Ok so.... i kinda had this game spoiled for me like a lot of other people, and went into it not knowing what my reaction would be until it happened!!! Then that moment came and I felt so many emotions i may have even had tears in my eyes?! How did it make me feel.... I didn’t review bomb the game.
    I didn’t cut my discs in half and post it online.
    I didn’t throw my toys out the pram and tell everyone else not to play.

    I acted like an adult and carried on charged up on all sorts of emotions hell bent on revenge wanting to blast through anyone and anything to avenge Joel...

    This game truly is a masterpiece... of storytelling of design and you can see the love and care that has been poured into every heart breaking attention to detail.

    That Birthday trip to the Museum was amazing the love between those two characters is so perfectly clear to see.

    Play the game and be ready to feel your opinions and feelings be blown all over the place.

    The Last of Us part 2 stands shoulder to shoulder with its predecessor as the greatest games of all time In my opinion of course    … Expand

    The people who rate this game 1 haven't completed it yet. I have and I'm playing survivor+ nearly done. 10/10 game. Graphics: 10/10 Story: 10/10 Combat: 9.5/10 Speech/Dialogue: 10/10. MUST GET GAME.

    i'm not sure people understand how amazing this game is. There is no happy song and dance in an apocalyptic world and people can die as sudden and as brutally as they do in LOU2. If you want to try to say this was a politically driven game pushing one womans agenda then that's fine, you're only ruining the experience for yourself.     My favorite game ever, this will be the game of the decade if a top contender, the story is very well plotted, to get the feeling of playing as abby who i once hated because of what she did to Joel, they made her reasons justified. And the story of ellie is heartbreaking and makes what this story great. 10/10 would recommend anybody play

    Quite honestly one of the best games I’ve played in awhile! I went in a little apprehensive with all the negative reviews floating around but was glad that I got to experience the story first hand. I really enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions it took me on and found my self empathizing with surprising characters. It broke my heart more than once. I would say that only a good game makes you feel that way, haha.

    The environment and combat/stealth system is actually awesome. I played on hard for my first play through and enjoyed playing conservatively when it came to encounters. Getting to explore/scavenge between fights was one of my favorite things to do. I loved reading notes left behind by others. Though that’s true from the first game as well.

    I also loved that the Infected played a bigger part even though they weren’t the main focus of the game. Their AI systems definitely got a much needed rework compared to the last game and they were more fun to go up against! Don’t let the negativity stop you from experiencing this awesome story!    … Expand

    At first I was worried about the quality of the game and story after such outcry. I finished playing today and couldn’t get it out of my head. Not only it’s my new favorite game, it’s probably the best movie of the year so far!! I got all the feels... never though I’d feel like crying with a game but wow, it’s truly intense.     You can the amount of love that went into this game. Some of the scenery is absolutely stunning and I spent hours looking at all the details. In the past, Spielberg has said that video games don't move audiences the same way as movies; I think this game disagrees with him (and I'd hope he'd agree with that). It's a lesson in understanding, a lesson sorely needed for us all. For those of you taking those 0s and 1s out of 10 into consideration I'll ask you this: how can a game with such incredible graphics, attention to details and game-play have a 0? Many will scoff and say the game's writer has done something very wrong at the start. It's a dystopian future, one where the character's decisions have lawless consequences. If you liked the first game and are interested in this one then just play it. Make your own mind up; all I'd suggest is playing it all the way through before reviewing it. Many (not all) of these 0s and 1s seem to have appeared within the game's first day of release. It took me just over 30 hours to complete the game.… Expand

    Ironically, I had low expectations compared to most for this game due to the number of people online telling me how much I will hate it (especially as such a huge fan of the first). Truthfully, I just can't say I agree with many of the popular critiques of the narrative (except a few plot holes) which is why I am rating it a 9/10. Firstly, the gameplay (including graphics, lighting, level design, and sound design) is amazing; especially that it can run so well on a base PS4. In my opinion, the gameplay alone should discredit most 0/10's. Secondly, the performances are incredible once again; even though some may struggle relating to some new characters, the individual performances are still amazing almost across the board. One scene that stands out for this is at the beginning of the game in the cabin; if you played it you know what I'm referring too. Finally, the narrative itself while having made some very interesting decisions, executes these decisions extremely well in my opinion. This game is not trying to capture the same magic of the first, but instead, create a new storyline which was an extremely risky move that I respect greatly. Most decisions of this game have an answer, it really just depends if the player is willing to be open or not to the story. The ending especially is one that I really confused about how so many hate it, as it truly is one of the redeeming moments of Ellie in a story filled with so much sadness. "Well, she did all of this for nothing"... exactly, revenge never truly fulfills and always amounts to nothing. In my opinion, though, this game says much more than "revenge is bad", but, that is all up for interpretation to the player with its very open-ended conclusion. I have to admit like many people I was upset and angered by the death of Joel, it felt stupid and out of character for him, but then I realised that of course it’s out of character for him, he has been living in Jackson with Ellie and his brother for years now. Both of these people would have changed Joel’s perspective on the world and he would have stopped being so cynical and untrusting. The fact that I was so angered by his death and so shocked by how it went down just shows that naughty dog knew exactly what they were doing and the story just gets better after that, we follow Ellie on a story of revenge, and during that story we see glimpses into her past with Joel and the reasoning for why she wants to do this. However during the story we see that she regrets some of the actions she makes and it’s incredibly to see a protagonist really wonder if what she did was right. Halfway through the game comes the most controversial part, we get to play as the “villain” Abby. And like a lot of people I wasn’t very thrilled about the idea of playing half the game as this character however throughout her story we learn the reason to why she killed Joel and also find out that she is just as good a person as we believe Ellie to be. However the boss fight against Ellie was still very hard to do and I did not want to do it as like many others I love her character. But the side as Abby was very interesting and gave some insight into her character which helped the story a lot. The best part of the game for me was the ending. It showed that Ellie quest for revenge lost her many people in her life and she even realised that Abby was not worth killing, overall it was a very well done story of revenge and how it can be wrong.… Expand

    Нил Дрекманн как ни крути, а все таки голова. И такая голова смогла придумать такое продолжение. Продолжение - как пощечина всем влюбленным в Элли, в Джоэла и всю эту прекрасную историю первой части. А после пощеничы - еще и ушат холодной воды.
    Пойди Дрекманн простым путем, как он сделал с Анчартед -4, то на выходе была бы обычная проходная игра, с новыми добавленными механиками и может    Нил Дрекманн как ни крути, а все таки голова.     The bias in the revievs just shows that people these days are not ready for this kind of dificult stories.
    Most of the negative revievs are basically "OMG they killed Joel. How they could make one of the main characters think he is evil even thou he killed many people"

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is a game I struggled through, yet savoured every moment of. It's a graphical marvel with slick game-play to boot, but the story is something I will never forget due to the pain it caused and the traumatic journey it took me on. This game to me was a masterpiece, which unfortunately like many things deserving of that title, many are not able to give the appreciation it warrants.

    I'll address the story more a bit further down, but first I have to marvel at how visually stunning this game is. The locales are breathtaking, from the open plains to the skeletal remains of a city being eroded away, it's a marvel to look at. The way the locations are structured too are so organic as well, providing just enough prompting of where to go without making everything too obviously a place to climb or a crate to hide behind. Few things seem out of place, which is exactly what we'd expect Naughty Dog to achieve. The motion capture is also far beyond any other game I've played, particularly the facial animations. There is so much emotion portrayed through the characters expressions, through subtle tremors, tired eyes and frown line movements, you really are able to really feel what the characters are feeling. It's a marvel to watch every cut scene and admire the character design on display.

    The game play is also an notable improvement from the first game, with incredibly complex combat situations. There are a variety of ways to tackle every scenario, although stealth is strongly encouraged. You will however find that the enemy AI is far more savvy in this game, so going through the larger stages unnoticed is an incredible challenge. You will get noticed, which can often lead to very sticky situations where you realise your character isn't super woman. Death will be swift (just as the WLF wishes for you). The infected are also far more formidable. You can't plot the path of a clicker any more, if you sit in front of it for too long you will be maimed. Don't even get me started on the stalkers, they're the worst in part 1 and they are so much more agile now. By the way, keep your eyes peeled on the wall fungus, just trust me on this. The new infected types are also worthy editions, although I thought there could have been a few more.

    I must digress though that the game-play is not perfect. Ellie's trap mines are seldom useful for mine and I kind of wish I could have suppressed more weapons than just the semi-auto handgun. Also I thought the way the skill tree worked, although intuitive, made no logical sense for the sake of realism (Since when does drugs make someone better at crafting bombs). There also seemed to be some imbalance with the amount of scrap each character could get for crafting, leading to no crafting at workbenches 50% of the time on the normal setting. but these were small issues in the grand scheme of things.

    For mine, the story is what this game should and will be remembered for. Revenge is the key theme, but the motives behind this is so integral. The people in this world are in a living hell, few things matter but the lives of their loved ones. When those loved ones die in this dog-eat-dog world, what little these characters have is stripped away from them. For Ellie this trauma is so palpable, she is mentally ill and she's filled with rage. Love is something which she no longer seems to trust, and as the player you can see this conflict within her in her relationship with Dina (by the way, this game is not LGBT propaganda like the incels review bombing the game would have you believe. It's just a relationship like any other in this world). As the player you have the knowledge that you are taking her on a self-destructive path. She's experienced incredibly complex trauma which the writers have accurately portrayed how this would mess with her head. She isn't a redeeming character, but nor is she supposed to be, no-one goes through this sort of trauma and comes out the end of it hunky dory. The fact that you hate so many choices she makes was so deliberate on the part of the developers. But they also give you plenty of beautiful moments for her in flashbacks which help the games more recent developments make more sense.

    I will admit that I was initially unsure about playing as Abby, but the game was so much better for it. It's as much her tale as it is Ellie's, and they're both dealing with very similar trauma. It completely changed the dynamic of her character being able to see things from her perspective too, and learn that there's far more than meets the eye with her. Her side of the story starts off slow, you want to hate her, but as you continue to play as her you realise that hate isn't completely warranted. You realise that she and Ellie are just incredibly broken people with little reason to live or die, with complex trauma clouding their judgement, yet motivating their every move. When you see things this way, they are wonderfully complex characters.    … Expand

I still don't know after finishing it 2 days ago my feelings about the story. It's hard. Till the end you have to clue what's gonna happen. Wow.     This is definitely a game for grown ups. If you expect a mindless slash and loot until an happy end is not the game for you. This game is dark and gut wrenching and will make you yell at the screen multiple times. Easily the best game on Ps4 and prob best of all time.

    The graphics on the is just beautiful. This game is truly a technical marvel. In my opinion, the story is great. It made me cry, it made me mad, but I think this is what the devs were going for and they did an amazing job. Beautiful art can't be perfect, sometimes it's the flaw that makes it beautiful.

Two, the game itself is amazing overall. Yes killing off Joel was absolutely awful, I literally resented playing it like 20 minutes after that death, but I kept going. They really played my emotions like a tiny violin, I was pissed, much like Ellie herself. I murdered every single Wolf and didn’t care, I wanted revenge for Joel. They made me profusely angry when I had to play as stupid buff Abby but I understand why, you’re not going to like her, but sometimes life gives you unfavourable characters that you must deal with. I spent half the time as Abby just letting her get eaten but unfortunately the show had to go on. As it does go on, I start to feel a bit guilty about wanting to kill Abby, I felt compassion for her story. Yes it is annoying that she killed Joel (don’t get me started on how Jesse died, I liked him) but I get to understand both the sides of revenge. It was an emotional story about how two young girls are dragged into violent turmoils due to their fathers or father figures, they were brought into the drama in the worst way possible and their grief, anger and love fuels their need for vengeance. In the end, I understand Ellie not killing Abby, she was tired mentally and physically from her revenge and even though she travelled all that way, it wasn’t worth the guilt and pain after all. Now the ending was a bit anticlimactic but I will give them the benefit of the doubt since I loved the whole game, the ending was left a bit open-ended due to her setting off in search of Dina and JJ (that baby is cute ya’ll). It’s honestly the best game I have played in such a long time and it left me wanting more of Ellie’s story and even Abby’s which I hate to admit (what’s with all the murdering of pregnant women Naughty Dog?!). In short, I hated it, gave it another chance and ended up loving the story.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I say all the negativity online bit decided I would play through the whole game before making my own decision.
    I struggled for a moment when first switching over to play as Abby due to how well the game had forced me to hate her.
    But as I began to see things from her perspective and accept the message the game was trying to put across I found that it wasn't a bad thing.
    The first Last of Us was amazing and helped by the fact that the villain in Marlene and the fireflies weren't really villains.
    They were trying to save the world but we saw them as Evil due to our perspective and Abby is exactly the same.
    Only we see her story in far more depth, we see her reasons for hunting Joel are the same as Ellies reasons for hunting her.
    We see how everyone in the Last of Us world has these shades of Grey, their is no good and evil just survival.
    On top of all this the gameplay is astounding the stealth is well done and when all hell does break loose it feels like genuine chos where an enemy can come at you from any direction.
    The attention to detail is also top level with every area incredibly well laid out and my personal favourite being Ellie playing the guitar and all the videos now about with her playing classics.
    And finally for me is the characters, Ellie is amazing, so entirely driven by her hate, rage and need for vengeance that by the time she sees the consequences of her actions she has lost everything that mattered to her.
    Dinas role as Ellies anchor and seemingly the one person who might be able to get her out of the endless cycle of vengeance even though she fails.
    And if you let go of the hatred from the first half of the game and let yourself understand Abby she and her friends are equally intriguing characters even if they have a very skewed moral compass but then so does Ellie and so did Joel.
    Overall Last of us part 2 is an incredible game it is horrific, dark, grisly and one emotional gut punch after another and everytime you think fictional characters can't hurt you more this game will twist the knife again and again.
    I understand people being put of by the violence and bleak tone, even if I think they help the overall experience.
    The Lesbian and Trans elements shouldn't be an issue for any one as they have zero negative effect on the game itself and anyone who allowed themselves t be put of by the leaks about this game need to make their own opinion using the actual game rather then using what a few youtubers say as the basis for their opinion.    … Expand

    What an experience. completely subverted my expectations at every corner and made me ask myself extremely difficult questions. The ending will stay with me for months. I dont know what I feel. But its completely conflicting. I loved this game. I want to forget it . But I cant. 10/10

Characters we learn to love also die there, and at times and circumstances deemed unfair. People who are leaving bad reviews here have either not completed the game or are too childish to grasp the not-so-popular storyline. The game is about revenge, how far we can go in the pursuit of it. It’s deep and thought provoking, not for children or people who can’t read/understand heavy content. The only aspect of this game I’d change is the decision making element. I think it should be up the players what Ellie and Abby want to do as a result of they have seen and learnt throughout their journeys, specially whether Ellie should accept Tommy’s proposal or even if she (we) should have killed Abby at the very end. Said that, this game is actually much deeper than I thought it would be and as such I give immense credit/recognition to Naughtydog.… Expand

I rate it a solid 90% or higher and probably would have opted for giving it a 9 out of 10 but was so annoyed with all the ridiculous review bombing I’m giving the game the fair 10 it deserves. What Naughty Dog have achieved in relation to creating a sequel to one of the very best video games ever created has to be applauded. Sequels usually never live up to their predecessor and following the brilliance of the first was never going to be easy. But for me it delivered exactly the same captivating entertainment that made the first game something I had never experienced or expected within a video game. The Last of us Part 2 is a horror game; it is violent, shocking, unsettling and at times so claustrophobic I find myself scrambling frantically within gameplay to move ahead only so I can breathe again. But this is the type of experience that every horror should be able to deliver, and I feel it delivers it on an epic scale.

    Regarding gameplay I found it very similar to the first, characters navigate through a maze like linear world solving puzzles and kicking ass to unfold a cinematic story. The environments are absolutely gobsmacking and whilst there are strong periods immersed in beautiful environments and landscapes, you find yourself mostly navigating through a world far more grim and unsettling then the first. And this works, it totally does to deliver a truly horror filled experience. I found at times some of the subplots or searching of abandoned buildings for supplies felt a little long distracting from the main narrative. However there was no way I would not want to play the subplots or not search extensively for supplies to craft weapon upgrades and is a good reminder that we are playing a video game and not watching a film.

    I found without the violent death of Joel within the first few hours playing, the game may have never gripped me as tight as it did and have me wanting to progress relentlessly like I did. And I think had they created a sequel where neither Ellie or Joel died they would find themselves tiptoeing in similar ground. Well done Naughty Dog, get over it review bombers.

    Halfway through the decision to cease gameplay of Ellie and control Abby Joel’s killer, at first shocked the crap out of me. I felt a moment of reluctance to continue, however I felt myself soon in a position where I did not want to let Abby go. Amazing turn of events to experience within a video game and I think one that helps build such a memorising experience.

    For a game that follows such events as it does within the story I couldn’t think of a better ending, it was powerful and felt every way satisfying to close out the 30 hours or so of absorbing gameplay I had just immersed myself within.

    Just like the first this game exceeds the realm of traditional gameplay and delivers new heights of story telly much more aligned with cinematic experience and that’s why I feel it lives up to the first.

    If you enjoyed everything that was shocking and innovative about the first whilst appreciating this is a sequel trying to deliver the same experience, I don’t believe you can be disappointed. Get it regardless!!    … Expand

    I didn't get the hatred over the game, I enjoyed every minute of it. The first one is one of my favorite game, and I had very big expectations for this game, but Naughty Dog delivered beyond this expectations. I get an emotional story with as much challenging gameplay as the first episode had, so thank you Naughty Dog for this experience!

    SPOILERS AHEAD.

    It was a jarring and emotional shock to lose Joel, the main character of the original game in such a violent and sudden way, but I found that it was moments like this that made the game such a pleasure play. The developer's relentless tenacity to make sure that you were in a constant state of unease whether you were part of a particularly emotional cutscene or desperately trying to hide from four clickers and a shambler was an element of the game that I felt needed to be experienced and it was incredibly well executed. Another aspect of the which I feel isn't getting a lot of traction that should be talked about is all of the accessibility options. I am a neurodiverse gamer and I have somewhat poor spatial awareness and visual perceptual skills so to be able to go to a menu which allowed me to adjust certain elements of the game that made more accessible it was such an unexpected and welcome surprise. I am so thankfully to Naughty Dog for thinking of like me and including us in their development process. Though I feel this game is incredible that is not say that I don't have a few questions about some story decisions. I know that the 1st game was developed without a sequel in mind but I feel that introducing a new main character into the arc of the story has slightly less emotional impact on the player than bringing over a character from the original game would have. On the other hand, I imagine the randomness and arbitrariness of whose enacting the violence of the game is part of the story of the game's message.

    So there you go. I am a fan of TLOA Part 2. I am not one the developers so I, of course, can't speak for them, but I genuinely loved everything that I believe this game was trying to be it fulfilled and exceeded all of my expectations. I don't know if Naughty Dog is going to make the game TLOA into a trilogy
    (I certainly have a few story ideas haha) but if they do I will definitely be picking up a copy of
    TLOA Part 3    … Expand

    So good. Story maybe not as strong as the first but definitely still incredible. I cried, I laughed, I was enthralled. Biggest issue is exploring and then getting locked out of an area before you're ready. But honestly, no complaints I love it ty naughty dog.

    Definitely in my top 3 games for PlayStation along with Resident Evil 2 Remake and God of War. Some gameplay is annoying- with trying to find the exact spot to press triangle and progress the story but overall mechanics and story are excellent. I’ll have to wait a few years to replay though since it’s emotionally taxing. I can’t wait till they make this into a TV show!
