The first good and sometimes great thing is that the level art is beautiful with visually vast open areas - as expected from a space adventure game from the Star Wars franchise.

The level design itself (I'm referring to how the pathways and progression is made in the levels) is not that great. Usually in these kind of semi-linear games you have a relatively obvious path to main story progression, and then secondary paths to other objectives (loot, achievement, collectibles etc.), but in this game you don't really know where you're heading and therefore unsure of if you're about to leave the local area or not. You also open shortcuts throughout the progression of the levels (like the Souls-games) but there is no transportation feature between the different parts of the levels except manually walking. This get's hugely frustrating when the game has a lot of intricate paths to different places and you often have to backtrack through the levels several times.

Secondly, the loot is very uninteresting, since it's all cosmetics and not anything related to stats or combat. You can find lore related things though, which are fairly interesting, but generally not as interesting as they could be, given that it is the Star Wars universe and that there's a lot of lore to potentially play around with.

The gameplay is okey. Combat has it's moments but it's just not as refined as games great contenders (mainly GoW/Souls-games) since it's clunky and sometimes very unpredictable. Fighting multiple enemies can be a huge headache since you have to use hit-and-run tactics mostly. There is also very few weapons in the game or different fighting styles. This isn't a huge problem though, since the game is relatively short.

Story-wise the game is interesting enough to make you want to progress the game fully. But it doesn't really reach its potential in the end unfortunately.

All in all the game's not bad, it's worth a playthrough, specially if you like the Star Wars universe. It probably won't leave a lasting impression on you though. If you don't mind waiting, wait till it hits around 50 usd or below.

Star Wars makes me want to stick a blaster to my dome. Have fun playing as kid anakin as he becomes one who looks like he has downs. A robot that’s a dog. With a compelling story of a junior Jedi and all the Jedi stuff that they never explain. The force is telling me right now 0/10

I like the souls mechanic in a star wars game , the game art looks amazing. It could be better if there is more character skills development (like i souls game) also character movement feels like abit clunky. In overall very nice experience, hope there will be a 2nd part.

A true single Star Wars game we all been waiting for albeit having some technical issues which can be dealt with, with a few patches but characters are well developed, every character is unique and story is solid. Truly beautiful. Well done respawn.

Sorry but this is just an EA game, once you all buy it a multiplayer with gambling loot boxes will follow, game seems to be an all out copy and paste with the same generic story line, my brother bought it and i watched it till he beat it.... in just several hours so it seemed pretty short. sorry i will never support EA

The combat is not without its problems though, as sometimes your hit do not register and your perfectly timed parries are not punishable against the opponent. An advice I would give here would be to swap the jump and dodge button, as you would be using the latter much more frequently in combat. The checkpoints are also exceptionally poorly placed, causing a ton of repetitive and meaningless game play if you die. Though this gets much better in the late game, perhaps from the experience gained from combat. Once you get the hang of it, the combat becomes significantly more fun after ~2 hours of play. Btw, block and parry is useless, so learn how to time your dodge and punish. Expand

We have so many new interesting game mechanics that to give us what amounts to as a Prince of Persia with Lightsabers game it's just unnecessarily insulting. EA must seriously have a game design catalog/manual. If making a Star Wars game, go to pg 55 and follow instructions. Please add far too many instances where the character will have to slide down on ice and jump just in time to grab a poorly designed rope...Check. (Please make it sure doesn't work at least a few times and on most obstacles even if timed correctly). Next, identify ledges on which character can jump onto by making it look like it's slathered in bird sh*t...Check."

Point is it's formulaic in the worst way. It's Soooo overdone and droll at times and chalk full of infuriatingly unnecessary obstacles or "puzzles". As many have already mention in their reviews, it makes the most fake and insulting facade of choice in where to explore first. "Here are some planets you can choose from but unless you choose the linear path, you won't be able to progress because you don't have the powers yet to bypass huge glowing red obstacles". how is that fun? how can anyone think it's entertaining to have to go back and try to find all the places you couldn't access the first around only to find useless things most all of which have no bearing on the game play itself. For example, lightsaber handles? It's gotta be one of the worst and again insulting attempts at giving one the impression they can customize their gear. Ponchos? Colors for your ship which you almost never look at? Switches for your lightsaber? at what point would I even be able to really see and appreciate my ability to change the color of my lightsaber switch?

There should be a rule that you can't include a workbench in a game unless they players can actually craft something, not just change cosmetics half of which aren't really noticeable the entire game while the other half are different colored ponchos.

The animation and movement really made me feel like I was playing an early PS3 game. it's clunky, counteriintuitive, and just bad. They did reproduce the awkward demeanor of the actor judging by his performance in Shameless. It just really is so so so overdone and not fun. So sick and tired of trying to jump onto a platform, falling, running back and trying again, falling running back and trying again. Why would EA think that's enjoyable? I can only assume the game is getting those higher reviews because of the franchise.

We are soooooo long overdue for a True, Actual and Immersive open world action/rpg Star Wars game. More genuine abilities, not having to use the force to make a quick dodge to the left or right so that i can boot the enemy doing practically damage. A force ability shouldn't have to be wasted on
increases to your force meter or health. Leveling up should handle that and points should be save for real skills that really change up play style.

I agree with others that it tries to incorporate elements from the Souls series except it doesn't pull it off half as well. I also agree with others about the ridiculous loading time when you die, especially having just played Death Stranding, a game with much more data, incredible graphics, amazing movement mechanics and yet takes about 6 seconds to load the screen for just about anything.

The game is overdone, annoying if not infuriating at times and just plain sucks. This seems like it's little more than EA needing a revenue influx for it 's board members and figures they can turn a quick buck by slapping a Star Wars theme on a washed out version of Uncharted, Prince of Persia, Metroid like game with tiny hints of a Souls game.

In fact, I own literally hundreds of games on my PS4 and am obviously pretty opinionated and yet it I just now made my metacritic account only to review this game. It's just so frustrating to be reminded that though we've come so far in gaming, that stupid rehashed games like this are still being cranked out. Enough already, we don't need to waste Waaaay too much time jumping onto ledges covered in bird droppings, climbing left or right along a wall, traversing a pipe that bears no risk and is just a different looking pathway or again, having to jump to grab a rope after an icy slip and slide or wait, even more challenging, jumping from one rope to another. These things a good game does not make. Only quick cash for EA Games. Wait till it's released for free on PS Plus, and even that might be paying too much. I gave it a one only because of nostalgia in being able to see the name star wars. that's it.

While some of the acrobatics look a little wonky the combat is tactical, deliberately paced and fun, the story is engrossing and complements the movies well IMO, there is a decent progression system and variety of enemies to keep you on your toes. Game length is 20 + another 10 for those that like to explore the worlds and backtrack to unlock secrets with new force power.

So I was not really awaiting the Fallen Order in first place, since the last Star Wars games not really matched any criteria I would have to a title out of this universe.

I started playing the game on release with the Origin Access Premier pass and ended up very frustrated after the first 3 hours.

This game lacks so much, that is not seen by the testers, or the audiences as well, that I needed to write my own review to this.

The game starts very promising with your character being on a space station doing engineering.
So far so okay. I mean many Jedi seem to be engineers in that universe if they are not recuing the universe ... so no hard feelings here.
The level looks very good. Many particle effects, believable as well.
The when you first control "Cal" the first thing I noticed is, that this game has literally no weight on the figure. He floats compared to all recent games I played. So there is no real physics on him.

After the very promising first level you get to a planet named "Bogano" that is pretty much unknown and if you arrive there you know why. This level compared with the previous one is stuck in Alpha stadium of the game design. I have never seen such a big quality gap between two levels as in this phase of the game. And to tell it ... the quality never gets close again to the first level, at least as far as I have seen the next 3 planets.

That almost made me quit. But then I read the reviews and all were cheering to this title so I thought .... well there mus be something past this level.
    It wasnt.

The gameplay is Soulslike, which is technically a nice idea, but completely not fitting to Star Wars.
You are literally the worstr Jedi ever seen, as even some rats are a threat to you in this game.
Combined with the Soulslike respawn of all enemies after resting, this is just rediculous. The game also NEVER explains why its like that and thats why it is even worse.
The fighting itself is the best part of the game, and what kept me playing at least a while, but also the upgrade system, which limits you in first instances, as you can get more upgrate points that the story ... or level progress will let you spend is also pretty boring.

On top they added Metroidvania style levels, that force you to come back to planets just to see all of them ... also not very Star Wars in my oppinion. Which bothers people to play that ugly planets again and again.

The story is promising with typical Star Wars twists .. no spoilers here, but I did not want to know how it ends to be honest.

So people that tell something like "it respects the Star Wars lore" etc. read the above part of this review and tell me how that even closely is bound to Star Wars. Its a Star Wars themed mediocre Dark Souls / Tomb Raider /Metroidvania Clone which is not excellent in any of their disciplines.

Sorry guys, but if you rate this higher than a 7, then you did never play any actual title or good Star Wars game.

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.

Respawn has shown us, and EA, that single player games are well enough alive and kicking and has set a bright future for the Star Wars franchise of videogames if they keep this up.
