I was mad at Abby at first for what she did to Joel, but I loved that the game lets you play Abby because here is where gain her perspective. That she is not the villain that we think she is. If things were reversed, Joel would done what Abby did.… Expand

    Last Of Us 2 has been an incredibly divisive game. Some loved it and some hated it. I am in the former category. To me, it is the greatest PS4 exclusive, tied with God Of War(two extremely incomparable games). Seeing many negative reviews all around the internet, I felt like I should voice my thoughts too.

    I am completely neglecting the negative reviews because of the homophobia and misogyny, because any time spent entertaining those thoughts(including typing out this sentence) is a waste of my time.

    And I guess I don’t need to speak about the gameplay, graphics and the horror(gameplay horror) of the game, coz that is almost unanimously agreed as stellar.

    The main criticism about the story was that it was ‘pointless’, and ‘unnecessary’ in many players’ eyes. I read many people saying, the story was ‘all for nothing’ at the end, when she forgave Abby. Some loved what happened, and some hated it.

    We must begin by asking ourselves the question- “What is the story of The Last Of Us 2”

    If the answer is- “When Joel was brutally murdered by members of an organisation, led by Abby, in front of the eyes of Ellie, she seeks vengeance and to rain down agony on everyone responsible”, I think you got the answer wrong. That, I believe, is the plot of the game, not the story. And that is where, this transcends to above anything we have ever seen in this industry.
    Let’s take Last Of Us(1). The plot is- “following and outbreak that rendered much of the population top be zombie like creatures, the protagonist Joel, must take an apparently immune child, to an organisation to develop a vaccine for the disease”. But what was the story that you took, away? It was about a father, trying desperately to right a wrong from his past. Ask any parent, and it is very likely that they consider “protecting their child” to be the most important duty in their life. Joel would've been no different either. But he failed very early, when his beautiful daughter, Sarah, died in his arms, terrified and defenceless. He is a hardened man weighed down by this pain. When he travelled across the country taking care of this little, foul mouthed girl, deep inside, he was in some ways seeing his own daughter there. When he first thought she was in danger, he ignored the excruciating pain he was under and rushed to save her. And when it meant that potentially saving the world would mean, letting her die, he could not go through with it. He failed his daughter once, but he cannot do it again.

    Last Of Us Part 2, has a similar tale to it. On the surface, it seems that Ellie is driven by the anger towards Abby and the rest of the WLF crew. Her fuel was the raging vengeance, one might think. But I think the flashback scenes prove that it was different. She was driven by anger, surely, but it was not towards Abby and WLF. It was towards Ellie herself. Just like Joel felt like he failed Sarah in Part 1, Ellie feels that she failed Joel, when she was not there to save him. Or worse, she feels that Joel died thinking that Ellie hated him. For taking away the meaning of her life. Deep inside, even she knew that she meant a lot to the man and she meant a lot to her. Enough for a lifetime. Her journey through the game, was her over circles of hell, that she put herself through.

    Then we have Abby. A girl who saw hope for a second, when everything was taken away from her by a mad man. She has not known peace since then. Her nightmares were filled with those memories and she had no escape. When she finally found him, she unleashed all her anger on to him, hoping for an escape. But she did not find it. Until, she tried to make more of her life. By fighting with everything she got, trying to save a boy and girl, whom she was trained to kill. It is there, that she was close to finding peace. But again, it was shattered when this girl came out of nowhere and killed almost everyone dear to her. But this time, she chose forgiveness, because she knew that therein lies true freedom.

    With this, we reach the final act, where we find these two incredibly complex characters, battling it all out. This is where Ellie REALLY sees herself, Abby and Lev. The woman dying Ellie’s clutches was none other than Joel himself and the little boy dying in the boat, was Ellie herself. This crushing realisation pulled back Ellie to stop this chain of hate.
    In the epilogue of the story, we see a final memory of Ellie and Joel trying to mend the broken relationship. Was it a real memory, or an imagination by Ellie? Her wish to believe that he knew, that whatever happened, she could never hate Joel? That he will always be like a father to her? Whatever it was, that brought peace to Ellie.
    This is what I take back from the story. If this interpretation intrigues you in anyway(lovers and haters of the game), please do try to play it again. See if it means more to you, this time around.    … Expand

    Сюжет слаб, ничего не понятно, я не против бесполезных бойцов бесполезности, но проебать сюжет, слабо описать героев, обосрать наследие 13 года.Повествование рваное, никто ни на что не влияет, выбора нет.     The first part is very good , the graphics are amazing playing as Ellie within the game going through the levels is without a doubt is very good ,throughout the first part you get certain flashbacks of Joel whereby Ellie remembers the time she had with Joel. One of the biggest flaws I have seen is with the enemies whereby the AI seems really poor making the game seem very easy with thisThe first part is very good , the graphics are amazing playing as Ellie within the game going through the levels is without a doubt is very good ,throughout the first part you get certain flashbacks of Joel whereby Ellie remembers the time she had with Joel. One of the biggest flaws I have seen is with the enemies whereby the AI seems really poor making the game seem very easy with this there is a lot of virtue signaling with graffiti on the wall which seems to be a representation of Anita and woman power along with notes which you collect that signals up raisings against conservatives and their views which to me makes the game a little political as well with a lot of agenda behind it but the overall experience of the 1st part of the game I'll give a 8 out of 10. For the second part things begin to take a turn and things start going all out on agenda so far as I play I'll give the second part a 4 out of 10 if there wasnt any agenda within the game and a better villain this game would of at least been about a 8 out of 10 in total while playing I cant shake the thought of if ND wanted shock value they could of used Joel's daughter as a villain which has somehow survived and memory lost , what I mean by this is that the government or people who probably created the virus brought her back and made her some super solider which Joel and Ellie goes up against which Joel then sacrifices his life in order to save her that would of been a better send off for Joel but thats just my opinion.… Expand

But when it comes to the one part that made the first game so memorable, the story, this game just fails to deliver and by that even destroys the memories of the first one.
    The game actually doesn't really care too much about telling a good story. It prioritises political and social agendas above everything else. It's a problem often seen in movies and television during the last view years and is just saddening to see. It's not the problem to make such statements or agendas... the problem is how it's done... forcefully.    … Expand

The dialogue is bad, Joel and Tommy are not credible in their roles (not that Joel sticks around much) and Abby's whole gang of rag-tags are insufferable. The humiliating way Joel dies is an insult to his character, the first game, and the fan base's intellect. I just won't fall for such cheap attempts at emotional manipulation. Joel is reduced to a mere instrument for justifying this badly designed revenge plot. And in the end, they still try to make him the bad guy. The game wants you to think there are more deep themes at play but there aren't. They did it for shock value. The characters are just puppets, servient to the plot and scarcely have any motivations of their own.

    At least it's fun, right? Not unless you enjoy dragging yourself through 25 hours of bleak slow-paced cut-scenes, with unlikable characters you can't even relate to. It's gonna pay off in the end when the story is supposed to go somewhere and make some sort of point, except it doesn't, and you forgot about it anyway because you got tired of stabbing people's throats over and over and over again.

The first half of the game is a nice beautiful adventure of Ally and Dina. The gameplay is almost no different from the first part, new puzzles with a rope and glasses !! Wow is that all you came up with? the stealth curve is boring and not interesting and does not look like the E32019 gameplay.But then it gets worse and worse the gameplay for a new character degrades. They make us love Abby and forgive her, try to show that she is a good person in different aspects. I feel like the author says: "Love her !! and hate Ally".Hitler also created pictures and was an artist.     The first game was great. It really saddens me how they betrayed the memories of the fantastic characters that they established from the first game. The story makes no sense at all and in the end you feel as if the whole game is pointless. The graphics look great, but this is the type of game where the story is really important and unfortunately it is a real disappointment.

    SGW ruined this game. Its make just for Nill Druckmunn and his friends, not for PLAYERS. Awful story, politics infusion in game, new characters is very bad. Gameplay from 2013. Only graphics is pretty good. But main part of this game is STORY and it was ruined by LGBT community. 20 hours - and it is a full game?

    While playing this game I was hooked by the story, it is a well written story, with it moments that seem forced, I'm all for diversity in a game, as long as it's done well, and having Abbie to become the playable character in the se one half was a bad move, as her character wasn't the best written, and the way they ruined everything TLU1 established hurt me as a fan, having Joel die and then ellie but it just was too over the top and the sex scenes were not needed at all.


    For the gameplay it's simple too simple with slight improvements from the first a game doesn't have to be complex in its gameplay but it has to be done well, and the simple controls get repetitive too quickly which just left me getting bored.

    But this game's story does a huge disservice to the game and sucks out all the fun. They tried to make the story special but instead made the biggest disappointment of a sequel ever.
    I enjoy sad stuff but this game is just misery. An inconclusive misery. The game tries to set itself apart but sacrifices all the buildup and the positives the franchises had. The game is emotional only on a superficial level. But it is good at misdirecting people with depressive stuff. The main character of previous story is sacrificed for shock value and we get a mediocre story in return. It results in his overall story being meaningless just to serve as a plot point.
    This mediocre revenge trope is supposed to have some deeper meaning but it fails at that too. What is the point of deeper meaning when life or death gets decided by luck. Revenge is bad? Not if you are lucky and those whom you wanted to exact revenge on are unlucky. You should forgive others? Not if others aren't main characters. The cycle of revenge is still going on because you killed others along the way and people close to those you killed can still come to direct revenge at you. Also the story has plotholes.
    Characters and their intentions are contradictory. There are elements of the game which are mind-blowing but the whole game is super disappointing.
    I don't recommend this game to the true fans of the original TLOU and those who loved the original characters.

The story which that should continue one of the most compelling stories in gaming that is the original last of us is completely butchered. Where to even start. The death of Joel. What a joke. One of the best protagonist of a game in the last decade and they killed him with a golf club in an ambush which he should, could and would have seen if it isn't for the **** writing from Neil Druckmann and his team. The ending. The **** ending. Why. Just why didnt ellie kill abby. Wtf. Not to mention the sideplots and the stupidity of them. And playing as Abby and trying to portaray her as a hero is just plain brain dead decision making. **** game.… Expand

    I dont care if the reason for doing this game was because the game devs got bullied because LGTB... i got bullied as a child for wearing big glasses, but if im in a creative process of a AAA game, lets say, LOTR themed, with a journey + big ending battle, I will    To be honest, I don't understand why a game has to be used as a means to achieve an end, rather than use it as an end itself.

    I dont care if the reason for doing this game was because the game devs got bullied because LGTB... i got bullied as a child for wearing big glasses, but if im in a creative process of a AAA game, lets say, LOTR themed, with a journey + big ending battle, I will not make it around a leading character wearing glasses + a background story made it to protect that guy and how amazing and unvelievable even tho wearing glasses he is, and showing the people how immerssive we should be, and more concious about them...please **** off...you ruined evertyhing, the thing is that they didndt overcome their own LGTB traumas, we dont have any problem against LGTB, they do.

    What do you have between hands? A Post-Apocaliptic and Zomied-ish themed game, shut the **** up, focus on the important stuff and put aside your traumas that will make the game less attractive for the lets say...vast majority? (3.4 score)? You got what you deserve.    … Expand

This was done to change opinions on said secondary character but their actions always loomed in my mind and the hate built up just awaiting this character's demise. Gameplay is basically the same from the original game with the only major change is the ability to prone and the more brutal kill animations. The jump button while nice to have isn't well implemented. This game feels like an utter disrespect to everything that made the first game great and a disregard for the reasons why fans loved this series.

I won't give this game a zero out of spite like many are doing because the game is technically fantastic and that deserves praise. However what they've done with the Story and characters is insulting to all the fans of the first game. A video game is not a place to push for your ideology and political beliefs in detriment for the fans' enjoyment.     The game itself as the graphics, setting, environments is perfect, especially for ps4, but the story is very weak, the objectives are loops without anything in particular other than revenge, as the first game that did have a clear objective and the missions made sense

    Spent 25+ hours looking for the sixty dollar value spent on this. Searched every nook and cranny. Trophies were attained one after another during my quest. Finally found it. In what has to be the most brave, bold, and revolutionary step in gaming history--I got to herd sheep.

    I don't care about the SJW sh**, the graphics, game mechanics are all amazing but this story completely sucks in this one. Unlike TLOS this game is more about revenge and hate but the ending does no justice for that. The characters are all unlikeable and the narration falls flat on this one.

Full disclaimer, I was one of those people back in Feb/March when those leaks dropped, that I vowed never to play and hate Naughty Dog, blah-blah-blah. Luckily I came to my senses very quickly and even bought a special edition from Game UK where you have a reversible sleeve for Ellie which is pretty dope.

    I played The Last of Us Part II last week and did so everyday until I completed it on 01 December 2020. Yeah, Joel died but I got over it...as Jim Sterling pointed out, Joel wasn't a good human, he had a shady past. The game deal with loss and grief in the most realistic way depicted. I like Abby Anderson as a character who fights exactly like Joel which i thought was interesting. If I met Abby in a post apocalyptic world, I wouldn't care about her past; the fact she's so badass is a plus and I happen to love buff women like Gina Carano and Bridgette Goudz (sure, they are conventionally attractive but they're Amazonian!)

    And let's remember, Neil Druckmann doesn't have an anti-male agenda thing going on, he still honours Joel through really emotional flashbacks and right at the end, when Ellie is about to kill Abby. There are many great surprises throughout, from Dina/Ellie in Wyoming to Santa Barbara (my favourite section).

    If you're one of those idiots who loves Ryan Kinnel (that boy needs to eat) Geeks & Gamers (I could easily knockout Jeremy in the ring) , Heels vs Babyface (ironically throwing a childlike tantrum when Sony copy struck his channel) and TheQuartering (overweight turd in a basement) then you should avoid this review! They've gotten and continue to get subs with their far-right politics, not for me, thanks.

    I played this game, loved it and Naughty Dog took a risk, rather than copy-and-paste. It will win Game of the Year at next week's VGAs. I cannot wait to try it on Game Plus.

    Oh my word. The only reason I didn't rate this a 0 is because of the graphics and the look and feel of the game. That's stunning, but the game play isn't great and the atrocious story line forced me to score this a 1. If you played the first game, DON'T DON'T DON'T play this one. The politically correct forcefeeding is sickening. My wife could not watch the game. She loved the 1st one. Horrible.

But the experience was average compared to the 1st games extraordinary story. I would still recommend buying if you enjoyed the first one but I personally regret not waiting for a price drop as this game does nothing as extravagant and eye catching as the first. It also got a little repetitive. The graphics are top notch tho and gorgeous so if that's why you play games this is a must, but I assume you are like me and graphics fall in importance behind story and gameplay. Honestly I had fun playing, but I probably wouldn't play thru again... (and I have beat the 1st one like 3 times mind you)... just my 2 cents tho, I am by no means a pro reviewer but I would recommend waiting for a price drop unless you are just a Last of Us fiend, in which case prepare for some heartbreak in the story/character department… Expand

Graphics and environmental details are at their absolute best and although the gameplay may get tedious at times, I found it very satisfying overall. That being said, The Last of Us was always about the story primarily. It was not hailed as a masterpiece because of its gameplay, but because its character interactions and story were so good. This game fails primarily because Neil Druckman got more obsessed with his "art" and agenda then he did about making a satisfying and fulfilling sequel. You watch the main character of the last game be brutally and disrespectfully killed after having him break character completely. Besides flashbacks, Joel and Ellie have less than a handful of scenes together and their relationship is barely built upon. You are then forced to play as his killer for what amounts to nearly half of the game while they blatantly try to force you to empathize with them. In an attempt to make you feel bad (as is seemingly this games entire purpose) Druckman vilifiies the main characters you've come to love. After killing her way through countless random survivors to get to Joel's killer, Ellie lets them go in some absolutely atrocious epiphany moment. It ends on Ellie existing in her biggest fear, being alone. A true and absolute failure in every way but visuals and being a post apocalyptic murder simulator. Even at that, it constantly guilts you out of any enjoyment you could get from it. Cannot express my disappointment and hate for this game and its director. Based on gameplay and set pieces the game could garner high praise, but with a story this poor, everything else that could be good is rendered moot.… Expand

    This Game is the best game in my life , I loved first one but I lived TLoU Part II , don't listen to me or anybody else , don't say it's bad cause it has a 5.0 user score or it's good cause it's critic score is 94 , play the game ! no one can be in your shoes ! As probably most fans, I've absolutely loved the first part and got very emotionally attached to Ellie and Joel - this is the first game I've ever pre-ordered, and I've been playing video games since the late 1980s. I hope this paints a picture on how much I was looking forward to this.

    I can't believe it has come to this, but they somehow managed to ruin everything.

    Ok, so first things first: people who take issue with the characters being the way they are are obvious haters. I can't comment on how well done they are, how "included" and "represented" the related social groups feel with the characters in TLOU2, but what a character (or a person) for that matter IS is less important to the story than what the character DOES. Whether some characters being transgender, gay, or black or white adds to the story or not is a topic to be discussed, perhaps, but I don't think it takes away anything from the game.

    However, the issue with TLOU2 is a glaring and monumental one, and I haven't god the faintest idea how someone, somewhere, had a meeting about what they will do with the game, and they all agreed this was a good thing? I can't comprehend someone would propose to force the players of TLOU2 to play as a character that kills Joel with a golf club and then bites Ellie's fingers off?

    I'm sorry, you want me to do what? I can't possibly like being forced to play, let alone identify with, a character that literally kills and tortures maybe my two favourite video game characters ever? What the hell is the matter with you, people? Who thought it would be a good idea to have TLOU2 be played from a perspective of someone who hates Ellie!?

    Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY cares about Abby. We don't care about what happened to her, we don't care about why she is angry, and we most certainly don't care about biting off Ellie's fingers.

    This is basically Top Gun 2, where Maverick is murdered in the first five minutes, and then the rest of the movie is about about some random pilot doing loops in a Cessna.

    Or Life is Strange 3, but you get to play as Jefferson and do you know what (for the love of God, please don't ever make this happen).

    I don't understand the thinking behind continuing a story about two characters so deeply loved by the fans and the community, only to get it seen from a perspective of a random person nobody cares about. This has to be one of the biggest "what were they thinking?" moments of video games industry.

    Apart from that, the game is... I don't care. I bought it to see Joel and Ellie, not kill the former with a golf club, and mutilate the latter.

    In short, don't buy this game if you are a TLOU fan. I hope one day we can pretend none of this ever happened.    … Expand

The game is very linear and against exploration. The tone of the game is ruthlessly dark, with no comic relief. And let's not forget about the little issue with the story. If you liked the two main protagonists from the first game entry, don't expect anything to come of them. At all. Also, the sex scene really should haven't been made. It was pandering and it did nothing to progress what little progress there was in the game.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
