    The feeling of disappointment is overwhelming. The game first sets you up with taking out the main character (Joel) for what feels like mere shock value. Then has you chasing down the killer for the first half a game only to turn you 180 and feel like you need to start making a connection with Joel's killer which you now control. It seems like they had all these "cool" ideas but totally forgot what made The Last of Us Part 1 so good story wise. Only out of sheer will to see this train-wreck I continued playing as Abby.

    Graphics and Gameplay are great, but really are we getting TLOUP2 for graphics and gameplay? We know even if you turned up the original a bit it was going to be smooth to play. This story is just a mess, you had rich and vibrant characters from the original and just let it go to waste.

    None of the Dina and Ellie story bothered me, nice to see them try but its hard to have a connection with Dina because it was just so bland.    … Expand

    This game is just perfect. Perfect in it's stupidity. It can't get any worse than this. I can't believe we lost Amy Hennig's ND for a dumb turd of a game like this. That story was just a huge insult to all the fans. Great way to appeal to the .01% of the population, who isn't even part of ND's fan base. Bring back the old Naughty Dog.

    The story is trash, the character development is really bad, the gameplay is boring. Everything about it is trash except for the visuals. The rest is garbage. Naughty Dog ruined the The Last of Us.

    The graphics are really good and detailed, the gameplay isn't that groundbreaking, the story absolutely sucks, lacks charm, the new character has both a boring personality and background. While this kind of story may be something new in the videogame world, it's not when you compare it with movies or books.

    The graphic is great. The gameplay is smooth. The mechanism is fantastic. The sound is excellent. The environment is overwhelming. But the story is completely rubbish. The story is fxxked up. They only need to do one thing to make this game perfect. They only need to let us choose the ending, let the player choose how to end.

The game repeat the same gameplay we have already seen before in The Last of Us 1 and absolutelly boring plot where Joel dies. I don't want to remember Abby's parts in the game. The biggest plus there is a workable UI and some new detalized features. That's all. I'm going sold my PS4 after this game. Well played Naughty Dog and Sony.… Expand

    You will hate this game because of the plot long before any sjw content starts to annoy to you.

    Some ideas how to "improve" the plot. SPOILERS: Ellie sees how Joel dies and has a heart attack. Both of them are dead and you play the rest of the game for that femminator and her girlfriend.

The interaction between the 2 were great and realistic. It breaks my heart on how Naughty Dog decided to remove this completely right at the start of the game The story was just a disaster, it was a mess. It's very unfortunate that I have to give a bad review to Naughty Dog as I was a fan of them but this game was disappointing indeed. What holds this game up to hitting a 4 though was the graphics and gameplay, but besides that the rest is terrible. Story and character development was amazing in the first game but in this one it's missing that element.… Expand

Confusing options for difficulty and AI. 10/10 for jump button, LOLS. Good graphics though.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge TLOU fan, after all this time, after a masterpiece, what is left is bitterness, sadness and disappointment.

    Just to be clear the graphics and sound are amazing, the gameplay is good too, even so that its not that different from TLOU 1 (crafting, etc are basically the same).

    But what really made me love TLOU was the story, the character development you see between joel and ellie, basically becoming father and daughter, how they start from strangers to become really attached and depending on each other, to the point that they would do anything for each other.

    But its enough of talking about a masterpiece, so lets talk about TLOU part 2.
    They tremendously failing on making/delivering a product that people actually wanted, and man... what a mess.

    Ill try to be short:

    So, we got to know a girl named Dina that I really don't have any interest in, she kissed ellie and she was dating Jesse but broke up a week before, and they loved each other so much that it seems they don't care about it anymore??? huuum okay, then they give us like a sex scene too between ellie and dina, and Jesse finds them and its all ok for him, like "I didn't even love her before".

    Now, one of the most **** up thing in the story, our beloved joel that is really smart seems dumb now... so image if you kill hundreds of guys, you basically destroy the fireflies, you save an unknown person that is near your city(kinda weird) and she leads you to her friends, all armed in a room... would you tell your real name to them?? well, guess what, our now dummy Joel did! guess what happens? gets killed!.

    To be honest, I was expecting Joel death in this game, but not like this, for what sake? the sake of shock? well, I have to give them credit at that, i was shocked.
    But if you have the balls to do this, basically a cruel/idiotic plot death you have to make it up right?
    well the return is a slap in your face.

    The death of Joel could be, and deserved to be better than this.

    After that Ellie goes on a rampage to get revenge on abby that killed Joel, she kills and kills and kills... then we get some playable flashbacks with joel and ellie, they were nice but not that good IMO.

    Eventually you will know that abby had something with Owen, but now owen is with Mel, and Mel is pregnant, and later you see again abby doing sex with owen, and oh did I tell that Dina is also pregnant? Yeah! such a mess! wtf??? is this really TLOU??

    Ok, so in the end you will have a background on Abby, and you will play a lot with her actually, so you can see that she is a good girl, good intentions, so you don't hate her for killing joel...

    As I said, if Joel had a different death, and we knew a little more about Abby before, maybe, just maybe I would have some interest on that character. So they make you play with Abby, where she will find too a kid to protect like Joel, so simplistic and repetitive.
    I really didn't like to play as Abby, I wish I had a skip option so I could skip to the ending, felt so pushy... Oh btw, how is she still alive with all the noise the makes walking??? jeez... oh, btw, amazing how ellie too doesn't care with the noise, she finds a guitar and starts playing like.... maybe there are clickers here?

    So basically they put some non interesting characters as Abby, Dina, Jesse.... I couldn't care less About those Characters, at least not like this.

    And well, after all this revenge story purpose, the pregnant girls, the sex, at the end Ellie lets Abby go. Yep, after all this messy story, after all the purpose is to get some revenge on Abby that killed Joel what you get is a slap in your face telling you that revenge is bad!

    I understand the meaning, the circle or revenge wont end, revenge is bad, blablabla...
    But its really unsatisfying, They really force you trying to like Abby, but with no success.
    TLOU is an apocalyptic game, full of death, kill or get killed... doesn't really fit in the game... not that I don't understand the meaning or that Im a bad person, but felt really bad, unsatisfying story, unsatisfying ending.
    poor Jesse that died in the end as nothing, irrelevant character right?

    Imagine playing god of war and in the end kratos lets go zeus. yap. the same.

    Well, as an fan of TLOU i feel really bad, I would like to rate it better, but I cant with this poor story.
    I would recommend you to get the game only when its like 30$.

    TL;DR: good graphics, good sound and gameplay, poor writing, poor characters, what leads to a bad story(that's where this game should shine). messy romantic/sex scenes, Forces you to like a character that you probably wont like. Get it when its on sale.

    I didn't know how a game can be like this disgusting until TLOUII released.
    If this game isn't a continue story of ep1, then it's ok. But it is. So, don't waste any money if you saw the trailer (you can find out they scam us by using the scene of "Joel the Golf" as well, cause you can see that Jesse just randomly take the place of the scene that Joel should be there. And the story didn't make sense, thanks to the disgusting re-edited by NAUGHTY DOG .

    So just don't buy/play this game. Because the editorscripter is just putting shxt in your eyes and brains.    … Expand

    TLoU Part II is the game that I've always heard about by many people: a graphical and cinematic masterpiece with a recycled gameplay from the previous game, zero innovation and a poorly written story with weak characters and an almost nonsensical plot.

    First thing to say is that this game is solid AF. In my playthrough of 30 hours I met 0 bugs, 0 glitches and no crashes at all. Never, no matter the situation, I had problems at all.

    The graphic of this game is top notch. You'll remain stunned by the beauty of the world and the cure for every single detail. From the movement of the grass, the snow and how the warm blood of enemies melts it, the landscapes (both natural and artificials), the sunflares when you direct the camera against the sun ecc everything is absolutely gorgeus, a marvel for the eyes. It's obvious that the artists that worked on this game had a solid vision about the game's world and how to make it. The mix of "city-jungle" it's a clear prof of it. Of course this is the same for the characters, their faces, models ecc. Yes, this game looks really cool and you'll love to just spend time looking around and playing with the photo mode.

    Gameplay wise... well, its TLoU. The gameplay is literally just copy-pasted from the previous game and while TLoU was a good game for its generation, TLoUII feels outdated. Same crafting system, same weapons improve system, same skills improve system, same stealth, same weapons... you got it. There are few additions like the possibility to dodge enemies' attacks which I personally really felt like useless. For puzzles, instead of ladders you're going to use ropes (puzzles are incredibly simple and will recquire at maximum 30 seconds to figure them out), and now you can full crouch and hide yourself in the high grass. Of course this is not Uncharted, we're not going around for ancient tombs trying to solve wierd puzzles to open doors and treasure rooms, but it really feels like that these puzzles are there just 'cos "there were in TLoU" and that's it. They're so simple and useless that you wonder why the hell they put them on the game at this point. If you're expecting more then this, you'll remain disappointed. Gunplay is simply HORRIBLE. It is imprecise, it is clunky, it's slow. Hell, I don't understand why someone who has passed YEARS to shot zombies and people can't aim "straight" and instead shake his hands like a drunk. Who thought this was a good idea? Now we have big areas (much bigger then TLoU) full of enemies and dealing with them is so frustrating. There are TOO MANY ENEMIES, play stealth is so hard that a certain point you just give up and decide to go rambo just to die 'cos enemies will kick your a** using the advantage of the number.

    The story. Listen, I have no idea where all of this was going for. It's like that who wrote this started with an idea but then realized he didn't actually know how to concretize it. The story starts with this "revenge plot", but for how the things go at a certain point you don't know what is going on anymore. Characters are bad written, the plot just goes on for "convenience". While in TLoU you one had so many beloved characters here secondary characters are absolutely meaningless and you really don't care if they die or not. At the end of the game there is the greatest attempt to manipulate the audience I have ever seen in my entire life just in order to cover the mess that the story was so far. I really can't explain without spoilers why it is so bad. What can I say is that if you hope for a TLoU story level, you'll remain absolutely disappointed.

Isn't it crazy the level of propaganda and control that coalition has? Now imagine if they exerted that control to demonize and dehumanize an entire group of people.     El primer TLOU ya estaba muy sobrevalorado, era sobresaliente en lo realista y bien construidos que estaban los personajes de la trama y en la banda sonora, además de un buen apartado visual, pero nada mas, a nivel jugable era mediocre, un juego simple, lineal, lleno de scripts, videos y muchos momentos de "walking simulator", nada en lo que destacara, mas bien    Es una BASURA. 1/10.

    El primer TLOU ya estaba muy sobrevalorado, era sobresaliente en lo realista y bien construidos que estaban los personajes de la trama y en la banda sonora, además de un buen apartado visual, pero nada mas, a nivel jugable era mediocre, un juego simple, lineal, lleno de scripts, videos y muchos momentos de "walking simulator", nada en lo que destacara, mas bien lo contrario con cosas vergonzosas como la regeneración de botellas y ladrillos, además de contar con una historia genérica (que hacen interesante esos personajes que fueron los mejores hechos en un juego) por eso le di en su momento un 6/10. Pues bien, este TLOU2 es lo mismo, no mejora las taras de TLOU pero además destruye cosas buenas del original. Lo de menos ya es que este juego se haya usado para lavar cerebros insertando basura ideológica, es que es un mal juego con o sin esa basura; TLOU no necesitaba secuela y de seguir con los mismos personajes se veía venir de lejos el desastre. La incoherencia la tienen los que sobrevaloraron al primer TLOU, que no era tan bueno, ese era mediocre y esta innecesaria secuela es peor, de suspenso. ¡Siete años de desarrollo para esto! vergonzoso, los juegos AAA no tienen futuro, si este tipo de basuras requieren tanto tiempo y presupuesto, esto no es viable y es un disparate; obras maestras se han hecho en 12 meses, 7 años esta basura, lo dice todo de la decadencia de los AAA.

    PD: Anda que no tienen JETA los individuos y los medios digitales que descalifican a estos analisis de usuarios hablando de "review bombing" ¿y que adjetivos le ponemos a la casi unanimidad y a todos los 10 gratuitos de la prensa? esto no les molesta por lo que parece, SON UNOS CINICOS. El tiempo demostrará que esto no es solo un "review bombing" por motivos ideológicos o similares, este juego no se va a recuperar porque es malo objetivamente, y nunca ningún otro exclusivo de ninguna compañía ha recibido esta dureza. I really did, but it's such a convoluted story and a complete betrayal of everything established in the first game that it's just a depression and disappointing experience. The graphics are top notch, but the story and characters are so terrible that it's not enough to redeem this game.

I rolled my eyes so many times during the cut scene when the two girls were whining about girl stuff (being lesbien and shy about it, or being pregnant and a burden etc...) so god damn lame for a story we see this in every tv show and its just bad writing    Just finished the game...

    Very weak story with characters you won’t care about. The game tries to shock the players but even fails in that. Side mission are an effort to strech the playtime and are totally useless. The plot is very weak and leaves you with a feeling that you really waisted you time.
    Gameplay wise it pretty much the same mechanics as the previous game and are clunky and outdated.

    So, once you take the narrative elements out of the equation, what's left?
    Predictably, not much. The gameplay is the same affair we've been seeing delivered by Naughty Dog since the first Uncharted, i.e. mediocre AI taking pot-shots at you from behind chest high walls, while you try to do the same to them. The "stealth" is equally unimpressive.
    Motion capture also felt off at places, which is actually weird given the budget and development time this game was afforded. You'd think for a flagship franchise like this, they'd have taken more care to avoid entering the uncanny valley every time a character opened their mouth.
    And to finally say something positive, and justify those 2/10 points I gave it, the graphics are pretty damn good. If you want to take a glimpse at what the next gen games are going to look like, you should take a look at this game. It really does look amazing.

    So in conclusion, I can only recommend this game if you fetish is staring at stellar quality graphics. If your priorities lie anywhere else, you'll only be dissapointed.    … Expand

They are smart and hard to deal with. But the story is really poor and the personalities of those characters are unclear and fickle, sometimes confusing. Wasted potential. Please do yourself a favor and skip this game. I want to pretend this doesn't exist and the first game is the only canon.

    - The message of the game is shallow and hypocritical.
    - The game is morally skewered towards one out of two narratively leading sides of the story.
    - The story is a scrambled mess, littered with multiple flashbacks which has less emotional effect on the player because of how the story has been structured.
    - There’s next to no levity in the game, which can be extremely draining on both the player and on the storytelling, since the events in the game losses it’s emotional impact and becomes more predictable.
    - Some character choices are absolutely none-sensical and comes out of the blue.
    - The game either assumes that the player can correctly assume the correct character development during narrative gaps taking place before and during the game OR a lot of character development was extremely overlooked for the sake of plot twists.

    I’m sick and tired of big IPs getting away with this trash level of writing while racking in billions of dollars in profits. This needs to stop or else entire industries will devolve into a cesspool of badly written media and litterateur. STOP, JUST PLEASE STOP.    … Expand

    The game is spectacular in its mechanics and in the narration of the story, but it is unnecessary to include political issues such as the LGBT community in a game. Without them, the game would be top notch. Just look at the example of The Witcher, Mario Odissey, Zelda, Uncharted, and several more. Hopefully Naughty Dog reconsiders.

I'm literally only going on because I just want to see Ellie beat the antagonist to death... I did not read any of the spoilers going into it, I didn't even know it was being review bombed until I pulled up metacritic to leave a review... The dialogue is trash, the plot and decision making is trash. As a result I just can't believe any of these characters actions, was this even written by the same people? How did we go from some of the most believable characters EVER written in TLOU1 to this?! While I'm sure there are some homophobic pieces of trash that hate this game because of lesbians, for me you could replace Dina with a guy and the dialogue would still make me cringe and want to turn the console off. My day has been ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable at the waste of potential. Maybe this is my fault for hyping myself up and playing TLOU1 the other day to get amped up for TLOU2 and my expectations were set so very high, however the difference in writing quality is startling. Basically the only thing this game has going for it is pretty scenery and a good soundtrack which is why I give it a 2 out of 10.… Expand

    This could be the greatest game ever made, and I'd still despise it because of the crunch development. That's what's p***ing me off the most about this game, the fact that a horrible, abusive practice went into making it and game journos are letting the man responsible get away with it with no consequences because he's hiding behind progressivism and using it as a defense for his actions. I preordered the game, but due to the major spoiler I had and the whirl of controversies after the game’s release, I decided to postpone my first playthrough. Here, after a year of calming down the heat, I believe I can play the game with unbiased opinions. First, the graphics is probably one of the best if not the best of the last gen console. It’s really impressive what the programmers at the Naughty Dog did to make all that happen. Second, the gameplay has major upgrades compared with TLOU1. Considering the TLOU series is heavily story-oriented, it’s impressive that so much upgrades can happen from TLOU1 to TLOU2. Last but not least, the story. As I said, both the two games are heavily story-oriented, but what makes TLOU1 unique is not its story but the way the story is told. It’s the details accumulated during Joel and Ellie’s journey that makes the final decision of Joel’s astonishing but reasonable. While in the sequel, innovations are made in terms of the storytelling, but the story itself has big loopholes, which makes the game less enjoyable. I guess the main theme the game wants to convey is the meaninglessness of revenge, but even with the innovative ways of telling the story, the game fails to do so. Instead of filling the players with the void of revenge, the strong emotion of revenge is carried on even more so towards the end of the game. A good comparison I make is with Metal Gear Solid V. MGSV is also about revenge, but the hatred towards the Skull Face and the desire to revenge abates towards the end, with the reasonable storytelling. In conclusion, TLOU2 deserves praise for its beautiful graphics, surprisingly good gameplay, even innovative narrative style, but it fails to convey its core idea because of its poor screenwriting. It would be at least a 7/10 if it’s not a story-oriented game. It’s really a pity.… Expand

I did not care Ellie was a lesbian in the first game and it didn't bother that Abby is transgender, even though it feels a bit forced. My problem is that everything that had a meaning in the first game, doesn't have one anymore in this one. I feel like Neil just gave us a huge slap in the face with Joel's unnecessary death and how pointless it was. This game made want to quit when we were forced to play as Abby right after killing Joel and the having to fight Ellie. The ending was the worst I've ever experienced and made me feel like Ellie's entire journey had no meaning after forgiving Abby for literally killing everything she loved and letting her go. I'm tremendously disappointed and heartbroken. The jump button was basically useless and the visuals were fantastic, which saddly is the only good thing about this game.

    The last of us should never have had a sequel, not like this.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
