Got this today and I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did, it is fun for some but it will not be for everyone and that is for sure, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys playing indie games

I'm glad I got this game with PS+. However, while it was fun for the first half it got frustrating after a while. And while combat and story isn't important at all during the game, in the end you suddenly get to fight an endboss. Fun as any casual/indie game. It doesn't go beyond that. The story is there just to get you by. If this was released on amiga, comodore 64 or supernintendo or in the 80s/90s it will probably get a 9 or 10 but I can't believe this indie games get 9 or anything above a 7 when its not on par with a system like the xbox 1 or ps4. It can't even compete with last generation console games. PeopleFun as any casual/indie game. It doesn't go beyond that. The story is there just to get you by. I was thinking this would be a subpar freebie from the PS+ sub but I gotta say it is a pretty good throw back to the 8-bit and 16-bit days. It really reminded me of a lot of SNES games but with much better graphics.

Pro's - It was free; Addictive trying to find the gems; Simple controls; encourages different styles of play through achievements (speed, explore, strategic, etc) and requirement to maintain resources; Decent puzzles - none super challenge but if you mess up you may run out of resource to see where you are going; Lots of ways to die; lots of bright colours make it look inviting

Cons - Exploring can be repetitive; Combat is a little boring; no clue what the actual story is

Overall, I would say this is one of those games you either get for free or pick up on a sale on the PC (steam - though I would prefer playing with controller) or PS-store. Don't spend more than a $5 bucks on it. I am sure there is replay value but I will likely delete it after a single pass through. If you like exploring games with puzzles, this game is for you. If you get bored running back to random check points or holding a single button to break blocks, save your time and money.

Very fun game but can only take it in small bursts. The graphics of course arent the stand out or the story but you do want to keep digging and finding those treasures. I finished it in two days and even tho there wasn't much to the gameplay the upgrade system keeps you wanting more. Very well made game in all areas.

SteamWorld Dig is fun to play but it is too short. It takes a few hours to go to the end.

    Graphics 7/10
    Music 7/10
    Gameplay 7/10

    My overall score is 7

A good time killer if you don't have anything else to play. You really don't need to spend any more money after you've got it and the game is a great time killer if you are waiting for one of your games to update or something. Very time consuming once you're addicted!!!

Fun dig adventure, you dig to collect items which you then later can use to upgrade your digging skills, and hp. The game is simple, but yet so massive.

Entertaining little take on the Metroidvania formula that mashes its elements with a kind of updated version of Boulder Dash. Fun but too short and easy to complete although it does have some replay value thanks to its wealth of secrets to discover.

Addictive and charming in equal measure, and never short of new ideas. [May 2014, p77]

SteamWorld Dig isn’t the most expansive and deep game, but great for blowing off some steam. The game is best played in one sitting, when you can’t let go of the urge to go deeper and discover more.

SteamWorld Dig lays in the middle between Spelunky and Terraria: but it has a pace of its own, that results in a quite interesting adventure.
