The story is a total mess with many flaws and stupid character decisions, (the world dumbest police officer suspects Ethan of wrongdoing, Jack cuts off Lucas' arm and he shoots himself in the head, all of this for no apparent reason). My other problem is with gameplay, you fight the same kind of enemies for the whole game and Ethan moves and turns like a snail, making - amongst others - the chainsaw fight with Jack very frustrating. But there are a lot of things to enjoy. The graphics are mind blowing, the sound design is superb, the Baker House and the boathouse sections are great and they feel like old Resident Evil, and Lucas' escape room felt really satisfying to figure out. Sadly we have the boring boat and salt mine section at the end. Expand

Good horror game overall but they made imo so very odd decisions with the design. Last half of the game seems kinda phoned in aswell and pretty lackluster enemy variety but better than the few games preceeding it by far

The game has a great story but there are things that just let it completely down. Melee is practically useless other then to open boxes. It's extremely difficult to use as it misses all the time. And enemies hit you more or less every time when you get close? The player character "Ethen" is annoying as hell. Shows barely any care in serious situations and you don't get to see his face which doesn't work in a game like this. Certain parts of the game are boring and meaningless. Movement is far to slow although this was improved in re8. I didn't really enjoy spending half the game in 1 building and just constantly walking back on myself but some may feel different. The ending was quite good but I won't spoil it. Gun mechanics weren't bad. I think some weapons need small buff. The burner was terrible and dealt hardly any damage. The machine gun took like half a clip per kill.

I hate infinite spawning enemies in any game. It's misleading and those who don't know about them could end up using countless supplies for no reason and in a game with limited resources it's a terrible idea. You could ruin your save through wasting resources for no reason. The best way to play this game is just to hardly ever kill anything unless you really need to and just run away, sometimes shoot to flinch the enemy allowing you to run past, get to a save room and they all die. Save rooms are in all areas to you never have to run far. Also enemies can't breach doors so while your running just close doors behind you. The fact you can do that in this game is just stupid to say the least. Bosses in this game are terrible and boring. They give you no feeling of accomplishment. You never know if your suppose to just shoot it or they have infinite health and you have to kill them through an objective. For example 1 boss you have to keep knocking them back every so many seconds with 1 headshot. If you didn't know this you could sit there and drain tons of ammo. In this game you always have an immortal NPC chasing you. You can't kill them until you are in a certain encounter. But it's just annoying. I didn't mind it once but when it's every level it gets old. You think you killed 1 but then another NPC is walking round. This game stretches recycling content to the max. Each boss has 3 encounters. Things are changed but it's still the same NPC. Another terrible idea is exploding loot crates. It's just a cheap way to damage the player because they can't be told apart. The only way you would know is if you knew it was there. It's a shame because the story in this game is amazing. But the gameplay is just disappointing and not thought out enough.

    Pros:
    + Good atmosphere
+ Nice tie in with the rest of the franchise
+ If you're into classic RE games this would feel familiar
    + Nice combat mechanics

    Cons:
    - Generic environment and characters
    - Easy to exploit
    - Forgettable
    - Feels limited on purpose

The game nails atmosphere and dread as the player slowly advances through the sprawling Baker mansion. I was surprised at how creepy and unsettling multiple sections throughout the game had me feeling. I was constantly checking corners and looking behind to make sure I was alone and safe. The game is full of interesting puzzles and worthwhile exploration. I enjoyed nabbing new guns and discovering hidden secrets. Later sections in the game do slow down the pacing, but I did appreciate the variety in setting. The game's story is interesting and worth experiencing. The Baker family’s descent into madness is well explained and the antagonists are all compelling and interesting. Staples of Resident Evil games such as crafting and limited resources make a return here. Both do an excellent job of allowing the player freedom in ammo choice and amplifying the need for resource conservation and exploration. The worst aspect of RE7 has to be the actual gunplay. Aiming feels unresponsive and clunky. This can largely be explained by the fact that RE7 was made for VR. The VR aiming and shooting is actually extremely precise. The boss battles are hit or miss with some being extremely fun and cinematic and others being cinematic but not very engaging. My most memorable moment has to be using a car to run down a boss in a climactic battle. Overall, RE7 succeeds in everything important and left me excited for the future of the franchise. Expand

Survival seems to be much more of the focus this time (as opposed to action or horror), and that's fine with me. Gunplay is solid, exploration is interesting, and the story is alright.

Unfortunately, this game is not scary and the environments were mostly dull. The only two that interested me were the ship and the birthday shed. The enemies were well designed and creepy, however.

It hits all the check boxes of the OG titles, but it just doesn’t feel the same.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the great disappointment of RE 6 (I know that many like it but...) Capcom decided to completely redesign the series.

The truth is that at the beginning I was reluctant to try this title, but when I finally did, I didn't regret it. I don't think it's the best release of the saga but it certainly fulfills very well what is necessary to be a good videogame and a good Resident Evil.

It has good puzzles, the horror and atmosphere is really scary and it has BOWs as it should be (not those shooting enemies since RE4 ).

However, the enemies vary little and are boring, the first person perspective is not to my total liking (yes, there have been RE like that before, but spin-offs), I don't think you ever felt that vulnerability of a classic RE (pre-RE4) and in the end you feel like you're playing a Call of Duty. The "tone" of the horror is very "basic American horror movie" and that, even if it works, makes it stray quite far from the original tone and I feel it was too cliché.

If this game had been in classic perspective like RE remake, it would have been much better, but I think even in first person it works.

The plot is not bad, it just wants to be pretentious to the end to be pretty meh, the whole campaign seems something ghostly or paranormal, it feels like the biological side was only added at the end to fulfill that it's a Resident Evil and the "DLCs" of Chris and Zoe honestly are better and should have been in the normal campaign, not extras (even if one of them is free).

Even though the story is dumb, the protagonist is the worst in Resident Evil history, the enemies are lackluster and some of the dialogues are horrible i still can somewhat enjoy this game because of the sound design, mystery and exploration values. The DLCs are much better than the game itself though.

It is a good game but it has a low replayability, once you pass it you already know all the tricks for the following games. It is of very short duration, I liked that it is in the first person although there are many people who criticize it and a very good soundtrack and immersion in the story. I give it a 6 since I had very high expectations that have not been fully met

The earlier chunk of it is good but as it goes on, you soon realize how easy and lifeless the bosses are in their final stages, they don't feel like a final challenge but rather a cutscene only for us to click and press just simple buttons. The reason for it is because of its story that contradicts in certain places that makes the game starting to fall apart, thus leading to a lackluster end. Despite its short length and contradictory pieces in its game, you still have a very thrilling game to experience firsthand. If it was longer and had more details, I would've given this a positive point. Expand
