A very fun and unique space combat MOBA. The worst of the launch day ranking and balance issues have been resolved, now onward to space victory.

Pew pew pew pew pew five stars!

I’m having a blast with this game. Riding in the cockpit of some of my favorite Star Wars ships is an amazing experience, especially in VR Scratches the starfighter itch that Battlefront couldn’t quite reach. One of the best Star Wars offerings since the Dark Times.

Definitely the spiritual successor to the x-wing series. The nostalgia is as really as the fun. I've played a lot of Elite and this has almost everything I was missing from that game. Don't listen to the bigots who are review bombing this for lgbtq or racial reasons... At $40 this is a steal. I'm hoping that they keep this game updated and current for years to come.

I grew up playing Xwing Tie Fighter on a 386. I’ve been waiting for something close for years and am really enjoying this. The customization options are fun and I can only imagine the other game modes that could be introduced in the future. I do not have VR yet but would love to try that as well. I play with an xbox controller on pc.

This is complimented by the multiple player that allows you to coordinate with your allies to take down your enemies. Coordination is vital as not having a squad member by your side could end in your fighter being an explosion on the side of a Star Destroyer.

The story is in a word fun. At times it just feels like a drawn out tutorial for multiplayer and then acts more like a movie showing me what happened after Return of the Jedi. Answering my questions on what happened to certain characters I began to love after the movies, shows, and even novels. As of right now there are no plans to add additional content for the story mode or multiplayer which is unfortunate as I would love for more starfighter and customizations to be added. However, as the game is right now Pop! Culture Today gives Star Wars: Squadrons a 8/10

Star Wars squadrons is pretty good video game overall, but isn’t for everyone. If your a Star Wars fan like I am, I would highly recommend it. This + PSVR is just great. Same for the Multiplayer, it's just plain fun and add addicting ontop of that.

If you're buying this for the TV or don't have VR, STOP. Save your money (maybe put it towards a VR headset fund) and back away. If you have a VR headset, this is a must play and just skip the exposition with the button prompts, use the campaign as a sort of multiplayer tutorial and then get stuck in when the campaign tutorials stop showing up but even with that said, you'll want to return to the campaign for some odd reason and role play as one of the space pilots. Just forget the weak Disney crap and make your own story.

Reviewed on 10 campaign missions (i believe I have 3 left) and about 6 hours multiplayer in the PSVR headset with about an hour on both the campaign and MP on a 4k, HDR TV screen. All on PRO.

It wasn't until I set up the VR and Flight Stick that this game really started to shine. It's obvious Squadrons was designed for VR and ported to flat-screen. There are sections to just look around at your Xwing or Tie Fighter, which again is okay on a television, but in VR it's quite the sight. Mid flight it's pretty awesome to be looking around and see planets and stars and fellow wingmen.

Mulitiplayer starts up quick and is a lot of fun. Most matches I've played have come down to the final few points. Singleplayer is a great introduction to the different ships and systems used, and there are a lot of them.

Normally, I can only play a VR game for maybe a half hour or so, before needing a break. This has been one of the few that I've played for a couple of hours at a time with no problems. If you have the means for both a flight stick and VR, that's the best way to enjoy this game.

Squadrons is a phenomenal GAME. It’s “old school”, which means it’s better than pretty much anything EA has put out in the past 20 years. This is a GAME about dogfighting spaceships. Period. If you are good, you win. If you are bad, you lose. There are a TON of people this game is not for. It’s not for people who care more about their copilots sex lives than they do flying spaceships. This game is for people who want a serious (but lighthearted) game with deep technical detail. This is a game that you can play, sans any story, alone or with friends in any time increment you like. You can be in the game and fighting within minutes. You can tweak almost every option of the game to your liking. It’s what PC games used to be like before the consolization for the masses. It’s a worthy sequel to x-wing and Tie Fighter.

This game is the best thing EA has done in decades. It’s going to be a lot of people’s favorite game ever and many peoples “it would be better if it made these changes that would make it an entirely different game” game.

EA needs to do more of this and less of everything else. Stop trying to be all things to all people.

You have the option to customize your ships by purchasing different equipment and cosmetics - all through in-game currencies, no real money shop is currently available. There are a few glitches that need to be sorted out but nothing game-breaking; I am hopeful that they'll release patches to fix these over the next few weeks.

Is this a game that I'm going to play endlessly for months? Hard to say but, given what is currently available, it does seem inevitable that it will get stale pretty quickly unless they add new modes, ships, or weapons. Even if it does, I see myself easily getting 50+ hours of solid playtime out of it, which is a good deal for $40. I am playing with friends though, if you do not have any friends getting the game then I could see it getting boring a bit sooner.

Straight up, this game is THE star wars flight sim you've been waiting for. The story is short, but it's not the focus of the game, if anything it's mainly there to show you the ropes and give you a feel for the game. the multi-player is where it's at. nothing, and I mean nothing, beats the feeling of doing a bombing run on a capital ship, putting full power in engines while focusing shields to the front, diving in close to get under their shields and just letting the payload go. Or covering my wing-man while he's does the bombing run, shooting enemy ties as they try to get a lock on him. Growing up watching star wars movies, it's been my dream to recreate scenes like that, and now I'm finally able to.

This game is fantastic and it doesn't deserve to be review bombed. So let's address that. You can play as a white person. There are plenty of white people in the campaign, just look around. they're there. nothing about the characters race, sexuality or whatever feels forced or is rubbed in your face. if you feel like it does, odds are that says something about you rather than the game. This game is worth it, end of story.

You'll be left scratching your head about why the Empire and the Rebel Alliance are fighting each other instead of sorting out whatever minor differences they might have over a round of decaf almond lattes. It's not something I'll ever put myself through again.

The multiplayer is a different beast altogether. In VR, this is a fantastic Star Wars experience. Real Star Wars from back when Star Wars was awesome. The cockpits are rendered beautifully and the gameplay is smooth as silk. It's incredibly challenging, and a lot of fun!

This game is fantastic. It's exactly what I've been waiting for. Last game that was similar was X-wing Alliance, which released about 20 years ago. It's an improve in a lot of ways. I love the customization. I'm hopping that the game continues to grow as I would like to see new ships and game modes.

If you aren't playing this in VR you are stuck in the stone age of gaming. I can't tell you enough how much fun this is- to sit in an x-wing cockpit and to turn around and see R2D2 fixing your ship while you see a tie fighter shooting from behind you. This is the future of gaming.

-Practice mode, just sit down and enjoy beating up spaceships.

(Optional) If you have VR you'll enjoy the mentioned above x10.

    And now my personal score:

    -Story: 8
    -Characters: 5
    -Gameplay: 10
    -Graphics: 7
    -Multiplayer: 8
-Content (for it's releasing price): 8.5

(If you had VR i would add 1 point extra because it's an awesome experience)

    Conclusion:

I don't now why there are so bad reviews when for the first time in a lot of time we have EA giving us a fully fledged game/experience without ripping our wallets. I could understand Mixed reviews or maybe some negative ones, because of occasional bugs (that i haven't experienced). But this game doesn't deserve 0's, 1's, 2's or 3's (In my opinion those are just hate reviews without being impartial).
If you love space shooters and star wars buy this game, or if you aren't sure wait a little bit.

The gameplay is pretty fun which is the most important part IMO.
PC port is also very good, props to EA for getting it right this time.
It could be better story-wise since they made the empire generic bad guys again and the idea to mix in the empire and rebel campaigns into one didn't really pan out but the single-player is still engaging and fun. Almost deducted a point for that

You have a realy advantage due to being able to look around the cockpit windows and keep your target in sight without needing the radar.

There are a few imperfections and occasional bugs and glitches as there would be with any new release but It's a really fun experience.

Make sure to put the controls on max sensitivity and switch to the aviator mode for best results. It can be a bit difficult getting used to keeping your speed at the right setting while using L3 to help turn but beyond that the controls work well.

The moments where you line up a perfect kill on another player or speed and turn within inches of an asteroid to outmanvouver someone are what it's all about.

Don't bother looking for HOTAS as the Thrustmaster 4 is out of stock or really expensive and you loose rumble imersion. The Hori Flight Stick is expensive and has terrible reviews.

Also those little background stories of each character are nice to have. I like the switch in between good and bad guys. The ship selection is more than enough for me, as I just fly the X Wing anyway for the Republic if I can choose. The bad...story too short and no DLC :/ the missions end up always in the same ok, but what do you expect from a galaxy shooter? A stealth game? How the missions are build is pretty well done, reminds me of the good old Wing Commander days! (the sequences were better in Wing Commander though in between missions) the other bad, if I wanted to try multiplayer it would have been maybe a shot in my a** anyway but at least I wanted to try it...but you cannot find a single MP game :/
But all in all, good story, advanced handling, good graphic & sound, for a reduced price a very good game!! full price I would be a bit sad about the short story.

If you've ever played X-Wing Alliance back in the day, then you'll enjoy this game. It's the most immersive Star Wars starfighter game I've seen in a long time. The story is relatively short and not hugely the reason why I'm playing, so it did enough of a job on the side to keep me interested and enjoy the game.

I'd buy it on sale (or in my case get it free on PS Plus) but for me it certainly doesn't warrant the huge amount of negative reviews. I thought first person only would be quite annoying, but it makes it much more immersive and I'm sure it's a blast in VR. I assume on the basis that I have got to grips with it fairly quickly that this isn't a hardcore flight sim, you can rebalance your shields and weapon power etc but aside that using squad commands and taking down fighters is fairly simple to understand.

If you like Star Wars, I'd say it's certainly worth a try and a good bit of fun you can currently get for free.

It took some time to get the hang of, with the headset and a low cost flight stick the immersion is nothing short of astounding. It's like I'm really there in a galaxy far far away buzzing up to a Star Destroyer and letting loose taking out the guns like Poe Dameron. It is very simple, learn to fly (story missions) then hop in your cockpit and blow stuff up. Five New Republic ships, five Imperial ships, lots of options. I truly wish there were more games like this. If I had to pick a flaw it would be that there isn't MORE, more locations, more story missions, other eras in Star Wars. For its low price this game packs a LOT of play time.

When I heard that this game was being released I was pretty excited. The buzz amongst my old friends was also pretty encouraging - some of them I didn't know played games, yet they were chomping at the bit to climb inside an X-wing and take on the Empire.

For anyone who played and enjoyed the Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One X-Wing VR Mission, the chance to take and create an entire game from it was almost too good to be true.

When I finally got to fire up the game for the first time I was a little disappointed with how blurry the graphics seemed to be. And, when customising your ships, I was shocked to see that a couple of the holographic trophies you can display on your dashboard, weren't showing the graphics when you flicked through them to see how they looked.

I went to bed that first night quite disappointed. The next morning I fired the game up again and things seemed a lot more interesting. I found a tip online to improve the graphics (by going into the video settings and turning the film grain option off and lowering the brightness to 30%) that made quite a large improvement. I've since reset the visual settings to their presets and I honestly can't understand why I originally had such an issue with them. Yes, the graphics are a little blurry, but when you're flying around in space, focusing on taking down the enemy, you really don't notice this at all.

The controls were also a little tricky. Not overly impossible (I'm a huge fan of flight sims) but I really thought I needed a flight stick. I'd tried to buy one in the run up to the game's release, but everywhere had sold out with no indication of when or if they'd ever be getting new stock in. They're just coming back into stock now (at the end of October) and having finally picked one up, the difference it makes to immersive yourself into the game is amazing.

While the learning curve for piloting your vehicles is quite steep, stick with the controls (and experiment with the different set ups available) and it won't take you long to start flying like a pro. There's something really exhilarating as you weave in and out of asteroids and space debris that for a brief moment truly feel like a pilot fighting for your cause.

In VR, the New Republic ships cockpits give you more of an overall view of what is going on in the battlefield, while the majority of the Empire's craft just have a giant circular window at the front. The Empire's cockpit also has a rather cumbersome interior that sees the dashboard elements really getting in the way when you're chasing the enemy. However, as with everything in the game, it really is a case of just getting used to your surroundings.

There are four different ships to chose from on each side. And a big part of how you're stats will fare boils down to knowing which ship to use at what part of the battle as well as changing your load out for your specific style of play.

Game modes include the offline campaign, which sees you switching between the New Republic and Imperial fleets in a new story. The entire campaign, while immersive and fun, is really one giant tutorial to help you get the hang of each of the ships and how the basic mechanics work. It really is advisable that you don't go online until you've completed quite a bit of the campaign mode, and even then you'd be best advised to go to the training menu and get a feel for everything there.

Flat is okay... but VR is just incredible. The 10 year old me from 1980 has been waiting for this for 40 years. This is pretty much as good as it could be considering the old tech it's running on.

I honestly really enjoyed this game! If you ignore all of the unwarranted hate from all of the EA haters.
The campaign is really good and it made me feel attached to the characters and it did a great job in portraying the conflict between the Empire and the New Republic. The multiplayer is challenging and despite some minor bugs is also really good. If you do not want to play against real

In short I really enjoyed the game and I recommend people to buy it.

Gorgeous looking spaceflight sim set in the Star Wars universe. The wealth of controls can seem a little daunting at first but it's a good balance of flight sim and arcade-style blasting that will capture the imagination of wannabe rebels everywhere.

Moderately hardcore, a tad nostalgic, devoid of AAA luster, but engaging nonetheless – Squadrons is a nice choice for those who miss Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance. [Issue#249, p.56]

It’s the game PS VR was made for; dogfighting is fast and nuanced, but it’s the physical act of sitting inside some of the Star Wars universe’s most iconic cockpits that never fails to impress. [Issue#181, p.84]

While Squadrons has likely already come and gone for those who can’t experience it as its best, I can’t overstate just how vital it is for Star Wars fans fortunate enough to play in VR. This is arguably the first productive thing EA has done with the Star Wars franchise — I don’t know what took them so long, but I hope it’s a sign of things to come.
