    I really enjoyed the Last Guardian. It was far from a perfect game but the heart that was put into its creation really shows. I found the game a moving and emotional experience leaving me thinking about it long after completion.

    The graphics have a beautiful style similar to ICO. The design of Trico the beast and your companion is truly a technical feat as it feels as if hes a living breathing and very real creature. You fall in love with Trico as you play and you learn his subtle movements and behaviors. Some have complained about the way you control Trico, but I believe that if he respond instantly to commands he would not feel like a real creature. You learn how he moves, how he thinks and reacts and by the last quarter of the game it feels like he responds much better because you have picked up on these small cues.

    The level design is at times fantastic and breathtaking. The feeling of height can be dizzying and spectacular. Puzzles range from easy to taxing but always had a logical conclusion. The story plays out through the bond between characters and their adventure rather than regular cut-scenes and this works well meaning the story is created through game-play.

    Sound and music really add to the ambiance and fit the story and style very well.

    There are some technical issues and the camera angles at times can be frustrating but they didn't spoil what was a magical experience. Like I said I love this game and preferred it over other PS4 exclusives like Uncharted 4.

    I'd highly recommend it.

Expand

    The Last Guardian has very much everything I've expected for a Ueda-Game, control won't be an issue when you finally find the core point of the game. I found what I'm looking for in this fast paced gaming world, if 7 years is what it takes to make such wonderful experience, I am waiting for the next one to come.

    TLG made me run through all emotions of adopted pet ownership in the 12 or so hours it took me to complete it. Once I stopped trying to control it and instead treat Trico more like an unknown animal, it felt very natural, and as the game progressed, we were working together in a refined manner with very little miscommunication.

    I'd love to give this game a 10, but the technical issues stop me from doing that. Frame rate dips, control pop-ups and general camera wonkiness are a jarring wake up to the otherwise enchanting world you should be effortlessly running through.

    Controls are tricky at first, the frame-rate isn't particularly great, but this game isn't any less magical because of those faults. The Last Guardian, like ICO and SotC before it, is an emotional journey that's unlike anything else.

    Since this game took so many years to make and went through tough times, it's a miracle that it turned out as well as it did.

    Goods: AMAZING SOUNDTRACK, really one of the best soundtracks i've seen in my life. Also, the characters are very Charismatic, especially Trico. The Scenary is AMAZING, you feel small on the giant map. It's a awesome, shocking, experience, but a little ruined by the framerate drops and a confusing camera. Trico has also a great IA, Trico is very charismatic and can get a smile from you sometimes. The puzzles are very creative also, and the gameplay is very fluid and easy to control.

    Conclusion:

    - Bad camera +Very charismatic characters
    - Very short campaign for a no multiplayer +Amazing, shocking experience

    At first, I was little annoyed by poor controls and bad came in the game. Trico controls are not working all the time and puzzles are not amusing. But after time you are starting to getting emotional attachment and I think this is the most important thing that developers wanted to achieve. It feels more like you and your big friend are just going through adventure. It feels cozy and warm. Trico starting to feel as real animal. You care about each other .
    And closer to the end game is becoming more interesting in terms of action and story. In the end I am satisfied. I think the most important thing here is an emotional part. If you are gamer that loves videogames as an art that game is for you. If game had better technical quality I would give it 10 out of 10 and it will be legendary.

    The Last Guardian is a game like no other. The story it tells is easily one of the best in gaming. The ability to grab at one's emotions makes this an unforgettable experience. Trico is a character I will not soon forget. The only problems involve the messy camera and a few glitches. They do not, however, take away from this amazing experience.

    Shadow Of The Colossus is my favorite game of all time, and Ico is amazing in it's own right too. However, I am pained to say The Last Guardian, perhaps my most anticipated game of all time, has fallen extremely short of my expectations.

    I'm going to come out and say it right now, This game looks beautiful. I cannot find a single fault in the graphics, as such with the soundtrack.

    I'm going to come out and say it right now, This game looks beautiful. I cannot find a single fault in the graphics, as such with the soundtrack. Although no tracks exactly stuck with me like in SOTC, i still enjoyed it all. Trico is adorable, and I found myself engrossed in his small mannerisms and personality than I probably should have. As much as I love all the care and effort put into the world, and the aesthetics of the game,....I have to say it.... this game is just boring for the most part.

    Let me just say, if you're not a fan of Ico or SOTC, The Last Guardian may not have anything for you. This game sold solely based on its likeness to those 2 games. The beginning of the game is great, the ending is fantastic, but I found myself loathing almost everything inbetween. Really, not much happens. The gameplay mostly consists of you, as a little boy, guiding Trico to the next area, where you can do it again to get to the next area. I just didn't find it fun. While I did enjoy the 2 characters and the bond they formed, I for the most part couldn't bring myself to play the game for more than an hour before shutting it off.

    I see a lot of complaints about the controls, I don't see that at all. The controls are fine, it's just the overall gameplay design that falls flat. The combat is mostly just watching Trico smack enemies across the room, then petting him when its over. A lot of the time, the puzzle solutions are really easy, it's just the tedious act of getting there that kills it for me. Also, Trico's AI is sometimes amazing, sometimes poor. I found myself having to give a command 20+ times before he heeded. Part of me feels this is a gameplay design, to have it behave just like a wild animal, and if so, I applaud. But if not, then it needs to be fixed.

    Like I said, I am really hurt to give this game such a low score, but this is legitimately how I felt when playing it. I just didn't enjoy it. I really would have liked to, but I just couldn't. This was my most hyped game of all time, it was supposed to be my GOTY, not my most dissapointing game of the year. 5/10

Of course, I am sure there are exceptions to this, but they feel too similar in terms of gameplay, movements and environmental puzzles.

    Trico's movements and AI should be praised as it is a technical marvel. It feels alive, it is not your everyday AI companion. And the way Team Ico makes the relationship between the boy and Trico develop through gameplay feels genuine, organic and human. This alone gives a lot of life and humanity to the game.

    The art of the game is what you can expect from a Team Ico game. Both the music and the environmental design is fantastic. Personally, I finished the game wanting more from this world, from its culture, its creatures, and I feel this universe has potential for an animated series. The world feels so well crafted that 10 hours of -good- gameplay don't do it justice. I simply wanted more.

    There are a few things that prevent this game from a higher score in my opinion:

    - A few minor frame drops. It does not happen all the time, but they are likely to occur in outside areas.
    - Trico's instruction and command system. I feel this system has a learning curve and eventually you will learn which commands are most useful in certain circumstances. However, I feel the game fails to make this system more accessible for everyone.
    - Camera issues at some points.

    Despite these problems, the game was an amazing experience for me, and I definitely recommend it. For those who don't enjoy puzzle / platforming games, I still think you should give it a try because of its story, character development and, of course, Trico.

    - Trico me ne ha fatte tirare talmente tante per la sua lentezza che son dovuto ricorrere a figure religiose di credi non esistenti;
    - il bimbo assume gli atteggiamenti di un mongospastico nelle situazioni più critiche;
    - la telecamera è il vero villain, almeno negli spazi stretti;
    - i cali di frame sono parte integrante del gameplay e davvero ben curati devo dire.

    Visto così uno pensa "Ma che bella cagata atomica". E invece.

    Arrivi a soffrire d'ansia nelle situazioni più critiche e a star male con Trico o il bambino o entrambi in gravi condizioni. Tenti in tutti i modi di farli stare meglio e, quando li vedi aiutarsi a vicenda, il cuore ti si scioglie. Più in là, capisci che il rapporto tra i due ormai coinvolge anche te, e ti ritrovi a parlare ad uno schermo, convinto che ascoltino ciò che hai da dire. Così facendo e riflettendoci bene, realizzi quale sia stato l'intento del gioco fin dall'inizio: giocare. Si giocare, ma con le tue emozioni.

    Ragazzi, io sono il primo a dire che il gioco non è perfetto, infatti ho riportato i difetti principali poco fa. Ma fidatevi quando vi dico che una volta iniziato, il gioco stesso ti obbliga a finirlo. Inutile che tu resista, non puoi fare a meno di sapere come andrà a finire la "breve" storia dei due amici. Tutte le emozioni che provi nel corso dell'avventura, brutte o belle che siano, fanno passare in secondo piano gli aspetti negativi.

    Ho atteso anni per questo gioco, forse anche troppi, ma adesso che l'ho finito posso dirvi: quanto è bello The Last Guardian ❤.

    In general, The Last Guardian is a masterpiece not afraid of the word. These games are really out every 9 years (as it was developed). Tricot turned so alive that you have during the game does not leave a feeling of anxiety for him. And only after this ending, I really understood what it means to the term "open-ended". When the days of sit and ponder: "What if ...".

    I wrote a 3000 word review on here before accidentally closing my browser so I'll just keep it really short this time:

    I thought the game was amazing. Despite the obvious technical flaws, it's still a beautifully detailed game with an immersive world surrounded by an sense of mystique. The culmination of Fumito Ueda's labours of storytelling love. The chemistry between the protagonist and Trico is very enjoyable to watch it evolve as time goes on and the story, although subtle, unfolds into a satisfying conclusion at the end of it all.

    It has technical flaws, but if you're a fan of Team Ico's other games I'm sure you'll be able to tolerate them. Making way for the absolute diamond in the rough that is The Last Guardian. Solid 8.5/10, bumping it up to a 9 to counter all the mindless and poorly-constructed 1-point reviews this game has been receiving.

    It's heartbreaking to me to have to score this game as low as this, as I love the premise, the characters, the world design and at moments the overwhelming charm this title has.

    But ultimately, the controls are completely broken and the AI is patchy at best. And when you consider this is a game which has to rely on tight controls and solid AI to be a success, the fact both are the weakest points of the title renders the whole thing dead on arrival. It is mechanically not fit for purpose.

    Look, this will get high scores from those who are charmed head over heels by Trico (stunningly cute by the way), as well as the art style, to an extent the story and, let's be honest, the hype this game has received for years and years - but they're not scoring it high because it's a good actual game. It is borderline unplayable for large parts of the experience; you will fall off ledges, fail to interact with Trico, wait around for minutes for the AI to react to what you want to do... these really are deal breakers. Read the positive reviews on here - not one will realistically praise the game as a game; instead, they'll bang on about story and so on.

    But I'm reviewing a game. This isn't a good game. And it's a crying shame, as they did the hard work and completely ballsed up the basics.

    Oh, and for those who excuse Trico's AI because he's a dog and "dogs don't always listen in real life"... that's an unbelievably dumb argument, because we're talking about a video game, NOT real life. It has to work as a video game first and foremost. I can yell at a hedgehog in real life and it won't turn blue and run fast, and that's obvious as you wouldn't compare Sonic the Hedgehog to an actual damn hedgehog! Stop making excuses for broken AI.

The thing that brings this whole idea to life and makes it work is developers core design tool, and that is Trico's AI. It is such a stroke of creative genius that has never been seen in video games I think. They hit that animal reasoning and intelligence spot on I love how the bond and understanding develops progressively. I was placed in the shoes of a boy in search of a way home. The path would be impossible but for the companionship of the mythological beast Trico. Together, we traversed a vast city and encountered deadly enemies.
    We didnt just travel and fight side by side. We developed a bond over time and we helped each other. Keep in mind though that while he will do his part in finding the way home, he can never be tamed completely. He can be moody and stubborn sometimes. It made me reflect on my life raising my daughter. She is never in a hurry to listen to your commands but, given enough coaxing, she will do what is needed.
    The suspense of the experience was palpable. It can be slowed down by exploration puzzles but it was always rewarding when the path became clear. I highly recommend playing with headphones. The sounds of our friend Trico, the echo of caverns, the sparse yet lovely music, the smashing of rock and brick all ring in your ears with reality and urgency.
    What a gorgeous, touching adventure. It is a contender for my favorite games of all time. Frustrating at times, it was all worth the sweat and worry. I will forever remember this one. And be sure to stick around for the post credits scene. I hope we get more emotionally, character driven stories full of suspense and greatness in the exciting future of "gaming".

The camera is often difficult to control, there are glitches and controlling Trico can be frustrating but the story is masterfully crafted. It gets progressively better the further you get. I can't think of any games in recent memory that gave me such an experience of wonder and made me want to learn more about its world.

    While it is certainly a game with flaws, the Last Guardian is the definition of being more than the sum of it's parts. Just like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, it is a game that is far more about it's mystery, imaginative concepts and emotional journey than it is about gameplay. There were times that I was frustrated by the controls, camera and gameplay restrictions but at the end of the journey those complaints seem minor compared to the unique tale that I had experienced.

    It has been 11 years since the Shadow of the Colossus was released so in light of that expectations were rightfully very high. The Last Guardian, admittedly, should have been far better than Shadow of the Colossus and Ico considering how much time it took to make and how far technology has come. To be perfectly fair, it isn't better than those games but I would say it is just as good. I think the reason that it didn't get a better average score is simply because it came out too late. If it had come out three years after Shadow of the Colossus it would have been ranked as one of the best games of all time just like that game is. I was one of the people that was frustrated by the wait for this game and I still think it took way too long but playing it was like returning to a magical world that I was once kicked out of ten years ago. Once I got in a ways, I was just happy to be back.

    How you feel about this game will likely depend a lot on what type of person you are. This isn't a game for everyone, it doesn't have something to satisfy every type of gamer like GTA or Zelda, it isn't a game with mass market appeal that tries to have it all. Yet for those who appreciate this type of game is a rare bit of magic that only comes around a few times in a decade.

    Oh boy, this is a very hard game to review.

    On one hand, the amount of charm, love and effort that went into this game does not go unnoticed. The enviroments are incredible, huge in scale and unique in arquitecture, feeling both natural and well thought: the sound design increases the impact of the scenery, adding nature sounds like wind across the stone arcs, or the tweets of birds high flying across the imposible buildings sorrounding the player, that's speaking for the enviroments and universe.

    I will talk about the creature, Trico, the undeniable star of the game. Trico is beautiful, huge, intimidating, scary, tender, obedient, rebel, in other words: a true animal. In no other game i've felt like wandering arround side to side a wild creaature, a magnificent one, and that comes with a price: some frustration, you see, the beast does not always behave like you expect, and that surely hurts the game flow, but in other hand, it adds to the immersion. Its a double edged sword, the authenticity of the beast: feels real, and also feels thedious. Eventually, you gain the ability to signal the beast and pin point whichever place or direction you want the crature to go, and it's not to shabby, most of the times Trico did as commanded, but on those rare instances when he didn't, some frustration ensued.

    Now, the true issue with this game are the controls, and that's a very hard thing to explain, i can't make it justice with written words, but in a nutshell they feel "tanky and ragdoll-like". The nameless kid the player controls is so fragile, weak, fragile and... useless, that most of the actions he performs come with obnoxious side effects: climbing into the creature's back is weird, also the movement, sometimes the kid goes (while climbing) unto an undesired directon, other times he falls flat on his face while running, or does not let go of Trico when you press the "let go" button. Also, the Camera can sometimes mess your jump timming, your location and... i would say your gameplay, the camera is Ok on the best scenario, terrible at the worst.

    Technically, the game is also on the lower end of the spectrum: i noticed lots of frame drops on my vanilla Ps4, but nowhere near terrible or unbearable, specially for the nature of the game, if this was an action focused game, that would be unforgivable, but on this puzzle-platforming oriented game, is just an annoyance (which, granted, given the nature of the game it SHOULD run smoothly)

    So... why do i give it a high rate?. Because NO OTHER GAME is like this game (you can argue ICO is similar, but i disagree). The bond with Trico is natural, progresive, the beast itself earns its place on your heart, and the amount of stuff that happens in the game makes you feel a closer connection with the crature. it's amazing the amount of complex feelings this game can give with having very very few lines of dialogue: this game is the clear example of "showing instead of telling" when it comes to both of its main characters. Also, it helps that for once the game's ending is not somber nor tragic. We need more endings like this game has.

    In the end, despite its obvious flaws, i absolutely loved this game, and as a long time fan of Fumito Ueda (game's director, also director of Shadow of Colossus and ICO), i am greatly satisfied with the end result, and i consider this game the best of his works yet, and i am happy that this game came to exist: it's an unique game, and one that will earn lots of cult following for the years to come.

    If you liked Shadow of Colossus and specially ICO, this game is a MUST.

There is no clear game process, while playing it around 4-6 hours it seems some of the "trainigs" of the chimera works only a specific spots, and if you miss them, it does not work anymore to force/train him to do something ... without any information you walk silly around and trying "stupid" things. I can imagine that Tamagotchi Fan might like this "cute thing" and others like to watch it for hours (which explains the success of cat videos), but for me thats not enough to play it for hours, especially if the other problems which are mentioned in comments has to added Expand

Many reviews cite Trico's unwillingness to follow commands as a bug, a glitch or a design flaw but personally it ties the experience together. In fact I found just petting trico or finding some food for him often encouraged him to find the way by himself. often when I had no idea which way I needed to go Trico would nod in a direction or just wander over and start jumping up on pillars. I never felt frustrated during my experience and played through almost all of the game in one day. I just couldn't stop.
    The camera is flawed at times but that's down to navigating small corridors with a giant beast. It never became a hindrance though, just an occasional annoyance. I also noticed the frame rate dropped in a couple of areas but again it didn't interrupt my enjoyment.
    Some of the environments are a little too similar, a lot of ruins but there's enough variation to keep it interesting and I found the art work to be so beautiful I couldn't complain. Of course trico looks fantastic but the boy was also very well designed. I haven't been so drawn in by a game in quite some time and if you feel like trying a game which is less action focused and more about experiencing a story and feeling part of a journey between two soon to be best friends then I say go for it. You should definitely get this game, I couldn't recommend it enough.

    This is a pleb-filter game that proves video games can be art. Stunning and beautiful game. One of the best 3d puzzle platformers to release from a dying genre. Trico feels like a living companion rather than just a gameplay mechanic. A worthy spiritual successor to sotc and ico.

    So what's the issues?

    1. The movement and input is among the worst I've ever seen. I've fallen of edges and missed jumps countless times simply because of how bad the input system is. It's easier to drive a tank than to control the character in this game. It's impossible to explain, you have to experience it.

    2. The camera, well, I won't even go there. Pathetic how it made it past quality assurance.

    2. Trico is literary retarded. Often you have to tell him 10 times what to do before he actually does it. Sometimes you try to make him jump and it doesn't work in 3 attempts which makes you think you're supposed to do something else and run around for 30 min just to come back and try again and this time it suddenly works. I've had to restart checkpoints simply because Trico bugs out (tail getting stuck on things so I can't reach and climb it, getting stuck not doing anything etc) and after restart it works again, when I do the exact same commands at the exact same spot. You won't know if you're unable to progress because you're doing something wrong or because the game has simply bugged out. If it happened once or twice it would be okay, but it's happeing ALL THE TIME.

Not a gaming website. The Washington Post? Not a gaming website. Any irrational person would claim that these are bots who are created by the developers to make the game look good. But here's the actual reason. This game was designed for people who have either never played a game before, or don't do it very often. Why is that? Because the game is flawed. Any regular gamer would come in expecting that Trico (Catbird) should listen to everything you say, and the fact that he doesn't makes it frustrating. People who aren't knowledgeable about that kind of thing are going to enjoy the experience a lot more because they don't expect to have full control over something that will just feel like a mindless robot. Even if you don't like this game, you have to appreciate it, as not many games can do this nowadays. So what's my opinion of the game? Well I think it's a masterpiece. The stunning visuals, the incredible soundtrack, the very mysterious, yet intriguing story, the well-paced gameplay, and the incredible bond between you and Trico all made this an experience that was worth the wait. The only problem is the really bad camera, but I've seen worse. Overall, The Last Guardian is an acquired taste that I couldn't recommend to anyone who enjoys more fast-paced games. But for people who don't play video games, enjoyed previous titles from the game's director, Fumito Ueda, or people who just want to play something different, please go out and buy this game. My own character less so...mostly because of the incredibly soft controls and the fact that the only forward motion available is slowly creeping along in a funny cartoon like pose or running headlong, and subsequently falling off ledges etc. However, sadly I found that I could only play it in short bursts because I just found it not fun enough to put up with the ongoing frustration of the rubbish controls and trying to figure out what to do and where to go next with virtually zero direction. I eventually 'got' that you have to try everything until something works but it's hard to tell sometimes whether you're simply barking up the wrong tree or the right tree but doing it wrong. In the end though, the thing that broke it for me was the difficulties in managing my own characters movements. I got to a place where I had to get Trico to jump up against a wall so I could leap off his head onto a broken staircase and I did eventually get Trico in position four or five times.....each time taking quite a while as he does everything slowly...but then I could NOT get myself positioned to make the leap accurately and would just fly off into space instead, then have to start the whole process again. I don't know what's going on with that but I found at different times in the game I fell off him because my character wasn't holding on or he wouldn't stop holding on when I wanted him to jump off. Aaaargh! What is that? Other than just bad programming?? It's not a a new experience for me to arrive at a point in a game where I hit a wall and have to repeat over and over until I get the hang of it or figure out what I'm supposed to do, but in this instance I eventually came to the conclusion that I just wasn't having enough fun to want to keep trying. Visually it is beautiful - the animation is often stunning - and I would have liked to see where the story went but at the end of the day it was a definite 'IRBPSE' situation....I'd Rather Be Playing Something Else. The gameplay consist of solving environmental puzzles by using the boy and the beast.
    They can be challenging and sometimes frustratingly vague or difficult to perform due to the delayed controls.
    My main issue with this game is that it is a work of art, but as with work of arts not everyone appreciates or cares for it. And this game is that work of art for me. Fantastic beautiful environments and there are some precious moments as the bond unfolds between the boy and beast but, the controls that are slightly delayed, the frustrating moments you are trying to get the beast to perform an action and it's stubbornly hard to get it to move (sure maybe that is deliberately lifelike but it's still not a gameplay aspect I enjoy), the lack of replayability unless you really care for trophies and very similar actions and environments throughout the gameplay did not make this game all that enjoyable to me.
    I'd probably rate it a 4 but the fantastic animations, especially Trico (probably one of the best animated characters/figures in a game to date) really deserves a point on it's own.
    I have a Whippet and sometimes I swear it was like I was watching a film of my dog, that's how well animated and lifelike Trico is.
    If you come into this game and expect anything like Shadow of the Colossus, you are going to be dissapointed.
    If you get it through PS+ or at a "indie price" it'll be well worth a try but for me, this game at full price wasn't worth it.
    It's a game let down by the controls and in my case because it's niche doesn't appeal to me personally.

    An incredible and beautiful adventure that explores the blossoming friendship between a boy and a beast. The Last Guardian overcomes frustrating controls and camera to be an emotional and unique experience.

    Pros:
    - Wonderful art direction. This game is so full of stunning scenescapes that it's a shame there isn't an included photo mode
    - Excellent character development. The relationship between Trico and the boy is built believably and with solid pacing.
    - Perfect animations: whether it's the boy's clumsy running, Trico scratching behind his ear, or the far too realistic gait of the living armor, this game nails the animations, lending realness to every piece of this fantastic world
    - Cinematic set pieces; repeatedly felt like you were playing cut scenes at the best times
    - Trico; the beast itself is amazing to bond with. The number of times I laughed at some small action, excitedly perked up when he came to my rescue, or feared for his well being were innumerable. I truly cared for him.
    - Intriguing world
    - Good voice acting - this whole game could have gone south very quickly if the boy's voice was annoying. Thankfully it was spot on, as was the narration

    Cons:
    - Terrible camera. Had to spend far too much time fighting the stupid thing to see where I was trying to go.
    - Poor controls. Jumping, throwing and climbing all felt loose and too often unresponsive
    - Numerous low-res textures can break immersion at times

    Mixed:
    - The puzzles can be infuriatingly hard sometimes, but they almost all make sense. They just require thinking outside the box.
    - While commanding Trico is very rewarding when it works well, it can be endlessly frustrating when it doesn't.

    Though flawed, The Last Guardian is a unique and emotional experience that should be undertaken. The game does an excellent job creating a real connection with the characters, and its a friendship no one should miss out on.

    So the story is incredible, it might be my favorite game story of 2016, it's touching and has a few twist and turns to keep you interested. The visuals and sound are also incredible, it felt like playing an animated film most of the time.
    The main characters the little boy and Trico are extremely likable and have great chemistry, people complained about Trico not responding to you when you ask him to do something...well that's kind of the point of the game, it starts of with Trico not obeying you but as the game continues, he starts to trust you and listens to you.
    The puzzles were actually creative, they were well done and fun, and the gameplay was also pretty good, sometimes the little boy was stiff to control but I got quickly used to it so I considered it acceptable...

    What wasn't acceptable was the freaking camera, that's what stopping this game getting a higher score because this camera was just awful, it kept getting stuck in objects and walls, it just made the entire experience less enjoyable and sometimes painful to play.

    It's sad that this one little detail made this game less enjoyable to play, I'm sure it will get patched at some point, but for now it really pissed me off, the rest is amazing, it's charming likeable and touching, I would wait a price drop because it's pretty short but if you find this game for like 40 or 30 dollars, definitely pick it up, it is worth it but you should expect that your greatest enemy will be the camera.

    More info:
    Controls - 1-4 out of 10, depending on a situation (yes, the wining did not come from nothing this time around);
    Gameplay - 6 out of 10, since the puzzles and platforming sequences are not challenging (and yes - the control and camera issues do not "help" here, no, apologies);
    Sound/Music - 9/10 and 7/10 (not a whole lot of music there, unfortunately, thus the lower score even though the music itself is really nice);
    Performance - PS4 Pro with supersamling enabled give a 30-40 frames/sec, which is qood for this game;
    Visuals (tech.) - 7/10 (there are a lot of small details, especially for Trico);
    Visuals (aesthetics) - 10/10 (the game often looks jaw dropping);
    Story - 8/10 (slightly mysterious tale of a friendship).

    The Last Guardian brings back all the magic and irreverence that Ueda provided us with ICO and Shadow Of the Collossus. With well-crafted gameplay, despite a choking performance, it's something unique. An experience where the player really cares about the characters.

    I did not finish the game, but for me it's one of the best 2016 games.
    Anyway, the last guardian is a work of art that must be played by those who enjoy a different and immersive experience.

    - Interesting story (though it only shows up at the very end of the game)
    - Beautiful mood, music and audio design

    And that's all the good I have to say about the game. The controls, camera, AIs, and collision management are so abysmally bad and frustrating that about halfway through the game, I gave up and pulled a walkthrough off the internet to get through this as quickly as possible. Climbing on top of this creature and getting off its back (something you need to do constantly and casually throughout the game) is like pulling teeth--only far less successfully. I've stopped counting the number of times I've plummeted to my death because the controls didn't respond the way they should have. Giving direction to the creature (Trico) is incredibly try-and-error. You can do the right thing, but you'll need about 10 repetitions of the command before it finally does something. Waiting for the inevitable downtime that this game forces upon you led me to play another game on my iPad while this was happening--I'm not kidding, it was that bad.

    But I'll admit that the ending is touching and relatively well done. I hadn't expected the twist and it was a positive experience--sadly, one of the rare ones.

    I get what they were TRYING to do. They failed. Miserably.

    This should have been a movie, not an interactive experience.

    Beautiful. Amazing. Masterpiece. Must have. Trico is such a wonderful creature, he was a bit intimidating at the beginnin, but then he grows in me. The ending makes my eyes wet.

    After the initial run of "oh it's cute" and "Everything looks amazing", you are left with the stark realization that this game is Frustrating. Most of the puzzles or platforming challenges are simple when you view them. What makes this game so frustrating is the fact you have what amounts to a feathery forklift that doesn't understand you, that you MUST use to complete these puzzles. Most of the puzzles or platforming challenges are simple when you view them. What makes this game so frustrating is the fact you have what amounts to a feathery forklift that doesn't understand you, that you MUST use to complete these puzzles. More likely than not, I would finish a particular puzzle with the phrase "Well that took longer than it should have" before realizing I will have to do another one almost immediately.
    For the patient player, this is a decent title that looks good, has a bit of charm to it and a big underlying mystery. You just gotta fight with the game's own big mechanic in order to get there.
    Also this is the first time I've ever considered that the camera itself is an obstacle in the puzzle solving system. Considering the character's direction depends on the placement of the camera and the camera somehow having mass that can interact with the world around it. It gets stuck on the low hanging ceilings, teleports around with a quick black fade to make me think some cut scene is starting, zooms in on the monster's feathers, the camera just sucks. Especially when it tries to frame both you and the monster at the same time. While this restrictive view does work to make the creature look enormous, it also creates this bizarre feeling of viewing the entire game with horse blinders on. I found myself moving the camera to actually see what's going on with the environment as well as what the monster is doing. If the goal was to make me feel like my TV is too small, it succeeded.
    This isn't a bad game by any extent, its got a solid physics based game play, it follows its own rules of design, nothing ever felt unfair. It's good, not amazing, but good.

    Mere annoyment of unfinished and unrefined gameplay. Autistic one way soultions with catastrophic graphics and control. The character animation technique is from the last century. Shockingly overrated.

    That controls really pissed me off and the camera and the stupidity of the beast. I registered on this site just to write this and put its deserved "0".

    Don't be tricked! this plays like an indie game.

    I bought this hoping it would be like previous games shadow of colossus. but it is not, it basically plays like a cheap indie game where you solve puzzle with the analog stick. don't get me wrong, the game looks beautiful and is fully animated. but it just doesn't feel "fun". remember the game with the little Eskimo? LIMBO? Brothers a tales of two sons?
    it plays exactly like that.
    I regret paying FULL PRICE for this game, buy it on sale for under 20$.
    the pre-order DLC PS4 THEME is also kind of crap but it does have music.

    I really don't understand why this game has so many negative reviews. I get that the controls and camera are a bit bothersome, but if you look past that, it is a masterpiece. People really wanted them to release it, so that is what they did. They probably wanted to work further on it, so the controls and other small things would be fixed.

    It is so emotional and there are so many small details. I just love this game.

    The Last Guardian is a very good game with a captivating narrative storyline. The interactions between the boy and Trico is very convincing. Makes you actually feel for Trico. I loved the game even though it did annoy the hell out of me at times. The camera is your worst enemy and will probably be the reason you die a couple of times during the game, Trico can at times be as obedient as a cat or dumb dog and makes some puzzels take a bit longer to complete even though you at last see clearly what you have to do.

    Even though the problems of the game can be massively annoying at times, I fell in love. The game moved me and Trico not responding because lack of AI I would guess was a little charming as I've had stubborn pets. If you have some patience for it the game will be fantastic. The game is beautiful, but you can see it was started on on the PS3, and the framedrops at times are horrendous. The camera is the thing that is truly bad about this game though.

    Very nice graphics but and the game is living up to our doubtful expectations - the game idea with controlling an enormous AI-beast is hard to achieve and leads to lots of frustration.
    The soundtrack is beautiful but more blockbuster-like than before and this game makes you think Uead should start making movies instead.

    I played it on PS4 Pro on 1080p and the framerate makes you really tired and I had to quit the game many time after just playing one hour.

    For me, this game would achieve its goal rather by being a shorter indie-game with the same breathtaking graphics and pre-rendered moments.

    It's not as good as Ico or Shadow of the Colossus game-play wise, but still a must-have on PS4!

    After 7 years in what seems to be development hell, Team Ico finally introduces us to the majestic Trico and its heartfelt relationship with a young protagonist. While the long development cycle does show its age in certain parts up to a point of some frustration. The experience as a whole is one of the most unique ever.

    The Last guardian is indeed suffering from some technical and control input issues, but its warm, beautiful adventure filled with countless touching moments is something we’ll never forget for the rest of our lives. The Last Guardian is not just a game, it’s an absolute work of art.

    The Last Guardian doesn't just live up to its forebears' legacy, it goes further. Despite the callbacks to Fumito Ueda's previous works, it is a unique creation. Outside of indie experiments, we don't get to say that about modern videogames often enough.
