    Pros
The story is fantastic - despite the lack of conversation, I found myself really invested in the welfare of the protagonists and feeling genuinely concerned whenever Trico got hurt.
The puzzles vary from quite easy to devilishly difficult. The game looks very nice (usually in strong sunlight) but the graphics can be beaten. The sound and soundtrack set the scene very well. Cons

    Cons
There were quite a few occasions where I couldn't get Trico to do what I wanted... to the point that I assumed I'd missed something and had to refer to a walkthrough, only to have it confirmed that what I wanted to do was correct.
There were a few camera control issues (while trying to climb Trico in enclosed areas) but no worse than other games in its ilk.

Overall, I thought it was a really lovely game, had an involving story, looked pretty and had a lovely soundtrack which was complemented by an infrequent Japanese narrative.
Controlling Trico was sometimes very frustrating so I had to drop 2 marks for taking the polish off an otherwise great game.
You can complete the game in a couple of sittings so I recommend that you buy a physical copy so that you can trade it in afterwards as there's not much to offer in terms of replay (unless you're a trophy hound).

The Last Guardian has been on many peoples minds over the past several years of development. As someone who has been interested in the project after completing both ICO and Shadow of there Colossus, I can safely say that my expectations were met. Was it worth the near decade-long wait, maybe not so much, but nonetheless, a masterpiece in its own right.

You assume the role of a boy awoken in the midst of some vat dungeon in a pit with the great beast Trico. Throughout your journey, the two of you grow closer to each other and learn how to utilize each others strengths and weaknesses to proceed through the giant constructs. The story is all but there, focusing more on the emotional connection between player, character, and beast.

The background graphics and sceneries in this game are top-notch. Gazing into the distance nice you reach the outside world can behold some breathtaking views, even if its of the walls of the Fortress. The sprite animation leaves some to be desired, and the over animated movements can be cumbersome at times, but it does not take away from the overall playability.

A fantastic game and well worth the 11 or 12 hours to takes to complete. By now, the price has dropped to around $40 so it may be worth it to pick it up now as opposed to when it was released. Cheers for TRICO.

There is no clear game process, while playing it around 4-6 hours it seems some of the "trainigs" of the chimera works only a specific spots, and if you miss them, it does not work anymore to force/train him to do something ... without any information you walk silly around and trying "stupid" things. So the reason I adore this game is because of graphics, the way the game makes you bond with the creature, and how Trico protects you without haste.
It's one of the many masterpieces games fail to make.

The ending is remarkable and almost made me tear up.

Even when Trico gives your character to the humans, they still attack him, and it gave me a fright, I thought Trico was about to die!
It is an AMAZING, dazzling game.

I wrote a 3000 word review on here before accidentally closing my browser so I'll just keep it really short this time:

I thought the game was amazing. Despite the obvious technical flaws, it's still a beautifully detailed game with an immersive world surrounded by an sense of mystique. The culmination of Fumito Ueda's labours of storytelling love. The chemistry between the protagonist and Trico is very enjoyable to watch it evolve as time goes on and the story, although subtle, unfolds into a satisfying conclusion at the end of it all.

It has technical flaws, but if you're a fan of Team Ico's other games I'm sure you'll be able to tolerate them. Making way for the absolute diamond in the rough that is The Last Guardian. Solid 8.5/10, bumping it up to a 9 to counter all the mindless and poorly-constructed 1-point reviews this game has been receiving.

When you are in about the middle of the game, you will see that the game is only based in "finding a way to go forward". There is no fight, no challenge. You only run from some stuff, pull some levers, tell Trico to jump and that's it.
I liked the relationship between them and the story is cool, I won't say otherwise but I believe the game should at least add some hard points to get through like "bosses" or whatever.
I had fun playing it, I got bored sometimes, but I enjoyed playing it.

Eu nunca joguei Shadow of the Colossu ou qualquer outro jogo destes criadores, eu apenas vi meu irmão jogar.

Many reviews cite Trico's unwillingness to follow commands as a bug, a glitch or a design flaw but personally it ties the experience together. In fact I found just petting trico or finding some food for him often encouraged him to find the way by himself. often when I had no idea which way I needed to go Trico would nod in a direction or just wander over and start jumping up on pillars. I never felt frustrated during my experience and played through almost all of the game in one day. I just couldn't stop.
The camera is flawed at times but that's down to navigating small corridors with a giant beast. It never became a hindrance though, just an occasional annoyance. I also noticed the frame rate dropped in a couple of areas but again it didn't interrupt my enjoyment.
Some of the environments are a little too similar, a lot of ruins but there's enough variation to keep it interesting and I found the art work to be so beautiful I couldn't complain. Of course trico looks fantastic but the boy was also very well designed. I haven't been so drawn in by a game in quite some time and if you feel like trying a game which is less action focused and more about experiencing a story and feeling part of a journey between two soon to be best friends then I say go for it. You should definitely get this game, I couldn't recommend it enough.

The Last Guardian is a video game that makes me realize how fake most video games are. In most video games, health and ammunition are strewn everywhere for no believable reason (not to mention that the idea of consuming “health” is absurd). In most video games, my screen tells me how much stamina my character has, or shows me a digital map that has no reason for existing. In most videoThe Last Guardian is a video game that makes me realize how fake most video games are. In most video games, health and ammunition are strewn everywhere for no believable reason (not to mention that the idea of consuming “health” is absurd). In most video games, my screen tells me how much stamina my character has, or shows me a digital map that has no reason for existing. In most video games, puzzles make absolutely no sense, as though my enemy would hire a construction crew for a week to build a puzzle to slow my progress. In most video games, characters move through the world and react to me with a predictable set of animations. In most video games, characters and the world twist and bend to make my progression effortless, and as we all know this is not how life works.

And you know what? It’s forgivable that video games do these things, because unlike movies or other storytelling media when you hand the controls to the audience you have some serious problems on your hands. How much realistic control do you give them? Too little and they’re running on rails, and too much and they’re falling to their deaths every minute. How do you create living characters that feel real, but aren’t boring because they get tired, don’t listen to you, or need to go to the bathroom like any living character actually would? How do you prevent the player from getting stuck without breaking the fourth wall and ruining the realism? The answers to these questions are very hard, perhaps 10-years-of-development hard, and The Last Guardian attempts to answer them and does so very well.

The screen has no UI, save for rare reminders of what button you use to pick things up or pull on levers. The game’s narrator is an old version of the protagonist, allowing the game to guide the character in a realistic way (the narrator can tell you what to do in the past tense, because he’s already done it). It’s genius and flawless.

And Trico. Trico is a triumph. I’m not sure how they did it but I never saw him repeat the same animation twice. He moves like a living being, reasons like a living being and reacts like a living being. Early in the game he doesn’t trust you and it’s hard to get him to follow your commands. It’s frustrating, but that frustration makes it so compelling when you finally earn his trust and notice in subtle ways that he has learned to like you. [It’s kinda like how Dark Souls pummels you into the ground, and that’s OK because if you could slay a demon from hell on your first try, that wouldn’t be realistic. And it feels that much better when you do.] It feels like a real relationship and it’s five million years ahead of any relationship I’ve ever experienced in a game. Mass Effect is cool because it kind-almost-slightly simulates relationships, if only for the fact that I’m picking from 4 pre-written answers and can see the dialogue tree in the background.

Now here’s the catch. Do we want games to perfectly simulate life? No, that would be boring and frustrating. So it’s a question of balance and the talent of the developer. Can they make the elements of the world feel real but also fun? The Last Guardian toes the line between boredom and fun, realistic frustration and fake ease. Early in the game it steps more to the real/boring/frustrating side of the line, and I suspect it loses many players here. Which is a damn shame, because like any Souls fan will tell you, the early frustration that comes from a realistic world (LG) or enemy (Dark Souls) is a necessary element of the final payoff. The Last Guardian’s frustrations lessen significantly as time goes on, just as this journey would in real life. You just have to trust it, or you’re going to ruin it for yourself and lose the ability to appreciate what’s happening.

I could go on forever (they should do game design classes on this game). But I’ll just leave by saying that The Last Guardian is the most real experience I’ve ever had in games, and I don’t see anything reaching those heights for another decade.

Oh boy, this is a very hard game to review.

On one hand, the amount of charm, love and effort that went into this game does not go unnoticed. The enviroments are incredible, huge in scale and unique in arquitecture, feeling both natural and well thought: the sound design increases the impact of the scenery, adding nature sounds like wind across the stone arcs, or the tweets of birds high flying across the imposible buildings sorrounding the player, that's speaking for the enviroments and universe.

I will talk about the creature, Trico, the undeniable star of the game. Trico is beautiful, huge, intimidating, scary, tender, obedient, rebel, in other words: a true animal. In no other game i've felt like wandering arround side to side a wild creaature, a magnificent one, and that comes with a price: some frustration, you see, the beast does not always behave like you expect, and that surely hurts the game flow, but in other hand, it adds to the immersion. Its a double edged sword, the authenticity of the beast: feels real, and also feels thedious. Eventually, you gain the ability to signal the beast and pin point whichever place or direction you want the crature to go, and it's not to shabby, most of the times Trico did as commanded, but on those rare instances when he didn't, some frustration ensued.

Now, the true issue with this game are the controls, and that's a very hard thing to explain, i can't make it justice with written words, but in a nutshell they feel "tanky and ragdoll-like". The nameless kid the player controls is so fragile, weak, fragile and... useless, that most of the actions he performs come with obnoxious side effects: climbing into the creature's back is weird, also the movement, sometimes the kid goes (while climbing) unto an undesired directon, other times he falls flat on his face while running, or does not let go of Trico when you press the "let go" button. Also, the Camera can sometimes mess your jump timming, your location and... i would say your gameplay, the camera is Ok on the best scenario, terrible at the worst.

Technically, the game is also on the lower end of the spectrum: i noticed lots of frame drops on my vanilla Ps4, but nowhere near terrible or unbearable, specially for the nature of the game, if this was an action focused game, that would be unforgivable, but on this puzzle-platforming oriented game, is just an annoyance (which, granted, given the nature of the game it SHOULD run smoothly)

So... why do i give it a high rate?. Because NO OTHER GAME is like this game (you can argue ICO is similar, but i disagree). The bond with Trico is natural, progresive, the beast itself earns its place on your heart, and the amount of stuff that happens in the game makes you feel a closer connection with the crature. it's amazing the amount of complex feelings this game can give with having very very few lines of dialogue: this game is the clear example of "showing instead of telling" when it comes to both of its main characters. Also, it helps that for once the game's ending is not somber nor tragic. We need more endings like this game has.

In the end, despite its obvious flaws, i absolutely loved this game, and as a long time fan of Fumito Ueda (game's director, also director of Shadow of Colossus and ICO), i am greatly satisfied with the end result, and i consider this game the best of his works yet, and i am happy that this game came to exist: it's an unique game, and one that will earn lots of cult following for the years to come.

If you liked Shadow of Colossus and specially ICO, this game is a MUST.

But after time you are starting to getting emotional attachment and I think this is the most important thing that developers wanted to achieve. It feels more like you and your big friend are just going through adventure. It feels cozy and warm. Trico starting to feel as real animal. You care about each other .
And closer to the end game is becoming more interesting in terms of action and story. In the end I am satisfied. I think the most important thing here is an emotional part. If you are gamer that loves videogames as an art that game is for you. If game had better technical quality I would give it 10 out of 10 and it will be legendary.

This is a good game, otherwise hampered with many many problems. The controls and camera are really garbage to be honest. The best aspect is the story and level design.

In general, The Last Guardian is a masterpiece not afraid of the word. These games are really out every 9 years (as it was developed). Tricot turned so alive that you have during the game does not leave a feeling of anxiety for him. And only after this ending, I really understood what it means to the term "open-ended". When the days of sit and ponder: "What if ...".

After 7 years in what seems to be development hell, Team Ico finally introduces us to the majestic Trico and its heartfelt relationship with a young protagonist. While the long development cycle does show its age in certain parts up to a point of some frustration. The experience as a whole is one of the most unique ever.

The Last guardian is indeed suffering from some technical and control input issues, but its warm, beautiful adventure filled with countless touching moments is something we’ll never forget for the rest of our lives. The Last Guardian is not just a game, it’s an absolute work of art.

The Last Guardian doesn't just live up to its forebears' legacy, it goes further. Despite the callbacks to Fumito Ueda's previous works, it is a unique creation. Outside of indie experiments, we don't get to say that about modern videogames often enough.
