small details i have missed. And if you can compile those details together, you can say this game is really well done like piece of craftsmanship works. The expression, body physical reaction, realistic of light / sound and visual. I can say it here out loud that people who gave 0, never play game or they are bias / troll. If you gonna give it fairly you must take it as a whole

Cons - the pacing of the game seems off, feels like it drags for a bit. In my opinion, some of the deaths weren’t impactful. For example, after Abby killed Jesse, it’s like all the characters forgot he even existed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Review regarding the story: it was a great story, shows that death does come out of nowhere, with no warning and not everyone gets a superhero death like Iron Man or gets to live happily ever after like captain America. Once you truly understand the story you become more understanding of all the characters. No one is a hero, everyone is a villain in someone else's story. We are all used to happily ever after and that is what we expected in this but in the first game Sarah died, Tess died, Marlene died, Riley died and there was no cure. The story has always been dark and death in an apocalypse is common. Doesn't mean that it won't hurt but you can't really prepare because it is out of nowhere. Expand

It improves on the first game in every conceivable way. The graphics are excellent and the gameplay has been finely tuned. It’s the little touches that really make it special; like seeing weapons actually being modified at the workbenches. The music was perfectly chosen and provides an emotional touchstone throughout the narrative. I didn’t know that it was possible to make Take on Me sound melancholy, but Ashley Johnson managed it beautifully. I would also strongly encourage people to re-listen to Future Days (the Ellie/Joel song) again after they’ve finished the game because it takes on a richer significance. Where the game really shines though is in its story and the character development. We see a softer, more vulnerable side of Joel and a harder, vengeful Ellie that built on what was set up in the first game. This isn’t a game that panders. If anything, it is asking fans to trust it as it leads us on an emotional roller coaster. I never felt like my trust was misplaced. Every scene struck an emotional chord and even though I desperately wanted different outcomes for some of the characters, the game’s events fit the tone and theme that they were going for and had an internal consistency that I could accept. I ended the game bereft and emotionally drained which, while not the usual gaming experience, did illustrate how video games can be a place to grapple with difficult and even uncomfortable emotions.

TLDR: not only is this the best game I’ve played all year; it is the best game I’ve ever played.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This second title is really amazing surprise naughty dog prepared for us. I'd risk to say that is the most incredible narrative I've ever seen in games, many important topics appear in this game- even though the "basic line" is pretty simple: a revenge story. The choice by two protagonists- one the villain of the other, both heroes of their own story, is an absolute revolution in games narratives. Graphics at their best in this game, so resuming:
    Graphics: 10/10
    Characters development: 10/10
    Narrative: 10/10
    Soundtrack: 10/10
Gameplay: 9/10 - It could get a bit repetitive

For me this is easily the game of the decade- for sure deserves the GOTY. An only experience everyone should try!
Many "Joel's widows" are complaining about the game, but it just tell us about themselves- most of them really incapable of accepting new experiences and thing more seriously about the whole game experience, this game is not for those who can't have empathy.

They killed my favorite character in history, and that’s not the worst part. Joel was just simply not Joel. They just made him stupid. Would TLOU Joel be so kind when he first met a group of strangers? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game isn’t about revenge. It isn’t about hate. And it sure as hell is not the story we as fans wanted told but instead is the story that needed to be told.

The last of us part two is about love. The type of love that consumes you and blinds you, you nearly lose yourself in it. Just like saving Ellie was Joel’s redemption in part one, that single momentous act that brings him back from the brink... going after Joel’s killer is Ellie’s undoing. You see her go through this journey backwards as she slowly becomes the very monster she’s trying to kill.

On the flip side, you have Abby. Playing as Ellie fills you with rage towards this woman, you want nothing more than to make her pay. Playing as Abby, on the other hand... ND does something tremendous here, something absolutely insane, and you know what? It works. Walking a mile in Abby’s shoes (literally) makes you understand her motivations, playing as Abby four years ago, seeing how young and happy and innocent she is (sound familiar?) with her dad makes you yearn for the life you know Ellie and Joel could have had. This whole two sides of the same coin is illustrated so beautifully you just know, in some other timeline Abby and Ellie could have been friends.

You walk a path with Abby where she questions all of her motives, all of her loyalties, to save these two kids from enemy tribes. The parallels between Abby/Lev and Joel/Ellie are unmistakable and completely intentional.

There’s so much more I could say about this but you need to experience it for yourself to truly understand the depth and thought and absolute consideration that was put into every single moment of this game.

This wasn’t the story I wanted, not but a mile, but it was the story that needed to be told. If all you took from this story is a generic “revenge is bad” or you’re left feeling a festering pain because you *didn’t* get revenge then you.... completely missed the point of the first game which lays the groundwork for part two. After all, didn’t Joel also have one single objective throughout all of part one only to not go through with it at the last minute?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved The Last of Us and when I heard about a part 2, I was extremely excited. I watched all of the trailers, followed all of the news, and counted down the time until it would finally come out. I pre-ordered the game and started it up the minute it was made available to me. After playing for about an hour and a half, I was shocked and in love with the story. The next day, I saw all of these reviews saying it was an awful game and a "SJW" propaganda game. I wanted to keep a clear mind before I read/saw any analysis. I just finished the game yesterday and I would say that it was an odd experience. The story was done really well if you have the capacity to step outside of your own perspective. The fact that Abby and Ellie are the primary characters seemed an odd choice, until the story comes back together. Abby killed Joel, because Joel killed Abby's father (the doctor from the first game), and now Ellie wants to kill Abby because she killed her father figure. It is easy for us to pretend a boss/enemy is a worthless character, but when we know their stories, their actions, their friends, their culture, it becomes much more personal. I'm still digesting the ending of the game, which I initially thought was really bad (I still sway in that direction) but I'm wondering if a better understanding may come. People have complained about an LGBTQ+ agenda but they quickly forgot that Ellie was gay in the first game (so it makes sense that she is with Dina) or the transgender character (who doesn't appear until the tail end of the game and is very briefly discussed). It is unfortunate that telling a story equates to an agenda for some people.

    Story - 7-8/10

The gameplay was essentially the same as the first game but added some additional features which helped improve the experience (I loved the prone mechanic), and the ability for the dogs to track you was a great idea but seldom saw its vision in gameplay. Overall, the improvements outweigh the repetitive aspects.

    Gameplay - 5-6/10

Graphics were incredible, of course 9/10

    Overall, 8/10

The first game was clearly superior to this game, not that it means the Last of Us part II is a bad game. Game series evolve and have to build off of previous formulas, when the first game of your series is a solid 10/10, it makes the job to blow the minds of your fans extremely hard.

The game is brave enough to confront the elephant in the room: Joel deserved to pay for his selfish act at the end of the first game. And boy does he pay! They have also populated this world with a far more interesting cast of characters: Abby, Dina, Lev and Mel are considerably more engaging and rounded than any of the side characters from part one. Jesse and Manny are slightly under-served, reduced to mere cyphers who are present only to support the female leads. But considering how often this has been the reverse over the years, we can forgive ND for this minor slight.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All right, folks, I'm not saying that this is the worst game ever just because of the death of Joel or because of Ellie transformed into a stupid selfish a**ole character, but I made an account here just to say that this game is literary one of the most disappointing games in the history of mankind because the events in the plot pop up out of nowhere and happen so randomly without any preparation and they make no sense. Repeat after me, they make no sense. Any moron can write a story that the plot happens as they dream without reasonable facts. The thing that makes a story legendary is that the writer is so talented that gives you logical reasons for any event they show, otherwise anyone, literary anyone can write a story. The true art is to find the acceptable reasons for what goes on in the story to make it feel real. On the other hand, the art is not just wishes of a psychopath mentally ill person like Neil Druckmann who just wants to convey his personal thought about life to the audience by using a masterpiece as his microphone, no matter how the first game was, no matter what actual theory the first game had, and no matter how the characters of the first game were developed and defined. As you see, he is using games to express his thoughts and ideologies about life; he doesn't care about the first game. He just sees it as a tool. That's what he did with the trailer. They showed us Joel in the trailer, they used Joel to hype us, to motivate us to buy the game, but in the actual game, Joel has no effective part in the game and dies at the very beginning as a stupid careless no experienced person.
So, I'm saying this aloud: I hope Naughty Dog removes Neil Druckmann from the company, otherwise, that's the company's end of awesomeness.

    GRAFICOS:

    HISTORIA:

Its at worst an in depth look at the human condition of dealing with grief loss and revenge. Incredible game, you can feel every emotion, the angrr, the tension, the joy, the sadness, grief, loss, everything through well writen characters, with personality, motivations, got me chills many times. A truly unique experience, has powerful meanings and really touches your emotions. A graphically beautiful game with superbly cinematic gameplay. Naughty Dog has made a masterpiece yet again.

THIS IS AN AMAZING GAME. I would have scored it 9 or 9.5, but I think we need to offset the people rating it super low, that is just ridiculous. Play it and feel it for yourself! Super fun, super high quality everything (graphics, gameplay, in-game acting, story). I've never had any piece of media emotionally drain and uplift me as much as TLOU2 did. I sat through the whole credits staring blankly at the screen as I had not a clue what to do with myself afterward in the best way possible. It's been on my mind ever since.

Absolute garbage, a waste of money and terrible writing. This is by far the worst way naughty dog could have made a sequel to the fantastic first story. It’s a shame that only critic reviews are displayed by self-righteous social justice warriors who will defend this game at every chance just to ostracize others for being sexist, as if it had anything to do with having an opinion on thisAbsolute garbage, a waste of money and terrible writing. I enjoyed this new dynamic of interchanging protagonist, obviously, the narrative of the store can be a mess. But none the less I did enjoy the game :D

I loved mostly everything, I just wished you would of let us play along as Elie first and at the end unlocking Abby's story. It was annoying how the story was cut at times when I was exited about what was about to happen.

An amazing story that challenges you to view what other people are going through, in this traumatic world.

I loved the gameplay and mechanics of the game. The story is really good but its main issue is to be forced to play with a character that you despise and even you have to play her against Ellie.
Since I have no complaints on the gameplay at all, My review is focused on the things I didn’t like. However, I still consider it a great game.
It gets tiring to restart the three-day journey now

It gets tiring to restart the three-day journey now with a despicable character. It was not necessary to show everything of Abby’s life as they even copied lots of models at base that ruins immersion. This part should have been shortened to show us only her relationship with the surgeon killed by Joel, as relatable character development couldn’t have been conveyed to the player.

I don’t consider it a bad ending. Note that the main objective of the first part was to deliver Ellie to the Fireflies to create a vaccine and such objective wasn’t completed. Joel travels half of the country and at the very end, he decides just go home.

The real problem was to be forced to play as Abby, it felt like measure to emphasize with her (but there is absolutely no way you could do that after seeing her killing Joel) and becomes desperate to the point to save awesome and memorable parts (such as the Seraphite island and Ray King boss fight) to her. It got disgusting when you are prompted to attack Ellie at the theatre (meaning game over if you let Ellie win

I think most people didn’t give this game a chance to tell its story after Joel’s death,Trust me even I was Mad when joel died but this universe is a dark world and everyone is just trying to survive. For me this deserves game of the year as i see no other game which made feel this way it was a roller coaster of emotions , The story telling of this game was a very bold move they could have gone the easy way out and made it a happy ending but naughty dog always does the unthinkable which is question ourselves xD. The first game ending made us have alot of questions and soo does the second part as well. Dont know if i really want a third part but in naughty dog i trust!

I really enjoyed the experience this game brought me. It made me feel some very complex emotions that were new to me. I could barely put it down after I started, and it took me 30 hours to complete. I’m seeing criticism that the message is just “revenge is bad” which is an oversimplification meant to disparage the game as a whole. To me, it’s a game about forgiveness, and how impossible it may seem for the most unforgivable actions, but how necessary it to try in order to move on in life. Without forgiveness, which can come in different forms, we can never progress. Maybe people feel that Naughty Dog did them wrong with the choices made this game... and maybe they don’t think they can ever forgive ND. But hopefully, someday, they’d like to try. Expand

Made an account just to give this game a 10/10. Finished it today after an emotionally draining 30 hours. Naughty Dog told an incredible story which could only be accomplished through the medium of interactive media. Highly recommend you just give this game a shot.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
