By far the best racing game to ever come out. This game is not a 10/10 but definitely a 10/10 racing game. Overall the game is probably 8.5-9/10. Hundreds of hours of game play and with more to in the future with free updates.

+ Neat, is not uglier than the PS2 games that many say. Some stuff may look a bit ugly ("PS3 graphics"), but it is definitely neat considering the size.
    + Fantastic environments and views!
    + Fun varying missions!
+ Challenging assignments, bordering on too difficult.
+ Arcade steering, a bit like GTA5 or NFS.

-Not Soooo many cars to choose from in the beginning (you get mor later)
-Difficult At the beginning of certain missions
-Not So-called "nex-gen" graphics maybe, if there even is such a thing as that.

    Summary:
Best driving game ever imo. You can drive right where you want (after a few missions).
This is a lot more fun than any other car racing in the same class!

    Such Freedom, Much Road, wow.
10/10 for a game that lives up to its expectations and more!

Many people are calling the game out on its graphics, well the game is huge with tons of activity going on constantly so I would argue that the graphics are an achievement, when all is considered. The story is intriguing, but I don't believe that is the selling point of this game. The selling point is racing with friends, your crew, engaging in multiplayer races, exploring, going off road, driving on the freeway and taking any damn exit you want. Sure there are a lot of negative reviews, because all of the people enjoying the game are too busy to take time away to write a review. There is so much to do in this game I have no idea how anyone can complain about a lack of content. I'm not thrilled by the microtransactions, but that seems to be the norm. Expand

For the Interested, here is the Pros/Mids/Cons of the game.

    PROS+
+ Racing coop (up to 4 player max per mission or pvp game)
+ Very detailed environment (Working NPC's, a lot of Wilflife and alot of map details)
+ Better graphics than Test Drive Unlimited 2
+ Detailed leaderboards and statistics for everything
+ Good car handling and controls (with a few exceptions since its a NFS styled game)
+ Polices Forces that can chases you almost evrywhere. (give challenge somtimes)
+ Open world where you can drive wherever you want (Even discover some easter eggs in the world)
+ Good transition between game cinématics and gamplay (So you fell like you gived control of it after mission movies.)
+ Posibility to send your friend do faction missions for you. (so you can save time instead of doing a 2h mission for a bit more of easy game money)
+ 50 Cars for first release batch (Witch is not bad for a game that features quite detailed car interiors)
+ Offers car customisation such as pre-fab vynils/stickers, Rims, Spoilers and some chasis mods. ( Alot more visual customisation to offer compared to TDU2)
+ Day and Night Cycle System

    MIDS~
~ Servers are down for maintenance sometimes. (yes it can happen, its an online game)
~ Uplay Launcher (at least i can be used / merged whit steam tho)
~ Storymode is a bit short. (but is still entertaining to watch)
~ Missing Mirrors Animations for Cockpit view in some Cars. (they already working on it already for next patch )
~ Weather conditions changes only when you go the mountains where there is snow (they might could use a bit rain but its not that bad)
~ Can have unblanced AI (depending if you and your crew have to high level gap)

    CONS-
    - No offline mode (you need a internet connection to play this game)
    - No possibility to add your own Music (but you can customise your playlist atleast)
    - Microtransactions

So as so far for the rest for the game and the gamplay itself, the pleasure of free roaming those cars with friends is pretty Neat, if your one of thos players who dislike this game, just go back to driveclub or what so ever other racing sim game you were playing, otherwise if your looking for car tunning, driving everywhere from road to montains, and like fast paced races for the fun of playing it, this game i what you are looking for !

All together i would say, "The Crew" is a cool game to play for cruising around with Friends or even to play alone i would say, sure the game have some bugs and have a litle lack on MMO since its more concentrated on the NFS genre gamplay but is worth the price when we know they will comme up whit more !

    (10 thumbs up)

Continue the good work Ubi we know that you can do it and update this until perfection as other titles did before !!
(Afterall They made Driver San Fransico witch was a great & fun game so why not the crew !)

I felt like I owned my car in this. They've even animated the engine parts. The only concession is the world isnt as detailed as other racers but the size of the world is to blame. This game follows up the NFS Underground 2 style, but with the best from an open world racing style game. Is like playing a new NFS with open world and pretty amazing new online system.

First of all the game does look good, unlike some people is commenting at YT or other forums, technically this game is just incredible. The level of detail in every US location is just outstanding. And im not talking about little things, the entire map has almost totally different structures, buildings, houses, shops, cemetery, statues, actually everything you can find in a real city. But that does not stops there, the level of detail goes to another level when you are in a speedway and you just want to go to the left o right to reach some field, you go further and you realize there is stuff even locations or structures with life on it, incredible detailed does not matter what part of the map you are discovering, there is stuff there and not repeated stuff, all that with pretty amazing texture quality , which is actually impressive for such open world size.

There is people everywhere as well, a lot of cars, believe me there is a lot of cars everywhere, that makes every location with a lot of life on it.

Ambience is another plus here, the sky changes dramatically depending the ToD ( Time of the Day ) and sometimes you see amazing skies. Night looks wonderful with the lights and lightning, day looks just wonderful.

The gameplay is fixed from the beta, driving has been tuned and now it feels amazing, when you level up driving feels even more amazing. Customization is perfect, you can customize your car to the max. If you are a NFS undeground fan , you can do that and more. Co-op gameplay is fun. Thats it, fun and a lot. Does not matter who you play with. The story in the game is actually pretty good, it makes you play it more and more since its actually a good one.

For me this game deserves a 9/10. And i give it a 9 just because car renders are not as good as the rest. Excellent game.

some people are really negative for no reason. maybe they are the type of people who don't even bother to look at their settings. maybe their pc is half a decade old. maybe they expected a different game from what it really is.

I expected a game not as realistic or hardcore as a real sim. slightly more arcadey than forza and that is exactly what I got. (to clarify, forza is one of the more relaxed racing sims I know handling wise)

I have played the crew with a xbox360 controller, a Thrustmaster Run'n'Drive and a Logitech Momo force feedback racing wheel. the handling feels pretty good on hardcore. as with any game I had to mess with the settings a bit to get it nice feeling, but that is to be expected. Grip and lines are pretty controllable and when you get a feel for it it's pretty easy to recover from a hairy situation.

this game, like any good racing game, requires solid and precise input to be fast. especially with force feedback on dirt or off-road, the car can be quite a handfull. the differences in suspension between the classes are also very noticeable. with force feedback turned up all the way off-road is pretty doable in raid or even dirt, but with harder suspension the wheel will fight you for control on bumps and jumps. on the other hand, a raid spec will often understeer and lift one or two wheels when driving hard on road.

The big open world is really awesome. you can drive to a huge amount of places and a cross country or round trip takes a LONG time. In gta 5 i was pretty dissapointed about the lack of tight driving roads on that map. Luckily Ivory Tower did not make the same mistake. the game is filled to the brim with not only highways and country roads, but also big mountain passes. Be it dirt, snow, or blacktop, it´s all there.

It´s true the landscape isn´t the prettiest close up, but the quality of the roads and sheer size of the map easily make up for that. the different landscapes like field, forest, desert, mountain, hill, swamp etc. all feel like a world in themselves and seeing the landscape fluently change around you as you drive cross country is really cool. It all looks pristine until you get really close (and slow), so that´s usually a non-issue.

the first few days there were some connectivity issues but they have significantly lessened after they did a few server patches. I hope they will keep this up and keep their promise of rapid and frequent updates / patches.

The Crew is a very good game with the potential to become the greatest racer of this time. It finds a middle ground between arcade and hardcore handling (with assists it's very easy to stay on the road, on hardcore you have to be precise, and sport is somewhere in between.)
We will have to see in a month of 3-6 if Ubisoft and Ivory Tower can live up to their online promise, but even if you would leave out pvp this game is worth it.

Yes, there is some bugs and problems with servers, but they're fixable and not critical. The world is really huge, the graphics are nice (not next-gen, but still). I really enjoy travelling between states, using cockpit view, watching beautiful landscapes around me. The physics are normal for arcade racing and I don't understand people who are saying that it's awful. Compare it to the physics of NFS MW 2012, for example. This is REALLY awful physics. Moreover, here is a huge amount of customization options, which reminds me the times of NFS Underground 2. Of course, there is some cons, too. For example, you can't start your career once again, from the beginning, and it's really annoying. Maybe the Ivory Tower will release a patch with such opportunity in the future (I hope so). The storyline is weak, but it's not so important in racing game. Don't get me wrong, The Crew isn't perfect, as I said before. But on the other hand it's a huge step forward in comparison with other racing arcades. Give it a chance, don't bury it alive, or for the next decade we will be "enjoying" crap like NFS Rivals. Do yourself a huge favor and immediately go into the options and change handling to hardcore, set steering sensitivity to about 3/4, put steering speed factor all the way right, and steering dead zone all the way left. Makes the game lots better and why they set the defaults like they did is anyone's guess.

After playing the beta and now the full release, I can safely say that The Crew, while far from a perfect game, is definitely worth a play if you are any kind of fan of the NFS Underground series or Forza Horizon series. Why? Because this game is essentially the best of both of those games in one package.

While I'd love to see a true sequel to NFS Underground 2, I fear that something of that caliber will never come to light. Instead, we have The Crew. This isn't a bad thing, per se, as The Crew definitely pulls ideas from the street racing games of yesteryear, but you can see just from the sheer scope of the design of The Crew where things could have been tightened. This is just my opinion, however, as like I said before, I wish there were a true NFS: UG sequel.

First of all, the customization is amazing. Think UG 2 x100. From paint jobs, to livery, to body kits, to neon, to wheels, to even the interior of the car. Almost everything can be tweaked or changed to your liking. The big question I get asked is "do all of these mods affect stats"? Well, yes and no. Rigging your 350z with big knob tires and rally gear will get you better handling off-road, but smaller nuances like changing the sideskirts will not net you additional downforce points. This is definitely an "arcade" style racing game and therefor you should not expect the level of tuning detail you would find in say Forza 5. Much like Horizon, the game is about the open road and in this case multiplayer. It is called "The Crew" after all, and the name wouldn't tailor much to the genre if it didn't have something to do with being a part of something bigger.

Multiplayer is seamless and is surprisingly stable at launch. Running missions or races with friends is as easy as the click of a button. I haven't experienced any detrimental lag thus far, either. I do recommend playing this game with friends, however. It makes the experience much more enjoyable than romping around with strangers. Although playing with randies does have its moments.

Now there is a story here, and much like Horizon it sort of takes a back seat. It basically just gives you a backdrop and a reason to be in this world. It is pretty run of the mill fast and furious-y, but it does its job. But if you buy racing games for the story then you're probably in it for the wrong reasons. The main pull of The Crew is its MMO-like appeal with a LARGE and I mean LARGE open world. Let's put it this way, it took me a solid half an hour to drive from Detroit to Seattle in real-time. That's big. And yes, those are real cities you can race in and around and to-and-from. And man does it feel good.

The sense of speed is spot on in this game. And that, for me, is a huge factor in how well I enjoy a racing game. If I'm going 100mph I want it too look and feel like I'm going that fast. The graphics, while impressive at times, do suffer from a slightly low-fi look at times. I imagine this is because of the sheer size of the world. Your car will always be in the spotlight and will always look the best, however. So don't worry about that. I can forgive slightly muddy textures in the environment as long as my car and all of my customization looks good.

All in all, if you enjoy racing games and the appeal of a wide-open country world with friends to road-trip and race with, I would highly recommend The Crew. Especially if you're a fan of the NFS UG or Forza Horizon series.

Ok bad news first. You have to be online and signed into psn to play this. This basicly means that you will need to pay the psn annual fee to play this game, even if you had no plans of playing an on-line session, you still have to be online to even get past the title screen!. This is a major turn off for a lot of people. Imagation my furstation when my wifi dropped off in the first mission of the game and I was kicked back to the title screen and I had to reset my routor and restart the whole game. Also the game and your system needs to be fully updated and if psn goes down you can't play your game. Unforuntaly this can not be changed so we will just have to see how this goes. Also I found in the early part o fthe game, right after you pick your first car and you are free to go whereever you want that you can not intract with all online players and that with the ones you can you have very limited opations. I expect that I would have to get further in the game before I can race other player online, but if everyone is forced to go online from the start why are there holding back some of the functions?

The next bad thing about the game is some of the graphics and story elements. Ok off the bat the story sucks, and you know it is going to suck when the game gives you the opation to skip cut scences the first time around. The story is a throw away plot that makes no sense really and the missions are so basic there are silly. I don't think you would buy this game for it's story though, I got it for the cars and experincing the open world. Now the grpahics are basiclly hit and miss some places are good and other bits of the world ie part of cites look like ps2, boring lifeless spaces. Also the other AI cars on the road do not act realist at all, for example I was driving at my maxium speed on a staright part of a city and the ai pick up truck was driving faster then me! Ai cars sometimes crash into each other and just sit there, nobody gets out and I bet those cars would just disappear when I drive a certian distance away. Also I found that trains can drive staright thought concreate blocks put there to stop you from driving in certain parts but if this is a ture open world I want to drive everywhere.

THe last bad point that people have brough up is that in the game you can buy all the best cars and level yourself up to the max level for something like £50. first why would anyone do that after you just spent the same amount on the game and secondly you can get all that stuff if you just pay though the game. ok that is the bad stuff now for the good stuff.

The best thing about the game is the open world, aprt from some of the blad graphices I talked about, THe opne world is bloody massive! For example I was drive for about an hour yeserday away from detroit just following roads and when I looked at the world map I had handly driven anywhere. The map cover most of the USA. I belive that a few states are missing but for the most part it is all there incudling all the important land marks. Plus you will probaly find some you didn;t know about. For exmaple I was driving around somewhere near the detroit cost line and I found a theme park!

The cars in the game look real and I like the customiation that is possible that is a good selection and the races I tried where fun if not a bit too easy. It is fun driing around and the little mini games on the road are good.

I like the rpg elements but I am worried that when I max out I am going to be bored again and I am also worried that the dev team behind this game will not support it for ever as the review so far have not been good.

In sumamry I would like a crew 2 game sooner reather then later and the one feature that I would like to see is OFFLINE single player. The crew 2 is a good game just be prepared to work with it's floors

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I like The Crew for its very vast world. It is a good representation of the USA containing a lot of key spots.
It is not a graphical masterpiece but we have some very nice light effects and reflects, and the cars are nice too, only the environment is low quality, but that's the sacrifice to do for a 5000 square km fully open-world map.
The Spec system is a good idea which allows to vary race styles. The handling is special and arcade, the whole game isn't realistic when it comes to compare cars specifications, but it is not The Crew's point and at least you don't have to systematically pick the "best car" but your favorite one (from a certain Spec) with no big difference compared to the other (same Spec) cars. All of this applies if the cars are equally customized obviously.
It has good online features (with bad servers unfortunately) and I love to cruise around with random online people I meet on the road. You really feel free in this game.
Car customization is decent, the only bad thing is that you can't make your own vinyles (stickers) but have to choose among preseted ones.
The bad aspects of this game are the following ones :
    - Damages on the cars are incoherent and very basic.
    - There are a lot of loading and connexion problems.
    - Despite its immensity, the map is very basic. For example, I haven't seen any 10 lanes highway in LA, what I mean is that all the highways are the same 4 or 6 laned roads, all the trees look the same, in other words every element always has the same skin, wherever you are.
    - 2 extensions not worth investing except if you love cop cars or drag races

Apart from that, there is a good selection of cars with plenty of customisation (unlike NFS 2015 - GOD what a let down) if you're not restricted to what class you can chose.
    I would recommend this game

This is a great game. The exploration is just super fun. I can drive from one side of the United States to he next or travel to places I have been using the map. The story is also fun to race in.

The Crew is the inofficial successor of Test Drive Unlimited 1+2 (inofficially because the developer team of TDU rebranded themself and switched to a different publisher). The Crew is basically TDU 3, it's the very same game engine, many cars are the same, same driving mechanics, a new story and a new map. In regards to the story, TDU 1 and 2 were light years ahead to the Crew. The maps of TDU 1 (1:1 Hawai) and TDU 2 (1:1 Ibiza and 1:1 Hawai) both were great. Now in TDU 3 aka The Crew 1 one can drive a smaller incarnation of USA, unfortunately it's a lot smaller than the real country, so many things are missing, but the map is still big. Unfortunately also that The Crew still uses the TDU graphic engines which means a lot of straight roads and very wide roads and buildings cannot be very close to the road - an game engine limitation. So big cities like New York look weird, e.g. the Time Square looks very weird, etc. Some story missions to catch cars are to hard. Some races are too long. The in-game cutscenes look a weird sometimes, as one sees only cars and no one enters or exits cars. TDU 1+2 had way better cutscenes. With several updates and addons The Crew received good graphics and nice weather effects. Unfortunately The Crew is an always online game, it's just a bad business decisions, there is no technical reason for it - TDU 1+2 run fine in offline mode, and when you were online you could play online against others or just see them driving around. The Crew 2 which uses the same USA map again, hopefully improves the game engine to feature 2018 graphics and more interesting story missions and a better car physics and more fun things beside the main story and less grinding gameplay and no always-on-dongle. I'm kinda late (just a little :D), but I wanted to give out my thoughts on the game.

The story is pretty cliche, but it doesn't mean that it's bad (or it may be just me because I like revenge stories). The selection of cars is really nice, but it misses some top JDM cars, for ex. 180/200/240sx, R32 GT-R, 350z (but it has a 370z as a replacment), Silvia, etc. The classes are interesting

You can even buy a Porsche (or as it is on The Crew - RUF) and make it an Off-Road beast. The map is probably the best thing about the game - it's a not much scaled down map of the whole damn USA. The off-road driving is so fun! The graphics were kinda outdated, but after the Wildrun update, they became pretty nice (atleast for me). Even now I enjoy just driving around in off-road cars with my friends.

First off the map is unlike anything I've ever seen, better than any of the horizon maps. That's the main reason it's given such a favorable score from me. The bad side of this game is awful however. Many of the races and missions are just logic-less. You could have a 900 rated Ferrari but catch-up would still enable a Hummer to beat you. 60% of the races will require at least a 2nd try.First off the map is unlike anything I've ever seen, better than any of the horizon maps. There is one in particular where you had to take down a **** prison bus that was somehow always a step quicker than your best car, which just makes zero sense. Also the main character Alex is a cocky little **** and the other characters are silly **** But above all of the trash story missions, the free roam aspect of the game was very enjoyable. From the tip of Maine to Baja California it's about a 75 mile drive so the map is pretty large. It also features many landmarks and destinations that you can interact with and drive through. Two of my favorites are the Ski Jumps near Salt Lake City and the Plane Cemetery in Tuscon. The car type system is nice but only 2 of the 5 really matter at the end of the game. The 5 types of cars are Street, Dirt, Perf, Raid, and Circuit. Street, Perf, and Circuit are for On road use and Dirt and Raid are for offroad use. But as it turns out, Street is just a **** version of Perf, which is just a **** version of Circuit. And to that effect, Dirt is just a **** version of Raid. So the only 2 that really end up mattering are Raid and Circuit. It would be better if they made the lesser 3 more essential in one way or another but it doesn't bother me too much. But if your like me and like games with big interesting maps, The Crew is worth a shout Expand

8/10. This map is huge, and its graphics are pretty good for a 2014 game. There are many activities to do around the US and does have pretty good lighting. A few problems I do reconcile is that the story was kind of bland and too quick, and the objectives have somewhat little variety to it. But overall, if you want to explore America without the comfort of your seat, this is the game for you.

Of course the enviroment and little details are not as nice as in The Crew succesor "The Crew 2" but really, who is looking at such a little thing when going 250 km/h or so. Many racing disciplines was really refreshing idea + it all was programmed to be in one game, back before there wasn't any game witch let player ride on terrain, road etc. with diffrent cars, accualy everyone behave diffrent on other surface. Of course I am writing about arcade type of car games, not simulations because we know there was such game like Dirt or WRC which are simulations. (8) Very Good. Innovated, but perhaps not in the right choice for everyone. This score indicates that there are many good things to be had, but arguable so.

Not a bad arcade racer. It is an impressive how they made a mini USA, just wish the smoothed out some of the turns since it feels a like a computer just auto made the roads. Felt like they weren’t touched by a developer. At first the graphics were pretty bad but after a few months after release they provided a free update that improved the visuals and added weather. Story is decent but nothing memorable.

It's unfortunate to see that so many people rate games as if they were mentally challenged. It would also help if people only review a game they actually own, because if they did they wouldn't be talking about "PS2 graphics". No, the graphics are not groundbreaking but the cars and their direct environment look good, stuff that's a bit further away might look a bit less impressive (I wouldn't know I don't pay much attention to it) but it's not bad up to a point where I actually notice and get bother about it. All in all, graphics are fine, I've seen much much much worse.

Gameplay: I know a lot of people that were excited about this game but then cancelled their pre-orders cause of the though (some would use the word poor) handling they experienced in the beta... problem is that the handling at the start of the game isn't that great but it does get a lot better once you progress. Later in the game when you get performance and circuit spec and some perks from the HQ, the handling really does get a lot better.

The story: I don't understand the comments on this... ok, it's a thin plot, who cares? It's a video game, a race game even, not a goddamn movie. In fact this plot is no worse than that of your average Fast & Furious movie, I bet half of the people complaining will probably be raving over the next installment from that series...

All in all I think this is quite a good game. It's a fantastic concept, the map is huge, there's large amount of collectibles to keep you busy. It's just a shame the game lacks a bit of polishing and there's some annoying bugs and glitches (getting stuck on loading screen, black screens, crew members going invisible...) which do cause a lot of frustration.

Considering the massive amount of arcade racing titles currently on PS4 (yes, this is sarcasm) this is imo just a must have for any fan of the genre. For those of you who played Test Drive Unlimited 2 and liked it, you're gonna have a lot of fun playing this one.

Yes, it has a lot of minor and a few major flaws:
The tuning system has no depth...it looks cool at first, but as soon as you start clicking you realise, there is not much to do. The visual tuning is a complete joke. You can't use different layers of vinyl, you have to choose one and you can't change the freaking color of your vinyl...why??? It's pure luck, if the color of your desired vinyl fits the desired color of your car...that is almost an insult to any racing game fan...

Another thing that kind of left a sour taste are the graphics...i own both the PS 4 and the PC version...considering the size of the game, i knew not to expect a racing beauty like Driveclub of Need For Speed Rivals (Rivals maybe a VERY BAD NFS in terms of the racing itself, but the Frostbite Engine looks gorgeous!!) but still the overall graphics of the game on Playstation are somewhat disappointing...thats not what we were promised by the Next-Gen Publishers....the PC version of The Crew looks amazing in comparison.

But to be honest, those are imo the worst parts...yes, the AI is often unfair, but name ONE arcade racing game with a realistic and fair AI...please!? The original NFS Most Wanted (not the new trash that ripped off the name!) had the most unfair police chases ever, some of the challenges in the game were completely dependend on luck, not skill....but thats how arcade racing games work...

One of the reviews states that "It's impossible to control the car"...i'm sorry, but that only shows that racing games aren't your cup of tea, move on please.
The handling is actually quite nice. If you just fight through the first 5 driver levels you'll notice a HUGE difference...this is supposed to be a MMO remember...it's like complaining about a Level 1 WoW character because he doesn't have any skills, so the game must be bad...

The Crew isn't as good as Forza Horizon and the original NFS Underground and Most Wanted, granted...
But it's definitely worth a shot! Just the sheer size of the map is a must-see and must-experience for any racing game fan! Definitely not a 10....but definitely not worse than Driveclub! :D

The reality is that what we got barely passes as a spite of good quality, and more like a wanna be driving simulator with the effect of totally breaking the law.

Now that's not to say it's all bad, I mean on a casual user level it really excels in giving you a enjoyable driving game, so here are some good points to start positive. The driving is really nice and I mean nice, the various types of cars and the way they behave on the different surfaces adds the click of realism to your high speed antics and 1 second in it races.

The next point is based on the model of cars, now there are not loads, but what we get is a good selection of different ranges that suit everyone's play style. My only critique with this is the various kits you can apply, for example a dirt spec or performance spec, and how only certain cars can have some where others can have more.

The final good point is the visuals, now the open world is great but the visual appearance is lacking in the wow look at me department. However the look of the cars is nice, the sleek designs, paint jobs and wheel trims look really nice no matter if your out for a Sunday drive or cursing north of 300mph on the narrow alleys of Detroit.

Now for the bad, playing the game is wobbly to put it nicely, the missions seem rinse and repeat and the competition in races is stupid often blaring in to a giant pile up and you winning 25 seconds in front of everyone else. Also the constant little challenges you face whilst driving is beyond annoying, for example I want to drive really fast get use to my new car, oh wait let me do the slalom challenge first.

As far as story missions go, they don't improve, having you either race against the clock, race through checkpoints, or race against such and such before the time runs out. There are other things but worth mentioning is not really necessary as you can probably guess there either time related or collect something.

In conclusion I'll hand it to Ubisoft and Ivory Tower, they went ambitious and took the risk, the problem was that they had so much room and little in the way of things to purposefully fill it up. If your looking to buy don't get overly excited it bottles up nicely as a cool driving game, but what it wanted to be it never quite was.

Ubisoft gave it a good shot at the MMO driving game but ultimately it came out short of good. I'll start with the cons:
Cop chases suck- It's understandable that the cops are going to catch up to you but the way the cops move is too over the top. Not only do they catch up to you quick but they'll get in front of you and brake to stop you and you don't want that to happen. Why? Because

Cop chases suck- It's understandable that the cops are going to catch up to you but the way the cops move is too over the top. Not only do they catch up to you quick but they'll get in front of you and brake to stop you and you don't want that to happen. Why? Because they are like tanks. Crashing into them is like crashing into a wall and the quickest way to get busted. That sucks because the best part of car chases is causing mayhem but instead you get overpowered cops that aren't fun at all. Don't get me wrong, you can outrun them but again not very fun.
    The AI sucks- It's not about what kind of car you have but the difficulty level. If it says it's impossible to beat it WILL BE impossible to beat even for your friend in his maxed out car trying to help you. Also, just like the cops they tend to act ridiculous in missions like the takedown ones which brings me to my next point;
Half the missions suck- If it ain't your old fashion race then it's going to suck. Takedown missions which should be the best end up sucking since; 1) they drive incredibly fast. There is a mission where you have to take down a bus. Good Luck trying to catch up. 2) You cannot use the environment to take down your opponent. Crash him into a wall, car, tree, etc. your opponent will take no damage other than the hit you gave him. There are other like the one where you have to collect certain things which tend to be frustrating trying to navigate on hills and dirt. For the most part most missions you won't look forward to half of these missions and the other ones are just ok.
RNG- Yes it's in the game. Wouldn't be an MMO if it wasn't though this ain't really an MMO. Once you get to max level (50) you unlock the ability to win platinum parts. The best parts that give you the best stats. The trick is getting the level 50 part as the rewards tend to give you a random level part from 40-50. The worst part though is that there is also a random bonus you get that increases a random stat higher than normal and if your aiming for that level 50 piece with a specific bonus; good luck because you'll be sitting there for hours trying to get that piece if you ever do. Though if your just looking for that level 50 I will admit that this RNG is a little more forgiving than other games (Destiny *cough* *cough*) as there were times that I obtained a level 50 piece in my first try or first 5 tries.
Crash cam-I hate it and don't know why they keep putting it. It made sense in some games but here where the focus is just driving (because you can't take down cops... well you can but it ain't fun) it doesn't make sense to have. I'll give them this though; you can press circle to skip the scene but the option to not watch it altogether would've been better since the times it decides to come out is random.
There are good parts to this though.
Open world- As in the whole US. It is a compressed version of course but still big enough that it will take you a good long while to drive across the map. The MMO aspect of seeing random people is there but plays no part in anything since there isn't any world events for people to do. The scenery is nice even though the landmarks have no description of what's great about the it but it's still nice to drive in familiar territory.
Co-op- You can have friends join you in anything which makes the game better because playing with friends is always better. That and the fact that they make some story missions easier like the cop chases as the game chooses one to be the target and the other has to take down the cops to help the friend escape and being able to ram head into cops is nice since it's the only time you can do this without penalty. In races though it can be boring since the AI keeps up with anyone that's in the lead meaning if your max level friend is helping you and you just started you better be comfortable in last place or somewhere down there while your friend does all the work even while your trying to keep up. It's not your fault though its just how the game is.
Different specs- This game lets you have a ride ready for any type of terrain. Need a car good on dirt roads? Take out your Dirt spec car. Going to drive over hills? There's your Raid spec car. For asphalt there's street, performance, and circuit. It's nice having a car for different types of terrain but it would've been much better if all cars had all specs. Instead some cars may have only one spec and only few have all specs. That my change though in future updates but for now you'll have to get different cars for each spec.
For the rest there is the in-between because I can say equal good and bad things about them.
-Customization is so-so. It's there but some specs are really limited in options like the circuit spec but at least they have different vinyls to make your car look different enough.
Ran out of space but that's my review.

The large and open map is the most impressive thing about this game and despite comments of others, the graphics can look very nice in places - storm clouds over city skylines in the distance look very atmospheric and there is good variety of scenery over a very large area.

The large and open map is the most impressive thing about this game and despite comments of others, the graphics can look very nice in places - storm clouds over city skylines in the distance look very atmospheric and there is good variety of scenery over a very large area.
Performance is also impressive, I get 60fps at 4k with all on maximum (excluding txaa) using 2 gtx 970's and I have not come across anything in the way of game breaking bugs.

Gameplay however can be hit and miss, the format is fairly standard for an open world racer with various points on the map having events of different types to compete in and when starting an event you can select coop and the game will attempt to find another player in the area to join with you, however the game does a poor job of explaining some of the gameplay mechanics as it throws information at you too fast and in a confusing manner.
For a game called 'the crew' I do think the interactions with other players could have been expanded greatly - often the world can feel empty and the need for another player to join you unnecessary although if you have a large group of friends to play with it could potentially be a lot more fun
    .
More disappointments come from the car handling, which is universally bad - they have gone for a very arcade like feel and the end result is that cornering and handling is unsatisfying and the vehicles lack weight - you won't be pulling off powerslides and tight cornering here.
Following on from this the AI is fairly poor, often a mission can seem impossibly hard and you beat it with luck as opposed to skill and the police are not enjoyable to escape from.

It is not by any means unplayable but it could have been a lot better, it is a shame such a nicely made world is let down by the driving aspects. But if you need something to fill the gap left by lack of a need for speed game this year, you could do a lot worse.

Some of the cut scenes are very well presented and look amazing whilst others look like they are from an early release of a PS3 game.

Overall this is an enjoyable game but the mixture of quality in visuals and game play will annoy you no end. I will change my review rating once Ubisoft/Ivory Tower patch the game.

"But the it's supposed to feel arcade-like", this comment i would agree with, but however the cars seem boat-like and unresponsive, although its not bad to a level where the game becomes unplayable. The game though does have some redeeming features, The upgrade system for example, when completing certain missions you can unlock a part for your car, and you can automatically fit this to your vehicle without the need of visiting a garage. The fast travel option can also be a life saver, or at least a time saver. I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a racing game on the ps4, but only as there are not many great ones out there at the moment, it might be money better spent buying GTA however, if you are looking for a purely multiplayer racing game, although the cars might not be liscenced, they handle better and the map design is a lot greater. For starters, the graphics are far from Next-Gen, and I mean really far, which is a major let down in any driving game.

Secondly, the so called "crew" is completely broken. It's limited to 4 players (who will often leave the crew or be forced out by random bugs), so you'll spend 90% of your time alone. This makes it only mildly interesting if you play with friends. But, above all, being in a crew doesn't really adds anything of value to the game. It's not like you can go on special missions with your crew members or anything (like the trailers led us to believe). It's just the same boring missions but with more cars on them.

The story is boring, missions are repetitive (chasing down a guy, smashing boxes, race against time) and multiplayer is nothing to lose your sleep over. Not a shred of innovation.

Cars, well, car customization is acceptable, but the original release didn't have many cars to choose from. Now they are adding some cars periodically, but you have to pay for them. Cars physics is also something that could be better, as well as the signs of damage in your car (which will be reset after a short while).

The best thing about this game is the variety of skills available, these sorts of short challenges that will award you a better car part. It also has many hidden things that encourage exploration. For PS4 it's not a bad title, since by the time of its release we didn't have many car games to choose from; but for XBox it's not worthwhile.

An initially promising, good looking game, completely ruined by CHEAP mechanics and frustrating game design. What's worse, is that the game's narrators repeatedly INSULT you at every turn. Otherwise, a mix between Forza Horizon and a story based Need for Speed game of old.

That's a problem because PSN often gets hacked offline. Still a pretty fun game that will keep you playing for about a month until you get bored of the map. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So. The crew a open world video game set in America where you start off the story mode in a police chase then after that you go to a street race event where you pick up your brother and take him to a spot to meet someone and well if you haven't played it yet despite it being 2020 a spoiler.. some guy called Shiv comes and kills your brother and he drops the pistol on the floor and drives away and when the police come the frame you and after that you join the 5/10 street racer club or gang or something to get to the top spot which is V8 where Shiv is which is why he kills your brother because your brother was the top and he was the spot down (V6)... Or basically you get released out of jail and you buy a car to start street racing to climb up the positions... Some story missions are infuriatingly hard and there's a 4 hour faction race.... BUT there are some things I like about the crew like how there are american landmarks like the statue of liberty and Mt. Rushmore and yada yada... Now the driving physics are questionable mainly collisions with walls and other cars involving flying when going 300 KPH down the highway and hitting the front of a car and hitting a stone wall stops you instantly and sometimes the light from the sparks goes longer then the sparks coming off your car/bike/monster truck. The online is awful with cars 300 meters behind me suddenly teleporting in front of me but its probably the game connecting to a American server when I'm in Oceania. Now it may just be because I have a launch PS4 but I'm constantly getting 15-20 fps when playing and also a race track is not there and it is Circuit Of The Americas because COTA opened in 2012 and this game was released in 2014 and I don't know if I'm blind but I don't think Texas exists in this game yet they predicted the future by putting Trump's wall... Ok I don't think a 5000 character review is necessary so I'll just leave it at 1936 letters Expand

What don't I like? Well - the world just feels... cheap. I cannot get past how poor the graphics look for a new gen game, it just cannot compare to the likes of Forza Horizon 2 (another open world driving game, though admittedly a lot smaller). I can forgive that though if it had good handling mechanics - but it just feels off and weird.. hitting other cars and walls feels like you're a bowling ball being thrown down an isle with padded barriers on the side - You just keep bouncing off everything! And the cars just feel.... weird.

Whilst the world is huge, it feels empty - for an online game I only ever ran into a few people (i think the max is 7) and I experienced a lot of drops when trying to play with other racers in events. For a world so large - it really needs a load more online players roaming around.

What do I like? The world size... it is massive and I truly appreciate that. The cars sound good for a non sim game and I enjoy the customisation, it runs very deep. There is also a pretty good selection of cars, although it is small by comparison to other games. And I really like some of the small details when you go into new cities or territories - for example the taxi's change their livery / style - it's a nice touch.

But I keep coming back to it just feels off and a bit boring.... maybe it will grow on me, but for now it really doesn't feel like a great game worthy of paying full-price.
