Worst business model of all time (as of now, all content costs $200 MINIMUM, more if you didn't buy the "Season Pass" (more like "Character Pass for this season")), content differences between PS4 and PC now. Go to Hell, Capcom.

Poor poor sequel to a great game !

So my favourite game franchise just went awful what the hell happened since street fighter 4 ?? So Street FIghter has gone thru many changes, and number 4 was a where i last played and liked it. It looke dgood, flowed smoothly and had some good on and offline game modes to master. Then this happened? take out some nice parts of 4, add new ones

It looke dgood, flowed smoothly and had some good on and offline game modes to master.

Then this happened? take out some nice parts of 4, add new ones that are so so ( meh ), then make it almost exclusively online.
    um, why?
Servers need to be spot on for this to be effective, and they never are, even now.

The biggest insult is the mortal kombat inspired single player, that came as DLC.
its utterly crap. Un fluidic and so badly scripted, cut scene after cut scene leading to a 1 round match, and then repeat. with loading. and loading, and ugh.

Its a great looking game, fights can be intense, and i find the only decent and challenging part of the entire game is the survival 10, 30 50 or 100 rounds, with booosts in between. That i do like, but it cant save the game.
New charactors were nicely done, but this game needed some things to stay the same as it was.
Feels as let down for the single player as Soulcalibur 5 was, and hoping rest.of the game keeps us going, but like Soul Cal'

Im scoring low because even though the game looks pretty, has same Street fighter vibe, its los tout by online only and awful single player DLC to try top boost it.

Since it came out unfinished several months ago we were promised a well polished cinematic story mode in June and now that it's finally arrived a month late its awful. The characters are dull and uninteresting, the voice acting is often bad and the writing is horrendous.

The choice of characters is very limited at this point and if you must have this game i recommend that you understand that Capcom is playing the long game by slowly releasing characters one at a time in season passes so they make more money off the masses you are suckered into this game. So far of this first season I am only hype for Juri and Ibuki and who knows how much longer its going to take for Juri to drop. Every character has been released late so whenever it does happen i am expecting it to be a month later than that. I recommend waiting to buy this game when season 2 is announced and seeing if there is a special edition online version with all the season one dlc in the future.

The one good this is the characters feel different when you play them but its Street Fighter. Their not going to feel radically different from one another. Also i've heard they fixed the netcode but i don't play too much online so I personally don't give a **** about that.

There is no arcade mode. Instead there are small story modes where you just mash crouching jab like mike ross playing Balrog and you can win every match. To unlock costume colors who have to play survival mode which is akin to having your teeth pulled out.

In short buy Ultra Street Fighter 4 or Third Strike until Capcom makes amends with this game. Also WHEN TEKKEN.

What a mess this game turned out to be. Where to begin...

    - There is no proper arcade mode. Instead, there is a crippled introductory "story" mode and a proper single player story mode that's way too long and repetitive (Karin over, and over, and over again) ... if you like Mortal Kombat styled single player mode where it just seems to go on forever - it's in there. If you however expect a normal arcade mode where it gives you a bunch of random characters to fight and a rival or boss end battle, you can forget about it.
    - The netcode is inferior to SF4's netcode. That should be saying something. I know "experts" will say GGPO is superior, but it's not. It's dog **** compared to SF4's netcode. Rollback is the dumbest mechanic ever. Skipping frames altogether so it skips like a bad COD game is equally annoying. It's supposed to freeze like it did in SF4. That way you know exactly what's going on and if the connection's ass - it's ass. And that's fine. We know the internet isn't a perfect medium to play games on. Bad netcode breaks otherwise good games.
    - The waiting. The endless waiting. Waiting. Waiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiing. Do I annoy you yet? Waiiiiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiing. That nuisance you're feeling right now is the nuisance you will feel while playing this game online. Between finding an opponent (which in and of itself can take minutes!!) and being able to control your character in Round 1 takes around a minute if not longer. That is clearly unacceptable. It is also not a loading problem as you can test this by playing Survival Mode and checking how long it takes to change background places every 5 matches. Online, they put ARTIFICIAL delay in. So it is DELIBERATE. They DELIBERATELY make you wait. Every. single. time. Not frame delay, but seconds of delay for fluff. For nothing. For a f-cking globe that's spinning, here comes a new challenger, fade to white. This is the main reason I hate this game. The only way I can manage to not lose my mind while playing it is do other stuff on a laptop and casually listen to hurt sounds because I'm getting my ass handed to me after eons of "loading" time. This is a fighting game. Action. It's supposed to be fast at everything. Not some MGS snoozefest where you have to wait and wait some more for nothing. It's like Capcom forgot what genre this is and what the audience expects.
    - When playing ranked, you can't select a character prior to the match. Instead, you have to select the character you want to stick with with SEVERAL buttons and MENUS before it's changed. This blew my mind. The whole menu system is f-cked. I have no nicer word for it. They actively choose to make things as obscure is possible where you're looking for the right game mode, settings, preferences etc. This isn't a "git gud" scenario. Menus shouldn't be a chore to learn as if it's some grind to excellence. Discerning people may pose the argument that selecting a character each time prior to the actual match slows the process down and they may point to the previous point I made, and technically they would be right. However, the way SF4 dealt with this is still much faster in seconds to gameplay than this monstrosity. I have no problem with sacrificing up to 5 seconds selecting a character to play. I do have a problem with minutes of waiting for no reason whatsoever every single time. AVGN says it best with his catchphrase: What were they thinking?!
    - Communication: There is none. We're back to the Stone Age. You can't message people if you don't know their real nickname on PSN. For some retarded reason they thought it'd be a great idea to give us an alias. This means you can't trash talk, ask questions, add friends. It is impossible to add an opponent you met to your friends list. How backward is that! Honestly! The closest to this feature is adding a Favorite from within the game so you can see their recordings and shoot them invites if they're on, but it is a far cry from what it's supposed to be like. Let's reinvent the wheel, guys! **** (c) 2016 Capcom
    - This is a minor gripe I guess but it is a very real nuisance: whenever you're at the Results screen, the PS4 fan will go bonkers. It will rev up to probably 70% or even 100% until you hit X to return to menu. Now, read my lips: There is NO reason. NO. REASON. For it to rev up like
that. It is a match result screen. It puts zero strain onto the console to keep that screen up. There is no animation, there is no loading, NOTHING. And yet the PS4 sounds like an F16 about to take off. This is an issue that's been around since the game's inception as far as I can tell.
    - After picking the low hanging fruit for easy Fight Money (do all the easy stuff to get in-game currency) it dries up and there's no quick way to get extra money besides grinding it out for hours to get a meager 1000 FM by levelling up a character. One character costs 100.000 FM, mind. So that's 200 hours to buy one character with FM. -character limit reached-

The game is completely broken, online is terrible for a game that focus in online multiplayer and ranked matches. If youre in Australia the server matchmaking links you with some1 who is in Mexico, is bizarre.

I wont be playing the game anymore because its one of the games I hoped to be good because im a fan of the franchise. But its just broken garbage, it wont be good, never.

If your really going to buy this game get it used because at least you can save money on disappointment.

If your a pro fighting gamer then your probably playing it on the PC, but if you are a casual there is nothing here for you! Yes, they have added a story but in my opinion it wasn't worth the weight and it will keep you interested if you have never owned a TV or played a game with a compelling storyline.

The fighting is great but it takes a lot of learning to get good at and start putting combos together that are fun and easy to do and personally I find it horrible to play on a PS4 controller so get a fighting pad (thats if your willing to spend that much money after Capcom has pulled such a classic cash grab). If you want to get better at the fighting you will have to play online and have a really good internet connection otherwise your goner hate the s*** out of this game because there is no arcade mode to learn as your favourite characters but there is a good training mode but lets be honest it gets boring beating the s*** out of the AI without it out stopping the game.

Story is weak in all aspects so how does the game modes line up? Well they don't, cause there all getting patched in later when and if the developer wants to add them but at the moment there is nothing, unless you want to count that survival mode where you must fight 100 guys but if you lose once you better get ready for them thrilling 99 rounds of the same repeated opponents speaking of opponents lets get to the roster

With games making such huge leaps in story telling and gameplay these days with loads amount of content meaning the 20% of every game you have ever played you would expect huge line of characters to fight as in this game or at least loads of modes since its such a high profile fighter game as street fighter? You would be wrong if you thought that, in fact you would be wrong even if you expected average. BUT DONT WORRY GUYS CAPCOM ARE PATCHING IN MORE CHARACTERS WITH FREE UPDATES... how often are these updates? Oh there once a month and how many do they add? Oh only one with any game modes? naaaaaah no worries didn't need them anyway

In fact am going to leave it here otherwise am going to fly to japan with the game disc carve it into a shiv and held the devs at ransom with demands of making this game a free to play release and give everyone there money back! Capcom have **** up again and hopefully this company goes down under soon because its given birth to some of my favourite franchises such as Devil May Cry, Resident Evil and Dead Rising and now its killing them all and hopefully we will see them sell of these IP's to much better developers and publishers.

Capcom's seasonal release DLC characters/stages/costumes/colours/everything **** else is yet another money grab from publishers to sap as much as they possibly can without any give or support to the player or community (excluding the capcom pro tour).

The game offers the player very little in terms of any solo-play features; favoring multi-player in every possible way, even the character story mode and free DLC story really just accentuates the money grabbing repugnance of DLCs characters and the sheer lack abd idiocy of the base characters by making you play them very briefly in a headbangingly generic story filled with very little.. ANYTHING. The only thing that can making the pain in your forehead worse from bashing your head off the closest thing in sight is the lack of an Arcade Mode. Replaced with the utter atrocity that is Survival Mode - a mode so infuriating and boring that every character you do this with you end up hating more and more after every victory.

Even character exclusion and appeal to an newer community can be excused; however there is no way to justify paying 1/10th of game's value just for one character (without any of the alternative costumes; that if you would like to get, you either are forced to pay for it or forced to grind for hours just to get). Or even 1/3rd of the games base price just for one season's pass, meaning that with the release of every season you will need to buy another season pass topping the value that you are spending on this inadequacy of a game to ridiculous levels (and don't even get me started on alternative colours).

My aspirations for this game were cut short with the release of Season's Two Akuma and changes to Ryu as the multi-player feel that every second player has watched the same tutorial on how to play the game. If the sudden realisation that this is only going to get worse, haven't hit, the sour taste in your mouth after another 6 seasons of spending money on characters just to play a game that should have been available on day one release should.

    TL;DR: G I V E U S O U R F U C K I N G A R C A D E M O D E & S T O P M A K I N G U S P A Y T O P L A Y.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Street Fighter 5 has great mechanics and adds a brand new look to the franchise. It’s clearly a evolution in terms of visuals compared to Ultra/Arcade/Super Street Fighter 4 but the game lacks in most of the basic aspects expected by any player who already knew the series.
What people been saying about a bare-boned release is true, the game had a full price at launch (when I bought cause i’m a fan) but the content was almost exactly like the beta test. So disappointing.
Capcom made the game intended for online playing and maybe that is the reason of it having almost nothing to do offline for six months besides a very hard survival mode that can let you down in a few minutes and a history intro for each character that you can finish quicker than finding an online match.
The net code doesn’t work properly as well, as it has been eight months since the launch and most of the players still have problems finding a good connection at the battle lounge and – at least for me – they insist in matching me in with far away opponents so the connection is never the best and when i fight someone from my country the connection is not good either (and believe, the problem is not my connection since other games works pretty fine).
The game could be very good in the future and I truly hope it turns out to be as such but for now Capcom didn’t repay all the frustration gamers had along the way of 8 months.

Netcode is absolute trash, resulting in laggy matches that you're penalized for leaving early with a 24 hour time-out and a massive PP loss, making the game a complete waste of time.

The visuals are fine and stylized. The combat as smooth and fluid. But that's about it. The money-sucking Capcom is at it again with charging $60 for an unfinished product. Similar to how they had content already on the disc at release locked behind a paywall in Street Fighter X Tekken.

The game was released with an incredibly small roster, incredibly small stage selection, no story mode, and still no arcade mode an entire year later. I bought this game earlier this year for $15 on ebay and still felt incredibly ripped off despite what had been added by then. I can't imagine how angry I would've been if I had paid full price on release day.

While I definitely am one to prefer quality over quantity, the low quantity lacks any quality as well. Street Fighter V does nothing to grow the fighting game genre which is already having plenty of trouble on its own. The greediness of Capcom will be the death of them soon if they keep this up. Even if you're a massive fan of fighting games, I recommend skipping this one.

Street Fighter V is at the same time, a game that revolutionizes the franchise for the current trend (online) and a real disaster for the old guard of casual fans (offline). After the hype soon after its announcement, what was seen at the launch was a game with a full price ($60 USD) but unfinished, without content but online. This situation caused huge frustration to the fans who made SF the most important franchise of fighting games.

It is clear that the franchise could not fail to be part of the online gaming revolution that is happening (long time ago actually) but almost abandoning the offline mode for casual players brought terrible reception to the game that, except by the "nonsense" contentless, is a great game with an incredible gameplay (in my opinion better than SF IV but still so far for the best SF in terms of gameplay ever released, SF III).

As I said, its qualities are its competitive mode (when the server works, of course) and its gameplay. There are exciting new features, new skills and a drastic change in the style of classic characters, which caused some displeasure but brought new perspectives. However, its qualities end here.

Among its many weaknesses, there is the terrible choice of turning SF V into seasons. What initially seems like a good idea to keep the game always interesting, is a bad business for needing to buy season pass over the years. I'm not totally against games with season pass but if the idea was to do this, it's absurdly unfair to sell it a full price of the game at its launch. It'll be fair costs about $20 at the launch and the other $40 would come for at least the first two seasons (the others seasons could be a bonus additions). The justification for this is its second biggest weakness: the F*** 'fight money' (FM). Again, if we it were fair there would be no problems but Capcom's greed is something that always surprises negatively. Basically it is possible to buy all the additional content of the game using only the game money. The problem is that to make enough money you must be a PRO player (what 95% of players aren't) or you simply spend real money. This pathetic situation is identical to the online mode of GTA V. It makes you think that the company cares about the player giving him the opportunity to get everything "for free" but, in fact, it makes the game's content inaccessible to a huge part of fans forcing them to spend even more real money. Something that should be abominable by everybody is still defended by crazy fanboys, even if that most part of them can not even achieve enough FM to get the full content of the game.

Other negative aspects are technical aspects. Even the graphics being beautiful - which is an obligation with the capacity of the current generation -, the exaggerated cartoon style causes bizarre situations. It is not uncommon seeing hair or part of the fighter's costume to go through them bodies. The scenarios are very beautiful but they've to be bought as well (absurd). The alternative costumes are great and bad at the same time. Great because they offer good options like the classics (always the best) and terrible cause there are plenty of nonsense costumes with no relation with the characters (gangsta Ryu for example).

More negatives are the arcade mode finals (which came as a free DLC a long time after the original release), which are just a frame with a simple art (and dubious taste). The story mode has very fast fights and, most of the time, put in the game only as a pretext to justify being a fighting game, including the poor script - which is not uncommon in the series that always has a simple-bad plot.

The game is a landmark in the franchise. It has the great initiative to introduce even more the franchise to the competitive (what I do not like but it is very very necessary in the present days) and brings great gameplay, making the game really addictive. At the same time, it is the worst SF ever released in terms of content and (lack of) characters available available to casual gamers since SF 1 (1987).

If you are an almost pro player, very competitive and a long-time fan of the franchise, it is mandatory. But if you are part of the vast majority of casual player, it is not recommended (unfortunately). Street Fighter V became a niche game (for pro and online players) inside a niche (fighting games) of industry.

Thought I'd wait for a year until initial gripes and dust had cleared. In it's starting months I'd have given this fighter a 6 due to the skeletal release, but feeling confident it would improve through sheer loyalty to the Street Fighter franchise. (As a fan of 2D fighters over 3D, Street Fighter IV blew me away with how impressive an effort it put out).

A year later... and unfortunately the score has gradually dropped with each few months for me. The enjoyment never lasts, even when the temptation to come back via a new update or character reveal is made by Capcom. Balance issues were rarely fixed, lag and server problems are never ending and have wrecked any will to take the game online, leaving just a story mode and survival mode that feels below par compared to SFV's predecessors. Heck, if they keep this up with lack of communication as well, Street Fighter 2010 may become the least stressful out of the two!

If you haven't got it yet, avoid and go for Tekken 7 or Injustice 2 for a more fulfilling experience. If you own it but were turned away or haven't played it in a few months, there is no reason to come back. I've heard the phrase 'never left beta' thrown about and I have to agree with this one. Never reached its true potential. A real shame for the franchise.

The game had 16 playable characters at launch. Street Fighter IV had 25 characters at launch. More characters will come as patch updates. You can get the characters by buying them with "Fight Money", or you can buy them with season pass which is pointless. The season pass include te DLC characters that you can actually get it free, if you're a idiot who waste the money on a season pass that you will get the DLC characters free.
The season pass also include a PS4 theme, but I don't know how that theme is. The game had 16 playable characters at launch. Street Fighter IV had 25 characters at launch, which is disappointing.

Does it mean that the game is bad? No, I think that the game is actually okay. The game-play is great, but I like the game-play of the Street Fighter IV better.
    The graphics is good.
They also include cross-platform that you can play against PC players which is a great thing.
The DLC will come as patch updates instead that they will make "Super Street Fighter 5" and all that crap. The game also had "Z money". It's like Microtransaction like "Riot points" in League of Legends. Z money was supposed to make you buy Z money that you can buy the DLC characters, but they decided to remove it. Later they made a mode named "Challenge". It's like trials in Street Fighter IV

    Pros:
    - Game-play is great as ever
    - Graphics are great
    - Cross-platform with PC
    - DLC as updates (except the "Premium" costumes
    - Z money removed

    Cons:
    - Not finished
    - No Arcade mode
    - 16 Characters at release (22 with the upcoming patches)
    - Story at release is short AF
    - No mode that you can fight against AI (except Story and Training)
    - Overpriced at launch
    - Season pass is pointless

To be honest I will give this game a 6/10 so far. I was thinking about 4/10 at launch, because of the lacking of content and the "Story" at launch. When the patches came it got improved and I began to like the game even more.
I will later write another review next year to see how Street Fighter V has changed.

On the brighter side of things, Capcom has fully embraced the Udon Comics universe with the games. (SFIV did, but it seems that the expanded universe is what they are going off of now) Personally, I LOVED the comics and it was a welcome sight to see what little story was given to be showcased. Hopefully more will be given in due time.

As for the gameplay, it's sharp as always...the low rating mainly because Capcom gives us a rough stone and expects us to cut it into a diamond. Sorry dude, we are the consumers and your audience; want to keep us onboard, stop screwing us.

In order to unlock characters, you'll have to buy them as DLC or grind online where it takes ages to find a game and when you do, it's so laggy that it is damn near impossible to win. Also some character designs look awkward such as Cammy who looks like an alien or R Mika because well, just take a look at her. In terms of replay value, this game is not very good. After I bought it last year, I played it frequently for about two days then I'd only play it at parties or get together's I'd give this game a 68/100. Expand

One year after its disastrous release, it's sad to see how little CAPCOM has done to address the game's core problems. PatchesOne year after its disastrous release, it's sad to see how little CAPCOM has done to address the game's core problems. Truth be told – it is now clear that the original complaints focusing on how the game was 'betrayed by filthy casuals who just wanted to play single player modes' were nothing but damage control by players who couldn't believe how lackluster this game actually is. Patches were made, characters were added, and still the game feels mediocre at best, whether you're a casual player, or a professional street fighter.
CAPCOM's disrespectful and cupid business model is still at large, and the whole 'support the scene' excuse they've been so disingenuously hiding behind only goes to show how they want to exploit the competitive scene rather than appreciate and help it – going as far as to use them as scapegoats for their notorious business practices.
They successfully created an environment where the only thing that matters is winning at any cost, whether you worked for it or not, regardless of skill, dedication or improvement – and any person that has a problem with that is 'a salty scrub who can't play fighting games'.
The new single player modes can't do anything significant to save this game's credibility, for the single player (or lack thereof) – though it was insulting – was never the main problem with this game. The 8 frame lag, in combination with internet lag (which is always bad, even if you set the search engine filter to 'only the best connections'), and the overall game design and balance choices made by the developers created a game where learning offense routines by heart, auto-piloting and going for punctual YOLO aggression is more rewarding than any other form of play-style. The problem is not that SFV is a guessing game – you can learn to be a good guesser and be smart about it – but rather that the whole risk-reward aspect of the game feels completely out of balance. You can play immaculate for the whole course of a match and get destroyed in less than 15 seconds if your opponent gets ONE opening. By the time you get knockdown and your enemy starts pulling off his setups, you're already playing with your luck. In the end, winning doesn't feel like a legitimate victory, and losing feels worse than ever. If you have some experience with fighting games, you'll spend most of your time wondering how much more can you take before you throw your stick out of the window. How many mindless yolo-scrub approaches will you be able to punish before they get you with one gimmick and completely change the momentum of the match. It doesn't matter how consistent and passionate about fighting games you are, this game will constantly test your limits in the worst way possible : by showing how little the core skills and mindset you built over the years matter in your progression. The only real virtue at stake here will be your patience.
Making this game more aggressive, fast-passed (even with the deliberately built-in 8-frame input lag) and accessible could have been a nice change of pace and a legitimately good direction for the series, but the necessary adjustments to make it worthwhile were not implemented. Some old mechanics were brought back with no modifications, which leads to disastrous results : getting stunned can happen even to players that aren't playing excessively defensive. Between the block strings, frame traps and extended pressure, one can get stunned in a moment's notice without a chance to respond to the aggression. There were no accommodations made in the frame-data and general mechanics in order to make the 8-frame input lag and the internet lag less of a problem to deal with – which is lazy and goes to show how blindly they believed in the whole mindless aggression play-style of this game. The result is clear : by making this game 'better to watch' they made it a pain to play. While clumsily trying to cater to fighting-game outsiders, they created a game that only feels good for those who don't care about the genre – people who don't want to learn anything, and just want a nice 'rank icon' next to their name so they can feel good about themselves for a while – or people whose next paycheck relies on them pretending to have fun with it.

Capcom has not implemented any kind of system to discourage ragequitters. When an opponent knows they are about to lose, they quit, and they do not receive a defeat on their record, you do not receive the victory on your record, your time was wasted, and they receive no kind of penalty or consequence for their actions.

Game is full price ($60) yet lacks the content Street Fighter 4 did at it's launch, lacks a proper single player campaign, which is inexcusable. If they had to release it prematurely with limited content, they should have reduced the price to $40 and labeled it as a prologue. It's unfair for them to charge full price for an incomplete game.

The only reason why i'm giving the game a 2 instead of a zero, is because the core fighting mechanics are great, and it has potential for the future. But I don't evaluate games on what they will be in the future, I evalute them on what they are now.

A full middle finger to the entire fighting game community and the worst Street Fighter release imaginable. Honestly, Street Fighter IV is one of my favorite games, HOW DID CAPCOM ROYALLY SCREW UP THIS BADLY?!?!?

The gameplay is still in the vein of classic Street Fighter, but Capcom's unrepentant consumer greed and shameless DLC plugging ruin any potential this game could have had. All the characters should have been unlocked from the start because the online mode is such a laggy bore fest, you won't even give a **** about playing it. The single player experience is a joke; so bare bones and actually discourages new players from wanting to learn. Take Survival Mode for example; a mode required before unlocking character colours (FFS). This goes from 10 levels in Easy to jumping a significant amount to 30 in Normal, where you face Shin Bison at the end, who is VERY easy to lose against and therefore makes your previous 29 grinded-out matches for nothing. No reward at the end if you fail to beat him.

I feel like the only good thing about the release is the core mechanics of the fighting game seem good, but so much of it otherwise makes you *not* want to play it.

In molti lo troveranno fondamentale, io personalmente no.

-Servers are awful (At launch, servers won't connect. What were the betas for?)
    -No spectator mode online
-Can't rebind keyboard (sucks if you're a keyboard player)
-Horrible clipping issues with hair going through people's chests and bodies
-No arcade stick support (or Mad Catz/any other fight pad support)
-Random crashing that was present in beta (rumored to be caused by Wacom tablet/touch screen)
-Rest of content tacked on as DLC scheduled to come months from now
-Rest of the characters being sold as extra DLC, one coming in a month proving he's already finished, cut content (which you can also use earned fight money to buy, but grinding for it will take forever)

Really Capcom? An Arcade game without an arcade mode?? oriented for online playing? just 16 players? no history mode? 59,90€?? Where back in Super Street Fighter II era, but at least that one wasn't as expensive as SFV... and at last but not least it's laggy online.... clap clap clap Capcom, you're perverting your most iconic sagas and for sure it will have bad consequences in the future...

This game looks and plays great. Awesome graphics and smooth controls. However, there is nothing to play at all. I spent hours trying to play people in the games network, and probably played three matches that lasted less then 2 minutes each. This game would be great if there was a game to play. Worst money ever spent.

16 characters is on the smaller side for a modern full-priced fighting game, but not completely unheard of. The new characters are very hit-and-miss, with a couple that seem like good fits, and the other couple seem out of place. The characters' models are pretty well detailed, but the backgrounds are cookie-cutter boring (and filled with dumb stereotypes). Going along with the backgrounds are the background characters which are absolutely dreadful looking.

As said, the mechanics are great, and seem to be a good, small twist on SF's tried and true style. However, I was never able to test them out against an opponent due 2 hours of matchmaking leading to 0 battles. I had thought the MKX launch server issues were the worst possible outcome, but Capcom seemed eager to prove me wrong.

With no online matches available, the only other things to do are some horribly meaningless battles in a "prologue" for each character (so meaningless you can just press start and choose to skip them), and training. However, the training is as barebones as possible. Training has no challenges (Capcom claims they'll be implemented in March) and there is no information given on the movelist (e.g. hitbox info, properties, etc) other than the buttons used to perform a move.

Capcom promises more content to come "soon," but as I have learned from MvC3 and SFxT, Capcom doesn't deserve any trust in regards to promises made to encourage people to buy their games. As it is, the game doesn't have half of what a fighting game should have, and what it does have simply does not work. Please do not buy this game and encourage this type of shameful behavior from developers.

As I am typing this I am waiting for almost six hours for a match online. The entire story mode can be finished roughly within 23 minutes and there is no arcade mode, leaving the players with playing survivor mode or training mode over and over again while waiting for online matches.

I am a Street Fighter fan. If you say fighting game, I think of Street Fighter. I don't play Tekken, Mortal Kombat or whatever other fighting games are out there, Street Fighter HAS been my fighting game since I was a kid. And it pains me to say that Capcom has failed me and fans like me who have been anticipating this game even since it was announced. I preordered it the first week it became available on the PS store for Christ's sake!

Despite having excellent gameplay I refuse to give this game even a 1, simply because this is not a game, it's a glorified demo. When the rest of the features arrive by June 2016 may be you can call it a full game.

Capcom's Street Fighter V represents everything wrong with the cash-grab gaming industry today. And the people here who do not see that and vote tens and nines are obviously paid off by Capcom. It would not be a first by a game studio , it certainly will not be the last.

A promise of a finished game is not worth $60. So yeah, pretty much everything is true, no challenge mode, no arcade mode, 3-4 fights per character in story mode, servers are up, but still have some problems and don’t even make me start with how Capcom wants you to deal with the rage quitters.

So that’s about it when talking about what the game doesn’t contain until future DLC. But what is in the game is just as unfinished as everything else. Even when playing this game with some friends in local versus mode, the game starts lagging after a couple of hours if you don’t select training stage. I mean, they had the same problem in SF4, I thought they would at least fix it (I’m still surprised they managed to screw it again and make the same mistake in two completely different game engines).

Getting the unlockable colors for each character in survivor mode is just a dumb way to try to extend the lack of another single player mode. This could only get worse if they decide to charge for the colors as the only alternative.

The online mode is inconsistent at best, getting a match with 4-5 bars can take from a couple of minutes to about half an hour. Even when restricting the connection bars to the best, some matches still fill like playing in PowerPoint, you don’t even see the attacks incoming, and they just appear in front of you. I got an error that when someone rage quitted on me, the game stopped tracking my points and I had to close it and open it again so that it would function how it is supposed to be.

In my personal opinion, we don’t deserve this. This is just Capcom laughing at us for buying an incomplete product. The game was rushed, but it is not our fault, however, if we continue buying things like these, we’ll send the wrong message to developers.

I know many people was looking for this game, don’t let the developer fool you, like it fooled me. Wait until it is finished, or if you really want it, wait for a price drop or buy it used. If they wanted us to beta test it as an early access, they should at least charge way less for this promise of a future game instead of the $60 that real games deserve.

I’m giving this game a 0 as a placeholder, just like Capcom gave us a promise of a game.

Reasons I am disappointed in the game in my opinion and yes i did buy the game before writing this just to be clear

    1. Lack of an interesting story mode/single player - while yes many fighting games don't have story modes (unlike soul caliber and tekken and previous SF games *cough cough*) it falls hard compared to how it was done in SF4 and SF4 ultra where we get a cinematic and a small cut-scene against a rival, the most you're gonna get in SF5 is a picture you can easily google up with a voice actor saying 1 or 2 lines. While yes the SF series is mostly competitive gameplay not everyone is gonna play it for the online MP or training for a tournament

    2. Grinding - has apparently become the hottest new way to unlocking things in games because apparently so far as i've played the only way to be able to customize you're character is to beat survival mode a hellish amount of times and no i don't mean in total of you're entire time playing but you've literally have to sit there and fight through 50 matches against a cpu to get 3 colors.(why couldn't it be rewarded for beating a challenge mode which is locked until a march update for some reason) A nice way of implementing unlocking things in a single player mode i think is neat, is you start on a journey in you're hometown of you're chosen character japan/ryu for example and you traveled the world fighting characters you enounter while mastering the art of the fist or whatever your character is trying to do and when you beat them you get in-game credit that you spend for colors and costumes and while yes it is grinding its much more interesting then having to fight through 50 hard lvl cpu straight for 3 colors

3.features that aren't ready apparently- why is it that the game releases but you have to wait for the rest of the game to be released in an update in another 2 weeks after launch feels a lot like playing games in the 90s where we had to switch over to a second disk but we have to wait for capcom to ship us that second disk. This game feels alot like it was rushed and that before they could finish it capcom was like screw it the players don't care if its unfinished or not.

    4. Small roster - i understand that we shouldn't expect it to be 1000 playable characters but when i look on the screen 16 seems pretty small compared to the 19 in SF4 and then 35 SSF4 and while i already know that they'll be in DLC and i applaud that you can also get those characters with in game money or by buying them it still seems pretty small (i suppose that's because im use to other games like SSB wii u haha)

To most people that'll look at this post and say "ah what a baby stop whining" i write this because it seems like game developers are getting lazier and lazier at making games, yes it must be hard but this is why you do this is because its your passion right? if not find another job. I look at previous fighting games that came around the PS1 and PS2 era and man those were good times like the Capcom VS SNK 1 and 2 were phenomenal, a with a whopping 48 characters in their roster, their many challenge modes, great music, etc. Marvel vs Capcom with its innovated and unforgettable switch and combined attack mechanic. Its just sad to see that even in the game industry we're getting lazy, where's the passion, the drive if i were to give this game a rating i would give it 4/10 and maybe a 6 when the rest of the characters come out, jeez maybe i should get my old ps2 out from the box and get back into that haha well i'm done ranting thanks for listening to rambling and enjoy a game i think is subpar

This pains me a lot to say, but DO NOT buy this game until it is at least $20 cheaper than it is costing now. I've read a ton of negative reviews towards the game and decided to ignore it just to feel deeply frustrated and sad with this game. It lacks almost everything.

Firstly I will name the good things: 1) The gameplay is excellent, much better than SFIV and all characters have unique styles. 2) The graphics are very good, lightning and character models are top notch. 3) When it works, online play is consistent and the matches play smoothly.

    Now to the bad things:
    1) Very few single player game modes, story mode is a complete joke and you can finish it in 20 minutes, the cutscenes are boring as hell with static fugly images and terrible voice acting, the other single player mode, survival, is "ok" I would say, but still lacks. Why Capcom made this story mode? Why even bother? Street Fighter IV had an awesome story/arcade mode with beautiful anime style cutscenes, the story itself wasn't great but it was entertaining at least.

    2) Online mode does not work at all. I've sat there waiting for almost 20 minutes to play a game just to experience severe lag and after the fight was done, I had to wait another 20-30 minutes to play another one because the game does not have a "Rematch" option.

    3) The game forces you to be always online, even if you are playing survival, story or even the practice mode. And it constantly keeps sending a error message, interrupting your practice or vs. AI fight just for the sake of it. This has made me very angry a lot of times because at the beginning I thought that my own internet connection was having issues but no, it was working perfectly fine and the game was dropping from online to offline because the Capcom servers or something like that are TERRIBLE.

    4) If you are playing this on PC you might have a lot of performance issues. I have a mid to high end rig (i5 4690k, GTX970, 8gb RAM) and had a few issues like stuttering, random crashes and freezes.

That's what I remember (the good and the bad) for now but I HAD to make this "review", hell, I registered on Metacritic just to write this just to say to all of you to NOT BUY this game now, wait for a good price drop and then buy it. Capcom just made a terrible mistake releasing a half game and charging full price for it, given the very little content you can experience off the bat and online issues that cripple this game to death. The characters are nice, the gameplay is nice, the graphics are nice and the sound is nice too, but we cannot accept this, SFV was the first game I ever refunded on Steam (and I have played a lot of bad games on Steam but did not pay 60 dollars for them).

More and more games are being released like that (hello Battlefront), charging full price for a shallow and brief gaming experience and this will only get worse if Capcom gets away with this.

Please hear me, WAIT FOR A PRICE DROP and then buy it, do not buy it now unless you don't mind paying 60 bucks for a online only title because that's what this game is. There is no single player content whatsoever and I know that a lot of people did not buy SFIV just to play it online the same way people are going to buy this thinking they will have a full fledged gaming experience. And even the online mode has its huge share of problems.

People who buy the game should just be able to insert disc and enjoy it, not have to wait for more characters, fair enough if there was decent amount to start with. Also the character roster SUCKS. Period. There are no two ways about it. I have been a SF fan since 2, and played every game since, including Alpha, EX, and 4 and HDRemix. This has the second worst roster after 3, - and even 3 was updated to INCLUDE AKUMA. How can Tekken 7 have arguably one of the most popular and best characters from SF universe, and SF5 make such a major omission?! I dont even like Tekken that much, but game already seems to have more content and look better with the addition of SF Badass Akuma. This is ridiculous, the only reason 4 was as successful was Capcom had the sense to include the original 2 turbo cast plus popular additions from Alpha and 3, hence many casual and loyal fans returned to play the series once again with cast members they loved. Capcom tried to cater to the Tournament crowd, which realistically makes less than 5% of their total sales (Based on assumptions of wanting to sell 2M) and have ended up releasing a UNFINISHED BARE BONES PRODUCT.
Capcom with SF4 released a FULL game with decent amount of characters and content, where new and old players could have fan favorites, since then they have made huge steps backwards, basically releasing a glorified demo, with major issues such as:
    - No Arcade Mode
    - No proper' story mode upon release
    - No VS. Mode against CPU
    - Small Character Roster
    - Small stage selections (Only 10 - Street fighter 4 had 17)
    - Major omissions of Fan Favourites (I.e Akuma, Sagat, ect)
    - No Trial mode to teach players how to do combos for any characters
    - Removal of pre-fight animations/ bonus stages (car, barrel) and all extras
    - Can not unlock extra content (such as costume colours and taunts) through single player mode till dlc.
    - Catering to Tournament players, and no emphasis on Single player content for long time fan of the series.

People who defend SF5 are just allowing Capcom to release less and less content under the premise of a 'game' and charge full retail. Mortal Kombat and Tekken have been releasing games with lots of content and have never deserted their most popular characters in major titles or released games with such small rosters/ features. (Imagine Tekken without Heihachi). Also how can it not include arcade mode? A series staple and expected of even the most basic of fighting games. Also removal of extras such as bonus stages (car and barrel, removing pre-fight character animations, trials ect). This may be called Street fighter 5 but has even less features, content and characters than their last entry of the series. They should have stuck to SF4 formula, bring back lots of fan favourites and then gone from there! - If it aint broken dont fix it, - they risked it with SF3 and then look what happened?! - You would have thought they would have learned form that. Overall Capcom has disappointed the majority of their fanbase, and I sincerely recommend not purchasing this until later where more content available to stop you feeling like you paid full price for a demo! Overall a poor release, and a sad day in the Street fighter Franchise.

Save your money and buy Mortal Kombat X (can't believe I typed that) or wait for Tekken 7.

Haven't played a Street Fighter game since the PS2 so was at the game store the other day and saw Street Fighter V for the PS4. It was in fact being demonstrated on their tv. It was in fact being demonstrated on their tv. So I kindly asked for the controller to try it out as I used to play Street Fighter alot way back during the Sega Saturn days. Played a few matches as Chunli as she was already chosen. Seems fun but I had to mash the buttons as I didn't play the game for a long time thinking, I might just grow into this. Was quite excited as other patrons in the store watched me. Sorry guys but I s*ck at it!

Went to character selection, saw there was only 16 characters. So I ask the guy over the counter "any other unlockable character?" The guy said no. OK. Doesn't matter. So lets see who's in the 16. You get the standard Ryu, Ken, Chunli and Cammy. There's no Guile, no Blanka, no Balrog, no Sagat, no Feilong, no Akuma. Instead we get like around 4 new characters, and you get....Birdie!!! WTFFF!!! Who on earth would tell you "I buy Street FIghter because I want to play a fat@ss Birdie?" Who?? So I gave the controller back to the guy and said no thank you. Was so baffled.

So I went home, did more research. Apparently characters like Guile will be released as free dlc down the line among other characters. Story mode is like 3 to 4 fights per character and you get to watch a slideshow. And apparently a story dlc is being released in June too. Ehm... ok. Then I look at the PS store, THIS GAME HAS A SEASON PASS!!!!!!! Wut?? So the game in its current state has sooo little content, and yet Capcom released it and they gonna charge dlc in the future??? So what? Some characters free some aren't? New modes? ARE YOU SERIOUS???

Guys, like what other people saying, the game isn't complete. Don't support it at full price. Don't support Capcom for screwing us over. 2 out 10. 1 point cos I like Street Fighter. Another point for not the worst game ever. Sorry Capcom, you don't deserve higher. Wake up and STOP. THIS. BS. PRACTICE. NOW!!!!

If you're a hardcore Street Fighter player, buy it. The fighting itself is great.

If you're anybody else wait until the game is more complete because there's very little content. The current version is practically early access.

I was really excited for this game, I heard that all the reviews where complain about a lack of content but i didn't think much of it because once it has solid mechanics I would be overjoyed or so I thought. The game feels like a demo, it really wasn't ready for release. The story mode is a joke, these are characters we care about and the have a story and we need progression in that respect, look at mortal kombat 9 and X. The game is a great fighter and made even better by the story mode, letting you in on who the characters are and their motives. The characters in street fighter V feel like puppets on strings attached to the controller, there is no purpose or meaning just endless fighting. The lobby is not a lobby, there is a maximum of 2 fighters in a lobby at the moment including yourself, that's on fighter lol that's not a lobby that's just VS. 16 fighters is ok and they have a lot of variety, at the moment the game is laggy at times both due to in game engine issues and network lag, local gameplay lags at times. This is a half baked game and sadly it will make money because of the Street Fighter name, it is not worth full price as it is just a glorified Demo. Expand

This is a shell of a game, no arcade mode and the "story" mode is a complete joke (no cool cinematics, just images with voice over.) Do not buy Street Fighter 5, wait for a super or ultra edition!

This is clearly an unfinished product, with too many bugs as well as so few features not worthing its 60 bucks + 10 extra to play multiplayer, and with no arcade mode. Seems that they'v been walking with ubi soft guys that developed assassins creed unity...

It's a shame a game like this be released that way. Lousy job of Capcom. Few characters , no story mode without arcade and online that does not work . The tests in various Betas not serve for anything.

This is unacceptable, there is no game here. Online only with very minimal characters and game options. No 1 player mode or verses mode...lol ....DO NOT BUY!

this game is a insult to all the gamers.
this junk should not be called "game"
there should be some laws to punish these criminal developers
just wait until them finish all the content, and then decide whether you wanna play it, at that time the game will probably cost half the price
right now it should not be called "a game", therefore 0/10 is the most appropriate score

100% Rip off! Don't reward this disrespectful sham, Capcom should feel ashamed. Releasing unfinished game like this is lazy greedy and unethical, horrible selection of single player options, broken multi player, 16 characters, 3 to 4 easy mode fights equals story mode, arcade mode gone entirely. What's your excuse this time Capcom? Entitled gamers at fault again? I am so disappointed by100% Rip off! Don't reward this disrespectful sham, Capcom should feel ashamed. 1. There’s a great game in Street Fighter V, but only if you’re willing to learn the hard way. Capcom will need more than the few thousand competitors following the Capcom Pro Tour to make this game, and the series as a whole, sustainable for the future.

Everything that I didn’t like about SFIV is gone, leaving a deep yet easy to grasp, spectacular game. [04/2016, p.34]

Despite simplistic single-player and feeble tutorials, SFV is a completely essential fighting game. [Apr 2016, p.70]
