As a fan of these kinds of games, I can say that Remnant: From the Ashes is a type of soulslike that I would have probably passed over in favor of something more traditional, but after giving it a fair shot I’m glad to say that it’s the successful spin on the genre that I didn’t know I wanted.

Remnant: From the Ashes plays borrowed neighbors with many popular games, but thanks to good shooting and co-op action, it stands completely on its own.

Remnant: From the Ashes lies somewhere in between Dark Souls and your typical randomized rogue-like. It features an intense co-op PvE combat formula, mixed with a beautifully crafted world and a smart understanding of the RPG features. As a result, it will give you a nearly infinite amount of satisfactory playthroughs.

Remnant is on my list of biggest surprises of 2019. I was apprehensive since I'm not a fan of Souls-like games, but this one is right up my alley. The combat is fantastic and it's even better when you are playing with others online.

Remnant: From the Ashes is a cruel and difficult third person shooter, but also extremely satisfying.

Remnant: From the Ashes is one of the only games I feel comfortable using the term ‘Soulsbourne’ in a positive manner. It takes all the crucial lessons learned from From Software’s legacy and brings them to it’s own game world to produce a unique third-person shooting experience that is exceptionally fun. Whether you’re playing on your own or with friends, the gameplay is always thrilling and the allure of the bizarre and fascinating universe begging to be explored is hard to resist. Remnant: From the Ashes is an easy recommend to pretty much everyone.

Story and world lore could be more defined, but Remnant delivers an adrenaline-fueled intelligent adventure - kind of Dark Souls with brute shooter flair.

At a budget price and launching with a last minute ad bumrush, Remnant: From the Ashes is the kind of title you’d expect to come out and vanish quickly. But for fans of tough RPGs, action shooters, or post-apocalyptic fiction, passing up on Remnant would be a devastating mistake. It easily joins the ranks of games like Vampyr, that stubbornly outgrow their financial constraints to truly innovate and elevate a genre that has long since needed new ideas.

Remnant: From the Ashes is an entertaining and challenging game, that also give us some options to try its gameplay and challenge its enemies. However, you should not forget that it's mainly a coop game, and playing alone can be tough or even frustrating for the most part of the journey.

Overall, I think the longevity of the gameplay might be a bit grind-y for a mainstream audience. If you can accept that grind, then you have a good story waiting for you with a beautifully woven tapestry led by leveling and a competent upgrade system, which helps keep the gamer motivated to continue. Is it a perfect game? No, but it’s a damn good one, especially with friends.

Remnant is a cool co-cop TPS experience that is difficult for newcommers but really immersive, while offering great bossfights and an adaptative skill-system.

Gunfire Games have created a deep looter shooter, with meaningful rewards and tough bosses, combined with a fascinating world packed with lore and story reveals that are worth experiencing. Remnant is a replayable, bitesize adventure that I will be hopping back into again and again. However, the PS4 version at launch is marred by frame rate drops, crashes, and a few fights that feel broken and unbalanced.

Remnant: From the Ashes is a brilliant game that will undoubtedly satisfy the masochistic urges of all those Souls-Like (really can't apologise enough) fanatics out there that need their next fix of brutal punishment in the form of a video game. The game is let down by a few minor faults and won't provide the same amount of gameplay that the majority of Souls games deliver to players, but the positives of this game far outweigh its negatives and the ability to replay it and take it on with friends negate the admittedly short standard campaign time.

Despite its flawed boss design, Remnant: From the Ashes has enough to make a case for it being an action RPG in its own right with solid progression systems, good combat and its own take on the Souls formula.

Generic in places but ultimately redeemed by brilliant combat and some clever roguelike elements, this Dark Souls copycat is a (mostly) worthy contender. [Issue#167, p.87]

Whether going about your adventure solo, with friends or with two random strangers, Remnant: From the Ashes is a fairly well built experience. Taking the well known formula of a Soulborne and turning it into a third person shooter works as it provides a different experience from the norm. Assume (or just hope) that the bugs go away, but otherwise, this one is genuinely enjoyable.

Remnant: From the Ashes is an addictive loot shooter, especially in multiplayer. The bosses are a let down and exploring for the sake of exploring is dull but when you're blasting enemies with your range of weaponry and are rewarded with new gear or upgrade materials you just want to keep playing.

Remnant: From the Ashes is an ambitious title and a fairly unique one at that, it just does not always stick the landing.

Before I started Remnant, I was worried that its ranged combat wouldn’t provide the same kind of challenge or depth as other, more melee-focused, action games. But Remnant is still finding ways to surprise and challenge me, after I’ve put nearly 10 hours into the game, and each boss teaches me something new about the game and how to play it. I can’t wait to see what I’ll learn next, and what I’ll see — and kill — on the way.

Okay, that's my first review, but when I saw Slant magazine score, i just can't leave it, review is utter crap btw, don't listen. Seriously,Okay, that's my first review, but when I saw Slant magazine score, i just can't leave it, review is utter crap btw, don't listen. Seriously, this game is awesome. Combat is great, ranged weapons feels so satisfying to use, melee combat feels good too. Remnant has it's own unique style. Art and vision of Gunfire Games are incredible, if you played Darksiders, you know what i mean. It's surprisingly challenging and fast paced at the same time. Multiplayer is fun as hell. First game in long time that I enjoyed with my friends. Solo is great too. Don't miss it, it's hidden gem, especially if Souls genre warms your heart. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Great concept but very flawed execution. Matchmaking does not work very well as the game would have benefited greatly from some sort of summoning system. In the multiple hours I put in, no one joined my game despite matchmaking being open. Absolutely horrendous difficulty spikes in terms of bosses. It seems as if almost no balancing was done. Extremely frustrating, as gameplay goes from enjoyable to downright unplayable. I’m not sure if patches can fix above issues but would go a long way to making this an awesome game. For now, I’m moving on to another game. Full Review »

While the game is indeed really fun in co-op, the game is absolute single-player garbage. Imagine my shock when I realized that the game which was advertised as a looter shooter has barely any loot, except for crafting materials and consumables. One of the other user reviews suggests that there are some minor bugs, and I am willing to agree with that, if we consider constant game crashes on PS4 as a minor bug. People tend to give this game way higher ratings than it should have, mostly because most of the new games are not really good, I guess. Overall, Remnant: From The Ashes is a journey from point A to point B, while collecting crafting materials and consumables, and in some extremely rare cases - weapons and armor (in case they happen to be in your world), in order to fight a boss which will summon infinite amount of enemies. Remnant is not hard, it is tedious. The voice acting is not really bad, but it's not very good either, but oh well, that's what you get for 40$ I guess? And while all the NPCs look generic, sound generic, and they feel like we've met them already in another game, how are we, the players, supposed to feel engaged? This game feels like Atlas at times, you feel like it should've been in Darksiders, but they thought they can make some money out of it. And they did. If you're on PS4, avoid this game at all costs. Considering the fundamental flaws the game has (which should've been pointed out by the reviewers, but they weren't because it's a 40$ game, and again that doesn't make it any better) I would suggest waiting for a sale, so you and your buddies can actually enjoy the co-op (where the game shines) at a reasonable price.
