    Ellie witnesses Joel her father figure being murdered by a mediocre, wannabe, try hard, no good, sook (Abby).
    She gets upset and goes on a rampage of revenge. She Kill's a couple of Abby's Friends which didn't really have much to do with the whole **** show other than being willing witnesses.
    She comes all this way while getting Jesse killed, Tommy shot, she loses Dina and their baby only to spare Abby in the end     … Expand

    Last of Us 2,in terms of gameplay,fulfilled its mission:It has a suffocating tone and keeps you on edge all game long and like the first game, it has great visuals. Story wise, its lackluster: I couldn't relate to any characters, story and the journey was not fulfilling and when the game ended i felt like I wasted my time.     Neil Druckmann destroyed this game ,the story is very bad , where is the jewel of first part ? why incluyed his progres politics? I'm feel very sad for this videogame. It could have been a masterpiece, but it was destroyed.

    Good Graphics and Good Performance is equal to 3 stars. Only 1/4 of the story is 1 more star. The rest of the game is disgusting with poorly written story (3/4), Agendas, and the disgusting way Naughty Dog designed the female characters.

I wrote this review like 3 times already, but HERE WE GO AGAIN, I loved the amount of detail they put in graphics, the level design is just gorgeous, the music is perfect and memorable, the story is believable, very sad, and touching, BESIDES I gave it a 10/10. There were things I DID NOT LIKED about the ending. It leaves you kinda unsatisfied, This will sound a little dramatic, but they closed the story for this characters, that's right, all of them, I didn't mind they killed Joel, it was good and necessary for the arc they wanted to tell, but ripping off Ellie's fingers, we will never play as Ellie again, I'd love to see spin-offs with other characters but, Ellie is what's left of the face of The last of us, without her, making a part III, would not be as engaging, I get, Abby and Lev are the new main characters, but they can be in a Spin-off, I really don't think they deserve to replace Joel and Ellie. OVERALL IS ONE OF THE GREATEST GAMES I've played, they just finished the main story of TLOU. I don't think it is what people wanted, but I get is what Neil wanted. I don't see a Part III, but maybe a spin-off.… Expand

    People may say that we're hating this game just because of the LGBT issue, while it's entirely the opposite: they're expecting us to like it just because it's included. This game is rubbish despite whatever they feel like putting on it. Simple as that.

    Look, when I want to watch a movie, I just want to sit back and watch the magic happen. What I DON'T want to do is touch the damn controller every 45 minutes because another walking segment interrupts my movie. Please fix this, it's really annoying.

    This game is not a Disney or Pixar movie. Many people need that formula. TLOU2 doesn't follow the formula that 90% of games follow. We've played that game before, we've watched that movie before... Thousands of times with different character names but the same format. It breaks another common trend as it doesn't try to teach you morals so if you need your games and movies to validate your already existing beliefs, you'll be disappointed. You might even be mad about it because it will disturb you. But that's the beauty of it too. Most games mediocre copycat, copy stamped formulas of the same thing over and over again. Why? Because of people that review low like this. People need games to be a certain way that molds around their values and expectations instead of allowing themselves to delve into the mind of the artist. And because of that, we end up with shelves of generic, safe games. TLOU2 is nothing like that.

    They skip boundaries that most games wouldn't dare touch - and the result is leaving the player feeling a sense of loss. This loss is a melting pot of contradictions and ideas. It forces our eyes open to how conflicted the world is and how none of us can see the bigger picture. Just like our real world today. Everyone has ideas and are more concerned with being right than understanding the reality of how things actually are on all sides - so no progress can be made.

    In a way, I'm kind of glad it's divisive because then I won't see hundreds of new games that copy/paste the formula until it becomes beat like a dead horse TLOU2 is delicate, brutal and way ahead of its time. That time may never come though - because people want that copy paste formula that they know and love. If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch any Marvel, Disney, Pixar movie and you'll find a predictable path that leads to making lots of money but the film is a rehash of the same thing. TLOU2 has amazing gameplay elements but where I feel it shines greatest is the character study driven storyline. It's a work of art if you can get beyond what you wanted to happen. Plotwise, it's a deep character study that pulls you in a whirlwind in a way that no other game has. Characters are overwhelmed in a post apocalyptic environment. I don't want to give spoilers. I played it all the way through and it isn't until the end of the game that everything comes together so well. You definitely need to get through it all to understand what Naughty Dog did.

    Are people reasonably upset? Sure. Like I said, it's not for everyone. There's games like Animal Crossing and Zelda that are much easier to take in than this one. Naughty Dog did a fantastic job of making your a participant in this apocalyptic world by making choices that make you feel confused and shocked - I find it gripping. But for those that have a darker side, or a need to try something fresh and innovative - you'll find this to be one of the best games recently made.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For context, I played this game around a month ago and I didn't even particularly want to play this game this year but with all the negative opinions of this game, I just had to play it.

    Story (Spoiler Free)
    (I'll tell you when I'm about to talk about other aspects of the game)

    The first hour or so with this game is honestly perfect and feels like it is about to set up a perfect sequel to the first game but it soon strays from this path to make a different story, a potentially good story but the writing falls a little flat and character relationships feel like they're ripped out of a soap drama which is tone-deaf to what the plot really should have set out to accomplish.

    Looking at characters from the soap drama perspective it becomes clear that Neil Druckman wanted to subvert expectations in a more realistic and grounded sort of way which can make the story appear to be disingenuous to itself and what has come before often leaving behind great characters but rarely great dialogue between them and very little sense of any meaningful relationship between them.

    But occasionally the game does reach the same heights of the original on a few levels, if you asked me how much of the game reached the heights of the first game I'd say round it to 1/3rd.

    Is the story bad? no. but a lot of the foundations are struggling to hold it up and coming off of the back of The Last of Us 1 and Uncharted 4 it's a little disappointing that the story doesn't hold up.

    It's neither good nor bad.

    Graphically the game is beautiful, there's nothing really to say here, the cinematography is incredible and has its own style.

    The gameplay is top tier, a lot like the first game in that it's not deep but not overly simple, not to say it plays similar to the first but in the Survival Horror genre of gaming no other game tops this in terms of how polished the core mechanics are and I shouldn't have to explain, after all, it is a Naughty Dog Game.

    Honestly, it's kinda stupid how people take something so ridiculous as having a favorite character and trying their best to ensure that a particular character is the holy grail of the series, I feel like I've played many games where a particular character dies in s similar fashion where people haven't taken it so personally (not to insinuate that anybody should take the death of a particular character personally at all) and I find this whole "THE GAME IS BAD CUZ X, Y, Z CHARACTER DIES" argument immature and honestly dumb, the game has flaws but that isn't one of them, it's evidence of a deeper problem that the story faces and that is kinda mid-tier character writing and conflicting tonality. If you're on the fence wait a year until this game is cheaper or don't rush to play it, play it in your own time and on your own morals.    … Expand

The story is a mess, zombies are irrelevant, a third into the game you realize they're retconing the first installment, which already was an obvious plagiarism of the movie Children Of Men. This is a game about lesbians and travestites, if twitter collectively had developed a game this would be it. Absolute ****

I even cried on the credits, previousl, evolved compared to TLOU 1 gameplay and a strong storyline. I literally counted the days until it came out, and when it came out, I immediately went to buy it. What can be distinguished from the advantages: excellent graphics, animation, plot, combat system, duration of the game. What can be distinguished from disadvantages: lies about the plot. From the trailers, it was assumed that Dina would be killed and Ellie would avenge her, and Joel would keep us company for the entire game, but it's exactly the opposite, Yes, Joel is, of course, but he's mostly in the memories. And the gameplay for the second character-Abby is given more time than necessary. Of course, I liked this character, but I expected that most of the time we will play for Ellie, and in the end 50-50. Though there were times where the story which lies at the core of the game seemed to progress almost too slowly with all of the travel from point A to point B. If ND is interested in narrative experimentation in playing as a character's killer, then I think a new IP would have been the place to do it. Don't spit in the face of the fans. I loved TLOU 1. I love that it told us about hope in a world of despair. I love that it had memorable, precious moments between characters, but this game is MISERABLE. Everything is miserable from the characters to story beats to the themes. There is no light in the dark anymore because ND extinguished it. Avoid this game.… Expand

People became attached to Joel's character last game and to see him brutally murdered made alot of people deal with a death they weren't expecting to deal with. Its a video game character but to alot of people who became attached, its like a real death and thats whats upsetting people. There outrage is a reflection of what they feel as loss.     I bought this from FB Marketplace... I was amazed at the price drop it had so soon. I tought this game would have 0 replay value since there were more than a couple of this in my area to say the least.
    I got very tracked in when playing the first hours, I didn't get how Joel seemed like a different character altogether but I could bite in the "Revenge plot" they needed for this game.     Then... in the middle of the game We got to play as the freaking antagonist and I tought this would be a freaking badass momment but we only saw her as a bad character with 0 depth that was shown to be the next best thing besides bread or something. I bought this game because I loved the story in 1 and I don't enjoy the second part at all because the story makes no sense, the characters are different in the skin of the previous characters and honestly... This game doesn't lack replay value, IT LACKS PLAY VALUE. Don't buy it, it's probably worth the same as any bad fanfic TLOU1 had.    … Expand

    This game is a Masterpiece. The work that went into creating and caring for even the smallest of detail is staggering. The characters are in a class of their own and the story is both engaging and thought-provoking.

    Have just finished it. It's not a bad game but has so many storytelling pace and climax ruined errors. Technically it is impressive and I congrats every programmer that have worked on this, but story is really bad. It's a game with so many facets. The characters have so many facets. I have been trying to write something, but I have been keeping fighting against myself about what I wrote and at the end just deleted most of it. I think the answer is that unfortunately your HQ is now in the SF area where there is smug intolerant politics combined with entitlement ethics and contempt for past work. As such the characters in this game look and sound like a bar scene in SOMA San Francisco vs a time and place where Ellie and her peers are situated.     This franchise is all about the story. Without the story the game means nothing. This game does have great visuals and great gameplay, but the main focus needs to be the story. The story just isn’t good and it tries too hard to make you feel sorry for people that you immediately don’t want to feel sorry for. And the ending tries so hard to make you feel sad, without making any logical sense.
    bsolute disrespect towards the 1st game. The story and the characters are so horribly written that it doesn't even make me angry anymore, just sad. There is nothing new in the gameplay we haven't seen already in other games. The only thing that's truly great about this game are the graphics. But that's it. The quality of the story rivals the story of Star Wars VIII: The last jedi. And i didn't even mention the forced SJW/gender propaganda (however, these are not the core problems of the game).
    Verdict: 4/10 (just because the graphics are amazing).

    So as a casual gamer I have only just completed the game probably later than most.

    I honestly cannot see how it can have been given bad reviews. The game play is greatly improved on. The story is stellar and that ending I was on the edge of my seat!!

    Gráficamente el juego es impresionante y sólo por eso vale la pena jugarlo y disfrutarlo. No me corto en ponerle un 8/10.

    Jugabilidad divertida en tiroteos, aburrida en la exploración y en la monotonía secuencial de : entrar, limpiar de personas y/o infectados , obtener recursos, salir, andar encontrar nuevo sitio y repetir secuencia. Luego, momento de clímax cortado por un flashforward en demasiados momentos para mi gusto. El peor momento anticlímax es en el encuentro con Abby. 6/10.

    Para terminar mi valoración personal es que he estado entretenido, he estado muy enganchado hasta pasármelo y quiero volver a jugar. El vacío que me creó el juego me sirvió para esuchar su BSO, conocer más detalles de lo que hay detrás de la producción (equipo, actores/actrices, polémicas, etc.). En ese aspecto, puedo decir, que me ha aportado para mi crecimiento personal que otros juegos. es por eso que le doy el 8/10, ya que prefiero un Naughty Dogs que arriesgue a comprar un Fifa 2020 y gastarme 10K para tener todos los personajes.

    Entiendo todos y cada uno de los puntos de vista de las personas que lo han jugado. (menos la parte de ser políticamente correcto). ¿Cuándo dejaremos de ser así como humanidad?, está claro que en el universo de TLOU refleja lo mismo que en el universo COVID en el cual vivimos: No nos aceptamos como sociedad con pluralidad de gustos. Me hace gracia pensar en lo paradójico del asunto.

    Recomiendo jugarlo y construir una opinión propia y sobretodo aprended a amar a las personas, ya que se van de un plumazo de la noche a la mañana y vivimos un vacío similar al de Ellie. Remito a la canción de Future Days.

Ngl before i played the game I had heard so many spoilers that made me think the game was gonna be **** I was, at first, never gonna play the game because Joel dies and, to me, that would have ruined it, but surprisingly it was a lot better than I had heard. I loved the contrast between Ellie's and Abby's gameplay. Ellies was slow and methodical like an assassin, while Abby's was fast and brutal like a warrior. For the story, I preferred playing as Ellie, her relationship with Dina and Jesse. Her character made sense. This isn't little girl Ellie, this is an adult Ellie that has grown in a harsh world and cannot show that she is immune. Abby on the other hand felt like a blank canvas that was only used to try to get that "Ellie and Joel" type companionship between her and Lev. She never gave me a reason for redemption as I have been in love with the characters from the first game ever since I first watched a playthrough of the game. Her relationships with Manny, Owen, and Mel felt as though we were supposed to think of them as old friends, as if we already knew them (kinda like with Tess in the first). The ending had me feeling empty as though something was missing from it. I absolutely love the setting and the new "shamblers". The weapons felt good to use and I loved the rope and now when I play the first game, it feels awkward to be unable to jump or go prone. Really the only things I wish they did in the game would be making Dina more realistic (seriously, it is jarring how she changes from the end of day 1 to day 2), give Abby better flashbacks (I don't want to only be in the hospital and aquarium during the flashbacks), and give us more reasons to not like the Wolves as the only thing they did that made me not like them was that a group of them came and killed Joel. Besides that I found the game to be my favorite game I have played yet. I just hope they make a Part III and you play as either JJ or Lev because I think that would make sense.… Expand

    Let's go with the plot, one of the most important parts of the naughty dogs games. in my opinion this revenge story is pretty lazy. They wanted history to face a lot of problems in today's society such as homosexuality or sexism, but it does it very badly and messing it up with a shoehorn. Not because the 2 protagonists of the game are women, one of them a lesbian and the other a supergirl, but because they do not naturalize it, they make stupid references to it, all very forced. ignoring these sections, the story does not improve, in the end, it gives you the feeling that everything you've been through has been for nothing. I do not intend to make spoilers but it is not necessary, everything is very predictable. personally I would have opted for a new adventure of joel, tommy and ellie and I would not have incorporated these bad guys who in the end are not so bad.
    There are specific situations that I still don't understand, such as why Abby decides to betray her faction, which she owes a lot for helping two people she doesn't know about. again, the game tries to show you that abby isn't really that bad, but really? helping 2 strangers to the point of risking your life? Is this how you decide to show it to me?
    without a doubt the worst part of the game is the final, it doesn't even seem like it was planned. It seems that they introduced it to extend the game. seriously, the game could have ended in the theater with an epic final fight.

Furthermore, the skill tree and perks are serealized and locked which meant i had to sacrifice point for perks i didn't want to get through to the ones i wanted!     (1) This is not a horror game. If it was a movie, it would be tagged as "drama", then "action" maybe. You are not escaping some evil or hoping to find survive to reach some destination. In this game you are the hunter. If there is any horror, it's you. The whole game is about a quest for revenge. In doing so, you will butcher countless humans. There are still some infected (zombies) here and there, but they are more like random critters, not at all the main focus.

    (2) This is the main problem. You play as various characters, but they are all detestable, including Ellie. I've never hated main characters that much before. If it was a movie it would be alright perhaps. But sticking such long hours commanding a character that you hate on a quest that you reject makes enjoying the game impossible. I still watched the story to the end, and believe me, it only gets worse. In the last hour of the game, I was like, are you for real !!!

    (3) As others commented, the game has a lot of political messages here and there. As a mature individual I don't care, but the problem is with influenceable kids playing the game. And no matter what the rating is, kids will always play all kind of games. Then it becomes a problem what they are being told.

    I believe this game killed the franchise. The only way they could release another game in this series is by moving completely away from this horrible cast.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
