    I'm not used to write reviews, in fact this one is my first one. I'm forced to do it to fight against those who think that this game is junk. What I can say is that this game is probably the best game that I've ever played in my life, and belive me, I've played many. It is such an intense and shocking experience that I will probably never forget. Every carachter is so well defined, so real that I still hardbly belive that they don't exist. For those who think that THAT carachter shouldn't have died, I can say: well, what did you expect? 25 hours of the same stuff that happened in the first game? No one wants a more of the same! Certain events were needed to push the story forward in a belivable way and they did it brilliantly. Great congratulations to Dr. Uckman and his team. If you don't like this game, you are not ready for it, or worse, you don't deserve it...… Expand

    This game is a masterpiece. I never take the time to write reviews, but I feel that all the low scores for this game are either fake reviews or just completely wrong. This is the best gameplay and graphics I have ever seen.     In my personal experience, the death of Joel was an impact but did not blind me to hate Abby for the rest of the game. I managed to empathize with her, and enjoyed her just as much as Ellie.

    This game shows 2 interesting narratives that could have been more powerful were they played in an alternating way, for example showing flashbacks of the relationship between Owen and Abby and later showing how Ellie kills Owen and Mel. This would have been a bit more empathizing for Abby's character.

    Overall, a breathtaking game in what refers to graphics, varied combat mechanics (Though sometimes repetitive at points), and a story that was not perfect, but not garbage either.    … Expand

I’m not gonna lie, that beginning, and the clever way that marketing made you think otherwise. It hurt, it hurt a lot, but that’s the point! It wants you to feel! And boy does it make you feel. Again, kinda thrown off half way through when you play as Abby. But It is an absolute story must! Not only that! But it opens up the gameplay in a way that genuinely makes sense! Like, come on, Ellie couldn’t rock a flame thrower and do some of the things Abby does. So it makes total sense gameplay wise! I Also came to love Abby she is an amazing character! Every single character is amazing even the enemies! Now on to the gameplay in My opinion it improves on every single gameplay element from the first one and even uncharted 4 as well as adding so many amazing new gameplay aspects and even some awesome “boss” encounters. The story shows the perspective of both sides of the conflict, rather than simple black and white one dimensional characters. The subtlety of facial animation allows higher emotional expression and portrayal of internal conflicts of all characters.
    Gameplay is great and allows for wide variety of approaches to pretty much every single combat encounter.
    Graphics are gorgeous, with highly detailed, lush nature environments contrasting with gloomy decay of human settlements.
    Minimalistic guitar score makes every note that much more impactful.
    I would definitely recommend everyone to experience this game first-hand to fully appreciate the effort and quality of it.    … Expand

    Masterful Story Telling! The story is rich with World Building and Characters. The theme of vengeance and its repercussions feels oppressive in every scene and the cycle of violence is unrelenting. It's okay to disagree with a character story, but some of y'all haven't beat the game and it shows.

    The game is brilliant. Amazing graphics, amazing fun gameplay. Only down side was the story is a troll compared to the trailers. But its minor. If you are one of them ones that is obsessed with stories then read a book or watch a movie. The graphics and gameplay wins it all. Thank you naughty dogs for this brilliant game :D

    Utterly incredible, a rare masterpiece to round off the generation. The story is gritty, neatly paced and gut wrenching. Every step of the journey is tense and uncertain. Each combat scenario can be approached in a dozen ways, while the graphics and controls have been refined to perfection. The PS4 has not seen such a cinematic experience since God of War.

    The graphics, acting and just overall gameplay is absolutely stunning, and the narrative is excellent, putting you through one hell of an emotional rollarcoaster. This game really can't get high enough praise, and really was worth the 7 year wait.

No other developer in the industry who's on the same level in terms of budget and exposure touches these subjects in quite the same way. Despite the fictional nature of the setting, it's one of the most grounded human stories I've ever experienced. At no point does it make things easy - the light years-ahead facial capture technology used here isn't just a touch of polish, it's used to convey the characters' feelings with nuance and subtlety unprecedented in the medium. The story respects the player enough to never explicitly tell them what they're supposed to feel, and is mature enough to understand that the player doesn't always have to agree with what their character is doing.

    This truly is a once-in-a-generation presentation, from story to technology to gameplay, which is frankly another aspect of the game that is remarkably well done. With a story and setting this fleshed-out, personally I'd be OK with less than stellar gameplay. But they've expanded upon this as well, creating more traversal options for a more open world, combat areas with dozens of paths in every direction, AI that will surprise you when you take it for granted, and weapon/crafting systems that are as as slick and intuitive as ever. All this while maintaining great pacing, offering varied enemy encounters, puzzles, and exploration.

    Can see where the sequel does not reach the heights in storytelling and game play development as its predecessor, but was overall enthralled by the the characters, game design, and plot lines. Would recommend this franchise and am eager to see how the world building in The Last of Us series continues.

    You are Ellie. You embark on a journey across Seattle, fueled by feelings of hate and retribution - you drag a long friends, share music and song, violence and death together. Through this game you will feel love, hate, sadness, laughter, joy and glimmers of hope. The story and game play challenges the player beyond any entertainment medium has done for me, churned my emotions and made me empathize with characters I vowed I could not. At times I put away my controller in disgust, even stop playing to grasp some air before it pulled me back to continue.

    As the credits rolled, I just thought what a devastatingly beautiful, narrative tour de force.

    The game is and will forever be controversial and divisive. But to me, it stands tall and is currently my favorite narrative driven game. Play this game. Buy this game.    … Expand

As me, many people are here giving reasonable reviews (not all people). I feel pleasant but at the same time a little bit frustrated. When you play the video game, you feel it is like a drug, because you cannot stop playing it. Game play is amazing, graphics are incredible and video game's duration is unbelievable. So, what's the problem with this game? Story.
    We have been waiting this video game for 7 years. I'm a fanatic of the first video game and its probably my favourite video game. I feel disappointed to see decisions they decided to do at this time, deciding to kill probably one of the most beloved characters of the games history. But that's not all, because they bring him to us with flashbacks that obviously don't treat him in a good way. REMEMBER THAT JOEL KILLED FIREFLIES TO PROTECT ELLIE BECAUSE HE LOVED HER! Was it too difficult to give us what we want for the game? I honestly say you they don't get their pretended message like they did with first game, or at least I don't understand it...
    But that's not all, because they make us to play with the character that killed Joel during a long time in the game, trying to humanize her with different moments along her gameplay, and they didn't get their target, because I honestly feel during her gameplay she was the killer of Joel, feeling really disappointed every step I walk with Abby.
    I don't want to talk about the final, because I think it's not necessary after reasons I give on this review. I only want to remark that I dislike a lot Joel's cruel death, and the way the told us all the game (the narrative), finishing review giving my actual marks:

Beautiful score and soundtrack, incredible motion capture and acting, intense moments, exciting gameplay, and nice stealth sections. For me, the story was powerful, thought provoking and very full-on. It’s very brutal at times, difficult to stomach at some points. The thing that separates people who like this game and those who don’t comes down to if you are feeling empathy for Abby, and characters like Lev reflecting Joel’s relationship with Ellie helped me to feel that empathy. Thanks to this, the ending was very satisfying, emotional.… Expand

    Думал что после перовой части The Last of Us, разработчики не смогут превзойти самих себя и выдадут нам просто хорошую игру с неплохим сюжетом, красивой графикой и отполированными механиками из первой части. Но как же я ошибался, игра подарила мне такие эмоции, которые я до этого не испытывал ни в одной игре, в фильмах и книгах да, но не в игре. Сюжет это просто эмоциональная карусель, такой спектр эмоций я давно не получал даже от фильмов. Геймплей и анимация на высшем уровне, отношение к деталям наверное на уровне игр Rockstar Games. По сравнению с первой частью The Last of Us схватки стали намного динамичнее и вариативнее. Местами игра казалась затянутой, но многослойная концовка расставила всё на свои места.
    После прохождения остаётся ощущение опустошённости, ещё несколько дней осознавал и переваривал информацию, после чего решил, что хочу пройти игру снова, чем сейчас и занимаюсь.

    Это моё первое мнение на Metacritic, игру прошёл неделю назад, но только сейчас решил, что нужно оставить свой отзыв об игре.

    Моя оценка 10 из 10, не потому что я считаю игру абсолютно идеальной и в ней нет недостатков, а потому что ни одна другая игра не смогла мне подарить даже половину эмоций, что подарила The Last of Us Part II.    … Expand

    The Last of Us series is a testament to how imagination can become reality. The first game exceeded my expectations as the cliche zombie world transformed into a profound experience where our “hero” of the story wasn’t meant to be the poster boy for moral reasoning. He was flawed like all of us and capable of making selfish decisions when the world needed selflessness. The second game was so unbelievably good in terms of gameplay, story, characters, etc. I didn’t feel like I was playing a game in a fictional world but watching a movie of what humans are capable of in regards to love and hate. It made me question our sense of good versus evil and how both can be misconstructed as the righteous path. While I agree with others that it was hard to find Abby’s character likable, I thought her story was the perfect opportunity in showcasing your enemies weaknesses and strengths and how it shapes a person. In that way, I understood her character better and who Ellie was going up against. My only critic is the Santa Barbra chapter that felt out of place (the Rattlers felt like a rushed plotline) and a reason to bring the characters back together again. Overall I commend Naughty Dog for taking a risk and making a game that I don’t believe was overall focused on revenge but understanding how love can make us do terrible things.… Expand

    This has set a new benchmark in storytelling for games. It deviates from a traditional narrative structure, subverts your expectations. Finally, it breaks your heart, I've never been on a more ambiguous and conflicted journey in a game, it's a credit to the medium and I think this subversion of a traditional narrative ark is what makes it so haunting and difficult for people to digest.

    I don’t care what anyone says I loved this game. I was worried because I know nothing could compare to the first but I think the second was just as good.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a Masterpiece, and it gets there not by being a traditional narrative, not by giving the player what they want. It gets there by being bold, and having something to say. Those who aren't willing to feel a truly nuanced empathy for characters who have wronged them, to relinquish the self are going to misattribute this game as somehow lesser. This 25 hour long epic is not about "revenge" it's about Trauma and how our selfish notions of revenge, retribution, and hatred only feed into our collective trauma as well as the personal.

    This story isn't lazy, or bad, it's actively eschewing the lazy tropes and bad writing that's been done over and over. The plot is framed as a revenge story but the story is not, and I guarantee that if you're willing to step beside yourself and feel raw, intense feelings of regret, loss, and a sense of conflict so deep it forces you to put the controller down for a few hours, you're going to have a story that treats you like an adult willing to feel complex emotions, and hold conflicting ideas.

    If you however want to be reminded of how fun things were before games had something to say, or if you want a pleasant time playing through a game that holds your hand or intends to leave you in awe, this isn't the game for you. It's not interested in escapism, it's not interested in clear story telling tropes and cliches, it's not interested in good vs evil, it's interested in Human suffering, how we all feel it, how we perpetuate it, and how the momentary releases we seek out to "end" our suffering only deepens it in ourselves and others.    … Expand

    + I appreciate the LGBT representation

    - I might be wrong but I can't imagine how humans like Abby or Ellie can be so human and brutal at the same time (is that possible?)

    Graphics amazing! Gameplay incredible! Story, unexpected. A lot of people criticize the story, but this is because they expect the happiness of the characters. I think it's a great story because it shows you the cruelty of this apocalyptic world and includes very sad moments that you never will find on other games. So, a deep and emotional story that will make you think. 100% recommended!

So often AAA games feel safe, almost pandering in their simplicity. Rarely can they match the artistic integrity of cinema and literature. I feel here, as in the first game, we are seeing the envelope being pushed. It's thrilling.

    The Last of Us Part II didn't feel perfect all the way through, I'll gladly admit it. I didn't always agree with the pacing or the story choices. It could easily have been shorter. Tighter.

    But I was so invested, as if taken by some kind of fever. Sleep became a secondary function, necessary only to gather energy for the next gaming session. The gameplay loop; explore, gather, fight, plot... for me it just clicked. Some of my favourite moments were just gathering alcohol and rags.

    A technical marvel in every single department, I am thrilled and delighted to see how far video games have evolved in my lifetime, from DOS to cinematic wonders. The acting and writing of such a calibre that I had a constant lump in my throat. It's the kind of cultural experience that doesn't come around every day. Created with such purpose and intent, one can feel the will of the creator in the finished work.

    It's okay to hate it. Art that doesn't divide can hardly be called just that.

    I've never felt the way this game made me feel. Shame, guilt, hatred. To get me to empathise with someone I utterly despised at the beginning of the game is an unbelievable feat and I thought the way it dealt with grief and the complexity of human interaction was fantastic.

    I expected to hate this game after reading the descriptions of the leaks a few weeks ago. I decided not to cancel my pre-order on the hope that they were false because of my attachment to the first game.     Gameplay was pretty good, not great by today’s standards, but good enough. The stealth was fantastic though it’s too easy unless you play on a hard difficulty and it's pretty much the same as the original with a few upgrades (not a horrible thing). Graphics and scenery are incredibly beautiful, it could be the most intricately crafted and beautiful game I have ever played.

    Story was a roller coaster of emotional reactions...REAL emotions. When Ellie finds a guitar and sings the first time it shook me to the core. The story had a few plot holes and significantly unlikely "coincidences" but they didn't ruin the story as a whole. Many parts of this game were nearly torture to play especially the 1 on 1 fights but that was clearly intentional. It's certainly not the story that we as fans of the original wanted or expected but it works (I think??).

    The ending (no spoilers) left a bad taste in my mouth, but I think that was the point. I was disappointed by the ending at the time but in retrospect it completes the story and finalizes the overall message of the plot.

    This was one of the best and worst gaming experiences of my life.... I don’t think I will ever replay it because I don’t think I could get through it. That said it was a work of art, brilliant, risky as hell, brutally violent and morally ambiguous. If you left a negative review and didn’t finish or even play the game you suck.    … Expand

    Story: some people are upset over killing Joel . I love Joel . But he killed innocent surgeons And medical staff and more and more of people and probably killed the hope of humanity in finding a cure just to have Ellie to remind him Of what it feels like to be a father . Joel has to die no doubt about it plus he is old af. I dont see any additional role of him . Personally I find the story perfectly done

    This games story, although divisive, is fantastic! Many people have made snap judgements about the games story before actually playing it for themselves. If the leaks didn’t come out and people went into the game with open minds they might have different options and they might have had a easier time seeing what the game was showing them.

The gameplay was smooth and incredibly fun, and I'm already playing it from start to finish again just to soak it all in even more. Lot's of people question the story but I think it was really well executed. The cast as expected from a Naughty Dog game is likeable and talented. The enemies do get a bit repetitive after a while, but I'm pretty sure that's just a shooter video game problem in general. I personally loved finding the notes and artifacts and learning more about the enemy factions through that. The game does a really good job of making you feel for your character, no matter who you are playing as. The new characters are interesting and sometimes I hated them while other times I loved them. The thing about going into this post apocalyptic game is to remember that not everyone will make it out alive, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you will understand the situations that you are placed in. Naughtydog stated that this is not a 'fun' game, and while the usually grim story does reflect this idea, since often times I disagreed with the things I had to make Ellie do, I did have a lot of fun while playing! My only gripe is that it seemed to drag on for hours longer than necessary with the epilogue. I understand the importance of what they did there, but I would have been perfectly happy if they left out the entire piece with the rattlers.… Expand

Все эти ощущения можно прочувствовать только на самой последней сложности. Если снизить её хотя бы до предпоследней, атмосфера выживания сразу пропадает.

    4) Графика в игре заставляет игрока восхищаться каждой мелочью, продуманной в игре. Начиная с покрытой снегом ветки, которую главная героиня задевает плечом, заканчивая красивейшими общими планами останков человеческой цивилизации, над которыми природа взяла верх. Отсюда можно сделать вывод, что атмосфера The last os Us 2 ни оставляет игроку ни единого шанса, кроме как проникнуться и наслаждаться красотами этого опасного, но всё таки по своему прекрасного мира.

    5) Многие оставляют негативные отзывы основывая их на том, что в игре якобы очень активно продвигается тема сексуальных меньшинств.
    Меньше одного процента ИЗ ВСЕЙ ИГРЫ отводится ЛГБТ повестке. Мне кажется, люди, которые основывают на этом негативные отзывы, вообще не играли в The last of Us 2.

    6) Музыкальная составляющая просто великолепна. Каждый эмбиент, каждая песня, исполненная главными героями, не оставляет игрока равнодушным и заставляет испытывать весь спектр положительных эмоций. Музыка в титрах заслуживает отдельного внимания

    7) Добавленные механики, открывают новые возможности. Казалось бы, обычная способность ложиться, но то как она реализована в купе с высокой травой, даёт в результате великолепный стелс. Механика игры на гитаре показала, что сенсорную панель геймпада можно использовать в абсолютно неожиданных случаях.

Yes, the plot is about revenge, but the story is about Ellie’s grief just as the first Last of Us was about Joel’s grief. The first game mirrors the second game in that regard. The first Last of Us game is the whole “cure for mankind zombie apocalypse cliche” plot, but the story is about Joel’s grief. The Last of Us part 2 makes you walk in Abby’s shoes who is essentially in the same boat as Ellie in the beginning of the game. And if by the end of the game, you still want to kill Abby, I’m sorry to say that you might’ve beat the game physically, but you didn’t win the game Naughty Dog was playing with your heart or mind. This other review can explain this a lot better so i’ll link it. But I’ll leave you with a thought from that review. There is no difficulty setting in the game or in life, that makes forgiving someone easier. While The Last of Us part 2 has flaws mechanically, the story is intricate and painful. It’s supposed to hit you hard emotionally and essentially tether you to Ellie. Amazing story, amazing graphics, 10/10 for me.… Expand

If it were a movie, it'd be one of my favorites.

    Story aside, let's talk about ambiance and realism first: When I walked the streets of Seattle with Ellie, especially when she was on her own, I felt extremely on edge, because it felt so damn real to me. It's the most immersive game I ever played.

    Most people would agree, that the graphics are great, but even though the graphics are absolutely amazing, they are only a cog in the wheel. What makes the ambiance of this game so real and immersive is also the sound, the enemy behavior, the way the protagonist interacts with their companion and the way the characters react to certain things. Then there's the level design, the way you feel like you can always go wherever you want, even though it's not an open world. You don't feel like you're trapped in a tunnel with only one way to go.

    I usually try to search every area in a game, but in TLOU2 I decided to only go a certain route sometimes, because it felt more real to me. The game made me feel like I could explore more, but it would be a risk that might not be worth taking. Through this, in my head, the areas I went through felt huge and real.

    Where there's graphics, there's details and design. The streets, buildings, nature, but especially every single room was so damn detailed. Every single room you go through, looks like a real room, where a real person lived in at some point. They all have their own character. I've never seen anything like it. And you just walk through them. You don't have to stop and admire all the details. You can't when you're on the run and the game doesn't expect you to do so. But it will blow your mind, when you go into photo mode and see how real the environment looks.

    The cars look real, the vegetation looks real, hell even the damn garbage looks real.

    And then there's the intense stealth and combat gameplay. The way enemies talk to each other and call out each others names, the fact they don't always walk in a straight line but look around etc. The transition between cutscenes and gameplay, the animations, the physics. I could go on and on, but in the end, you have to experience it yourself. In regards of immersion and ambiance, this game sets the bar.

    The Story

    Alright, let's actually talk about the story though. No spoilers.

    The story is dark, it is tragic, it's mature, it's unconventional, it's brutal. This is not your typical videogame story. It's a story about moral dilemma. It's emotional and you'll end up thinking about it and discussing it long after you played it. The characters aren't very quirky or anything, but they're extremely authentic. All the conversations seem very organic.

    Then there's the cutscenes, the acting, the music: Absolutely phenomenal. Simply looking at a facial expression tells you so much about what that character is thinking. This impression is boosted by the details of the faces and facial animations.

    To me, every twist and turn made perfect sense in the end.

    The Hate

    People who couldn't stop themselves from learning all about the leaks and judged the whole game and its developers by it and joined the TLOU2-hate-circlejerk before even giving the game a chance: The creators haven't ruined your game, you have ruined it for yourself.

    You made a choice to hate on the game, without even having played it. You judge the game by the spoilers and let other people tell you how to feel about it let them tell you how right you are being upset, but you haven't played it.

    I feel Schadenfreude about everyone who's been utterly toxic, sending spoilers to others and sending hate messages to developers and voice actors. I'm glad you didn't buy the game and experience it. And if you do come around and buy the game one day when it's on sale, you'll be biased and you won't be able to enjoy it. You'll only play to nitpick and prove your point. Or maybe you'll end up secretly liking it or even loving it and you'll feel too ashamed to admit it and you'll feel like a dick for behaving the way you did. Either way, nothing comes close to the wonderful experience I had with this game, which is the best, most beautiful and impressive game I have ever played in my entire life.

    To anyone who has played the game with an open mind and ended up not liking certain parts or even the whole story and are able to express themselves in a mature manner: I fully respect your opinion and I don't have any issues with you at all.

From the beautiful, detailed world to the nail biting moment to moment gameplay, there is nothing quite like it.     This game was ground breaking, and the story was so impactful that I’m still thinking about weeks after I beat it. It doesn’t hold your hand, and it’s dark realism will be hard for many to swallow.

    Great game. Story is realy complex but Great Story telling. Mentally a rollercoaster. Grafic, music, game mechanics and Level Design is absolutly spot on!

    I played it on hard for a real survival feel.

    This is the only game I have ever played where at the beginning I was killing everyone in my way and at the end I was intentionally avoiding conflicts. Too bad for those who are too stubborn to see from other's perspective. This game really was developed for a certain persona.

    An absolute masterpiece! What Naughty Dogs has created is beyond incredible, and I think that this is truly the beginning of the next stage of what video games can be when done properly. A very worthy sequel, and a very great story! Definitely recommend!

    Not as good as the first. But if you read the leaks and didn’t like them, the game’s not for you. At least not at 60$ but maybe on discount. I personally wasn’t a fan of the decision but still accepted it. I think you know what I’m talking about but if you don’t then lucky you

Enemies will interact with each other, they emote when they are hurt or killed. There is so much attention to detail its really amazing. There is a character who shows what seems to be PTSD and as someone who also has PTSD it was very realistic and relateable. It was animated wonderfully, almost too well. I'm glad that people can play this game and experience that and hopefully feel how important it is to the character. The story is so great when you take your time with this game. There are many things that one can miss if they choose to blow through the game very quickly. My recommendation is to read all the notes you can and become invested and immersed in the world.… Expand

    Es una pena que exista tanta gente idiota que no sepa valorar una obra maestra como tlou 2. La gente de naughty dogs siempre hace grandes juegos y esta vez no ha sido distinto. Tienen todos mis respetos, estoy disfrutando cada momento de este juego. Ánimo ante las críticas tan injustas de la gente y gracias por este gran juego.

    Simplesmente o jogo da minha vida. Senti uma mistura de emoções ao jogar essa obra prima e ao chegar ao fim, senti um vazio inexplicável. Era como se uma parte de mim tivesse morrido. Só tenho a agradecer a Naughty Dog por ter feito esse jogo incrivelmente maravilhoso. Agora é só esperar pelo GOTY no fim do ano

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
