Expand

This is my first tales game experience.  surprisingly and unexpectedly i love and enjoy the game overall. It is a nostalgia feeling-good experience with the elements i most love in an RPG particularly in a final fantasy classic. It has the same formula but with its own authenticity. The strength of the game is the character development and its dialogue it is one (if not) the best. But after Arc II there is a little bit drag until the end. The plot and storyline is not perfect but fairly good. What i dont like about this game is its battle system for 3 major factor (1) it is clunky, inconsistent, and feels outdated (2) limited skill progression with underwhelming and confusing special moves. Although the graphics is outdated, it looks good and age well. I am excited to play my next tales game.

    Character development/dialogue 9/10
    Graphics 8/10
    Gameplay 6/10
    Battle system 6/10
    Story / narrative - 8/10
    Progression - 7/10

Story and characters and world are bland. Gameplay is bland. There are stats and things that can potentially be interesting. But I don't find the actual gameplay interesting

I think this game deserves a 7'5. Not a bad game but nothing special either. In my opinion most of the Tales games are average games and this is one more of them. As always, voices are good but I miss more dramatic/emotional/touching moments in this story. In the first half of the game it's impossible to get lost but in the second part it can be tricky to know where to go with so many places and the map is not very helpful. Also, read the synopsis in the menu when you don't know where to go. Combats are good but repetitve. By the end of the game I was spending "light bottles" just to skip the combats because they started to be quite anoying. You can find this items or buy them. Also, before going to Tarqaron buy as many items as you can to use them in the final battle. Also, don't forget to improve your weapons in the shops and unlock the "titles" of your characters if you want to change their outfits. About the optional dialogues, just watch them when you feel to. Don't worry, as in all the Tales games they don't provide any useful information and they're totally skippable, so don't be sorry. In my opinion, there should be less characters and the game should be shorter or have more interesting moments. I'd recommend this game to rpgs ang anime fans.

It took me a little more of 36 hours because I went straight to the main story. In my opinion it's better than Berseria although my favorite is still Tales of Graces F (and I played several Tales of).

I've played more JRPG that I care to remember ever since I fell in love with the genre with FF7 on PS1. And Tales of Vesperia Remaster is one of those JRPGs that fall to the mediocre, unmemorable category. There is nothing in the game that stands out. Its just very dull drudge for most of the journey.
-I've not played the original, and judging by this, I did not miss much!
    I'd recommend

I'd recommend only fans of the original buy this, and others take a look at the massive amount of fresher, and better JRPGs on offer for PS4.

Enjoyed the combat system and storytelling a lot, all other gameplay mechanics and sidequests, too. A very well done classic JRPG. -3 points for the End-User License Agreement or whatever it was when starting the game.

The story is a bit slow, and it left me a bitter taste with some characters, the villains do not inspire me at all

The game was fun but the campaign and characters ultimately left much to be desired. Yuri gives the illusion of a more in depth character but doesn't really go far enough in my opinion and the story just started becoming kind of a drag.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is well worth your time, the story and in particular the characters are some of the most fleshed out and unique individuals that you can’t help but grow attached to. The flashy yet deep combat system enhances what is already a fantastic JRPG. Any fan of the genre needs to check this out.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is truly a love letter from Namco Tales Studios to fans of the franchise. While the main story is a touch trite and the combat a little dull, it’s worth it to accompany this cast of interesting and nuanced characters on their journey to save the day.

A paper-based fantasy offers dozens of hours of quality entertainment, superbly written dialogues and countless memorable characters and moments. Tales of Vesperia is a safe bet. [Issue#294]
