This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was also one of the players who thoroughly enjoyed the first game. After waiting 6 years for the sequel, I cannot emphasise how disappointed I was. Killing Joel was a huge disrespect to his character and does not make any logical sense. In the first game, he could sense an ambush from a mile away and in this game, he must have become retarded as he follows a group of strangers and identifies himself. The characters are what made me fall in love with the first game personally and to see Joel die in such an unsatisfying way kills me. Apart from Joel, Ellie does not grow in any meaningful way in the second game either. She is just mindlessly driven for blood and in the end, she kills

    everyone

except the one person who was soley responsible for Joel's death. (Abby). In addition to that, the game does not offer the experience of progression and the stories between the two characters are so haphazardly arranged, going back and forth that there is no sense of going forward and progressing. I do not mind if the characters are lesbian or transgender but to have a random character appear out of nowhere and kill one of the most beloved characters...

The positive reviews are people that had no sense of attachment to the original title. This whole game is just a message that revenge is bad. The graphics, the mechanics and audio are all beyond fantastic but it's a story game and Naughty Dog **** up on the story. Save your money do not buy this game.

I loved this game. The story was challenging, and all the hate the game is getting I believe is unwarranted, however I get if people don't like the story. Hating on the devs or actors for the story is just dumb. The story causes you to feel one way, but then works to give you a reason to reevaluate those feelings, which I think is utterly genius

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has amazing graphics and pretty good gameplay, however the most important aspect of this game is the storyline, which unfortunately has been butchered and slaughtered in the most inhumane way possible.

Just a few hours into the game the protagonist is thrown away into a pile of trash, like an obsolete 1.44mb floppy disk. This decision was made not only because of the clearly sexist and biased political views of the story writers but also very possibly because their imagination was insufficient to live up to the story masterpiece that was in the first game.

So what do you do when you have a severe lack of imagination and lack of self confidence into living up to the expectations?
You chicken out and kill the most important character of the game so you can make new ones, this way nobody will be able to call you out for your failure to do a proper sequel to the game.
Unfortunately, this was so poorly executed that it makes story lines from films such as GhostBusters 2016 sound like the most innovative and creative writing you've ever seen.

If you are a true TLOU fan, then this game is not for you as you will find it a complete failure story-wise.
If you are a hardcore fan of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, then you will find many fingerprints of those 2 in this game, so it should have some sort of appeal to you.

You may think that these are harsh words, but there are simply to many examples in game where you can find the storyline killing the entire game atmosphere, i'm not even going to dwell into the clear political agendas that this entire game is all about, lets pretend that those issues dont exist and just consider the story as a whole instead.

    The Good
In the first game you get to play as Joel daughter, then Joel and then Ellie finding a unique storyline about family and hope in the most dificult and improbable scenarios of a persons life.

In TLOU2, most of Ellie & Joel memory flashbacks are heartwarming, even if predictable and expected, they get to you, frankly these memories were so good that if you sold the game and expanded solely on these memories the entire time it would have worked much better than this actual storyline, it would also allow you to evolve the main story of this game later in TLOU III explaining to the players how JOEL died. That would probably work so much better than this as the whole game is constantly spamming you with flashbacks making it annoying very quickly.

    The Bad
In this game despite so many content being about Joel and Ellie relationship, you don't ever get to play as Joel, instead you play as Ellie and Joel murderer (not skippable).
You get Family Guy type of flashbacks, which becomes annoying very quickly, by the time you're 50% into the game, you're already frustrated with the annoying interruptions from the main game, you are then forced to switch characters from the new protagonist to the antagonist, again, at the worst moment in time possible.
As if it was not enough that you have to play as Joel killer and to fight and almost kill Ellie, you then get another bunch of annoying flashbacks from the antagonist life, the idea here was to allow the player to somehow feel some empathy for the antagonist, however, this character story line is so boring and long, you just cant stop thinking about the main game.
Everytime i was forced to play with Abby i couldnt help to feel a severe lack of interest into the game and i had to almost force myself to keep going, promising myself the rest of the game story could be better.

Although the game tries to imply that Abby is human too and has her own problems, the story is too flawed and too generic to transmit this kind of sentiment to the player.

The rest of the story is more or less the same, bland and generic, you really dont feel any empathy towards any of the game characters dying, even when Joel brother was almost killed was a "meh" moment and his comeback a total cliche.

    The Ugly
You might think that im done with the negative side of the story but wait! Theres more! You end up sacrificing the life of your friends, permanently crippling Joel brother, murdering lots and lots of Abbys "friends" just so you can get into a final fight with her and loosing 2 fingers, at the end of the fight, when you're drowning her for good, you give up and let her go because somehow you're starting to think that there is too much killing in this world, so the perfect logical conclusion is you kill everyone except the murderer of Joel, the hole in this plot is so big not even a blue star could cover it.

In the end its obvious why the story is such a disaster. ND programmers & artists did an amazing job, since the game graphics and gameplay are so good that this generic, bland and poorly written storyline is an insult to all the years wasted programming, designing and modelling this game. Neil Druckmann had 1 job and failed miserably at it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't like to chime in on these things. I like hearing alternative perspectives to my own. But I do think there are many points to make here. So I couldn't help making them.

Firstly, Abby doesn't show a hint of remorse throughout the game, except for one brief moment that seemed pivotal to the rest of the game. There was no remorse while killing Joel, none while she's talking about the scars, she isn't even willing to entertain the notion that any world view contrary to her own could have its merits - this made her character seem far too unrealistic. I understand the point about the circle of violence, but even while you're in the thick of this circle of violence, a realistic character should, and would, consider at least briefly, that their actions may be going too far. This was the facet that the authors totally failed to explore for Abby. You're left thinking, _why is she even doing this_? I think this is at the core of why the author's are being called lazy writers so frequently.

However, on the flip side, it seems implausible that a character that displays totally sociopathic tendencies throughout the game, would suddenly change the way they behave towards these children after leaving them for dead. Why did her time with Owen cause her to suddenly remember that she'd left the kids to die. They saved her life, but so had Joel! Why was she so nonchalant about killing Joel for so long if he had saved her life too?

There was no exploration of "would my dad want me to kill Joel", "was killing Joel the right thing to do", or anything of the sort. Even when hesitation is displayed by other characters, she wishes she could have been even more brutal. This doesn't fit, and it doesn't make sense!

But my biggest criticism of this game isn't even about the story that was told. On the front of the game, was the title "the last of us", the last game was about a post apocalyptic world where a deadly infection had gripped the world. Ultimately, people loved this game because of the personal relationships that had been formed, despite the peril that the world faced. The greatest parts of the game for me, were the parts where you discovered how the world descended into chaos, through memories left by the old world. It was about trying to see how the world could get itself free from that chaos. We felt betrayed at the end of the last game too, because we wanted the world saved, but we weren't willing to give Ellie up to save it!

This story on the other hand, was a classic revenge tale! This tale could have been told in any world, and I think for most fans, the disappointment stems from "it didn't have to be _THIS_ world"! The world constructed by the authors of the previous game had so many facets that could have been further explored, but instead, we got (what I believe to be) a reasonably generic revenge story.

Sure, both sides had their reasons for revenge, but that misses the point, this game is about the apocalypse caused by a deadly disease. At what point did the disease have any level of salience in this game? Ellie wanting her life to mean something felt like an after thought. The reasons for Ellie and Joel's patchy relationship could have been substituted for literally anything else. The reason Joel killed Abby's dad could have also been substituted for literally anything else, and I could continue to go on here.

I agree that the characters developed here. I agree that the story was fine (I hesitate to call it "good"). But I'm upset because I don't think it belonged in the world of the last of us. Most of the criticisms that the developers are facing essentially stem from that simple fact. This game, and this story had a right to exist, but they should not have existed in the world of the last of us. That is ultimately how I feel about this game.

I appreciate you reading this far if you made it here, writing this just felt like something I needed to do.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished this. It did not live up to the first game but for me its not as far off as a lot of people are saying.
The story tries hard to get you to sympathies with both protagonists but ends up just making you not really feeling anything for either of them. By the end you're just pushing the button because the game wont let you progress until you do, specifically the final showdown.
Story aside the gameplay is pretty good. I quite enjoyed the many different ways to approach the fights. You can sneak through and stealth kill everyone or you can run through guns blazing (at least until you run out of ammo).
One issue I did have was with searching for crafting items. Becomes very repetitive to open draws and cupboards to find enough supplies to make the items you need. At the same time this makes the game feel more realistic in the post-apocalyptic world so I can't complain too much.

    And she did.

The Last of Us Part II is a heart breaking, emotional roller coaster of a story that pulls on your heartstrings at every available opportunity. The game play is an improvement in every way over the first and is some of the smoothest you’ll find out there. The hide and seek combat system is some of the most fun I’ve ever had and the in most cases the fights take place in such large areas there are many ways to take on each encounter. The crafting system lets you improve the guns in your inventory at workbenches scattered around the maps and make useful tools, such as health kits and molotov cocktails, on the fly. The kills can be incredibly gory, and it seems to venture a little too far into murder porn at times. However, I believe it’s done intentionally. The gruesome deaths, shotgun blasts eviscerating opponents, the horrifying screams as WLF soldier burns to death, the way dismemberment happens when someone triggers a mine, the cries that echo through the battlefields as enemies find the bodies of their dead companions, all add to the weight of the action of killing. It’s heavy and weighs on the characters and the player, I had to put the controller down a few times after some of the cutscene deaths and a few of the more graphic close-up fights. But you’re killing people, and the game wants you to know that.

All that said, the game is beautiful. Seattle is full of new life in this post-apocalyptic world. Lush plant life and rivers cut through the city and it’s quite easy to get lost in the scenery. Sunlight is used to great effect as you explore derelict buildings, boats and the landmarks of Seattle. Rain, snow and thunderstorms are used beautifully to heighten tension and paint gorgeous backdrops and environments in and out of the city. Luckily, there is a photo mode, and one of the better ones out there, to help capture the scenes you want to save. The animators did a fantastic job with each and every character and the game has some of the best voice work in video games to date. I’m actually very upset Ashley Johnson can’t get nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Ellie.

Now onto the story, this oh so controversial thing that has fans, wrongly, in an uproar. But why? Most don’t even know what they’re mad about because they haven’t bothered playing it. So how is the story really? Simply put, it’s a masterpiece. It’s as engaging as it’s studio predecessor, Uncharted 4, and holds up against the likes of God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn. The game is lengthy and weighty and takes a lot of time setting the stage and exploring the characters. The story is one of revenge and what happens when the people who matter most to us get violently ripped away. It uses a dual narrative to draw comparisons as you play as both Ellie on her revenge quest and Abby, Joel’s killer. Ellie’s mission for revenge tugs on your heart strings as she refuses to listen to reason and throws herself and her friends into constant danger trying to take out the person who took what mattered most to her. Then, very suddenly, you are transitioned to Abby’s perspective and story as the clock is moved back and you experience Seattle over the same 3 days you did with Ellie on her hunt. Abby is a hardened killer whose story takes her on journey to regain some of the humanity lost to her as she protects two innocent children caught in a war between the WLF, Washington Liberation Front, or Wolves, a para-military group that took over Seattle and the Scars, or Seraphites as they call themselves, a group of religious fanatics who follow the teachings of The Prophet. A woman who saved many people in the early days of the apocalypse and was killed by the WLF. Abby is not an easy character to like, in fact one of her companions even points out over and over how bad a person she really is. But you aren’t given her perspective to force you to like her. It’s important to the whole story. How revenge is cycle. How killing people even for noble or righteous reasons only leads to more suffering. Connecting the dots between the two stories as you play is thrilling and fun and definitely warrants a second playthrough just to see all the pieces you might have missed. A character encountered as Ellie gets further explored and given life from Abby’s perspective. The game makes you think through each character’s decisions as you realize the full scope actions have, actions you won’t always agree with but because of how well the characters are set up you always eventually understand. The game overall, like the first, is about relationships and the lengths we go to for the ones we love. Not only is it the perfect follow up to the first game but it holds the spirit and ideals explored in the first very close while expanding on and adding too them.

The only thing I didn’t like about it was how it made me feel. It is a very difficult game to play because it is so powerful and depressing. From Joel’s brutal death to the journey that follows, there are so many terrible decisions made by the main characters, so much pain, death, anger, and hatred that I found the game very difficult to play at times. But what happened was the realization that no other game I’ve ever played had made me feel so many things and challenged my views/beliefs on so many topics. I finished the game a week ago and have not stopped thinking about it since. It’s that powerful. Kudos to the Naughty Dog team for taking such a huge gamble with the 2nd installment of perhaps the most beloved game/IP of the past decade. I didn’t like feeling all of those things (who enjoys feeling depressed?), and I play video games b/c they’re fun, but this game is still too good and too powerful to ignore. I highly recommend it to anyone, but just be prepared for an emotional journey unlike any you’ve ever experienced. Expand

There is unnecessary hate surrounding this game but I feel there is also too much praise for a game that has clear flaws. The Last of Us Part 2 suffers with a lack of focus and introduces too many characters with little time with each to actually learn or care about. The first game showed that it took a full game to invest in two characters, and this one tries to develop character investment within the main story with at least nine characters and fails to establish that with the exception of maybe one character. Now of course, this is just my opinion and credit where credit is due, the performances, motion capture, animation and visually fidelity of this game are incredible and deserve praise. But for me the environmental and creature sound is the star of this game. The sound engineers deserve the highest praise for elevating the horror and making the locations of the game feel alive. As a conclusion I do think it is a game worth experiencing but I would recommend lowering expectations if you are a fan of the first game. I hope Naughty Dog don’t disregard all criticism for the game as mindless hate as I believe there is one criticism from many reviews that I have to agree with and that is; the game is too long. Quality over quantity is what Naughty Dog has always delivered, until now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ellie hates Joel because He killed the cicadas at the end of the first part. Abby hates Joel, because he killed the father of the surgeon. Now Ellie hates Abby. You have understood that violence begets violence. Neil Drakman says that Joel is to blame, but if you remember the end of the first part, there Ellie was unconscious after a massacre with infected and cicadas come, which knock out Joel, put Ellie on the table and want to operate. Again, Neil Drakman says that only Abby's father could have made the medicine, but he died. If you remember the agreement between Joel and Marlin that he takes Ellie to the hospital, and they give him weapons, but as soon as he came to the hospital, the cicadas were ready to kill him, but Marlin intervened and he was told that he would be released, without guns of course. The cicadas could explain everything, give Ellie a choice.. But all the blood is from the cicadas.
Destroyed as for me the normal ending of the first part, the fact that Ellie found out the truth in the hospital, was depressed and then was an ordinary person, who did not know that she was imunna. But then Joel plays Golf with Abby, realizes that he was still dear to her and goes to kill Abby's friends. In the first part, Tommy was a very good character and kind, but in the second part, he is the complete opposite, promises Ellie that they will go together to take revenge, but secretly leaves. The plot is so straightforward - she remembers everyone in the room and slowly kills everyone and everything is so simple that no new name will appear among her enemies. Then comes the third day when Abby is aiming at Ellie and the game is running out of time and we are already behind Abby. Dogs and Cultists howl at each other, and why ? Because Abby doesn't care what or why and just ignores it. She doesn't care that the dogs torture the cultists, she doesn't care that the Cultists kill the dogs, and so it looks ridiculous that the Renegade Cultists save her and she gets so attached to them that she kills the dogs, but the dogs have saved her life more than once. Why she decided to throw the dogs, where there is everything and go with these cultists-and did not explain normally. She doesn't even try to understand their feelings, they don't mean any harm, and Abby goes and cuts them all out. She is loyal to her Cicada friends, but she also wanted to kill Denny. We don't know much about Abby's friends. Three are killed off-screen, Nora in a couple of frames, Leah too, and Manny is just a cable. What do they have in common, why are they loyal to Abby ? Vaguely. Abby has no character, no motivation, no conflation while playing for her. All Abby's desires and conflicts end during the prologue, when she played Golf with Joel. There is a love triangle between Abby, Mel and Owen, but until the evening of the third day, it is not connected with the events that are happening at all. Krch for 10 hours of playing for Abby is terrible because it is very, very boring.. Abby does not kill Ellie and says that she got out of her eyes, but Ellie still finds Abby in trouble and will go to battle, win, forgive and let go on all four sides.
It would be better if the first part was the last game on tlou.

Conclusão: The Last of Us 2 é uma obra-prima.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2 is a mess of a game. The gameplay itself is extremely dated and doesn't build upon the first games mechanics, making them feel stagnant in comparison. The story however, is worse. I dont hold any grudges to the game's developers or writers, but the story is just horrendous. First off they killed off a fan favourite character in a very unceremonious way, almost abandoning what his character was built on. Second they force you to play as a new character who's only "connection" to the story is killing joel. The whole motivation of ellie's development was revenge on abby for removing her father figure, the same way joel removed her own father. But the whole game is a bait and switch. Nothing comes out of the story other than the death of a beloved character, the mutilation of the character we protected throughout the first game and nothing else. It was all for nothing, no pay off, no satisfaction of killing a character who essentially tormented ellie, all for nothing. I hated this game, I hated playing it, the seraphites hardly show up, despite the trailers implying that they had a large role to play. And the infected take a back seat.
I wasnt expecting joel to survive to the end of the game. But they proved how little they cared about the characters and the fans with this atrociously written, virtue signalling game. All in all?
    I hated it.

Maybe, the only flaw this game has is that at some point it feels a bit streched, but i didn't care at all because the combat section is great, the crafting is improved and i was busy taking all collectibles anyway, so yes a bit streched but i'll live with that.

And it's not a "bad" ending, it's just an ending that you dind't like. I'm wondering in which way you'd expect Joel to die,

I'm wondering in which way you'd expect Joel to die, just in a simple combat or by accident, impaled like in the first game? ND decided to do it in grand style, that certainly will be remembered in the industry.

Finale was also anticlimax, feature no "real" morel message to the players/viewers. Some stuff was just unnecessarily for the story. This story is also heavily dependent on political views, specially about women and trans. In the first game, didn't have any kill able female characters (which is interesting).

Overall this game is "NOT GAME OF THE YEAR", weird decision. It's like they were making a perfect pancake and a customer asked Nutella inside a pancake. Obviously you get confused, but you don’t want to upset customer. In the end your pancake is horrible, but you made your best effort to satisfy the customer.

It's a good game, but very bad writing, hope the writers realize how to write a story without being dependent on society moral and listen to their own hearts and how they feel like story should go.

It's because she still doesn't understand that revenge only screwed her up, but Abby already realized that her search for revenge to kill Joel, killed all of her friends, and that revenge didn't bring anything, but Eliie hasn't realized it yet , I believe that those who didn’t understand the game and gave 4 ~ 5 really didn’t think straight, I think it could be something else, but no problem, TLOUS 2 is a game about love, not revenge, what proves this is that Abby doesn’t wanted to continue revenge, for having someone like Lev, who is important to her. I'm gonna try an elaborate without spoiling it, for me there is a certain dislikeable character that is the main focus for a third of the game, given the first half the game doesn't portray this character in a good light, it's an annoying and tedious diversion from the main plot, maybe if these bits were played 1st before revealling what happens arround hour 2, it would be more enjoyable to play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is just as much Abby’s story as it is Ellie’s and that would be perfectly fine if I liked the character. So the game is for the most part a revenge story, during the very first chapter of the game Joel is literally beaten to death by Abby a former firefly while Ellie is forced to watch, thus all the interactions between Joel and Ellie are done through flashbacks. As a fan of the original game this is incredibly disappointing. Okay so I already knew from the first game that the people Joel and Ellie were killing were just like them in the sense that they were just trying to survive and they too had loved ones they were trying to protect this isn’t new information to me, so I really dislike that now they’re deciding to show the Firefly’s side and portray Ellie and Joel as the villains after they got me to care so much about them in the original. As for all the new characters that are introduced I just don’t care about any of them especially Abby so being forced to play as her for half of the game just isn’t fun. I don’t even like Abby’s back story I mean I know it would have been really predictable if it was somebody close to Marlene that sought revenge on Joel but the daughter of a random NPC from the first game is the one that vows revenge on Joel, I mean I didn’t even so much as know the lead surgeons name and yet his daughter is the one that kills Joel and is now the main playable character in the game. If they wanted me to care about Abby at all then maybe they should have told her story in chronological order maybe then I would have developed sympathy for her up until the point that she kills Joel but to have her just outright kill Joel from the onset with no explanation what so ever made it very difficult to sympathize with her. It all finally comes to an end with a fist fight between Abby and Ellie where Ellie decides at the very last minute to not kill Abby and lets her go even though she was relentless in killing every other person responsible for Joel’s death Abby is the only one she decides not to kill, if you believe Ellie would find forgiveness for Abby in the very moments that she’s trying to drown her then fine but I’m on the fence. Honestly I don’t think any of the ideas in this game are bad I just think they were executed poorly and if I had to rate this game from 1 to 10 I’d give it a 7. Almost everything about this game is amazing the gameplay, the graphics, the music the only real shortcoming is the story which is kind of ironic considering the story is what elevated the first game to be a masterpiece, out of all the things I imagined could go wrong with this sequel the story was the last place I thought Naughty Dog would drop the ball but there it is. The Last of Us Part II has a real problem telling a story. The plot is mangled and characters do things extremely out of character that make no sense when considering the first game's plot. It's heartbreaking to see such a legacy be thrown away like this. You can tell the writers sat down and and really focused on characters instead of a story. They decided to write this story based around characters they really wanted to broadcast, as opposed to writing the characters that fit the story, into the story they wanted to tell. The game suffers immensely because of this and likely won't be a patch to fix it. At this point, I'm just hoping not to see a third.

Also, isn't it a bit odd reviewers could only talk about a small portion of the game? Almost like they're hiding something in the latter half? That 95 is definitely not truthful. I think the voices of the actual fan base here are a lot more important than those of reviewers who weren't even allowed a full game. This game is equivalent to being spit on and shouldn't even have the last of us title attached to it.

The graphics are pretty though.. whoopdie doo, I suppose. And the gameplay mildly expanded upon, but more or less stuck in the last gen. But in a game so heavily revered for its story, I don't think these aspects are the ones everyone is worried about meeting their expectations. The story is such a mangled mess, I can't give it anything higher than a 3. In a game so heavily dependent on story to really come together, it's like a macaroni painting without the glue.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really didn't enjoy the 2nd half of the game. I just couldn't sympathize with Abby at all, even though the game tried really hard to get me to like her. And it's not like I can't like someone who does kill one of fav. characters. In other TV shows and games I could not forgive them but I got to like them, but not with Abby. I went in to the game thinking there is no way I won't like the game. I thought all the hate was just from butthurt people who didn't want that Joel died or that ellie is lesbian.. But I really didn't enjoy my time with the game.
It's not just the fact that I played as Abby but also that they teased the climax and then made me play 10 hours only thinking about what would happen. I think if they would have made me switch the characters more often like 2 times a day and changed the story so it would still make sense I could have really enjoyed it. But that just wasn't the case. And games for me are not all about enjoyment but it just dragged on and on.. And I could only think about ending the game.
So I really thinking a few small changes (not the story) could have made me like Abby much more and so made me more invested in the story. For example I didn't give a fluff about lev or his sister or anyone who was with abby. There are also a few things that I can't really believe would have really happened the way they did like when we get to play as Abby chase down ellie through the curtain. Ellie could have just taken her shotgun and wait for Abby to open the door and shoot her in the knee but I can live with these mistakes. Im just really sad I couldn't enjoy the game that much.)(I also need to say that I played hellblade senua sacrifice and I felt really uncomfortable and needed to stop many times playing it because it made me feel sick in my head but even though the ending also was really sad I could enjoy it much more than tlou2.) Oh and also the other aspects of the game are top notch. Graphics, sound, music, acting, and the world. The game play got pretty boring after 20 hours. So in the end I wouldn't say the story was bad it was just in a unfortunate order. I don't know if it really only deserves a 3/10 but just really didn't enjoy it so...

I never liked that Joel chose Ellie over the human race so I totally understood Abby's rage but she kept it in check and just killed the guy she wanted to kill. Ellie on the other hand went after anyone and everyone. IMO Ellie was the most bloodthirsty character in the game. My wife and I really liked the story. It was gut wrenching at almost every turn but we got the motivations behind both Ellie and Abby.

I think Abby's story line was lost on many just because they couldn't get over what she did which, if you ask me, plays right into NaughtyDogs theme. Rather than growing to understand someone and learning to forgive(Ellie even says she understands why Abby did it) some players feel they cannot and just let the cycle of hate fester on within themselves. I for one think people gave this game an unfair chance. It was quite unique from anything I've played in a long time. While it was extremely brutal and gut wrenching at times I think they did their job well. 9 outta 10 from me.

A story that attacks your emotion with no regard for convention or expectation. It lives in all its chaotic yet consistent glory. It tries not to be a game that was created, but a world that exists. I was lost in it for a week.

Beats the first game on every level apart from pacing. A wonderful story that builds on and surpasses the first that needs to be played.

Filled with plot conveniences, underdeveloped characters, and about as subtle as a sledgehammer. The admittedly fun gameplay can't carry this miserable narrative for the game's excessive run time.

    Except...
The storyline keeps going back and forward.. and changing characters
In my opinion it would be better if it was more linear as the first was.
And hate the fact that joel was killed and the ending disapointed me..

Terrible story full of plot holes, boring generic revenge plot. Characters are all unlikeable and make stupid decisions that make no sense. Over the top violence for no reason other than to make you feel bad for something the game forces you to do, the game seems to actively hate and punish you for playing it.
The only redeeming quality is the graphics. The writing is absolutely terrible

Expand

After playing through this – I dare say 'masterpiece' – it just confirms, for me, that a large portion of the 30.000 plus negative reviews are most likely from transphobic and homophobic fanboys. This game is ground braking, innovative in it's cast and the storytelling is at its finest, purest and rawest!

Gameplay: 9,5/10 *Would have loved to see a lil' more zombie action at times*

Last of US 1 was a great, great game.

Last of Us 2 not only added nothing to the development of the lore or game-play, it took away all the positive connection I had with the characters from the first game. I would rather the game did not get made. Forget the money or the time I spent, Neil destroyed what was once timeless and memorable.

    Was there any positive? Yes.

All the scenes where Joel and Ellie conversed, even when they were arguing.

And of course, the museum scene, that almost made the game worth it.

    But not quite.

1 for the great Joel and Ellie scenes.
    1 for the amazing graphics.
1 for the occasional great level design.

It was quite the journey that really makes for an emotionally challenging experience. On my second playthrough now and loving all the details to pick up on with hindsight now in hand. Visually and aesthetically stunning in every possible way.

Anyone who claims that the game is full of "lazy writing" or that the game "ruins the original and it's characters" really knows **** all about writing and story telling. It's almost like they weren't paying attention in the first game. I replayed the first game right before part II came out, just to make sure I wouldn't be blinded by nostalgia.

The first game was all about subverting expectations ( subverting the generic save the world from the apocalypse plot) and part II follows suit and really pushes the medium forward even more than the first one. The first game was just as depressing as the second. The first game had just as much violence as the first game. The first game portrayed the enemy factions as grey and sometimes even sympathetic as well. And part II has just as many endearing moments and lovable characters as the first.

Even if the story was trash (it really isn't) the game would still not be a 0/10. Only unplayable glitchy messes, which can't get past their opening menu are a 0/10. The gameplay is some of the best stealth I've ever played, the game looks drop dead gorgeous, the soundtrack is amazing and the game runs very smoothly.

Solid 10/10 for me. Don't let the 0/10 reviews scare you off from playing the game.

Beautiful game but instead of the quality writing that you might be accustomed to from the first game you get shock factor as a replacement.

Where the first game was set in a bleak world with jaded characters there were often glimpses of humanity and hope that would break through and remind you what the characters were fighting for, this game is just relentlessly bleak with no likable

I did not find the game very engaging, I do enjoy the game play, scrounging for bullets and weapons and barely making it through encounters but there are basically no innovations from the last game. This would be okay if the story was on par but since it was not I found myself losing interest way before I reached the ending.

I'll not give it blatantly 0 or 1, but believe me - critics are overrated this game. The Last of Us and Left Behind expansion was a shooter game with decent zombie outbreak theme. It wasn't a masterpiece, unlike most of the people says - the tie between Joel and Ellie developed slowlyI'll not give it blatantly 0 or 1, but believe me - critics are overrated this game. The Last of Us and Left Behind expansion was a shooter game with decent zombie outbreak theme. There is tons of games out there with that, but what this game did better than those was story telling. It wasn't a masterpiece, unlike most of the people says - the tie between Joel and Ellie developed slowly and once it should be strengthened, it happened instantly. Nothing can be perfect, I know but a masterpiece shouldn't have problems like that - especially when it's main focus is story telling. Aside that, game was just a shooter, with optional stealth if you want. Believe me, there is tons of games does that part even better. There was puzzles, and they were boring because set on moving a platform a lot.

I really tried to avoid spoilers even with the first game, so here's what's about the Part II. Storytelling is awful. Only good thing I say about story is how it's presented and some of the characters are lovable. Aside from that, there is tons of plot-holes, unnatural behaviours, lazy writing and inconsistency. Once you completely finish the game, I think developers want you have a bitter taste but hell, you get a stale taste and say why those people done this? and most likely why critics gave this 10/10? I'll not give any spoilers, but imagine whole story development and character's life choices doesn't even matter in the end. Unlike Part II, the whole story development was key point in the finale of the first game.

Gameplay is almost identical, with smooth improvements and better AI. Sound design? Awesome. Musics, decent enough. Graphics? I expect more tbh, especially from a Sony Exclusive game.

Let's talk about politics, game isn't fully loaded with LGBTQ+ but sometimes the privileges given on "that one" character will bore you. Unlike most of the other people, I played Left Behind and I know Ellie is lesbian. I'm a crossdresser as well, so consider it came from a "non-binary". The problem isn't representing it, the problem is making one character overrated, who represents that culture.

Well, seems like the score I give is only and ONLY for game engineering and like I've said it's not something truly unique. If the main focus is story of the game, it should impact scoring more than other games. 4/5 is for simple, enjoyable gameplay and good voice design. Musics and graphics are not that much of good so they doesn't impact rating for good or bad. Story and character development - literally zero/5.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
