South Park The Stick of Truth

You keep track of your new friends via Facebook…
When you meet up with the neighborhood kids you find they’re in the middle of an elf vs human war, you start out on the human side and get to choose 1 of the varying classes, its then up to you to sabotage the elves and recruit new members for the kingdom
Stick of Truth was a relaxing time but the gameplay for me was just a bit too repetitive..
It didn’t take long for me to get bored with the combat...
This is a turn based rpg where you take turns attacking enemies with potential elemental damage, and effects like bleeding, or gross out…
with a bag on consumables for healing
    Nothing special…
You have mana which is used for fart magic you unlock as your progress through the game, and power points for special moves…
You also have 1 buddy with you when you battle…
Buddies are unlocked with story progression and can be swapped in and out like Pokémon at any time...
There’s a buddy for every ones playstyle or to balance your class out…
So a lot of thought definitely went into balancing this game…
You can also collect new weapons and armor in backpacks, or buy them at shops…
This game pokes fun at the rpg genre throughout, which is the only thing I really found charming here…
I personally found no humor during the combat nor really in the game even though they clearly tried really hard…
Humor is subjective.. I find games like fat princess adventures to be hilarious while others may look at me strange for saying this… but bathroom humor just doesn’t quite tickle my funny bone, though the game did manage to get few laughs out of me... but not necisarily with the ridiculous things going on like giving an abortion to stans dad, or farting all over the place to progress through the levels.. But when the game would sarcastically make fun of itself... these were the best moments for me as someone not really a fan of the TV show…
I feel like you need to be a fan to truly enjoy this and get the belly laughs I’ve heard so much about before playing...
There’s so much fan service here…
The entire town is mapped out and can be freely explored with tons of collectibles…
You can do side quests... search the characters drawers for junk, to sell for some pocket change, collect frustratingly missable collectibles like chimpokomon
It will keep fans of the show entertained for hours…
The biggest mistake I feel this game makes though is the whole having to fart or use these different abilities to progress…
It feels a little awkward switching through fart types, or shooting an object then switching to give commands…
    I could’ve done without this needless slowdown…
Shooting arrows is fine for the collectible aspect or knocking things down in the environment, setting up traps to kill enemies before you get into a battle with them… but I feel like the shrinking, the anal probe thing, and buddy commands got in the way.
While I didn’t get the laughs I expected, I can still appreciate this game for what it is though as a whole…
A well balanced, but repetitive, rpg with a decent story to keep you moving forward..
I give Southpark The Stick of Truth
    an 8/10

Story: You are the New Kid who has moved with his parents to South Park to escape his forgotten past. Quickly you become to befriend many of the kids of South Park and play in their game which is a war between humans and elves...

    Pros:
    • The story in Stick of Truth is just like an episode of South Park where it starts off simple enough, but things get out of hand very quickly and it's glorious.
    • The game is like an interactive season of the show.

Gameplay: Stick of Truth plays like an RPG game with a turn-based combat system, a class system of four classes, a semi-open world of South Park and a bunch of side quests, collectables and abilities to discover.

    Pros:
    • I love how you can make a character like you within South Park, with many customization options available.
    • Combats plays a lot like an JRPG and surprisingly has a fair bit of depth to bit to make it engaging.
    • Plenty of references to all the 17 seasons that were out during the time this game was made, so fan service from Obsidian is top notch.
    • The four classes that you can choose from are all really fun to play as with their own unique abilities that are honestly fun to watch be activated, especially the "Jew" classes skills. They also add replay value to the game.
    • Obsidian has done a tremendous job recreating the small town of South Park rather faithfully as well, some slight changes made in some locations, but it's really done to a high standard.
    • The game took me around 13 hours to beat, and that was by doing everything the game offered. Yes it is quite short for an RPG, but for the story it tells and the quests the game offers, I think it's just the right length to satisfy.

    Cons:
    • Obviously you will need to at least like the show to really appreciate the game as a whole, not a problem for me, but some non-fans it might not be fully worthwhile to them.
    • Biggest complaint about this game is it has many missable collectables that you can easily miss if your not careful and if your trying to 100% the game, this is a huge flaw that shouldn't be a thing in todays video games, or games made in 2014. Look it's not an issue for people who don't care about the collectables, but they do offer you bonuses so it's all the more annoying to me.
    • (Console Versions) The EU did censor a few mini-games in the European version of this game, but not on the PC version for some reason. Not Obsidians fault, but the EU's for censorship on the console versions. F**k you EU. It makes the inferior version because of this. The replacement flashcards are funny though.

    Sound/Music:
    Pros:
    • All the shows voice actors and characters are present in this game which is always great to see in a South Park game. Even Trey Parker and Matt Stone did the writer in this game, which makes it all the more worthwhile.
    • Surprisingly, this game has some really good music to go with the game. Not so much to listen to outside of playing the game, but works well while playing it.

    Performance and graphics:

    Pros:
    • Stick of Truth looks exactly like South Park, from character movements, scenery, the whole game captures the feel of the show to perfection.
    • The game ran solid the whole time and no crashes. Maybe an odd graphic glitch that would be there for a few seconds, but nothing to mark it down whatsoever.

Verdict: Obsidian have done a masterful job on capturing the charm, the feel, the world and the characters that South Park has achieved on TV. It's easily one of the best license games ever made and this is the South Park game fans of the show deserve and the one all should play at least once.

And because it's set in the South Park world, you can expect all the funny and crazy stuff you 'd expect from the TV show.

The only thing that I disliked is the too many (seriously, there are TOO MANY) farts and some gross moments everybody affiliated with the TV show knows about. Also the UI is a bit messy, as well as the various menu screens. Some people claim they have had bugs, but I encountered none of them on PS4.

Having also played the sequel, I have to say that The Fractured but Whole improved upon the 1st game's formula and is a much better designed game overall. Still, The Stick of Truth is great on its own.

This...was...amazing! It was literally like watching an episode of South park except you were playing it! The tongue in cheek humour and sly racist remarks and anti semitism although rude and may offend some was still funny to me as i am a very humorous person and find it very hard to be offended.

Few premises: I'm from Europe and in my country the show is practically absent due to its vulgarity and dirty humor, so if I have to watch it it's usually re-runs of the old seasons - meanwhile movies with LOCAL vulgarity is fine for children, because consistency!

Secondly, being from Europe this game is censored for us and I will have to mention it for good reason and one of the major issues for my lower score.

South Park: The stick of truth is a turn-based RPG with a heavy emphasis on interactions, which is heavily shown in the combat: each ability requires a certain input to be done properly in a very similar way to Paper Mario or any recent Mario RPG games. As a result, the combat is very fun and often varied thanks to the four classes you can choose (I played with Thief and Jew) and lots of different equipment you can get that grants different stats. On top of that you can get perks and upgrade skills to do more damage and the companions are well varied to give you enough incentives to try all. Only thing I can say that sucks is that the level cap is 15 and it won't take long to reach it.

The story...well let's start from the surface: the story is about two kingdoms, elves and humans, fighting against each other for the possession of the Stick of Truth which is told to grant control over the galaxy and you can do anything: you'll go high and low in order to find it with a relatively good twist at the end. An there's Morgan Freeman too.

But below that, it's just a story of how a bunch of kids is LARPing as knights and warriors for the control of a branch and that there's a real conspiracy where zombies are going to be involved and that could potentially destroy the entirety of south park. And there's Morgan Freeman too.

The story is definitely not what you likeabout this game: it's the "HOW" the story is told, which is very amusing and smart in its ways. The kids are LARPing so when they fight or use abilities, it's actually in their head...but then you can defeat bums and soldiers with a gun with holy lightning? The blend of reality and fiction is what makes the aspect of combat hilarious: you can't really know if they're really LARPing or it's all serious stuff.

But besides the story, it's still South Park and it doesn't shy away from picking up and mocking the standards of RPGs and such, which alone could make this game an episode on its own. The smartness of the show it's well shown and it's really fun to see everyone's reaction to everything. It's a comedy Gold.

But then comes the problems and I want to start with one in particular: the censorship. Bits and parts of the games are censored for us because we can't live in a place with offensive imagery and we can't think of ourselves so the people there thought it would be great to remove imagery that could be harmful to our delicate European senses...yeah I'm being sarcastic here of course, but as I said some parts are censored and one of those is a vital part of the game later too! On top of that, these censored part cannot be skipped and it's a pain to just stand there and wait until the blue screen goes away! I get it, the game is censored, Europe sucks balls and we can't take a joke (I can of course, which is why I watched it online later) but let me at least skip it and don't waste precious time!
And considering that one part of the game has a tutorial that is hidden behind censorship, you're going to struggle later when there's a scene that is NOT censored and requires the procedure that the game skipped!

Another big issue is the game's length: I finished the first time in about 13 hours and then a second time in about 10...I got it for free after buying the sequel but I don't know if I would've bought it at launch for full price if this was the entire game. Sure you can replay the game with another class and there are sections that allow you to choose a side, but the entire game has one ending and there's no real room for variation: only a few bits and pieces are actually different while the rest will always end the same way.

The combat, while fun, it's rather simple and very easy to learn but even there there's not much variety either: sure weapons and armors give different buffs and stats but you'll either stick with what works for your class or what works with your perks. I usually stuck with dot attacks and armor breaking moves, especially the dots that do a ton of damage in this game.

Bottom line, I highly recommend it but only on discount: as a full price game (it's 30 bucks on steam) it's a bit too high and even if it's a fun game, the best you will get out of it is two playthroughs for trying the other faction and maybe another class. I doubt you'll try a third or fourth time to try the remaining classes.

But if you're a south park fan, it's another incentive to try it!

Sound, not bad no music that stands out that isn't already in the show.

Gamplay, It's like playing any other RPG. has experience, turn based battles, gear that effect stats. it does have QTE throughout the game even during battle. hit the button at the right time to do more damage or take less damage. It does have classes Fighter, Mage, Thief, and Jew.

Story, you're the new kid, characters generic term for you is Douchebag or New Kid. You join Cartman's kingdom and fight against the elven kingdom which is ruled by Kyle. Its a simple story really. Both kingdoms fight each other until they find a bigger problem and agree to join forces to take down the new enemy. That's pretty much it story wise. Small side quests here and there to fill in the void but what makes it good it the talking, since its just as south park would be.

Overall, If you like the south park show you'll like this game. If you're not a fan of the show then you can skip since you'll most likely be bored out of your mind with this game.

Being a fan of the South Park style of comedy is a must to enjoy this one. And while it reuses much from the TV series, the main plot is different enough to be its own thing.

You play as a silent player-created protagonist who's just moved to South Park. You join the humans, led by Cartman, to fight the elves, led by Kyle. This is done in the style of a kid's made-up game, which works well. Over the next three days, the battles escalate and weirder stuff happens to the town until you reach the climax. And each night (two nights), when it's bed time, some extra-weird stuff happens that really helps diversify the plot.

All the while, you're bombarded with South Park's signature crude, offensive, and shocking comedy. Most of it is great, if you're a South Park fan, but it does frequently feel like it's rehashed from the TV series.

And when you're not progressing the main plot, there's a fair number of side quests. They're essentially fetch quests for known South Park residents, but the writing and comedy for each one makes them all worth doing.

The turn-based combat is well-done. It takes the typical Dragon Quest combat system and adds a few tweaks to make it its own thing. For example, during a character's turn, you can choose to use a special ability or item before you attack. Combat is full of comedy too, being able to throw poop, fart on people, set people on fire, or summon a variety of South Park residents to help you (such as Jesus, Mr. Slave, and Mr. Hanky). And if you like Dragon Quest references, there's a pretty big one later in the game that I enjoyed quite a bit.

My only complaint about the combat is that many special moves require unique button press combinations to execute properly. I always spent my first four or so attacks just learning how to do the move properly since the on-screen instruction is frequently inadequate. Late in the game, I typically preferred to use a skill that I already knew know to do rather than gamble with using a new move that I hadn't practiced yet.

Weapons and armor are good. There's lots, each with unique abilities. And each piece of equipment changes the look of your character. Because of this, you'll look like a fool most of the time (if you choose to equip the best gear), but that's not bad, given the world you're in.

The last part of the game (the last half of the third day) seems a little rushed compared to the prior days. The game unfortunately ends less than 15 hours after it starts. But there wasn't much more that the game could explore without seeming more repetitive. So overall, the ending was satisfactory.

So this a good game, but best for South Park and RPG fans who don't mind a short game.

What a spectacular game. Visually identical to the show, with an excellent and addictive turn-based battle scheme, a resource clearly and openly extracted from JRPGs. History worthy of the base material. Fun, funny, irreverent, controversial and pornographic. A game that respects and represents South Park very well.
