One of the best games. Visually stunning, great character animation. Sound and music is great too. Story could be better, but it isnt as bad as some are saying. Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to part 3 already! Thank u Naughty Dog.

Story very focused on relationships, no depth, the script tries to empathize with characters very desperately, excellent gameplay, but the story **** on all that good work, and not only this but also in the first game.

I will be honest, the game is the best in graphics, gameplay and the scenarios, but un story it was not what i espected, the only reason why i give a 9/10 it's because the story is not at the level of the first game, but is a story that brings up a lot of different emotions in a single playthrough, and that kind of stories they are worth recognizing.

I don't know what and why I play. TLOU2 stary is trying to tell us to forgive, but all the decisions the characters made are insane. The story is telling me a person who killed hundreds of ppl and even abandon the love to family can learn forgiveness? The story isn't convincing enough, not even close. TLOU2 story is a really huge fading compare to TLOU. Very disappointed!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In terms of gameplay, I enjoyed the first half and couldn't wait to play more. By the second half I wanted to get through it as quickly as possible. (I actually sprinted through multiple encounters just to get moving, especially during the last area of the game).

Regarding where most of my disappointment comes from. I think.

Imaging driving your car, getting blindsided by another car killing your parent (a hit and run), chasing them down in a blind rage, and then taking an air bag to the face with a note taped to it from the speeder saying "sorry, not sorry, I'm sure you understand".

I'm still finding it difficult to articulate how I feel a few days after I've beaten the game, I apologize if this review does not explain it well.

Grief has several stages, but not here. There are two, anger and acceptance.

Joel is brutally murdered by Abby, you go out on a man hunt to take revenge (the whole time truly furious and convinced that Abby needs to die and everyone that helped her as well) and then.

    Boom

The sides switch and you are forced to play as the person who killed your father-figure in bloody fashion, in an effort to make you understand her side and empathize with her. Keep in mind, Abby shows zero remorse for her actions, and we are just expected to be "huh, I get it now. I killed all your friends, but you (the person I set out to kill in the first place) can live".

By the end I left the game thinking, is that it? I left confused not knowing what I'm supposed to feel, but feeling disappointed and almost numb and not sure why.

The storytelling was just all over the place and so many plot holes, how did they know where joel was or how he looked like? Ok maybe they just got lucky and found him, but still too much to absorb I guess. I found this story to be really depressing and if you had lost a love one or whatever I recommend to wait for a while, because this game really dwells in depression and later PTSD and about dealing with loss and grief. Well to me it does. Yeah I can't deny that I found the story to be a little disappointing on ellie's part and who we have to play through half of the game. Yeah I would give it a 5 in storytelling and about a 7 in gameplay, it's fine and if your curious about playing maybe wait til it goes on sale, but yeah that obviously didn't stop me. Lol Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An opening note: I was not spoiled prior to this game's release and, despite being a fan of the first, went in with zero expectations.

This is easily one of, if not the, best looking game I've ever played. The detail and art direction is incredible! However, it's certainly noticeable the PS4 is being pushed to its limits here and it buckles with various distracting graphical glitches throughout.

There's also plenty of new additions to the gameplay and combat which make for a visceral, tense and effective experience. The progression alongside it is also satisfying to take part in. Unfortunately there is some clunky gameplay at times (allies getting in the way, iffy dodging), particularly in the first boss fight between Ellie and Abby - which felt a little jarring in design and certainly halted the pace in an otherwise riveting confrontation.

The soundtrack is superbly emotional and exciting when it needs to be. Likewise, the performances are raw and heartfelt. The story never lets up in its ambition. The sense of scale in its settings, themes and emotions is truly admirable and truly felt like a step-up from its predecessor. Across my nearly 30 hour playtime I was enthralled and pleased to be able to experience such a vast and diverse story - from the nail-biting opening act, hearing the first whistles of the Seraphites, the horror of Seattle's ground zero, the invasion of the Seraphites island, and the emotional conclusion. All of it memorable and successfully balancing strong character drama, themes, action, horror, and excitement the whole way through.

The structure of the game effectively twisted every emotion I had. What I wanted at the beginning of the game was vastly different from what I wanted at the end of it. This is because there is true care, time and heart poured into all the characters here, most especially Ellie and Abby, who I grew to love just as much as each other. Abby especially was a difficult task to pull off, yet the more we experience with her and learn of her, the more my reluctance grew to acceptance, and finally to appreciation.

This roller coaster of perspectives, motives, flaws and strengths throughout ultimately paid off, and having become so attached to both sides of the story, Naughty Dog successfully made me feel the utter pain and tragedy of the violent cycle these characters are stuck in. Making me desperate to see some solace be found in it all, which ultimately made the conclusion all the more emotionally satisfying for me. I felt as though I found peace, just as its characters did.

To added benefit, I have never seen gameplay mechanics used to push me into such uncomfortable and reluctant places before, truly utilising and forwarding this medium's potential. And while this story and gameplay may be too daring for some, its dedication to its story and risks is never not apparent, and Naughty Dog knew to be patient and put just the right amount of time into the experience to make it work. At least for me, anyway.

All in all, this game is full of experiences, characters, themes and a story I'm sure not to forget. And I loved it.

I saw all leaks prior of the release date and it never discouraged me purchasing this game. I think it even made me want to play it more to be completely honest. It took some time getting used to the controller mechanics but I picked it up really quick. Although, I may not like the fact that Joel die, I like the story overall. It feels appropriate considering the game is about struggling against the world and everything in it.
A ton of people are dragging this game for unbelievable character reactions and choices but I think that they are justified within the context of the narrative. It is a blind rage, seeing red, bloodlust fueled, quest for revenge and the characters are obsessed with extracting their vengeance. ND is trying to say something about loss and letting go of those who have seriously hurt you and how that is not an easy or possible task in some instances. Are they completely successful? No. Is is objectively bad? Also no. This game is great and should be judged on its merits instead of what the fans wanted instead. If this were the first game no one would be complaining.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I **** loved The Last Of Us(1), I was 12 when I played it (I’m now 18) and it truly was the first video game that made me feel emotional. Not to mention the ending to the first game got me choked up because of the beautiful soundtrack but also the powerful writing and performances. Personally, I believe that if Joel was to be killed, it would be done in a heroic way. The fact that Abby just so happens to be saved by Joel is just goddamn lazy to me. Owen and Abby discussed how they’d get into to Jackson and if he (Joel) would even be there. I also feel heavily mislead with the trailer for the game making it seem like Joel and Ellie were going on another journey together.
I was beginning to like Jessie as a character but then boom, he’s shot in the **** face, I guess because if Abby missed then she would’ve been killed by them both; end of the story. I was hoping we would be able to play as badass Tommy, avenging his brothers goddamn death, but no, he had to lose eye to Abby and get a hobble as well. I mean Tommy was basically maimed, Jessie was murdered. Abby then decides, that’s not enough?! Tf?
Some questions I have is why weren’t Joel and Tommy suspicious about some random ass people so close to the town of Jackson? Why were they so trusting to these people? Wouldn’t they have been hostile to an unknown group like Maria was to Joel and Ellie at the dam? If Dina sensed she may be pregnant, why would she put herself and her unborn baby in danger? Why would that Mel character choose to go out on a mission even though she was more pregnant than Dina?!
The last thing that pissed me off the most was the ending. Ellie was seeing images of Joel’s beaten-to-a-pulp corpse, you’d think she would just have killed Abby out of pure sadness and rage. That would’ve impacted just in general and would’ve been more human. That was Ellie’s whole reason for going to California in the first place. She ruined her relationship with Dina for nothing. Ellie killed arguably dozens of “WLF’s” that weren’t connected to Joel’s death in any way. These such wolves may have just presided in Seattle. No, no, killing one more person would be terrible. I left the Last Of Us Part 2 with a feeling of confusion and a scowl on my face. The story was “out of order”. There was a lot of lazy writing in my opinion and convenience for the plot. The characters of this game didn’t feel like they were the same universe as the first game. Let me say this again, I loved The Last Of Us(1). In fact I played the first game probably 7 times, I had fun with the MP part of the game as well. I am not even going to play The Last Of Us 2 a second time. To put it very bluntly, the story is **** the visuals are phenomenal, the animations are really good, and the gameplay has a dodge and jump option.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe this game deserves a 6/10. It was highly disappointing. Although the graphics were phenomenal and the gameplay was great, the story fell flat for me in a number of ways. For one thing, Joel’s death while not surprising felt rushed and executed merely for shock value. His death felt numbing in a way that it partially contributed to me not caring or being emotionally attached to any of the characters in the game. The lack of care for the characters is due to the fact that I felt a handful of the characters relationships with one another were insincere and could have been developed more (Jesse, Ellie and Joel, Dina, Lev and Yara, Tommy and Maria, etc.) During the game and up until the end, I found it difficult to fully connect or care about any of the characters in the game whereas in the first game, I developed a deep attachment and understanding of Joel and Ellie, flawed or not. Furthermore, the switch to Abby, not only threw me off in terms of the plot progression (bc with Ellie we had reach a cliffhanger by Seattle Day 3 and then we switch to Abby) but also because Abby’s story felt like an entirely different saga vaguely related to the most prevalent events of the game. I understood the theme of vengence, violence, forgiveness, and tribality, however I don’t think I needed such a long and dragged out game such as this to understand these themes. In fact, I’ve seen shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender (a childrens show) reflect these themes much more powerfully and executed in ways that made me deeply reflect on the human condition not only as a kid watching it, but still as an adult rewatching it. I can respect the risks Naughty Dog has taken in an attempt to elevate gaming to new storytelling levels, however, the story just did not work for me. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge fan of the first game, it breaks my heart to write this. I can't express how disappointed I am with this game. The graphics, and game play were great, but I was here for a great story and it fell flat on it's face. Everything with Ellie was great, and the story was advancing beautifully... and than I had to control Abby? The person who killed Joel? The person who I've been trying to kill for over a dozen hours? Am I supposed to emphasize with her, because I didn't. The entire story portion of the Abby story was awful and everything felt unbelievably forced. The ending had no resolution... zero. Ellie travels across the country, giving up her girlfriend and "son" and doesn't kill Abby? Zero resolution. I spent 25 hours for nothing essentially. Joel was dead and Abby was alive in the first 2 hours of the game, and at the end it was the same exact thing. I don't know what Naughty Dog was thinking. Maybe they wanted to try to be "deep", but this has been a huge disappointment for me, all due to extremely poor story telling. I am going to delete this from my system and pretend like it doesn't exist. The first game was a masterclass in both game play and story telling, and while the game play was top notch, fans of the first should not be able to get over how poorly the story was told in this. They said they would not make DLC and now I'm happy about that. I hope they let this series go because it's a shame what they did to it. Expand

The story uses brutal scenes to get Joel killed, but doesn't use the same or worse level of scenes to take revenge of those murders, so disgusting; also the game does not provide options but forcing user not to take revenge on Abby, more disgusting; furthermore, the game forces players to control Abby - the devil and murderer during different stage of the game, this is definitely the worst way to piss off players.

I bought the game, played it for lots of hours, but I regret it, because:
    1. Bad story and ending - said above
    2. Slow pace story
    3. Force playing with enemy
    4. Not many graphic improvement for in-door areas compare to first one

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is clear that this is a very polarizing game, and I can understand why some people are upset, but I don't share the common anger directed at this game. I found The Last of Us Part II to be a very unique game in that it solicited an emotional reaction I have very very rarely felt while playing a video game, and in some cases in any other form of media. I believe this game is so successful because it is the first time I have felt that the interactive aspects of video games have produced feelings of personal unease and guilt that can't be replicated in print or film.

From here on out there are spoilers, so do not read until you have finished the game.

In the first act of the story, I felt a constant sense of dread. I contribute this to the pacing of the first act and the sound design. If you can play this game with surround sound do so. Naughty Dog uses many tricks taken from cinema such as low-frequency sound to produce unease. Of course, this culminates in the death of Joel. I'm not going to discuss the writer's decision to kill Joel, but I will say that the way it was done was very well crafted. It was emotional and haunting and the themes that stem from the killing permeate the rest of the game.

The rest of the story is engaging in my opinion, but the finale was not very shocking. Unlike many others, I felt I could sympathize with Abby, and I felt that she fit in with the game's shades of grey morality. I will agree with other's arguments that the story feels unfinished as you never achieve any of Ellie's goals. It feels like you just watch Ellie loose so much with nothing to gain. Others have said the characters and the rest of the story were tone-deaf, and I do not agree with this. I do not wish to discredit opposing views, but I simply disagree. The characters made sense, they were engaging, and their actions were rational. Tonally the game nailed it in my opinion. If I were to compare The Last of Us Part II to a movie it would be the 2009 film The Road. Both are dark, character-driven narratives that relentlessly drive home the point that the apocalypse is brooding and dark and not someplace you want to be. I believe this was Naughty Dog's goal, and I believe they nailed it.

The graphics and sound design are amazing. There's not much more for me to elaborate on. They're the best we have seen on this generation of consoles, and rival modern-day PC graphics in many ways.

The gameplay as well is excellent. The fights are vicious, unrelenting, and desperate. It is refreshing playing a game where you do not feel you are playing as some super-killing machine, and that you must use your wits to come out on top. Most encounters are asymmetric and require you to approach them with thought and deliberation. When stuff gets out of control it turns into a desperate battle where you try to exploit your opponent's weaknesses and maximize your character's relative strengths. It is fun and refreshing.

I'm also going to add that this game is very violent, and I think that is good. Video games too often make violence appear fun and almost comedic. The Last of Us Part II tries to mimic real violence as closely as they can and it is unsettling. There were numerous times where I felt uncomfortable after an encounter, and that is a profound feeling. The fight as Abby against the scar where you slice open his mouth with a scythe comes to mind as very unsettling. The opponents in this game feel very human, and the game takes violence seriously.

Overall I think this is a game you should play. Despite what many people say I think Naughty Dog achieved their goals in producing a dark and gritty post-apocalyptic world to explore, and in many ways they have acheived what no other developer has been able to do so far.

Adiós The Last Of Us.

Antes de comentar sobre The Last Of Us Parte 2 vou fazer algumas ponderações sobre o primeiro jogo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

I just finished it and it has been an awesome journey. I usually don´t finish all the games that I start, just only a few and this one is one of them. The depth of the characters and the story has been was the best part of it.

In my opinion, people are just giving a low score because 1# they are attached to a character from the first game that dies soon and 2# they are uncomfortable with lesbians. That´s it.

This game is excellent on so many levels. It did exceed all of my expectations in terms of story, mechanics, characters, visuals and overall emotional rollercoaster that the Last of us universe got us hooked on. Moreover, it was quite an impossible challenge to make a sequel to the great Last of us game that could be equally amazing. In my opinion, Part II has nailed it! I just finished The Last Of Us 2 and I hate to say this but it's really great game with awful story. I loved all the Uncharted stories and each game stepped up from the last game so I never imagined playing a Naughty Dog game with a shallow story and unsatisfying ending. They forgot the reason why the first game was successful. Getting to see it from both points of view changed everything for me and was absolutely necessary for us to understand both women and their need for revenge. But most importantly what that need causes them to lose. I hope there’s more to come. Expand

I created an account just to give this game a well deserved 10. This game is not meant to please the player. It's like drinking a Scotch while listening to Bob Dylan's 'A hard rains going fall' and watching 'No Country for Old Man'. It's not suppose to be 'fun'. It's a "heavy" game and I loved it.

Absolute masterpiece in game storytelling and intense survival horror stealth gameplay. It’s not what I expected but I loved it anyway, shame it got reviewbombed so hard but I doubt it will effect naughty dog and I hope they continue to make great games in the future.

É um jogo espetacular. A história é cheia de reviravoltas e surpresas. Os personagens são muito bem construídos. O diretor conseguiu superar o primeiro game. O jogo do ano.

Amazing game play, graphics and the dystopian world that is created feels so incredibly real. I think the first game is a perfect 10 but I didn't care for the ending in this game. I was expecting some better writing. Unless someone else was responsible for the story of the first The last of us. I can see how good this games graphics are. But, if you sculpt a turd on a plate. No one cares about how beautiful the turd is. No one would stoop to eating it and playing this game feels like they are trying to force you to eat that turd. I play games mostly for the story and loved the first game. I can't play something that I find no joy i I thought that was what games were about. To play something that satisfies you. A game is to make you think and get you to look at things differently. As well as introducing new scenarios and ways of telling a story. If a game fails to fuel imagination, then is it worth making? Good game overall. Timing for some missions is a bit weird. Story is great. Environment is on par with the best if not better (I was on a 1080 so I imagine it’s even better on 4K).

I would fix some minor issues with excessive looting and a few hours that I would erase

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
