7 years later and it feels like over 7 years they slowly forgot their creation, not entirely but enough to make this latest entry seemingly misplaced and an ill thought out experience.

A certain level of conformation has been put by its creators onto its new narrative, everything feels a little more forced and out of place. The characters are told to go right when they would otherwise go left and the narrative is a little disjointed between character coming of age and wild slasher film.

It lacks grace, it lacks cohesion, it lacks substance. They haven't created something new for games as a medium but instead tried to mimic the thing they really actually wanted to be working on, film. The irony while they made a cinematic experience for games, they inadvertently showed why they work on games and not cinema, lack of ability with flaws on show. But the presentation alone will trick many, especially in my opinion reviewers who clamor also for a more cinematic artistic world of games in a bid to feel more cultured.

    Avoid.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Remember in the first game the giraffe scene? Where after this long journey between two strangers that butted heads from the beginning finally bonded, then you as the player watch the young girl look on a herd of giraffes in awe during all the chaos? There is nothing like that in Part two.

I will freely admit, I did not play this game. Instead I did the current year thing and watched streams of it. Some with commentary, some without, but I saw enough of the game. After watching, I knew that this game is just not worth buying, and there is nothing redeemable about it.

So let’s get the very little pros out of the way:

Graphics look amazing. But this should be a given for a major studio with a triple A game at the end cycle of the ps4. So this doesn’t actually save the game.

The sound is amazing. Nothing more to say on it.

The acting is great. Some of the people behind the faces playing the characters are some of the best and recognizable people in voice acting.

    Now for the neutral:

Gameplay is meh. The action is pretty much the same as the first game. Very little was added to.

    Now for the cons:

Gameplay is dumbed down. Beyond the action, TLOU p2 is a puzzler game. You make your way through the area to get from point a to point b. And it looks like the developers decided to make it so simple to solve how that there’s no challenge or thought needed.

    Character.....
So many decisions the characters from the previous game go and make go against what the characters would have done in the first. Joel and Tommy would not have revealed who they were and where they lived to a large group of strangers.
The new characters fall into two camps: totally forgettable or totally unlikable. Ellie’s friends are just there, but don’t contribute to the story. You won’t care about what happens to them because you are never given a reason to bond with them. Abby is the only character the developers try to force you to empathize with, but she is just bad. She just killed the reason why people liked the first game, then your forced to “understand” her justification?

    Story..............
Tales of revenge can be fun to go through if done correctly. We can see the conflict within the character seeking revenge and the resolve they have to build to finally go through with it or turn away. TLOUp2 doesn’t have this at all. You can’t plow you way through an army of nameless people brutality killing them, then shrug your shoulders at the end before killing the big bad.

No multiplayer mode. The multiplayer mood in the first game was great and you could easily find yourself putting more hours in there then the single player. But there is none in the sequel and really there is no reason why there isn’t.

The developers claim that the game was about hate. They even went on record and saying they weren’t going to use the word “Fun” in their game. But playing a video game needs to fulfill another word. That word is enjoyable. TLOUp2 is not enjoyable. There is nothing but bleakness and violence for the sake of bleakness and violence. I found absolutely no reason to spend money on this, which is hugely disappointing because I was really looking forward to it when it was first revealed. And I for one am sick of criticism being dismissed with accusations of homophobia and sexism or being accused as being a bit.

The last of us part two will be right up there with the likes of The Last Jedi and Game of Thrones season 8.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, this game is great in the diversity, ethnically, gender-based and sexual-orientation regions of the characters - even highlighting strength of pregnant women.
However, no matter how great the foundations of a character are - poor writing shines through - and the characters are ultimately shallow and rushed.

What really hurts this game, is how it punishes you for the decisions in the first game - even though everyone loved how the first game ended: it is why it was so successful - the writing agreed with what the player would have felt and wanted.

It is an insult to the player to play as the person who killed one of the most beloved characters, and expect them to instantly sympathise. The arc to Abby had to the potential to be great, especially as a muscular female character (not commonly done) - yet, it was introduced in the wrong part of the game and it is difficult to want to hear her after her actions 2 hours into the game.

However, by no means does Abby later in the game show remorse for her actions - which begs the question: why should she be a protagonist?
It is made clear than Ellie's actions are wrong, she is fuelled by revenge which is harmful only to her and those around her. It is made clear by the writing that the player *should* empathise with both protagonists Ellie and Abby - and during the final fight not want either to win, having developed a strong bond to both. Except, Abby was allowed to kill Joel, but Ellie is not allowed to kill Abby - for no real reason except for a contradicting character arc.
A more contradicting arc might be Joel's lack of survival skills as he wanders into Abby's trap - but that was overshadowed by the rest of the games poor writing - even if it is the catalyst of the games events.

TLOU is a story driven game, and if the story is riddled with plot holes, plagued by weak character development and finishes unresolved: then it is a bad game no matter how good the cinematics are.

    Edit was for pro-nouns

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 1:Story makes only sense if characters are stupid and act irrationally all the time(Abby killing every Joel, Abby defending her father chopping up teens for a "possible" cure, Ellie not killing Abby after she murdered her father figure Joel and messed her up in general)
2:The story also undermines what the first game did with its characters just to be subversive
3:Game also throws lotsa "Why are u so bad?" and other undertones when you kill enemies who attack you while not giving you any choice to not defeat them. This also ties back to Ellie not killing Abby, but being absolutely okay with killing hundreds of other people just to get to Abby
4:The game's focus is also taken away from zombies, now just going with "The real zombies were the people we made along the **** While it is common to focus in human relationships in zombie apocalypse writing and such, it shouldn't replace the setting itself.
5:The anal sex scene. It isn't necessarily much of a point against the game, as much as it is against Sony and their laughable censorship rules with other games. "Showing skin is bad unless it is in our cinematic masterpiece where Druckmann's self insert gets to **** Abby"
6:False advertising with flashbacks and such.
7:Gameplay hasn't evolved much since the first game that came 7 years ago.
8:The game is more of a single-viewing experience that doesn't use videogame format to its advantage at all. You can view it from side and not lose much compared to playing it. The interactive and choosing elements are almost non-existent in story, which is quite a problem when the story, voice-acting and graphics are the only things going for it
9:It kills the last game's main character to be subversive and be shocking.
10: Enemies do not react to being shot at all, but when they die, they do a B-tier screaming, trying to reinforce the "You are so bad ****

The Last of Us, I'm sorry to say is nothing special. We all know its uncharted with zombies. What made the first game so great was the story. When you take the exact same gameplay, add a few tweaks here and there, and then make the story terrible; what is the point in playing? I gave this a 0 because it just isn't the sequel, I'm still waiting on that one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am utterly heartbroken and angry. The plot is over ambitious, lazy, sloppy and nihilistic. It felt forced. Naughty dog bit off more then they could chew with this one. Tlou2 could have gone several ways in terms of plot with the existing characters, yet we get the cliche revenge plotline with the character abandoning the quest altogether to realise revenge isn't the answer. This trope has been done several times before, with more finesse and better execution. The circumstances that lead to Joel's death was out of character as well. The Joel I know from tlou1, a hardened survivor who has fought tooth and nail to survive the past 20 years would NEVER end up in a situation like that. Joel was intensely alert, critical, clever and intuitive. One of the bigger issues was the constant reinforcing that Joel is a villain who lacks empathy,Ellie believing the cure would have been a guaranteed sure shot success ..... WHY? This retcons the first one completely. The beauty of the tlou1 which was it's moral ambiguity, which is lost. The treatment of the main chatacter in her own game is utterly cruel and disappointing, and seemed unfair. Ellie is broken beyond repair. She chooses to be the better person, gives up on her vengeance and hate, still manages to be on the losing side as she ends up losing everything and everyone. Ellie gets a depressing, worthless, futile and a hopeless conclusion. Her BIGGEST FEAR has become a reality by the end.
The gameplay, beautiful sceneries, and new characters like dina and jesse are few of the positives of game. The space shuttle cutscene, the museum flashback sequence, ellie and joel's flashbacks were the only parts that recreate the magic and beauty of tlou1.
Abby... the forced deuteragonist, is an utter failure of character execution. Her character was forced onto us, felt hasty and lacked real build up. The abby-lev bond which is pretty much walmart version ellie and joel falls flat on it's face. The heart and soul of the game is butchered completely - ellie and joels bond.
The false advertising to make us believe joel is alive and good?this is an ellie and joel centric game? A complete mockery of the fans who waited 7 years to see their favorite characters get horribly treated, retconned, disrespected and thrown under the bus in favour of new unlikable characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's very clear to me what Naughty Dog are doing here, they ended this game the way they did knowing it would leave us wanting revenge on Abby, long theory short they want you to pay for a DLC story expansion so you can finally kill Abby. This is why they really delayed the game multiple times, they weren't making it better, they were cutting content to sell separately. My main gripes with Part 2 aren't only the story, my problems are that the gameplay is full of boringly scripted sequences and outdated, and more importantly the replayability value is nonexistent, at least with RDR2, God Of War and Spider-Man i can free roam and still have fun exploring, but The Last of Us Part 2 once you complete it that's it, there's not even a strategy guide for this game, it gets a 3 for excellent graphics, audio and atmosphere, i'm going to play Sekiro Shadows Die Twice now because that is truly a masterpiece, i'm done with this forced "accept homosexuals" agenda. There could not be a bigger slap in the face to all the fans who bought this game on good faith than the first and last hours of the story, the mind boggles at the idea of this getting greenlit. Whatever Niel Druckmann, Naughty Dog and Sony were hoping to achieve with this title, I hope it was worth it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game looks incredible, the game sounds incredible, the gameplay doesn’t fix what isn’t broken and the amount of accessibility settings is amazing but the story (which is clearly the most important thing) is simply put awful. There are so many stupid character decisions, Joel has been surviving in this world for a long time he should know better than to give his full name and location so easily to a group of strangers, the reveal that Abby was the one who convinced her dad that Ellie needed to die both completely ruins any attempts the game made to make you sympathise with her (even though the game does a horrible job at that and any success comes not from Abby being a likeable character but from the nostalgia of what made the first game a masterpiece), and Ellie literally spends the whole game murdering her way through a quest to get revenge on Abby for killing Joel only to decide to simply let her go to complete the “revenge bad” message of this game makes LITERALLY THE WHOLE GAME POINTLESS. Not to mention how the game tries to make you feel bad for the excessively violent things Ellie does to get to Abby but considering you don’t have a choice in the matter most of the time its just unfair. When i saw the leaks a few weeks ago, I could see the game’s story wasn’t going to be a good one but i thought “hey with the rest of the game i’m sure it’ll be better” and instead the context provided (and the things that weren’t leaked) somehow made it all even worse. We waited 7 years for this, The first game was so incredible I will never understand how Naughty Dog screwed up so badly all I know is that this game isn’t the worst thing to ever come out no where near it, but compared to the first game it’s such a disappointment. A good game got a sequel and I hoped the hate was fake and the critics could be trusted. But yet again, the critics were apparently paid off. Full disclosure, I took the time to make an account just to review this game, because it pissed me off that much. I won't review the game play mechanics, because they are largely unoriginal and a slight improvement to the first game, but I will talk about the story which is what we all were interested in anyways.

The story is awful. Without spoiling anything, let me explain why. The writing and dialogue isn't necessarily bad, but it certainly is mediocre. The issue is the premise of the story, a boring, angry story of revenge, revenge against good and bad people alike. It almost feels like the game wants to justify violence against good people the same way it wants to justify violence against bad people. Everyone is the same, looking for revenge and what you've done and who you are are irreverent factors. At the same time, the game is trying to teach you that violence is wrong, so it essentially accomplishes nothing because it is so confusing in its message.
A big issue for me, and I imagine a big issue for many others, is the way the characters themselves are handled. Joel retains his character from the last game fairly well, but not for long. (you'll see why if you play it.) Ellie, not so much. She feels like a totally different person in every way except for her devotion to Joel. Abby is complicated. I feel like they game wants you to think she is just like Joel, doing what she has to to protect her people. But she comes across as a villain instead. She is ugly both inside and out and it's hard to understand why she was written into the game the way she was because she is the worst part of the story.
The soul of the first game is entirely absent from this sequel. The characters are unrelatable, a major problem for a story game. It feels like quick cash grab and I didn't bother finishing it, but instead watched you tube videos of the cut scenes. I will probably seek a refund as soon as possible and I suggest you do too if you bought it.
In the end, I give this game a three, purely because the animators and voice actors deserve credit for a job well done. I give the animation and voice acting a solid 9/10. Unfortunately, their work was wasted by a story that I genuinely can think of nothing positive to say about, a story that effectively ruins the first game for me. I give the story a 0.5/10 (for the decent dialogue only)
Quick edit before I post this: The Metacritic server seems to be not allowing reviews to be posted for now, It crashes every time I try. Also, the positive and negative review ratio is fluctuating wildly probably meaning Metacritic is desperately deleting reviews. Well, I hope you see this review before they delete it and save yourself some money. Just watch the thing on YouTube, it’s been there for weeks anyways

It's like a bad episode of Walking Dead or some other second-tier TV show, and while ''playing'' it you can tell making a videogame was not the main focus of the developers.
Their main focus seemed to be the spreading of political agendas and appeal to ''tears and feelings'' in order to hide the mediocre writing.
Graphically speaking, it has some bugs and it is still inferior to games

I returned the game to gamestop a couple hours into abby gameplay and joel’s death and i must say, ive lost all drive to play the game. i give it a two as the gameplay and graphics are well done, but when the story actually physically makes you not want to play the game, it isn’t the users fault it is the creators. Justice was not done to the first game and the apathetic nature of abby and the fact you have to play as the killer of your favorite character just doesn’t sit well. Expand

Totally disappointed with the direction that TLOU took, it's okay that the graphics are beautiful, but we all know that what makes a game remarkable is its plot, and the developers lacked creativity in this regard, I had the experience harmed because the game contains several bugs, anyway, graph is not everything ok ND? They pushed too hard on gender ideology.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This contains spoilers after the gameplay paragraph so read with caution. Starting of, you must be a real idiot in order to take one of the most iconic and famous franchises in gaming history and kill it. Just like that. I really believed that I'm a loser in life but a multimillion company managed to even surpass that, so I kind of thank them for that at this point.

With that said and into the game the graphics, physics, music and lighting is top notch. That was to be expected though based on the budget and time they had to develop the title. The world is well designed and you really get the feeling that you are in a post apocalyptic world, hostile and you have to be careful and thoughtful before you make your next move. The music and sounds are on the same level. The guns sound is totally on point , you can feel the direction of hostile voices are curses are coming from and in general music is atmospheric and dips you in the world of tlou2 pretty well.

The gameplay is the usual gameplay NaughtyDog introduced in the previous game (tlou1) and the known Uncharted games. You will get a lots of button mushing queues that you have to time correctly in order to escape many situations and "stealthy" approaches and gun ho fighting feels realistic and intense. Don't get me wrong though since the whole fighting thing is getting a bit repetitive and tiring after awhile. Sometimes the camera and controls feel wonky but that might be me, but in general is nothing to worry about.

Finally, into the plot. The game is a total garbage. There is no character development. Like at all. They are all out in a quest for revenge and that's it. While being vengeful cuz something went wrong with your life is one thing, but doing that without justifying any choices the main characters make in the game is mind boggling. To the point that all you see is violence and relentless killing. Don't take me wrong here, im all for violence and gore in games but in this case its just stupid. Ellie (I guess everyone's favorite) after being busy killing a **** ton of people in the finale she just lets her nemesis go. Just like that no **** given. There are other situations that Ellie doesn't act like Ellie we all know as well which made me wonder "why? why? why?". I don't play a 30 hours game to have more questions in the end than before playing it and have to struggle, in order to justify the time I sank in, to cover their plot holes? I mean come on. Joel on the other hand, a middle aged man now(supposed to be wiser than before), just walks into a room full of strangers and just tell them who he is. Obviously they didn't like it he ends up dead two hours in the game. Amazing. Finally we understand that hate brings hate and this was trying to be a sad game while the first game was about love. BUT the players need to feel connected to the characters, so this works. ND tried to shove this down our throats with no real effort, "good guy Joel" had to die so now we kill them all. That's the narrative. Even the new characters they introduced are indifferent.

All in all the plot made obvious that ND wants to get rid of your two favorite characters from the said post apocalyptic world they created. That is cuz they want to keep the world and milk it as much as they can with future games, but they don't have anything left in their brain to write about these two. They want to take your money by giving you plain and simple games without much work.

Finally i want to talk about the huge difference in user score and critic reviews. People you need to wake up. Don't support the people and magazines who wrote the reviews. They are all of them fake and disgusting to the point that they try to manipulate us for clicks, views and money. Say no more. Vote with your clicks , your comments and your wallet.

Personally I regret buying this game. I gave it a 3 for the effort of the people who designed the world the animations and composed the music. The rest literally is worth a zero. So don't buy this game even if you love the franchise. Time for ND to take a lesson. They escaped with Uncharted 4, but not this time. We also did it with Battlefront 2, we did it with Battlefield 5, we are going to do it again.
    My 2 cents.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Forcing us to play as the character that killed one of our favorite and most beloved characters....screw that. Congrats, the game is pretty but you screwed up everything else. The story lacks any real substance. The focus of the first game is endure and survive. The second was "it can't be for nothing" ... but it was. It was for nothing. When the creator makes a self insert that spits on Joel's dead body...that says what the creator thinks about those that loved and appreciated the first game. Waiting 7 years when the the first game was my favorite game of all time and Joel was my favorite character of all time, this was absolute trash. Expand

The Last of Us 2 tries so hard to fit into its part one shoes that it lost the tone which made it so great. Some things are great like the graphics and motion capture are almost perfect. The linear lvl design is almost all the time great and the melee combat feels real. But there are things which are truly not good from a players standpoint. The standard AI feels sometimes more dumb than the first one, yes I know you can rank the difficulty up, but that only helps to a certain degree. I wished for more enemy diversity to be more precise the infected. It feels like, "just more of the same". And the last important point is the story. All the different emotions I felt in first few minutes into the first one where unbelievable. There was only one moment I felt something for any of the characters and that one was Joel. All the others even Elli felt like only driven by one emotion and my empathy for anyone was very limited. Everything in the story felt like such a generic revenge story and there are many games which did it better. I watched the ending in disbelieve and sat there for a minute and asked myself: "that was it?" After such a long time playing this game(the playing time was for me about 20-30h I am not sure right now) it didn´t felt satisfying. I am truly, truly heartbroken for how they decided to handle the story archs. Was it a bad game? No, from the gameplay standpoint I didn´t think so. Was it a good game? No, the story destroyed my experience completely. The hole plot from the first is perfect. The second one feels like: "We have to put this theme on it, REVENGE, REVENGE, REVENGE. No other thing has a place in it." I will play the first one, again and again but this game is done for me. Sad but true.. Expand

The first and original The Last of Us game was a beautifully built, written, and outstanding game with amazing graphics and I expected no less from Part 2. When I played The Last of Us Part II, the graphics were outstanding and the voice actors certainly did their part on that and delivered that beautifully. However, the rest of the game seemed like something that came out of a 2015 watt pad fan-fiction. The "sjw" aspect while it is prevalent and makes for weird things in the game(abby design being the most obvious non spolly thing I could talk about) isn't what makes the game bad
The gameplay is bad, the maniability of your character is better than in witcher 3 at least (lol) but the rest of the gameplay is really below any standards you'd have for a triple a title especially when compared with similar game (tps sneak shooting game)
That isn't to say the gameplay is **** and the level design+Ai is good enough to make for good thriling action which actually makes for entertaining moment although it get pretty repetitive very fast and I did feel bored while playing the game
The game scenery is really beautiful and the level of details are quite crazy for a ps4 , similarly the sound design is really good and does help a lot with immersion (I played with the voice in french and the actor did a great job too)
Now why does all that warrant a 4 ?
The story was what I and I assume most people were looking forward to since it's the most important thing in this franchise which never shined through it's gameplay
It's honestly complete **** and it's really hard to explain without spoiling but the characters really make incredibly stupid decision and ellie especially acts so much out of character
    I thought TLOU1 was a writing masterpiece
TLOU2 on the other hand is on the level of a regular blockbuster or a 50shades of grey type book
I'm not joking that's how ridiculously bad the writing was
The game is meant to be disgusting and sad on purpose but after a while I was just desensitized and I kept playing just to see how ridiculous the story would keep getting
And it kept getting worse and worse and worse
The amount of time a scene was supposed to be serious and sad or/and horrible and I was laughing or not caring was quite crazy
And I'm a pretty sensitive guy (I cried in the MGV killing your own men scene for **** sakes)
The only scene that made me emotionally evolved where the scene with joel and the flashbacks ellie had
This game made me dislike the character of ellie while I loved her in the TLOU1
The game takes everything from you away and try to force you to like character that you simply cannot like because of what they previously did
From start to finish you lose thing and don't gain anything
A non spoiler summary of this game : A revenge story where in the end the only revenge enacted aren't even gameplay related but in cutscene from character you don't control
So buy this game if : You don't care about a pretty bad cliche and very forced story that will either make you feel bad or will feel ridiculous+ You don't mind a gameplay that isn't really amazing
Don't buy this game if : You care about gameplay or story
This isn't the standard that should be set in this industry
Video game will never be considered an art if you don't make it's most unique component one of the main thing in your "art" (gameplay and interactive story)

Eliie dig up his corpse and behead it in her memory. muscular girl who killed Joel roamed fields and destroyed everything all time with no clear purpose... what do you want to tell us, scenario writer? I think if he shows STRONG Abby's behind story, gamers will understand her motivation naturally in his delusion. That is his intention clearly. but No. No one understand this bad story.

How about graphic, sound? Not bad, but we just want a consecutive good scenario, not collateral things. Good graphic and sound make a game more remarkable when game is totally good.

Might i add that barbaric sex scene which was very insignificant to the story and didnt humanize these new and impertinent characters because news flash, we were forced to sympathize with them and no one did. Neil, you really blew it with this. I think neil is trying to use this game to explore his freakish sexual fantasies, and force feed us his agenda. The lgbtq+ community couldn't even bare this mess of a game. The old ellie protected herself from david and in the end killed him, but this new ellie is so soft for letting abby go free. Abby literally gets to enjoy life with her new beau while ellie sits on the beach crying and goes home to a cold and empty bed. Alone. Don't even cry, because you had optimal time to go and sneak kill her. I had hope that maybe this game could live up to its predecessor, but i was mistaken. This game is a poor excuse for a sequel and seems like a horribly written wattpad fanfiction. The new characters are just plain boring and some pay little to no purpose to the plot. The plot is lazy and bland and the original characters completely abandon their previous personality traits and deviate from past lessons that were learnt. Example: TLOU showed a funny light-hearted ellie that did everything it took to protect herself and joel. Joel was a sceptical/distrustful person and didn't trust people easily, meaning he didnt disclose information to people he didnt trust. ESPECIALLY to strangers. TLOU2 shows a darker ellie. She's not light-hearted and she finds but yet doesnt kill the monster of all monsters: abby. Joel (and Tommy) are friendly with everyone and tells complete strangers their names, which some of you may know causes Joel's demise. Now i hope you see these trends because obviously they have deviated personality wise from the first one. Joel deserved to be avenged. He deserved better. I'm mostly disappointed in ellie because she acted kind of like a **** to joel in the beginning and still didnt avenge him in the end. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME. This game was a hard pill to swallow but to the place that i bought this game, i would like a refund. Expand

I just completed the main campaign for The Last of Us Part II with a clock time of 29:15. After years of waiting for this release, it’s clear that the trailers advertised and the final product presented false advertisement and swapped out character models that did not reflect what I thought I was receiving for $60. Having said that, I cannot recommend this game due to a few reasons that impacted my playthrough. Please see below.

I will start out with the obvious. I am still completely blown away with the technical capabilities presented on my PS4 Pro from this game. The environments and level design are beautiful and very detailed. I never expected to see such invigorating life in this world that they built. The details are incredible, and some areas are middle to large in scope.

The animations are fluid and improved over the original on the PS3. The jump mechanic of Ellie is a neat and welcoming addition to the gameplay and verticality implemented in The Last of Us Part II. It gave me additional playstyle opportunities even though it felt just like Uncharted 4. Again, not a bad thing!

The gameplay is pretty decent. I noticed many improvements and refinements over the original game, but nothing after a few hours that felt new. It reminded me of RDR2 giving me a “stiff” feeling whereas the original felt a little more loose.

The story is where I noticed a lot of inconsistencies that didn’t match the trailers advertised. I thought okay, maybe it was an update, but then I began seeing more and more. Naughty Dog lied an put Jesse in a cutscene (when I was going through WLF territory) where the trailer depicted an older Joel. I felt extremely disrespected the way they killed him off and had diverse characters do him this way. It felt forced and like an agenda was being pushed and I did not feel that. I also did not like that they went to the level of spitting on him with the guy who looks like Neil Druckman. Again, I love the characters from the original, but the characters and the way they are treated in The Last of Us II just feels like “filler” and to show shock value. It reminded me of a b horror movie with a large body count. Why did we not get the old gruff Joel and instead this younger Joel? Was the marketing team doing a bait and switch? I felt like I was getting a different experience and not the one I wanted.
Why were there many political themes heavily forced and pushed throughout the game? I noticed a lot of white characters being killed in inhumane ways by other diversities and again, it just felt like a message was being forced or sent. Other people wont mind this, but I wasn’t a fan of this. In fact, it was constantly pressed throughout the cutscenes of the story.
The XXX scene…what was the context other than incorporating it during Abby’s time throughout the campaign? Her character I couldn’t feel bad for after the way the writers did Joel and Ellie’s new personality/character over.
The ending and final boss fight was underwhelming. Don’t expect a huge finale per se, but if your expectations are low, you may enjoy it. I put in so many hours and killed so many people to ultimately let Abby go and it felt like a punch to my stomach. I think the writers were going for this, but it just made me feel that this was not The Last of Us Part II’s game that true fans of the original wanted.
If you love the characters of the original, I can’t recommend the sequel due to the inconsistencies, the ways beloved characters were treated and killed off to push a new controversial character that wasn’t as relatable as I would have hoped for. It felt as if a whole different team made this game, but with the themes of feminism, LGBQT, politics, etc. Why is there such a heavy push for these themes? I understand their viewpoints, but I didn’t need to see this within every cutscene.
I was completely underwhelmed by the game due to its rich narrative. The Last of Us is a story-based game and this story felt cheap and quickly thrown together for shock value and execution. If you don’t care about the narrative you may enjoy the game, but you will have themes of SJW, feminism, LGBQT, Violence, and more. The way they perceived the Seraphytes (A Christian cult group) was also disturbing. I feel offended as I am a Christian and we certainly don’t want to harm or kill those who sin or have different beliefs. This experience felt like a porno. I’m baffled.

As a massive fan of the original, I've waited for this game for 7 years. The Last of Us Part II is a massive disappointment. The characters are at best forgettable, while many of them being downright awful. The story feels unmemorable in contrast to the first game. The ending feels bleak and pointless. I absolutely adore the first game and so so badly wish that I could have enjoyed the sequel. The graphics are phenomenal but that's really the only positive thing I can say after playing this game.

The last of us part ii: a dubious message to serve with luxury. Chapter 1: How to kill legacy.

    Foreword.

think what you want, but this game cannot be considered without context (although I am sure that its defenders will call you for objectivity). I respect the work of Naughty Dog (although Naughty America is better suited for it now) and understand the obstacles that both the game and its developers have gone through, but I believe that the amount of effort spent should not overstate/justify the quality of the product/activity, especially if this product is of questionable quality. You will ask: "Why do you urge to look at the game through the context and at the same time say not to take into account the developers' work? - Because what we got was their conscious decision, in particular Neil Drakman. If we're talking about objective evaluation, it's 8/10.

Graphics. On my original ps4, the game looks amazing. There's nothing to say - you can see everything for yourself.

The gameplay was moved from the first part and made according to all the canons of a good sequel - everything became bigger and better. But the problem is that the gameplay of the first part was good for your time and as long as you don't improve it, you'll have the gameplay of the last of us 2013. But that's a question for today's game industry and its stagnation.

It's a story. The main idea of a cycle of violence and eternal revenge, though not new, is definitely interesting. However, this idea, too, should be disclosed and do it well, which, in my opinion, the game did not work. All because of the huge amount of "gray morality.
    The sound. Beautiful.
    Control. Comfortable and intuitive.

And now about what's going on around here. Everyone understands that the positioning and marketing of the product is sometimes directly responsible for its success and considering who the game is focused on and what ideas it carries, you know - that's the problem. Yes, it's an artistic value. I think only the lazy one didn't reproach the game for its SJW policy. However, I don't think that makes the game really terrible. The problem is not in any politics at all, but in its propaganda and the quality of this propaganda. If the game was about traditional values and criticism of LGBT - it would not change my assessment. Nobody likes to be hung up (not even in direct text) with any position. And this is not about homophobia and its derivatives, but about how people feel about another complaint from minorities in their infringement of rights. Even by printing this text, I understand that again someone's rights will be violated and feelings will be offended. Most people are tired of it. Personally, I don't like it when grief-creators create another "Mary Sue" whether it's a woman or a man, because I remember very well the time when they were able to create strong and independent women, and that was due to the script or the author's idea, not the narrative of modern trends. And you know what? The characters were beautiful. Once again, I have immeasurably respect for every person, and the rights activists, among others. I have nothing against who I play for. It doesn't matter to me who the nationality or color is. But please, let us not create a negative attitude to our liberal movement with our propaganda. Let's respect everyone's interests, not interpret only our own. Let us be free as long as our freedom is not restricted by the freedom of others. Let us justify and prescribe our characters. Let's just be a little more civilized.

With this assessment, I expressed my attitude not only to TLOU 2, but to the industry as a whole. Maybe you will miss this review or consider it stupid, or maybe you will read it and agree with what is going on. Only know that by projecting your opinion/position on the masses, be able to evaluate what it is for and for whom.

If you found some mistakes sorry 4 my English

The whole point of the first game was that the vaccine wasn't the solution to fix the problem in the world. The real solution was the bonding of humanity and surviving together. The bond of a father & daughter figure. The second game completely missed the point.

The games message at the end is... (SPOILERS BELOW!)

That revenge is bad. It starts with Abbie getting her own personal revenge by killing joel. Then through out the game, Ellie murders people to get to Abbie so she can get her revenge, yet at the very end "Murder bad!" So Ellie lets Abbie live and Abbie gets to take the person she cares about away.

So basically Ellie isnt allowed to get revenge as "Getting revenge means bad.". Yet, Abbie in the end, was rewarded for her revenge quest.

How the hell is this a proper story? It makes no sense to me!

    Game play: 7/10

ND gameplay is always average at best. You don't play ND games because of their gameplay, you play it for the amazing visuals and sound, the music, and the story. Their games are always breathtakingly gorgeous. Music is always well done. So in a way, they really don't get bonus points for doing what ND is known for.

Troy Baker is at his absolute best and hit a grand slam every time he was at the plate. Ashley Johnson was amazing. This doesn't mean the dialogue was well written, far from it.

The story is horrendous. Character development was weak. Where is the "Bill"? The "Tess"? The "Ish" (even though you never meet him! he was awesome!)? It was ultra violent for the sake of being ultra violent. And so much so early, that it lessened the impact of it as the game progressed. It completely veered from the 2016 announcement trailer and the last big trailer that showed Joel (and not Jesse) saying "You think I'd let you do this on your own?".

Someone, somewhere decided that a story rewrite was in order which resulted in the near year delay. Flashbacks were re-used to save development dollar.

It could have been the coda for the PS4 before the arrival of the PS5. It's just disappointing.
