    I like going fast. If you like sonic colors this game is a no brainier its got the same level design and mechanics as colors so i don't get why people would complain but then say colors was a good game its confusing

    sonic forces is definitely one of the best sonic games in ages as well as sonic mania it has its own character customization which makes it more immersive definitely a must buy for any sonic fan and a great game to add to your collection.

    Ignore a lot of the negative reviews of this game, at least for the PS4 version. The game is actually quite decent. I expected to go in with it being a rehash of Sonic '06 but I was quite surprised with this game. The levels are "almost" well designed for 3D sonic, Sonic is "SOMETIMES" funny, and there's actually a lot to do. Sure there are times it doesn't control well and the story isIgnore a lot of the negative reviews of this game, at least for the PS4 version. The game is actually quite decent.     I would give this a 7 as several of the levels control worse than a Datsun on a frozen pond, but the avatar creator alone gives it three extra bonus points in my book.

    Fun Gameplay! Just like Sonic Generations but the Classic-Sonic Levels are boring sometimes.
    Avatar is surprisingly good and Modern Sonic Levels are fun.

    Sonic Forces is a game that you can have a blast with. Classic sonic's gameplay while not mania is reminiscent of the classics and overall is fun with hiccups of level design here and there. Modern sonic's gameplay is fast paced and overall gives an exhilarating and cinematic feeling to the player. The shortness of these levels is another issue, while enjoyable is a little short lived in most cases.     The game is really fun. I like the option to create my own character and I'm glad it play lie Sonic, but with a weapon. It reminds me of the old days where we could play as Knuckles or Tails and they'd play like Sonic, but with their own unique ability. The controls are really good too, I like that sonic isn't as slippery this time. I can actually move him with the analog stick and notThe game is really fun. The story kept me engaged the whole time and I really felt like I was on an adventure with Sonic. 10/10… Expand

    I played Sonic Forces for about an hour and a half to two hours, and I can definitely see why people aren't saying this game is amazing. The biggest issue with the game that I can see is the level design. It just feels like the level layouts are lazily slapped together, with no variety in the design whatsoever. It feels like you just go right and blow away every enemy in sight. I liked Sonic Generations because it provided an interesting challenge, and it didn't just have you going in one direction-- it encouraged you to explore each level and find your way around.

    While the level design may be bad in this game, other aspects of the game are actually quite good. The music is really awesome, as per usual even in the worst of 3D Sonic games. The graphics are GORGEOUS. I was playing this on my 4K TV, and I was blown away with the amount of detail in the graphics. The story is actually pretty enticing, and I can see myself actually interested in finishing the game just to see the ending. The avatar creation system, believe it or not, is actually really well done and is very versatile. Also from what I can tell, Classic Sonic's physics appear to be a little bit improved. The addition of the Drop Dash from Sonic Mania is awesome! I also loved hearing the orchestral musical cues from Sonic Mania when they first introduced him in the story.

    Overall, there's definitely a lot to like about this game, but I can't give it a 10 out of 10. Innovative and creative level designs with a good amount of variety to engage the player is essential for a game to be fun, and unfortunately that's what Sonic Forces lacks. It's just way too easy and there's no challenge. But the presentation and everything else is stellar. It just sucks that such wonderful art assets, music, and ideas were wasted on lackluster gameplay. The game is at least playable though-- there aren't any noticeable glitches from what I've played so far. In conclusion, this game's okay, but not great.    … Expand

    This game was pretty good I loved the graphics and the levels which I wish they made longer. Also, classic sonic had problems with the control physics but I still loved the game play, the custom hero was fun to make but I feel like they could of done better in there game play. Those idiots had 4 f***ing years to improve the game, but what do they do they waste it on building an engine nobody f***ing asked for; and started working on the actual game in just 1 year. To add oil to the dumpster fire they hired 3 inexperienced level designers 2 of them never working on a sonic game before and 1 who worked on just 1 sonic game, sonic lost world which was also a subpar game. is that anyway to treat your flagship franchise sega, like what f***ing happened why are you guys so god d*** incompetent ?!!     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don't even care to read the reviews giving it 9 or 10. They're mostly written by fanboys without any kind of critical sense who are trying to put a mask over the negative reception the game is having from both the media and other players. Hopefully they'll notice before late that if they keep doing that, SEGA is going to keep giving them subpar games like this one and nobody will take the franchise seriously anymore.

    You know Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors? Even when compared to those games, which are pretty much the best of Modern Sonic, and games that I and lots of people consider quite good, it's simply extremely disappointing. Forces managed to make the impossible: take Generations' formula and do something BAD with it. All levels are EXTREMELY LINEAR. There are almost NO CHALLENGES during the entire game. Even some enemies simply stand still and wait for you to attack them. You can complete the entire game in under 3 HOURS if you skip cutscenes. The game plays itself by you at most times, and you could actually see a very good example of that just by playing the demo: if you held the boost button with Modern Sonic, you would simply progress through most of the stage. And the worst of all: SEGA said this disappointment was in development for 4 YEARS. 4 YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT FOR 3 HOURS OF STORY GAMEPLAY, NO CHALLENGE AND SOME MORE CUTSCENES? Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV also had way too long development times, but managed to give us something substantial, even if they had some problems. Sonic Forces simply gives us a hollow experience with no challenges and no personality.

    "But muh character customization! Muh Avatar!"

    This is by far the most absurd thing ever put in this game. Some people accuse Mania of breaking canon and being a distortion of Sonic's personality as a franchise (when all it did was a tribute to the good old days, which is in no way a distortion of anything), but what breaks canon MORE than a character that doesn't have an actual name, doesn't have a set appearance and doesn't have a personality? That's not to say about several plotholes in Forces' story, such as:

    - How did Classic Sonic escape from Death Egg before the explosion?

    - Why did Classic Sonic simply DISAPPEAR when he went back to his dimension when, in the end of Sonic Mania, he went through a portal between the dimensions?

    - Robotnik was going to destroy the world when he himself was IN THE WORLD?

    - Where did Chaos go?

    - If Infinite got so angry at Shadow (and decided to get stronger because he was humilated), why didn't he seek revenge?

    - Since Classic Sonic and the Phantom Ruby entered the same dimensional portal at the same time, why didn't they exit it at the same location in Modern Sonic's dimension? Classic Sonic appeared at the exact moment he needed to appear in order to save Tails, while Robotnik and the Phantom Ruby simply... met each other in another time and location.

    -How come Classic Sonic is the same from Generations and is recognized as such by the other characters if previous official information about Forces and Mania put him as being a Sonic from another dimension?

    -And a lot other unexplainable contradictions and poorly explained stuff.

    As you can see, for a game which story was heavily shown as a crucial part of it during marketing, this game also disappoints in that aspect. Not only is it short, it is also riddled with plotholes and even conceptual problems, one of them being the entire nature of the Phantom Ruby which retroactively makes a lot of what happened in Mania more confusing than it should be. So yeah, Forces is a piece of **** so big that its story actually detracts from the best Sonic game in 20 years or so. Do yourself a favor and never play this ****. Let's just hope that SEGA does something akin to Colors, Generations or Mania again in the future and does it right this time. Let's also hope that the fanboys notice that SEGA is FORCing subpar games down their throat and they're so hungry they simply accept it without even complaining and give good scores to bad games out of fanboy feelings.    … Expand

    Great Graphics, (Almost Perfect) Soundtrack, Fun, Not a single bug except for maybe M-speed (Which is really fun for speed runs) and Great Gameplay with TONS of Replay value. I would rate 9.5 but i have to round it to 10.

    sonic forces might not be the best sonic game
    but its not the worst
    this game has an OK story
    but they are compensated by a amazing soundtrack and the game play is very fun and the stages are very re-play ably fun !
    i highly recommend this to any sonic fan or gamer

    Sonic Forces is defiantly not the best sonic game out there, but its defiantly up there. I've seen a lot of mixed opinions on this game but I would have to recommend that you play the game from start to end to really experience it.

    The game is not perfect, but is solid and enjoyable experience. If you aren't one of the Whitehead's balls sucker, you will enjoy it. Creating new avatars is a lot of fun, and the wispons are really great to use.

    Great gameplay, graphics, and music. Very fun to rush through levels as fast as you can. As always, more modern sonic levels would have been nice but the other gameplay styles are good too.

    the game is pretty good. it has a good music but that's nothing new. the controls are off a little bit and sometimes the levels are pretty linear and automated but most of the levels are pretty cool open and with many paths + the game looks BEAUTIFUL . also the game is pretty easy but if you want a little challenge go for the s rank on every stage

    I'd say it's a very fun new adventure, I especially liked the character customization. So many options and accessories for you own character, unlocked by getting higher ranks. I also like the Wispons a lot, they put an interesting twist on the gameplay increasing the replay value, as different wispons have different paths made for them. In short, I LOVED the custom character.

    I also enjoyed the story as it's dark and keeps you interested in the game, but at the same time doesn't take itself too seriously as it is a sonic game.

    The Modern sonic stages were also really fun with the boost gameplay, and the boss stages were a delight to play. I don't particularly enjoy the fully 2D Classic level but they weren't bad.

    Final Score: 9 out of 10, A fun new exciting adventure :)    … Expand

The first game i played was sonic the hedgehog and i loved it. almost 25 years later i picked up this game for my ps4 to find that it was a sub par game with a poor story, terrible level design, forgettable music, and terrible 2D platforming stages.Wow where do i begin. Modern Sonic plays fine. The oc plays like a slower version of modern sonic. By far the worst part of the game is classic sonic. Going from Mania to this game is like night and day. Honestly i cannot recommend this game for its current price. If it drops to about $20-$15 then i would say pick it up if your a sonic fan, but otherwise don't buy this game… Expand

    I think it´s a new game, i have been playing all the sonic games and i´m sure this game is not the best but not the worst, i think the critiw reviews are unfair, it´s not a bad game.

    Good: Graphics, playability
    Bad: duration, no multiplayer or chaos garden.

Sonic Forces cumpre o que propõe com sobras, não esqueçam que estamos falando de um título de uma Franquia gigante, lançado para novas plataformas com preço bem a baixo do praticado pelo mercado. Diversão garantida, gráficos bonitos e trilha sonora empolgante.
    Entendo a frustração de alguns citando a jogabilidade e facilidade das    Bom, minha opinião é simples, e justifica meu 10 ao título. Sonic Forces cumpre o que propõe com sobras, não esqueçam que estamos falando de um título de uma Franquia gigante, lançado para novas plataformas com preço bem a baixo do praticado pelo mercado. Diversão garantida, gráficos bonitos e trilha sonora empolgante.
    Entendo a frustração de alguns citando a jogabilidade e facilidade das fases, mas o propósito da Franquia sempre foi esse, velocidade, e Forces se destaca nesse ponto, tenho repetido várias vezes o mesmo estágio para tentar bater o ranking de recordes mundial, e em outros momentos busco completar o estágio em 100% das possibilidades é descobrir os melhores caminhos, verificando cada espaço.
    O modo clássico está ótimo, um dos melhores que já joguei... mesmo em certos momento fugindo do normal plataforma, mas o apelo nostálgico com adicionais de nova geração é claro.
    No caso do Avatar, é legal e foi o modo encontrado pra atingir novas gerações e público. Gostei de criar meu personagem e interagir, mesmo não sendo meu foco para jogar o título.
    O dois pontos negativos ficam realmente por conta da estória, que está diretamente ligado ao tamanho do jogo, mas confesso que a estória não me fez falta... já o tamanho do jogo sim, pois a vontade de jogar mais e mais o jogo está me fazendo enrolar pra não terminar o jogo, e assim que terminar vou buscar recordes e mais recordes de velocidade em cada um dos estágios.

    The story's tone is really bizarre, it's very dark and edgy at times but will then jump right back into sonic's normal humorous writing in the same scene, but it's also extremely cheesy and rides heavily on the power of friendship themes.

    The avatar creation and customization is the highlight of this game, it provides incentive to re-run stages and try to S-rank everything.
    The general gameplay is close to generations, but with less than stellar level design, most stages are very linear and short, but can be enjoyable to replay and get better times on. I noticed a few bugs so far especially with boosting during 3D segments. Avatar stages are probably the most varied due to different weapons having different ways to propel you through the level.
    Overall I enjoyed the game but I could recommend waiting for a sale on it, it's not terrible for its $40 pricepoint but unless you're very forgiving of flawed games like myself, I would wait for it to drop a little    … Expand

    simplesmente um game perfeito do sonic, e não, não estou sendo pago para falar isso, isso e a realidade deste game maravilhoso, parabens Sonic bem vindo de volta !

    Sonic Forces is one of the best games I've ever played. It's a step forward in everything. It has great graphics, nice story, Classic Sonic is back, it has car physics, and has nice gameplay and voice acting. Roger Craig Smith has never done a better acting on Sonic before. It deserves the love it gets from everyone.

    Beautiful. Its just so fast! Its so fun and runs at a smooth 60FPS. The story, while having some holes. Is a solid one to just run. I swear on my own grave. Get this game and Mania. Two of the best games... Ever.

    Great !! The Game feel like an Evolution From Sonic Colors and Generations. Great Music, Story, Gameplay and more. And i also like the section between 2D and 3D. i think people only said that Forces is bad because they are jealous how good Sonic Games is. Honestly, much more better then Mario

    Being a huge sonic fan I felt a little bit dissapointed by how short the level designs and lack of detail their was visual compared to sonic generations mainly for the classic stages.     Game is awesome!!! I enjoyed this game from start to final! Many 2D but ok that's normal in sonic games. Great story, amazing music and fantastic new mechanics for this game!

The game is horrible, the LD is completely linear, the enemies lack artificial intelligence, classic Sonic songs resemble the infamous Sonic 4, the phases are very repetitive and the story is very cliché. The ending is ridiculous, Sonic Classic did not surprise the members of the modern era and the end was a total failure, neither did Modern Sonci give a damn about the classic. The developer thinks that Sonic has to act like a bowling game, which makes racing mechanics look like cell phone racing games. The avatar reminds me a lot of Sonic Boom, the unnecessary introduction of the Wisps is massive, they should not be in this game, Sega could have better explored the elements of Sonic Mania like the classic Eggman, the Titanic Monarch the HBH the emeralds and the Litle Planet. I bet Sega thought about putting this damn Sonic but that changed his mind during the critics. The game is very short and finally can be worse than Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 4 and Sonic 2006.… Expand

    the music is great
    the gameplay is fun and the stages are only linear on the first 2 worlds and get better when you proceed in the game

The level design is ametuerish at best, with most levels being in 2D with the same boxes and bricks over and over to build a platforming section, the boosting mechanic is beyond broken, the levels are incredibly too short, you can beat the game in less than 3 hours (with S ranks and red stars), and just overall, the presentation is very poor. The menu looks like it's from a free mobile game. Remember how cinematic Sonic Unleashed was? Just way better than this. I fail to see how a game with four years of development behind it on a 4K system looks worse than an XBOX 360 game from 9 years ago...… Expand

    Sonic forces is really great game. It has good story,good custom charecter,comics, dlc with playble shadow,great graphics,dialoges and cutscenes. Fast modern sonic and engine hedgehog engine 2 one of good it's many enemies in one place good camera.

    It's bad. Short levels, mediocre story, and some puzzling design decisions. Sega should be embarrassed that a team of fans put together a better game than their employees. You can beat the game in a very short amount of time. 30 levels seems like a lot, but when each level is 1-2 minutes long... yeah. It's really a big disappointment.

    Where was the chaos emeralds and special stages, where was Super Sonic, where was a fun hub world, and what's with all the hand-holding and quick time events. Thankfully, we've still got Generations on PC, which is the best way to play 3D Sonic.    … Expand

So when I heard that Sonic Forces was going to be a game like sonic unleashed, a dark story, a new engine, a boost to win title on next-gen consoles, and a fresh coat aI've been a sonic fan since I played the Sonic Games on the GameCube, Sonic Unleashed and a lot of the games after it was some well done 3d sonic games and are some of the game are in my top 10 favorite games of all time. So when I heard that Sonic Forces was going to be a game like sonic unleashed, a dark story, a new engine, a boost to win title on next-gen consoles, and a fresh coat a paint for the series, I couldn't wait for it! Unfortunately, this game didn't live up to the previous games released along with sonic mania. Heres my review!

    Plot: No spoilers for obvious reasons, but to sum things up. Sonic is defeated and apparently "tortured" for 6 months, in that time frame, Eggman takes over 99% of the world, which causes sonic's friends along with your custom character (called Avatar or Rookie) to create a resistance (star wars much?) to stop Eggman and defeat his new creation, Infinite. They later meet back up with tails and classic sonic, coming back from Sonic Mania to complete its story or something? Though this story is interesting, its execution is horrible, and the later parts of the story suck due to the villains being dumb as rocks and a force message about teamwork or something. Not a good way to do a "dark" story, oh and sonic wasn't tortured if he is still happy and go lucky. 3/10

    Gameplay: It's split up into three sections, Modern Sonic, Avatar, and Classic Sonic. Modern Sonic is the same boost to win formula as the previous games since sonic unleashed. It's well done, and nice to see again, but I wish it were more of a different take on speedy 3d platforming. The avatar gameplay is decent, you get to make your character and uses his wisp power to get through the level somewhat like the Modern Sonic stages. They're alright, not much, but nice to play. Then we get Classic Sonic... Sigh. Boy, was Classic Sonic wasted. Its just CS from Generations again, and the stages are kinda dull, and it controls awful. They should have removed him and had more stages with the Avatar and Modern Sonic. Speaking of Modern Sonic and Avatar, they have some stages where you play as both trying to get to the end of the level, using double boost at least once during the stage, they're better, but nothing special again. It seems like Sonic Team played it safe with this game, and it backfired severely in they're faces. They should have done a new gameplay style like Sonic Lost World or Mario Oddsey, the boost to win formula should have been retired before this game because it's not 100% fun anymore like Generations or Unleashed. It was still fun, but not as fun as I would have liked. 5/10

    Audio: The soundtrack is one of the best in the Sonic series, it's more cinematic, but its also filled with more sonic like music like fist bump and infinite's themes. More songs would be nice though, but still high quality. 9/10

    Bosses: Disappointing as well, the mini-bosses are way too easy, and the FInal Boss is also a joke. Take one look at the final boss (if you completed the game) and tell me it's not like the one from Colors and Lost World! 3/10

    Summary: Sonic Forces is a huge disappointment for me. The boost to win gameplay is fun, and so is the avatar and double gameplay. The soundtrack is fantastic and is one of the best sonic soundtracks along with sonic mania. However, the story, while it has a good idea, it's not well executed and a huge disappointment, it's not even that dark! Not to mention the Classic Sonic gameplay is pointless and can be removed from the game, and nothing would change. I wish this could have been the game to bring 3d sonic to the next gen, but instead, it has me wishing for more, and for someone else to give this series some justice just like Sonic Mania did. Sega, if you're listening to this, please let someone else make a sonic game, enough of the hedgehog engine, enough of Denuvo DRM and crashes, please have it open world or whatever with no DRM, and something that's not 2d again and helps gives the franchise some new life. Also, P.S. DON'T RUSH IT!

    This game is much better than Sonic Generations! It takes a new approach via the custom character, and it is done very well. I loved replaying the stages in the game, especially the avatar stages, so that I could experiment with animal and wispon combinations to complete the level in the fastest amount of time.     I am a long time sonic fan with a deep appreciation for sonic 1-3, sonic cd, sonic and knuckles, sonic mania, sonic racing transformed (such a perfect kart racer) and sonic generations. I know a lot of Sonic fanboys are not going to be happy with my review of this game but I'm not going to give such a wasted opportunity a pass simply because it's Sonic.

    The game fails terribly in two areas that matter the most, gameplay and level design. I can forgive a terrible story, average graphics, annoying voice overs but i cannot forgive bad gameplay design and bad level design.

    This game has:
    -terrible level design with many very very short levels.
    -modern sonic gameplay makes me feel like I'm watching someone else play the game with the amount of cutscene animations that pop up during levels.
    -classic sonic has a very weird feeling when you jump. It is as though you jump in the air at a certain momentum and then drop really heavily, suddenly and awkwardly.
    -using your avatar character is not fun at all and confuses the sonic formula. I believe they have wasted good time and resources on such an unnecessary feature

    It is just sadly not a good game. It really is heartbreaking because i thought Sega had finally found their winning formula with sonic generations but it seems that they have ignored key parts of that formula that worked. I know the Sega Sonic team can make a great game because they made the amazing sonic generations and the amazing puyo puyo tetris so its very confusing that this game has turned out so badly. It's a sad day for Sonic fans.

    Simply put i wouldn't bother wasting your money buying this game. Go pick up something like sonic mania, sonic racing transformed or sonic generations and relive some of Sonic's better days.

Both games remade/remixed levels from all across the series long history, serving as history lessons and nostalgia trips. Forces continues the trend of loving on the Sonic community, but does so in a much different way. The real treat here is that one can create their own original character to fight alongside the blue blur and his pals. For the first time ever one can truly be a part of the Sonic universe.

    The character creation system is a wonderful new system and hopefully one of the series new staples. You can choose which animal you want to be, each of which has their own special abilities, and there are a wealth of cosmetic option available to you by beating stages and completing optional side-objectives. You can even pick your own weapon powers. You get to play as your custom character at regular points throughout the game as a key player in the story. The other levels are broken up by sections where you play as either modern or classic Sonic.

    Graphically, the game is stunning. It's vibrant, bright, and oh so colorful. Really a treat for the eyes. The voice acting is good, but some of the actors feel like an odd pairing with their characters as their voice work is much too serious for the appearance we see onscreen. The story itself is fine and introduces us to a new villain, but much like the infamous Sonic '06, it's incredibly awkward and even a little uncomfortable when it tries to be serious. It's hard as heck to not be thrown off when a talking, bright, red echidna to talk about another character getting tortured. Especially when a chili dog joke follows just minutes after. It's just odd to see some dark stuff happening in this kind of game.

    The 3D entries in the Sonic series have always had a rough go of things. However, things have been turning around ever since the release of Colors. That trend continues here. This is some of Sonic's finest 3D gameplay yet and the best controls I've experienced in the series thus far. There are still those bullcrap moments that have plagued the 3D Sonic games since '06, such as careening offscreen to your death for seemingly no reason and a ridiculous and cheap final boss battle, but those are much more rare than in previous games. The level design is pretty great with branching paths and those hidden red rings. Whatever style of gameplay one could want from a Sonic game, it's in forces. 2D levels, 3D levels, platforming, and my oh my is there speed. It's got just about the perfect balance of all three. There's also a healthy amount of content and quite a bit of replay value.

    Simply put, Forces is a real treat and one heck of a platformer. It shows Sonic Teams' desire to move away from the mistakes of their past. They also once again say thanks to the fanbase by allowing them to create their those original characters they dreamed up in their heads and bring them to life onscreen. After all, what super-fan hasn't wanted to ball around with Sonic? Forces continues the series uphill climb and may even win over some new supporters. It could even pull back in some of the former ones. Whatever the case, I can say that I was largely pleased with it.    … Expand

The first time you play the game you'll get tons of notices with useless cosmetics for your avatar. This is not the worst Sonic game ever but it's certainly the most disappointing.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll keep this fair. Sonic Forces is not a bad game.

    Pros:
    *The game is fast- paced.
    *Boosting is well executed
    *The graphics are lovely!
    *The concept is awesome.
    *The music is great!
    *The fan character making thing isn't bad at all

    Cons:
    *The levels are short and too easy, even on the hardest difficulty.
    *Most of the games mechanics are just copied and pasted from Generations and Colors.
    *Movement feels stiff, like you're on auto-pilot.
    *The game is too short.

    On to the story:
    I gotta say, the story is my biggest disappointment for this game. I know a lot of people don't care about the story, It's just how I feel about it. When looking at the trailers, you can tell that Sonic Team wanted to take the darker route with the story, and I respect them for at least trying. However, I fell like they chickened out on execution. For example, when Sonic was revealed to be alive, the other characters said that he was being tortured by Eggman himself. As much as I wanted to see how they were to show Sonic's torture, to my unsuprise, he was just sitting comfortably in a cell making quips at Zavok unscathed.

    Another issue I have is the return of Classic Sonic, I don't know why Sonic Team brought him back and tried to play it off, but I feel as if they did it for the classic fans, and I feel like it's a problem. Sonic Team needs to stop trying to bring the past in the modern games to please Classic fans, it's getting old.

    My last problem with the story, is how rushed it is. Eggman managed to conquer 99% of the world after "killing" Sonic. (Which proves how useless the other characters are.) We never actually get to see HOW Eggman took over the world. Wouldn't it be cool if we saw cutscenes where Eggman enforced dictatorial law over everyone, and those who disobeyed were turned into robots? Then, after the cutscene where, the team is supposed to save the world, all of a sudden Sonic is alive, (How'd they find that out? Apparently, no one cares.) Then there are missed opportunities of some character development: It was mentioned that Tails "lost it," but we never see him break or fall into depression after losing Sonic. Another lost opportunity is when Sonic is "tortured," there could've been a cutscene where Eggman tortures Sonic himself, It would show how for Eggman hates Sonic and how evil he is (considering he blew up half of the moon as a warning in Adventure 2) I really wanted Sonic Team to dig into Eggaman's more sociopathic nature. He would be cold and calculating one minute, than charismatic and funny the next. I would discuss more opportunities, but I'd be here all day.

    However, I love how mature the characters are, especially Knuckles, I like his change the most considering he was just a idiot.

    Like I said, Sonic Forces is not a bad game and it was a good effort for Sonic Team. I just feel like they were a little afraid to push the envelope a bit farther.

    All they need is a good, consistent story and to add something new into the game.

    Overall sonic forces it's a fun game and i recommend it for everyone.

The problems though are the hero character and level design. The hero character is a low budget version of modern sonic who is less fun to play as. There were a lot of questions about the game, with many uncertain as to whether or not it would be good, especially after the release of the excellent "Sonic Mania" earlier this year. And I can honestly say that, while this game definitely disappoints in a number of ways, I still find it to be pretty enjoyable.
    There are quite a few things to like about "Sonic Forces": for starters, it controls very well, which is something not a lot of 3D "Sonic" games can say. It's also pretty fun to play, and all-around, the game works: this isn't another "Sonic 06" where the game is buggy or hard to play: it's easy to get into and there's some fun to be had with it. The visuals are also gorgeous, the soundtrack is rockin', and there's plenty of fanservice here, what with all of the different characters from the series that appear here.
    However, that leads into one of my biggest problems with the game: that it feels like the story was just taken from fanfiction.net or another similar site, as characters from throughout the series are thrown in for no reason other than just to remind you that they exist (and to remind you that you're playing an "anniversary" title of sorts). On top of that, while the game is fun to play, it's "Sonic" for better and for worse: it feels like "Sonic Colors" and "Sonic Generations," of course, but it does nothing to really keep the series fresh after four years, and instead it takes a few steps backwards: the game itself is more streamlined, it's a bit too simple, the levels (and the game itself, for that matter) are ridiculously short, the bosses are a bit repetitive, and the 2D Sonic levels feel like they were just slapped in to remind you that "Sonic Generations" exists.
    With all of this in mind, it sounds like I really don't like this game, and that's actually not true: though extremely flawed, and nowhere near as good as it should've been, I actually had a pretty fun time with "Sonic Forces." The game will definitely not please everyone in the fanbase, but I can look past the flaws when the game itself is still quite fun and exciting, and all in all, I actually recommend that you all give it a shot because, even if you find yourself hating it, I think with a game like this, it's worth playing to see which side of the fence you sit on.

I'd rather play Sonic 06. Yeah it's glitchy and poorly optimized but at least it played like a game that respected your intelligence.
    This game treats you like you never even touched a video game controller before even when playing it on the hardest difficulty.
    The music is... okay I guess (even if the classic sonic tunes are borderline earrape) and the avatar creation is pretty fun even if it's so simplistic that it make Mii customization look like Skyrim's avatar creator in comparison. (I mean you can't even name the guy for christ sake) And it looks okay with a stable enough frame rate. Yeah that's about it in terms of positives I have with the game.
    The level design is so bland and generic that you can bulldoze most of the modern sonic and avatar stages by just holding forward and boosting. Very rarely will you ever push any other button on the controller. Classic sonic stages require more button inputs but it's still relatively stock and generic compared to the 2d level design in 1, 2, CD, 3&k, Generations and Mania. The bosses also blow too even going as far as to repeat boss fights. You also never even fight Chaos or Shadow in the game.
    This would be acceptable if there was at least a decent story to follow but there isn't. Nothing memorable stick out in between Sonic being freed from prison and the sun falling into the earth. (which is resolved after one 2 minute avatar stage.)
    It barely feels like a game or a story. It feels more like a tech demo to test the Hedgehog Engine 2. Why did this game have 4 years of development again?    … Expand

    As the latest generation of the Sonic series, Sonic Forces retains the high-speed game experience. To comply with the trend of the times, Sonic Forces reduces the difficulty, hoping to use this strategy will attract new players who have never tried this kind of game. Unfortunately, the length is not sufficient enough to satisfy players, and too much repetitive content makes this game boring.

    The efforts for modern concept of the legend came out of the way. Sonic Forces has obvious problems with the transition between two perspectives as well with the movement and speed. Only customization possibilities and several new weapons saves it from the average.
