    the game is awesome, we get to see different perspectives from this apocalyptic world, such a shame the actual game critis get buried under the review bombing, there's no 'SHW propaganda" or anything, everything just comes out as natural, i really hopr once peoe get to see the full scope, the rating will start to come up

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is definitely the Last Jedi of video games. It subverted almost every expectation i had for this game. We can all agree the soundtrack and graphics are AMAZING, especially considering this game is running on console, but the story is where everyone is divided. It took me roughly 17 hours to beat and when the credits started to role i felt DISGUSTED! "what game did i just play? What was the point in all of this. Nothing was achieved by anything that i had done on my journey to the end."

    But then i went to bed and thought about it. I thought about it a lot. I was so affected emotionally by how it made me feel i didn't realise how much it got to me. As Neil Druckmann stated, "the first game is about love, this game is about hate". I didn't hate it because it was poorly written, cause its not, i hated it because i wasn't thinking it from every characters perspective.

    When playing the second act of the game as Abby, all i was thinking about was "why in gods green earth am i playing as someone i absolutely loathe AND FOR SO GOD DAMN LONG! What game did i pay for?" i asked myself. But then as her arch went on I understood her head space, it got to the point i even questioned why i loved joel so much to begin with. Context also, last of us one is my favorite game ever, so much so i bought the custom PS4 pro and collectors edition. I could see where Abby is coming from, just as much as i could see where Ellie was coming from. I read a lot of people saying this game has tarnished the legacy of such a beloved character (being Joel), but the way i see it, it made you see the flaws in the people you love. Something a lot of people have a hard time doing even in their own personal lives. This game brought me to a place emotionally no other game has before, which is why i rate it so highly. If you have only seen the leaks without context, i highly recommend you play it as it really can only be defined by the overall journey and the context brought to light because of it.

    And i know most of you haven't played it cause when I beat it, i was one of 0.5% of people who owned the game who had done so. You trying to tell me 36k people make up 0.5% of the game??? im gonna hit F to doubt.

    I didn't give it a 10/10 because of how misleading the marketing was, and not for the reasons you think. I was so not onboard playing as Abby cause i did not get myself into the head space to do so. If it even slightly alluded to the fact in the games marketing that id be playing as someone else for almost a full half of the game (without any narrative context obviously) i would have enjoyed that portion of the experience a lot more.

    This game is BOLD, and begs the question of what defines right and wrong. Both characters are protagonists and Both are antagonists in their own right. I don't think I've ever seen such perfect form of story telling, as well as such well written characters. You will not like this game if you refuse to accept people who you adore have done **** things for their own self interests, and that people you hate have good reason to feel and do the things they do, and vise versa.    … Expand

    Entiendo la fustacion de la gente con respecto a la historia del juego, pero desde hace ya varios meses los creadores no vienen avisando que en esta entrega querían mostranos la realidad de un mundo como lo es the last of us donde NO HAY HÉROES. Si te sientes frustrado por como aún personaje al que tanto querías lo trataron como a un extra es entendible, pero no por eso tienes que ser tanEntiendo la fustacion de la gente con respecto a la historia del juego, pero desde hace ya varios meses los creadores no vienen avisando que en esta entrega querían mostranos la realidad de un mundo como lo es the last of us donde NO HAY HÉROES.     I believe that this game is really great, and that it doesn't deserve the reviews it's getting. It conveyed the message that it was trying to convey through it's storytelling, and i couldn't go to sleep out of anticipation to play the game the next game.

Had this since launch day, genuinely the way they handled Joel's death to the way they handled the complicated relationship between Ellie and Dina is genuinely amazing, i have found my new favorite game since last of us part 1. They stepped up the graphics, stepped up gameplay,stepped up the story telling,and genuinely made me cry around 6 times now.     I've waited so long and it was worth it. The game is one of the best on ps4. Strong story with strong ending, gorgeous graphics, well-written characters and gameplay its just masterpiece. Worth buying for any money

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know this game is really polarizing for a bunch of fans and I was slightly disappointed with the ending. But it took me a while to internalize it and think about the story as a whole. Yes the killing of a main character sucks, but this isn’t the first game to do that. The LGBTQ aspects of the game DO NOT bother me whatsoever because it doesn’t make it the main focus of the game. There is no doubt that everything but the story is amazing. Crafting is familiar, weapon upgrading is familiar, the visuals are amazing, voice and motion capture is amazing, combat is way way better. Open level design, etc. Do I think Ellie should’ve killed Abby? I really wanted her to. It would’ve finally given her closure and justice. But where would that have gotten her in the end? She still would’ve ended up going back to a home without Dina and JJ.

    As much as Ellie hates Abby for killing Joel, what Ellie says to Joel the night before he dies “I don’t think I can ever forgive you for that, but I would like to try.” Also kind of ties into the final fight with Abby. She can never forgive Abby for killing Joel (even though she had every reason to) but she’d like to try forgive because of what Joel did to Ellie. She was on the verge of leaving Joel for good because of the lies he told her. Overall, it’s not a terrible game, it’s not an amazing game, I would be categorized it between good and great. It’s definitely not as good as the 1st game. I also don’t think it really lives to the 7 year hype. Again, this game will polarize the fans, but I think everyone needs to step back and really really understand the story in great length. The game was about HATE, I wasn’t really expecting a happy ending to a game about HATE.    … Expand

    I can't help but feel like most of these reviews must have been written by sexist homophobes. This game is heartwrenching and tense, just like the first one. Maybe this game is a little slower with pacing but I kinda had to feel like there was payoff to the end of the first one. It's a John wick style plot and I absolutely love it

The Last of Us Part II has just as much allure as the original with stunning graphics, emotional character development, and nonstop suspense.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my honest opinion I think this game was phenomenal, just like the first. I usually have an open mind and take a realistic approach to everything in my life so I feel that Joel’s death wasn’t shocking in any way. Similar to Glenn dying in the Walking Dead. Gameplay and Graphics are improved and the survival aspect for the game feels realistic. Ammo, Med-kits, and Supplies are all scarce. The story isn’t necessarily bad either like everyone seems to say. Just because the Hero doesn’t save the day doesn’t mean it’s bad storytelling. The major problem is that the plot is scattered everywhere when there’s flashbacks so it feels like a mess. Also, the 2nd half of the game where you play as Abby was drawn out way too much and I couldn’t help but feel no sympathy for her through 90% of her gameplay. It could've been shown with a couple cutscenes rather than 5+ hours of gameplay. The game made me get a soft spot for side characters rather than the main characters. Owen, Dina, Jesse, and Mel are all very well written characters with decent backstories. However, I feel that Ellie didn't have enough time to show more of her character. Abby’s character is the exact opposite. Too much was shown of her backstory and most of it didn’t even add to the story. At most points in this game there’s a cutscene with music where I would believe sounds like an ending but it just keeps going onto more gameplay. If they wanted this game to be a lot better, I think they should’ve made Abby’s gameplay DLC but still keeping her backstory in the main game through cutscenes or clues that Ellie finds out. Now let’s talk about the ending phases. Having to play as Abby in the “final” showdown was really a poor choice. Gamers want to play as Ellie in a fight, not Abby. But the 2nd showdown in Santa Barbara was really fun to play. Reminded me of the showdown in Uncharted 4’s ending. The thing that ruined my “reward” for playing this game is that Ellie didn’t kill Abby, even after she bit her two fingers off. That satisfaction from the fight was ruined and I felt nothing for the revenge tale. The actual ending I find to be very heartwarming though. Ellie is no longer able to play the guitar because of her missing fingers and it gives a flashback to see Joel playing the same song. Every Time I saw Joel in the flashbacks I couldn’t help but shed a tear. The game ends with Ellie setting the guitar down and walking off to hopefully find Dina and her child. A bleak but open ending which describes this whole game. This game isn’t for people who want the hero to win like almost every game does. It’s to tell a story about a dark realistic world in a post-apocalyptic setting. Overall I thought the game was fantastic. Besides some parts from the game that could be cut I have no big problem with it. Everyone seems to go at Neil Druckmann for “bad storytelling” even though he wrote half of Uncharted 4 and wrote all of The Last Of US (2 games that were critically acclaimed). The story telling and writing isn’t bad, it’s just not what the normal person/gamer wanted. If you play this game, remember to have an open mind and see the different perspectives of every character in the story. It's a solid game and I feel that it's worth playing.… Expand

    As a long time film critic im not new to **** people being **** over something as stupid as a video game. Most reviews of this game are the worst thing to me. The first couple of hours are not anything special but really it picks up and becomes truly amazing. The new character of Abby is easily one of my favorite characters in gaming period. Alot of controversy surrends her saying that she has poor writing but personally as a kid coming from similar circumstances I can personally say that she is perfectly written. The game has no to little plot holes which I see in many reviews they state. This is false. Last of us 2 is truly a masterpiece of both storytelling and gameplay. Most of the negative reviews are review bombing against the "gay" agenda which if that is you. Go **** yourself.… Expand

I really enjoyed it and was surprised by some of the things that happened, things I nor my friends expected but even though I was mad at first I remembered what type of game it was and put it in a real world situation and it all made since. Overall this was an astounding game, it’s in a tie for game of the year with Final Fantasy VII Remake for me… Expand

    Wow ! I have never seen so many homophones coming together and hate a game that was out for only 4 hours and already had more reviews in 4 hours than the original game xD. The game is not perfect obviously , and it’s not bad either, some bold choices on the story part honestly I enjoyed 70% of the story , some things I didn’t really liked. But overall it’s a great game definitely a 8/10.Wow !     An excellent game with an excellent story. It perfectly complements the first opus. It is very strong emotionally and has an excellent lifespan (I finished it in almost 22 hours of play). I hope to have a sequel to complete and finish this story.

I've heard things like it's not open enough yet at points the area's you can explore are substantial if you look.

    People saying it's boring.....you move to one area kill enemies then walk around for 20 mins with nothing. Yes at some points there isn't a lot of action but that's not what this game is about. You need atmosphere, a lot of the time the down time moments are to allow conversation between characters or simply to allow some atmosphere. Also a lot of the time these moments allow exploration where notes can be found for more world building or safe codes. Equally the contrast between the quiet moments and then the moments of action are key to the experience.
    This game is about story, it's about creating a believable world with relatable characters. It hasn't evolved a whole load from tlou 1 but then why change something great? If anything this improves on the first. Movement and conflict is so much smoother with more fluidity to motion. The only criticism I can find is that there are a few light glitches but v rare and insignificant.
    Finally anyone bombing this score because there is a feminist undertone or because Ellie is a Lesbian who has a relationship with (shock horror) a girl.......
    Go look at yourself in the mirror and question what you are doing.
    The game is excellent. Tlou 1 is one of my fav games ever and this definitely joins that list. Well done naughty dog.    … Expand

It makes no sense why Ellie didn’t kill Abby, she killed so many people and lost so many people on her path to revenge just to let her go in the end because a flashback of Joel playing a guitar. Makes 0 sense she’s lost everything for nothing. Couldn’t have ended any worse. There is to many holes in the story, but in the end i enjoyed it, really should’ve went a different route with the ending tho Neil.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MY TOTAL SCORE | 10 | - Everything i wanted in this game was to play like Joel and Ellie. NaughtyDog dind't gave me that chance. Instead they paired me with the most unpleasant situation that i lived in a videogame. I had to see with my head pinned down, how my favourite character died like a dog. Then, i wanted to cry and kill everyone. But the game forced me into Abbie's storyline. I felt awkward playing as her. Part of me wanted to drop the controller and let the infected kill her over and over again. As the story was told, i understood that Abbie's group were people too. There was no good or bad guys, no black or white, even the Scar were gray. What Joel did in the first game had a major impact and ruined their lifes. Even if i was attached to Ellie, i understood. Every flashback, every cutscene was perfect, and had the perfect timing. I wanted to cry every time Ellie played Future Days.
    This game is PERFECT and it diserves a high score and probably GOTY award, but understand this: the game deals with mature content, storyline and character developement. That's why it has a low review score. Because people wanted a cheesy revenge story, plain characters and straight-forward moral situtations.

    MY REVIEW:
    CHARACTERS | 10 | - One of the best character developement that i ever seen. I feel attached with each and every one of them. I hated Abbie and the Wolves, but the game drives you into their story right after your favourite character was killed by them and shows you that they are people too, and that (from Abbie's point of view) Joel diserved what he got. Abbie was Ellie's Joel.

    STORY | 10 | - The game is not a classic revenge story by any means, and it's not for everyone. The mature content and depth of the characters combined with the story hits you right in the feelings. The different versions of the same event allows the player to understand everything that the characters are going trough. Everything is GRAY, not the clasic black and white, good versus evil.

    WORLD | 10 | - I love the world. What can i say? The world feels alive, every NPC of every faction has a name and probably a story. You hear them, they miss people, they are afraid, and when you are done hearing them and hiding, you kill them and the other NPCs scream "OH GOD, MARTHA IS DEAD". Freaking GREAT. The ambience and the ruins of the city are immersive, the sounds are incredible. Every part of the world design is awesome!

    GAMEPLAY AND ANIMATIONS | 9 | - The gameplay feels true to "The Last of Us", stealth mechanics, spam-grab everything, fluid combat, etc. I have one critic: The stealth-kill animations. I mean, come on, it's always the same. Couldn't you add at least two? Anyway, it's a minor thing, everything else is excelent.

    1) A character you liked died. So, what? You deal with it and see where the game gets you.

    2) I absolutely HATE games, series or movies that force the LGBT+ in their stories. This game is an example of how to deal with that without forcing it. We have a lesbian, a bisexual jewish, a trans-gender Scar-asian boy, and TONS of NPCs talking about "Getting back with my man/woman". I didn't feel forced into that not even for a second. It massively explored our feelings and the ability to empathize with someone who hurt you really bad. I do feel that the ending was "cut short", which kind of reminds me of Life is Strange 1. As if they were in a hurry. I liked the gameplay, although it's not for everyone. If you liked the gameplay in the first one, I don't know why you wouldn't like it in the second one. It's weird that the most emotional parts were during flashbacks, but they still hit the spot. I'll think about this game for a while.… Expand

But more than half of these reviews are by people who have either not even touched the game or have not even finished it, which u can tell based on the fact that 18k ppl review bombed it in the first few hours when this is a 20+ hr game and from the fact that a lot of the reviews have no clue what happened in the game, which is quite sad, because this is a good game. The best parts of the game are the graphics and the gameplay, but the story isn't nearly as good. I don't understand why tf they made us play as Abby after she killed Joel, I feel like playing as Abby should've been dlc or smth rather than something I have to do to see the finale. But the parts with Abby still had enjoyable gameplay and great scenes. Now the story, it wasn't bad but not great either. The only two problems I really had was the **** ending, and playing as Abby, I understand that the end is supposed to show how Ellie accepts Joel's death and knows that killing her wont bring Joel back. But Ellie killed hundreds of people to get to her, and now when she finally does she feels empathy or regret?

    Anyways apart from that the game is pretty fantastic, playing on the hardest difficulty was extremely fun to add a sense of realism and made each encounter so much more stressful and exciting. And even though there aren't too many new things in stealth, the fact that u can now prone and some of the sequences with water lets to experiment with the combat system a lot more. Basically, u should buy this game but the story might be a bit of a dissapointment.    … Expand

    La verdad tiene todo lo que un buen juego tienen que tener, los gráficos son excelentes, la jugabilidad bueno es igual a la de la primera entrega pero aún así es bastante cómodo, en resumen me ha parecido excelente y me apena muchísimo la calificación, no se puede criticar un juego entero por una parte de la historia, el mundo de the last of us es así, cruel y despiadado.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everyone giving this game 0-4 haven’t had many good reasons for hating this game that I’ve read. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about how bad the ending was (just because it wasn’t where most games/films would go, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad ending). Now I do agree that it feels like Ellie went through all that effort and pain almost for nothing by letting Abby live. But I commend ND for doing something kinda of different (It especially contrasts from the first game). By Ellie seeing a vision of Joel it seems as if she realises that she’s almost replicating his actions from the first game by going on this mass revenge spree.
    All in all I believe this ending fits the theme of the back half of this game.

    As for all these plot holes everyone keeps going on about the only real one I was confused about was why Abby never turned after Ellie bit her arm in the theatre. But other than that it was a fairly solid story.
    From everything else I’ve seen it doesn’t seem like people really have actual reasons they hate this game so much, others have said they don’t like the “agenda” they’re trying to push, but in all fairness by complaining that Ellie is gay and there’s a trans character (that isn’t Abby, I mean really everyone’s complaining about it but she’s clearly always been “Abby”, that’s proven in flashbacks. Sorry you’re scared of her because she’s just absolutely ripped). But if you’re complaining about the agenda by doing that you’re just pushing your own agenda of non acceptance. Call me woke or whatever but just because you don’t usually see people like this in other games doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Just wake up and realise that they aren’t the point of the game, they’re just there like they are in the real world.

    Quick one too, and it’s important. JOEL BEING KILLED DOESN’T RUIN/MAKE IT A **** GAME. It’s clearly here as a story driver (hence we wouldn’t have this game, which some people including myself agree that we didn’t really NEED a sequel, but that’s beside the point now). Joel really did kill a lot of people in the first game, he was going to die at some point; and someone seeking revenge on him should never have been out of the question, Abby’s agenda was fairly legit and not overly arguable, Joel really did kill everyone. Now this brings me to what I didn’t enjoy (hence a 9)
    While the story was in my opinion super solid and another incredible story driven journey across post apocalyptic America. It did drag on at times; especially when playing the same three days as abbey straight after playing them as Ellie. Giving Ellie a beating playing as Abby was also incredibly hard to bring myself to do as we’ve painted Ellie as the heroine the entire two games. There were also a few times where I would sit there almost stunned about where the story went. Often taking a moment to comprehend how the story jumped, Although none of this really affected my opinion of the game overall. To me. The Last Of Us part two is an incredibly detailed, immersive and stunning game, with a solid story and an always incredible performance from all the actors. To me it wasn’t quite as masterful as the first game, but still a worthy sequel to what I believe is one of the greatest games ever crafted.    … Expand

It crushes and guts you to a point, where you're at the edge of stopping to play it, but you just can't quit it because the story magnetically draws you back in, it takes such a massive toll on your emotional comfort. I've never experienced this with any other game before. I still catch my mind grinding about the story, even though I finished the game three days ago and this will probably not stop for a long time. I'm sure there are many ways how they could have told another story for Joel & Ellie in a different perspective, but I think they executed it in the most difficult, dark, outrageous, crushing manner, rather than playing safe and pleasing the majority of gamers with a "this is how the story must have proceeded, everything else is BS" storyline.

    From a tech point of view it's also almost perfect. Only had one AI issue with Dina trapping me in a corner one time in a very diverse 28 hour run. The graphics are astonishing and the, in my opinion, already good control system of part one got refined and enhanced. That's why I can't understand how anyone could give this game less than a 3/10. The achievements of graphics, audio and atmosphere technology are unquestionably great. TLOU2 sets the bar very high for any following games, just like the TLOU1 did 7 years ago.

    For me, expectations were met and also exceeded in many ways. I hope that this was not the last part we will see of The Last of Us franchise. I feel obliged to have this as my first review on metacritic, because I think the backlash for Naughty Dog and Druckmann is too harsh in many ways.
