This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I saw the user score at first I thought it was review bombing. I played the game, the graphics and animations are the best I’ve ever seen in a video game. The story is the worst, it is like they dumbed down the characters we love from the first one. The plot armors are countless to keep some characters alive and kill some characters off pointlessly to steer the story the way they want to term the story as unpredictable or bold. You can see where the story is going and why Joel was killed right from the start because he was talking about that incident at the start of the game with Tommy. The story was not interesting. Not to mention it is false advertising by showing Joel and replaced him with Jesse in the game. Ellie killed hundreds of people to get to Abby then unable to kill her because revenge is bad? Well, she killed tons already, why not kill her too that’s the one responsible. This game sucks. Expand

Game is 10/10 to be honest. They showed a lot of cruelty and overall that revenge is bad option for both sides. Every person losing something important cause of that. Really hard story to understand but if you feel it so deeply and if you are focus enough you're able to face this amazing masterpiece in a good way.

This has been one of the best video game experience I got in the past 30 years.
    It's raw, it's upsetting, it's sad.
There's anger and confusion, every topic is spot on. The level design is supporting the whole plot and makes it even more intense.
Naughty Dog did an amazing job and I'm glad it took this long to come out. Product is finished and close to perfect.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don't pay attention to what most people are saying. The Last of us Part 2, is far from a bad game, much less a game with 3/4 notes.

I understand people's indignation about this game, but that's no reason to say the game is bad, because it's not. People confuse quality with personal taste and that's a big mistake.

In general, the thing that most revolted the fans was 3 aspects: The death of Joel; The character "Abby" and the fact that we have to play with it, and the end of the game. All of them understandable, but not justifiable from so much hate. The purpose of a game is to have fun with it, right? Generally speaking, yes, because what's the point of me doing something that doesn't bring me any benefit? But this game is different. This game brings a narrative that no other game has ever brought, it's a cold and depressing story, where it shows us that "Revenge is a game for fools".

Joel's death is something very shocking, yes, capable of being one of the saddest moments in the history of games, but we have to take into consideration that it's not the protagonism that will save a character's skin. If we didn't want Joel to die? Of course we would. But the last of us already has a whole narrative prepared and we can't change that unfortunately.

About the character Abby, many said they had no empathy with her during the whole game, even after they knew it was Joel who killed her father. And that's completely normal, and I realise it can be frustrating to play with her, but the game doesn't make you like the character. You don't have to just agree to understand. You can say that the fact that her father was one of the surgeons who operated on Ellie is cliché and a weak point in the game script. I completely disagree, "Abby" is important to show the 2 sides of the coin, 2 different points of view, 2 different lives. Abby is not the villain of the game and never will be, as well as Ellie, only each one has their motivations and their reasons to practice such acts during the game.

Finally the final, which I personally didn't think was brilliant or perfect either, but it's not bad either. The ending shows us that nothing Ellie did was worth it, Dina left her, she's now alone, far from home and completely aimless in life. She lost 2 fingers, which makes her lose Joel's only legacy which was playing guitar and also makes her not be able to draw anymore (something she was very good at and liked to do). It's a tragic and very sad ending but it gives us a moral lesson that is, never too much to say that we love a person, sometimes a simple hug would make all the difference. Instead we prefer to keep our feelings to ourselves and be proud. The fact that Ellie didn't kill Abby was because she wouldn't be happy about it, Abby's death wouldn't fill that void and stop her from having that trauma, which is done, is done. At least Ellie saw a little hope in Abby with Lev in the end, which she couldn't have with Joel, unfortunately, and that she didn't want to take from Abby.

In conclusion, I'm not saying this game is perfect in terms of history because it's not. The first game is still a thousand times superior. What's really perfect about this game is the gameplay itself and the innovations they've given since the first game. And just for that, the game already deserved more than 3 or 4 marks.

However once I steped in Abbys shoes I was not only blow away by the fact that they are a mirror of each other but also the fact that Naughty Dog made me side more with a character that was just introduced as the villa, over the main protagonist of the previous 2 games.

Abby as a character is strong both physically and morally but she is also very much so human, she has fears, impulses and failures but they all add up to make what I would consider a perfect character.

Loved the game loved the characters and loved the whole broken people in a broken would theme. 10/10

But for me, it is the best part, at first when we were given to control Abby. But this is the beauty that you've to journey along with the person you hate and see her emotions, see her getting peace because hate is not the solution (which she thought she will get after killing Joel. The peace she achieved and the peace Ellie achieved in the end were similar. For me, it was a beautiful story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a fan of the first game, this has to be the most disappointing sequel I have ever played.
This story uses the nostalgia of the first game to set an emotional tone for a story which has no relation to the first. Despite seeming to presume Joel was morally wrong at the end of the first game (which I do not!) the vaccine or cure has no impact on events, much like everything else from the first game. Instead, the new character of Abby, has the whole first game shoved as a simple backdrop to her motivations, and is desperately painted as a sympathetic character. Not only does her child murdering father save a zebra (awww) but she likes dogs too (awwwwwwww), but none of this is going to make anyone who liked Joel, think this justifies his murder. The murder, in trying to be gritty, misses key story telling and character opportunities, and signals the poorly thought out story which continues for far too long into this game. The story, a fumbled attempt at a 'revenge is bad' story, fails to understand human nature, basic philosophy (let alone theology) and so unwittingly spirals into a nihilistic mess, which by its very definition leaves you with nothing of true meaning at the end. The story of the first game had both strong male and female characters, the sequel discards both and finishes with nothing. Even Dina, introduced in the original's DLC, and seeming to have a strong role at the start of the sequel, is ploughed over by the Abby narrative, underdeveloped until she quietly leaves unseen. The game tries instead to make you care about a new cast of cliched and shallow characters. A pregnant fighter, an aquarium loving simp, faceless people who now all have names, but no personality are what we are given. It seems the apocalyptic world lacks its vikings, genghis khans, and bundys. That might be a bit dark for a game? Maybe, but that is precisely the tone this game thinks it is giving, but in truth shows a very shallow understanding of... well anything. The clickers, surely the best part, are thrown in from time to time, but are seperate from meaningful attachment to story.
The game play is disappointingly similar to the original, and the added stealth and jumping make very little difference (when people are cheering rope physics, alarm bells should ring!). The game does have its great moments and the graphics are very good (although overrated). These two points would give it a higher rating, 4/10 maybe, but what took away from my enjoyment of the game while playing let alone replayability, was the accusations online from journalists and developers themselves that I had not played the game, or was prejudice, or was a russian asset. Followed by the striking down of reviews online, in order to push the game, and the false advertising from the trailers, which had me pre-order (Do you think I'd let you do this alone?....yes, you're dead, I am doing the next 30 hours without you). The 10/10 reviews are ridiculous, and have signalled the death of gaming journalism . On top of that Niel Druckmann is just insufferable, and his narrow minded conceited tweets have not only put me off this game but also the original and any sequel planned. It will be interesting to see if metacritic remove this review or not. The reviews reflect a very angry fanbase, and lack of understanding, let alone sympathy, will be the downfall of Naughty Dog. Many of the fans fawning over it as a 10/10, I can only assume never understood the first game properly. Instead they are fair weather fans, applauding (or crying over) whatever new release they can join the club of, and tossing the old one to the side.
If Sony and Naughty Dog do not view this as a disastrous step for them, both in terms of the game, and how they have handled criticism/marketing, then their future will come crashing down as the destroy all the franchises they worked hard to build, and the old fans will cheer and the fair weather fans will already have moved on.
    0/10

Finally, play the guitar left handed you idiot, or play it 3 fingered like Django Reinhardt (The World Famous 3 fingered guitarist!!)!! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At first I was tempted to give TLOU part 2 a nine. But the themes and ambitious writing have forced me to contemplate and come to grips with the story it told. It is not a feel good story, but a story that is dark and harrowing, much like the world of the Last of Us. There are some parts of the story that do seem rushed or poorly put together however that does not take away from the experience as a whole. Playing as Abby forces the player to see the other side, which is something that is not often done in media. Too often we are presented a story with clearly established heroes and villains, completely ignoring the real world where everything is a shade of gray. No one person is all good, just as no one person is all bad. The gameplay is brutal and horrific, which is perfect for the game and can even be very challenging on higher difficulties. I didn't want Joel to die but if you make that happen, you should not put it at the start of the game. The pacing is poor and the story isn't necessary. Abby's story is actually okay, but it drags out forever and you should've had to play it before you know she kills Joel because the entire time you just want her to die. Nobody in this story is in the right, but you root for Ellie and Joel because of the first game. Parts of it felt very unnecessary. I couldn't form a real opinion on Jesse and Dina, because you barely get to know anything about their characters. As for the ending: this really made me disappointed. I think the game saves some grace with me if it ends with Ellie and Dina and the baby, and mix in a flashback like the one the game finished with. Instead, she leaves the life and family she has and goes off to kill Abby and when Ellie gets there, she doesn't even kill Abby. One thing that bothers me about games is when they lose the player with the timeline. I like flashbacks, but I was left with many questions. How long was Joel and Ellie in Jackson before Seattle? How did Ellie and Dina find a way to survive after Seattle? Did they go directly back to Jackson presumably? How long did they stay there? How long were they living in the house at the end of the game? How long was Ellie gone? What happened to Dina and the baby? I wish the game has a DLC (it probably wont) to maybe fix some of the plot holes, but I doubt it. I would really prefer if they didn't make a third game to try and correct it, but they probably will. They should leave it as it is- A fantastic first game, and a very, very disappointing sequel. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been a fan of TLOU for five years, and have been anticipating this sequel for just as long. I knew of the contents of the leaks, but never saw them and tried my best to not let it distort my view for the game. I trusted Naughty Dog would do better and deliver. Boy, was I wrong and disappointed.

First, I applaud ND for taking such huge risks with their storytelling this time around - that took guts - however, I cannot say that it paid off or was worth it, for me personally. Doing something risky does not make it brave or compelling, let alone a masterpiece. It's how you execute it that matters.

Visually, this game is a masterpiece. The graphics and audio, music, environment, cinematics, and acting was all Oscar worthy. I was fully immersed just by those pure aspects. Even the gameplay was fun, despite it being just a revamped updated version of TLOU1. My jaw was dropped from the visuals at the opening scene alone. Beautiful work by the developers and art team at ND.

However, I play TLOU for the story, and that is where this game fails. They take what you love about the first game, and rip that from you before your very eyes. For shock value, maybe, but mostly for impact - an impact that never comes with a pay off. I had other expectations for where this game would take us, and they definitely did not go that route. My views of the game constantly shifted while playing through it, until now where they have solidified. Joel and Ellie's relationship is revoked to just flashbacks. They very well could be told in present tense and work in the narrative just as well. The flashbacks were my only favorite parts of the game, since Joel and Ellie's conflicted relationship is treated as a subplot to make room for Abby's story.

Their plan to use Abby to build empathy with the player did not work for me one bit, as it didn't for most of the fans as well. She did not show any redeemable qualities or even have any likable aspects to her that made me cling to her as I did with Joel and Ellie. I found myself so bored while playing her and learning her story. Even her friends fell flat as characters and I did not care for them. Alice was an exception though :)

The pacing of the storyline was also messy compared to the first game. It's non linear, which muddles it along the way. Once you feel it's ending, it just keeps going on to a draining end with no pay off or real conclusion. This mostly was their intent to show how revenge works, but once again it falls flat. It feels as though the game is beating the player over the head constantly with the message of revenge, desperately trying to tie forgiveness in with it which frankly doesn't work for me. The constant use of plot devices to manipulate the player was so obvious I was laughing. Abby plays with dogs vs Ellie kills them, etc. After a while it all feels so inorganic and shallow, compared to the organic feeling the first game gives you in its narrative.

There are also plenty of plot holes, contrivances, and character inconsistencies that made the overall story feel weak. Does Abby not know or realize that Ellie is the immune girl from the hospital? Joel and Tommy conveniently plopping themselves into Abby's clutches, without even fighting back. What exactly makes Abby want to save Yara and Lev, besides her dreams?

The ending of the story just left me hollow and depressed, feeling like I wasted 20hrs playing for nothing. Feeling like my five years of investment in Joel and Ellie was for nothing. Everything felt so meaningless, and I was hurt and felt manipulated from the start. Maybe that's what they were going for, but not all players enjoy this type of treatment - to them OR the characters they deeply love and feel connected to. I love Joel and Ellie to death, and seeing where the both of them ended up by the story's conclusion wrecked me like hell, especially since it felt forced and for no reason despite for the sake of being bleak and nihilistic. I guess what the players are left feeling is what was intended, but how we got there was cheap.

I missed Joel throughout this journey, and wanted to see his and Ellie's relationship (which has always been the heart of TLOU) fleshed out even more as they dealt with their issue of "the lie" but it was taken from me, and you. The scene where he tells her the truth felt anti-climactic and rushed. The dialogue was blunt and weak despite their strong deliveries from Troy and Ashley.

Overall, I had fun with the gameplay and the visuals, but story wise I was hurt and let down. Five years of waiting only to be emotionally manipulated in a cheap fashion by ND. You should play it for yourself to form an opinion and enjoy the graphics, but only that. Don't play this game to escape from the darkness of our world, because it only adds to that. The light in the darkness from the first game has been switched and taken from you, only to leave you and the characters you love lost in the darkness.

The only thing The Last of Us Part 2 has going for it is the beautiful visuals and the decent game play. However, between the poor pacing of the story and the vanilla revenge story told through gaming's most controversial video game character of 2020, it fails to live up to anything else. The narrative was written poorly with the constant flashbacks and disappointingly, the main feature from the first game which was the bond of characters and the overarching story is completely chucked out of the window. Overall, Naughty Dog has produced something which seems to be taken straight out of a fan fiction and given life to it. They need to reevaluate where they go from here and hope that they can come back from this disaster of a game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was the old bait and switch! After completing the game, I was angry because I realized all of the trailers for the game made it seem like you were getting a Joel and Ellie game. There is even a part in the trailer where she looks at her bracelet and gets a Dina flashback, leading you to believe that she was seeking revenge for something that happened to Dina. I hated playing as Abby and that is about half of the game.

This is a story driven game. It doesn't matter that the environment and graphics are amazing, if it completely destroys everything you loved about the first game. It is a complete fan disservice. I will never again pre-order any games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was hard to play, and is obviously a controversial game. The first of which I though right to review. It constantly pushes you over and over. It even made it difficult to keep going at points; however this is what made it so compelling to me. I don't think i need to speak for the visuals as they were stunning, and if you liked the gameplay from the first game you will love this because it makes tons of subtle improvements that when going back to see how the other one played made me think "this is what combat evolution through games should be", subtle, but effective. Through my experience many of my expectations of the game were thrown around, and some of the story beats I didn't agree with entirely, but that's what makes this game stand out. It isn't just a linear journey like the first, this makes it less tight than the first and the main reason why it's an 8/10. My main issue was placement of flashbacks, and although they made some sense on location they didn't feel like they would have the same soft impact they had on me if some were located elsewhere. Also spoilers, but Abby's immediate bond with Yara and Lev definitely humanized her it also felt forced as when she heads back to where she left them she had only known them for like an hour or 2 when escaping the Seraphites. This is my main complaint with the game, but also the reason why I loved it as much as I did. I also saw a couple bugs here and there, none of them were game breaking, just annoying. The fact that I didn't agree with everything that happened and how flawed everyone was to the point where the video game had no true villain. What? A video game without a villain. Yes. Although much of what I'm saying may sound like I disliked the game that is not the case. I am highlighting issues I had with it because of how controversial it is and want my review to be as unbiased as possible because of my love for the first one. This game is also an interesting reflection on humanity and the lengths both sides go to prove their point. That is all, I secede all my time to the Waring factions of the comments. Expand

I would have preferred it if they made Ellie's goal to go out and find a cure for Joel after he was infected from spores, hunting down some scientist in Washington, mirroring what Joel did for Ellie in the first game, with Ellie more than willing to sacrifice her life for Joel, leading to the same discoveries that we get in flashbacks here.

This way, you could keep ALL the characters you've created and you have a goal for the player to be invested in.

Instead, we get none of that aspect again, in fact, it isn't even really an issue, except when Ellie's mask breaks, which only exists to cause drama with Dina. TLOU2 is all about revenge with half of the game following someone we will never care about because of what she did.

I'm sure many do legitimately love it but I cannot and I DID try to give it a fair shake.

If you're looking for a realistic looking game, you've picked the right one. The facial expressions are so well represented that even when the game is muted, you can know what the characters feel.

Gameplay : 9/10, the gameplay feels smooth. Very little glitches, the animations for the stealth kills and the crouch walk / prone are perfect. However, the shooting in these games don't feel right. I feel like these characters have never used a gun before. I do love using the bow and the crossbow.

Story : 7/10. I gave the story a 7/10 not because it is bad, but more because there are a few things that didn't satisfy me. Here are the few things I disliked:

    1. Not having a choice at the end of the game. Not being able to choose to continue the cycle of revenge (Lev going after Ellie after killing Abby) or stop it ( The current story ending ).

    2. The part of the story when we play Abby. Just before we play Abby, we are left with a cliffhanger. I felt the need to rush the part of Abby just to see what happens next instead of trying to understand this new character. Maybe if we had her parts at the same time like: Day 1, Ellie's story, then Day 1, Abby's story, then Ellie day 2, Abby day 2, and so on.

    3. Not enough Joel and Ellie. The first game was so magical with the adventure we had with Joel and Ellie. I would of loved more flashbacks as I find myself smiling ever time I see these two together.

The reason the final score is 7 while there are 2 scores that are 10 / 10 is because in these types of games, the story is what's the most important.

You may hate her for killing Joel, but let’s be honest: gEllie would do EXACTLY the same thing that done Abby. They are much alike.

The game is dark. It’s not the happy story everyone want. But that’s cool. Some people say that the story is pointless. But That’s what creators tried to show: that vengeance IS pointless. . That’s the main problem of the humanity in this story. To survive, people should unite and stop goddamn kill each other.

It is gut wrenching to write but the story is a mess! I am a such a fan of TLOU 1 but Neil Druckmann rolled the dice and forced his views onto this game instead of looking at what would be a good for the characters & everyone playing.

Something better written such as Dina dying or Joel being kidnapped for torture and evidently getting bit in escape, would of been beautiful irony as Joel

Something better written such as Dina dying or Joel being kidnapped for torture and evidently getting bit in escape, would of been beautiful irony as Joel is the reason for no cure?

Two opposite perceptions were a mistake as there are always good people on both sides of war. This has overall disregarded how it would impact the fans of TLOU 1, by building a sequel that is fit for the critics & those less invested in the existing characters. I think they should retell the story again, as I wonder how many people would choose a different fate for Joel & Abby if given the option to the player. Where there no red flags to avoid this line of story and provide a game that everyone would enjoy! Especially as Neil Druckmann cited “The game will be diverse and not for everyone”?

The story should have reflected what was shown & perceived in the trailer, this would of made a more fulfilling & wholesome game for all, instead of this being tainted with a 50/50 split due to the objectives to please a completely different crowd. Ellie would have been the key to seeing both sides of the story

But in the end the complete non-sense "Forceful" story makes this game as a total 0. Don't waste 25-30 hours of your life into this. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Look, ultimately I found this game to be disappointing. I know, the people that gave this game a 10/10 are going to dog on me and other people like me. People can be disappointed with a product and leave a negative or mixed review, just because they are bringing up valid criticism towards your game does not mean they are trolls or crybabies, they are just looking at the game through a different critical eye than what you are. For me, the story was the biggest let down. The new characters for the most part didn't land with me, and the ones that did are killed off and quickly forgotten, like they never even existed. Leading up to this game there was false advertising on the content of the game and the story, and obviously there's going to be backlash from that. On top of that if you brag about how you intended for your game to be divisive i think you forfeit your right to complain about half your audience not liking your game. This game literally takes the "revenge is bad" storyline and beats you over the head with it over and over again. Gamers are smarter than that, we know "revenge=bad"....we didn't wait 7 years for that. Correction, revenge is bad unless you're Abby. Abby gets her revenge and in my eyes gets away with it. Ellie loses EVERYTHING. It is also blatantly obvious that they go out of their way to force you to like Abby (Hey, look at how Abby plays with dogs, wow such a great person!). Finally, Metacritic, if you are going to be deleting negative or mixed reviews on your website that are clean genuine reviews then please do likewise with the 10/10 reviews that are either clearly copied/pasted, or are clearly made by bots. Otherwise you are just aiding in the score of this game being artificially inflated. However, I don't think you will do anything, as we all know that is a one way street, they will delete only the fake/suspect reviews that are negative (even just outright deleting legitimate negative reviews), but they will leave the fake 10/10 reviews alone. That is how it works. This game IS NOT a 10/10. It is also not a 0/10. Even though I believe this game is a 5/10, realistically it is probably around a 6/10 or a 7/10, at its absolute highest 8/10...but anymore than that and you're just pretending, I'm sorry. Expand

Guys, games aren't made for happy end, especially when it comes to a game about post-apocalyptic world, they are made to evoke feeling, doesn't matter which ones. In first game you experienced a touching in a good way story, so creator decided to impress you by something, you were not waiting for. Something, that would evoke hatred and anger, wanting a revenge. They wanted you to get mad as Ellie. This character is not destroyed, she simply was in agony. All her decisions weren't made as a stupid move for no reason, she simply didn't see anything except of revenge. So are you. You are not angry because of the bad game, you are angry because this what authors wanted. This game is not bad, it's a masterpiece, because it made you loose your mind, didn't it? I agree, that they could have not made Abbie so... Abbie. I hope Druckman is going to pay attention to this. But that is the only thing I agree with. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, so let me start by saying this isn’t the story that I wanted. It’s sad, morbid, depressing, and it sank my heart. But so did Bridge to Terabithia. Both stories are AMAZING. Sometimes a story reminds you that real life happens. Not every ends with a Rocky fist raised. Not every character is Obi Wan Kenobi or Tony Stark, leaving on his terms, saving the lives of those that matter, and embracing the void. Going gently into the goodnight. A hero’s death is a hopeless gesture. Real death...is always sudden no matter how it happens. Every death is Peter Parker in endgame. And thus it was with Joel. I’d spent a lot of time with Joel, across my 4-5 full playthroughs. He was near and dear to me. And in the opening hours, the first 3, he dies. Brutally. By a woman who appears as brutal and primal as the death she handed Joel. She’s a hulking figure, and this brute kills our Joel. And that is the moment many people saw prematurely, or simply turned the game off afterwards, that lead to this game being robbed of the acclaim it deserved. It’s tough to stomach, tough to accept, and on my second play through I skipped it entirely. So heavy are the emotions such a scene envokes. However, if you approach any death or sad situation in a story as “why did the writers do this,” instead of “why did these characters do this,” you will always be upset. The reaction to Joel’s death determines your review. The game shows you both sides, and yet so many people could care less about Abby because of what she did.The way they show Abby and build sympathy wasn’t perfect, the pacing was an issue—what with all almost the characters in her story having already died in Ellie’s—and some parts were just boring (I’m looking at you Awuarium flashback/Seattleday 1) however, it was good nonetheless. Those weak points are mostly covered by highs that I’ve rarely EVER seen in gaming. There are spectacles galore. One of the greatest moments in the game is one I hated the most going into. The theatre scene. You okay as Ellie earlier but then..you switch perspectives. THIS TIME YOU ARE ABBY. And I was PISSED. WHAT??? You’re gonna make me kill Ellie and Dina? No **** way. I let myself die quite a few times. And once I finally decided to just let the story move on—you begin to realize Ellie doesn’t die, and now you’re just trying to kill her. And boy is she hard to kill. What Naughty Dog did here is take all the conflict the characters have right now, and relay them through you in a way that just wouldn’t be possible if Ellie got to beat up on Abby. You’re mad at the devs, why would they do this to you, you feel betrayed, after you’ve already given them a second cha—ohhhh. That’s exactly how Abby feels. She spared Ellie’s life and in return Ellie killed everybody she had ever loved besides Lev. You’re worried about Ellie, just like Dina does, and when Dina jumps in all you’re hoping is that she doesn’t get hurt. And right before Abby can finish the deal, it’s Lev who stops her. It’s gone too far she echoes, just leave it. And Abby does, with a promise that a return means death and you the player definitely believe her. And Ellie tries to but she can’t. She’s haunted by everything that has happened to her. Dina has the baby, they’re living in a farm, life should be good. But in the middle of the night Ellie goes off to complete her quest...and doesn’t. What some people concluded was that this was the game trying to tell you that “blah blah murder bad” which shows a historical missing of the point. So as the fight ensues, while some were waiting to slit her throat, I just wanted it to be over. I felt bad for both characters, and I knew that no matter who left that water, they’d both die. And...neither do. It was...brilliant. Yet again, where some clocked out I fell in love. Ellie goes home to a house empty, which is the saddest thing imaginable. She did all that. But for what? She has nothing, or does she? What I noticed is Ellie didn’t have her bracelet when she went on this quest. It wasn’t on in her fight with Abby. But low and behold...there it is. Back on her wrist again. And she isn’t bruised. And she has no weapons. That means she MUST have gotten back to Dina, and we just didn’t get to see it, to leave us guessing. She isn’t surprised when she sees the house empty. She doesn’t cry out for anybody’s name, she doesn’t shed any tears. She knows the house is empty. She tries to play Joel’s guitar but...three fingers. It’s a sad symbolism of her finally letting go of Joel’s death, and maybe ending the cycle. For now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Garbage game. There are games that are great despite having bad story writing, such as Mirror's Edge, because the gameplay is so great. I will say that this game has ok gameplay, but why did we love the first game so much? We loved it for the excellent storytelling, the complexities of the characters, and the developing relationship between them. This game took everything we love about the first one and threw it in the toilet. Or rather, bashed it's brains in with a golfclub. Druckmann doesn't want to acknowledge this, instead chalking it up to people being misogynistic homophobes. What a joke. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Naughty Dog raises the bar once again. It's not just the best narrative-driven videogame you can play right now, but one of the best pieces of media out there in general. This game is important. A true gift to this industry.

I have been waiting for 7 years for this game and in the end i'm heartbroken and sad. it's not about what happened it's about how it happened which was done very poorly.

Amazing game. The museum and aquarium sets alone are worthy of an entire game. Just beautifully done.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story: While this game's story doesn't live up to the original, a feat that honestly isn't possible, it still is extremely strong. The main issue being that we are given too many character arcs to be able to empathize with all at once. By the end of the characters' journeys, and witnessing the destruction they have cause I was left feeling empty, but not in a bad way. I do not understand the negative reviews one bit, the characters people dislike are actually the strong point of the game and are morally superior to the characters from the original. There is one horrible love triangle and adult scene that shouldn't have been included and felt entirely like a trope.

Gameplay: Once I got the hang of the aggressive stealth combat, I felt this game was top tier. It's a giant step up from the previous game and many other AAA stealth games I've played. The pacing is a bit off due to all the scavenging and there are a few too many encounters that don't service the story, but I'd still give it a 9 or 10/10

    Graphics/Musical Score: 10/10 enough said.

It's not perfect, and the story structure is a bit off, but all the characters are great and I loved this game.

One of the best games this decade! Superb graphics, very good game audio and music and an academy award winning story. The story has excellent pacing and characters are very deep!

Absolutely no regrets buying this game! Very good sequel to TLOU1!

Beautiful level design, very re-playable level design with endless of ways to go through especially with the human enemies. It's so fun in the few areas where there's a mix of undead and human enemies. Sometimes I would go guns a blaze, fully stealth or a mix of both. Or sow chaos by unleashing the undead and watching how the humans fair. There's so many different nooks and crannies to hide and pivot from, there are endless different routes to complete each "level". Traveling across Seattle is breathtaking at times the graphics even on PS4 slim are amazing.

The story is heart wrenching, however...In my mind a bit clique and predictable...I'm a little lost myself as to why it is so surprising or disappointing to these negative reviewers. My English school teacher always defined successful art as something that draws emotion from the observer, predictable plot or not for me this game did this in spades. I do not really identify with either main character but they do a great job giving you a look inside their motives and emotions. Your perceptive on the characters shifts multiple times throughout the story, which I found really interesting reflecting on the game after I finished.

I would really caution you to not believe these people raging on here....the comparisons to the the Last Jedi are honestly hilarious to me. I despise the plot choices in the Last Jedi, so many of them pointless but I loved this game. Were they the plot choices I would have made? Probably not. Were they predictable at times? Yup. But were they interesting and thought provoking at times? Absolutely!

Half of these these reviews were written before the game was even released. Pros: Overall this was an extremely cinematic game, my favorite bits are really just navigating through the city and admiring the amazing views. Also the level design was top notch, I loved finding all sorts of creative ways to take down in each area. Cons: Predictable Plot. I don't really identify with either the characters at all and by the end I found Ellie a little annoying.

Overall 9/10 for me. Don't believe these jokers, it's a fantastic game. Worth your time.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
