It’s an interactive metaphor for grief, and all those strange, complex emotions that all seem get balled into one when you’re grieving. RiME is a beautiful game in so many ways, but this is what makes it truly special.

RiME is a memorable game. A simple and attractive one that really moves us and leaves us as speechless as its protagonist once we realize the true meaning of the whole adventure.

It might not achieve the levels of ingenuity displayed by some of its counterparts, but Rime stands on its own merits. Its captivating visuals, engrossing soundtrack, and rewarding puzzles are a wonderful combination on their own, but the game’s narrative elements and ultimate payoff go well beyond expectations to deliver something truly memorable. It’s been a long journey to get here, but Rime is most certainly an experience you don’t want to miss.

RiME is one of the most elegant free roam adventures out there, a beautiful and moving game.

Rime doesn't introduce new quality in the business of interactive storytelling but borrows good things from the best. You'll find echoes of The Last Guardian, Ico or Zelda, then you'll appreciate tons of passion, and in the end you will probably become very fond of this game and remember it for a long time.

A slow-paced game that requires attention and imagination but repays with stylish beauty and solid puzzles. [08/2017, p.75]

Rime's artistry is unquestionable. Each world is enchanting in its own way, from the naturalistic peace of the first to the abstract doom of the last. Its soundtrack is similarly beautiful, capable of evoking wonder, tension, and fear in equal measure. But when compared to its influences like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and Journey, it doesn't hold up too well. Consistent navigation problems, some frustrating puzzles, fiddly platforming, and severe frame rate dips make Rime feel like a well-dressed tribute act.

It looked gorgeous, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it felt really reminiscent of a lot of other games (a lot of people throw around comparisons to "The Last Guardian," and I certainly see it). However, after hearing a lot more about the game and reading about it (and also seeing that it was a lower price), I decided to give it a go, and let me tell you, I had an incredible time.
I'll be the first to let you know, "RiME" is not for everyone. The game doesn't tell you anything: you interpret the story in your own way, you aren't told where to go or how to get there. Some people might get frustrated by that. Me? I was so moved by the game that I couldn't care less. The game is visually breathtaking, emotional, fun, exciting, heartbreaking, and all-around excellent. The sound design is also incredible, and I can say without hesitation that the music really added to the experience as a whole.
Like I said, the game isn't for everyone: the story can be frustrating to understand, the puzzles can be frustrating to solve, and some may find it too slow. That's totally okay, you are entitled to your opinion. However, I personally loved "RiME," and I can definitely say that if your curiosity is piqued, then give this game a go. It was an unforgettable experience and a beautiful game overall.

It's a totally brilliant, proper adventure game, with everything in balance, everything nicely gauged. It's a delightful game world, utterly convincing, with a tremendous sense of atmosphere and mystery. It's a memorable, thought-provoking game and a pleasure to play; one can get quite lost in it.

The only irritation I had was that I read an interview with the designer and he explained the meaning. Whilst really interesting, there's no way the gamer would have grasped the roots of the game, so I felt a little cheated having pondered my own ideas of the game's meaning for some time!!

All in all though, just fantastic. I only wish there were more proper adventure games like this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: Beautiful environment/music/story. Non-frustrating puzzles.
Cons: Big world to get lost in

I had no business playing this game since I don't like puzzle games, but I did enjoy this anyway. The scenery was beautiful, very well rendered at all times. And even though it's a puzzle game, I didn't get too frustrated. The only 'con' I found was the environments, while beautiful, were pretty large and I would get lost/confused at times. There wasn't much to do in such a big area besides find the path.
And the story was totally (SPOILER)........heart-wrenching. I thought it was a beautiful idea, having not just the father's stages of grief, but the son's, almost like Enu felt terrible about leaving his father behind and afraid of crossing over. I liked it, but it left me sad. Ironically enough I did accept it at the end. DABDA indeed.
Also, I liked the kid (Enu), his voice was adorable.

Sadly, it runs like crap on my PS4 pro. To me, framerate is king. 60 is good, 30 is okay. Anything less (or in between, while we wait for HDMI 2.1's VRR) and I get annoyed. Playing Rime was, in its current state, very annoying to me: the constant stutters, hitches, slowdowns ruin any sense of immersion.

I stopped playing after a couple hours. I'm waiting for a patch to either get the performance closer to 60 or lock it at 30.

I can't believe they'd release something this promising in such a sorry state.
