Anyone on here who says this game has a "bad story" is failing to distinguish between a bad story, and just being mad about Joel dying. They may also have some issues with the strong female main characters, and the throughline being a lesbian romance. This game is a masterpiece with lifelike characters, fun gameplay and a compelling story. Expand

From a gameplay perspective, the game is butter smooth. Every mechanic and control is well thought out, and serves to foster acting naturally in the game. Menus are unobtrusive, and you don't spend much time at all in them. Combat is incredibly fun, and replayability is made higher by a new game+, as well as being able to solve any encounter in a multitude of different ways.

Where this game shines the most is the story. The Last of Us's execution of the struggle to retain one's humanity in an utterly inhumane world is perfectly captured in the Last of Us 2. While the setting zombie apocalypse always sounds bleak or brutal, unlike other similarly set stories, TLoU2 excels in showing not only the horror of humanity, but the beauty as well. It celebrating that we can truly make life in any world, and also reminding us the depths of depravity we can fall to when that life is upset. It excels at putting us in the minds and worlds of the characters in a way that no other game ever has. The full story cannot be grasped until it's concluded, and the second playthrough is made so much richer as a result.

Post apocalyptic Seattle is so incredibly real. seeing one of my favorite cities so incredibly well rendered in a game was fun beyond words. the graphics are of such incredible beauty that I honestly was speechless at points.

In my estimation, this game is the pinnacle of video game story telling.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really I'm giving it an 8.5. 8 just seems too low.

    SPOILERS.

    OK. I'm confused.

I was fortunate enough to avoid most of the leaks, but two things I did see were A) You play partly as Abby, who's a transsexual villain and B) Joel dies (I didn't see how). For the whole game I was waiting for some big reveal that would show that Abby was transsexual...it never came. One of the main reasons people were so angry about the leaks were that she was trans. Just complete and utter nonsense. The way this game has been review bombed with 0's and 1's and 2's is really weird and honestly embarrassing.

There are problems with this game, absolutely. Some real problems. But if you're bothered that Abby is muscly...weird. If you're bothered that Ellie is a lesbian...weird. If you're bothered that a side character shaved her head because she wants to look like a boy...weird. Is it fueled with agenda? Sure. Is it pushing boundaries? Absolutely. Should it mean you score it with a 0 out of 10? Absolutely not.

Starting with the positives...what a GAME this is. I'm no gaming expert so I'm going to struggle to get all the words out correctly. But as a GAME (separate to the storyline), it doesn't get much better. Insane graphics, probably the best I've seen. The fluidity is flawless. Animations are incredible. I personally love the changes in pace between action and taking it easy. Gun play feels very satisfying. Enemy AI is very good (and adjustable). The zombies are scarier then before. The minor details are there. Sound wise it's incredibly eerie and atmospheric. The moment where you first come across the Scars and get hit with the arrow...I jumped out of my seat! The high pitched whistle, the deep throng of petrifying music as you pull the arrow out of your shoulder. Just amazing. I've seen the gameplay be labelled as boring and not worthy of a PS4 title, and I genuinely find those opinions laughable. The gameplay lived up to everything I expected. Such an improvement on part 1 (which you would expect after 7 years). But how about the story?

This is where I do have problems, and can't help but feel a little disappointed. I'm the biggest fan of part 1...my favourite game of all time. And a huge part of that is down to the incredible story...the connection between Joel and Ellie, the emotion in the cut scenes, every character that was introduced along the way, how the narrative twisted and turned. Just a phenomenal story. I did have a feeling that Joel's decision at the end of part 1 would come back to bite him. But did I think it would bite him like THIS? 2 hours into the game, with no context as to why Abby wanted to do it, after having PLAYED as Abby?! For the record...I have no issue with Joel dying. I don't even have an issue with the way in which he died. It was shocking, powerful. You felt a sense of dread. When the final blow lands and the sound goes to that high pitched screech like you yourself have just suffered a bang to the head. It was very well done. The writers are entitled to take the story how they see fit, and if that means Joel dying, so be it. I'm sad about it, I loved him, I didn't want him to die. But if that's the direction they wanted it to go, OK. Some people in these reviews have been acting like spoilt children. The problem I DO have is A) the fact we had no context as to why it was happening, B) How lucky Abby was to find herself in that situation and C) Not getting to experience the immediate reaction.

I feel it would have been better for Abby to infiltrate Jackson first. Become a member of the community. We could learn about her back story. We could understand why she wanted to kill Joel. THEN we could switch to Ellie trying to get revenge. Asking the player to be as understanding as what Naughty Dog want is dangerous, and clearly in this case hasn't really worked. And one thing I loved from the first game was the emotion, how it would have me on the verge of tears at times. The scene where Sam dies and Henry turns the gun on himself. The scene where Ellie explains to Joel how everyone she cared about has left her or died. I didn't get any of that from this game. The reaction to Joel's death is rushed. The game seemingly doesn't care about Jesse dying. The flashbacks with Joel and Ellie both could have been more emotional, fleshed out and satisfying. That's my main issue.

I ended up liking Abby. During the final fight sequence I was pressing buttons I didn't want to press, begging Ellie not to do it. I was glad she didn't. But even the way that came about, Ellie leaving practically a dream life with Dina and the baby behind, seemed silly and forced.

All in all I think it's an amazing game, slightly let down by a cluttered story, which tries so hard to make you side with a new character. The Last Of Us is Ellie's story. And I really hope they do a part 3 with a stronger narrative and a happy ending for a character we love so much.

The Last of Us 2 is a game that was treated very unfairly based on early story leaks which is extremely sad because so many gamers turned up their nose to it based solely on those leaks. I can affirm this game stays extremely true to the original core gameplay mechanics and the story is very enthralling.

If you decided not to play this game based off of the leaks I implore you to give it

The people who rated this badly did so because of American identity politics. Most of them would have never finished the game in the time it took them to review it. They're annoyed because the main character is gay. If you're like me and you only care if the game is good or not, then buy it. I can honestly say that it's terrific. Best buy in a while.

Sound and visuals play a very important role in transmitting fear, suspense and the feeling that something is about to happen. All this added to the beautiful landscapes that are also in charge of transmitting calm and hope to the player.

The story is a subjective element. Although there are narrative themes that could be improved on, I think, no matter what happens, you'll enjoy the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A difficult game to go through, I will admit. I was just angry and terribly sad with the early death of Joel, really wish we could have seen more of him before he go. But, I think that's exactly the point of the whole experience. He's out so quickly that you, along Ellie, is mourning him pretty much at the same time, through the entire game. Losing someone is never easy, it's never the right time either. In games, they usually do death that feels like the circle is, or almost, complete. Therefore, you feel less **** about it, or you are left with a nostalgic feeling. But like I said, in real life, it's never the right time, and that's exactly what The Last of Us made me feel about Joel's death. A real death, too soon, plainly painful to think about, like they truly do in real life.
I recommend strongly. It's an amazing game. *Excuse my poor English*

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a big fan of the first game, but this one, although it has technical quality, is far from the first one. Neil Druckman filled the game with left bias policies, destroyed the character of Ellen we know from the first game, in that she was cool, persistent, faithful, loyal and had a focus on her goal, in this game right at the beginning shows an Ellen spoiled, with no respect for others, because although the bartender was wrong to judge her, he tries to redeem himself by even making a snack, which she calls him precociousituiche. She gets freaky and doesn't want to talk to Joel who just treats her like a daughter. At all times there is a force of the bar, Joel appears to be a childish and foolish ingenuity, his death occurred in a light and banal way, it could have occurred but respecting the player's intelligence. Naughty Dog Stop this SJW and focus on gameplay again. PS: Neil Druckman claims to be a champion of women but he didn't think twice about taking the position that belonged to Amy Hennig in Uncharted. I put 1 point. And this is without taking into account the excellent work of everyone who worked on the technical part of the game. Great acting. Incredible character animation. Great music and sound overall. But... all this loses its meaning if you are presented with crap in a nice wrapper.
And all because of a terrible scenario.

If you do start, be prepared that in the middle of the game they will give you a bucket of **** and say: "Eat this!"
You will be forced to do things that are not interesting to you or even disgusting. You will hope that it will end quickly, but no - the bucket of **** will have to be eaten completely.
And when the story is approaching the end, you will have one wish - let it end as soon as possible. You will be sick of the meaningless and aimless action in which you will participate. And the credits will be a relief.

The moral of the story is primitive and stupid. It's a shame for the authors that they put everything on this childish rule: "It's bad to be bad, it's good to be good."

If you liked the first part, then I do not recommend playing "The Last of Us. Part 2".

The main disappointment of recent years.

The abuse this game has got including its creators and even actors is beyond cruel. Most will not have even played this game but yet still feel their entitlement to shoot something down. Play the game, if you don’t like it that’s your choice but it’s not your right to attack people for it.

So I've beaten this game twice now, and while it's not a "masterpiece" as IGN called it, it's certainly a solid game and one of the best PS4 games out there. The graphics, controls, voice acting, and gameplay are all solid. I enjoyed playing as Ellie, but honestly I enjoyed playing as Abby more. The f*ck tards out there bashing this game because they killed off you know who, or the lesbian part of the story between Ellie and Dina, honestly you're all f*cking morons. My only gripes with the game are parts of the story are poorly written, boring and cheesy, and the gameplay, while fun for the most part, was kind of "been there, done that" as well. 8/10. Expand

The original felt grey. It was about flawed people trying to help and getting sucked into a much bigger dilemma. Very Half-Life or in particular Half-Life 2, where the world is authoritarian and everything is terrible, but you fought on.

The original title is awful, but in a way that felt real. There is reasoning that feels solemn, and it feels like the ending makes sense.

The sequel is angry. It wants you to see the torture of someone that did nothing of the sort, (to these people) as realistic, then later view that in a different light. You cannot create visceral imagery then expect it to be forgotten.

If there were a prequel to this, if we had the chance to give any care to these people it could have changed. However, it is a heavy-handed approach to forcing a new set of characters into the series. It is required to care and by the end I did. I did not want them to die and it was very self-reflective.

I cared slightly about these people, but they did bad things, almost none of them are as redeemable as the end of the first game. It just doesn't hit the same peak, and while it is a master craft in acting and technical design, it just misses the mark the first game created on that mountain.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The best way to describe this game is if 2020 was a video game. I'm not even kidding. When you play video games, you play them to go up against fictional, mostly nameless baddies. Persona games you go up against demons and other personas, God of War you go up against supernatural fodder, Divinity Original Sin 2 you go up against Voidwoken and Zealot Magisters who want to see you hung with insane veracity, etc. Even TLou primarily focused on the infected and when it was human enemies they were so absurd that you were up against a cannibal cult leader who wanted to marry a 10 year old. The reason this is the case is so that games are an escape from the day to day grind and you have avenues to let out aggression on sprites in healthy ways.

The TLou2 gives you that in the first few hours and feels like a pretty damn good game. When you're going up against the infected, it's everything I would want it to be. Fun, fast paced, stealth based, etc. Then... the game goes loopty f*** and you're doing things that are unnecessary. Killing a pregnant woman, killing humans and animals where you actually hear the pain in the other people's voices of losing their friends, etc. At the end of the game all you have to show for it is everyone who was a lead character is either broken or dead. There is no hope, there is no love, there is no compassion. It's... a very nihilistic point of view. Playing the game when you started dealing with the Washington Liberation enemies started feeling like watching the original Martyrs, and that movie turned me off horror films. So, good job. You created a game with something to say. Only in trying to express progressive views and thought provoking ideas, all you achieved was hate and loss.

I absolutely loved the first Last of Us, the store hit home for me, and I enjoyed the gameplay, environments, graphics and of course the characters Joel and Ellie. Was it a 10, no but near enough for ME. There is always issues like having to play it on a **** console for one, **** hardware that impacts frames and forces you to use a control system that makes aiming feel like you're trying to target a moving object with a fishing rod. But that aside it was amazing.

How do I feel about The Last of Us 2? It is basically the same as the first one, graphics and environments are great, gameplay is almost unchanged. The characters..... well half the game is about characters we dont know, and the other half the characters we love but they are different. Now that is somewhat understandable as their experiences have changed them as they would a real person and you learn why throughout the game. I enjoyed the story telling, even if I did not like the new characters, I didn't hate them but I just had no connection. The flashbacks for Joel and Ellie were probably the best parts. Still hated playing it on console, the frame drops and ****ty controller is still there and frustrating in those times where quick reactions would have helped.

Overall this is not a ZERO and its definitely not a TEN, dont know what these critics are smoking, need to have a long hard look at their integrity. Is it a GREAT game, no, but its enjoyable and Im glad I played it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLoU 2 was trying its best to recreate the success and brutality of Game Of Thrones, and even have a "red wedding moment", and instead - only succeeded in recreating the failure, and futility of Game Of Thrones, Season 8.
The good: The stealth gameplay in TLoU 2 is a massive improvement over the first game. Feels more polished and evolved, like me sneaking around in Metal Gear Solid 5's open world. Its a shame, because this gameplay would suit a slightly more open-world survival/stealth game. Especially with how GOOD this game looks and animates and plays. I was often face-first into walls, trying to zoom in on small details, and reading old posters, menus. Looking around and exploring what was left of some persons old bedroom, or house. The VISUAL craft and design did a great job at world building...
But lets move onto how the narrative starts to get in the way of this improved gameplay and world-building. TLoU 2 is constantly trying to drip-feed you narrative, from conversations you overhear from NPC's (which some were fine), to the hundreds of hand-written notes left on every preset dead body, in every house, or building... requiring you to stop and read to tell their mini-story in this post-apocalyptic America. This works fine if done sparingly, but this game inundates you with letter-after-letter, from some person who was about to die who decided to write a full page journal entry on whatever scrap-paper they could find; to even groups of people communicating together, by what seems like letter-only, who clearly lived in the same neighbourhood together. It ends up accomplishing the opposite, It goes from world-building, to immediately pulling you out of the game once the heavy-hand of the narrative makes itself too pronounced in the world around you. I was bored when Doom 3 did this over 15 years ago. This bleeds into the patrolling enemies talking out loud EVERY time you're within ear-shot, trying their hardest to make you feel guilty about the person you're about to kill. It becomes almost laughable after a certain point. The game is trying so hard to MAKE me feel a certain way, and never earns it. "Society is crumbling and people are turning on eachother" "one mans hero is anothers' villain". That nameless NPC you're about to stealth kill actually has a name, a dog, friends AND a girlfriend. It becomes over-saturated. This trope has been done to death in the zombie genre. It seems weird for it to become the LASER focused premise of the sequel. By the end of the game, I felt like I was being bludgeoned over the head by the writers at Naughty Dog . Yes, I got your point . Now where is the good part?

The first game was a shorter, concise narrative, that built up to an emotional ending it EARNED. I understood everyone's perspective, and motivations, even Marlene and the Fireflies. But this sequel, TLoU 2, does not earn any of the emotions it's TRYING to get out of the player. The writing is inconsistent, changing the characters personality and motivations and having them make decisions that don't make sense.
And with how progressive Naughty Dog seems to be politically, which is reflected even more in this sequel, has me questioning why they would build up one of the gaming industries only prominent LGBT protagonists like Ellie, a character that even the sexist "gamer-bros" fell in love with and rooted for. To go from successfully normalizing having a gay, female lead, and then simply destroy all that, destroy that character, just to re-tell the same old "revenge bad" story. Seems like a such a wasted opportunity to do much more from a progressive standpoint. And without getting too much into spoilers, lets just say that by the end of the game, Joel got it easy - Ellie's character is not only destroyed within the narrative of the game, she's also destroyed in fandom sense as well, her icon was taken down a notch. And if Naughty dog thinks "BUT THAT WAS THE POINT" my response is,
"well, your point kinda sucks, and you missed a great opportunity to platform a gay character and raise them up to iconic status."
To summarize, TLoU 2 is a technically impressive game, that suffers massively from its narrative in two ways - the narrative itself is unsatisfying and depressing, (again, reminding me of torture porn and futility of a movie like 2002's french film "Irreversible") and because the narrative is so stilted, the gameplay-loop also suffers from that compartmentalized story that jumps not just from character-to-character, but goes into flashbacks within flashbacks. It never really establishes a good flow.

The last of us part II again subverts the expectations of what a lead protagonist should be. While we feel genuine hatred for Abby after she so barbarically kills Joel it creates the same anger that Ellie feels within the player. Watching that scene unfold I felt the same anger and sadness as Ellie and rarely can a game illicit such a response. The last of us part 2 does a great job at posing a real question to the player. Can the love for someone out way the things they have done? And should they not be accountable for their actions? Joel systematically continued the end of the world by eliminating the only doctor that could have created a cure. Thus plunging the world into eternal chaos. Just because his intentions were not to lose another daughter can we really as rational thinking people not expect that decision to catch up with him? It should have and it did. Now when the shift to Abby arrives we again are posed another question. Who exactly is the villain here? We see Abbys trauma almost mimic Ellie’s. Loss of a father that fuels a blinding hatred. I think it’s quite poignant to point out Neil Druckmanns Israeli heritage, not to attack but as a backdrop for the themes of this game. I am a British born Palestinian and my life has continuous been filled with a parental given hatred for a people I know nothing about. I think the whole theme of the cyclical nature of revenge and violence are very real problems the world faces today. Inability to forgive and move past trauma. Naughty dog have really hammered home the idea that everyone is a villain in someone else’s story. Abby the villain in Ellie’s story. Joel the villain of Abby story. Ellie the villain in the stories of Nora, Mel and Owen. And in the world of the last of us that fits beautifully. It’s the post apocalypse and there are no good people any more. Just varying shades of grey. I praise this game not because the story was amazing. But because it dared to do something more. Challenge my preconceptions and opinions uand art that makes you think that deep is never going to be bad a thing. Growth is everything. Forgiveness is all.

Nothing about the puzzles is revolutionary, but the combat sequences do a good job of letting you decide the best way to approach a group of enemies. The game-play and graphics are as polished and fun as you'd expect. It's a lengthy game so you certainly get your money's worth. Nothing about the puzzles is revolutionary, but the combat sequences do a good job of letting you decide the best way to approach a group of enemies.

For the narrative, I am surprised at the level of controversy it has created, and I have to wonder what many players were expecting, without asking to be pandered to. I enjoyed the direction the game took, and thought it was clever to essentially split the game into two distinct parts. It gave me much more game-play than I thought I would get for the $60 I paid.

The biggest weakness for me was the writing and story-telling. In my opinion, the characters did not get a chance to grow as much as they should have, considering events that occur throughout. Although I am glad these characters are not free from the consequences of their actions, its hard to say any of them really learned a lesson. This results in an ending that feels bleak and hopeless, almost just for the sake of feeling bleak and hopeless.

Despite enjoying the large amount of game-play, the story felt like it was dragging towards the end, and it almost felt like their were several good moments to wrap things up, only to fake out the player and keep things going on and on, only end a moment that is particularly emotionally difficult to stomach. This could have been fixed by either ending maybe 30-60 minutes sooner, or 30-60 minutes even later. Even if just to give the player a sense that a lesson was learned and these characters are not beyond redemption for their choices.

Despite feeling let down by the ending, it did not sour what was overall very enjoyable experience. All other important aspects of a video game were present: Graphics, Game-play, Music.

I do intend to play again on New Game+, and seriously hope their is a third (and final) installment.

The technical and artistic aspects of the game are simply top of the industry and in this regard improves the first part, leaping to a next level facilitated by the advancing technology applied to games (and probably a bigger budget too?).

Playing this game is a gripping and highly enjoyable experience, even if the excess of blood and extreme violence kinda feels a bit unnecessary in some of the fights.

The gameplay felt too similar (almost clonical) to the first game, which is not necessarily a criticism, as I find it to be well balanced, challenging and fun. So why should you change something that works great?

My biggest criticism is the story and character decisions/motivations. As mentioned in many other reviews as far as I could tell, I found the 'revenge above all' motivation too simplistic, repetitive, predictable and even anti-climatic. It's an extreme survival world where I would expect people to focus a bit more on self-preservation with the minimal means they have, and avoid any unnecessary injuries etc as much as possible, as hospitals or doctors are not particularly available... however, we find ourselves constantly forced to put our character in extreme peril just to seek vengeance or something like that... It's a non-essential task most of the time, highly capricious at times, that made it difficult for me to really engage with what we were doing or why we are crossing (again and again) the city side to side just to ask for someone who might know someone, who might lead us to someone who hurt our friend months ago.
When in the original Fallout I'm asked to leave the bunker to search for a highly critical and necessary water filter system that stopped working, I felt the reason why I was travelling post-apocalyptic wastelands and risking everything was 'justified' and necessary. Someone had to do it. On the contrary, most of the time in The last of us 2 I felt very disconnected with our purpose. Thi wasn't the case on the first game either, when looking for a cure sounded like an absolutely understandable objective that justified taking all necessary risk (no cure equals to no hope for anyone, so...).
Also, way too many flashbacks in this game. Some of them confused the hell out of me, between switching timelines and characters, at some point I didn't know what I was doing (and even worse, I stopped caring!).

In any case, a superb game. 8,5/10 for me. Due to the narrative flaws it doesn't reach higher. Technical aspects, art, acting, sounds, music, polished gameplay... so many things are close to a 10.

The combat and gameplay are identical to the original, so they couldn't even be bothered to improve that. Its a convoluted mess that's hard to follow, and just inferior to the original game in every conceivable way. This feels less like a sequel and more like a college kid's fan game. It's also incredibly short, I've already beaten it. Not worth 60$ as it sits. Expand

Not sure what game the critics were playing but I guess in the backs of their minds the freebies to review on PS5 must have been on their minds because this is not a "Must play" this is a "must avoid".

Great graphics, motion capturing, background design, and voice acting. Props to the Naughty Dog team for that. However, it is a horrible story that unravels any real point of caring about the characters later on. It's the last jedi and game of thrones season 8 again, which is not a compliment Neil. No point in making a third game unless this "story" is just a dream or it's entirely new characters in a different area. This franchise is forever marred, which is unfortunate sadly. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 visually and cinematically is a masterpiece and unfortunately that's about as far as it goes in the end.

The gameplay is well honestly it didn't do much to change or enhance what was already present from the first game in any meaningful way. Sure its smooth, can be fun and of course well done for what it is but that was to be expected I would think.

This game franchise from day one for me has always been about the story.

Unfortunately I found this story to be very poorly paced and delivered the big moments in a way that even though you want to sympathize with the characters involved you just can't because the new characters didn't get the same treatment and ND storytelling magic (That use used to be known for) that Joel, Tommy and Sarah got in the first game where in the first 20 minutes you went through so many emotions and it left you crying like a baby before the game actually even starts. Because of that and the fact that the big moment happens so quickly you have almost no time to build a true emotional bond with the new characters and all you can do is hate them and every action the game forces you to take there after all the way up to the end where the payoff is nil of any meaning to all that came before. It's not a good or unique revenge story in the end if anything it pushes the revenge to long and too hard for the ending to be what it was. It's not even unique to a world where half the population are now fungus zombies and saddest of all they take a backseat to the entire story of this game and might as well not even exist.

This game like its precursor stands and falls by its plot. And the plot here is not the eloquent, bitter-sweet journey that loops back on itself like in part one, rather it's an overbearingly manipulative suffer fest meant to drive home simple tropes about being blasé to violence and picking sides. Such a bad game. There is basically no “gameplay” at all, and it’s like watching a movie. At this point, Sony just needs to release TLOU as feature films instead of pairing the story with half-assed broken gameplay that’s easy to exploit.

They couldn’t even get the story right either, and it’s filled with SJW pandering. Ellie’s character development is non-existent, and her personal

Not only does this game not give you any sense of catharsis for going through the barely evolved game play structure introduced from the last game, but it spits on the characters that were developed so thoroughly with care in the last game. If I could give a score based on factors here's how it would play out:

1/10 for Story, 9/10 for Graphics and Animation, 3/10 for Gameplay.

My real score would be to give this maybe a 5/10 Average Score but Metacritic would rather just delete all the negative "bot" reviews and keep all the perfect 10/10's from actual bots.

Never before in the history of video games, have so many good characters been sacrificed for so few pathetic, meaningless and belligerent characters

If you enjoyed the story of the first game at all, stay away...They have completely ruined the characters that the first game set up.

Take the best parts of the first game's story and throw them in the trash, up the graphics a bit as would be expected anyway and now you have this game

After almost a month dedicated to this game, I finished and 100% TLOU2. Took me about 40 hours to platinum the game. Here are some thoughts:

Pros: +World building +Music score +Animation +Level design +Lighting effects +Impressive accessibility options (even if I won't need them) +Attention to detail (is full of things most won't notice) +A technical achievement. Cons:

    Cons:
-Although I don't have a problem with Abby she didn't click on me, in a game like this it is all about the engagement of the player with the characters.
-Abby/Lev's story didn't feel as powerful and meaningful as Joel/Ellie's.
-Game dragged in the 2nd half, felt too long.

TLOU2 has it's own identity. I'm glad it happened, but also see some flaws when they decided to come back to a story that was perfect. The reception probably would be better if they moved away from Joel and Ellie's story. Even if I didn't like some things, the game is incredible.

Stunning visuals but disappointing story. I grew very impatient in the second half of the game and just wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
