Story - Despite what people are saying this is not a revenge story. It has some aspects of a revenge story line, but to call it that is simplistic at best. Ellie's part of this game is occurs mainly because of the scene between her and Joel on the porch after the party. This scene is her motivation more than Abby killing Joel. I think the Abby killing Joel in that manner was more for the player, and making the player want revenge. Ellie also has a happy ending despite what you might think. In the last scene at the farm she shows no emotion to the farm being empty because she knew it was. Quite a bit of time had passed between her last fight with Abby and that scene and she is fully healed an appears to be wearing the bracelet Dina gave her. She is actually coming from Jackson in that scene and has already made up with Dina by that point.
Joel and Tommy trusting the WLF group was not bad writing. Four years had passed between the first game and this one. They had been spending much of that time bringing people into the community. They had no reason to mistrust a group of kids that are not much older than Ellie.
Abby's story was mostly about the fact that killing Joel did not bring her peace or closure. Her story was much the same as Joel's story from part 1. Yes you can call this lazy writing, but the writers were trying to make us feel some empathy for her.
Graphics - Yeah...I think pretty much everyone agrees this is the best looking game on the PS4.
New Characters - All the new characters were great. Some the of WLFs were a little one dimensional, but they really seemed to flesh out Dina and Jesse, and of course Abby.
Character Development - Both main characters, Ellie and Abby, had great character development. I don't feel like ND undid anything from the first game in terms of Ellie's character. I do not believe they destroyed Joel's character or made him the villain. Ellie's development is really hard to get until the scene on the porch and it was brilliant for ND to put that scene near the end of the game.

    Neutral
Game play - The game play was pretty similar to part 1 with some added mechanics. i put it in neutral because there was nothing really groundbreaking here. I did like the fact they found a way to have you play the guitar with a controller though.

    Problematic
Story Structure -The structure of the story was a little problematic because there were flashbacks and the same story told from two different viewpoints. You can die in some of the flashbacks. For example when you go off as Ellie with Joel to find guitar strings you can die. Having Abby's 3 days come after Ellie's 3 days has a similar issue where you can die as Abby during this time even though you know she ends up at the theater. There could also be an issue with the way Lev gets up onto the balcony of the theater as Ellie could technically leave a bomb trap at the top of that ladder. I don't know if that changes anything if you do this, but either way if it's ignored there is an issue and if Lev gets blown up there is an issue. I guess Lev could see it and detonate it without getting hurt. It may have better to play day 1 as Ellie then day 1 and Abby and so forth. I do not believe playing Abby's part first would have been the correct way to go though.

Tommy - I don't really like where Tommy ended in this. It would have been nice to see if he was able to move on or not.

Abby killing Joel - I put this in the problematic because I think ND may have underestimated how much people would hate her for killing Joel especially the way it was done. This seemed to leave a lot of people in the mindset that they could never like or feel empathy for her. I don't know if this was a mistake, but since the second half of the game is set up to try and make you feel empathy for her I have to believe ND believed that people would despite her killing Joel, and that just didn't happen for some people because they their mind was just made up to hate her no matter what for killing Joel. Since the game is set up this way it seems to me ND did make a mistake here in not recognizing just how beloved Joel is. Of course they have stated the game would be divisive, but to me the 2nd half of the game contradicts that as they obviously were trying to get the player to sympathize with Abby.

i gave the game 10/10 though because despite not being perfect it is still masterpiece. The story really sticks with you and I liked playing as Abby and I liked the choices they made on the characters and while I think the story would work better if it was structured differently it doesn't take away from the fact that the story was brilliant.

Whether or not you like how the events play out in The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog sticks to their guns. They tell an important and impactful narrative through character dialogue, world design, and gameplay. It marries each aspect of the game together, aspects, that set the bar for the games industry. The animations of each character, every drop of rain, shard of glass, pustule of an infected, feels meticulously hand-crafted. The visuals are truly mind boggling as to how humans were able to achieve this in a video game. It's a story and experience I'll never forget.

They take the characters they created within the first game and throw them to the side, and try to explain their story (which shouldnt happen in the first place you shouldnt need to explain your own story for yourself). They kill Joel within the first hour, and then you have to immediately play as his killer as well as multiple times throughout the story. Abby is completely unlikable as she was the one that killed a beloved character and the game devs attempt to humanize her in a complete failure. The game doesnt go above and beyond from the first game in terms of gameplay and it goes wayyyyy down in story. Expand

This game is art in its brutality.

    Pros:
Gameplay. The game improved upon the first in almost every way. Combat is more fluid with dodging, diving, improved animations and fluidity of movement, and more fun thanks to some fun new weapons like bomb arrows. Stealth is more fun than ever thanks to additions like going prone, crafting silencers, enemy dogs (which make the stealth harder, but the extra challenge adds more fun), hiding in grass of varying heights, improved communication and teamwork between enemies, and more.
Writing. The writing itself is great, whether you agree with the overall story or not. Individual conversations and lines are great, even if the occurrences of fun conversations are fewer and further between. The mid-combat dialogue feels more natural (although it's still peppered with the scripted "I think I saw something. > Go check it out, I'll watch your back") and enemies react better to my actions.
Visuals: This game looks amazing. The animations in particular are top-notch, some of the (if not THE) best in the industry.
Story: Great, but definitely not for everyone. People angry about Joel's death are upset *because that's how you're supposed to feel about it.* You're supposed to be outraged. But Naughty Dog made the mistake of thinking people could contextualize their anger within the game like rational beings instead of at the developers. The story is brutal. It's hard to experience. But it's very well-made. You're *supposed* to be angry and confused when you have to play as Abby. The whole point is that it shines a light on how we view Joel as this hero when he *wasn't.* The cycle of revenge was portrayed extremely well in this story. "Uhh, but she didn't get revenge!" Yea the whole point was that Ellie lost herself when she lost Joel, and Abby lost herself when she lost Jerry (and almost lost herself again later when she lost her friends). People who missed this didn't listen to Joel's song, "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself." Letting go and putting an end to the cycle was the only way to truly move on and find themselves again. It was a beautiful message that was beautifully told.

    Cons:
Gameplay: A hell-bent revenge mission doesn't seem as realistic when I'm stopping to pick up notes constantly. Very small detail, but something I couldn't help but chuckle at. As far as difficulty, even on Survivor I found that I had a lot of stuff to spare at most times. I play fairly stealthily, meaning not lots of molotovs or bombs, which contributes to this, but still. I feel like a good way to make resources feel scarcer would be capping our carried resources at 2 instead of 3 on higher difficulties.
Writing: I personally don't understand the "Joel would never say his name" complaint, but I'll leave that here since it's such a common complaint and one that may be reasonable. Personally, I feel as though he followed Tommy's lead (and Tommy has been living in Jackson much longer so he's likely softer).
Visuals: idk there were a couple of visual bugs that were funny? No real complaints here.
Story: Abby's tale should have lined up better with Ellie's, where we're playing the other side of the story, but that would have been difficult considering she was the only enemy in those areas of the game (not the Seraphites). I just was excited to go through and see the effects of Ellie's actions from her point of view and we don't really get that until the aquarium on Day 3. The Seraphites seemed to contradict a lot of what Naughty Dog accomplished with the WLF. The WLF broke the trope of being the generic nameless enemies. They may have seemed pure evil after the events early in the game, but we see that's not the case later on when we get to play as Abby and see the amazing communities they've established. They're just like Jackson. The Seraphites are just evil, and presented as such at every turn. They're a violent, fanatical cult without any positive contributions to the world, and they're not even doing it out of desperation to survive like villains from the first game. They're just *evil* and it's so out of place within the rest of the game.

Coming off the first game, there was almost no way a sequel could live up to it and satisfy everyone. Some people think this means they shouldn't have made it, and that's one argument to be made. People say Star Wars should have been left alone, but each new movie deserves to be judged on its own merits, not just "the originals were amazing and we should've let it die with dignity." Same goes for this. You can think the original is better. But rating this game anything below like a 6 shows you're not truly critiquing the game, you're just ranting.

This game introduced 3 new groups trying to strive, and all 3 are willing to go on the gruesome path to secure their survival. People don't die heroes in this world, people are seeking revenge for even the smallest things, people are trying to protect what they love the most. It's the most human representation of what would happen if an actual apocalypse took over. The focus here is not a cure, it's the relations and acts characters have to go through to secure their survival.
The characters have some dumb decisions sometimes, but in the end, this game is trying to make you see the two sides of the coin: Ellie and Abby. You get to play as both of them, and it's awesome to see all perspectives. The plot keep moving at a slow pace, and there's a chapter who could be completely deleted because it felt dragged, but in the final showdown, it has a clear message. This game is about consequences. It's not epic, it's not pretty, it's not happy. It's tangible and human. Still, I did miss some strong supporting characters like in the first one. We don't get an Henry or a Bill here, and the new characters are likable at best. Not good, not bad either, I didn't just developed a strong connection with them, but they serve and move the story just fine. Hence my 9. Great experience, dont fall on the hate wagon, people are losing it because one narrative choice that had to happen sooner or later. This is a story about consequences, and it comes to all our beloved characters. People in this world don't get to escape their actions.

I think the fact that so many of these reviews are 0/10, and that it got review bombed with 0/10 keyboard smash reviews right at the hour it was released just goes to show how whiny gamers are. Sure you might not like the game, but it’s clearly not a 0/10. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of legitimate criticisms to the game but there are tons of illegitimate, petty ones too. Of course the game isn’t perfect: it’s constantly bleak with few moments of levity, it’s endlessly violent, and it transforms a girl we knew as a beacon of hope into a revenge driven slaughtering machine. But I hate to break it to people: the world these games take place in is constantly bleak. It’s endlessly violent. And Ellie goes through this transformation to mirror Abby; a girl who had her father and community slaughtered by Joel. By US as the player. It might make people upset, and as tragic as it was, it makes sense to me that Joel’s actions caught up to him. And again, it might make people upset, but it makes sense to me that in the end Ellie lets Abby go. I think it shows a lot about her character and that somewhere in there she still has that goodness that we see in the first game. Ellie knows that this is the woman who killed her surrogate father. But she also sees that Abby has become a surrogate mother for Lev, and chooses to make her peace and break the cycle of violence and revenge. I’ll finish by saying that I definitely enjoyed the first game more. But that doesn’t mean this is a bad game: not in the slightest. As the user rating begins to rise (since people who have actually played the game and not peeked at spoilers online are starting to leave their thoughts), I think we’ll begin to see proof that while the irrational negativity of the members of the video game community is often relentlessly, impossibly loud, once they quiet down, it opens up the room for actual conversation, which I’m eager to see. P.S. stop being dicks to the actors that were in the game. You might hate it but they had nothing to do with the writing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Too many people are blindsided by Ellie being lesbian ( like they didn't pay attention to the first game or play the DLC) , intimidated cuz Abby is buff and can probably beat your ass, or mad cuz a trans 13 year old exists ( who was supposed to get married off to some elder in their religious group) in the game that they automatically disapprove of the game -_-. It is not pushing any kind of agenda for people literally existing in a post apocalyptic game..Game and theme of vengeance was handled really well. Conflict was definitely present and showed repercussions of seeking vengeance from using Ellie to show conquest to achieve that goal and Abby as showing the aftereffect of completing vengeance and the void it creates after obsession of something for years.. it was foreshadowed hard in beginning of game during Joel song " if I lost you, I'd surely lose myself". Which is exactly happened to both characters. Game was superb to me. Of course it can have subjective criticism for how the gameplay and pacing can effect your experience but existence of lesbian or trans character shouldn't be a crutch for a problem in game. Just saying. Expand

I needed around 24 hours for a normal playthrough with 184 collectables found. This game is something special, positive and negative. Positives first: Big step up in gameplay in comparison to the first game, amazing sound design and soundtrack, amazing level design(the places feel like real places and not combat areas), the groundbreaking animations and the amazing acting, especially by Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey. These aspects are better than Tlou in every scene and level. They set new industrial standards. Negative aspects:
The difference between story/theme and gameplay. The moral of the story is that revenge is bad and the killing of innocent people isn't worth it, but the gameplay has a different opinion about it, it forces you to kill a lot of enemies in the most brutal way, if you want or not. You can't progress without killing at least 80% of all enemies in a area. I only finished one level without killing everyone, and I tried to save as many lifes as possible. It's a contradiction between story and gameplay in a way i have never seen it, it destroys the theme of the game. The handling of a lot of characters is also disappointing because 1. they have no character development and 2. they behave like different people. Part 1 and part 2 has the same characters but they have different personalities. You play half the game as a different character than Ellie and these segments are strange. You play them after playing them with Ellie but earlier in the timeline. These level are too long, specially because you start from the beginning where you have to work yourself back to the climax. The three in game days are interesting but the story is stretched and feels like they want to hold you back. If you don't like the character you are playing these segments feel really long (I almost quit the game for that reason, it felt like work to progress and not like fun). If the chapters where like Seattle day 1, day 1, day 2, day 2, day 3 and day 3 it would feel better to play because you work with both characters on the climax and not like one finished her arc and the other starts hers after that.
    Verdict:
The last of us part 2 is an amazing game in terms of animation, Gameplay, acting and sound design but the story stops the game from being a masterpiece like its predecessor. If i would include the horrible working conditions and leak handling, the game would rank lower. What has been achieved, a higher technical bar in the industry was paid by the health of the worker at naughty dog. Was it worth it?

The game is a waste of money. I'd rather replay the first one. Hated the story, seems like they wanted to make all the character androgynous, instead of a relevant part of the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game on a technical level is phenomenal- the fights are fluid and intense, the atmosphere for each area hits the nail on the head. The story has it’s ups and downs (mostly ups.)

Abby was an excellently executed character, while I feel at times the pacing of events could have been better, the story by the end felt quite fulfilling despite it being controversial. At first, I hated playing as Abby due to what she did to Tommy, Jessie and of course Joel- but as I played as her I gradually began to like her more and even went on to like her more than Ellie. This was momentarily however, as after switching back to Ellie I fell right back into her story and my love for the character was rejuvenated. I think that’s why I think the game is great, as it played with my feelings for characters a lot.

Some of the problems I had was some of the pacing, how Joel and Jesse were dealt with and the separation I felt this game had from the first.

I think this game feels more of a standalone masterpiece rather than a sequel to the masterpiece that was the first.

Naughty seems to have missed what made people love the original game. It wasnt the setting, or the plot, or the gameplay, it was the relationship that grew between the two protagonists. Its the further development of their relationship that many fans, myself included, wanted to see. Thats not what we got. Not even close. Instead we get some confused revenge plot that is not only overdone, but is poorly executed. I left this game feeling bitter, angry and frustrated, and only in retrospect did I realize that I didnt actually enjoy any of my time with it, and that I even regretted playing it. The original story is better left untouched.

I would rate this game as Not Worth Playing.

Im a fan of the original game, and if **** could write a good sequel story with same graphics and gameplay it would be a 10/10. When it comes to story I didnt like: 1) The setting could be anything, an encounter with a clicker is a chore and it doesnt play any role in the plot it doesn't it bring any emotions (sept for rat king) 2) Every attempt to make characters emotional didnt work eg as ellie we kill dogs but as abbie we pet dogs its such a poor attempt to make us like abbue 3) the plot is trying too hard to tell a revenge story 4) the decisions are hard to believe, for example the ending there was no reason for abbie to be spared

People are upset that the developers didn't make the most predictable boring happy ending plot that they had dreamed up in their unimaginative heads like most garbage marvel movies' plots spew out on a regular basis. One of the best games I have ever played. The people complaining cant even give a proper reason for hating it other than the fact that a certain character dies. The game shows you that Joel was not that good of a person and that him killing dozens of people that were trying to save humanity... has consequences... what did you think was going to happen. I knew 7 years ago he was done for in the next game.

Hopefully this rating spamming does cause them to cancel a potential 3rd game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The combat was greatly improved and also loved the fact that there was more workbenches ahah
However the story was a big **** mess!
Killing off the main character early on in the game by some hulk of a woman who’s dad was some random npc in the first one.
Making you play as the **** for half of the game to try and sympathise with her and learn her story (doesn’t change my mind, still hate the ****)
Making Ellie seem like the villain (also makes you kill dogs while Abby plays fetch and can pet them) Kills off Jesse and somehow overpowers Tommy? Logic
Also Ellie lets her magically go off into the sunset with lev (who is cool) and Ellie loses everything!!!
It just doesn’t make a good story, the first was a masterpiece and this just destroys it!!
Even the trailers were misleading by showing Joel in scene’s when he is blatantly dead by then.

Both sides are willingly ignoring what it does well and what it lacks. Graphics are great, gameplay serves its purpose. Story is interesting and really unexpected ... BUT when the credits starts rolling any enjoyment you could have taken from gameplay is overshadowed by an immense frustration built up from the very beginning of the game.

    TL;DR:

    - Visuals : 8/10 | Somehow i feel like the models are kinda on the ugly side. Even Dina and Ellie are not really attractive imo [Don't even get me started with Abby] , but otherwise, the rest is a treat to the eyes.

    - Gameplay : 7/10 | I'm more of an RPG player (Divinity, Dragon Age, JRPGS and such) so i guess i'm not the best qualified to judge this criteria. However, the gameplay is simple and effective enough to keep going without too much of a fuss.

    - Story: 4/10 | That's the core issue with the game. TL;DR: The choices made by the writers are bold to say the least. I honestly think the idea was interesting and would have made a great twist... if It was handled correctly, which was not the case here imo.

    > Extended opinion concerning the story: On paper, the themes and goal of the writers were to show how destructive hate and revenge can be; and by the end of the game this goal is achieved, sure. The core of the matter lies in how the main characters are treated throughout the game. Most of the players have built an attachement to Joel and Ellie and they are utterly destroyed in this sequel.

I believe that Abby and Joel share a lot in common: they both are merciless and cold killers coming from a great loss in their past. What makes them interesting is that they do not hide it and admit that they are not saints. They both even go through a redemption arc during their development. But the results are very different because of the writing.

Joel's arc works because he is shown as a human first and foremost, he turns from a cold and bitter old a**hole to a caring and loving father. And when he single handedly kills dozens of other survivors working to save humankind for a selfish reason at the end of TLOU you understand why. Understanding is not condoning though, and most players knows that he is a selfish prick for doing that, but still, they know how important Ellie is for him because you've seen everything they've shared and how Joel has grown since the beginning of the game.

Abby follows the same path... upside down. She is shown as a monster first and then the game tries to humanize her. But it doesn't work because the player is already so lost in frustration and anger that anything the game tries to soothe things up is blown away by what she did. And this is a stupid mistake made by professional writers... or it's intentional. In which case they are purposely ignoring basic rules of story telling.

Ellie is the biggest loser in TLOU2. Her character is shallow, always pondering everything - which is understandable and human - but doesn't sit well with the overall story. You see her taking harsh decisions, always going forward because the story needs it... and still, she's constantly questioning her own beliefs. Again, it makes her very human, but is a disservice the story as it breaks the rythm of the game. Moreover, her decisions are very questionable especially when after suffering a defeat and realizing everything she could have wanted otherwise, she gambles her peace for the sake of an old grudge... Which leads to an underwhelming rage when the player realizes at the end of the game that everything might have been in vain after all.

And this is frustrating. You poured hours upon hours upon one goal, watching a beloved character forsake herself and her dreams for it ... and all that for naught. Ellie didn't deserved this, she is a killer, sure. But so is everyone else in this universe, and unlike others, the player is emotionnally attached with Ellie which is why we feel her pain as our own.

If you played the first game, you will notice a major shift in how the characters act, it is totally different. Tommy and Joel who were not welcoming of outsiders, tell a random group of armed people right outside the town their names and where they are from. Joel ends up getting his head bashed in with a golf club, while Ellie and the player have to endure watching it while unable to do anything but watch. If that wasn't bad enough, you end up playing as Joel's killer for half the game. Naughtydog actually tries to make Joel's killer (Abby) out to be a saint that is a better person than Joel and Ellie. In fact you even have to fight Ellie while playing as Abby. At the very end of the game, Ellie fights with Abby and then lets her go safely. After Abby bites off two of Ellie fingers of course. I honestly cannot believe this was the follow up to the first game. My two favorite characters are destroyed, it is just sad. Also if you were hoping to see more infected types and just more interactions with them in this game, you will not get that here. The game mechanics also get repetitive and boring after the 300th kill. The story and characters (most of them) are poorly written and shallow with a lot of slow points, and no where near to the level of the first game. All of this for an ending with no payoff or satisfying conclusion, like watching a movie with the last 10 minutes cut off. Where's the closure? A disappointment compared to the first game. Expand

Last of Us was excellent at its time. Last of Us Part 2 was a disappointment. Joe getting killed off in chapter 1 even after saving abbys life is just stupid. The game was watchable till the fight between Elli + Abby. The 2nd half of the game I didn't even care to watch and so I skipped through it within 2-3 minutes. Abby is the "enemy" uninteresting 'ugly' character. I don't envy any PlayStation player who had to play through 2nd half of the game. 5/10 as the first half of the game was watchable even there were flaws included like that everything happens in one place/town. Fair enough. Expand

The journey Ellie goes on is one of the best and complex stories told in gaming. Whether it's the cut-scenes, the dialog during game play, the notes and their world building, the environmental storytelling. Everything has a purpose and no game has had me tear up this much since MGS3. Without going into spoilers, it's a game you need to play to fully understand the story and the journey Ellie and others go through.

Game play wise, this is a step up from everything ND has done before. AI is on a completely different level, as they'll try to flank you, send dogs after you, call out their friends names when they go down, and throw the occasional Molotov after you. Going prone, and the dodge had always worried be in trailers, feeling gimmicky, but I can safely say they enhance combat to a whole new degree. Only critique on the game play aspect is leveling your abilities up. ND takes away choice and forces you to go down a skill tree, where you might have to buy a skill you don't want to get one you do want. It wouldn't be jarring, if TLOU1 gave you complete freedom on which skills you want.

I shouldn't have to talk about graphics, it's a ND game, it's the best looking game you'll find on PS4. Every area is so detailed, and all enemies have distinct looking models.

This game means more to me than a lot of games, and the more I think about it, the more I can call it not only my game of this gen, but my game of all time. Not only was this everything I wanted in a TLOU sequel, this is everything I've wanted in a game, the feelings I felt playing, can't be emulated in other games.

This game is visually stunning, no denying the talent of the artists.

However, this game story wise is a complete swing and a miss.

If you played TLOU part 1, which you should have by now, you will quickly realize this is more or less the exact same game. Its basically point a to b fetch quests. It brings zero innovation to the table and you have literally have done everything in this game in other games.

What is absolutely terrible is the company lied to us and if you play as a certain character you are forced to kill dogs. There is another scene where the director of the game inserts himself in the game for a very lewd sex scene which is very disturbing.

You really are not missing much and I recommend skipping this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't usually write reviews for games, but I feel obligated to set the record straight for a sequel to a game I loved. This game was an absolute pain to get through. The graphics are impressive, but the gameplay is a total slog. The story is where it gets really bad, though. Ellie's section plays out like a teen drama. There're hints of a love triangle and the cliché teen pregnancy to force in some suspense. None of the characters from her half are truly likable but are at least somewhat nice to deal with. At the end of Ellie's half, we cut back to the beginning of the game to play as Abby; which just felt exhausting. The whole Abby playthrough, they tried to force reasons to like her down our throats. Literally everything they did just felt awful and tiring. The first thing Abby does when you're introduced to her is save a zebra. Everything is just so obvious, it's horrible storytelling. All said, this was a terrible game to play through, and I think I hate it so much because of how good it could've been. Expand

Sure the story isn't as good as the first one, but it is far more ambitious. As many people say, maybe the pacing wasn't right, and I myself never was fully invested in Abby's story. Still, this is easily in my top 3 ps4 games alongside Red Dead 2 and God of War. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Fantastic production values make this a beautiful looking game, maybe one of the best this Gen. I loved the first game and was super excited to play this. I tried to avoid spoilers and thought I would give it a fair shot. This is a story based game so the story is important. I went in with an open mind but couldn't quite gel with the new characters despite the game's best efforts. There is no doubt the game plays well but the story IMO was a major let down and prevents this game from matching calibre of the first one. I was left feeling let down by the end, and the game seemed to drag on for far too long.
If it had finished sooner I feel it would of served the game better.
ND seemed to be going for shock value over substance which is a real shame.
The flashbacks just reminded of how much I loved the bond of the characters from the first game.
I feel this game was a grand missed opportunity and not worth the 7 year wait. I wished they had left it as a stand alone game and not made a sequel.

Honestly, even if you don't like the story, the graphics and the amazing gameplay make it deserve more. It's not a 10/10 for me because the gameplay it's kinda of repetitive sometimes and I would change some things in the narrative to make abby more likeable, because I think she deserves the empathy that ND tries to cause on us, but her introduction to the story messed it up, I only started to like her when I saw her completely destroyed. The narrative is realistic I think that's why you're all so triggered. Nobody is a hero or a villain and the characters are unpredictable and I love that. The game is unique and totally satisfied my expectations of crying for a week. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not the worst game ever. Genuinely. But if you a fan of the first game and primarily its characters, this one does them dirty. Seriously at some points to where you wonder if its the same person. And ultimately a game that has you murder hundreds of people to avenge a friend decides at the last moment that killing is bad. Which is at odds with the entire game of murder. And that results in a very unfulfilled felling by the end. Expand

The game treats Ellie like trash turning her from a joyful pun loving character to someone from the DCEU. Last of Us 2 goes from a linear game to a small hub open world for one section only just to go back to a linear game, which was disappointing as there are no real alternate paths to lead to same goal or small area for weapons/resources. the two characters have different weapons and ability upgrades which was ice for the first play through i wish on new game plus the both characters got the others weapons and some of the crafting skills, as i really liked the crossbow and the incendiary shotgun shells. if you really want to play this wait for it to go on deep sale or borrow from someone who has it. Enjoy a lot of the game, looks fantastic but had a few unexplained AI moments (not uncommon in most games to be fair) but the kicker is the storyline, I just really dislike the changes to the characters, there's also a weird disconnect between how they act and then specific cut scenes.

I play slower than most people and wasn't in a rush to complete it since I'd heard about the ending anyway. Did not expect it to be quite as poorly finished as that though. What a way to kill off what could have been a great series of 3-4 games. I've no interest in a sequel at this point.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
